Wow! Had THE freshest and best tasting whitefish ever! Service was great too! Lock view is a classic, love it.

What I had: whitefish chowder, surf and turf walleye & sirloin with side salad and mashed potatoes. The chowder was excellent and the walleye was good. The steak and mashed potatoes were way overcooked and dry. No flavor. Service was very slow. Server kept forgetting items I asked for so much another server noticed and came over to help me. Very nice of her. Food is WAY overpriced. Not worth the prices they are asking. Overall, it was a 2 star experience. I'm giving it 3 because I was here 2 months ago and that experience was much better. Service was great that first time. Today was a big turnoff, though. I probably won't be back. If I do return, it would be for the whitefish chowder only.

When we find a good place to eat, we like to let others know about it. This is one of those places. Good value, good service, good selection of menu items. Ate here twice during our stay: once for breakfast and once for lunch. We did eat at other places too and they didn’t compare. Everyone got something different both times and it was all good, both times. This will be our go-to food stop in Sault Ste Marie in the future.

Pan fried white fish was delicious. Unfortunately, you were out of the white fish chowder, but the corn (and either crab or lobster) chowder was a very nice substitute. Server (I wish I could remember her name) was super friendly. Will be back the next time I’m up here.

Good, dependable, well established business, they have a good variety of seafood, great Whitefish (with 6 flavors), and a good kid's menu. I always enjoy a stop here when I am in town, it confirms that "I am home." Great place for both tourists and licals.

Don't let the looks of this place fool you, the food is amazing. I ordered the walleye with the Cajun seasoning and it was delicious. I thought at first it might be a little overpowering, but not too spicy, just enough to give it a little kick and still be able to taste the fish. I will be back!

The view from the restaurant of the locks is beautiful. The service was friendly and fast and the food was delicious. A little pricey but that's expected for seafood in a little tourist city.
We took a drive to see the colors and discover the town. Found this place on search. Very cool view of the locks and the food was amazing. Love the fish and the variety of sides. Whitefish is definitely the best. Clean and wonderful wait staff

We ate here Weds. evening about an hour prior to closing time, after reading such great reviews. The young "hostess" was not pleasant and appeared "put out" to have to find us a table, which she didn't clean off very well. I put a napkin down to prevent my arm from sticking. The waitress (little blonde girl) had a wonderful personality and beautiful smile. The white fish chowder was amazing (5 stars) and white fish basket tasty. The homemade pasty was burned completely on the bottom and very dark on the top, which was a shame, as it appeared to have been a nice crust, until i turned it over and looked at the bottom, as it ruined the taste of the dish, so we didn't eat it. It should have never been served.

An amazing view with great food! We started with the cheese curds which were perfectly fried and scrumptious. Next two of us had the whitefish chowder which could solely bring us back because it was so so good. My husband had the fried perch which he said was delicious but a little heavy. I split the lemon pepper whitefish with our daughter with a side of the wild rice, it was definitely enough food for two and the lemon pepper seasoning was perfect. The service was friendly and prompt.

We liked this restaurant so much we ate there twice in one day. I had the pasty for lunch and the whitefish basket for dinner and they were both delicious. The service was great and the view on the second floor was interesting. I recommend this place!

I can’t believe how good the ratings are for this restaurant and I NEVER am a picky person when it comes to food. I ordered the chicken, bacon, swiss and was wondering where the chicken was?? It was smaller than the size of my palm and came with 1 piece of bacon. My mom ordered the steak salad and the meat was cooked like leather and paper thin. She even asked for it to be medium well. We had to ask for water refills and the waitress never checked on us. I hate to leave a bad review but this place didn’t come close to past reviews.

This is a local favorite place but they were out of Whitefish, which is what we came for and the upstairs was closed, so no view of the locks. They are understaffed so there is a wait and they don’t take reservations, but it’s a popular place. So we ate downstairs, which has the feel of a diner with nautical decor. All this being said, the broiled Walleye was delicious and broccoli was good. The wild rice was over cooked and the bake potato was small. Ellie our server was very nice.
Great place for breakfast with views of the locks! Great covid procedures. Great diversity on the menu. Friendly staff. Large place, adjacent parking on the street. Walkable to the locks park. Really nice bathrooms. Would definitely go back if I was in the area!

