Extremely disappointed I speak specifically about the 4th ave. location. To be clear I have not actually been able to make a purchase. My first attempt I could not get thru by phone and online was not working. 2nd attempt weeks later same experience but I went to the location since I was in the area and attempted to place an order in person. When I walked in there were three different parties waiting for their orders. When I arrived, there was an employee that was at the counter taking payment from a customer. This employee entered the kitchen area and did not return for 10 minutes. During this time three more people arrived behind me as well as a door dash to pick up an order. When the employee came out he placed an order on the counter shouted out a name for pick up. I asked if he was taking orders, the door dash drivers asked if his order was ready, and another customer provided his name and asked if his order was ready. The employee completely ignored everyone not even acknowledging their presence and returned to the kitchen area. While waiting everyone who was waiting discussed the frustration with placing an order. I waited another five minutes for the employee to return to the counter only to be completely ignored again. I was polite the entire time as were the other potential customers. I left without placing an order as well as all but one customer at the time, even the door dash driver left in frustration without the order. It is very clear that your staff do not enjoy their job and dislike customers. If this was my business I would want to know how poorly my staff is treating customers.

Had the 2pc haddock & chips. Fish was good but not enough fries to go with even a one pc meal. Very disappointed with the portion considering it cost $16.10 with tax!

Tried this place for the first and last time. Staff was very unorganized and unaware of customers that were waiting for orders. Food was brought to cash and sat going cold oblivious to the staff. People were attempting to pay for orders staff couldn't find correct Bill's and had to rewrite them while takeout orders sat idle on the counter. Portion sizes were ample but food was nearly warm and tasted grease by the time it was served. Don't waste your time on this place definitely not worth your while

One of the best tasting authentic (British-style) fish & chips. The batter is very thin and crispy. Also love their cole slaw. I've been there so many times in the past year. The staff are extremely friendly. They use the Vicinity Reward system (the more points you earn, the better the rewards). This location is the original. They have 2 other locations in St Catharines and 1 location in Stoney Creek. The young lady at the order desk is always cheery. The owner's wife is an accomplished piano performer and sells CDs of her music and all proceeds are donated to charity. Her music is played in the store. Here again 2018-03-24. They are celebrating their 10th anniversary so dinners are 20% off. There is free WiFi.

Jan 2020: first time here and we had the lunch halibut. A fair-sized portion of fish, plus plenty of fries and a nice vinegar-oil coleslaw. The fish batter was a nice surprise; a good flavour, not heavy, and not at all greasy. The fries were "average" hand-cut fries; way better than frozen, but nothing extraordinary. Price was fair for the 1 piece lunch portion ($10), which goes up to $12.50 after 2pm. We'll be back. Recommended!

????Key feature of this place is definitely fish , especially Haddock ????Love the Loyalty program (collection of points might give you free piece of fish/appetizer etc./ all depends on how many you have collected so far) ????"To go" option is available (as well as Skip the dishes) ????The place is pretty small inside and the schedule is somewhat unpredictable. ????Chips are a bit mushy (tasted as they were cooked from frozen) ????Overall ???? Awesome place to stop by if you want to have a quick bite in the local area.

Fish is one of the best I have had! Fresh, crunchy and delicious. The onion rings are also awesome. The place is clean and the deco gives it an authentic British Pub look. Only reason I gave it a 4 star rather than a 5 star is because on the three occasions that I have been there, the cashier is unfriendly and has an irritated and impatience look. He never says hello, goodbye or thank you despite me always leaving a tip. He always makes my visits less pleasant but the yummy fish makes me happy! Lol

They have gluten free fish n chips! You can get the gluten free batter on any fish you want and its crunchy and almost identical to any other fish n chips that have the gluten. They have good lunch specials too.

This was my first ever visit to Union Jacks, I went for the gluten-free fish and chips. The fish was absolutely delicious! My only complaint was the service was extremely slow, and considering there were a ton of people working I really didn't think it was appropriate.

