I live in Vancouver, and have spent many years in Asia and this place rivals the best Japanese food I've ever had. A really great meal. Everything was perfect.

Incredible everything!! Sushi is great quality and presentation is lovely, their wonton soup is to die for!! The cooks are Japanese, and the servers are English, so it's a perfect combination because you get the authentic food cooked by a Japanese cook, yet you can understand everything when you order because the servers are English. The rice is authentic Japanese rice which is really hard to find anywhere other than Japan. The service was quick and very helpful! The servers were joyful and did their best to make sure we were taken care of. I would DEFINITELY go back a lot!!

First off, this isn't really a review of the Food. The Food is a solid 3 star (for the Sushi) / 4 Star (for the Donburi). This is a review of the Service, which spits in the face of the wonderful hospitality you get in every other Canadian Restaurant. Let's start with the word 'Restaurant' as I'm not sure Kawakubo and define it the same way - for the staff at Kawakubo seem to feel they're operating a Fast Food service. We rang to book a table, and were told on the phone that we'd have to return the table in an hour. Fine, it's Sushi you don't need much more than that. We arrived - and the rather rude Maître D' reminded us again "You only have the table for an hour", and again... fine. Barely had we sat down when the (nicer but still pushy) waitress came to take our order. All the food was on the table within 5 minutes of ordered (all courses) - the server halfway back to the kitchen before the plate had left her hand - which was more than could comfortably fit on the table. Plates were taken before we were finished... ...and the bill was put down immediately. We had to ask for a Desert Menu (they didn't have one, but offered Ice Cream) and Coffee. Not that we were gagging for desert but it was the principal - no-one asked if we were ready for the bill and even by their schedule we had 20 minutes left. We ate the ice cream, bill put down again and as soon as we'd paid the INCREDIBLY RUDE Maître D' flew by and told us the next people for the table were here and we had to leave. He didn't say "I'm really sorry, but the next people are here. Would you mind leaving when you're ready so we can turn the table around?" or something similar - he didn't wait for a response so I stopped him and made a point that we still had 2 minutes left... and sat there until the hour was up out of principle. The guy was British I think (I'm British, but even by expected British standard of rudeness, this guy was someone else) and just so so so so rude. We won't be going back here again the next time we're in Revelstoke. To add insult to injury, many of the tables around us were empty. If you're going to book tables, allow time to turn the table around don't push your paying customer out of the door. A reminder, the customer pays for service - not the other way around. Awful.

Fantastic sushi deep in the mountains. Great rice texture, thick fish, amazing rolls. The scorpion roll and watermelon roll were our favorite. The karaage was pretty good too, paired with a sweet and sour ponzu sauce instead of the traditional mayo was a nice twist. Have been back 3 times and will more in the future. Just make sure to call in to make reservations, they get bumping for good reason.

Fresh out of the ocean sushi depp in the mountains. No, you aren't concussed from that last wipeout on Kill the Banker, it is possible. I showed up here with a small group as a walk in, they were full but said they would take my number and call me in 30 minutes to get us in. We toured the Art Alleria (check it out) and 30 minutes later to the second phone rings. The food is unreal! Every roll and I tried was melt in your mouth delicious. I highly recommend the crispy Philadelphia roll, didnt even know this was a thing. If you're looking for a good house sake to warm those bones after a day on the hill and fill your belly with some great good, check this place out.

Very good value for the money and that food came out quick! It was tasty and enjoyable. My only knock was the service. My wife and I were with our 6 year old son who ordered a juice and it came in a large glass. Large enough that you wouldn't expect a 6 yr old to drink from. I asked for a straw and the server went to the back to look, then forgot about us unfortunately ????. When I saw her again she said they were out. I know we're in a "think of the environment" time where it's important not to leave a carbon footprint, but get some straws.

This is a busy restaurant so make sure to book early and be patient with the staff because the food is worth the wait. The sushi was phenomenal, fresh, and played elegantly. The starters were just as well presented and as delicious. Overall great experience. I would recommend the sushi dinner for two. The restaurant tailors this plate to your liking, so you won’t be surprised with something you wouldn’t like. Highly recommend.

