We've got all the reviews of people who used the services of La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop (Fish Shop) in Victoria (Canada).
Now the business has a score of 4.4 stars over 5 and this score has been based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is really good, and it is based on a large number of scores, so we can conclude that the score is quite faithful. If there are many people who bothered to give their feddback when they are satisfied with the business, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to put scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Mexican restaurant.
We were visiting Victoria and stopped by during happy hour for tacos! They have a huge selection of tacos to choose from and they allow you to modify them. The service was amazing! Definitely recommend having tacos here if you're in Victoria!
From the get go, the place, the look the friendly staff and the awesome taste of all the food, 100% satisfied. Thank you Juan and all your staff; real authentic Mexican food !!! I know it, ‘cause I’m 100% Mexican.
The atmosphere is good but the prices are high and servings small. If you go in hungry and aim to leave full, prepare for an expensive meal. But to enjoy a drink and a snack, a great place !
Foods good. I found the tacos themselves quite greasy, but chips and guac were great. But when sitting at the bar and watching one of the cook's use a sweat towel as a plate cleaner.. that's what makes me give them less stars.
Extremely good tacos. Went off the recommendations on the menu and they were all great. Margaritas are on point to pair with your meal
Great, tasty, tortilla soup. This place recommended by the locals..
Busy taco place on Fort At with a loyal following. Always very good service and the food is prepared fresh but arrives quickly. We arrived just in time for Happy Hour, and ordered off that menu (for the most part). Guac and chips to start with flavorful rich smooth guac, and homemade (and very salty) chips. I had 4 tacos
Crazy good street tacos. Several vegan options. Service is super fast and craft beer flight. Welcome to Victoria taco row. Wednesday is 6 for 4 tacos.
There are quite a few taco shops in Victoria, and I was pleased to find something new and exciting here. I tried a number of tacos and each were superb! I love the side bar with all the extras so you can truly make each bite a bit different. Awesome staff, great ambiance, and fast!
A pleasant place to have a taste of taco in downtown Victoria. I ate Fish Baja, ???? hope to visit again.
Fantastic. Will be back asap.
Environment is poor with old woodbenches and old tables. They might have chosen this on purpose for their atmosphere, but I can tell you it was not very comfortable to sit at for any extended time. Plates look like plastic frisbees and utensils are one plastic fork. Water cups are available beside a faucet in the front serving warmish water with no ice. Cups were not very clean, had to go through 4 before I found one with minimal food left stuck to them. Overall it is very low cost to the restaurant even though food was expensive for what you get. Food taste was good, but quite greasy and in quite low quantity. I will not be going back there as there are many more restaurants with better quality and prices with comfortable seating.
Really quick service, line was sorta long but made up for the food time. The tacos where amazing! Try the Baja fish tacos
Very happy with this selection. The sauce on the fish burrito was very tasty. Sides of chips, salsa and quac were also very tasty and good sized. Pleasantly surprised with the availability of tap beer, tap margarita and bar margs. Good vegetarian and kid options as well.
I ordered food tonight from skip and am missing a burrito. I have called 4 times and not once has anyone answered. Skip was great gave me a refund right away ....but what am I supposed to eat ? I'd appreciate if someone would answer the phone
I'm Mexican. Corn tortilla tacos are not authentic tasting, the corn tortillas were a bit hard. Caters to a hipster white crowd. Mostly to people that have never been to Mexico. Cute decor though. And if you don't really like authentic Mexican food, then this place would be pretty good for you. Good service, lots of sauces that can be added. My friends got burritos with wheat tortillas and they liked the burritos.
I used to come here all the time when they first come to Victoria. In my opinion the first year was there best. After the renovation and complete stuff turn over the environment seems dull and dark. Not to mention the prices have gone sky high, I ordered three tacos, chips and guacamole. . It cost me $30!!!!! Not coming back.
We ordered the Baja cauliflower burritos via DoorDash. We noticed that the salsa that used to be free is now extra so we skipped that and ordered guacamole on the side -- also at an extra cost. I live how a burrito priced at $15 on the menu becomes a $25 burrito if you want it to taste good. The restaurant forgot the guacamole and when we called to complain, they said it's inside the burrito (it wasn't) and then told us to deal with DoorDash. DoorDash reimbursed us more than the value of the guacamole but the burritos were dry and disappointing and the prices have gone up so we won't be ordering from Taqueria again.
Excellent authentic tacos! Reminiscent of Pepe's in Puerto Vallarta in regards to taste and authenticity. Friendly staff, great selection and clean washrooms.
Really stellar tacos and great service. We didn’t want to wait for Tacofino across the street and this was an even better option! The tacos were fully loaded with meat and fish (definitely get an order of chips to scoop up the drips) and they were fresh and flavourful. Especially loved the Baja 6” taco (one of the best fish tacos we’ve ever had). Pricey but worth it. Well priced beer and superb service, even though food took a while we were well attended to and the staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely a place we would return to!
My husband and I stopped in for lunch and I got the Fish Baja tacos. My god the tacos were so good. I enjoyed them so much I was completely unaware of my surroundings while eating and lost all concept of time. My only critique is that they were a bit too greasy, but the flavour was outstanding.
we come all the way from up island 2-3 times a year and this is a must stop! Talk about the best tacos on the island! Damn!
Fantastic unassuming place. I tired 3 dif veg tacos and they were all amazing. Fast service, very casual eating.
Never disappointed. Always hit this place up when we come to the island! Delicious
Good tacos. Authentic corn tortillas that taste like the real thing. I got three for $12 and ate them all in about 9 seconds wishing I had another three but obviously not spending $24 dollars on tacos.
My party of four came in for tacos at 815 on a Friday night. I understand that this is only 15 minutes before closing, but they had one of the doors locked and the other door blocked with a high chair to discourage customers from coming in. When we did come in, the hostess told us that they were closing in 15 minutes, and that the high chair was there for a reason. Needless to say, we decided to go across the street for a delicious burrito at tacofino instead. If the closing time is arbitrary, please change it.
SERVICE: Excellent! They make you feel like their long lost friend. FOOD: Great food! Come here often and always have a good time. Also, they have a good selection of real spicey sauces. ACCESSIBILITY: Street level entrance with a standard 32 inch pull door with a interior rubberized door mat. Tables are high and seating is free standing. Wide throughway between tables and service area. Bathrooms in the back down short wide hallway. One bathroom is small with no assistance fixtures and the other bathroom is larger with an assistance rail. There is no gantry.
Great tacos and quick service. I had the refried beans and chipotle chicken tacos -- delish. Fresh and filling. I will definitely be back for another taco Wednesday (6 tacos for the price of 4 -- mix and match).
Dine in
Great food, great drinks. Truly what else could you ask for
Great burrito. Looking forward to trying more menu options.
Authentic Mexican food! The Tacofino next door is catered to a more local audience and has better taste for the vegetarian options. Not trying to compare or promote but just a personal opinion! Cheers. :)
Place was good and clean. But food was not the best. I order nachos and a yam and enfrijolada taco. First of all corn tortillas were cold, and when they are cold they break. Yam was extra oily, so wasn't as good as expected. Nachos were really good. The portions are very generous and I think the price is fair, but taste in food was really disappointed. But service was pretty good to.
Delicious food and incredibly kind staff members. I highly recommend getting the nachos if you’ve got a group, they’re nothing like I’ve ever tried before and we were blown away. Everything is delicious and they’re signature drinks were quite good too.
Nice service and all but tacos were pretty subpar. They were bland and lacked flavor. Go to tacofino across the street.
I think this place has my favorite tacos in town! Every one I've had was incredibly tasty and the decor inside is wonderful... Really feels like sitting in a cantina in Mexico!
Waited for over an hour for just two tacos. We had been seated and our orders were taken but the entire time everyone around us was being served. I asked two times about the food and all the kitchen and waitress said was that it was coming. People that had ordered before us were receiving their food. Pretty awful service considering the amount of staff they have, not the first time I've had this experience and I'm tired of giving this place second chances.
Fresh fish and tender beef tacos. Super fast service. Affordable. Tons of seating. Funky space.
I ordered a burrito bowl through DoorDash and found a small strip of plastic in my food. I called and informed the restaurant right away and they were not very helpful with rectifying the problem. Will not be ordering here again.
Amazing tacos, burritos and drinks. We had heard about this place but had just only started trying it out and will definitely be returning. The dining-in experience is so awesome. The specials are great as well. The food has such an authentic taste.
