Let me describe this place in a sentence. Great quality, kind and helpful staff, great selection of items and such. I got my hamsters "Hercules" from here. He loves the food that the staff recommend and the have great quality items. Small animals are placed in fairly large cages.

The cashier was super friendly. She showed me all the sloth dog toys (our toddler loves sloths haha) we dont have any pets, but my daughter loves pet stores ???? I ended up buying a small lambchop squeak toy which is soft and fits in my purse great for anxiety and a grounding technique. My toddler enjoyed the dog beds, and checking out the doggie carseat and the dog display. I gotta say, the pink donut sleeper for dogs is adorbs. Would definitely go back. Not just for self, but for if we get a future pet.

This store was a bit out of the way for me, as I live on the other side of town but it was definitely worth the drive. Such a knowledgeable staff, they really took their time with me, gave me tips, and answered questions. Just an all around great experience! Can't wait to come back.

I came in to the store with three hyper kids under the age of 8 and the people working there did not get annoyed at them. They were very kind. When I was trying to talk to one of the workers my kids kept interrupting our conversation, a tonne! The woman was patient with me and helped me figure out what I needed in the end for my senior dog. The staff are so kind and very respectful to all the customers. All the small pets are in big cages and are very healthy. We have purchased 2 ferrets from Pets-West (Mithril and Lily) and they are very healthy. The employees always handle their ferrets, and that makes the ferrets more happy and social with humans. The employees train the ferrets not to bite as well. Pets-West is definitely my favourite pet store of all time!

Shop at Pets West if you want to support a local business with friendly staff who genuinely care and go the extra mile. Though the online store for Pets West makes it easy to place an order without having to call or visit in person, their excellent customer service is what truly sets them apart. When I placed my first order online, an item I had ordered was out of stock - Lisa called me minutes after I placed my order to let me know and offer alternative solutions. On delivery day, I asked the driver, Cameron, if they could bring my order up to my apartment door. After the fact, I realized that they had carried a very bulky, heavy order weighing over 60 pounds up a few flights of stairs for me without even hesitating or mentioning it - I only noticed when I brought it into my suite. I won’t ask them to do that again, but I am so appreciative of the kind and thoughtful customer service I have received from Pets West. Thank you!

It's a great store. We've adopted both of our cats from here and they were both rescues from around the island. The employees here really seem to care about the animals that they foster and put up for adoption. All the animals are treated well, in excellent health and it shows. This establishment is far superior to big box stores (like "Mr. pets" or petcetera or whatever it's called these days) because it's a smaller business with employees that care for animals. There's a solid food and treat selection for your pets, as well as great toys. Our cats love the real rabbit fur covered mice! I'd wholly recommend that you adopt your animals from here.

The staff at this pet store are amazing. I literally can't say enough about them, especially Marissa and Danielle. For the last 8 years my dog and I go in there twice a week to buy treats or visit. I got a phone call a few days before my dog's 14th birthday from Marissa asking if we could come in on the special day. When we went in that day we were greated with smiles and lots of happy Birthday Charlie Murphy! They then gave him a bag of his favourite treats and a birthday card signed by all of the staff. It was amazing. Marissa is always patient, gentle and so kind (she has purchased a bag of his favourite treats with her own money as he has sensitivities and can't have the ones the store gives out). She puts aside his treats when a shipment comes in so they are there for us when we go in. I have never asked her to do this, but from the one time they were sold out when I went in, she puts them aside. I don't think I've ever had this level of customer service. She is wonderful. Danielle always has a big smile and goes above and beyond to help. They keep us coming back all of the time.

