We have all the feddbacks of real people like you who consume the services of Gentleman Jim's (Fish Shop) in the area of Summerside (Canada).
At present this firm receives a rating of 3.9 out of 5 and the score was based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is very good, and it is founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we can say that the evaluation is quite accurate. If people have bothered to give their review when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to give opinions when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop is included in the category of Family restaurant.
Somewhat good food. Some of the waitresses are rude. I only fancy their soda. Lol.
Had a small business luncheon... Had a small private room. Service from staff was very friendly and very prompt. Food was great!
Been here twice in one week. Food is delicious. Had numerous dishes: chicken alfredo, mussels, salmon, clam chowder, casserole...all tasty. The sauces are really creamy, if you like that kind of stuff. …
Well it's July at 1015 I just had one of the worse breakfast ever sponge saugage, rubber potatoes at least that's what they call them toast cold the butter didn't even melt on them one bit.. if I lived here I would never return here ever again, but one positive about this meal is it's over ! PEI is an amazing province and I would move here in a heart beat so if yr in Summerside PEI don't ever eat at Gentleman Jims on Granville Rd at least for breakfast
Amazing food very friendly staff they even offer us 2 free coffee
Friendly, fast service and very good home cooked meal.
The food got to the table quickly, but it was awful. The saddest excuse for a lobster roll that I've ever seen. The roll wasn't anywhere close to being even half full and what was in it consisted mainly of lettuce and tomatoes! There was one actual piece of lobster that I could see, the rest could have been canned mystery meat. Soooo disappointed to come all the way to PEI and be served such a dismal failure. When wait staff finally made it back to the table to ask how everything was I expressed my huge disappointment in the awful lobster roll (which I had eaten most of because I paid for it!). Not so much as a sorry was said and I was presented with the bill in full. I would highly recommend NOT wasting your money in this dismal establishment!
Well my so. Recommend it and after dinner husband said there is 6 slot machines I took $15 (3-$5)from wallet and said let’s see if I can win dinner . played ($.05 slot and max bet is $2.25) $2.25 x2 on first machine on bottom right …
Fair warning, I was a tourist. We ended up here after asking a local where a good place to eat nearby was. He recommended Gentleman Jim's and after confirming with him that it was not a strip club, we went. The environment is an odd combination of bar, Uber family friendly, and VLT machines. The menu was a disappointing collection of bland foods, which, after tasting, most certainly came out of a mass production freezer. If you're looking for a little less excitement in your life, then by all means, this is the place. But if you're looking for your next meal, i encourage going elsewhere.
I liked the food. Staff was very friendly. Had a home cooked, comfort food vibe.
Incredible. I am the head chef and sincerely enjoy cooking for Summerside. Beautiful variety and home cookery done at its best. Portions will not leave you hungry nor your wallet empty!!!! Daily specials nd home made soup nd rolls..
Worst food we have ever ate! Absolutely disgusting
Our server was good but the food well, I had the lobster roll although the taste of it was good I may have had two tiny pieces the rest was peppers and Celery. Very disappointed Certainly wouldn't waste my money going there again.
Reasonably priced food for the portions you receive! Good for people who just want a ‘home cooked’ style meal! Service was friendly!.. Probably wouldn’t recommend the slots side of the restaurant due to the bartender having extremely mature taste, as the ratio for my rum&coke was made 1:1 in a rocks glass!
Great comfort food and general fare. A little outdated ambiance with advertising on the placemats, and signs of menu items posted on the back of the furniture. But that is also charming in an old fashion/folksie appeal kind of way. Probably not many of this style eatery left around. No wifi, could be good or bad.
Great place to eat good service reasonable price
The food was really bad ..i will never eat there again ..and it had really small amounts off food .for the money we spent we got rob
Food was good.but for the money it was not worth it.45$ for hamburger and onion rings.a small plate of mixed vegetables.and children nugget and fries.2 coffee and chocolate milk
Ate here in the summer with a group 6. The service and food was good.
Wonderful food and service.
