This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Fish and chips takeaway.
Visited on a Tuesday AYCE. Thumbs up experience both in quality and service. Recommended
Food fresh and tasty
With dad for sit down meal right after COVID-19 eating restrictions lifted. Very light batter, fries good, not greasy, large portions, good service. On a sunny hot day it's warm inside because of all the windows.
They serve delicious seafood chowder. Their food portions are generous.
This place is the best fish and chips. Great prices, didn't make me sick like C lovers. I would recommend to everyone
Excellent food and pricing
Being from England, I was yet to find true British fish and chips until today. Bar none, the best fish and chips I've had since being back home. True British style.
Wow! Surprised that I haven't heard about this spot before. Thanks to my girl friend and her daughter for the recommendation. The cod is my fav.
Sorry to say we were very disappointed. Fish and samosas were overcooked. Fries were undercooked. Coleslaw was lacking the usual tang you expect. And ircwas pricey. Sorry but I won't be back.
Just ordered Wednesday special Halibut and chips it was horrible more like fish strips almost no fish in either order, just over battered skinny strips of fish, no coleslaw and no tartare sauce in my takeout order, the last time I was there two weeks ago you got a nice piece of halibut with chips and coleslaw, now they increased the price 20% and gave you not even half as much fish, what a disappointment, will never order there again,
Did a good job
Very No Good
Third time we have been there. Fish is really good, so are the chips. Good friendly service and really tasty food. Definitely going back again.
Service
Fries were cold, dry and soggy. They also don’t even make their own tartar sauce!?
Love the fish
Delicious food. I recommend it.
Good fish and chips at good prices. Try the daily specials. Big portions. One piece of fish is big enough for a meal.
Awesome fish and chips. We had the valentine special. $24.99 for a dozen shrimp appetizer, 2 halibut and the best chips I have tasted in ages, coleslaw and tartar sauce, then a brownie and ice cream to follow. The restaurant was clean, good COVID rules being used. Staff were friendly and food and service was fast . The food was all good, fresh, hot and delicious. I would recommend a visit.
Came here to do some repair work and the owner kindly treated us to lunch. The food almost made me wish I paid for it! Far better quality than cockney kings or white spot. Delicious crispy fish, satisfying fries, and a decent slaw. The fish was really the star though, every bite was tender flaky and savoury with that fantastic batter. Would gladly stop by when I'm in the area.
First time at this spot and thoroughly enjoyed it. Big portions and the fish was battered to our liking. Would definitely recommend this spot to anybody visiting White Rock. If you're in for a feast, the Londoner is the way to go!
Not busy, good value specials, pleasant staff, halibut very good.
Great service huge portions the halibut chips are my favourite. Hige menu as well as an awesome ptio cant recommend enough
Those onion rings are so good.
Last night we were disappointed. Order Halibut but not sure what the fish was, not Halibut. And if that was a JUMBO order of onion rings, like 10 rings. We won't be going back, so many other places to buy from. Good by.
Went today, Tuesday, Nov 24, 2020. Food was served hot and crisp by a very friendly server, portions were large. Had 2nds, 1piece of fish for wife, 2 for me with fries again. Super hot and crisp, skipped on the coleslaw and tartar sauce, then 1 more piece of cod. Stuffed! What a bargain without sacrificing quality or service. Will be returning for some of their other specials. I'm a long time fish and chip lover, this scores right at the top. Eaten at expensive fish restaurants, it was good but never hot enough. A+.
Great fish & chips. Wonderful chowder. Well worth lining up for - as long as it's BEHIND my wife!
Exceptional service and fish and chips. Great value too given their special of the day. Perfect to enjoy in this beautiful city. I just came for take out. And the lovely service lady still sat me down at a table and served with full cutlery. Well done. Forget other places. Come here!
First time ordering from Fishin Chips. My family members ordered fish and chips and all I heard were praises for the delicious fish. I ordered the seafood chowder and Oh my -- such goodness and very filling. We will definitely be ordering from here again ☺️
Excellent food at great prices!!
Friendly staff. Great fish and chip. Not greasy. And comes hots. We will definitely come back for our fish and chip craving.
Not at all what I expected. Very bad.
The fish tacos are awesome. I also love the halibut. Great prices and friendly service.
