Incedible food, incredible staff. The best place since beginning ofmy trip from Maine to NS. Take time to take a reservation.
WOW! What an awesome meal!!! No more to say except that your restaurant is my new favourite restaurant......helluva drive for my husband now to take me out to dinner, being that we live in Portland, Ontario. BTW.....we strongly support your "well-mannered only" children policy. ;) Great job Chef & Staff.
Wonderful meal! Fresh and flavorful dining, clean and cozy atmosphere, with very friendly staff. The owner and chef comes around to the tables to greet people and check in on them. I eat vegetarian and there was a excellent curry option for me, but my parents both had salmon dishes that they raved about. Be sure to call for reservations.
Absolutely Great Place.. Great Owner!! Staff are the best!!
Outstanding food AND service!
The Chef MAKES the experience here! Food, of course, is phenomenal! However, the chef interacts with every single table on a personal, home-like level. He gave us extra crispy wontons and had a great chat with my husband about cooking! Great guy, great place!
Always the best! Chef Richie never let's you down
Finally got to eat at the pound had two appetizers the crab cakes and the mussels both delicious and grabbed a bite of my sister's salad again fantastic
(Translated) Amazing (Original) Espetacular
A great ending to a wonderful vacation. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly. The chef was very kind and funny. He came out of the kitchen a few times to check on us. Food was AMAZING!!!! If I ever make it back to Sydney, NS I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again!
Excellant fish, ribs, and appitierizers! This place is a 5 star restaurant!!
Awesome dining venue that you absolutely must experience!
Fantastic tasty food! Great service with helpful staff. Make a reservation and you must go there!
Fantastic dinner ! Everyone is very friendly the food is amazing and the Restaurant is very very clean ! We came from Ontario to eat here ????
Great atmosphere - the owner and staff really enjoy interacting with the customers, and the vibe enhances the incredible food they prepare. Super dining experience!
Easily the best meal my wife and I had in Sydney. All the other reviews are spot on. The food is fantastic. The price is very reasonable. And the portions we're very large. The chef and staff were extremely welcoming, friendly, and funny. I especially recommend the mussels, the maple ribs, and any of the fish entrees (I got the fish trio). The only issue I had was my wife told me that the ribs were the best she ever had. She used to think my ribs were best.... But seriously, this is a place you must go to. We plan on going back towards the end of our stay in Cape Beton.
My first visit To Sydney Nova Scotia, friends treated us to dinner it was “Simply Amazing” ????. 2 1/2 Weeks And I rate it my favorite restaurant in Sydney. Fresh food, amazing presentation, seasoned to perfection, atmosphere nestled on the ocean the best view, clean, comfortable and very friendly staff. I met the Chef Ricky. Bon appétit ???????????? ????????????
The food is good but the name can be misleading.
Amazing service, classic Maritimes polite manners, food was top notch. Chef was very knowledgeable with the dishes and worked very hard to make sure we had the best experience.
Excellent meal
A great place to stop for a tasty dinner. The owner is very friendly and was able to explain locally decorated piece hanging on the walls. This is worth the drive if you are close by.
We first visited lobster pound and Moore in their old location, on our trip to Nova Scotia last year (we are from Vancouver, BC). The food and service was fantastic, so when we decided to visit the Atlantic coast for the fall colors, we made sure to make another reservation! I really enjoyed the scallops - they were cooked perfectly and the citrus based sauce really complemented, and my partner's steak was Smokey and flavorful (he says this is the most delicious steak he has ever had). We shared the honey lemon cheese cake, it was a delightful balance of sweet honey and the slight saltiness of the cheese cake. Be aware this is a busy place so reservations are a must, especially before October. Also, this is not a family restaurant, so don't bring kids under 12 and expect to be accommodated. We have really enjoyed both our visits, and will continue to return anytime we are in Nova Scotia!
We had a lovely dinner in this quaint restaurant last night. We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It was busy and we had to wait 10 minutes past our reservation time. The chef himself, came out and gave us with a complimentary appetizer for our wait..our food was delicious We left there very pleased. ????
I simply can't say enough good things about this place. The food is always superb and the hospitality couldn't be better.