Friendly staff , good seafood only knock against it was a little more spices on food other than the seafood. Good experience!! See you again
The food was very unappetizing and over priced for the portions. All of our food just screamed "we don't care". All of it seemed to be the cheapest possible ingredients either frozen, or not made ready to order and I can only assume they used their microwave for the majority of the cooking. We had the cheesy garlic bread to start and for $8.00 we got 4 pieces of bread with some mozzarella cheese. The bread barely even had any garlic flavour to it, and worst of all wasn't even toasted it was discusting, mushy, wet bread and It felt like it was microwaved. The fries were just frozen fries from a store and cheep ones too. They also, obviously had been sitting out a while and then were heated up for our meal. I had a burger which was unseasoned meat sloppily pressed between to buns with some toppings thrown on top, it had very little flavour and most of the elements did not seem fresh. My wife had the seafood chowder, the broth had good flavour but the shrimp was like chewing on a tire. Between two drinks, the terrible cheesy bread, a single kids item and two meals it came to over $60, all for some extremely disappointing food. I have honestly had better food at a Wendy's
Went as a large group with kids. Food was hot, generous servings and most enjoyed it. Service was great, very attentive, brought the kids food first which is always appreciated. Also, gave all the kids a complimentary dessert!
A good family style restaurant . I had my two grandsons with me and all of us ate well. The special was fresh Island scallops, they were delicious.
Had a steak dinner very tasty and very nice staff
Ate here at a swim meet once during a snow storm. There was no other restaurant open and they were closing. However they stayed open and gave us food. I would give the food a 4 out of 5. The restaurant is in need of some major renovations and upgrades. The bathroom was clean. The staff was amazing and was very helpful to stay open. Likely not great for large groups but a good cozy restaurant to go anytime during the week.
Reasonably priced food was ok nothing overly special
Great food at great prices. Pleasant atmosphere
Great wait staff! Good family style cooking! Always enjoy eating here.
Great food and great service ????
Delicious traditional, home-cooked style meals at reasonable prices. The friendly staff compliment the pleasant dining experience.
Very good fish and chips that i had in a long time nice place very friendly
Really solid food, good size portions, great service ! Staff very knowledgeable about their menu. Fries were great could've used some salt as they were bland but I added my own however, there is just something better about fries that are …
Dinner
Very disappointed. It's rare I post a 1 star review for a restaurant but I haven't had a worse dining experience in my entire life. I could get into the step by step aspects of how the dinner went downhill but I'll keep it to a few issues. 1. When the filet reached the table it looked pathetic and I'm not sure if it would have passed as a filet in any other place that touted being a steak restaurant 2. The filet was well done and it was ordered medium rare 3. The server found this out and said she'd fix it and disappeared instead of seeing how the rest of the meals were 4. While she was gone, we discovered the salmon was way overdone 5. She eventually comes back with the new "filet" and gives us the bill 6. I know the back of the house can mess up. I get it but then the server should make things up on the front end. However, the attitude that we got from her, while being charged the full amount of our bill for a horrible experience was outrageous. Like we inconvenienced her for the mess up. I will never come here again.
Very nice restaurant. Food was good, helpings substantial, prices reasonable, service excellent. Would go back.
Great food great service
A nice clean location with some decent retro decor. The service was fast and friendly, the food was good and the portions generous.
Dine in
Very good excellent waitress no problem there food was awesome
The fish was hard staff made us feel like we were bothering them. More focused on the bus of 55 that was coming in at 430 then the customers in the restaurant
I don't hate place I had a excellent mael on sunday.
Great service! Good roast beef!
A great place for a fantastic meal at very reasonable prices. From fresh seafood to tender steaks. The staff can not be more friendly and attentive
Consistently good homestyle food. Good service, nice people, terrific lunch specials. Family- friendly. Good value for the $.
Meal type
Best steak ive had at a restaurant in a long time my wife had the burger and said it was amazing. Staff was great with the kids
We ordered a baked haddock fish and it tasted good. But we also had a salade and the lettus was cut a few days ago and not fresh. The service was good and friendly and the place looked pretty nice. The price was fair.
DO NOT GO THERE Absolutely discussing food, and horrible service. The food seemed to be reheated a day later. Customer service was so poor, waitress was extremely rude. She did not bring us (table of 3) any of what we ordered, then argued with us and would not bring us the proper food. Horrible horrible experience.
Been here multiple times over my visits to the island. Quaint little location with great tasting food at excellent prices. Portion sizes are big
Great atmosphere and service. Food was overall good. Lobster Roll was not the best I have ever had as there was far too much tomato and red pepper which took away from the rich lobster taste.
Great staff and food.
The warm water has dirt, also the water was yellow
Best scallops I've ever had and the clam chowder was very good too! Excellent service. I'll be back!
