Best fish and chips nice big pieces less batter will go again. Love there coleslaw it is not a creamy it's a vinaigrette.
Service
It’s been years since I had fish and chips and I was happy with the food here FISH: very good, halibut was much lager than expected perfectly cooked (one is more than enough for an average person/appetite) FRIES: Great! And full portion, but definitely not the huge portioning i was expecting after reading other reviews. Expectations are key to perspective. COLESLAW: very different than what I am used to. Looked like plain grated cabbage, with a taste of sweetness and vinegar. I can see why some people might prefer it but it’s not my preference.... although it certainly helped counteract the greasy feeling of the fried food ???????? SERVICE: polite, friendly and efficient. ATMOSPHERE: 1 min walk across the street to the beach is perfect ????. PRICE : slightly better than its next door competitor, but still quite high. I guest that’s to be expected on a touristy drive though.
Best fish n chips on the strip, don’t bother with the other places. Great family that runs the place, always great service and even better food!
The fish and chips were good but the clams weren't good at all. Reminded me of the frozen breaded ones you can buy from the grocery store. Also was quite pricy. The young lady working the counter was very lovely.
Forget pajos - this place has THE best fish and chips in the lower mainland. Must keep coming back to this place. Owners are nice and always has food ready according to how long Google tells me it takes to get there. ???? I'll drive 21 mins for this place one way, it's worth it.
Horrible experience. Asked for 3 pc halibut and chips at $31.95 plus 1 extra fish. Added onion rings and tartar sauce for $7. Charged me $62. I should have not have paid and walked away. They wouldn't create order as asked. Poor English skills. Do Not Recommend.
Great fish and chips here.I had the Halibut which I don`t see much in the UK chip shops. The halibut and chips were cooked and tasted very good.Spoke to the owner who was very friendly and he told me he`d had the shop for 29 years and he had a special oil blend to cook the fish and chips
Decent little place. Good eats, cheaper prices but ... nothing compares to Moby Dicks next door. Sorry Coney Island but either place is worth checking out ...
My family has been coming here before I was born. This is literally the best fish and chips I have had in my life. The portions are huge, the fish is fresh hand battered, light and crispy. The chips are insanely good and the tartar sauce is homemade. Small hole in the wall with exceptional fish and chips. Don't be fooled by the other spots around, this is the best place to enjoy fish & chips!
Coney Island is a fantastic little quick service fish and chips shop on White Rock's Marine Drive. While there are many choices here, we find Coney Island to be well above average (and possibly the best) in the area. We usually grab two one piece meals, one halibut, one cod, and walk over to the beach to enjoy the view. The fish pieces are huge, and the chips are classic, crispy, and lovely with ketchup or malt vinegar. The coleslaw is nice (vinegar based dressing) too. The breading on the fish is crispy, and the fish itself is perfectly cooked, flakey, and tasty. This place is a treat on a sunny afternoon!
Great fish and chips. Made while you wait so it tastes and looks fresh. It started to drizzle just a little while we waited. The waiter came outside and kindly offered and then followed through with moving our table under the awning. The lady taking our order was really sweet. Super friendly staff. It's not much to look at, but don't let that deter you from stopping in.
Fast, and great portion. It’s nice that they put the 2 items in the cardboard tray which makes everything easy to carry. Condiments and utensils provided, nothing was missed. Calamari with fries ~$14 and onion rings for ~$6.
This is the BEST Fish and Chips BAR NONE!!! We have been going there for over 25 years
The portions are large. The halibut was quite thin but had a lot of area. I would prefer it be smaller and thicker. The batter is good but when the slice is that thin it becomes too much batter and not enough fish. Still tastes good but could be better. Very busy place though so clearly lots like it.
Just treated ourselves tonight to Fish and Chips here on the water 2 pcs of cod and fries...and was not disappointed! This chef knows what he is doing...the fish was light, non-greasy and moist.... and the portions are generous. We will most certainky be returning.