The best seafood dinner we've had in a long time. The chowder was excellent and had us wishing we had ordered a bowl instead of a cup. Cajun seasoned Whitefish and deep fried perch were cooked perfectly. Service was great a well.

We had dinner there several times. Hostesses were nice and professional and wait to be seated was reasonable. Food was always good. We like white fish chowder, bread that comes with the meal and fish entrees. Broiled white fish is delicious. Smoked fish dip with crackers for appetizer is one of my favorites. Service depends on a waiter. Most of the time waiters were professional and we left 20% tip. Our most recent visit however was disappointing as our waitress ( the name on a check appeared as Lisa ) was very unprofessional as she referred to us as honey, my dear and such, instead of sir and mam. We still enjoyed our food, acted as there is nothing wrong, paid the check and did what we always do in situations like this, which is not leaving any tip.

Great service, nice views, and delicious fish dinners. Gluten-free options available, but ask your server as they are not marked on the menu.
I was very disappointed and will never be coming back here again. I was told this restaurant was one of the best. Maybe it use to be but service and food was awful. When you do terrible on a breakfast and you tell someone you’re running out of food so you’re shutting down for the season that is a bad sign.
Thanks, Kyle, for the recommendation of the whitefish. It was awesome as was the whitefish chowder. We had never had it and what a pleasant surprise to not just like it but love it. Lockview Restaurant is a quaint small restaurant with friendly efficient staff. A great experience. I highly recommend it.
Hostess was rude. Manager was worse. Food is good. Tried to go in for lunch and they refused to let me place a take out order. Good food terrible hostess and management.

Staff was oh so kind, and the food was scrumptious. The real kicker was the decor, I felt very at home in the room full of fish and boats and other fun lake things that made my little Illinois heart soar. My drink was a bit on the weak side, but to be fair it was like 3pm so maybe the bartender was trying to tell me something. Anyway, good place. We were in Sault Ste. Marie for two days and we came here on both of them.
Good prices, great views, awesome wait staff. If you want Great Lakes fish, this is the place. Prepared in your choice of six different ways, the all you can eat Whitefish on Fridays is a deal. We ate there three out of four nights! Revisited a year later, the whitefish is still great! Ate two dinners and four breakfasts here and enjoyed every one of the meals. Whitefish and eggs is a new favorite for breakfast!

We visited from Saginaw during our 3 day stay near the Soo Locks. We both had club sandwiches. Food was good. I would recommend them and next time we go up I'll try the whitefish or perch.
My wife and I stopped in on Friday morning 8/20/2021 and had breakfast. We both had Omelettes with toast and coffee which were excellent and our waitress was very nice but we thought it was a little pricey at $27.00
Our party of seven came in about 8:30pm. The staff was very accommodating. Answered all our menu questions, got our drink order, got our drinks then got our food order. A short time later our food arrived. Everything was perfect. A very enjoyable experience.

The staff was friendly and helpful but the food was just okay. We tried the poutine but the gravy was super salty. Then we got the whitefish basket and whitefish platter broiled. Both pieces were prepared with the skin on.
Great location across from the locks at Sault Ste. Marie, be sure to request an upstairs table. Prices were reasonable. The eggs Benedict special was decent. Served with very good hash brown potatoes. They also serve a tasty biscuits and gravy (although the gravy was a bit thin for my taste). Overall a good eating experience while waiting for a ship to go through the locks.
Really good food. I got the roast beef sandwich and my fiance got the fried white fish. Both tasted really good and fresh. They had a couple of local beers on draft, and also the usual beers too. The ambience had a nautical feel to it, with the view of the street and the locks. Very quick service and kind wait staff.
Excellent restaurant!! The food (had the whitefish) was delicious!! The whitefish chowder was out of this world!! And it was awesome to eat and watch the boats go through the Soo Locks.