The chef/ owner is very friendly and an excellent cook. The food is amazing and plated nicely. The staff are very kind and willing to please.
best nearby the waters
Amazing meal , great staff and very happy kids who can't wait to go back again :)
Awsome food, great service, excellent view
We had such an awful experience at this restaurant. We arrived on a Thursday at 1.45pm, the restaurant was almost empty (just 1 table of two people). When we entered with our son, the waiter looked at him with an evil look and shouted at us, saying “no, go away, we are full. do you understand? We are full!! ”. We could not believe it. The other waitresses just looked in the opposite direction. We were voiceless to have such a bad welcoming. He could just have said nicely that it was a no kid policy restaurant rather than being so aggressive and disrespectful. People who came out of the restaurant told us that the service and food was not good, so they recommended us to go to Black spoon instead that is 2 minute walk away.
Absolutely incredible food, the owner comes out to speak to and serve each person, and genuinely cares about each dish. Best Dining experience of our honeymoon. 11 out of 10 stars
The care and attention to detail is meticulous. The food is amazing and the service is top notch.
The Best, we delayed our ferry return from Newfoundland to insure we could have dinner here before returning home.
Great food and great service . Leftovers carefully placed in a creative "swan". Great touch.
Best place I've dined at in Cape Breton!! Wow, wow, wow!! What an incredible restaurant! They say that success is never a how or a what, it's always a "who." Owner and chef, Richard, and his wife have created a place that not only serves incredible food, but delivers an amazing dining experience!! From the moment we were seated, you could feel that this place was different. Less like a fine dining restaurant and more like sitting at an intimate dinner in their living room. The warm decor and open kitchen allowed us to connect with staff and other guests to create a family atmosphere. As soon as he saw our 7 year-old boy, Richard came out to greet us, offering to create anything he wanted if he couldn't find anything on the menu that suited his taste. He said "send him to come see me if he doesn't see anything he likes." In the end, it was the most delicious 3 pound burger that won over our little guy. The rest of us ordered a variety of dishes from lobster ravioli, crab cakes, and seafood chowder to the lobster clubhouse, king crab dinner, and beer battered halibut. Everything was delicious and the portions beyond generous. We had so much food left over that we could have had two more meals! But we couldn't leave without having dessert, so we ordered the sticky fudge bread pudding with fresh made whipped cream and we finished the meal in heaven! Overall, by far the best dining experience we have had in Cape Breton. The best seafood chowder we have ever had. And one incredible evening with Richard entertaining us throughout the meal and going above and beyond in everything they did. Make reservations as this place is packed for good reason. If you're in Cape Breton, this place is a must for an amazing dining experience.
WOW
I had the lobster ravioli. It is the best pasta in the world! Great atmosphere!
The food is simply amazing. You must go!
Very nice staff. Excellent service from the chef to the servers. Food was excellent and we left very happy
Absolutely amazing chicken sandwich! Poutine is made with real curds and actual beef gravy. Yum!
Amazing! We managed to get a reservation last minute and it was a great experience. The chef is a chatty guy, and very generous with his time and food. He gave us extra frites, a taste of some local wildflower honey, and taught my sister how to deal with a lobster. A really lovely experience. It's a good location to take a walk around the piers after too!
Expensive but very nice
Amazing! Lobster ravioli was one of the best meals I have ever had.
Richard and his wife made up feel more than welcome. The portions are huge, the food we ate was cooked perfectly. The best meal we have had on our trip. Lots of options to choose from on there menu. Highly recommend. Thank you Richard for your accommodating style Cheers to many more years.
Amazing food and large portions for a very reasonable price! Owners and servers are very fun and friendly, you must go to this restaurant! Make reservations as it fills up fast!
Great food and great service.. surely one of the best places in NS
My favorite place on the Island for great food!
Awesome food. Love the lobster ravioli!
Outstanding!
Amazing and fresh seafood!
Pound the lobster!
Great food, great staff, great food! A cozy spot, but worth booking early. Expect ample(!) portions of excellent food.
