Fish and chips were very good, not a heavy batter, I'll try again
Fish and chips, top billing. Perfectly cooked, light batter, flaky meat.
Great fish
A good location with great food, especially for its Zabiha Halal options.
Really liked the fish here, not oily and just the right amount of batter, probably the best I have had so far on the strip. The fries were alright but the cold slaw (the best I have had ) and tarter sauce made up for it. Staff was nice and friendly there was just one person working when we arrived and she was managing just fine, service was top notch. Will recommend this place and will be going back.
The food was great!
From a landlocked prairie boy, this was the best fish and chips I ever had. Batter was just right and the calamari was oh so good.
Great location , good portions and most importantly it was very tasty ????
Really good and way too much food for just one person lol... but halibut was amazing
My family had a fantastic yummy meal and we will for absolutely be returning
They had a great selection of seafood. They prawns we're huge and juicy and the calamari was not overcooked. Really enjoyable experience. They would get 5 stars if they had beer. They only had a couple of non alcoholic beers.
Horrible server ... my kids got traumatized how rude she was... we will never go back there again... i can't believed she was out there serving cooking she should be behind mental institution .
Was excited to try the food but didn’t even get a chance to because of the poor customer service.
Low key restaurant that blends into the sea side streets of White Rock. Has a nice view of the waters from the street side tables. Food was between average-good. Ingredients are fresh, but lacks uniqueness when compared to other seafood restaurants in the strip. We had the Captain's Platter and Fish Tacos which had generous portions. Unfortunately, they ran out of mangoes for the fish tacos which they told us about soon after ordering. We'll try this place again given their reasonable prices and quality food.
Fish & chips ordered and served quickly No alcohol. Eat in, or out or takeaway. Hesitant service as it was server’s first day – but a perfectly good experience.
I'm from Edmonton. Talked with the owner while I waited. Super nice guy. Fast service. Order 2 get 3 pieces. Few tables to sit at but quality food is great for takeout. Order comes with all the extras, all condiments and coleslaw. As good as any here.
Eight of us went to White Rock today and decided to stop in and try the fish n chips... Delicious, lightly battered fish, coleslaw was excellent and full of flavour. Chips actually tasted like chips and not like fish or oil. I highly recommend stopping in and if you have room for ice cream or gelato, check out the Crazy Cow down the street. They own that shop as well. Very very good.
The food is great and the people there are really friendly!
Best fish and chips...perfect fish really..and the chips were great too..new favorite,!!
The place was short-staffed so the 30 minute wait for takeout is somewhat forgivable. However, the fish was flavorless and rubbery, which even the runny, drool'ish looking tartar sauce could not remedy. The fries were thick with grease and chewy beyond all measure. I lost my taste for the coleslaw after smelling it, which oddly enough had the scent I thought the fish should've had. For $35 (two piece f+C times two), I'd expect at least to be able to stomach the whole meal. Just awful.
A trip to White Rock means halibut fish and chips. It's more expensive than the popular cod but so worth it. Not greasy, great coleslaw, malt vinegar, and we both got an extra piece of fish! It's take out only and there are a few nice tables to eat out front under a canopy of trees with nice jazz music to set the mood.
Amazing delicious fish and chips, great sevice and atmosphere! You will be a return customer for sure!
Small but nice and cozy, servers are all friendly. Love the antique theme interior and exterior. They have non-alcoholic Krombacker, which was tasty enough to have with fish & chips.
Good food and portions ran out of coleslaw but gave us onion rings and extra piece of fish.nice people
Delicious fish and chips! Very generous helping and fantastic service!! Would recommend
Fries were stale, fish wasn't very fresh.
Old women working here asked me to leave, I was reading reviews on what I should order. ???? Lol
Really great fish n' chips. I've tried several in White Rock and Fishboat is the best.