Some of the best mexican food you can get in Victoria. Prices are fair for the product but if you are a big eater expect to need more than the recommended four tacos which at $3 a taco can start to get pricey.
Horrible customer service. There was a mistake made on our order and they wouldn't fix it without charging us again. We frequent there often as we're downtown quite a bit, guess its a good thing there are better taco shops in Victoria!
What happened to this place??? When this place first opened here in Victoria, it was awesome! Truly authentic, great prices and service. Ever since the renovation, I felt the atmosphere was lost- I loved the Mexican cantina feel before! Then, the tacos changed. Then everything became way more expensive. They used to have 2,3 or 4 mini tacos for no more than $15.... now one baby taco is going for $8/ piece?! The flour tortillas tasted like cheap grocery store ones and the veggie taco was just kale and mushrooms and had no flavour. I remember there would be lineups out the door and even a taco deal day...today it was dead and I understand why. Today was my last time giving this place a shot, which is truly sad, as it was my favourite place to take friends when downtown Vic. Do yourself a favour and go across the street.
Fun atmosphere, yummy tacos! A bit pricey if you have an appetite.
Prices have gone up... quality has not. The tacos are ok but for the price you get very little. Also this place as others have said feels barren but I think that is part of "the look and style" as I have been to mexcio and see what they were trying to model it after. I'm sure my review won't deter the legion of hipsters that will line up to over pay for average tacos.
Delicious baja fish tacos; crispy fish, delicious tortilla and sauce was good. The torta was not really what i expected it to be, it was like a mini sub bun with some meat in it and a sauce to drizzle on ( may be their own twist on a torta?) . I also had a couple of birria tacos, the were good, but lacked flavor, the consomé was delicious but could use more cheese and wished the tortilla was dipped in the consomé and toasted after. Ordering was fast and great service. Overall a decent place to eat, a bit pricy but worth a try. I'd try it again.
Very nice place with an according ambient. Even the music was on point. Congrats to the chef on the tacos. My favorite one was the one with shrimp.
Great food, great service. Come for the 3-6 happy hour for the $5 margaritas and the incredible nachos.
Very tasty tacos and courteous staff. I get three or four different tacos, and that makes for a diverse plate of flavours and enough to fill me. Great sauces too, don't miss out on those. The decor is unique; it feels like summer inside even when it's raining outside.
All 4 types of small veggie tacos are gross.. the corn one is ok, the other 3 is not edible...
Cancelled our order 30 minutes after we ordered it. Great….
Delicious, fresh tacos. The Mole taco was amazing. Definitely reccomend.
Food was awesome great authentic Mexican food and the staff was very attentive and nice. Would recommend to friends and family =D
The resturant is nice and cozy, the taste is not the best as compare to other mexican resturants in town.
Took an age for the food to come. I ordered the soup which was lacking in flavor and very watery. Fish taco didn't taste very fresh. Disappointed as I'd heard good things about La Taqueria.
One of the best for Mexican food in the city. The food here is good and they have a happy hour for drink specials.
Amazing tacos, great staff, big menu, vegan options, indoor decor reminds me of Cozumel.
Went there with my boyfriend and we had an amazing meal. Tacos came out within 5 mins of ordering, they were hot and unbelievably delicious. The margaritas are a must have and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back!
Best tacos in town for sure! Authentic and delicious tacos and great local beer selection. Fun atmosphere lots of space.
Dad loves this place the best! 3 tacos and a tamarind Jarritos and he's a happy man!
Always reliable for some great tacos, burritos and Mexican flare. Plenty of options for both carnivores and herbivores. I like how the kitchen is intergraded into the dining area. Fun to see the actions. Fast and efficient ordering. Would give five stars except floor needs a bit more scrubbing... (Looking very sticky and stained which I don't think is just from the the same day - up to lunch time). And, the high table and chairs are cool and all but make it pretty impossible to come with our toddler girl. I wish couple of the tables are of regular height for elderlies/people with mobility issue /families with young kids.
Unfortunately taco Justice was closed Monday so we ordered from La Taqueria. Never again. The fish burrito I had tasted like someone dumped a cup of sugar in it. Yuk
Should never have stopped taking orders over the phone. It only suits you, not your customers’ convenience.
Staff were very helpful in choosing the perfect taco combination. The margarita was perfect. The tacos were unbelievably delicious! Can't wait to go back :)
Very quick service. Gluten free and vegan options. Fantastic flavors and variety of tacos. Baja Tacos come recommended. Salsa bar is squirt bottles. Lunch in the summer can get too hot, no air conditioning.
Honestly the best authentic tacos in town. Perfect price to boot. I make sure I stop by at least twice a month. Their Margheritas are awesome too.
Most authentic taco place in Victoria. Great vibes. Great staff. Great food!
Lots of seating and many taco choices (vegetarian or meat) and flour or taco shells. Price is a bit high compared to others but the tacos are for sure stuffed full. 4 tacos and a drink makes a meal ($28). There is happy hour from 3-6.
Tacos and burrito GET IN MA BELLY! Staff is always courteous, option to order in spanish. You will not regret this prime choice in the taco district.
It's the better food in Victoria the back kitchen and front are very nice people
Excellent tacos and excellent customer service. This is a less deep fried, just as good, contrast to Tacofino. La Taqueria's ingredients taste fresh and the products they put out look and taste delicious. I also like that they have a to go option as having one at later is nice.
This place takes me back to Mexico! Authentic tacos with bang on flavour. We stopped in randomly while running errands and had the birria, pastor and Baja tacos, all were delicious! We've made our own birria and pastor and these were on point. We'll be back!
Taco Wednesday is where it's at! Do not forget the salsa bar.
Food is good and about the same price as the mobile taco truck in town. The bonus is that you have a washroom, heating, protection from the elements and so on. My only disapointment is that the margaritas are standard tequila without the option of mezcal. (I think)
It used to be truly authentic mexican tacos. Now the corn tortillas are deep fried and no more salsas variety. The only uniqueness is the different taco dishes they serve - other than that is another Americanized taco place.
Good tacos. Too expensive. Mexican has the cheapest food cost and least waste if any restaurant types...price should reflect.
My daughter shared one of her favorite places with me. Excellent customer service. The food was fantastic. I will be back and I will bring friends ;)
Love this place. I moved here from Ontario where there was a Taco spot that was to die for. After searching for the spot that would fill the void, we found this spot. The experience is above and beyond! Go here as a local, or if you are visiting.
Definitely recommend getting at least 4 different tacos to try! All the different flavours and spices are amazing without being too much. Plenty of vegetarian options and extremely attentive staff. Love this place!
Outrageously great tacos/margs/happy hour *mwah*
This place oozes authenticity. The tacos are all soft shell and you can order 4 different (or the same) for a fixed price. I got the pork cheeks, daily special, and something else. The owner is super friendly, remembers your name, presents the tacos to you and explains which one is which. They have pop and beer and about 15 different tacos plus a daily special. Music is awesome. I'd say this is one of the trendiest places in Victoria
I ordered a pork and pineapple burrito. The food tasted really great, the service was ok but not amazing, and the atmosphere was funky and cool. My biggest complaint is my food took a while to be made and I was almost late back to work again.
Amazing food, with both authentic and unique takes on classic Mexican dishes. The authentic dishes are definitely the closest you can get to actually being in Mexico. The unique dishes are an amazing blend of traditional ingredients and imagination. Definitely a must go in Victoria.
Service
Best tacos in town! So many veggie and vegan options. Super helpful staff. I'll be back for sure!
Wow. Incredible food. Nachos were ????????????.
Called to place my order. Left me on hold for 7 minutes, still no response. And now when I’m calling back, ‘user busy’ Maybe they have enough and don’t need new customer lol
Very tasty and authentic. Would be nice if they had something like a mix and match price on say 12 or 15 tacos to encourage sharing and/or gluttony
So disappointed with the quality of food and service at this place. It is the least efficiently organized room and took almost half an hour to prepare 4 tacos to go. I wouldn’t have minded waiting 30 minutes if the food was even close to edible. The tacos were so greasy that the grease had pooled in the bottom of the container (a few cm of grease!) and caused tortillas to be so soggy and completely give out within just a few minutes... which ended up being a blessing in disguise since I couldn’t have eaten the greasy slop of meat even if I tried. Such a shame, this place was good when it first opened, but I will not be going back and don’t recommend that anyone does either
Fantastic tacos, burritos and drinks! Definitely a worthwhile stop for great food!