Amazing food, fresh and friendly amazing stuffs. However, need to reservation first but the chef was friendly enough to let us in! One of the best meal of my life
Food was delicious and excellent service. There were five of us and no complaints. I had the halibut special and it was cooked perfectly as was the rice. I tasted the chicken pot pie and it too was amazing! I always try to order the special as it's usually the Chef's special creation (as recommended by a Chef) and at most restaurants something extraordinary. As delicious as the halibut was I found the meal / plate plain, served with carrots and rice. I expected the veg to be a little more elaborate and would have preferred the garlic mashed versus the rice but there are no substitutions. Certainly a minor disappointment and will go back next time I'm home. I would highly recommend this place wish I had time to return for lunch to try the chowder :) ensure you make reservations!
Best restaurant in North Sydney
Our last night in Sydney and this place hit the spot. Modern, contemporary elegantly designed restaurant. The service was really friendly and attentive with the server refilling my water numerous times as I was parched. Had the chowder and lobster spring rolls to start and fish and chips and scallops in citrus sauce mains. The chowder was amazing with huge chunks of fish and seafood in a rich cream broth with bits of celery, carrots, and potato. Lobster spring rolls were also delish. Fish and chips were stellar. The fish was light and sweet in a terrific way. Scallops were perfectly seared atop a citrus sauce with julienne veggies and a light fluffy rice. Sadly no room for the dessert. Great experience and the chef seemed to really love what he was doing. Definitely coming back here the next time I'm in Sydney.
We drove an hr and a half to have a lobster dinner before we flew home to Ontario. The restaurant wasn't open until 4p and was almost completely booked. They gave us a last minute seat at a beautiful antique table. The owner went through the menu with us, and advised us to only get 1 appetizer since they are massive! He cared that we tried a bit of the menu and brought us a few samples from potential specials to see what we thought - they were amazing! Before we had our meals he took time to show us some real lobster claws from gigantic monster size lobsters and helped us to take pictures of them. We ordered the mussels for our appetizer, then lobster ravioli and scallops. You have to share your plates because the food is too good to miss out on any! I am just so happy with our decision to go here because it really made our trip special. The best part, is that the restaurant was completely full and the owner treated everyone like a guest in his own home while cooking and going the extra mile for everyone. I will forever talk about this restaurant. Thank you for everything
Awesome food. Richie is the best!
Had the salmon plate......wow......so good
This is a candidate for Best Restaurant in Cape Breton because of its pleasant atmosphere, good food, and attentive, unobtrusive service--and despite its oddly restricted hours and truly dreadful beer selection. (Only one local craft beer; not a single IPA; several examples of industrial mediocrity.)
Awesome dining experience. The owner/head chef is a real character. Delicious food, great atmosphere. Be sure to book well in advance. I'll be back next time im in town for sure
Hurray! I have no idea why parents - whos little ones are having a "moment" - believe that I should somehow be happy with that. I have seen much of that and suggest that parents at LEAST take their screaming/crying/acting out child OUTSIDE so the rest of us can dine. It's called respect. Look it up. Great policy. Keep it up.
Omg the lobster club was amaaaaazing.
Great food. Awesome ambience.
Amazing food!
From the outside I don't think you'd give this place a second glace as it's a bit run down. Inside is beautiful and recently renovated. Service was friendly and nothing short of amazing. Like being served by good friends that you haven't seen in years. The construct and seasoning of the food you could tell was nothing less that masterful, but unfortunately my otherwise spot on haddock was overshadowed by an overload of salt and lobster overcooked but otherwise delicious. Wife's seared tuna was not just seared, but cooked and overcooked at that. I have a feeling that a line cook was having a bad day because you could see and taste the quality under those issues.
Definitely go here before you get on the ferry. Great spot! And fantastic hospitality! Went there for some food before our ferry to Argentia. Was welcomed in warmly. We grabbed the fish and chips, which were fantastic. And Richard, the owner, chatted with us and gave us great tips for things to do before the ferry departs, and things to do in St.John's.
Best food and service!
Good atmosphere and great food ! A must to try if you in North Sydney !
Excellent, such an unexpected gem in our small town, everything is delicious.
The best overall restaurant in Cape Breton, food is amazing, service is friendly and quick, decor is comfortable. Food rivals any restaurant I have eaten at from Halifax to NYC, London to Queensland. The chef is always open to say hi. Vist if you have the chance.