This is actually one of the best places I've had fish and chips at in the city. Would have been perfect but Tartar sauce needed some va-va-voom and the chips were slightly over cooked
The first best day of the spring and fish and chips is all I can think about. The owner of Fishboat tells the couple behind me not to "bother" waiting because it will be at least a 30 minute wait. I'm hopeful. I'm thinking the food has to be good. I'm mistaken. I'm sadly mistaken. It takes my order 30 minutes and the fish is overcooked, rubbery and slimy (which I never thought could exist together). The fries smell like the fish should taste, which is horrific, and the tartar sauce (at least I think that was tartar sauce), slithers over the slimy bread coating of the inedible fish. I gave a nod to coleslaw, basically we agreed that I should not attempt it. We we're right. At $10 for two two piece fish and chips, this is tolerable to a degree, but at $35, it's an inexcusable sin. Be careful!
The best fish and chips in town!
The place is like a tailor's boat. The fish and chips are so yummy. The staff are friendly
Very tasty and nice clean environment
Lunch
Wasn't expecting much originally as it seemed small, but the food was amazing, and the service was great. Food came pretty quick and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely go again in the future.
Good menu selection. English style fish and chips. Not your typical preformed. Give them a try.
The service was really fast and the staff were very friendly :-)
By far the best fish and chips in the area. We’ve tried the others but something about the flavour at fishboat is amazing, batter is lighter which is great, and the owner is such a great person. She’s always friendly and willing to accommodate us! It’s now the only place we come. I highly recommend the halibut!
A great spot for fish and chips.
Awesome. It was closed by five minutes, and still served me and made me welcome. Great fish n chips, plus much more.
There’s a lot of places to get fish and chips on Marine drive but having tried them all in my opinion this the best. Fresh locally caught cod and haddock in a light crispy batter. The housemade coleslaw and tartar are a perfect compliment. The fries and onion rings are also very good
No gravy.
Best Fish and Chips in the Lower mainland. Owner is awesome service is great. Can be a little pricey but hey its White Rock on the strip. Well worth it.
Very good calamari, nice patio looking out to the ocean. We'd go again.
The Fishboat has GREAT fish n chips! Excellent! I ordered the Captains Platter. Our server was named Quinn and he did a superb job. Thank you Fishboat for a great fish n chips!
The best fish and chips in the lower mainland, the owners take pride in giving the best service to the customers,, the best fish and chips I have ever tasted
Quality is very good and the owner is very nice! I recommend????
Meal type
Very good fish n chips!!
Fantastic fish and chips. You can then go eat them at the beach but don't forget your vinegar
Great food. Welcoming and friendly Would come back again :)
The salmon and chips was great! Crispy batter lightly coating a nice piece of fish. Fast service considering how busy they were.
Fantastic food, the only letdown was that the order took to long and some menu items were not available. The beautiful battered fish and salad that cane out made up for the letdowns.
Great fish and chips and the staff were friendly and efficient
Fish tasted super flaky and fresh. Generous portions. The fries tasted like they were cooked then thrown in the fryer again so they were drenched with oil and had a metallic taste. They have drinks and ice-cream too. We will be back for sure!
Absolutely fantastic, friendly, quick service. Batter was crispy and covered the whole fish - loved it. Fish itself was delicious and perfected what halibut should taste like. Got a lot of fries with my halibut for an excellent price. Just hope they have yam fries next time. Will return here again!
I had a lovely dinner. Very tasty fish and chips, big portion sizes. Nice cozy seating area. Will visit again.
Ate here with my boyfriend on a trip a couple days ago and he got really sick after we ate it and ended up getting food poisoning from the fish. I was fine, but it definitely ruined the whole trip for everyone. The lady working was also not the nicest when we ordered as well. The fries were kind of good, though.
Service
Large portions and not GREASY!????Happy to recommend them...
Great place. Love the food
The fish was awesome I'm from edmonton and it was so great that I packed the left over French fries and some halibut in my suitcase and saved it for 10 year anniversary dinner with my wife! I love fish tacos!
Rude
Best fish & chips we’ve shared down at White Rock beach! Thank you
Great staff at the takeaway window. The fish and chips where the perfect end to a walk along the seaside.
