Here we offer you all the feddbacks of real people who are purchasing the products of Olive & Anchor (Fish Shop) in West Vancouver (Canada).
At the moment this firm gets a score of 4.4 stars over 5 and the score is based on 127 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is very good, and it is based on a large number of reviews, so we can think that the evaluation is very reliable. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they've done well with the service, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Restaurant.
We enjoyed a fabulous lunch this afternoon, great combination of good food and excellent customer service.
This place is great, from start to end I had a very good experience here. We arrived close to 7 and have to wait for about 15 minutes or so to have a table. Is a very pleasant place, with warm lighting, the music is no load at all the feels very cozy, it's a shame I didn't have the time to enjoy a glass of wine. I ordered the Beef Thai Curry, I enjoy each bite, the beef is very tender, rice has the Jasmine flavor and vegetables were great. I will definitely come back in my next visit to houseshoe bay
Our favourite local restaurant for both family and kid-free dinners. Great food, staff and service.
I ordered 2 fish and chips to take out. It smelled good, but when opened the box, 1 small cod and 1 large cod stuck together on top of the very greasy fries. All of them were so soggy. The cod was very dry and no taste of it as if old frozen fish was just deep fried. Potato fries got even stuck with the paper container, and a part of paper surface attached on the fries. I wondered what kind of oil they use. I would never go back.
I placed a take-out order for 3 orders of fish n’chips & appetizers, drinks & soup. Picked up the order and we sat in the car outside to eat it BUT No Coleslaw? Apparently if you don’t eat in the restaurant you don’t get coleslaw. Well guess what, I’m going to eat somewhere else where they serve coleslaw for takeout. See ya
Dinner
Good food, salmon flatbread is great! Try Anchor burger too - won't regret it! View of the bay is ok if you seat on the patio. Staff was friendly, service was fast (but we came at around 2 pm - so lunch was almost done, not the busiest time for sure). 1 star off for the washrooms, could be a bit cleaner. For the rest it is great place.
This is Vancouver's best kept secret... located in Horseshoe Bay. The food here is exceptional. Pick any item from the menu and you will not be disappointed. Portions are good and prices are reasonable. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Make sure you leave room for dessert.
Great spot. Dog friendly. They welcomed us and our miniature dachshund to the back patio. The patio is well done. Perfect spot. We ordered the halibut and chips and the cod and chips. Both meals were great. Take a drive out to Horse Shoe Bay with your hound and enjoy first rate fish and chips.
Had the seafood cioppino. Sounds good on paper, but tastes like a frozen seafood medley boiled. $29 and it comes with a one ounce piece of salmon and one ounce piece of cod mixed in with the clams and mussels. Gave them two stars and not one because at least the prawns tasted fresh. They have an option to add $2 to substitute brown rice for a gluten free meal. You'd think they meant there is some pasta in the soup, but no. They meant the small slice of deep fried bread on the side. When you're done with the seafood you're left with salty tomato sauce with a hint of white wine and nothing to eat it with. You could drink it, but the sodium would give you a preemptive heart attack before the bill comes. You can be sure you will leave the restaurant as salty as the seafood cioppino.
Just had a great lunch at O and A today, June 15th. The efforts to ensure a safe dining experience are obvious even before entering the restaurant. Their philosophy of sincere care for customers and their own staff deserves to be applauded. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to enjoy all of the favourites we have come to love. Kudos to Management and Staff of the Olive and Anchor in such a challenging time, particularly for the food service industry.
Stopped in for lunch while waiting for the ferry and was impressed. Great service and the food was delicious...I had the Korean pork shoulder.
Love this place. I always come here when I'm visiting horseshoe bay!
Staff nice. Food really good. However...we never got a glass of water or coffee offered. One person asked for a water and got it, but it was not offered to anyone. I had to go find the server to ask for a coffee. Even then, nobody else was asked if they wanted coffee or tea.
Great experience from the moment we stepped inside. Staff were professional, charming and patient. Food was fantastic and I look forward to returning.
Lunch
Great location in beautiful Horseshoe bay village across the street from the ocean. The interior is not very special but the food is really good. I have tried their fish& chips, crispy chicken burger and clam chowder soup and all were great. Every thing was fresh. For fish and chips, they don’t serve halibut out of season as they don’t use frozen fish! It’s a bit pricy and it’s justified by location and quality. It’s Definitely worth to try
Food was great . The crowd was typical .... generations of Vancouver’s Privledged . We were seated in a section reserved for 40. Which explains their rushing my husband and I to order quick eat and pay. Kept interrupting us to hurry along. FINALLY .... they explained and we left No Dinner . Went to Boathouse New West and got over charged left hungry and poor . Gotta love Vancouver !! Haves and the Have Nots .
Got a two piece fish and chips and a basic meal sized Caesar salad (no protein) to go and it cost almost 35 dollars before tip. Had to go back and ask for tartar sauce that was advertised for the fish and chips. Staff are fairly nice, but the quality of food isn't worth the price you end up paying.
Olive & Anchor is an elevated neighbouhood restaurant. I practically feel like family every time I visit. The KFC chicken wings, salmon flat bread and tuna salad are standout dishes. Also, save room for the breat pudding for dessert.
My wife and I split the muscles and the tempura oyster burger. Both were fantastic. Staff was quick and welcoming. Rotating seasonal tap choices paired well with the dishes and were reasonably priced.
Just a wonderful atmosphere with fantastic food. We ordered the fried brussels sprouts which were incredible. Highly recommend. The vibe is very cozy and simple dividers have been setup to maintain a safe environment.
We had a great experience dining here. From the location to the food (we had albacore tuna salad and beef thai curry), the service, cleanliness, and COVID-19 precautions, everything was great. We will definitely come back next time we are in the area.