Great food and service
Amazing experience and amazing chef plus other staff. I had never ate a lobster before and the chef took time to show me how to take the lobster apart and get all of the meat. Whenever I am near by i will for sure be stopping in here! Just make sure to make a reservation as it is a small restaurant.
We went for dinner recently and we were totally blown away! Given the name and location I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were blown away. The food was delicious, service was impeccable, and totally non-pretentious. I am celiac, and when I told the server she was very quick with some suggestions, but shortly after, the chef came out to make sure that I felt confident about my ordering and had lots of suggestions and modifications to make sure I could try anything on the menu! We had the moule et frite to start, humungous portion and totally delicious (would have been plenty for an entrée). We had the seafood trio and the seafood laksa for entrées. The real standout of both dishes was the grilled seafood; it was easily the best I've had in any restaurant with great char lines and grilled flavour but nothing was overcooked. The emphasis on serving the best, freshest seafood is obvious. The curry base for the Laksa was super delicious. We had a crème brulé for dessert, which was also a huge portion, delicious and not too heavy. Went home with a treat from the chef which was a great surprise and something that feels like an extra touch from another time. A great place for a special dinner; we've spent a lot more at restaurants on the mainland that couldn't even hold a candle to this place. We will be back!
Great restaurant with friendly staff. Looking forward to coming back again!
It may appear to be a shack on the outside (relatively speaking), but it is fine dining (without pretence) on the inside. The lobster ravioli is delicious without being rich, the crab cakes unique, the halibut cooked to perfection, the menu extensive, and the restaurant crew fun to be around. Be aware the restaurant does not serve many, so make a reservation ... and they close Dec 21st and re-open for lovers on Valentines' Day. Bon Appétit!
Exceptional service and food. We ordered the chowder, lobster wontons, fish n chips and roast chicken dinner. Everything was so fresh and tasty. The servers made sure we were well looked after and the chef came and spoke to us and other diners making sure everyone was enjoying their dinner. A great end to our trip in Sydney. Make sure you make reservations.
The best sea food restaurant and the Chef would come personally to each table. And also willing to customize the orders. Price $$$
I live in America and have never been to your restaurant so it might seem odd that I would post a review... but after hearing the recent backlash i HAD to post My support. I want to commend your bravery and desire to maintain the adult family atmosphere of your restaurant by forbidding unruly or screaming children in the restaurant. i wish more restaurants had the loyalty to their customer base to make such a bold statement. i salute your bravery and am jealous of those who get to enjoy the fine food and atmosphere that you provide and PROTECT. Hold your ground.. because you're right! ...and any good parent knows you're right.
Great spot. Went here for chowder and haddoc and chips. Great meal. Nice fresh fish and the chowder is awesome. Give them a visit. A happy visitor from Toronto. Enjoy!
We were snubbed at the door, for having a 9 year old. Apparently this is only for guest 12 and above. Also I looked at the menu and they dont even serve lobster except as a lobster roll. They should really change their name not to include lobster or pound.
Excellent restaurant! Call for reservations, especially for dinner. We ate lunch here and Chef Moore boiled lobsters for us even though it wasn't on lunch menu! Had large salad with it and the maple dressing was devine!! Chef Moore prepared a special creme brulee for me because it was my birthday:) He also gave me a fried treat to take home and eat later. Everything was delicious. We will return the next time we in NS.
Waste of money and the chef is nothing but an arrogant prick.SAve your $100 and go else where
Always top notch and amazing!
You must make reservations as it is a smaller restaurant with limited seating however you wont be disappointed with the food. Seems a little noisey with the kitchen being open concept which made it difficult to hear my friend at times but other than that it was a great meal and I would go back.
If you are looking for Bar or fast type food then you will probably won't care about this classy joint, mostly all restaurants in Cape Breton are unhealthy fast foods. But if you are looking for a romantic place to take your wife or you are just visiting then book you're place asap. I love that the cook comes out and sometime will greet you.. Oh and they serve more then lobster :)
Best place to eat in Cape Breton! Amazing food and even better employees. Their menu has a touch of everything from seafood to traditional meals. I have eaten here consistently for the last 3 years and never had a negative experience! Make sure you book ahead of time because it’s quite a busy place. If you are only in Cape Breton for one day go here! They never disappoint.