Came up as the 1st result for "steak and lobster" - they had no lobster. My steak was paper thin and absolutely tasteless. They didn't season it whatsoever and it wasn't grilled but fried. The veggies were also tasteless and overcooked. Only the fries were good but needed salt.
Great place to go eat. Food is delicious. Been back several times. The staff, and owner are very pleasant, even fun. Comfortable atmosphere, will definitely be going back. ????
Always a great place to eat. They also serve a great icecream sundae but I seldom have room after enjoying their big plates of food.
I drive from the other end of the island to come to this restaurant. I get the golden brown whole clams that are cooked to perfection each and every time!!!ti the staff are absolutely wonderful very efficient and provide great down home hospatility.Thank you cookand servers for a fabulous meal and excellet service!!!i highy recommend this restaurant ...you wont be disappointed...
Very nice family restaurant with a great atmosphere and a varied menu. The chowder and seafood casserole are excellent
Service was excellent, food very tasty and reasonably priced.
Clean, spacious, bright restaurant . Courteous staff, good food, reasonable prices, excellent parking
Very friendly servers along with a great supper special, definitely coming back here.
Good old style diner. Lunch specials are cheap and hit the spot. Service is quick even though they are always busy.
Waterlogged carrots, hard mashed potatoes, bland chicken, and "bruschetta" on a hot dog bun. Not to mention watery soup and Alfredo's sauce. Staff is too "busy" to pay attention to you—even if there were only three other customers. For a family restaurant, there is a bar with a slot machine. Went on the hotel's recommendation. Would not go again. Save your money.
As an experienced cook id like to give my opinion. I chose the triple decker. First thing noticed was the cheap compliments bread. Upon further inspection i noticed the mayonnaise was obviously old and even possibly expired also the chicken had too many chunks of fat. The French fries are currently the cheapest ones that i have experienced served on plate in summerside. I am giving a one star rating because the unexpected cheap quality of food and because i located a hair in the sandwich i ordered. Unfortunately it happens to everyone sometimes but staff was quick to replace the meal and apologized. After it was time to wrap up the show we than received an unexpected 37.99 bill for two cheap sandwiches and fries. I assume someone who owns that restaurant is not from PEI...
Good food. Friendly staff. Little on the pricey side.
Good food, wait staff is kind. Was a lovely evening.
Good burgers, haddock dinners and service. Turkey club sandwich and Caesar salad needs to be better.
We enjoy gentleman Jim's for one very distinct reason: the staff. Waitresses are awesome and very kind. We have been there several times and always have a good time and a short wait on food. Only docked points for flavour, food is always good but a little on the bland side!
So good service and meal. Thank you five star
We were referred to Gentleman Jim's by the Crystal Beach campground. Not worth the trip. Not well greeted, canned vegetables- not fresh. Food was nothing to write home about. No quality, no presentation....
Quiet and warm. Food was brought fast and hot. I miss the strawberry candies you would get long ago with the bill.
If value is your goal, Gentleman Jim's reigns supreme in Summerside. Simple good food at extremely fair prices. There's a difference between cheap and affordable. Cheap is when a restaurant purposely holds back on quality ingredients in order to make money. Affordable is when a restaurant knows what someone will pay for a dish and tries to make portion sizes and increase quality in order to get your business. GJ's does everything it can do to keep people coming back and you can tell by the amount of patience the wait staff have. This is an iconic Summerside restaurant that I hope never disappears!
M rrally fond of home cooked meals and found this place excellent in summerside...Food, quality, quantity and staff...everything is good...must visit...
Just had fish and mash potatoes and gravy takeaway. It was delicious, the fish had a golden crispy batter with hot mash potatoes and gravy. Very tasty indeed. Thank you
My favorite place to eat in summerside love the fish n chips prices are great
Prices are way too high for the amount and quality of food. Their menu show these big, filling platters. But when they bring them, platters are smaller and with very little of everything. For example, their menu shows their mixed grill seafood platter with like eight pieces of each item plus a whole piece of lobster. When they brought it to us, the platter only had about two to four little pieces of each item and the lobster was chopped up completely to the point were you couldn't see it nor taste it. Now guess how much is this platter? $25.99 plus tax.
Really skimpy with the scallops. Chicken alfredo is decent. Overall, decent place to eat, but likely more expensive than it is worth.
Service
Delicious meal , good service and cozy place
First time I had steak cooked exactly how I wanted it....medium well.
Not just good steak, the chicken fingers were excellent.