Great experience at Olive and Anchor tonight. Buck a Shuck Fanny Bay oysters, Korean fried chicken wings and bibimbap, and seared albacore tuna salad. Every dish was spot on, service was friendly and helpful, ambiance very nice. Decent beer selection but would not recommend their cocktails: the yuzu margarita was much too sweet. However the server realized my wife wasn’t a fan and didn’t charge us for it and she had a great Phillips beer instead.
Great place to stop for a quick bite to eat and drink if you have the time before catching a ferry - they provide excellent and a quick service if you need it. Staff are always very pleasant. There's a nice little patio. If you have a dog you can tie your dog on the sidewalk side of the patio fence and sit on the patio next to it.
Great food. Excellent service. Best plane to eat when Stop in at horseshoe bay
A great stop while waiting for the ferry. They have a take out window and menu that makes it easy to grab food to go. They are along the waterfront and a scenic place to eat. Really enjoyed the albacore tuna salad and fish tacos. The food was ready quickly and they gave accurate time estimates. It helped with timing the ferry.
A true hidden gem of a food destination. A gourmet restaurant situated in a warm, neighbourhood pub atmosphere. A bit pricey for what you get (you are not in East Van here) but the flavours are just right. The have everything from linguine pescatore and burgers to brussel sprouts and fish tacos. The bread pudding is amazing.

The only reason I give a five star rating is because there is no six star rating..????????♂️ By the way, there Saturday only breakfast from nine to noon is to die for!
We just tried this restaurant again. We have been here before(2 years ago). I am glad to say the food was very good, good service and great ambiance. If you are in the area, then you may want to stop by and try the clam chowder ????
Delicious! I had the ramen and my husband had the steak. The staff was super friendly. Couldn't be a better night thanks to this restaurant!
Although the location is amazing, the owner/manager ruins it. He was belligerent and rude after I brought a reasonable complaint to his attention (asked for vegetarian, but dish came with meat). Another staff member came over after his outburst and apologized which was a nice gesture but what an unprofessionally run place that waiters are apologizing for their bosses behaviour. Don’t waste your time here, there’s a great place next door.
They have a small menu because the turnover is quite High with the ferry traffic but each dish is absolutely to die for. Amazing flavors and a fantastic wine list
Food was good. Price tag was moderate. Drinks were lacking.
Great place with a great service.
Great spot in Horseshoe Bay "village"! Stopped for a late lunch bite/drinks and we are glad we chose the Olive & Anchor. The service was welcoming, friendly and great. The seating outside under the tented canopy was a perfect combination of sun, fresh air and openness. I enjoyed the cold Coronas while my guest loved her perfectly chilled Sparkling Rose. We ordered the fish tacos which came promptly and were hot and delicious. Pricing was inline with other similar place pricing and I feel was very good value. Again the service was very good and we'll be sure to go again. Highly recommend it!!
Nice but with some problems The food is a mix. My salad was excellent but the beef in the burger very average and would not have it again. The service was slow to a point that other later tables were served and left before we got our food. We were offered one free dessert for the extra wait. The restaurant was out of the special that was still advertised on the street. Our neighbour table ordered a fish and returned it twice.
Great place to wait for the ferry. Their oyster burger is great! Too bad they don’t offer raw oysters like they used to. One note if you want to use Wifi its stupid slow!
VERY good food ! Also, on top of being excellent, the fish is certified by the Vancouver Aquarium, bonus points for the environment. Would recommend going for take out and eating on a bench by the ocean if the weather is nice !
Misleading information on the menu, is not clear about the promotions, it just shows how they're taking advantage of people! on this bad times, food was ok, their not many options to eat at this area but definitely don't go to this one. We ask for straw and the host or guy in charge make a funny comment instead of just do what he was supposed to.
Delicious food and friendly service! We got the clam chowder, fresh oysters, crispy cod tacos, and the albacore tuna salad. Everything was so fresh and tasty! The cod tacos were absolutely perfect... super light and crispy cod with a thin tortilla. The salad was unbelievable! Super tender tuna with such vibrant and fresh flavors. We enjoyed our meal very much and would highly recommend coming here.
The food is always yummy, the service is always quick, and the atmosphere is lovely.
Great food with a greater atmosphere.
Nice food, right portion, friendly service. Wr had a great time.
Olive and Anchor is our go-to place when waiting for a ferry at Horseshoe Bay. Service is always fast, and very professional. Presentation is perfect, and the food is awesome.
Delicious food with great ambiance in a cute village at a clean, safe, fine cuisine restaurant. Also, we had fantastic service by our waiter named Liam. We had an amazing time while celebrating my partner's birthday during the pandemic. Thank you again for the memorable experience.
Tasty food. Easy access from the ferry. Great if you're looking for a quick bite before heading further into Vancouver or if you have time to kill prior to heading out to Nanaimo. Nice little touches such as fish humour on the paper used to serve the fish and chips, house made tartar sauce and coleslaw, and hand cut potatoes used to make the fries. Service was efficient, especially in spite of how busy they were over lunch and right after disembarking from the ferry. Staff were friendly and obviously enjoyed working there.
This place is amazing. It is so convenient; right by the ferry! It's enough around the corner, maybe another 8-10m further from the ferry than Trolls [I think was the name] that it wasn't too busy. Staff were great; top notch recommendations, speed of service, personality. Will for sure be heading to ferry even earlier next time so we can try some dessert the table beside us was raving about!
Food is always great. We enjoyed their fresh fish and chips and delish oyster burger! However we really felt terrible at the latest visit. The younger lady server who has dark color long hair kept ignoring us when we entered. In fact, nobody else acknowledged us and we kept waiting for the service for more than a half hour. It was not busy at all. Then she went greetings to other customers who came in after us. She seemed nice to everyone else. Finally the bartender guy came over our table for taking our orders. He apologized the wait and he was quite nice. After the bartender served us, the female server saw us with such a dirty look. Gosh, I cannot believe her whole attitude. Btw, we are an Asian family living in Canada for long time with fluent English communication skill.