My wife and I have been going to Coney Island for years . I must admit , maybe a couple times it wasn’t their greatest day . But everyone is human . Other than that , the BEST fish and chips EVER . as for customer service, always pleasant and friendly. There was a time they didn’t have my beverage of choice , they ran out and got it . THAT is over and above customer service . Seeing the 100 lb. sacks of potatoes in the back , there’s no doubt the chips are fresh . Best fish ( COD & halibut ) , the batter is sooo tasted and tin . Not too thick or greasy. Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone . See you again soon Coney Island.
The best fish and chips ever! I would definitely recommend over all the other fish and chip restaurants on the whole road! And at a great price as well. Don’t waste your time at any other fish and chips restaurant!
The best fish and chips I ever had! We got the seafood platter and grilled chicken salad, both were very delicious and this place is going to be our to go place everytime we are in White Rock :)
So I have been going to Coney Island for my fish and chips for as long as I can remember! Eating in or taking out has always been amazing =D I brought my friends along awhile back and they enjoyed it! They were not expecting the size of the fish they got for the price. Well worth my time and business here! <3
I've been going to this restaurant since I was a little kid and it will always be my favorite fish and chips. Nothing can beat it! I used to come after dance class with my grandparents because we lived just up the hill, the family has always recognized us and been extremely friendly; so if you're looking for family made traditional fish and chips Coney island is the place to go!
Best fish & chips in town
Ordered the 2 piece Cod fish and chips. Shared between me and my Fiance and we were left both very satisfied. The batter was very light and fries were nice and crispy. It didn't give us that heavy guilty feeling that you usually get after a greasy cheat meal. The wait was not long, service was friendly and was a great finish on a nice sunny Sunday.
If your looking for some Halibut, this is a great place to get it, portions are good. I recommend you split a 2-3 piece. Fries and onion rings are nice and crispy. Will be back when I want some fish and chips!
Amazing fish and chips. Halibut gets a thumbs up!! Biggest poutine I have ever gotten for $7. A bit of a long wait however it's worth it! They properly batter and cook the fish and fries. Delish! And very friendly staff and cooks.
.Good fish, although we found there wasn't nessasarlty enough. Fish was not greasy and very tasty. The chips were good and the tarter sauce was amazing! Service was fast and good. Excellent meal out!! Highly recommended
My new favourite place! Forget Pajos (mediocre at best). Dave's is still my go to in Steveston, but if I'm in white rock Coney Island is the place to go! As I've had Pajo's more recently, at the time of writing, Pajo's is about $15 for 2 pieces, but they are small, like maybe around the palm of my hand. Coney island is about $12 for one piece, but that piece is around 1.5 of what Pajo's one piece is like. However, for a meal, you can easily share one piece for two people (or two pieces for two people if you're ambitious). Fries are decent, feels like freshly chipped fries. Doesn't leave your mouth with too much of a starchy taste. Generous portions of Ketchup and Tartar sauce on a take out box that doubles as a good lap table when eating outside on the pier.
My all time favourite fish and chips place. Not a lot of people know about this place and they should! Their portions are huge, their items are fresh and the staff is so friendly and sweet
Always loved this place, dad took us there when we were little kids. Just love their burgers!! Fish are huge pieces!!
My third time within the last year, and it’s consistently fabulous. Just the right amount of breading, fresh oil. Huge pieces of halibut and tonnes of fries. And the tartar sauce? It’s great too. I recommend over the neighbor, it just tastes better and more fresh. Less lineup too. (I’ll give some credit next door, their tartar sauce is also really darn good).
For Fish & Chips it's the best on the beach. The batter is light, price is excellent and portions very generous. The halibut is the best value - it's UFO sized - huge. I'm not a fan of the vinagarette coleslaw - i prefer creamy, and their other seafood leaves much to be desired (calamari esp). But for pure fish and chips go here and get the 3 piece Halibut and chips!
I have been going to this fish and chip joints for years. Its the best on the beach in my opinion. You get massive pieces of fish and large amount of fries. Im a fairly big and active guy and can eat alot, and after a 2 piece I am completely stuffed. Its a family run and owned business and all of the employees I have interacted with have all been very pleasant, smiling and happy to help. They filter their oil everyday and change it twice a week, so you get nice golden, crisp fish as opposed to the darker, browner variety. Give it a shot.. you wont be disappointed. =)
Large portions for reasonable price. Good location, away from the crowded spots. Long wait for takeouts. Flavourful batter and crispy fries. Fish was very greasy, way too much oil taste. My friends had the same opinion about the fish. Overall an okay experience.
