In my experience, the more difficult it is to find a fish and chips shop, the better a fish and chips you shall get. This is further evidence to my theory, granny bons is a very tasty fish and chips, the fries are perfect and the fish breading is perfectly flavoured. Quick and cheap, especially if you pay by cash. Will definitely come here again.

Nothing about this place is particularly fantastic, but it will satisfy your fish & chips cravings if golden fish & chips across the street is closed. Decent, not amazing. The fries taste like they've been fried in a little bit of old oil, but YMMV

Owners are absolutely delightful. The decor has not been updated in nearly 4 decades---extremely sparse and drab. The fish was freshly fried but rather soggy (tasted fine). Fries were well-fried but a tad salty for my liking. Not bad just not my first choice in the area if I am getting fish and chips.

I've always had a great meal at Granny Bonn's. Unfortunately this time was not. The fish (2 piece haddock and fries) was good as always but the fries were made from the freezer and the coleslaw was not ready. PLEASE go back to making your fries from fresh as they were always good. I have since got back a few times as you have to give them a second chance. The fish&chips have been great everytime and happy to say the lady is as friendly as always.

I have not been going to this restaurant very long under about a year. But every time I do order either the daily special or something off the menu of the food is always fresh and the french fries are very crispy. I do wish that they did give you some more condiments instead of just one tartar and two packets of ketchup.

I am honestly appalled that they're still in business if what I got was typical. Went in at 12:30 - prime lunch hour. I ordered a halibut-n-chips for takeout. The halibut pieces are about 4" x 2" and very plainly cooked from frozen - can aftertaste it quite plainly. Got about a half-pound of fries with that - hard to mess those up, but half were quite hot with zero salt, and the other half were stone cold, hard, and saltier than McDonalds - at a guess they were probably sitting for a while under the huge heat lamps I saw through the window to the kitchen. The lady at the counter asked if I wanted anything for the fries - I asked for malt vinegar and she gave me one packet, I had to ask for more. On arriving home I discovered that tartar sauce is not included - I suppose I should have asked for that "for the fries". I would actually be less upset if I hadn't then been charged $29 for this mess! At that price point, I'd expect freshly prepared fish and tartar sauce, and much larger portions... or moderately larger portions with a coleslaw or pop included or something.

Ordered over the phone based on the menu showing on the yellowpages website among other....all of them showed a 2piece halibut and chips as 15.00 when my partner picked it up they charged him 24.95. I think they need to post an updated menu it is very deceiving. fish and chips are good but nothing special

Very disappointed with this place . I have been a regular customer for 20 years. Used to be amazing portion and not greasy. Fresh cut tasting fries and great experience . Very pricey ..Crack in restaurant wall , place looks out dated. not clean.. Now issues are Bathroom smells of dead rotted fish.,..... Tiny portions ( old oil used) fries taste days old not fresh cut now. Will not return ( not worth cost or trip to get . )

Hadn't been there in a while, used to be really good fish and chips (previous management). Now ,the service is kind of slow, food is not great, portions are really small. Expensive for what you get, I would prefer frozen fish from the supermarket to this . Too bad when things change.

Hours posted online and on the door state that this restaurant opens at 11am. At 11:10am on 20180630 the store was still dark - no sign on activity. This is our favourite F&C place but not today - went elsewhere.

I went there after hearing a lot about it. Ordered a haddock with fries. The fries were great, the fish however had a VERY crispy and crunchy crust. If it's something you like then you'll like it here. I had to keep mine covered to steam a bit till it had the texture I wanted.

Was reading the lowest rated reviews.. I have to disagree. I moved to waterloo and I wanted to support local and get some new fav restaurants. This is one of them. Food was amazing, priced accordingly. They literally ask you if you want any sauces and they will happily provide them. I bought the 2 PC haddock and it was so full she couldn't close the box. Great service , excellent food. My new favorite hole in the wall. And for anyone that doesn't like the way the place looks, everyone knows that places that look like that spend their money on the food rather than a paint job. Get over it lmao.

The fish and chips here were alright. They are a bit on the expensive side, and the actually fish and chips do not come with coleslaw. Taste-wise, it's fairly average. The batter is good, although occasionally you'll run into spots where it's a tad raw. It's not enough to say "stay away," but it's something to consider. The fries are not crispy, and more soft. Not squishy or wet, but just soft. We ended up ordering coleslaw on the side. Think KFC coleslaw but a bit more sour and less processed. The place also has tartar, vinegar, and ketchup on the side if you're a condiments kind of guy. What really pushes the place to four stars is the service. The server who managed our table was super nice and always smiling, which made the experience so much better. Overall, not the best fish and chips you'll eat, but I'd come here again.

Overall the fish was nice and crispy and the fries were delicious! I made the mistake of getting the double fish (the cod portions we're a lot bigger than the haddock my friend got) and it was far too much for me. The tartar sauce was also very good. I am only rating four stars because like other reviewers I did find everything too greasy for my liking and this place is very expensive (Do not trust any menus posted online! Their prices have doubled!). This is a kind of 'treat yourself' place!