Now a rivalry for the best fish n chips in White Rock.... very dense piece or fish and homemade chips...not as greasy as most... And reasonable prices ..I'll still be faithful to Moby because the extra piece of fish and my nastalgic past for 30 years..but this place will also see me frequently!
Had halibut and fries it was excellent would definetely recommend and will be returning. Fish batter was crispy not to thick and decent portions. Service was great and restaurant was clean.
Went there with an open mind and a hungry belly. We ordered the 2 piece cod, haddock and halibut and split the 6 pieces amongst 3 adults and 2 little kids. My wife liked the haddock and mom and I liked the halibut. All 3 choices were great and the fries and tartar sauces were excellent. Could have used some English music and slightly less sweet coleslaw but all in all a great dinner and we'll definitely be back and recommend to others.
Good food. Very friendly staff.
This has to be one of the best fish and chip joints around! Tartar sauce tastes home made and the wife loves the coleslaw. Been here a number of times and always great food. Decor could use some work but I go for the food!
Excellent food. The coleslaw was crunchy and tangy, the tartar sauce smooth and tasty. We both had The Londoner special, and the shrimp and the fish were perfectly lightly breaded, and not greasy. Fresh hand cut fries and generous portions of coleslaw and tartar sauce. Lots of condiments. And the service....spectacular. About as good as it gets. All of this, and a great view of Semiahmoo Bay from the patio to make it even better. Very reasonably priced. My new favorite restaurant! I WILL be back, and I’ll be bringing more friends here with me.
Lunch
Had to make a run to Whiterock and took a chance that they were open today for take away! I am happy to say YES! I had the Halibut special with a side of their house made tarter sauce. I missed the Cod special they ran but so wanted to try this place out. The piece of halibut was a nice size and super flaky. The batter was nice and light, not over battered and the chips, I've never met a chip I don't like, LOL. I literally ate them in the truck. Now I want to go back for the cod but I have to bring the family.
So So, Chips cold And too much batter on fish.
Great food amazing taste for a great price and the owners and staff are very friendly.
Meal type
Hot and fresh come in and enjoy!
Take out
Very good!!! Will go back soon
Formally called Leela Thai restaurant it's now Fishin'Chips. Wheel chair entrance is in back lane parking lot. Daily specials. Pop bottom less (dine in) . One peice of fish n chips filled me up.
Great staff...great food.
Great staff food was very good I had chicken strips and fries
Loved the chips
Great fish and chips. Fast service try the Cole slaw
Maybe we went on an off day considering I had heard great things about this place so far. We live just down the hill so I was pretty excited to have a new fish and chips place. We ordered the 7piece cod and chips. Fish was pretty thin and batter on the oily side and even chewy in some places. I was disappointed that with that big of an order it only came with 3 tiny packs of tartar sauce but I also forgot to ask about that before leaving so that could be on me. Chips were also a bit soggy. We live two minutes away so travel distance shouldn't have mattered. I'll have to give it another try and I'll update my review once I do!
Portions used to be good. Now about half the size & same price. For example, only one piece of cheese cake, for 2 people & the containers for soup & chowder only half full.
Don't listen to Karen, she doesn't know good food, also her name is Karen.
Had a great time. Amazing specials too; $10 halibut special is basically unheard of. Also had fantastic service from Ashlie. Make sure you ask for her by name and your time there will go from amazing to superlative! Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Will make it a regular visit whenever I’m in the area.
First time out during covid. They have great food and staff. All the tables are space for social distancing. Come get the halibut its awsome
I was taken to this restaurant for my birthday Friday…I have wanted to try their fish and chips for quite some time but never seemed to get around to it…WELL that was a mistake on my part!! The BEST fish and chips I’ve had in a very long time. I got the cod and chips and my friend got the halibut and chips, neither one of us could stop raving about the food!
Typical food. Decent portions at a reasonable price. Not the place to go to for a first date, but if it is date night and you want to get out...
Good White Rock fish and chips are hard to find. This Fishin' Chips were very good for the price point. I eat in a lot of restaurants and I'm glad I have local friends that kept saying "have you eaten here yet". Yes the atmosphere is a little diner(ish), but again I say the fish and chips were very good and at the end of the meal, that's what really counts.
Good food and reasonable pricing. Friendly staff.
Good food and fantastic value. I had the shrimp and it came with cocktail sauce which is awesome. Fish and chips were good too and not greasy.