Excellent service, experience and food! Can't wait to go back.
Delicious food. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Will be making many return visits.
I just have to commend you on your stance regarding children in your restaurant. Unless the restaurant is designed as a "family" restaurant, children should be seen and not heard. Some time ago my daughter and I were having lunch in what is termed a family restaurant, but our meal was spoiled by the screeching of a young child nearby. The parents did nothing about it. We complained to the management and when other patrons were leaving they stopped by our table to thank us. So we were not the only ones being disturbed. I do believe that for some establishments children under a certain age should be banned. Adults go out for a meal to have some peace and quiet; they do not want their meal spoiled by unruly and loud children. I am sorry that there was such a backlash about your stance and that you felt you needed to retract your prohibition. If I am ever in Sydney, Nova Scotia again, I will be sure to stop by your restaurant.
Absolutely amazing! Chef Rich knows his way with food. Fresh and flavourful the best seafood I’ve ever had. Always a favourite for my husband and myself.
nothing to be found at location on 17th may 2019
The meal is full of weight and the service is very nice.
amazing food and amazing hospitality!!
We had a wonderful evening at the lobster pound however our potatoes and vegetables were cold when our meal arrived, dessert was delicious , we would go back but would mention the cold food if it happened again, service was awesome This is constructive criticism, not a negative review
This is the Best Restaurant on Cape Breton Island. Friendly staff , fantastic food and warm , comfortable atmosphere. Recommend it to everyone I speak to.
This was an absolutely awesome meal. The food was delicious and the service was totally friendly. I'm glad we made a reservation and didn't miss out on this experience. Thank you!
The salad was amazing!
We (four of us) visited this restaurant on our way to Newfoundland in late July. We specifically went here to have a nice family dinner (we had traveled from Ontario separately) and because they had fresh lobster on the menu. I ordered the lobster, another ordered the fish trio and the last two ordered fish and chips. The service that we had was great up until the food came out. My lobster as well as the fish trio came out first, and to keep with the family dinner theme, we were waiting until the last of us got their fish and chips to start eating. After 5 minutes we started to pick at our food. After 10 more minutes we had to start actually eating. The last two of us waited AT LEAST 20-25 mins AFTER the rest of us to get their fish and chips. By the time they got their food, the first two meals that had come out were finished. The server apologized, but nothing was done to try and make it right. It was not a cheap dinner by any means, so a free dessert or some sort of effort made still would have made the restaurant their money. We were extremely disappointed and do not think we would return. I gave two stars because the food was good (when it eventually came out..)
Really deserve to try them if you are a lobster lover. Portion is great , good to sharing. I will defiantly come back here with my friends!
This place is absolutely Fantastic. Let's start with the food. Very large portion sizes that came out timely and nice and hot. I had the Butter chicken pot pie this was Fantastic with truly authentic taste if you know a good butter chicken. And the rest of the food is just amazing. It's not just the food though it's the experience! The staff are on top of everything they will laugh and joke with you and the chef and owner Richie comes out and talks to the guests and occasionally will bring a complimentary sampling of something from the kitchen that gives you that individualized catered feel. Even as I left he gave a sampling of curry pasta salad to take home and try. I highly recommend coming not just for the food but the experience, just make sure your hungry.
By far the best place to eat in Cape Breton. Food and service are absolutely amazing.
The food is always on point here.
I didnt eat here my phone just icked it up cause I drive by lol
Thankyou for the last minute reservation. It was the perfect way to end my aunts visit. We reconnected after 30 years and yous helped us end our visit on a perfect note .Food and service was excellent as always .❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely wonderful experience! The chowder was the best I've ever had and the staff was so friendly! Went for a late lunch around 2 and were welcomed and well looked after. The chef/owner came out to chat with us as we were from out of town and even brought me some live lobsters to look at! The quality of the food was outstanding. I got a bowl of the house seafood chowder and it was full of delicious fresh seafood. I found two whole lobster claws in my bowl! My boyfriend got the two piece fish and chips, which was a huge portion of fresh fish and perfectly crispy. The tartar sauce that came with the fish was delicious as well. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. If you are looking for a place with great atmosphere, staff, and fresh seafood, definitely go to the Lobster Pound and Moore!