Bought 3 consecutive Siamese fighter fish, realised they all had fin rot within days of getting them home. First one was 2 years ago. The most recent last week. Should have paid closer attention in the store each time, but so should the sellers who are supposed to be experts in the care of such. Not interested in the 14 day return policy....would much rather see these fish being better looked after in the first place. EDIT: It seems I'm unable to reply, to your reply, nor start a new post. How about that ? So I will here instead. Yes, the first Siamese fighter was purchased in 2o14, but the 2 that followed did not go through your system under my name, for whatever reason I didn't volunteer it upon paying. So, don't insinuate that I've been dishonest....because, I have no reason to be. Furthermore, to suggest that sickness came about the fish only after they left your store is again, not true. It is more likely that the disease was overlooked because you keep the fish confined within a space no bigger than a coffee cup, for your own convenience. Inspite of all that, I'm am however pleased to report that since housed within an appropriately sized and maintained aquarium, the fish's fins have mostly recovered.

Came in to buy a certain dog food and bought the last 12 cans, I asked the lady if it was going to be easy to stock as I didn’t want to start my dog on a food I couldn’t keep him on as he has severe IBD and I cannot easily switch his food. I was told they would order it in for me no problem and she mentioned the sale. Being that this food is about $50 a week for my dog I came in and asked to order it so it would be in for the sale. I was looked at like I was crazy for such a thing and told if they ordered things for everyone for the sale their entire stock room would be full. Ok no problem I need the food I’ll pay full price even though that was less then helpful. I explain that I’m running out quickly and need the food ASAP I only had about 7 days left. She goes to speak to someone and comes back to tell me she isn’t going to bother placing the order until after the sale anyways (not sure if that was to guarantee that it wouldn’t make it there in time? Regardless that was 8 days later and I had just finished explaining I need it right away). Obviously not caring about the urgency I said please just order the food I don’t care what it costs. It’s now Dec 16 (over 3 weeks later) and I’ve called twice to see if they even bothered placing the order, have been promised calls back and never received any. If you need a reliable place to get your dog food - this isn’t it.

I called today about having my rats pictures taken with Santa I don’t know if it was just me but the lady I was talking on the phone with seemed quite rude she told me days I could come in I wanted to ask if the pet pictures with Santa went on further than just that Sunday on December 1. I could barley get my sentence out as she would keep interrupting me and getting annoyed I really wanna resolve those issue but now I’m just uncomfortable talking to this lady now. According to her the staff can do no wrong even when they are rude, unhelpful, obstructive and incompetent. I wanted to give my business to an independent store but no more. Definitely one of my favourite pet stores to visit. I always love going in and never leave disappointed. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and I've never left unhappy. They helped me when I was struggling to find a harness, and helped me understand why my dog was misbehaving on walks. With the advice I received, my dog now rarely barks when we are walking. A complete turn around! Not only do they have a large variety of healthy food, adorable toys, and delicious (at least my dog thinks so) treats, they are extremely affordable which is always a plus. Overall, a wonderful store that I would reccomend to anyone.

Pets West management accepted my request to return a box of dog food ($200, unopened, within expiry date but no longer a product they carry) upon notice my pet had passed away. Let me just start by stating that if you are going to order any small animal do it through a different company. Anyway, a few weeks ago I decided that I wanted a hedgehog. After scouring through Kijiji/UsedVic and the SPCA I was unable to find one so I decided to order one through PetsWest. At first they were extremely helpful. They told me that they would order it and it would arrive either the Friday coming up (it was Wednesday at the time) or the next Friday. SO, the first Friday rolls around and I assume that it had not come in, so I wait. The next Friday rolls around and still nothing. So that following Monday I decide to venture into the store and find out what is going on. Turns out the had not even ordered it! I asked the lady who I was dealing with to call me when she was in. The next day I wake up to a voicemail from said lady who basically left a message on my phone making me feel like an idiot because she told me one thing and it ended up being their mistake. I don't know why i would "assume" it would come in on a certain date unless they told me it would come in on a certain date. Moral of the story is don't order pets through this company. The make you feel stupid and question your memory when really they are the ones that make the mistakes. As far as supplies and knowledge go they have a great selection and are very knowledgeable.