It was delicious. Fish was beautifully cooked. Not greasy at all.i had the Fish Tacos and yam fries and could only eat half. Definitely will be going back!
Second time here. There special was Halibut and chips plus coleslaw for $9.95. Seroiusly great with good size piece of halibut with a thin crunchy battery, fresh crispy fries, big helping off great tasting coleslaw. Apparently this special is every Wednesday all day. Service is friendly! ???? ????
We got takeout and were pretty disappointed after reading the great reviews. The fries were dry and tasteless and the fish was okay, but certainly not the best in the White Rock area.
These fish and chips went so hard. You just need to come in and try whatever you feel like eating in terms of fish and chips. Had the halibut and it was super filling, natural chips and the best coleslaw I’ve eaten to date. Will definitely be back.
Great food, hardworking staff. Great deals on weekly and monthly specials. Always done takeout but will try eat in when covid19 restrictions permit.
Had the halibut and chips, it was great! Fish tasted very fresh and not too greasy. Will definitely be back
Big plate
Daalicious Halibut and fries with a side of coleslaw.
What a great little place, service was good, and the food was even better. Recommend this to any one who likes fish n chips.
Was not happy with the service or food.
Staff are very pleasant and efficient and we have supported them since they opened. However, lately the fish itself has been small and dry, with way too much batter. Although they are only a block from home, I will, in future, make the extra effort to drive down to the beach and pick up from there.
good food and good deals
Good food
Friendly staff. Nice portions of fish and chips from my order. Was ready in the estimate time that was given by the Lady working the front counter.
Better than C Lovers who are up the street. Larger piece of cod ( which was not greasy) and more fries to go with it. For fish and chips, will have to travel further, my place to come back again and again.
Great food, did pick up waitress was friendly and quick to great everyone. Good experience. There tartar sauce is home made delicious ????
Not bad Not great but not bad !
Very disappointed. Decided to give them a try tonight because of the reviews. Got the cod and chips special. Also ordered the Panko shrimp and oysters. The fish was o.k., but the shrimp and oysters both seemed like they came from the frozen foods section at Costco. At least with the oysters, they should use the same batter as the fish! But I guess they can't because it seems they don't use fresh oysters. All though it costs more, I'll go back to C-Lovers.
Love the food!
Beautiful fish, batter not greasy. Chips are tasty - my wife says it was the tastiest fish & chips and me being British knows a good fish supper when I have one!! We will be back with the boys every other Sunday for lunch!!
Hello owner and staff of Fishin' Chips. Your fish and chips are some of the best that I have ever tasted. Not greasy and really full of flavour. Everyone should visit you. The places down near the water put too much batter on their fish that all you feel like when you're eating is batter. Bravo to your kitchen and wait staff for a lunch well done. Also, however is producing the baked goods, marvelous!!! That person should open a bakery or an online bakery. The peanut butter cookies are absolutely bar none compared to any bakery that I have been to and also the date square; worth every single penny. Please let the baker know. Fantastic baked goods... Regards, Leslie Queen
(Translated) Place to eat breaded cod with French fries. Personally, my stomach didn't like me because it's a lot of oil to fry it. But it was tasty. Nice cod and frieds. But to oily for my stomach. I felt very bad (Original) Lugar para comer bacalao empanizao con papas a la francesa. En lo personal, me cayo mal a mi estómago porque es mucho aceite para freírlo. Pero estaba sabroso. Nice cod and frieds. But to oily for my stomach. I felt very bad
Awesome will go back soon
Went to white rock to visit a friend and decided to try this place out. It was amazing! I got the cod and chips. The portions were huge and the batter was nice and crispy. I will definitely be going back here.
Lots of breaded prawns for cheap. Just remember the seafood sauce. If you get fish ask for well done as the batter was a bit wet inside .That's typical for every fish an chips restaurant though 4.5
The halibut was a bit on the thin side so It was was slightly overcooked. I went because of Julie B's review and my piece definitely did not look like that. Chips were so-so. They look to have been made from fresh potatoes, but they were a bit dry. The batter was decent. The biggest downfall was a bit of skin or or something chewy on one end of the fish.
Best service from Ronnie, best fish and chips. I had my meal served so fast and it was delicious. Will definitely come back. Don’t forget the samosas. Asante.