Meal type
Yes. For upscale clientele only. I have to change my review because this used to be quite an upscale place but it's clear they are now catering to the workers of the area. The food quality has gone down and so has the service level. Yet prices remain quite high
A little lacking on the vegetarian fare. I had my son with me and for a nice establishment they were really cool about it. Some places can be real jerks if you have a younger child with you. ***Read all of this*** I got a meal that I thought had hair in it, and they replaced it and comped the meal which was awesome customer service. I think I might have been wrong though after I got the replacement, so I tipped the value of the meal. It was the brioche French toast which has little strands in it and I wasn't sure because they look like hairs. If you guys read this, maybe check that out so you don't have the same problem later. Sorry, hopefully we can still be friends.
I’m surprised this place never gets crowded, it’s one of horseshoe bay’s hidden gems. This place is always consistently good and the seafood served here are always fresh.
Excellenc ambiance. Service was exceptional, given that we were in a rush. Table seating anywhere works out great. Cool buzzers at each table!
Wonderful view and good foods! Staffs are very nice too! Strongly recommended!
Got there around 1:30 in the down season and got seated almost immediately. The food was pretty good and service was quick. We did not wait long for the food. However their homemade lemonade is a lie. It tastes exactly like the powdered lemonade you can get at Walmart.
Love their Crispy Chicken Burger and yam fries. Possibly the best burger! And the portions of yam fries are really big. Shame they don't have the crispy chicken burger on the evening menu as well. Very friendly and efficient servers.
. changing my review.....each consecutive time I come here the service gets worse....the staff gets ruder and meaner and are more self entitled. It's sad because the food is good. But if u treat guests like you are doing us a favour....well....we will go elsewhere. Sorry
Food was amazing, service was great, mood is fantastic, and most importantly, their bread pudding is one of the best in Vancouver!! Would definitely come back again even just for the bread puddings ????????
Service
Good food, good service, good Covid standards. I felt $8 to add chicken to my salad was a bit much. Was worth it tho and will definitely be back.
Food was fast and delicious, staff was friendly and helpful. We will return to try more menu options.
Controversial opinion : They have the best sweet potato fries in the lower mainland. Just plain facts: Their chicken burger is absolute fire and they have a takeout window so you can have chicken burger on the go!
Service
One star for closing at 8 everyday. Ugh.
Great food in a cool little building. Beautiful views create good ambience only made better when you taste the food!
This place definitely gets busy on evenings, period — even Mondays — but it's definitely worth trying out. The food is quite good for the price, the aesthetic is friendly, the staff are pleasant, it's in a beautiful location… if you're waiting for a late evening ferry, or you're visiting Horseshoe Bay, or if you want to get dinner before a drive up to Whistler, check this place out! (It's also only one bus from Downtown, via the 250 — ***not*** 250A! — or 257, so it's fairly convenient, considering how far out of the way it is.)
We've been to Horseshoe bay many times but never visited this place before. We had some beer, chowder, mussels, baked meat pie, calamari and fresh oysters. Everything was so delicious! Above our expectations for sure. Service was very good as well. We liked this place so much that we visited again 3 weeks later. Definitely recommending it to family and friends.
Excellent mussels and fries! Food is consistently good here; however, THREE servers brought us our bill along with the credit card machine before we finished our meal even though we said we weren't quite ready to leave. It was a Saturday evening but the restaurant wasn't full.
Ever since the renovations a few years back the food and atmosphere have SKYROCKETED. Delicious food, fresh and tasty and BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN THE LOWER MAINLAND.
Had their dineout menu. Arugala beet salad, very fresh and good combination of sweet, bitter, sour from pomegranate seeds and whipped goat cheese to balance it all out Miso crusted salmon was cooked....I have no idea how, but thw texture was like butter....it was outstanding! Came on a miso broth with bok Choy, could have done without the random potato put there. Creme brulee with biscotti, was creamy but biscotti was a bit stale.
Little expensive but good food nice service
The food was great and the servers were kind. The place was kept very tidy and clean. Would definitely come here again
Meal type
Good food. I used to go here often a couple of years ago but I believe they have changed chefs as the food was not nearly as good this past visit. Diverse menu to suit most tastes. I found the food tasty but nothing outstanding. The prices didn't warrant the experience. I would still suggest you give it a try as the atmosphere and setting make up for the food.
Love this place! Great service team, great food and ample parking.
The service and food are 5 stars, but the restaurant itself makes me rate the Olive and Anchor 4 stars overall. The tables are a bit too crowded, it feels like you are dining with strangers. There is a bit of a fruit fly problem which was annoying and kind of gross. The washrooms need a bit of fixing up to match the prices on the menu.
A bit far but the food and environment are wonderful, nice for family gathering! Enjoyed the time there and the servers are really nice! Highly recommended!
Every single meal has been amazing for us and coupled with helpful, friendly service, makes it the ideal place for a relaxing evening! Try the Korean bibimbop hotpot, the seafood cioppino and the delicious salads. You won't be disappointed!
Ambience of this restaurant is nice and is right in the heart of Horseshoe Bay. The staff are usually quite friendly. The food is quite delicious for a bar/pub and I would consider it a little more upscale than your usual bar/pub. We’ve gotten the mussels several times and they are always cooked well and the flavour profile is spot on. The only thing I would say is some of their fried foods are on the oily side which might make you feel full or bloated quicker. Other than that, the food and service is great. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who’s visiting Horseshoe Bay.
Trolls used to be the main go to while waiting for the ferry, but over the years that place has gone downhill. The Olive and Anchor beside it is so much better! The menu selection is a little limited, but all the classics are there. Burgers are great as are the curries. Cozy place. Great staff
Super relaxing place for a date night. Relax and enjoy the great food and super friendly staff at Horse Shoe Bay Village Olive and Anchor
Went for take out and it was terrific. Batter was tasty and light and the yam fries were crisp and perfectly season. Order took 5 minutes on a Saturday at dinner time. Outside patio is a good spot to hitch up your bikes after a ride and enjoy a a bite.