Great fish & chips ???????? I've been going there for years, and I highly recommend the halibut.
Great deals at a really good price. Awesome for lunch during a bike ride or a stroll at the beach.
Most underrated place. You guys have to try it, as a foodie this fish and chips is the best I've ever had.
Loved the food! Given in an easy takeaway crate
Take out
Seemed good but it was take out only and we were brushed off very quickly
We had 4 cods and onion ring. Onion ring is awesome. Portion of cod are huge. However. It did not fully cooked in center. And dipping source is good.
staff is nice, food is delicious andd big servings price is okay definitely worth going here
I've been coming to this restaurant for 34 years and it never disappoints. The halibut is amazing!
We love coming here whenever we goto whiterock. Best fish and chips around and really friendly staff. The fish is really good and the pieces are big. The price is pretty good too.
Excellent fish and chips and great service. Has the feel of an older diner inside, but everything is super clean and well-kept. It shows off the pride of a well-run family business! The fish is hot and fresh, tartar sauce and coleslaw (vinaigrette style) are both delicious. This style of fish and chips is more of the flat slab of fish, and works perfect in their fish sandwich. Give this place a try, and you'll be addicted like I am! Worth the drive.
Excellent fish hamburger with fries. Big portions and super friendly service! Great place to grab a lunch in White Rock and enjoy it on the beach.
So disappointed I went for opening at noon and they weren’t open. I looking in the window and didn’t see anyone and nothing seemed ready to go to open at 12 considering it was 11:58. So unfortunately I had to go next door. I love this places but was disappointed today. Next time!
My family and I had lunch there today. We spend $80. The coleslaw was seasoned only with vinegar. It was not a typical creamy dressing. The fries were not home-made and they previous frozen. I uncoated ordered pan fried fish. It was coated in so much egg that I first thought that they forgot the fish and gave me only an omelette. Sadly, we tossed about 70% and fed another 10% to the birds. When my dad went to share his disappointment, the gentleman offered to refund an amount but then the female employee refused. I would have given more stars if the staff would have been more sympathetic to our disappointments.
Always went to the other fish shop but will not be going back. Coney Island fish and chips was by far a better product. Large fish portions and a thin batter. Not greasy. Give them a try
Absolutely the best by far. Mike and his family make you feel welcome and at home, awesome people and awesome food. The Seafood Platter is my favorite!
The portions are huge and the fish is nicely fried with a really crunchy batter. Not to heavy and not to oily. The good thing about this place is that they fry the fish fresh for every order. I've gotten crispy and tender fish every single time. But the true winner is the tartar sauce they serve. must try it
First time here and it's true what other reviews said. Big fish and lots of chips. Fish had a light but crispy batter, tasted great as were the chips. Gravy really good. Will be going back as it's better than the one we used to go to. Go try it out.
Got 2 piece cod with fries. Huge portion of fries with 2 huge pieces of fish. Well seasoned and flavourful. Asked for the fries well done and they were just right. Split with my partner and we still had a good amount of fries left over. Would definitely come back here for fish and chips.
Fish was ok, large piece but it was very thin. The shrimp, calamari, and scallops are all breaded with the same breading and same seasoning which is too much for the flavors of the fish itself so they all end up tasting the same. Service was highly lacking as we finally got up to pay the bill which wasnt brought to us like other tables had been and we only saw our waiter twice the whole time, once to take our order and once to deliver the food. Lastly it couldnt have been more than 16 degrees making it uncomfortable and the food got cold quick.
Great food when open. Don’t trust the hours on google maps.
Excellent fish and chips for a good price. Great customer service over the phone and in person. I appreciate their willingness to accommodate large orders. They are quick with orders. Their shop is in a perfect place to wonder the beach after you eat.