5 stars for service - attentive and friendly, 3 for the food. Fairly garden variety fried food, good Whitefish Chowder. The walleye dinner was pretty bland.
I've lived and worked in restuarants in the soo for two years now, and I've generally been impressed with lockveiws take out, today it felt like I got the same raw ingredients with noobs or overworked staff, 50.00 with tip. got a chicken finger and perch basket and we didn't even receive tarter sauce, but greasy fish and 4 sides of ranch? The fries were ????.
Went here for lunch and had the Chipotle Pan Fried White Fish. The White fish was fresh, tender, well seasoned, and melted in my mouth. The side of wild rice was decent as well. Where as the side of whitefish chowder was to die for! This was easily the best chowder I have ever had in my life. Worth going just for the soup! Service was reasonably fast, considering how swamped they were. Only down side, was the price. The food was slightly on the pricey side.

Food was good, large portions and good service, her probably waited 15 minutes to get our table. And a huge ship came through the locks while we were there. It was pretty cool to see.
The steak and eggs was very good. Steak was well seasoned and very tender. Pumpernickel Rye bread was thick sliced and delicious. Didn't care for the America fries. They seemed to be twice baked and very blackened. Not something I enjoyed. Try the hashbrowns they may be better. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive.
White fish to the max. So good.
We had whitefish and halibut, deep fried. Next time I'll get the grilled. It's nice you can choose how you want your fish cooked.

Couldn't get a table upstairs but it didn't matter. Loved the pasties and Whitefish bites! Menu great, Rachel was very attentive and patient while she tried to interpret our NC accent. Try the Whitefish chowder, the whitefish wraps were also very tasty. Loved the history of the place.
Pricey but worth it! You can tell they are focused directly on the tourist. But the food wasn't very far from excellent, in my opinion.

Both the whitefish and the perch tasted fresh. We had the baskets for both and although the batter was good and crispy, I'd recommend one of the dinners or unbreaded fish options. I think it masks the flavor of the fish too much. We got in quick for how busy they looked, our waitress was friendly. Prices are a bit steep but I'm sure you're also paying for location given the fact they are right across the street from the Soo Locks Park. Overall, would go again!
I really like the food, I would have given it five stars but one of my pieces of white fish was a little on the fishy side but other than that it was delicious.

The white fish was amazing! I'm from North Dakota and all I have to say is wow! Definitely need to start cooking my fish like this from now on!
The price for two eggs potatoes and toast was outrageous it was over 30 bucks for two of us and the potatoes were burnt
It was so good! I’m going to dream about the whitefish chowder! Looked a little touristy at first and sometimes those kinda places have generic food, but I PROMISE, you won’t be disappointed! So much is homemade and full of flavor, can’t wait to come back!
The whitefish was amazing!! Our favorites were the deep fried Cajun and the grilled lemon pepper, but they were all delicious. They were served piping hot, and the portions were huge!
Amazing Cheese curds and White Fish. I couldn't stop eating it!! Recommend 1000% percent. Staff is friendly and central location on the main road through town and across from the Locks!!
The walleye fish and shrimp were amazing. They were out of whitefish and stuffed shrimp, but it’s understandable, it’s end of season. Great place to eat!

The Lock View has the best seafood we have had in the State. The whitefish, walleye and perch dinner was cooked perfectly and had huge portions. The sweet clam strips were tender and juicy and the Alaskan crab was awesome. Service was terrific and we loved our whole dinner. awesome
I was not at all impressed with the food. The salad tasted over refrigerated & the fish was prepared in old grease.

This is a quaint Sault ste Marie stopping spot for a wonderful meal of fish. They had other things on the menu but they specialize in fish they do a very good job. I really want to give it five stars but the host is downstairs was a bit rude and didn't seem to care that we were from out of town wanted a good view henceforth the whole reason we eat the restaurant. What was even worse was the little black guy who was the hostess upstairs who couldn't have been more rude and more unprofessional than anybody else we almost left. The waitress made up for it she was very sweet very nice and did a wonderful job. The food was great but beware of the hostess is had it not been for them they would have gotten that fifth star

Breakfast was good, not amazingly delicious, but average, not bad. Eggs and potatoes could use a bit more seasoning (I’d put a bit of onion & roasted garlic in the hash browns, and paprika on the scrambled eggs). Also, the condiments come packed into these nifty little wooden boats, that someone spent quite a bit of time constructing. If you want to actually USE any of it, good luck... it was a bit like playing with a Fisher-Price “shapes” toy, with a goal of making it all fit. I caused quite a commotion just reaching for the black pepper!