Great place for lunch! The soft tacos are delicious and the assortment of vegetarian and meat toppings will keep you coming back. If you like it hot the habanero sauce is amazing ????
Great selection of tacos and burritos with more authentic Mexican recipes; the fare isn't as americanized as some other taco restaurants.
Just amazing tacos, straight up. A wide variety of flavours and styles, all kept simple, fresh and flavourful. They also have killer mezcal margaritas.
Nice place and delicious food!! 10/10
Frustrating experience. I ordered a burrito as a bowl and asked for less rice and some cabbage or lettuce to be added in. Paid in advance and tipped 20 percent in advance. Just to have it come out being told I can’t add any vegetables in because it’s against company policy? Was literally a bowl of rice with meat and a giant pile of sautéed onions. Got a quality check on the food, told her I didn’t like it and she just said oh okay, that’s too bad and walked away. The food would have been good the customer experience was just poor.
The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly and they made the food quickly. Extra bonus the food was amazing!!!! I highly recommend giving this place a try.
Went here a few weeks ago for dinner and was so impressed! Had a lavender margarita (delicious!) and the breaded cauliflower tacos, and they were the bomb! I'm pretty particular about tacos and Latin American food, and this place served unique, tasty dishes in a funky atmosphere. Can't wait to go back, it's my new favorite place.
So good. Reasonable price. I like the rajas and I’ve always ordered whatever special they have and I’m not disappointed. Try their horchata to drink!
Really, really good food. Can't go wrong with any of the tacos. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Can be really busy during the lunch rush during the week.
I was never a fan of fish tacos until I tried their pescado. The carnitas and de cachete are also deliciously greasy. If you find the sauces and pickled jalapenos too spicy, cool down with a delicious Dos Equis or a Jarrito for all the designated drivers out there, but don't pronounce it wrong because they will correct you.
Amazing food, super friendly service and great atmosphere. If you want REAL Mexican tacos in Vic and haven't been here then you're seriously missing out!
Tasty tacos and great service!!
Service was quick and friendly. Food was marginal. Small portions without lots of flavor. Guacamole had to much lime in it and I prefer not to have tomatoes mixed in. Had way better tacos from Mexico up the coast into Washington and even Kona.
Have eaten here several times; however, recently we had take out and the prawn and yam tacos were absolutely tasteless!! Very disappointing!! Will not be back.
Great atmosphere and the food was fantastic. Only complaint was the tacos were bigger then my friend remembered so we ordered too much food.
Great place for authentic tacos! The pulled pork and cauliflower were the best. Tuna and fish tacos were also good.
the food is yum! a tad expensive -- happy hour tacos for $2 makes it more accessible :)
Great food, great staff. We came after not wanting to queue for the other taco place over the road and were very happy
Super good, I love the burritos.
Second time here! Tasty food. Lively atmosphere. A bit warm, but so is Mexico :) & I like open kitchens. Our server Isla was a great hostess.
Used to be best tacos in the city, now is pretty meh. The recent renos aren't inviting, especially on our gloomy west-coast days. The food has tragically gone way, way downhill. Recently I ordered my standard rajas con crema and two of the new bean tacos. One of the bean tacos came with the advertised cheese, and only one had the romaine lettuce. The rajas didn't seem to have the mozza. The habanero salsa at the condiment bar squirted water all over the one taco I tried it on, which was a bummer because the corn tortillas were super undercooked and already sort of slimey. I frequently make my own corn tortillas with a cast-iron press and am very aware of how long they should be cooked for. The ones we had today tasted like raw masa. It was also disappointing only getting the single tortilla instead of the doubles you used to serve. I guess the silver lining is my renewed enthusiasm for making my own tacos, so I can get my fix.
OUTSTANDING. If you are looking for authentic tacos this is your place. Their menu has a large variety and the is BEYOND your expectations. Definitely recommend.
delicious!!! Everything tasted amazing and it was hard to choose what to eat, everything sounded so good. The Victoria location was very welcoming and the interior was lovely. The staff were so friendly as well and it made for an awesome place to choose. Definitely recommend.
What a delicious and amazing spot to grab a latin bite. The vegetarian dishes were excellent. The staff was friendly and advised of great special. The dude with beard was friendly and made the experience even better. Top notch all around.
Great authentic Mexican food. Carnitas are to die for. Casual dining with amazing margaritas and inexpensive beers.
Everything from the food to the staff creates a great and surprisingly Mexican experience right downtown in Victoria. It has the look and feel of something you would find after a fantastic night out with your friends downtown in Mexico except that it's newer and cleaner than what you typically find there. Ironically, that's one of the only things that takes away from the experience LOL… But, if being too new and clean takes away from the feeling that you're "actually in Mexico" I don't think that's so bad. The tongue tacos (tacos de lengua) are definitely my favourite but everything I've eaten is great on this menu and they have lots of choices, from beef and pork to fish and several veggie choices. Definitely worth a try. Something for everyone.
Don't know why it's getting such great reviews: I had 4 tacos and was still hungry. Went to Tacofino right after for something delicious If it's busy, half your time will be spent in the lineup.
60 dollars for no napkins and got charged 4 dollars for what looks like a half ounce of salsa. Thanks!
The staff provided outstanding service and were very friendly. They were efficient in taking our orders, filling up waters, and checking up on us. The tacos were solid. My favourites are the carnitas and beef tongue The cocktails were delicious. Will definitely be back.
was my first time eating here and the staff really helped me out with some good first time options on the menu. food was fantastic definitely well be back! ????????
Great good but they close at 8 which is the weirdest time, they do let you stay past that but that seems rude. It's an order at the bar and then seat yourself type of spot. Worth if for the food but the hours really are so odd.
Went here tonight for the first time because I heard good things about it. I went with my wife, there was a few people ahead of us but the lineup moves quickly. Ordered the fish tacos and also ordered the AAA beef tacos it was excellent! Everything was well done, the corn tortillas were delicious and I really enjoyed it. I would gladly go back here everything is fresh and tasty and reasonably priced A+ plus plus plus
Service
Absolutely amazing food and service. I ordered food for a small office lunch, the value for such amazing quality food was spectacular and the customer service was amazing super friendly and helpful. Would absolute recommend to anyone!
My fave tacos on Victoria's Taco Row. Get a mezcal margarita and get crazy with the tacos. Highly recommended Al pastor, de cachete and the chicken mole.
Que padre! Muy rico as always. This is THEE place for tacos in Vic. When my fellow rural-Mexico-loving friend came to visit, I recommended La Taqueria for tacos and a great atmosphere (Tacofino for burritos, though ????) I like how I can get lengua y cachete aqui. Last night we had some chips and salsa, a handful of tacos, drank some pints ($3.75 for happy hour), took a burrito to go. The restaurant was fairly full for a snowy Monday and I liked the varied Latino music. In retrospect, I should have tipped 25% since the food was on point, the service was attentive, it's the holidays, and last night had chill Christmas party vibes to be. So here I am, writing a positive review to make up for it, when they obviously have tons of 5-star ratings already. Thanks to everyone working last night for a lovely experience! Al jefe/a la jefa, un día puedes intentar ofrecer tacos de cuitlacoche? Gracias.
GREAT FOOD, DRINKS, SERVICE, VIBE Highly recommend this restaurant for all your Mexican cravings. We never get tired of coming here, especially for their Happy Hour menu. My favourites are their nachos, atun taco, seafood burrito, and margaritas. Their ingredients (both for food and drink) are fresh and well-balanced. Their portions are just right and appropriately priced. The open kitchen in the centre of the restaurant adds to the energy of the place and it is obvious that there is a natural flow and respect among all staff. This place makes me happy! I hope you enjoy it as much as me and my friends do!
The food here is amazing! You can tell that a lot of care and love goes in to making it. Quality ingredients. Great service and atmosphere! Would highly recommend!
This place has tasteful decor and good snack size tacos. Probably the most authentic in town.
Used to love this place. Went for the first time in a year, and the quality was not the same. Soggy, salty tacos. Price has increased and seems quite steep for the food quality. Also was not given any napkins or cutlery, which made the experience with the sopping wet tacos even more difficult. Overall it felt rushed, and like everything was made without passion.
Incredible service! We had multiple staff members coming and going which meant we felt taken care of from start to finish. The food was delicious, I would highly recommend trying the nachos and the cocktails.