Always the best food and service!
In my opinion Richard Moore prepares five star food. I go there for taste sensations. Thank you Richard. And the environment always feels so at ease.
There was so much lobster in the clubhouse sandwich it was offensive. And the seafood chowder was delicious.
Best food anywhere in Cape Breton
Absolutely amazing. We were looking for place to have lunch and found it on Yelp. Very good service. Owner very nice and staff very friendly. Food awesome and huge portions. Highly recommended.
By far, one of the best food establishments I have had the pleasure to eat. The food is superior to most I have experienced anywhere in Canada or the USA. Can't believe we are lucky enough to live just a few blocks away. The chef and his team are amazing, the staff is friendly and helpful. If you are ever on this beautiful island, this is a must-do!
Incredible place Everything is amazing and the service is awesome. Must book to go but it’s very much with it
Love dinning with family and friends here...Richie and Leslie are great hosts and I highly recommend there business...one of our islands best!
The absolute best on the island! For incredible food and staff!
My buddy and I stopped by the Lobster Pound to get some dinner before sailing to Newfoundland. We ordered the chowder and some steaks. The food (and beer) was so good we had to pass along our compliments to the chef. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation ahead of time.
My partner and I had the privilege of eating two meals at Lobster Pound and Moore in September, 2013 - oh! what meals we enjoyed! The food was very fresh and delicious (try the lobster wontons (wow), the seafood chowder, the lobster club sandwich), the service was great and, even though it was pouring rain on our second visit, the place was packed. Great place to enjoy seafood.
(Translated) Without a doubt a unique experience ... from entry to exit ... totally incredible !!! (Original) Sans aucun doute une expérience unique ...de l'entrée à la sortie...totalement incroyable !!!
Fantastic food and the chef was great!
(Translated) An unforgettable welcome! An exceptional meal! The best lobster I have eaten in my life! Make a reservation! (Original) Un accueil inoubliable! Un repas exceptionnel! Le meilleur homard que j'ai mangé de toute ma vie! Faites une réservation!
The food is amazing and service is always top notch. Definitely my favorite place to eat in Cape Breton.
Some of the best food I've ever eaten!
It was great my brother and i will be back thankyou for the great dinner
This is an exemplary place to eat. The chef and his wife know how to cook. I hope to eat there again.
Excellent service and variety of meals. Chef is one of the best on Cape Breton Island.
Great spot. Service was good food was great and reasonably priced. I would definitely work this place into my schedule whenever am in the area.
Just Excellent!
Restaurant has been great since the screaming kids have stopped. Keep up the good work.
Service was amazing and the food... omg!! Best French fries ever! Each meal was enough for 2. Would definitely recommend.
A must stop if you find yourself in beautiful North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Excellent service, fresh food and healthy sized portions! Good selection of seafood on the menu. Good COVID protocols, felt safe. Thank you, Chef!
Amazing food, service and ambiance! Highly recommend!
Amazing! Chef was so nice to my brother. Food was just the best. A must go if you’re down east.
My wife and I stopped in looking for a nice spot to have lunch, while on our honeymoon. We weren't disappointed food was great, the chef and staff are so friendly one of the most enjoyable lunches, I've had at any restaurant.
The food was excellent, the staff and Chef Rich were awesome. The lobster ravioli, lobster won tons and scallops were the best I've ever eaten! Thanks for a great evening!
The main course - lobster/shrimp club was wonderful - crab cakes were lovely! Service was extremely friendly - wish I lived in North Sydney!
Amazing! Staff were great! Food was just as you would want from a high end restaurant. I was lucky to sneak in without a reservation before it got really busy for dinner. Thank you!
I sadly haven't visited, "The Lobster Pound", since covet 19 closed the dining room. But I hope to visit the current, take out/ limited menu, set up soon!! The food here is an experience that you don't want to miss!! Your taste buds will sing with happiness!!! I can't wait to enjoy the food here again soon!! It's amazing that you have a 5 star chef in such a small town, which makes us extremely lucky!! You don't want to miss out! Make sure you make reservations when the dining room reopens!! It is a very special and popular place to eat and you don't want to miss out. Enjoy!
shame on you for your post and how you treat families with small children. Horrible.