I have come to Coney Island since I was 8 and I’m 26 now. I have tried the fish and chips all along white rock. Coney Island is THE place to get fish and chips in white rock. I’m telling you, my tastebuds have never been slapped harder with pure flavour. Fish is ALWAYS hot and crisp, with the batter not being too heavy, and the fries are light and fluffy like a cloud. The oil they use is high quality, as after you eat here you don’t feel bloated or heavy. Nice amount of grease on the fish (naturally). Killer tartar sauce. The family than run it are friendly and always efficient. They have excellent hours for the quality of seafood you get here. You won’t wait long and they are so proud of their food you can watch them cook it right in front of you through their open style window. They won’t hesitate to hook you up with vinegar, ketchup, or anything you need for your fish n chips. Do yourself a favour, try it out and see for yourself!
I had come down to the beach to walk my dogs with my mum for the evening. We planned to get some fish n chips after for dinner. We had finished the walk and I ventured out to get the food. It was just before 8 pm and I saw that Coney Island had a take-out window so I headed over. I was greeted right away and I ordered two pieces of fish and chips, with one more piece of fish. As I was waiting I realized that the restaurant closed at 8 pm (ahh!!) so I felt terrible about ordering so close to closing. When my food came I received three HUGE pieces of fish, probably the biggest I have ever seen. Piping hot with fries and two tartars. The fish was so good and I was so grateful to have been served. I will definitely be going back in the future!!
Best fish and chips on the beach!! Halibut portion is huge fries are fresh it's not to greasy and their coleslaw is like no other. They open kinda late in the day but it's worth the wait !! Must try ????
BEST Fish✅ - light and crispy batter without the greasiness! BEST Chips✅ - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! BEST Tartar Sauce✅ - mmm, tasty! I highly recommend getting the halibut????????
One of the best fish and chips I have had for a long time. Portion size is huge, only wish they would use bigger plates. Prices are reasonable and the service is good.
Absolutely delicious!! Best cod and tartar sauce I’ve had in a long time .. and the pieces of fish are huge !!!
My friend showed me this place and I have never had such good fish and chips. It doesn’t leave you feeling greasy like anywhere else you go. The slaw is incredible and crisp, not sloppy and mayo based, pairing perfectly with the fish
Our favourite little fish and chips place along the beach in White Rock. A couple can easily share an order. Halibut and chips are the best. Friendly, very reasonable prices and great service. That's why we always return.
I would give it a 10 * if I could We have been to Coney Island over 15 years the fish and chips are amazing! We won't go anywhere else.I am sad to see that there has not been as much business last summer because of the pier & now due to covid.Cant wait to return. This family run business is always so friendly from grandma to grandchildren . We either take it to go or we come in just to to see everyone and take in the views and a nice stroll along the beach! This is My Little Secret fish and chip place but I just want to say thank you to everyone there for your amazing service and food!!- See you soon. Thanks ????????
The best fish and chips restaurant on east beach in White Rock BC. Take out is a treat but the seating area inside is dark and in much need of repair and updating.
Meal type
I visited here with my cousin and sister in law on a Friday night for takeout. I had the chicken strips and fries, my cousin had poutine and my sister in law had a chicken burger and fries. All of our meals were hot and delicious. The portion sizes were huge, and the food was inexpensive. I couldn’t finish mine! The service was great, very family style, and they were very welcoming. I would 100% go back here.
This restaurant has the best ever fish and chips in white rock. The best meaty halibut fillet , battered to perfection. The cod and chips are also amazing, and the portions are a good size. Staff at this restaurant are very pleasant and accommodating. We Have been eating here fir a long time, and don’t go anywhere else. This place is a hidden gem.
Very big portions, I couldn’t finish 1 piece with chips portion with my daughters ;). Piece of fish is huge and they have halibut option. Taste great, not greasy. Service is quick and very friendly. Priced good compare to neighbored fish and chips and as I said they have halibut but others not. We recommend.
I crave coneys all summer! It was a go to place for my family since I was a child and now my kids love it too! Amazing portion for price, crispy and delicious! I'm drooling writing this haha but 11/10 for me & service is always great, their family is the best :)