Delicious tacos. Great staff. Phenomenal drinks. This place has an awesome vibe and feels like you’re back in Mexico.
Just wanted to thank all the staff. What a great team! You guys are very welcoming and accommodating. It's my 50th Birthday and we wanted to come in for a quick bite to eat and a drink. Great service , very authentic food. Being mexican I was pretty excited when I saw the menu and I was not disappointed . I was very impressed with the food. Tristan makes the best Mezcal margaritas YUM ! Carnitas were amazing!!! And the young girl with blonde hair was such a great host! Unfortunately I didn' t catch your name, sorry. Thank you so much for the churros! Compliments to the Chef. Cheers!
The food was the right temperature, texture, flavour, and the atmosphere was comfortable
Little taste of Vancouver, fresh authentic and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options! Treat yourself to their hibiscus Martini
Great selection of authentic Mexican tacos and hands down the best soupa in Victoria!
Poor Customer Service - tried to order a lunch order for a meeting for 10 people. Spoke with someone on the phone to get details. Called back with no answer and called back 5 times, also sent an email with no return email. Decided to make reservations elsewhere. Unfortunate.
I was expecting a more authentic experience but enfrijolada was just a bean taco and it was super pricey... and hot inside! We were sweating. Service was meh. They were very rushed and it was a Sunday. I tried to speak spanish with the server and he responded in english. Not impressed.
Amazing menu, whether you want to drop in for a quick snack or come in for a big meal! Delicious, fast, with a great happy hour! There are many veg and vegan options and the food is so fresh and tasty. The people are friendly and the place is clean. Even when it's super busy! Thanks La Taqueria!
SO disappointing ???? I come here all the time and usually have such a great experience. However, today I was treated very differently by the blonde hostess. She was extremely rude to me, I didn't even get my order in before I was cut off and told that if I didn't want to wait for a seat then I would walk around and ask people to leave. Which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. I had no problem waiting, but I do have a problem with unprofessional and rude people working front of house. I will be telling my friends about my experience and I will not be returning. Do better for your paying customers. It's called CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Amazing food!! Authentic and tasty. Only quam is the margarita machine which only serves "slushy" versions of the drink up until a certain time during the day; in the evening time you can only get a watery version of it.
There food is one of the best thing I teasted and to say I think there are better then the taco places I have went to before . Love the food and is my number one place to go for a taco
Amazing food. Great server. he didnt ignore us for not drinking alcohol like most other places.
Great service and delicious margaritas. I love the tortilla soup and get it every time I go!
Gooood Burrito and Guacamole with Chips.. loved the food. Spacious and clean.. totally eye-grabber restaurant.. almost all passersby were curiously looking inside.. why 4 stars? Salsa and pickles are kept above the used plates rack. That was kinda unpleasant!! Rest was simply goooood.. :-)
Disappointing.Very small portion sizes.I ordered a prawn burrito bowl for $14.75 and there was no difference between the bowl and a Cabo taco which they sell for $8.00. The server was more interested in defending the portion sizes than fixing the problem. I can't live on excuses but I CAN walk a block to La Taquisa where I get great food and twice the portions for the same price. You're welcome!
One of my all time favourite taco restaurants. Not only is the food delicious, the service is some of the best. This is consistent as well from location to location - they know what they're doing here and they do it well!!
Best tacos in Victoria. The Cabo and Baja are my personal favs, but they now also have a battered cauliflower that is amazing. Can’t go wrong with the beef cheek or tongue (seriously so good!) Also make fantastic cocktails and the service is always amazing.
Wife and I were across the street, I wanted Vietnamese….she wanted Mexican. It was decided when we were walking and I saw the Vietnamese restaurant - and once we walked over there, she saw La Taqueria…her grumbling tummy always wins and I am a smart husband who knows it’s only a meal and then there is the rest of the night. Thanks La Taqueria for being there when my wife was craving Mexican. We hit happy hour which made my pocket book happy, enjoyed Fish and Pork tacos…and a huge plate of chips with Salsa and Guacamole….could t even eat it all…but we polished off the fresh Churros with dolce de Leche, om*g…. Go there. You will like it!!
Amazing fish tacos (Baja) - drinks are an added touch, awesome staff, great atmosphere! Will be coming back!
Great baja fish tacos, Fat Tug on tap. Blended margaritas on tap as well - normally I prefer on-the-rocks but these are really good!
Basically can't go wrong eating here food is delightful and there's good gluten free options
Have eaten here three times, always great food! Today I came for lunch, and the cashier and bartender told me they do not accept cash “because of covid”, no exceptions, and refused to sell me food. Literally turned away a paying customer... not something businesses can afford to do in these times. What a terrible idea on the owner’s part - one thing to discourage cash, but to outright refuse it? Absurd.
Wonderful tacos and sopes. Whenever I am in Victoria again I will return. Muy rico!
The most authentic Mexican food in Vancouver
Amazing tacos and generously sized compared to other places! Definitely recommend the seafood tacos.
Great tasting food, doesn't seem too expensive, but the prices add up quick. Edit: The second visit was not so great. As it was very busy, service was very slow and waiters seemed very busy. Not their fault, but management could hire a couple more staff for the evening rush.
The a Victoria location of this Vancouver-based chain features the same menu of small tacos, burritos, quesedillas, margaritas, and Mexican sodas as the Vancouver locations. The interior of this location is bright and casual, and feels very much like it would be at home closer to the equator. If you want a sampling of the different available meats, which include beef cheeks and tongue among more common fare, I recommend a mix of 4 tacos ($3 ea) for a good lunch-sized meal. The more expensive seafood tacos ($6/$7) are roughly twice the size of their meaty counterparts. There are also three vegan taco varieties and a fourth vegetarian option featuring cheese and sour cream ($2.50).
Dinner
Taco take-out. Simple and delicious. I especially liked the fish baja taco. The pork one was good as well.
good staff, great food, very reasonably priced! highly recommend the baja taco would come back to try churros and other taco flavours
Trying it for the first time and we Love it! The mole is perfect, as it is my favorite Mexican flavor. Clean, friendly and you can try many things in one meal. Will be a favorite go to for us!
Meal type
Good tacos. I highly recommend the Cabo, Fish Baja and Pastor. Service was lacking though.
Loved it. First time. The food is great and the staff are very friendly ????????❤
Really good tacos and nachos!
Excellent friendly service, fresh salsa made every day and excellent freshly cooked food in a unique way. My favourite taco place in BC (they have locations in Vancouver as well) and family owned. I would recommend any of it’s locations to anyone!
I love this place. Friendly, cheerful and amazing food. Plus margaritas that you can drink forever. I go here all the time and know I will have a good time, guaranteed.
This place has gone down hill at an alarming pace! It use to be a cool, authentic, mexican cantina vibe that served excellent cheap tacos. Now its a mexican fusion/bar that serves small tacos for $7 a piece?! Insanely overpriced. And the renovation to the place made it dark and dingy vibe, not welcoming at all. This place is experiencing a serious lack of identity
Came here on Taco Day and then ordered several items for take out. Was told to come back in 30 minutes and did so. Waited for another 15 minutes before clarifying and it turns out that order never even got made. They did put my order through first after the mistake which was appreciated. Though food has been consistently fairly good, I will not be coming back due to hit or miss service as this is not the first time I had subpar service.
Al pastor burrito had no taste of pork or pineapple, & when I reached the end of this very bland burrito, it tasted like a burnt rag, oh, i guess it wasn't all that bland! Save your time & go to Tacofino across the street.
Love these tacos! We ordered the nachos for sharing, and they too were amazing. Service was great, and even though decor is quaint, it's very clean. No wonder they are steadily growing... Keep up the good work!