Sushi here is fairly decent for a place found in Revelstoke. Portions are a bit on the small side for what you're paying and the sushi rice could use some more rice vinegar for flavour. Flavour overall is good - way better than chains like Kinjo in Calgary. 4/5 stars for the food and service. Service staff is extremely friendly, professional, and accommodating.

This is a shop I always hit when passing through Revelstoke. The last two times, this place left me in a state of awe. After a long hiatus, we finally returned out west and were able to drop-in for some sushi. The service was fantastic, capable, and a delight to chat with. The food didn't hit the same mark that it typically does, but I suspect that's likely due to the menu choices. The Unagi Nigiri definitely hit the mark. Will be back next time for more!

This is some of the BEST sushi I have ever had! PLEASE go here if you are visiting Revelstoke! The food is amazing, the service is awesome, and they are totally willing to change things up if you want to make substitutions. We go on special occasions as it is more expensive to eat, as we order a LOT lol. The drinks are super yummy too! I have NEVER had to wait for long for food, so I have no idea what one of the other reviewers is talking about. Go and enjoy! :) Update: By far the BEST sushi I have ever had. We now live about 12 hours away and pout that we are no longer able to eat this sushi. It's insanely delicious! We joke that when we win the lottery, we will fly there by helicopter to get our hands on it!

The food was excellent. However, the service was really bad. When I finished ordering the server's response was questionable. She literally said "Really?" then paused and said okay. We dont exactly understand what she meant by that but we felt like she wanted us to order more. We felt really uncomfortable even though the food was great. When we asked for the bill she said that the machine was working fine all before us and suddenly stopped working after 2 seconds of trying. Then miraculously after 5 seconds she said it started working again. She was the server with husky voice downstairs.

My dynamite rolls was good. But if you are vegan or vegetarian beware as they don't have a clue. The miso soup has fish stock which they serve with the vegetarian meal and the agedashi tofu comes with a sauce made with gelatin. The vegetable rolls looked like they where thrown together, very unappealing . My vegan friend was served a salad with a creme dressing. I give it a three for my roll but my friends would give it one star if that.

Had the teriyaki chicken with rice a Ebi Ebi roll and a Boston roll for dinner. Service was very fast and friendly. Attentive staff. Asked them to select me a roll at random and they chose the Boston roll which was great. Will come here again next time I visit Revelstoke.

Really good quality food and fresh sushi! I’m a huge fan of sushi and was very pleasantly surprised by how unique and delicious the rolls were, and how fresh & melt in your mouth the sashimi was! The cherry on top was the amazing service- all the waiters were super friendly and accommodating. Call ahead if you can for a reservation or just to see if there will be a wait time. Their entrance is small so it can get a little congested

I would love to give this place five stars for the food, because it's amazing! However, several times I've had to wait an hour for a roll, or had orders completely forgotten. They've always rectified the situation and I love eating there, but give yourself a couple hours if you're heading in.

The Gyzoa was the worst I’ve ever had. The yam, and Philadelphia rolls were okay. The fire is so so, not worth the price. The spicy tuna was the best, but each roll has a ton of rice on it. Vernon’s is much better, I wouldn’t go back to this one.

Have visited Kawakubo on many different occasions while in Revelstoke. Some of the best sushi I've had anywhere. The building Maddy be small, but the food is amazing. Probably a good idea to get reservations as on some nights it's completely booked. Overall, a must visit when in Revelstoke.

We pick this Sushi restaurant based on the review. We where there on a Saturday night without any reservations we were lucky we didn't have to wait at all for a table. I have to say the food got to our table very fast we order tempura and gyoza for appetizers shushi fire & volcano and the chicken tempura salad everything was delicious the shushi were fresh and good portion. It was a little pricy but worth it for the quality. Have to mention also the our waitress was super friendly and helpful. Definitely is a must Stop restaurant in Revelstoke.

Possibly the best beef teriyaki I've had in Canada. So tender and flavourful! Other items on the menu were pretty good too. The lady who served us was also incredibly friendly and nice. Too bad I don't live around the area, otherwise I'd definitely be a regular. But I'll be sure to dine again if I'm ever in Revelstoke.
