We enjoyed a great breakfast for our first visit to The Island Girls. Portions were good, food is home cooked style, service was freindly, and the Maritime theme of this restaurant gives it a true East Coast feel. We are lucky to have nice spot like this on the westside of Saint John, they even serve breakfast all day! I asked the story behind the name of the restaurant and it turns out the girls are from PEI.

Stopped here for lunch today with a friend who is gluten intolerant. Our server, Katie, was incredible! She had suggestions forbordering that were gluton free. She also had suggestions for everyday purchases as well for a gluten free life. I have always had excellent service to match the excellent food but today Katie went above and beyond! One of those rare restaurants that actually make decent scrambled eggs!!! So many places just chop up some fried eggs and try to pass them off as scrambled. These where light , fluffy and just a smidgen wet, perfection. Great home style breakfast, delivered to the table hot and in a timely manner. The service was friendly and approachable. My coffee was refilled at least twice. The atmosphere is cozy, although there is a definite nautical feel about the place, ????. There's ample parking, with nice wide access to the street.

Nice atmosphere, and great bang for your buck! They give you so much! We had the fish cake breakfast plate , you get two huge fishcakes, eggs and homefries. It was a nice added touch, the server asked if we wanted to add fried onions to the homefries! Yes please!

Decent sized portions, although I ordered a large poutine at 9.99 and received the same sized poutine as my wife who just had her meal side poutined at 2.50. Also the bottle of pop is smaller then the cans, so paid more for less. Gravy was good though.

We enjoyed lunch at the Island Girls Diner. It was our first time at the new location and it's lovely ... very spacious and bright. We had the Island Girls Special Breakfast, Liver & Bacon, the Breakfast Aubritto Wrap with Grilled Home Fries & Onions and a piece of Coconut Cream Pie. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious!!! Already looking forward to my next visit. ☺️

The environment is easy, pleasant and bright. The people are kind, genuine, and down to earth in every way. The food is delicious! I generally have the fish and chips which they are well known for. Absolutely delicious., I have also had a soup and sandwich combo, which did not fail to please my tummy. A wonderful restaurant. To go, and enjoy the delicious food, and happy atmosphere.

The food here is not what it was when they opened. At our last visit the pancakes were rubbery and tasted like onions. The fish was overcooked to a dark brown, almost black and fries were cold, we had to get up to ask for tartar sauce and ketchup. Eggs were not cooked as asked for either. We said something to the waitress and she took the fish and chips and the pancakes off the bill but we still didn't get to enjoy a meal. We ended up leaving half our food and the fruit flies were merciless the whole time we were eating. They were flying all around our heads and landing in our food continuously. It was the worst experience we've had in a long time. We were big fans of this establishment when it opened so I think they need to make some changes to bring it back up to their original standard. I would not recommend this place for a vegan or vegetarian either, there just aren't many choices other than a veggie wrap or breakfast with no meat.

Maybe I was disappointed because this place was so hyped. It’s a diner atmosphere , clean looking, with mismatched 70’s seating (but not in a good way- looks like they tried to save money by going to garage sales ) The food was diner style and generous portions, fairly large menu, prices were fair, but everything we ordered was just okay. Everything was saturated in grease like when the fryer isn’t hot enough. Would not go here again.

We had time for a relaxing lunch , we got quick response as we entered and were seated , we were waiting for a 3rd person to arrive so ordered tea while we waited..it was served quickly .A 3rd setting was readied. He arrived and was quickly set up with a coffee and we were given our menus and told what the daily special was. After a few minutes we each ordered lunch , the waitress was so smooth at her job we were hardly interrupted in our ongoing conversation . Our lunch was served exactly as ordered and was delicious , I had the Fish Chowder /fresh roll it was so good.. the others were satisfied as well with there choices.. we will go there again .It was a relaxing , friendly atmosphere with knowledgeable staff..