Always amazing tacos, never disappoints! Highly recommend the Cachete and Baja!
getting three different tacos is a real experience since each one (of the three vegetarian kinds at least) paints a whole different picture, flavour-wise
Taqueria Pinche finds itself in the Bermuda Taco triangle of Victoria with Tacofino across the street and Taquisa half a block away. Each shop offers something tasty and unique and each has its shortcomings. Pinche is no exception. Let's start with the positives the room is large and airy with high exposed beam ceilings. At the centre of the room you will find the open kitchen and prep area. The team at Pinche are quick and efficient. They are great at guiding your choices and the food is prepared quickly and precisely. The menu has a great selection of options. Too many to go through here but let's just say that there are lots of choices whether you are craving tacos, burritos, soups or sides. The standouts were the carnitas, beef cheeks and tongue. The meats are clearly made with love and thought. The chips and guac are great. The tortilla chips are lightly seasoned in a great mexican spice. Here is what I don't like. I can tell that there is thought that has gone into the meats. I found my meal enjoyable but overall the meats were bland to me. A number of the tacos are topped with raw onion which I found to actually take away from the delicate flavours. It was just too o erpowering. I wanted the tacos to speak for themselves but I found them bland and they needed the salsas to give them the flavour and the zip. Speaking of the salsas, they are found at one of two stations at the front of the room in squeeze containers. So you have to go up to dress your taco. If you get back to your table and want more you have to go all the way back to retop. It's not a huge deal. But when the room is busy it's a bottle neck. The chips and guac was great but I think the $8 price tag for a small plate is steep. Let's talk about cleanliness. The room has the feel of a Mexican cantina which is cool, BUT the state of the floor is a bit too authentic. It's actually gross to the point that on our visit it looked like it handnt been cleaned in days. Not the end of the world but also not the best vibe to put forth especially when the tile work on the store is actually stunning. The verdict: the dishes are good, they taste good but need some refinement. The room needs a good cleaning, specifically the floors. In my opinion La Taquisa is still the bomb!
Love this place! cheap small tacos so you order more! way bigger place than the competition across the street, so a much better place for larger groups. Food is excellent and reasonable prices. Staff is super friendly and chatty. Take your time when coming here and enjoy yourself. :D
Best tacos I have had in Victoria. The meat is well cooked and the seasoning is spot on. My favorite is asada de Mexicana. Also the condiments cabbage in vinegar goes perfectly with the extra spicy tacos. Only downside it closes at 8:30pm. :( can't have those tacos if your out past your bed time.
Colleagues form work told me about this place so came last night with my family to give it a shot. It looked like a fun place but not really family friendly. The hostess suggested the bar but I put our name down for the 20 minutes for a table as the bar was inappropriate for kids. After a quick walk, we came back and was greeted by 2 different workers. They both proceeded to only talk to my husband and completely ignored me. Then gave our table to a group of young guys who came in after us without putting their names on the waitlist. Then in the time we were waiting for them to clear another table, I watched them seat 2 men who just walked in, ignoring the 2 women who came in before them... At this point, I dragged my family out and refuse to give them any of my money. It’s 2020, I can’t believe this blatant sexism still exists. They’ve lost my business for good.
It is the best Mexican restaurant of Victoria. The place is very cozy and the food takes me to my time in Mexico.
So good, we went back! Love the tacos and the guacamole is so yummy!
Fantastic food at a great price. I had 3 tacos ($8.50) and a burrito ($14) which were all served quickly and with great flavour. Highly recommend
Awesome service, really good Margarets and tacos. The Margarets had nice mix rim of spice and salt with a dried lime. Baja and Can't tacos very tasty, the pork taco had really nice pickled onions. All soo good.
3 different vegan taco options make for a good variety, but the size of portions is anemic. Good flavours, but a poor value if you are looking for a full sized meal.
Best tacos in town. Great staff. Vegetarian and vegan options. Amazing, keep it up!
Ordered 3 different tacos, all were delicious. Mole was my favorite!!! Highly recommend.
Ordered takeout, it was awful. Hair in food. Forgot one of my orders. Tacos pathetically small, one portion is not enough for a meal. Chips were weirdly soggy. Guacamole was pretty good. Never coming back.
Atmosphere here was very nice and the decoration and setup within does give a Latin feel to it. The menu is easy to understand and the food come out pretty fast. The portion sizes are good for a taco place. The fish taco options were my personal favorites.
Cabo and dessert were nice. Will definately go back for more.
Fantastic!!! The food is superiors quality and full of flavour. They also have some unique drinks such as the hibiscus iced tea which I did enjoy. Staff is knowledgeable of the menu and very friendly. The salsas are also incredible. Very affordable and a good amount of seating.
Great place for tacos. We’re lucky in Victoria to have 3 taco shops on the same corner. La Taqueria does tacos very well. And on taco Wednesday you get 6 tacos for the price of 4. I personally like the carnitas tacos with a nice local beer.
The Atun and Baja were excellent. Wasabi gave the seared tuna some kick. Hand-crafted on homemade tortillas. We loved these tasty tacos.
It's good food, like the margaritas are tasty. The current interior paint is horrible though, so dark. Impossible to see if they're open, not welcoming anymore. Looks like a dungeon, they're going to lose tons of business unless they brighten it up again. Maybe an open sign would help. Anyhow, back to the tacos, there are some really delicious options, I am particularly impressed with the veggie options, which are almost as good as the meat.
Try the nachos and save room for churros. Everything in between is amazing too! They even have the only tequila made in BC which is delicious! I highly recommend this location for the friendly and helpful staff. Service was quick and we felt that the restaurant is doing a great job of following covid-19 protocols and procedures.
Amazing food and drinks! The staff are authentic and passionate! They also have the only local tequila on the island!
Wow! Great place and reasonable prices. If you love tacos, this is the place to go
I just wanted to mention that this establishment is our favourite spot in the city. The food is always top notch and the entire menu has a fantastic selection with something delicious for everyone. The staff do an amazing job with consistency and quality so kudos to them! I do want to mention though... the cherry on the cake of coming here is Tristans amazing customer service! He is always so warm, friendly and attentive, we always look forward to seeing him when we come in. Thank you for everything!!
We enjoyed most of our food. Chips were unbelievably salty, orange in colour. When we paid, we were asked how we liked our meal. I told her the chips were too salty, she said they have heard that before and they are trying to "mitigate" it. I repeated (after realising we weren't taken seriously or going to get the item comped) they were way too salty and we didn't eat them and her demeaner CHANGED and honestly made me upset which I was not thinking would ever happen in such a unique restaurant. It got super awkward when the machine didn't work the first time. Embarrassing. Take your customer's concerns seriously, we ate all our burritos and left most chips and salsa on the table. This should have been a solid 4 to 4.5.
Taco's are tasty although small and somewhat pricey. I recommend the tacos if you're wanting a snack, not a great option if your appetite is ravenous! However, on tap margaritas are delish! Down right dangerous ????
The service and attention was terrible, I took my family because I knew it was a good place to eat, now that they changed they removed good things. The tacos were cold, Terrible experience.
Awesome food, drinks, and staff! But please, get thermostat control for guests AND for staff! A little chilly during the winter months.
Lots of choices of authentic tacos. Would probably be better if they were served hotter though. Corn chips were nice and fresh.
Another great taco stand but here they make them with small dollar size tortillas. Got 4 for $12 and they hit the spot. Definitely worth a try if you are up for some tacos in Victoria.
Whoever this Juan fellow is obviously causes the staff grief. He wasn't checking for ID and then served an underaged minor because they were “friends”. The young female server questioned this and she got reemed out within earshot of customers. I feel bad for the staff, good luck with number Juan. The young woman serving us was doing her best, and was correct in requesting an ID check. That guy was disgusting too her without using all his more “colourful” words. Apparently he’s homophobic too because he couldn’t get away from my partner and I fast enough. Too bad because the food was tasty until that guy made everyone want to leave. We found the young woman outside crying as we left, apparently that was his way of talking nicely to her on a daily basis. ???? yuck.
Next level stuff here. Authentic AF. Great variety and selection. The mezcal margarita is a must! Love their pastor.
I waited quite awhile before I first tried out La Taqueria, but I was not expecting it to be so tasty. I arrived around 3pm on a Tuesday and there was no line to soasp of. The employees were extremely helpful in letting me know that there were a few things on the menu not available immediately or at all which helped make my decision making process much more streamlined. I ordered the beef cheeks, pork carnitas and the chicken tinga. All three came together on the same plate but my server pointed out to me exactly which were which. The tortillas were delicious. Soft, but very slightly crispy. Of the three I think the beef cheeks were by far the stand out on the plate. The flavor in them was incredible and if I'm glad I want in the hungriest mood because I don't think I would have stopped had I had more. All the tacos were very simple with no excess on the plate, just tacos. I will definitely be returning someone soon to try out the seafood tacos.
Great atmosphere, the food is fantastic. I love the fact that it's all made in shop from scratch, including the tortillas. My main man Joey was super friendly and made this the only Mexican joint in town I will ever visit
Dine in
The shrimp tacos are fantastic as is the service
Look what $30 gets you. Definitely wouldn't suggest going there and I wont ever go back.