Great food and amazing location with gorgeous views. Their lemonade was great too. And the table "bell system" thing was cool af. I always thought like a gentle light switch system could work but this device makes my idea archaic ????
Great food and drink in a quiet place. Fantastic views. Great service and friendly staff. Gorgeous town
Very cute restaurant that we stopped by for a quick bite while waiting for our ferry ride to the Sunshine Coast. The decor inside is unique and gives an old school ship feel! Nice clear barriers between each table which were clearly custom made for the restaurant. I love the alert button that is located on each table because it made ordering or getting the attention of a server easy. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious. I would have ordered more but because I'm going through an upper reflux episode, I opted for the clam chowder and a side of Caesar salad. The salad was a decent size for a side, and the clam chowder so good! My boyfriend ordered the bulgogi beef dog and a salad. The only thing that we would change are the hand dryers in the bathroom. They currently have a metal water catch bin underneath but the air from the hand dryer is so strong, it makes the old dirty collected water fly all over you and your once clean hands. Will definitely stop by again though the next time we take the ferry :)
Had a real nice meal. Ordered the oyster tempura burger and informed my server of my dairy and egg allergies... she took it very seriously and made multiple suggestions to make it good for me to eat! Fabulous service. Delicious food.
We came here with my In-laws. We all had something different to eat, and it was all absolutely delicious!!! Highly recommend the fish and Chips! Service was great! Would come back in a heartbeat!
Really nice restaurant!! This restaurant is a specialty of Horseshoebay. If you want to eat with someone you love or a precious guest, I recommend this restaurant.
My girlfriend and I stopped by the pickup window and ordered the fish and chips. The fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly, the fish was divine, and the tartar sauce was scrumptious. I can't wait to take my family here for dinner. The menu looks amazing. I peaked inside. Looks really nice.
Every time I have waited for the ferry to Nanaimo I would go to the Olive $ Anchor and it is a nice pub.
It's a ok good service. Too expensive. Not worth the money
We went for brunch and really enjoyed the food. My French toast was probably the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and so soft and creamy in the middle. The grilled cheese and soup was also a very delicious version of the comfort classic. The tomato soup was especially flavorful. I'd definitely eat here again.

We have been patrons of Olive & Anchor for years and are delighted that they continue to maintain superb food and service standards even through the pandemic. Our party of 5 all picked different apps/entrees so we nearly sampled the entire menu and every item was delicious and of the highest quality. Our server was earnest and friendly and even brought out a complimentary creme brûlée to help celebrate my husband’s birthday. The restaurant has been highly responsive to CV protocols with all servers wearing masks, physically distanced tables, QR menus, Purell stations, and plexiglass dividers. We hope Olive & Anchor continues to thrive and offer the community a safe and entirely enjoyable dining experience!
Nice! Great food, decent prices. Friendly staff, good service.
Came here for a quick takeout dinner. They took my order quickly and food came out pretty fast as well. Tuna tacos were great and the tuna salad was incredibly tasty. Fresh and bright with a satisfying texture - could crush one daily if I had the opportunity.
Friendly staff meets an authentic atmosphere coupled with top notch comfort food. We had 5 different things from the expansive menu, and all were phenomenal. Would highly recommend to any hungry traveler!!
I got a takeout of their clam chowder & coleslaw. I love these 2 dishes and have experienced them in a variety of spectrum. Olive & Annchor’s clam chowder is definitely not your traditional stereotypical one. The first ingredient they list is oyster but I barely tasted it. It looks like a good quality with variety of seafood and traces of herbs. The taste is neither here nor there and at $8 CAD for about 10 8z in a 12 oz cup with no crackers, not very satisfying. The coleslaw is one of the worst I’ve ever had - it had a strange taste that made me think that there were a trace of bleach or other cleaning product which wouldn’t be the most difficult blunder one could do in a restaurant. I walked around and asked around trying to decide where to eat on Horseshoe Bay and sorry so ended up picking them. May I just had a bad luck since other people seem to rave about their food. Nice location if you decide to dive in and looked like it was the best quality for good restaurant in the area so maybe my experience is one off. But I don’t want to taste cleaning products in my good again. Follow me on Instagram @the_half_glass for travel diary/photos/tips
The best restaurant in vancuver. Great seafood. Great service. And very reasonable prices. Try baked oysters)

Just happened to pop in today without reservations. We were accommodated quickly and the service was fabulous! One of us had the crispy chicken (gluten free! ) with sweet potato fries. The other had Chicken Tikka Masala. Both dishes were served piping hot and were delicious. I can't say enough about the amazing service and the attitude of the servers.
Surprisingly good food. Courteous and friendly service. Definitely not the cheapest place in Horseshoe Bay, but well worth the difference.
5 juumon points ~ I got burgers and fries, classic. It was so good I love the atmosphere inside the lighting is great and the burgers juicy, fries crispy, ???????????? if I’m ever back in horseshoe Bay I will come straight here for a great lunch or dinner depending on the time ???? Thank you for the kind service and great food. Have a good one!
Food is so nice here. One reason I can't give 5 stars is servers are sometimes too busy.
well, the food was really atrocious, I ordered pasta with seafood, but what I got in the end is difficult to describe, there were all the incompatible things possible-mushrooms+seafood+cheese. On top of that there was also some mushy grass with a flavour of floor detergent The dessert was a pear tart and even that one was spoilt, it was just burnt The service was horrendous as well, the waiter did not even ask us if we liked the food and it was funny to hear him saying 'good stuff!' (I underline it was an exclamation, not a question) when we got down to the dessert This place is definitely overrated, do not be tricked by google reviews
Oh wow does this place remind me of home. No matter what time of the year if I'm passing Horseshoe Bay do I need to stop in here!! Food is always great (for the Irish palette) and the service is top notch!