Terrible customer service.. Walked in with my gf to an open resteraunt with no one inside at all, during a day of the week not traditionally busy.. Anyways we asked to sit by the window but some older east Indian lady wasn't having any of that, saying she wants to reserve the spot for people in a bigger group when clearly it wasn't busy enough to make at all. Anyways we lost our interest at that point and decided to go somewhere else. We told the lady no thanks and she gave us the cold shoulder and said there's plenty of places to eat on the strip lol.. Umm exactly so cyu later.. Went to coney island next door and was treated like royalty and the food was excellent.. So all in all I wouldn't ever go back. It's hard to believe what you are saying because I made sure to walk by an hour later and the tables were still empty.. Thanks for the reply
Great fish and chips at very good prices, fast and friendly service
The food is good. Lady working is absolutely rude. She needs learn better customer service if they expect tips and return service
As a brit and a self declared officianado of quality fish n chips, i hereby declare Fishboat as a fully authenticated 5 star fish n chip restaurant . This place is easily as good if not better than the well known place a few metres away. I will go here every time in future .
Fish and chips were amazing and since its a little bit out of the way it wasn't too busy. Best prices along the strip as well.
Our usual fish & chip restaurant was not open on Friday, so we tried the Fish Boat. The fish and chips were exceptional! Light and crisp, best I’ve had yet. Will be going back here from now on!
"Fish n' Chips...just like England" is their claim and it's not far off the mark. The piece of fish is a little on the small side compared to back home, but it's cooked to perfection. The chips are actual English style chips and not fries, but they do leave the skin on
(Translated) Everything is great there (Original) Tout y est excellent
Best calamari (with an amazing horseradish sauce) and fish & chips!!! The batter on the fish (I tried the cod this time) is light and crisp, - Masterchef worthy - the fish is cooked to perfection! It's my new favorite place to go and enjoy good seafood!
Our family enjoyed a wonderful lunch with courteous and fast service, even though it was clear that the shop was busy - which is always a good sign! - and the chef/hostess was responsible for all manner of things, and nearly entirely on her own. Delicious dishes all, and we loved the fried pickles!
Awesome, hot and crispy
My wife and I stopped by The Fishboat yesterday afternoon . We thought we would give this place a try as the advertising outside looked encouraging especially the authentic English fish and chips claim. We ordered take out. What we got was anything but advertised. I ordered a fish burger that was a mushy, sloppy mess that contained almost no fish mostly batter and my wife who ordered fish and chips got a small thin piece of fish not generous at all as advertised. The chips were cold, overdone and greasy. We won't be back.
Have been to the fishboat twice when down visiting from Prince George . Both times the cod and chips were very good and really enjoy the house blend coffee . From reading other reviews I guess I was lucky to be there when not busy as the service was friendly and prompt for freshly prepared food .
Delicious! Fresh ingredients, great service, you won't be disappointed!
Best fish and chips on Marine Drive. We have tried most other restaurants and The Fish Boat still has the best one! Fresh fish perfectly fried means it just melts in your mouth, beautiful crispy batter (no soggy part, no hard one, just evenly and perfectly crispy). Comes with fresh cut crispy fries, coleslaw (home made with a delicious citrus dressing) and tasty tartar. Delicious and not greasy!
Just had lunch and the ladies there were just awesome the fish was delish and I would recommend to any one 5 star all the way ????????????????
Fish was fresh and it was real chips. Not those nasty french fries .
Very slow service and unprepared. They were run out of a lot of things. Water was warm and when we arrived they seated us at a dirty table. They should expect to be busy on a sunny day in white rock, but they were very shooken up. I won't be returning....
Best fish and chips in BC!
Great fish & chips, and some of the best cole slaw I've ever had. Very kind, friendly owners, and a nice beach view.
Woman working there was very rude and there was 2 hairs in my food. Wont be coming back
We had burito it was amazing.
my first time eating fish and chips and i made my expectations go up. everything was fresh and we didn't even have to wait that long. this place will be my to go from now on.
Delicious fish and chips! Great service, friendly family atmosphere!
Best fish and chips I've ever had! Fish had great flavor and was not too oily like some places can be. The texture of the fries was perfect! Coleslaw was light and tangy. Will definitely be back as fish and chips is one of my favorites!
Very slow. Bought a meal for my shut-in mom. She says it had a very bad taste. Many better choices on this street.
Preset food fish and chips, but a bit overpriced, and too busy in summer for the staffing.
Very rude service, went an hour before closing and the lady was swamped with work, told us numerous times that she was "alone and busy" and for us to "sit down and wait". She wouldn't even take our order . Seemed annoyed with our presence.