Just swinging by the island, these are the best tacos I've ever had on any island or mainland. Al pastor, carnitas, pescado, and mole are my favs, but there's not a bad taco in the joint. They're even Californian approved! Talk about tasty tacos wow! And an amazingly friendly staff with really fast service. And they recommend me with the best tacos they have! I actually ended up buying a house in Victoria just for these tacos. Thank you, La Taquería.
Great food if you want surprise glass is your food!
Good tacos, I had two fished tacos and felt good after; not super full but not hungry for more. Slightly overpriced for tacos but certainly delicious. I would come back again.
I was downtown the other day, feeling like I could go for some decent tacos, headed down Fort street on my way somewhere else, when I just happened to walk by La Taqueria. I had never been in there before, but it smelled good so I figured I'd give it a try. My first impressions of the place was good, bigger than it looked from outside. It's a large, open space with the entire kitchen in the center and tables arrayed around the edges. It reminded me of a bunch of picnic tables surrounding a food truck. I placed my order, a couple of Baja tacos, and waited at one of the tables. My food arrived quickly and let me tell you, those were some of the tastiest tacos I've ever had. I'll be going back often.
Every time I go back I am more and more disappointed. They've attempted to turn into a "proper restaurant" of some sort which has done them nothing except a disservice. The entire restaurant is dark now, the food has gone from 'meal-worthy' to a light snack (while the prices have not changed), and the service has somehow gone downhill on top of it all. This is not to say that the fault comes of the frontline staff but the restaurant itself. After returning many times in the hope that the tailspin would right itself, I think now it's wholly not worth going and will instead take my business to the equally convenient La Taquisa.
Menu is more pricey than Vancouver's, along with very poor service. 1. Wait staff didnt seem knowledgeable about their menu. Had to repeat myself 3 times before they got my order. 2. At an unbusy time, wait staff managed to forget to give our party of 6 any plates to eat with. 3. Kitchen has portioning issues by giving out twice as many tortillas as needed, yet a very meagre amount of salsa.
Probably the best tacos in town and some unique sodas to pair with them. Lots of varieties of tacos too. Highly recommend.
Amazing tacos and cool atmosphere. Would definitely recommend eating here if you are visiting Victoria. The beef cheek and beef tongue tacos are fantastic. Tender and juicy. The different hot sauces they have for you to try are great as well. Quick service and we had to order a second round cause everything was so good!
The food is so good that the staff don't need to be as nice as they are... but they are!! Super friendly people all! And, did I mention the food? Everything is so delicious and you get in and out without a big hit to the wallet - not easy to find in this town. The chips and guacamole are under-advertised and worth it for the lovers of the avocado!
3 stars only because the service. Food wasn't bad but the portions were hilariously small.
Authentic and tasty. Not cheap but reasonable prices given its location in downtown Victoria. Baja fish taco is one of my favorites...
Great tacos! I tried 3 types, the Calabacitas, Pollo con Mole and the Al Pastor tacos. Love them all! Lots of flavor, cooked well and fast. Their kitchen/food prep is in the center of the well decorated place and is VERY clean (huge A+). The cooks were constantly maintaining their work space. They were also very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!!
A bit pricey but excellent authentic Mexican cuisine ???? will come back when I feel homesick
Excellent menu and food. Very clean and full safety precautions. Very competent and caring staff. I lived in Mexico for years.
I had the pork burrito, and it was very tasty! I didn't eat in, but it looked like it had good atmosphere and they serve some good beers!
Did not receive the poblano aioli I ordered but I can't be upset about it because the food was so incredibly good! The nachos were out of this world and I also now know I love beef tongue. Highly recommend; try the beef tongue!
This place has a great atmosphere and excellent service. Their burritos are huge and will fill you up which is great for the price it'll cost you.
I could eat these tacos every day. Great drink selection. Service is friendly.
Fresh, tasty tacos. Definitely an element of fusion, Japanese flavor in the tuna tacos for example. Fast service.
Try the breakfast burrito. It's phenomenal
I love this place soo much. 10 stars if i could.
You get a decent sized portion for the price, not to mention the how many different choices they offer. Any time we crave burritos this is where we go. Would definitely recommend to friends!
Best tacos and margaritas I've had in a VERY long time.
The service was great and no one was around at 2pm so I got my food right away. I had the pineapple pork burrito and it tasted better than the comparable tacofino burrito, but it was more expensive (14 dollars versus 11).
Beef burrito was mediocre with limited ingredients and a steep price. Coleslaw and some beef in a wrap that tasted like it was from the grocery store for almost $16 before tax and tip, will not return. There are a lot of really good mexican restaurants in DT. This isnt one of them anymore.
Decent fare but maybe a bit over-priced... Unfortunately 'authentic' seems to only be found en Mexico - I've never found anything to remind me of it in Victoria at least.
Meal type
As it's name would suggest, this is some of the f'ing best Mexican food I've had. Incredibly fresh. Tastes that work so well together that I just wanted to eat more. All I can say, is if I was a local I would eat here at least once a week.
While it's a little like eating in a warehouse, the food tastes great, and they have a very interesting selection. Plus they're fast and very friendly. I find it far less cramped than the taco shop across the street. Well worth the wait if there is one. Come a little before noon to avoid the rush.
Food is nice, for a chain that microwaves premade menu items. Lovely place to sit, good beer selection. And the guy who runs it is a feast for the eyes.
Excellent food and wonderful friendly staff.
Came across this little gem today. Great place! Love the authentic food (great value for the money), & the music really adds to the ambiance. Will definitely be back.
It wasn't really my type of taco, but they had good selection of different tacos which was interesting. And the place is big enough to accomodate people during busy hours.
The taco's are the best feature on the menu in my opinion. Their mole is really yummy, perfectly balanced
Amazing food, but the vibe has completely changed since last year. Much preferred the line out the door, pay at the front style restaurant. Now you get seated and the staff pressure you to buy drinks etc. Still good food, but hope it changes back to the old version.
Do yourself a favour...go to Tacofino. Burrito was soggy and dripping. Flavours had not melded. Didn't feel good after eating (that Micky Ds type feeling).
Best taco place in town. Super fast service and great staff. And the Mezcal margaritas are delicious
Yummy vegetarian taco options. The margherita was lip-licking delicious. It has a bit of a diner setting; rough around the edges while still new... Not so cosy...a bit hipster, but that's the norm here ????
Not great tacos. meat is dry and somewhat bland. Corn tortillas taste stale.
Authentic food, delicious drinks, great service, in a cozy place. Incredible place for Mexican food in downtown Victoria.
Loved every bit of it, those Spanish menus add to the authenticity of the place, the food is great and so is the service
Food is always amazing here, no matter the branch you're in. But what's so special about this one, is it's amazing staff. Would definitely recommend (try the prawn/shrimp burrito!!)
Great food, excellent staff, great prices. If you like (real) tacos, come here!
This place just smells amazing! Our Baja burritos were also amazing! 10/10
Consitently one of the best lunch spots in Victoria. Their Wednesday 6 tacos for the price of 4 deal is unbeatable. A must visit.
Awesome food and margaritas! Staff are always super welcoming and pleasant.
CAREFUL - try one before you proceed. All filler and sauce, with little meat. Maybe how it's done in Mexico, but we are in Canada.
Always fast and friendly. Food is very good. The light and color of decor make you feel like you're somewhere else. Best Mezcal margaritas
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch visit at La Taqueria yesterday afternoon. The staff were hospitable, welcoming, and charismatic. The nachos were absolutely DELICIOUS. Omg. I’ll be back for those. The burritos were fantastic as well (my personal favourite is the fish burrito) and the prices were affordable. Love that you guys are a local business. Thank you for an excellent in-dining experience. ????
Great tacos for a good price. The owners are always super nice to my kids and have even offered horchata on the house.
Great Overpriced Tacos. Their taco's are great, but I find the portion sizes quite small for the price your paying. Flavours are great and a good beer selection, I will be back when they have their buy 4 get 6.
It’s in between Canadian-Mexican and authentic Canadian cuisine. Food is delicious, but all menus are a bit pricy. Their chef special taco is highly recommended.
This used to be my favorite taco place in Victoria due to their cheap, yummy tacos, friendly staff, and margueritas on tap. We went last night and were disappointed to see that prices have gone up on fish tacos and there are no longer any deals for buying 4 meat/veg tacos. The service was also slow and not very friendly. The biggest disappointment was no more margueritas on the menu. The tacos were still tasty, but with so many places to choose from, La Taqueria no longer stands out.