My partner and I ate here while waiting for the ferry and it did NOT disappoint. The food here was an absolute delight - clearly thoughtful of texture, flavour, and even temperature. This chef knows how to fry things in such a fresh way! The salmon entree is highly recommended and this is a perfect spot for a few cocktails with outdoor seating. Drawback: I do wish the servers wore masks or were more mindful of distancing. It doesn't appear as though they have made any staff protocol changes for COVID-19 except for sanitizer at the door.
I like the view and the clamchadwer, service is slow and below normal.
WOW.... we have been on a 4 week road trip which included a weeks cruise, and the tuna salad was by far the nicest meal I’ve had during my time in BC and Alaska! High Praise Indeed!
Enjoyed a truly special dinner here recently. The Seafood Cioppino was excellent and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the Fresh BC Manilla Clams. Both were gluten free and absolutely delicious. Servers were obviously working as a team, and the entire experience was 5 star +
Went here on Friday, August 8. Mediocre food, lousy menu selection, and a manager that was clearly new or just bad at his job. Used to go here when it was a pub, a nice spot to sit and have a burger and a beer while waiting for a ferry or a ride. After the changeover, the only thing that has gone up is the prices, everything else has gone down. For $15, I expect a burger I can hold with two hands, and a pile of fries. Not a slider and a small cup of fries that were clearly cut by McCain. The server we had was good, but she didn't have a lot to work with. And we got water with our overpriced beer - seriously you can't get a water filter? The tiny lemon wedges do NOT disguise the cistern taste in a water glass. And the icing on the cake here - we were in the middle of our meal and the manager hauls all the servers into a little meeting on the floor, in front of customers, and starts ranting on about how they need to do this and they shouldn't do that. This went on for a good ten minutes, while about half the place was full, and in full view and earshot of every customer in the place. VERY unprofessional. We won't be back to this place, and without a severe overhaul of the menu, pricing, and procedures - I don't think we'll have to wait long for it to change to a new owner.
This is the 2nd time I've eaten at Olive and Anchor. The food is always so delicious! Everything! Tonight our waitor was so friendly and also very on top of making sure we always had everything we needed. We were also impressed that he was able to memorize all our orders without having to write anything down! (there was 6 of us!). I don't live in West Van but will happily drive over the bridge to eat here (hopefully soon!)
This is my favourite place for a family and friends meeting. I have been coming here for more than 4 years now and the food is always excellent with excellent customer service as well as the atmosphere!
Lovely fish and chips! Nice little patio in the back.
Service
Delicious food, tuna salad is a personal favourite! I always love going here when in HSB. The service is good and ambiance inside is classic and different. Drinks are ok !
Tempura battered oyster burger was delicious. Might suggest to ask for the sauce on the side, just a tab but too saucy. Other than that amazing vibes, great staff, and delicious food
This is a lovely place to go regardless of if you are waiting for a ferry or are simply in the area. With great food and excellent service, it's a no brainer if you are around.
Good experience here and enjoyed the food and drinks. Our group enjoyed the bulgogi dog, house salad, and burger. However the back patio is completely covered with a plastic setup, so if you can get a seat in the front I would more so recommend!
I ordered the cod and chips and got coleslaw on the side yesterday. After a couple of bites of the coleslaw, I realized there was something off about it. I think it was probably expired. I came home with symptoms of what seems to be food poisoning. Extremely disappointed, as I really enjoyed coming here. On top of that, I was treating a friend who was visiting out of town... Very disappointing.
Wish we had the opportunity to give more stars. My wife and I were craving some deep fried oysters and so we approached the take out window and asked if it was possible to just get 2 oysters (no bun, etc) . The two people standing at the window both said "no, that's not possible" Huh? So, wait... you can order an Oyster tempura burger for $18...but you can't get just the deep fried oysters?? We would have paid full price for the oysters, but unfortunately the employees were unwilling to offer this. We left without ordering anything. Lost business, Olive and Anchor ???? Management - train your staff accordingly. Empower your team to give ALL customers the best possible experience.
Contrary to other poor reveiwers this is better than average. Busy luncheon but only a 5 minute wait. Very good menu selection. Good service, and meal out in 10 min. Fish & chips filling & tasty. Would go back. Cheers.
10 out of 10. No big screen TVs, cozy fireplace, excellent food friendly staff - what else could you want? The bride says that was the best smoked salmon ever!
Best fish and chips I ever had. Serving was so fast. Two thumbs up!
We stopped here when our ferry trip went sideways and I was so pleased with the service. Me and my 6 month old son were treated so well it was amazing. Most places turn there nose up with babies but they were so accomodating. And of course the food was incredible! Will definitely be returning!
Such a great spot in Horseshoe Bay for a good meal and lovely ambiance. The food is good but not outstanding, hence why the four stars. I feel like with a little sprucing up of the menu they could really knock it out of the park! Salads are overpriced for what you get, but the flatbread is fantastic and so is the calamari.
Great spot in town for a bite. Surprised by the quality of the food and drinks. Our server went above and beyond for us (as we were running late for the ferry). Definitely recommend.
Cosy English Pub feeling. Friendly Personnel and good tasty food at a reasonable cost. Only negative is Limited Parking on the Street outside for those with Disabilities.
Must admit I don't do 5 stars often but today was an exceptionally good day for the Olive & Anchor. The buck a shuck oysters we're delicious, cold, fresh and firm. The Halibut and chip special was a delight to eat. Service was efficient and personable.