The care and individual attention here is matched only by the superb food they serve. Make a reservation if you're in cape breton and you wont be disappointed. This restaurant should be a must for a date night, birthday celebration or a night on the town. One of the best meals I have ever eaten.
We have been here three times now and it is a favorite. The portions are tasty and ample ( sometimes even more!). The service is East Coast friendly and the owners are hands on and they go the extra mile. Next time we are in the Sydney area, we will return to the Lobster Pound and.Moore.
An amazing seafood dining experience!!
We were told the kids weren’t welcome and they were closed. The restaurant closes at 8 and we arrived at 720. Don’t visit this place if you have a family. We ended up going to the black spoon bistro at the suggestion of some locals.
Very good food. Wouldn't call it "kid friendly " in regards to it being a noisy, family - type restaurant, because it isn't and it was made clear in the past that noisy children weren't welcome. But if you want a quiet, cosy type meal of good food, consider this place. Make sure you reserve before you go.
Very nice , quaint, friendly staff, good food , reasonably priced.
wicked food
I think it is a great thIng you are doing for the seniors living in town preparing meals for them. I feel bad for seniors who do not live in town and would love a meal prepared for them. I know that the seniors are spread out and it would be hard to deliver to all the seniors in the rural areas. May I suggest you put
Don't come here unless you call ahead and make a reservation. Listing doesn't specify that you need a reservation. I drove 2 hours to get here for dinner and found a 'no bookings available' sign. Called and was told that I should have read the reviews because they say you need a resrvation.
Always AMAZING!
November 6 / 16 .Great food...and lots of it. Awesome service.....highly recommended. Thank you it was great.
Excellent food Off the beaten path!!! Best find in Nova Scotia. Just can’t say enough how great the food is and owners are wonderful as well. Make sure you try the lobster wontons
Had another great meal. Our guests from Vancouver and Regina enjoyed it very much!!!
Excellent service, excellent food, excellent staff the chef was awesome enough to give me a last min reservation an hour before they closed and then came out to tell me to take my time eating the food and enjoy it don't worry about closing time. On my way out he he gave me a free dessert. I recommend everyone check them out. I will definitely be back next time IAM in North Sydney.
Delicious food and warm and friendly staff! Definitely would visit from Philadelphia again!
Went here with my hubby because of it's excellent reputation and the lobster was absolutely the best I've ever tasted. Kuddos to the management for putting their foot down with parents who allow their kids to run wild in restaurants, even lil diners can learn to stay in their seat and eat nicely when they go out. Good manners start at home!
Arrived off the ferry at 7:15pm, asking to order take out. The server very curtly told us that we'd have to place the order before they open. When we asked if we could sit down to eat instead, she said no, we're full and not taking anyone else. There was maybe two or three tables in the restaurant. Never encountered a more unfriendly or unwelcoming establishment. Would not recommend to other travelers.
Spectacular food. Honestly it was the best meal I ever had. Great service too, can't wait to come back!
Big sign written in pen on a piece of paper on the front door an hour before closing saying fully booked. Website said nothing about having to make reservations.
Great food great prices, and lots of it
Today we enjoyed the MOST DELICIOUS FRESH FISH...cooked to PERFECTION. .. by a wonderful Chef....and owner....served with a special flare. Every bite we took was more delicious than the last....when your meal gets you feeling so satisfied you know you've come to the best place on the Island of Cape Breton to eat. Thank you for the service and thank you for not disappointing our taste buds.???? We will be telling our family and friends to make sure that they treat themselves to dining here.
The best food by far anywhere awsome place to visit
The best of the best !! So good !!!!!
All round Great Food I got nothing but Good things to say about this Awesome Restaurant... I Love it.. ????. ????
Found this gem on our way to Newfoundland. Fantastic seafood! Really friendly owners. Portions were incredible. Experience could not have been better!
The food was fantastic, the portions were large and the owners amazing!
Perfect meal. Reminder to self - need to find excuses to get here more often.
The modest exterior does not represent the superior food in the interior. The portions were generous, so my husband and I shared the mussels and fries appetizer, then the pan fried Arctic char. Both were excellent as well as all the other food I watched come out of the kitchen. The staff were friendly and helpful. The chef came out to regularly check if diners were happy and his enthusiasm for his food apparent. Make a reservation to avoid disappointment or come early. Don't miss this experience if you are in the area.