Oh boy this plave was great! I was convinced to order the quesadillas and was so glad i did. They fry the cheese crisp before putting it in tortilla! So good!
Great quality! Not overkill on the quantity of ingredients but very well balanced. Love the beef cheek taco! They serve a fine selection of local beer on tap, from Phillips, Driftwood, and Hoyne. Also some Mexican beer. Beautiful store space. The best service in terms of the taco competition around town.
Fantastic food, reasonable prices. The carnitas were incredibly delicious. Fast and easy to order, they have order ahead through both their website as well as an app. I will definitely eat here again.
Love happy hour here. 5 star tacos and Margs
Pretty consistent with the other locations in Vancouver and as always, the tacos are delicious. Service is great too! Highly recommended.
Taste fantastic but its microscopic proportions mean you'd easily have to spend at least 27$ before tax to not be hungry. Honestly, conservative estimate of 6 tacos or $40.50 before tax for an average dude to feel full. I still won't give the minimum rating because this truly adverse experience has done a lot to galvanize my spirit in the face of such profound and transcendent disappointment, the likes of which Zdzisław Beksiński's hell scapes could not hold a candle to.
This is an amazing spot! I visited three times in less than a week since discovering it! Great staff, great service, and mouthwatering food! Try as many tacos as you can! The churros are to live for!
Tasty tacos (the Lengua was awesome) and the place had a really fun vibe. Funky playlist from the 80’s too.
So many tasty tacos! I love that you buy them individually, so you can have exactly the amount you want. The beef cheeks & carnitas are amazing, but its all super good. Also, cheap drinks at happy hour! Fat tug on tap & mezcal margaritas ftw????
Very Very Bad!!! Gross - Quesadillia was gross paste between two burnt tortillias that were like card board! The chicken in the chicken taco was not palitable - gross smell . The beef taco was so tough and grissely u could not eat it! The chips were so salty - way way too salty like a salt lick GROSS! GROSS! Low standards - Yuk I cant imagine any one enjoying eating here! We ordered from dairy queen after throwing out their garbage
Expensive prices for tiny tacos. They were also very oily and wet when we received them. Can't recommend this one.
Great little Taco spot. The layout and interior has changed a number of times and I prefer it in the original form where it was more like a fast-food taco place. The menu has remained the same for some time but there have been incremental changes. Still one of my favourite taco places, despite it being located basically next to the competitors.
Would definitely not recommend going to this place !! Very displeased with the service, especially the servers were not just rude but inconsiderate and terrible at their job. The girl servers were truly appalling. The food was good no doubt but due to the quality of service, not a good experience in general. This is the only la taquería that I did not had good experience at . I really hope that they do improve their service after this review.
We ate quite a bit of good food while we were on Vancouver Island, and this was no exception. It wasn't quite a five-star experience, but that's just because I use the whole scale from 1 to 5; I'm sure plenty of people would have the same experience and hand out 5 stars here pretty happily. The food was reasonably price, the staff was friendly enough, it's a fun place to have a meal. The food could have been a little more impressive is all. It's definitely good, but it just felt like it could have been stepped up a bit more. I know of a place very similar to this near home that does thee exact same things a little better, or I'm sure they'd get five stars.
Have been to locations in Vancouver before and have been very happy. The food was very good. The 1 star rating is based on the service. Sat at the bar, took a while before anybody acknowledged that I was there, food came quickly after that. Was going to order another drink and food, but sat there with empty plates in front of me and and empty drink for at least 10 minutes. At that point it was just cleared. Felt totally ignored in a half empty restaurant well the manager sent servers off to have their break at the same time since it was quiet. Certainly wont be returning to this location
Amazing tacos with lots of gluten free, and even some vegan options! The owner is incredibly helpful and remembers everyone's name, and the margaritas are delicious! I highly recommend this place as one of Victoria's best eateries.
Some awesome tacos at happy hour. Carnitas, atun and cabo - all good. As takeout it wasn't hot and the bottom of the box was soggy, which affected the tacos (we only waited around 10 minutes after picking up to eating it). However, flavors were good. I'd go back again for happy hour, but probably not outside that.
Really good tacos can be found here. With the kitchen as the focal point in the space, there's more of a connection to the cooking, as it's happening right in front of you. The staff are friendly and attentive. However, A more recent redecoration has changed the atmosphere from a bright, fun space evoking a southern escape, to a dark, edgy, late-night oriented place - of which there are plenty downtown. A day-to-night lighting change would have been sufficient.
Great place to have tacos/beer/margaritas and read a nice used book.
I drove an hour to take my mother here as the last time I had been there was great food. I was so disappointed. The food was awful!!! I ordered tuna taco... came almost frozen with nothing but lettuce- not even cilantro and sauces/salsa as advertised. My mother’s food was even worse then mine. What went wrong?? How could there have been such a difference from the last time I was here?? Not even joking... the food was disgusting. Staff were receptive and friendly- apologized.
Delicious tacos, well priced and a cool shop. Definitely one of my favourite taco places in Canada. We were a fairly large group and tried a variety of different taco types, everyone enjoyed what they ordered and it all came out very quickly.
They just renovated the inside and it is much more formal and looks great! I had the Seafood burrito for lunch and compared to the local competitors, this one was a bit smaller, but the taste and flavours were so much better! Will have to go back and try their tacos and margaritas next!
Amazing tacos, don't be afraid of the cheeks, they're delicious! Much improved ambiance with the remodel, great place for a date
Delicious ???? I loved every bite. Simple, clean environment.
Excellent variety of tacos, great service and a decent amount of seating space. It seems crazy to have opened across from Tacofino, but I rate it higher personally.
The service here is terrible. I received a gift card and tried to use it but they don’t except orders over the phone which is understandable so they directed me to their website, so I tried to pay on their website using the gift card but there was no option. I called back and let them know and they said I would have to come in order and wait. With two young kids a 25 minute wait is more than an inconvenience. Safe to say I won’t be in any rush to be coming back
We went with a group and the hostesses did a great job accommodating us. The food was good, the service was good, we will be going back again! They had plenty of vegan choice for members of the group as well which was fantastic.
Amazing place for tacos. The taste is very authentic and flavourful. Highly recommended.
Great menu with a wide variety of options. Safe haven for vegans with easy adaptations to enjoy most of what the menu has to offer. Well adapted to COVID with staff at ease in the new world of dining. Order as you enter and grab a number and your order will be brought out. Self-serve water and licensed with a cocktail menu. A few Mexican beer offerings that you won’t find easily elsewhere. Located in the middle of Victoria’s best shops, stop here for a quick break and re-energize for more shopping.
The food here is incredible. Go at happy hour (3-6) and the menu is also amazing. Fresh, delicious tacos! I love the option to take a margarita to go, but they are very much over sweetened. Overall a great place though
Authentic joint with cheerful vibes. Everything my friends and I had was great, so I think it's safe to say that everything is worth a try.
Every time I’m in Victoria this place is a go to. The food quality and price is bang on. I’ve been to Mexico, the real Mexico not resorts and it’s very close to authentic. The cheek and tongue are my favourite!!
Great food and very staff who were helpful and friendly.
My all time favorite taco shop. As close to Mexico as you can get

Amazing pork burritos Lordy Lordy. I would’ve taken a picture but I ate it to quickly. Cool atmosphere awesome rectangular bar setup and bright colours, good for take out and sit down definitely enjoyed and would recommend.
Great tacos!!! I really like the cool tile in this place. Very open lots of seating. The staff are friendly. I've been here a few times sometimes it can be really busy at dinner time, but they are pretty quick to serve out the food once you have ordered. The music playing is really nice and sets a good atmosphere.
Gross soggy tacos... Go across the street to tacofino, less expensive for much better food and bigger portions.
There's something so satisfying about authentic Mexican food. There's so much variety, and every option on the menu makes you think "Oh, I should get that!" These are hallmarks of a great restaurant, and La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop definitely brings the heat I haven't had the opportunity to visit the location, so I can't speak on the place itself, but the food is excellent. Warm, toasted tortillas, perfectly cooked beef, chicken and pork, and a delicious selection of dishes. In my opinion, you can't beat the burritos at this place. Some of the best I've had; filling and made with wholesome ingredients! The only downfalls of La Taqueria Pinche are the side attractions, specifically the guacamole and churros. I find the guac a little bland, personally, and the churros aren't too impressive in serving size or seasoning. I would stick to the main dishes, they make up for it with their salsas! Unable to speak on the service, but ordering from this restaurant is an easy choice if you want to create a house of happy, satisfied eaters!