Decent food. Horrific servers. My girlfriend and I had never been here so we thought we would give it a try. Once we arrived we were told to wait 15 minutes as they were busy etc. They took down my number and called me back 5 minutes later, saying they had a booth for us. After returning, we were told they had given our booth to someone else. I was annoyed and questioned why this happened and eventually they accomodated us to a booth. We were accepted into their restaurant at 7:30pm and were not informed that they closed at 8pm ( on a saturday night ) until after we ordered our appetizer and drinks. As soon as we received our first drink and appetizer we were told that we had to order all of our food and drinks for the night all at once....and that the kitchen and bar was closing. We WOULD NOT HAVE COME TO THIS RESTAURANT HAD WE KNOWN WE HAD A HALF HOUR TO EAT AND DRINK. We were pestered by our server Alisia to order quickly, and she gave us attitude the whole time. After we ate our food quickly, i paid with cash and laid out 20 dollars over what was the expected total. Rather than being a polite server and asking me if i wanted change ( i did not ) she rudely said " Perfect !" and left with the money. Impolite and unprofessional and we will not return. Our server was entitled and not professional whatsoever.
Always amazing food & great service. Our go-to on the North Shore. Menu variety is awesome (stand back pub food!). Have tried most of the items and never disappointed.Hard to decide what to have!
Based on previous reviews we had high hopes for this place, but after the meal we just had we will never be back. Ordered the calamari to start and ended up sending it back. Rubbery to say the least. Next I ordered the oyster burger and my daughter the anchor burger. The menu says that the oyster burger contains 3 oysters, which it does, but they are stacked and battered in one big clump. I didn't know where the batter ended and they oysters began. They didn't taste overly fresh and were tough along the outside. My daughter's burger party was clearly a generic frozen beef patty and was overcooked and tough. I give this place 2 stars as our male server was great, the beer was good and the fries were decent. Very, VERY overpriced. Save your money and hit Trolls or C-Lovers instead.
Our group, two old and two young, had our first in-restaurant dining in a while after returning to Olive & Anchor. We shared Pork & Shrimp Gyoza and agreed these rated A+. KFC chicken wings were savoury without hot spice, but too sweet. The soy-sesame dressing on my fine Albacore tuna salad should be bottled and sold as takeout. Wife's tempura-battered cod was fresh and delicate—far superior to products served by some places where textures and tastes can be described as mush and aged grease. Our two young guests would have liked a wider selection of pasta but they enjoyed the shared dishes. Deserts were a major hit. They included Apricot Almond Brown Butter Tart, brandy-raisin bread pudding, and chocolate molten cake. All excellent. We have never been disappointed by food or service at Olive & Anchor.
I love this place. It just brings a smile to my face. The owners and staff are always so pleasant and helpful. I have had many menu items over the years. My very very favorite are the Oysters Rockerfeller. Compared to everywhere else that I have had these, the way that the Olive and Anchor prepare them are the very best!!!
Great food and service. parking out front and back (the parking that is really close to the restaurant in the back looks like staff parking but it's actually customer parking). Generally very busy however, so if you want a quiet night this isn't always your place. There's not one menu item I don't recommend, but I hold the hot stone Korean bibimbop highest on my list!
Visited on a weekend when a ferry was cancelled. Every restaurant in the village was packed and the staff at Olive & Anchor were fantastic and attentive even with the added rush. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Coffees and waters were always refilled. I was impressed.
We were actually really happy to find this little restaurant tucked away in the heart of the horseshoe Bay Village! We usually go to trolls while we are waiting for our ferry, but this time it was busy so we noticed this little restaurant, and we’re really glad we did! They have amazing food, really fast and efficient service, and the prices were on point! If you’re looking for a little more out of your dining experience, I recommend this place in a heartbeat. The Rockefeller oysters were especially delicious!
Dinner
This is a gem of a restaurant. Delicious comfort food, at its best! Also such a cozy environment, its a pure delight for our family.
We live locally and have never experienced any consistency in the food. I have gotten food that has made me and another in my party sick, I’ve had cauliflower served to me with mold on it, leather like burgers, seafood chowder that has little seafood and tastes like glue. Most of my friends who go there have had the same experiences. They have jacked up their prices so they are on a par with very high end restaurants and it is really not high end. It seems that the owners don’t care as most of their customers are transients- on and off the ferries and the place is almost always busy. We don’t go there any more. If you expect reliable, reasonabley priced food do not go there.
We showed up with two toddlers after the restaurant next door said there was a 1.30 hour waiting time to be served. Here you got the food in less than 15 minutes, great service, great food and very comprehensive waiters when children play with the cutlery on the tables around. They even had a box of toys. Overall a very pleasant experience and highly recommended.
Great restaurant. Sat on the patio. Had plexiglass between the tables and did not feel cramped at all. Super service and the food was great.
Great staff, great food spacious and socially distance eating areas. 10/10 would return. Fish and chips were crispy and moist. Prices are more than fair for what you get!! The Ceasars are a must try.
Great bimbimbap, excellent service and cozy ambience. A must visit place in Horseshoe bay
Absolutely fantastic! Every time I come here, it amazes me. Nothing on their menu will disappoint.
Service was great here! Had the linguine pescatore and it was super yummy. All the dishes I saw going to other tables all look really fresh and well plated. I would definitely come back here!
Love the food and the views at this great little spot in the bay. I go every chance I get. That is the one downside, however. They're never open. Everyone knows that food in Vancouver after 9 is a myth, but at Olive and Anchor the 8.30pm close seems just spiteful. They're not open Sundays. So pretty much scratch brunch (even though the brunch is amazing). And that morning food of Saturday legend? Not available any other day. At all. So basically in terms of how much this restaurant seems to want me to visit, I'd say it's 'not much'. But I wish it was more.