First time customers, entire restaurant and staff seemed to be disorganized. The fish was very tasty, however on one plate of food there was a hair on the plate and it appeared the food had been placed on top of the plate with the hair. We brought this to the attention of our server, and the response was “sorry”. We had heard very good reviews about this restaurant, however, this was not our experience.

I went in with a pour attitude, As I waited in line I listened to the young woman taking orders being as calm and collective as she possibly could be whilst completely slammed with orders. You could tell how flustered she was. None the less, she took the time to carefully and politely recite every order to each customer assuring everything was correct. I will say the fish was a bit soggy but that is the only complaint I could possibly argue. Service is 10/10

Love Union Jack on Carlton, stands to reason we would love this location too, right?? Wrong! After waiting an HOUR in the lobby and watching people come and go with their food, we reminded them we are still waiting for our order. Finally we got said order after a total wait time of an hour and 10 mins. Opened up the bag to chow down at home only to find the order was wrong. The one thing I can say that was good was the extra side order we ordered was correct, piping hot and they added a few extra, which was very fortunate for us because that side order ended up being the bulk of our dinner.

The food was delicious. Unfortunately a man who I assume was the owner was being extremely disrespectful to his employees. He had called them all over to the cash register and had a "staff meeting " in front of everyone waiting for the food. I felt so sorry for the girls working. One of the girls was near tears and he still would stop. I understand the need to train and Coach staff. But that should be done away from the customers. And should never be done in a way that belittles anyone or bring some near tears. If you want good employees that isn't the way to have them. Just as I was about to go and get my money back my food came out of the kitchen. He looked at the order and continued being mean to his staff. My daughter went up to the counter and asked is that my food? And he said yes. My daughter said you know there is a time and a place. And this is not it. He was so consumed with giving his employees are hard time that he didn't even hear her. Then I went over to the counter and told all the girls that I was sorry that they had to deal with this. Probably never going back to this place I want go to a place that treat their staff like that

I usually enjoy the food here but today was not that day. I ordered 2 pieces of fish, no fries and double the cole slaw. I brought my order home and found that I got French fries and 1 piece of fish and I was charged for 2. Also the fish and fries were not cooked in fresh oil. They were dry and tasteless. I realize u try to cut costs but hopefully not at the cost of customers. I will try your business one more time but if the results are the same, I will not be back.

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating their gluten free fish and chips which is what my wife must eat due to food reactions. I found that their customer service by the owners to be non plus. 3 years in a row I have tried to order on Good Friday where they have refused due to the high volume however that leaves individuals like wife watching other eat their meals and enjoying while we go without. I also found this year with COVID-19 in place they did not offer on Good Friday the option of Delivery. I am more and more upset with this location as whilst i do enjoy their food, I feel that management leaves a lot to be desired. Why does my wife have to be penalized. She has a food intolerance that could leave m her crippled over and in bed for days and i am sure she is not the only one. i have gone in at 7:30 expecting to get food only to be told they were closing at 8 and that the fryers were off. Having worked in the food industry in the past and know several who own restaurants in Ontario. I asked if this was normal practice and their reply has always been no. Though the food is good their service options leave a heck of a lot to be desired. I would avoid them if I were you. My wife now feels that there is no use to be frequent their location any longer as she has repeatedly been let down.!!!!!!

Awesome fish and chips. Perfect chips actually. Fish tasted fresh and was well cooked. Good menu selection and reasonable prices. The service was super nice. Young girl at the counter was pleasant and helpful and quick. Will definitely be back. I thought it was cool that the owner is an established pianist. Not the most obvious choice for a pianist to expand into, but she did good! It's clear that whatever she does she does well.

I found the halibut and chips to be very good. Cost 21$ for 2 pieces of fish. They also will cook it gluten free. My wife felt the place could have been kept cleaner, hence only four stars and not five.