Be warned this might be long and not every point I raise will be relevant to everyone. Also, know that I went here wanting to like it after seeing good reviews and photos of the food. I'll start with the accessibility since this is where the evening goes wrong. Being in a wheelchair, I need a certain amount of room and mostly level or at least not abrupt transitions. There is a small lip that really wouldn't give me much trouble except for their choice to take up room in a narrow entrance way with decor pieces that do nothing to add to the experience. So, lip means I need a good amount of headstart and all the room possible to stop. Between the size of the entrance and the decor getting in wasn't happening. Ok, my wife was with me let's get takeout. Issue two, not a single staff was watching the door. We were lined up outside the door, those waiting for seats and take out in the same line. It was mentioned to them someone should be checking what people are there for, if picking up food that might be ready, sitting there and getting cold why is no one periodically asking patrons what they are their for and serving the takeout to let those people eat. The response by the way oh it's just busy. Yeah no kidding. That's why we are telling you to pay attention and maybe check. On top of that you have something like 10 tables between 2 rooms and at least 3 staff out front if they can't keep up and check outside please hire more staff. Onto the food and experience. In the "dining room" is a microwave and a soup cauldron/warmer. It might be normal to use a microwave at a restaurant, I personally never want to see a waitress warming up my food in a microwave before bringing it to me. None of this should be in the dining room. Patrons should never see that you are cutting corners and charging them for the privilege. Anyway, we wanted to try and so we ordered the two piece fish and chips to go for each of us. At $15 bucks I apparently had too high of expectations. At that price I expect whole fillets and good fries. What I got was two pieces of haddock loin. So, about 4 to 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Ok, now I'm very disappointed. We dig in anyway by now we're starving. The fish is battered in a thick, nasty batter and it dawns on me where I tasted this before, Deluxe. On top of the bad batter, the fish was overcooked and dry so not only was the portion really small for the price it was awful. The fries were under cooked, soggy and had absolutely no seasoning. We ate what we could because we had been waiting so long tossed the rest and won't be back. Honestly if you're West and craving fish drive somewhere else. Your wallet and stomach will thank you. To the owner's of Island girls you have a lot to improve.

The staff is friendly, but the food is inconsistent. On one occasion, take out, we waited well over 1/2 an hour because they were busy, and after getting home we ended up with the wrong order. After 6 visits, we are done.

I was amazed at the Quality of the food and the service at this diner. I was in a hurry and they got my food out to me extraordinarily quick with extremely high quality. I have only gone into a few places where they were able to do an over hard egg correctly and this is definitely one of them. My server Linda made my brief visit delightful with her quick history of the diner and her attention to detail. I would definitely recommend this diner to anyone.

Enjoyed my first visit to this west side eatery, a little off the beaten path. Dined on the bacon double cheeseburger and eggs Benedict. Fries and hash browns were great and the burger was really good. The eggs were cooked too hard for a true eggs Benedict; the eggs for this dish should be much softer with a running yolk. Service was friendly and prompt. I found the prices to be very fair and reasonable.

Go to Ossie's in St Georges and see what a real seafood platter looks like. Ossie's Rocks. This place is overpriced for what you get. Not coming back. Ossie's and Bob's Takeout!!!

Atmosphere was good. But that was the extent of it. My eggs were gooey after specifically explaining that I didn’t want them to be that way. We were the only table in the restaurant. I had to walk up to the counter to ask for a coffee refill and again later for a fork to eat my food. Waitress was very not attentive and seemed to be more concerned with chatting with her colleagues and prepping for the lunch rush than serving her customers. I had to stand up and get her attention by yelling across the restaurant to get her to give me change for my bill. Honestly worst service I’ve ever had. Won’t be returning. Was overpriced and not “home made” as their menu described.

Desserts are amazing!!!!!! The scallops were ok but the fish was really yummy and crispy on the outside and not dried out at all on the inside. They offer the choice of cheese curds or mozzarella for their poutine. Very friendly service.