Came in early Saturday morning after a photoshoot and decided to stop by the area for brunch where we found this place. Walking into the restaurant we were surprised on how quaint and neat the interior was - it set out a good vibe accompanying the priceless view out to Horseshoe Bay. The brunch menu was pretty simple, and I think it was reflected in the quality of the food that we ordered. I had the West Coast Benny, which was served on what I believe to be a gluten-free croissant with some avocado and salmon which was an interesting mix to a traditional eggs Benedict. It was quite tasteful and came with a few slices of fruit that were so good that we had to order more on the side. Walking by this restaurant one would think the menu could be pricy but dishes are priced like a standard cafe which was very unexpected. The waitresses were great and kept checking in on us, not just asking how our food was but genuinely conversing with us. Overall the service and experience was really great.
Amazing deserts, fantastic service and great food. Will highly recommended this place.
We had a take out order yesterday since we brought our dog with us. We had cheese burger with fries and crispy chicken burger. They were excellent!! Fresh ingredients, juicy meat burger and the chicken burger was really crispy on the outside but tender/juicy inside. The fries were also excellent. 100% good restaurant quality burgers!
Three times we graced their doors to find within, great friendly service and awesome food. We were recognized by staff, and enjoyed their menu choices along with an excellent beer selection. A cozy fire in a corner awaits the early bird. We have found our special spot in Horseshoe Bay!
Meal type
Decent sized salads, my fish and chips were served warm instead of hot, limited food choices off the menu, not a lot of allergy free choices for our son.
Tasty food at great prices. We had takeout fish and chips, the fish taco, the cheese burger, and the seafood chowder. All were excellent though the fried fish could be a bit crispier. The cheeseburger was nicely charred, and the fish taco slightly spicy and very refreshing. The seafood chowder was rich and had lots of fish. Takeout was fast on a quiet night.
My family and I went to this restaurant for dinner while waiting for a ferry. We had take out fish and chips and tacos and we ate our dinner in the park across the street. The food was excellent as was the service ! I would go back again.
Dropped by here on our journey to Squamish. Very cozy spot and much friendly ????. I got the Linguine Pescatore and I am quite pleased with it!
Such a great restaurant! Service is super fast and all the staff are helpful and nice. I've never had food come out so quickly in a quality restaurant before, great job. Prices are on the high end but the food is really good. Also a lovely atmosphere, definitely recommend!
Enjoy their food, ambience and great service!
I always love coming to this restaurant. They have an imaginative menu, great quality and fast service, especially if you are catching a ferry! The Korean BeeBimBap is excellent and served in a piping hot cast iron pot. Cod tacos excellent too. They always have good soup
All the dishes we tried were delicious. Check the menu before deciding to visit to see the days specials and prices. The quantity of food was decent as well. We had fish and chips, chicken pot pie, it looks small but quite fulfilling, chicken tikka masala with rice and crab cake as appetizer.
Had cod and chips. Good sized portion, but the fish was bland, probably imported frozen fish????
The meal I had was exceptionally great. The asian gentlemen (Rick) is very caring for us. He made us feel very confortable and very easy to have a conversation with. The tuna salad I had was tasty and also extremely flavorful. The vibe in the restaurant is vintage and modern at the same time. I would recommend trying this amazing restaurant with your familly or whoever you are with, even by youself, the staff here is very polite and friendly. THANK YOU Olive and Anchor for making my day.
This place is a hidden gem. We were famished and on our way back to Vancouver. The restaurant faces the bay and is easy to find. Parking is a bit hard though. There is parking in the back but there is not a lot of space. So nab a street parking if possible. The reason why there isn’t pictures of food was because it was yummy! We had cioppino, bimbimbap, fish and chips, and Korean fried chicken. Fish and Chips was excellent. The batter was thin and crispy. It coated the fish perfectly. The fish itself was light and fluffy. Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) is authentic. It isn’t the gigantic American kind. All fried to a crisp then tossed into a sweet and spicy sauce and cashews. Would recommend. Bimbimbap was yummy. Especially this looked like a pub walking in. It was surprising. Not too spicy. There was a good variety of veggies and meat in the pot. The cioppino was probably the only thing I would not order again. Maybe because I am spoiled from the cioppino from SF. I had expected a mound of seafood and some sort of crab. But the seafood barely broke the surface of the soup. It is also the first time I had pasta cooked in the soup. I would have like to see fresh plump seafood, but then again, it may be a SF thing. Try it, but would not be my first pick again if you are used to big mounds of seafood. Comes with a side of bread that is very dippable in the broth. The servers were quick to order and clear plates off. Amicable as well. Definitely would go back if I am ever in the area again.
My family and I loved this place! The service was amazing and so was the food. We will definitely come back again.
We had takeout burgers to eat in the park while waiting for the ferry and they were superb. Juicy, crispy, well flavoured—best we’ve had in a long time.
Service
The food was amazing. Flavour of the starters and entrees was beautiful! The service was really great! They were courteous and helpful from walking in the door to the server knowing his stuff. Definitely recommend!
Very easy to book online. The Korean Jappa dog (goggie dog) was pretty tasty. I also like the take out selection that you can take home and store in the freezer to eat later in the week.
We arrived late for lunch, were looked after with the same courtesy and speed as if we had booked. The food was superb, the fire in the grate lovely and the ambience made us feel welcomed as though there was no one else there; although there were other there.
Attentive service and meals came out quickly!
Was incredibly delicious food just right sauce for all the dishes. And nice friendly serive. Highly recommend here.
Had an excellent lunch today with terrific service. All the safety protocols in place made us very comfortable and safe. Plan to make regular visits.
Visited one Friday at 6pm for dinner for 2. Very busy spot and quite noisy. Would go back with friends next time as feels more like a gathering place. The food was good as was the service. Very friendly staff.
The restaurant was not busy at all. No wonder why. The host is extremely rude. Without a smile on the face he told me that I can't take my Starbucks cup inside and walked away. The nice way would be to suggest the client where you can leave a cup.
Service, food, drinks and atmosphere is very good & casual. I would return.
For during covid times, service was great and I felt safe enough to dine there. Also, they were very accommodating of allergies and the food was great! My bf was able to eat fish and chips for the first time in his life because they do not use eggs in their batter.