Any restaurant where I don't have to put up screaming kids because the kids' parents think everyone else should just deal with it is a great restaurant!
Awesome experience, the atmosphere was calm and food was fresh and our waiter Phil did a great job. Will return in the summer!
This restaurant is so amazing that it is truly an experience. The food is perfectly prepared, plated beautifully, and tastes amazing. The seafood chowder bowl is a meal on its own, after trying seafood chowders all around the coast I have to say this is easily the best chowder I have had. The fish trio was an amazing combination. Finally, the lobster pasta was absolutely delicious, served with a lobster claw and a stack of garlic bread. The staff are incredibly kind, ensuring you have everything you need, and have lots of interesting stories to share about the decorations. The restaurant sits right on the coast with a beautiful view, and gorgeous decorations throughout the restaurant. I cannot say enough about how fantastic this restaurant is.
Best meal of our trip! Massive portions of delicious, fresh seafood! Everything we ate was fantastic! True East Coast hospitality!!
Great food a but expensive but you are definatly getting what you pay for
It is a good restaurant but quality of food has gone down.
I have not been to this restaurant and never will. To allow self serving and pig headed parents to allow their children to disrupt other dinners dinning experience is appalling. Wake up parents and take responsibility for your children
Amazing food chef is awesome extremely friendly staff
Excellent chowder
Excellent restaurant! Make reservations otherwise you will never get to experience the best restaurant in Sydney. The food was plentiful. We had the 2 lbs lobster platter and bisque which did not disappoint! It was fantastic. Service was excellent. Chef (which we suspect is an owner) took the time to stop at our table and hostess which was the owner took the time out of her busy schedule to chat with us (the tourists)!! It was pleasant to see that patrons that came in without reservations were recommended to other nearby restaurants that could possibly accommodate them. That speaks volumes. Strongly recommend!!!
Fabulous food and service. Small and quaint with awesome atmosphere. Great value for the quality of food. Curry chicken was a huge serving. Ribs were fantastic and so was the steak. The crab dip appetizer was amazing. We are from Toronto and this restaurant is right up there with the top restaurants in Toronto. Husband and wife team and the rest of the staff, in total 5, had great rapport. Husband kept coming out of kitchen and talking to the customers. Will definitely go back and worth the drive to North Sydney. Be sure to make a reservation so not to miss out.
I would give this place ten stars or more if I could! I enjoyed every minute of this dining experience. The food is fresh, delicious and cooked perfectly. The portions are also very generous. The chef and servers are very friendly and hospitable. We're only in Cape Breton for a short time, but I'd be more than happy to come back again before we leave.
Loved it.
Love it and we keep coming back.
Had the Lobster Club - it was amazing. The owners are super friendly and the food is tasty. I am definitely coming back when I am in Cape Breton again.
(Translated) The Lobsterplatte is expensive and more side dishes than Lobster. That was the value for money nothing. 1 strtn for the view. (Original) Die Lobsterplatte ist teuer und mehr Beilagen als Lobster. Das war vom Preis-Leistungsverhältnus gar nichts. 1 Strtn für die Aussicht.
Overall good, service was great, food was good.
Best lobster chowder ! Have never had a meal here that wasn't superb
Absolutly fantastic...amazing friendly service......food was delicious....everyone was so nice...we will definitely be back.
Easily the best Seafood Chowder I’ve ever had, awesome staff.
Great atmosphere, and food to match.will definitely be returning when I'm in Town.
My wife and I went for a very pleasant supper. She had an excellent Lobster sandwich and I had a good roast chicken dinner.
Fantastic food with generous portions. Service was great. The lobster and mussles we're great. Would come back again when I'm in Cape Breton. This is probably the best restaurant in cape Breton for seafood!!
Food was a bit expensive but it was good and service was good!
Excellent! We are on the way to Newfoundland and stopped for the afternoon. Asked for a memorable place to eat from the locals. told to check the lobster pound. Made reservations with the chef Richard and what an experience. Food was the top of the world and the service excellent. Will make it back on the return trip. You will not be disappointed!