My wife and I just had the most amazing meal!! My steak was perfection. And the prices are very reasonable especially for the quality of food. We've been here a couple of times before and tried something different each time and have yet to be disappointed. Keep up the great work.
Great food great staff wonderful atmosphere
Service was bad and food was disgusting!
The service was friendly, fast and knowledgeable of the menu . The food was hot , flavorful and delicious .
Hot turkey was good, older dark hair greeter is kinda rude.
July 15th 2017 at 7:24 PM came in got seated... at 7:42 PM we walked out... no menu... not served... nothing for 18 minutes. Come on...
From outside, this place did not look very impressive, but as we stepped inside, it looked and smelled clean. Staff were very friendly. I had (not exaggerating) the BEST Alfredo fetuccini I have ever had in my life!! Super tasty!! …
I was traveling with my wife and two dogs so we were looking for somewhere we could get take out. We saw the sign that they also do take out and we hoped the food would be good. It turned out that the food was good and the service was fabulous. The waitress brought our food out to the car and the owner even came out with water for our dogs.
I have been here several times over the years food is delicious! I have frequented more in the last couple of months and tonight was absolutely the worst service I have ever received!
Absolutely horrible customer service. We were completely ignored, no water was even given. Waited quite some time after receiving our food to get ketchup after asking 2 people other than our server for some, we ended up finishing our food without any. In the time we were there, 3 different sets of people behind and in front of us had already came, finished their food and gone.
Some of the best service and food I've had in a long time and I will go back.
Most people only go on here to give them a reason to complain. It's a basic diner/restaurant. It is what it is. The food is good. We've been there several times and we're going again tonight. FYI, you get a ton of food when you order the two piece fish and chips. Have a good one.
Food was excellent, quick and hot. Prices were great and the Service was great as well. One girl serving the lunchtime crowd. We are from Ottawa and really enjoyed this restaurant.
Pricey for a small amount other wise amazing food and amazing waitresses.
We've been going here for several years every time we're on the Island. Never had any issues with the food or the staff. The restaurant is very good for what it is...a family eatery. If your expecting the Ritz you will, no doubt, be disappointed. It is what it is and, for us, it's very good!!!
Had the stir fry it was awful, ended up just eating the rice off the bottom and a few carrots. Was charged in full.. do not recommend.
Went in yesterday for a late lunch.Excellent service ,food ,prices. 2 of us had steak and scallop special.(1/2 price).other 2 had club sandwich and hot hamburger. Everything was tasty and good price. We will be back.
Very friendly staff and good food reasonably priced.
We went in for lunch one day and I asked for soup and sandwich and was beef barley soup and all I got was couple of pieces of meat and no barley but still had pay the same price
Ordered chicken soup got beef soup, asked for milk with coffee , got cream, asked twice for extra lemon and finally got a badly stained coffee mug to drink from. If they were busy some things understandable , but less than s dozen in the restaurant at the time. Food was good though.
Good, fast, friendly service. Delicious food
Friendly family restaurant with very good staff. Regular food like you would have at home but it is made for you! Patrons are very friendly too!
Not the best menu. Price's are pretty high and food quality was poor at best.
Not worth the price there are better places on island with better food
Good food, fresh and quick and friendly
Fries served hot, coffee strong, soup good. I'd go back for another meal. Excellent service, very friendly.
Good steak, mussels and lobster. Fresh and tasty. Price is a bit high though..
Good portions , good price but staff seem to busy to pay attention to you.
This was our first visit. I found the food and service to be enjoyable, but the restaurant was very warm and smelled of cigarettes. The smell could have been other guests.
Awesome meal, excellent service.
Staff very busy but the place is packed. Food was very good. Would definitely recommend
Lovely server .. good food
I ordered grilled chicken on a kaiser and received day old dried out roasted chicken breast sandwich thrown on grill to give grill markes. tasted little piece was gross was returned. never eat in this place again.
Small local restaurant in the commercial area of Summerside. Was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening at suppertime. Immediately raised a red flag for me but the service was decent and food was average. Huge meal portions made it worth the cost. I had the haddock special which came with a hearty Turkey soup as an appetizer which was quite nice. I found it odd they served rutabaga with my seafood. We ate here because it's one of my grandmothers' favourite restaurants, and she's a long time resident of the island.
Great service and good food reasonly priced. I would go back again.
A fine meal and great service made dining with family an especially enjoyable treat.