I have been here many times. This is one of the best restaurants on the North Shore situated in picturesque Horseshoe Bay. The ambience is low key and not fancy while the menu is refreshing and varied. Clearly, These chefs love cooking and the diners benefit.
Covid 19: Everyone in the front and back wore gloves and masks. They seem very organized and clean. Felt comfortable taking out here. Didn't use fork out of paranoia ???? Food: Freaking Amazing sums up how good their fish and chips is. I got two piece cod & fries. Opened the box and at first glance it seemed small but by the time I got to the end of it I was dying. Very filling! Highly recommend!
This restaurant has the best, freshly prepared food! I always make sure to plan my ferry trip to include time to eat here both directions. It is a treat! Also delicious gluten free options
Excellent food, service and location. Best requested "well done" fries ever! Korean stone bowl bimipap was delicious.
Good COVID protocols. Pleasant and attentive service, while still observing the protocols. Good food. We had a good time. Attention to details and explaining protocols were present throughout the experience, from phoning to reserve to leaving the restaurant. Courteous concern for an enjoyable experience from all the staff involved. Thank you.
Wow! What an experience!! My husband and I went here for our anniversary and it was amazing!! I have now tasted the best steamed clams I have ever had! Crazy balance of flavors, I literally wanted to drink the rest of the sauce when I was done the clams! The crème Brule was soooo heavenly and the service was spectacular! They even surprised us with this at the end of our meal... Thank you for a lovely evening Olive & Anchor!
A lovely meal! We came for fish and chips but that crispy chicken burger BLEW us away! The crunch of the outer crust with wonderfully moist chicken was unreal. The BC halibut was so nice and I really enjoyed the tartar sauce. Service was excellent, and I really appreciated the social distancing and sanitization stations throughout.
Nice restaurant with good selection of dishes. Excellent seafood options. Special thanks to Lliam our server Lliam.
Felt like we were rushed out and only one plant based option, a salad. It’s 2020 and the west coast is full of healthy plant based diners. Probably good option for big meat or fish eaters.
Fabulous! Great food, location and service. The regular menu is varied with options from small plates to full meals. The chowder is great and I am always been happy when I have chosen the daily soup. They also offer many daily specials, including deserts if you have enough room. Friendly and professional staff, relaxed atmosphere. 10/10
Good service, decent food, the caesars were soft, but in general, a decent experience. Maybe next time it'll be 5 stars. A couple of questions about our preferences from the waitress would have been good too. Very nice ambiance inside too and a nice little patio outside.
Our favourite local restaurant for both family and kid-free dinners. Great food, staff and service.
Descent place with good options for fish and chips. Taste was pretty good however I am used to more spices and found it a bit bland.
We have lunched and dined here many times. We are Horseshoe Bay residents and find this to be the best in the Bay. Rick is an excellent host and the food is fresh and well flavoured. Not the cheapest but the best. The restaurant is always busy and they are closed on Sunday to enjoy a day of rest.
Very Dissatisfied with quality control of portions, presentation and service! This was the first time my wife and I had been to this restaurant and it will be our last. We both ordered the seafood chowder. My wife's was loaded with pieces of fish, carrots and potatoes...my serving had a small amount of fish, one piece of carrot and no potatoes. When our waiter came by and asked us, "How is everything?", my wife indicated to him about the very obvious discrepancy in our chowders and he turned to her and flippantly said, "Ohhh, why don't you give him some of yours" and walked away!!! My opinion, he needed to return to the kitchen and get a new portion. We also asked for an additional piece of fish for our main dish and he said, "Uh, no, can not do that as they are all pre-portioned dishes"...????? To top everything off about our first experience here...When my wife asked for a straw for her drink, the waiter said, "Nope, don't have any. They're banned you know." He eventually did come by and "drop", on the table in front of my wife, a recyclable straw that he "found in the back". I think it's time this waiter gets re-trained!!!!
Its casual seafood at its best. Lunchtime or dinner time, checkout the chalkboard specials and you will love it. They have craft beers on tap, perfect. My group usually comes in on Wednesdays after a game of golf from Squamish. The place is in high demand at dinner time, either come early or come late. Expect to wait if you arrive between 7 and 8 pm. But its highly worth it. The staff is super nice and knowledgeable.
Wonderful food and service. Delightfully family friendly with kids books, highchairs, a change table (at least in the 'women's,' can't speak for the 'men's'), a kids menu, and endless patience with a toddler and parents. Delightful!
Beautiful location on Horseshoe Bay. Place looked kind of high end and had a nice crowd at dinner time. Sat at bar and ordered fish tacos and a cold local craft beer. DELICIOUS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Will return on my next trip to North Vancouver and try another entree. Check it out.
Been here several times for lunch, amazing food,my favorites are the Chicken burger,Calamari & the fish & chips!,best chicken burger I have ever had! delicious.
Dine in
I must say this place is truly far best seafood restaurant in Vancouver. Every single one of dishes hit my spot ( I was always disappointed at at least one dish when i order multiple dishes in other restaurants. ) and the bread pudding for which i did not take a photo was the best dessert even though i am not a fan of pudding thing. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes here again !
Worst place. 1 small piece of halibut is $25 and 2 pieces is $30, still the man who took the order did not tell us the price difference! If we knew, we would have chosen two pieces for better value. Also, the guy who took our order screwed up completely, even after I repeated my order multiple times. We paid over 100.00 for our meals without any drinks included! Rip off! The portions were also so small! Not sure if they are there only for profit or really there to serve people. My wife ordered a burger which was super small and thin. She was not told it would come without fries and without a drink. If the server told us this, we would have ordered fries with my wife’s meal and drinks with our meals! We were so thirsty by the end of our meal we had to go somewhere to purchase drinks.
Great food, friendly and professional staff, we go at least twice a month!