One of our favorite places top visit at the Soo. The burgers are good. The whitefish and whitefish chowder ate great. The shrimp is ok. We would probably skip the potato skins (not our favorite). Pets not allowed but takeout is! Across street from Locks so plenty of cheap parking. Didnt have whitefish soup because they were out. Fish and chips with both perch and whitefish excellent. Fantastic food! The whitefish chowder was amazing. Large menu, friendly staff. A must when passing through or staying in town!
We ordered take out here and went across the street to the park to eat it. Ordered the cajun fried white fish and poutine. The poutine was gross and very salty. Though it was supposed to come with cheese curds, ours just came with shredded mozzarella. The white fish was dry without much texture or taste. The wait to get our food was also over an hour and it was definitely not worth it. I guess people just come to the restaurant for the views and not the food.
This is why I love the UP of Michigan. Independent Restaurants that have been in business generations. Food is great and so is the service. A real gem.

Pretty solid diner basics with an emphasis on seafood and a great view of the park. Had the whitefish chowder and fried whitefish basket. Soup was tasty but cooler than I would have preferred. Fried whitefish was tasty though the coleslaw was a bit off. My server was friendly and helpful. Tables were well spaced out and the staff all wore masks.

We have traveled many times to the U.P. as we are lucky enough to own a family cottage in the Les Cheneaux Islands. Whenever we pop up to the Soo, we make a point to eat at different places to support local businesses. This was a repeat visit to the restaurant, and for good reason. I love their menus especially the fish! Can't beat it. I got the Perch basket with tartar sauce, and it was divine. The atmosphere is themed as if you were in the mess hall of a ship! Not too kitschy, the staff are very friendly, and the environment seemed very clean. I look forward to returning next year for our annual visit to Michigan and the U.P.!
Its over priced and the only exceptionally good food was their whitefish. Beautiful view and air conditioning but my drink was waterd down and steak was unseasoned.

Wonderful restaurant with a nice view of the historic Sault St Marie, Michigan locks. We had the highly recommended local fish, the whitefish. I had mine Cajun deep fried and it was perfection. My wife had the whitefish bites which I ended up finishing off due to her inability to enjoy fish of any kind, thanks to her Daddy's lack of cooking expertise on preparing blue fish from Lake Michigan growing up. We escaped the Florida heat on the Southwest Suncoast of Florida to complete a bucket list place for my wife, the locks. I highly recommend this fine establishment but make sure you dine upstairs for the best view of the locks. Service was excellent and portions were generous. Cheap, compared with Florida dining. This is a do not miss experience if you come to Sault St Marie! By the way, try the Whitefish!

My son and I waited at the hostess area for over 10 minutes while servers all just looked at us and ignored us. It was the hostess' job to seat us, but she was nowhere to be found. There were only about 5 other tables dining at the time, it was not a matter of being too busy. I was mad before I ever even sat down. Our server was nice and the food was good, as always!

I had the Monte Cristo....it was very tasty..I think that the French toast should of had a bit of a crisp to it, but that's my opinion. My son had the sausage biscuits and gravy. He gobbled it up, so I'd say it was good also... They open at 7 am which is earlier than the other Breakfast places, so YAY! The waitress was very friendly... ....it is very chilly in the morning, bring a sweater This place is seasonal..... ****original review **** It actually has a view...if you sit upstairs. I have only eaten here a couple of times, but I do enjoy eating in a restaurant that has a view. The prices are a little high for the service and the food selection In my opinion. but it is a tourist place. On my my last visit however, I ordered the hot roast beef and it was exactly what I was looking for...it has that good dark school cafeteria (or if anyone out there remembers Kmart cafeteria) gravy. Yum!

Historic Restaurant with some cool pictures and nautical memoribelable. We arrived just after 10 pm, closing time and they accommodated us anyway. Meals were hot and delicious.

Great restaurant VERY good food and friendly employees. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO EAT HERE.
Expensive, but it is a tourist town and they have limited months they can make money to survive the winter season when tourism is much slower, outside of that the food is very good, the service was very quick considering the heavy clientele, wait time to get in was reasonable, parking was a nightmare but that's for everything in the small main Street area