Best fish and chips. Great service! Has a cute little homemade ice cream at the window next door (delicious). Will definitely be coming back.
Came in on a super slow Sunday, got seated and I ordered a beef burger and my boyfriend got some fish n chips. We were the only ones there, and as they were preparing the food I heard a microwave go on in kitchen...not something you want to hear in my opinion. I took 2 bites of my burger and I just could force it down. My bf who loves burgers way more than I do said he couldn't even eat it. It was worse than the burger that a highschool cafeteria would serve; it was really not warm at all and tough... It was sad.
After my trip to White Rock I was looking for a good fish and chips shop. After scouring up and down the beach I settled for the Fishboat. I was not wrong in my decision. The woman who greeted me as I walked in was very pleasant even though they were extremely busy. After a bit a spot cleared up and I sat down. After finally deciding on a 2 piece fish and chips I waited. The wait was well worth it as what they brought me was superb! Wasn't overly greasy and the fish flaked perfectly. One down side is they don't serve alcohol but that was something I didn't care about since the fish was perfect. Next time I come out here I will definitely be returning.
Dine in
Fantastic place to go for fish and chips.
Best Halibut in White Rock.
Best fish and chips ever! Light and crispy, and a generous portion. The fish was very fresh and perfectly cooked. The owner was very pleasant and obviously cares about quality. Even though we just ordered two pieces of halibut, we found an extra half portion in the box. As residents of West Van we haven't been to White Rock for many years, and just by luck we chose the Fishboat from a variety of other places, which also looked fine. This meal at the FishBoat was the perfect finish to a lovely day.
Looking for a quick easy and DELICOUS meal ? The "Fishboat Restaurant" was an absolutely awesome find. Offering "cod" and or "halibut" fish and chips my spouse and I ordered one piece of each. Fresh fish cooked to perfection, lightly battered and deep fried in clean fresh oil as were the french fries. Awesome !
The cod and chips were amazing! The service was excellent, and we will definitely be returning!
The food was fresh and delicious with the Generous Portions ????
The food was tasty, but I found the size of fish was way smaller than the hamburger bun, a simple solution would be to use smaller buns. There also seems to be something unprofessional about the manager/staff here - I overheard the lady talking to a family and found it somewhat rude. However they were also that local independent kind of place.
The food was freshly prepared and great service.
First time here and I like it.
Excellent service and awesome food. The best fish and chips. The owner was amazing.
Very bad experience. Bad customer service. We asked for take out. The guy said it will take only 5 mins. It was chilly n windy outside. We came in to wait for our food. We were rudely asked to leave n stand outside. Despite having sitting places inside. Food is ok. Not that great. Will never go there again.
A good place for a summer evening meal. Came to Fishboat on a Thursday evening and atmosphere was relaxing...nice views at a great location. We ordered the Captain's Platter & weren't disappointed. Fish was battered perfectly with golden prawns and calamari. Fries were also delicious. Food was certainly worth the price! Plus service was v. prompt and efficient. Will definitely be returning next time we're in White Rock.
Fish was good. Fries were so-so. Location was nice.
We have visited fish boat thrice...the first time was perfect the owner (male)was welcoming n kind n the food was good...second time we called a head of time and made a reservation via phone with owner(male) got to the restaurant found the co owner (female) she proudly said it's my restaurant am the wife and we don't make reservations via the phone, from the get go she is rude and very unpleasant so we just left without ordering due to her bad demeanor went straight to Moby's...third time called again to reserve the owner assured us via phone that he will make the reservation for us.We got to the restaurant unfortunately we found the wife again same as before rude n very unpleasant to deal with and said they don't make reservations n I ask why does the husband ok reservation but when u get to the restaurant the wife treats us awfully n says they don't make reservations? We went ahead placed an order n our burgers were sloppy n the fries dry n most of them inedible...we told the owner(wife) about the food dissatisfaction n she was just defensive not willing to hear or accept our feedback. The chef came n offered 10%discount for the dissatisfaction.Would we ever go again or recommend anyone to visit fish boat NO ...simply because of bad food ,and an owner (wife) who treats n talks to customers like she has no clue what good customer service n retention is in business.