Tried their fish & chips for takeout! First time visit! Roomy place!
Best fish tacos I have ever had!!
Best fishin’ chips around!
Sooooo good.
Missing cod pieces. "Large" chips come in tiny portions served cold. Missing Coleslaw. Scallops were mostly batter casing with no meat inside. Poor experience all around. Will not be returning.
Interesting that the owner only responds to positive reviews
Delicious food, excellent service. If you haven't eaten here, you need to rethink your life decisions.
Great fish and chips without the hassle of parking on Marine Drive. The cod was fresh, batter was crispy and not greasy and the fries are made from freshly-cut potatoes. Delicious. We will be back for sure.
We had the special small family pack takeout. Lightly-battered cod, Pablo shrimp with Thai sauce, tasty coleslaw, delicious tartar sauce and good chips, all nicely packaged for takeout. I was impressed with the layout for dining in, and look forward to returning to try some of the interesting items on their extensive menu. Give this new White Rock business a try - you won’t be disappointed!!
Got the halibut and chips today after reading all the great reviews. I was impressed. Definitely check out this place. As they say, one bite and im hooked
Great fish and chips, as good as any of the beach shops.
My son wanted to treat me to fish n chips today, and found this place around the corner from his place. We had a pleasant waitress, and got a nice table outside. We ordered the Halibut fish n chips, with fries and coleslaw...fish was great, but we started pulling a hair-like material out of our mouths and the fries. There were multiple hairs, which ruined our appetite. When we told the waitress, she just said it was the burlap from the potato bag. She said she'd tell the chef, and that was it. I assumed we would get a discount for such an unpleasant experience, but my son was charged normal price. I think you've lost a customer, which is too bad, as he will not dine here again...little thought for customer satisfaction, sadly...maybe more care should be taken in cleaning the potatoes, or getting plastic bags, not burlap?...disappointing customer service
Delicious! Fish was cooked perfectly and everything tasted great. Loved the samosas! Service was wonderful and the new owner is super sweet. Patio was really nice to sit out on in the sun
Food just like the photo. First time not sure as the place was a little run down. But the fish was good fries ok, and home made tarter sauce decent.
Everything was amazing! Waitress was great, portions were great, slaw was dangerously good.
Good halibut
Everything was great except service was bit slow. But it was understandable as restaurants are adjusting to the BC restart plan
Took my wife out to White Rock, figured we would try this new spot out because I heard from a friend it was really good. I was SUPER impressed. I will definitely be back every time I visit White Rock.
Unbelievably amazing samosas!!Thank you
I had a repeated horrible experience. The tables are not 6feet apart. The coleslaw has been downgraded to hard chunky horrible cabbage. When this restaurant was first opened, the coleslaw was soggy but it was delicious. Coleslaw gets soggy from mixing the cream/dressing with the chopped cabbage and stored a day or two before serving and soggyness indicates bacteria growth. Recently, I had to chew on chopped outter shells of cabbages and very little cream or dressing they called coleslaw. What a horrible taste! Do not eat the coleslaw...yuck. Nothing has been done to make it creamier or softer by using a softer type of cabbage. It seems like they use the outer hard shells of the cabbage. The fries are also burnt as if the oil was too hot and halibut is dried out inside. The quality is not the same great quality as it was 6 months ago. Id like to know what changes will be made before taking my friends to this location again.
Excellent fish n chips!
Great fish and chips try them out for yourself
It's a good place the service is good, their halibut is amazing Their cod fish is not that good And a little bit overpriced
Nice place really delicious food and really friendly stafd
I have tried their fish and chips few times, every time it was perfectly cooked. Service was excellent.
Wonderful service, the halibut was tender and delicious. The batter was nice n crispy. The tartar sauce was great, as we're the chicken samosas and shrimp! Definitely recommend and I'll be back 110%!
This place is seriously good! Forget the restaurants on the water, Fishin' Chips is much better. The Wednesday Halibut and Chips special is the best thing going at $11.95. Another reviewer complained saying they don't have homemade tartar sauce -- they do actually and it's really good! You just need to ask for it as an add on. Go try this place, you won't regret it!