I am a Tacofino man through and through, until now. I had a burrito here at La Taqueria with pork and pineapple with chipotle mayo. It was delicious. Surprisingly delicious. It wasn’t over stuffed with rice and beans like other places often do, but rather, it was a perfect combination of everything. Try this place out. You won’t be sorry. I still love Tacofino, but will split my time between these places now ☺️✌???? ????
Extra fresh. Tacos are quite small, but big on flavour. Ordered two as a snack which held me over a couple hours. Service was fast. Great vibes.
Hands down my favourite place for tacos! The quality of the food is on point and the margaritas on tap are amazing!! The recent renovation provided extra seating and table service instead of ordering at the counter. I have been many times and will continue to go back!
Delicious! Great service, upbeat atmosphere. Try the rajas con crema! Definitely beware the lunchtime lineups, you'll be going up for more!
Happy hour deals are excellent value, very friendly staff, amazing Baja fish tacos, and really good guacamole. Margaritas taste great but lack booze.
Best tacos in the city! Fresh corn tortillas, and a well curated menu. The meat tacos are excellent, but do yourself a favour and add a couple of the vegetarian options to your taco selection! The Rajas con Crema is killer! There's a steady stream of people but service is quick, and staff at the front of house are more than happy to walk through the menu choices for customers
Amazing food, great service. Best taco place in Victoria.
Consistently good food. It takes them forever to process an order so it always makes for a long wait. This place could be a gem if they streamlined things.
The tacos are just delicious. The carnitas are especially great but make sure to grab some napkins because you will need them.
I would say 3.5 if I could go in between star ratings. I like the service and the speed of how the food comes up. I find the tacos are a bit greasy from the braised meats and lacking some flavour. I like how simple the presentation is, with just onions or cilantro or pickled onions. It tastes homemade which is nice but the flavours are a bit more subtle than I'd expect, especially the meats.
It might be that I came in in quite a busy day, but there was a long queue and just one staff member getting the orders and not even efficiently. She was checking her phone while taking my orders. To their credit the prices are competitive, but the burrito I ordered wasn't the best I have had in Victoria and it took a long while to arrive.
Delicious food with prompt service in a clean environment. Just a smidge more spendy than other _very_ nearby taco options. It's my third choice in a 1 block radius, but still a _great_ choice
The tacos were awesome and the service was really welcoming!! I will definitely bring my friends to try this place out :)
Staff are quick and tend to your needs. Simple menu. Good price. Delicious! Went alone and this was the perfect late night snack!
Love love love this place! Been going to each location for years. The staff are wonderful and so is the food! The music is fun and adds to an already excellent atmosphere. On this visit my boyfriend and I had the yam tacos (excellent veggie or vegan option), the guacamole (best in town, and the chips are fresh!) and the bean taco! Give it a try, but be warned, you’ll be hooked.
It is always disappointing when an outstanding restaurant goes on the cheaper side of things. La Taqueria used to be one of my favourite taco places in Victoria. The fish taco used to feature a fresh piece of fish. Although, my visit tonight left everyone at my table disappointed with the change of fish to what was of no better quality than a fish stick from Costco. My favourite shrimp taco used to be three fresh prawns, perfectly seasoned and cooked, now I am disappointed to see thin pre-breaded prawn sticks. Instead of leaving with the satisfaction that used to accompany a taco from La Taqueria, everyone at my table left with disappointment and heartburn. Try a taco from across the street at Taco Fino they know what fresh quality ingredients are.
Terrible. Bland. Very disappointing. Ordered a range of dishes.. seafood burrito, different meat and veg tacos and salad. The taco and salad meat was oily and did not taste authentic. The burrito was bland and full of rice. No one happy. Very disappointed as the reviews were good but I guess head chef was away.
Excellent fish tacos, best I've ever had!! The food here is absolutely delicious. A bit on the pricier side but quality is key and the flavours here are on point!! Thanks again :)
Ate here yesterday, ordered vegetarian tacos and was served chicken, which I didn’t realize until I was halfway through one. This was fine, aside from being disgusting to a vegetarian - people make mistakes. They handled it really poorly though - they tried to charge us for the chicken taco, and when we pointed out that we didn’t order it and had no intention of paying for it, the server gave us all kinds of attitude and VERY grudgingly took it off the bill. The food is ok, service was handled really poorly. I won’t be back.
Fish tacos are very good! Nice atmosphere with an open kitchen!
A convincing and delightful taste of Mexico City (or Puebla, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, or you name it) street food in Victoria. I don't usually like using the term "authentic" to describe food inspired in other regions -- "authentic" can hardly describe the mixture of influences that yields transplanted recipes and tastes -- but in this case, the term seems apt. La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop succeeds in modeling itself on a typical Mexican taqueria, down to the wire grate-covered florescent lights over each table. And the taco meat choice and preparations, including roasted lengua and chicken mole, are redolent of the cuisine of our continental cousins to the south. That said, Pinche Taco does most of Mexico one better, using organic, locally sourced meats and offering amazing vegetarian options (mushrooms, for instance, and more) in addition to the meat mainstays. The flavours are delicious, and the open kitchen makes the cooking and eating seem part of a delectable continuum.
Really 4 1/2 stars. Food is great, fresh, bright flavours. Love love love the baja cauli taco. Wish there was a little more care around the salsa station. I understand no cutlery but need to skip the plastic containers and go for glass ones. A spoon wouldn’t hurt - sometimes those delicious tacos are overflowing!!!
The food was very salty. Customer service wasn’t good. Over priced. Not going there.
Tacos are good here and the staff get thumbs up as well. WOW a local business that treats customers properly. I’ll keep giving you my money, good job!!!
OMG. These are some of the best tacos I've had, period. Every single one I tried was out of this world! The al pastor and the lengua were my favourites but pretty much you can't go wrong with any of them. I just wish they had a location in Calgary.
I stopped here on my way home from work today for a quick bite and was VERY impressed! I had and mushroom/kale taco and one of the chicken ones and they were amazing. The service was super quick and very friendly. Will definitely be back!
I used to love this place but stopped by today to find they completely remodeled. I honestly think it's a total wreck. The place used to be bright and fun and now looks dark, unwelcoming and cold. It used to be a grab your own at the front dealio how taco places should be, now it's a sit down restaurant. I'm sorry but going out for tacos shouldn't have to cost $50 + with a tip. I'll stick to tacofino and taquisa. 0/10 we walked out straight away.
Good happy hour deals but not so authentic. Tacos were oily and loaded with chipotle sauce. Not very authentic. The place down the street offer much better quality and price.
I was witness to the original location in Vancouver. And I’m pleased to say that this location is true to its roots of the original. Big space holds lots of diners Decent service Well prepared Traditional Taqueria menu Mexican and domestic beer Have the carnitas and the Atun. Fabulous in every way.
First time and it won't be my last I'm sure! I may have just discovered my new guilty pleasure!! God bless authentic Mexican food, specially in the snow!!
Best burritos Victoria has to offer. Just wish they'd let me add shrimp to the fish taco
This place was awesome! Tried a variety of tacos on their fresh corn tortillas, and each one had a unique and delicious flavour! Self serve salsa bar made it easy to sample them all. Be sure to add on a margarita! Staff were super friendly and helpful - would definitely recommend!
The most authentic tacos I've had in Victoria..... El Pastor are amazing and I'll be coming back here as long as they are serving up these bad boys...excellent food guy, well done ????
Nice place, best tacos I’ve ever had, buuuut it’s like 5+ bucks per taco. Everything around here is expensive tho...
WOW! best burrito I have ever had. Had the carnita burrito, and also had chips and guacamole. Dam that was worth it! love it, and highly recommend it
I love this place! Been coming here since they opened and is always delicious
Nice traditional Mexican feel, the Pollo Con Mole is delish, only gave 4 star as the portions for the chips and salsa could be better and proper cutlery available would be nice. I'd come back again ;-))
It was okay, guacamole was good. Al pastor taco is a small portion for $7 plus, also a bit dry flavour was good. Chips were way to salty and not corn. Not my number 1 taco place in town.
This place is excellent but if you want to fill yourself you're going to have order a lot of items because each taco is tiny.