Was in the restaurant and Jamea came out at a table of people saying his food was fine and he wouldn't replace it. The gentlman at the table said his chicken was pink, and did not feel comfortable with eating it.. He then said he didn't care and take the business elsewhere He then proceeded to almost chase them out to the parking lot yelling at them. Not professional and I will never eat there again, because of this. Would he have treated us with the same disregard if our food was raw??? I would have to say probably....
Delicious and good service love it!
Great food super service with a smile
Great food and service!
Great service and the meal was delicious.
Very nice place, very good food for the price!
Waitress was unfriendly. Took nearly an hour to our in out order, drinks took forever to get. After waiting even longer got told items weren't available and had to re-order. Then they brought the order and it didn't have some of the items - we were told that the cook "didn't want to make it"
My meal was fine. However the fish served to my step mom was off.
Excellent restaurant! Visiting P.E.I and we couldn't find the restaurant we were looking for so we stopped here instead. The staff were cheerful, the food was great and they dropped off some complimentary scallops and dessert. Highly recommended!
Roast Turkey Dinner - the only great parts about this meal was the soup, ice cold water, and the server. Instant mashed potatoes, come on guys this is PEI use real potatoes, the instant mashed potatoes were like kids play doh, fake gravy, stove top stuffing, a poorly put together meal for 15.99. Pretty sure they could of pulled of a better meal.
We enjoyed it and would be willing to go back, not a fan of the steaks but everything else is lovely. Chef seems rather light on the salt.
The food and service was great and the waiters were very polite and helpful. I give it five stars.
Food was great, and the server was great. The only strange thing is that the waitress rearranged half of the dining room in such an awkward, noisy way. It was kind of funny actually.
Good food, good service, good prices. Worth a visit.
The owner here is so damn smiley and friendly ahahah. He’s extremely good vibes and hospitable!!! Edit: the burger here pops offffff. 10/10 recommend getting the “Real Burger”
Service was great I have to say. If the rating was service only it'd be 5 stars. The food however was mediocre. I had fish cakes which were seasoned with summer savory. Never heard of this combination in my life nor had any if the other 3 adults at our table. It never felt right, but I ate it anyway. My wife had a hot beef sandwich, which was again just okay. All adults said it was fine but wouldn't return. Filled a hunger hole but that's about it.
The restaurant is identified by customers as a family eatery but it is not equipped to handle big family gatherings. We were 11 adults and two children gathered for my grandmother-in-law's 85th birthday and the one waitress was overwhelmed with our orders. Two waitresses would have managed better; we just felt bad for the lone waitress-- I will add that there was also another big family whom the waitress was attending to-- the waitress seemed a little bit new as well so it was irresponsible of the managers to toss her into the room like that. She somehow managed nonetheless, forgetting our drinks along the way, delivering the cake to the table with no dishes, standing awkwardly at the end waiting to be paid, and receiving tips of entitlement from us. "Tipping is entirely optional", they'll say, but everyone knows it is rude not to tip-- so the least we customers ask for in exchange is good service. The experience may have been better if the food made up for it, but that was not the case for me. I ordered the "Jimburger", delighted at the thought of trying out a signature burger, only to quickly find out there was nothing special about the burger itself other than the name. I was asked what I wanted on the burger and I asked for the usual lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, mayo/mustard/ketchup, and a very small amount of onions. The result was a burger that was just fair, with no ketchup or mustard, a large amount of onions, and a side of unsalted fries. My partner's steak was no better and would have had no flavor if it weren't for the fried mushrooms he asked for on the side. Burger King would have made a better meal in my opinion. There are many things I'm not mentioning; like the crowded rooms and dining tables with barely enough room for our plates or floor space to walk through. The only reason why this gets two stars instead of one is because of its long-standing history in the community. But as for the manager and owner of the business-- they can make several small changes that would improve the restaurant tenfold-- simply improving their food, training their staff better, and sprucing up their dining rooms would give customers a better experience. My recommendation is that the restaurant stops relying on their long-standing history in the community and make some updates-- resistance to change can be what breaks a business.
Great food, service and quiet atmosphere
Very good food it's a restaurant that has been there for years
My boyfriend and I went there on December 30th and it was horrible. Quite possibly the worst roast beef dinner I've every had and definitely the worst pasta my boyfriend has ever eaten. We will not be going back. The waitress was …
The food was decent and Service was also but the prices are far too high especially when compared to other more high end restaurants in Summerside
Standard diner. More a place my parents would go, but the food was decent