The experience I had with the staff was extremely uncomfortable and they came off as very arrogant and rude. Not only do the waiters and waitresses don't get to keep the tips they make (all proceeds go to the owner) they were also blatantly racist. I heard the owner mutter under her breath "These people shouldn't be allowed in here" as well as the waiters being hesitant to take my order. I eventually just decided to leave. If you are of Chinese ethnic I don't recommend this place as you could be kicked out just for trying to enjoy some fish n chips, really unfortunate.
Absolutely Awesome Fish n Chips!!! Fantastic service even for just take-out during the no-dine restrictions. Definitely coming back soon!! 5/5
We’ve been craving fish and chips, and this certainly checked that box! We had halibut and cod and they were both fresh and flavorful! Come hungry because you’ll leave full with their generous portions. Food was quick and the staff were very friendly. We will be back! :)
The quality is not nearly as good as it was a year ago. Fries are exceptionally greasy and the cod is often very overcooked or dry. Also to note: The SkiptheDishes prices do not match the regular menu prices, so if you plan to pick up it's cheaper to phone in.
Went on a Tuesday & was all you can for $15. They give huge portions and it was delicious! Fresh fresh fresh & the chips are awesome. The coleslaw & tartar sauce was also excellent! Easy parking out front . We sat on patio. I would highly recommend if you feel like fish m chips. They also have deals everyday of week. I'm definitely going back
Good food, inexperienced server (imagine that). They're trying.
The best fish n' chips I've had in years.
I'm from England. Moved to Canada a quarter century ago. Today was the first time I had proper chips from a fish and chip shop in that time.
Very tasty. Need to add the ability to add a second piece of fish to the special without being 2+ times the cost. Amazing food.
Excellent food... Great portions, not greasy.
Excellent cod and chips, would definitely go here again! Waitress was great :)
The fries aren't my favorite but the fish is delicious.
Delicious
You cannot beat this place for fish and chips. It's our favourite go-to place. We frequent this place at least once a week, and more sometimes, even though it's a long drive for us. The pieces of fish are a satisfactory size and not greasy. Also, the service is friendly, as is the owner. I love the chocolates they give with the bill, and their prices are reasonable. They have all-you-can-eat on Tuesday for $15.99 and Wednesday is their halibut special for $9.99. 100% satisfied every time we go.
Fish was delish (haddock) and good size, but the fries were dead (barely warm, soggy). Unfortunately disappointing because good crispy and hot fries really are part of the experience. Cast your net elsewhere !
Great service!! A bit to greasy!
Your expensive sweet potatoes fries MUST get bigger for that price.
The good reviews for this restaurant are justified both for quality and value. If you are thinking of eating in though, please be aware that servers (and kitchen staff?) do not wear masks. Tables are properly distanced. Payment at the table is not a contact-less process although there is a hand sanitizer station on the way out. Because take out orders are not curbside, individuals do come into the restaurant to pick up, thereby increasing the total number of guests in the establishment during busy times.
Had a really good 1st 2 experiences here and everywhere all the food was excellent compared to other places. However I ordered take out a couple weeks ago and the fish and the chips were really not good, extremely dry. The following day I went back and showed the cook a picture of the chips. He sort of laughed at me and offered to give another set of fresh fries with no other option. On top of this I felt that the front server who took my order acted quite differently with me compared to a second person that came in and ordered take out, giving several options she didn't even give to me. not sure I will go back to this place.
Not as good as last time
Great place for Fish n Chips, the house tartar sauce is great and the seafood chowder is the best! Great prices and excellent service...
Guess what? The best Fishin’ Chips in White Rock might not be on Marine Drive facing the beach. If you like GREAT Fishin’ Chips you need to try this place.
Best fish and chips I’ve had for ages. Went on a Wednesday and the daily special was halibut & chips for $9.95. Opted to dine in and encountered no problems whatsoever.
The food was awesome!!!!! The fish was in fresh and tasted so good! Thank you Ronnie for the good service! We will be back soon! Asante! (Means thank you in Swahili)
Great food and friendly staff
In my opinion this is the best place for fish and chips in White Rock....very reasonably priced and the portions are huge as well! Fish and chips are not greasy at all ( could use a little more salt on the fish batter but I would rather have it less salty and add if needed ) Service has always been exceptional when we have dined in and today we had the halibut family dinner for takeout which did not disappoint! This is probably the best kept secret in White Rock but It is a secret that needs to be shared! Seems like a family run operation which is fairly new to the area so I really hope that we can all support this place if you love fish and chips
