It's not a chain store. It's not shiny and colourful. In fact it looks like something from Bladerunner or Neuromancer. But the owner is an expert and the staff is knowledgeable. They all seem to be invested in their jobs rather than it being "just a job". Highly recommended.

I’ve known Stu since I was a kid for what is probably well over 15 years now back when he was the fish department manager of a big box pet store! I have seen a few reviews here saying they are condescending and arrogant, that couldn’t be farther from the truth! They care for the well being of all the living creatures that come from either their store or others, if people can’t handle the truth that living things need specific care then they shouldn’t even bother trying to have these animals as pets. They are more than just pets, these animals very often see you as family, and if you can’t at the very least provide the required care, then your in the wrong hobby! It’s like the kinds of people who think keeping a betta in a simple little ornamental bowl with no filter or heater is okay…. WRONG! ???? betta fish are tropical, cold blooded fish who need a filter with slower moving waters and a heater to keep their waters consistently between 77-82 degrees Fahrenheit! They also need a tank that is no less than 5 gallons per betta! (Females if you want more in one tank!) Come on people and do your research! It’s not that hard! Sorry but my biggest pet peeve is sloppy/lazy pet owners who can’t even be bothered to give their pet the basic necessities for their proper care and longevity! This store is right when they refuse to sell an animal if they don’t feel the conditions are right! It’s about the the health, safety and happiness of the animal, not about profits! Rant over! Great store and great people running it!

The staff is okay, tanks look like they have been through a war and back the pipes are nasty they have algae growing on them, I wouldn't buy salt water fish hear the tanks are not cleaned well, never get water testing hear they are garbage if you want a testing buy your own the testing station is so unorganized , they don't clean out dead fish for at least 3 days, THEY ARE WAY OVER PRICED.

Great Staff, however, I have been there before and it was clean and beautiful looking. After, the third time, the store was filthy, a bathroom was opened and looked like black mold forming the walls/room. Water pipes outside of the fish tanks were green (algae). Disgusting and inhumane. So, much violations, I hope they clean up.

So I have gone to this store 3 times now and each time I feel attacked on my knowledge and my friends' knowledge, some of which have been professionally keeping both freshwater and saltwater fish for YEARS. They tried telling me that they had a goldfish get up to 20" long and the world record for the largest goldfish is 18.7" long. Also they told me that weather loaches get up to 22" long just today when they only ever reach 12" long maximum in captivity ever. Look elsewhere if you go in for a certain species and know what you want as they won't sell you any fish without a water test and you have to go through their little questionnaire. Also their products are overpriced and their betta fish look almost dead. I see multiple dead fish in their tanks and it's common knowledge to remove any dead fish immediately from the tank. It's a shame because they turn people away and those people choose places like Petsmart for their fish.

I've been going to PAE for 3 years. Stewart and his crew are knowledgable, professional and friendly. They provide me with information on reptile and freshwater aquarium care that is tailored to my individual needs and back their recommendations with scientific peer reviewed literature as well as decades of experience as reptile and aquaria owners. On the rare occasion I visit other pet stores in Regina, employees there invariably defer or outright recommend I take my questions ("How are your feeder nice euthanized?" "Is that plant a low light or medium light species?) and needs (lighting systems that will maintain live freshwater plants) to PAE. Choosing PAR is all about trusting them to give me the best info, creatures and care. And if they don't know the answer to one of questions, trustingnth to say so, then look it up or ask other experts to find the answer.

Pros: Great first impression clean building inside and out. Walking in store was well.maintained and clean. Workers where knowledgeable about what they had and where more than willing to inform me as well as others about water conditions along with what I might be buying for live stock. Very Fair prices! ( my wholesaler cost more.) Cons: They where limited on supplies due to financial setbacks ( perfectly understood) Could have had more food options as I found nothing for my needs. There fish supplies was under stocked and only had the most basic of fish for general population. All around had a great customer experience and was very impressed to have the Oener or Employee talk to me about the various fish and there needs. MOST EXCELLENT SERVICE! Will return again.

The owner Stu is very willing to talk to anyone and offer his advice and opinions. He is very knowledgeable, but his personal opinions do get in the way of the service he provides in some cases. He has a very specific way that he feels aquariums should be kept. He also refuses to stock some fish based on his own feelings about them. Fair enough. The livestock and plants are quite good, though you must be careful because they will sell you fish from a tank with an Ich outbreak. Also, there are no prices marked on anything. Overall it's a good shop and i'll continue to go there for things.

I didn't catch the girls name(we were there around 4:30 on the 25th), but she was super helpful. She gave us an info sheet and drew out a map of how the enclosure should be set up. We had orginally wanted a baby, but after talking with her we will definitely adopt an older rescue!

While they state they “cater to the seasoned hobbyist, newcomers and everyone in between”- that is certainly not the case. I am a beginner, and every time I have been in the store the staff are condescending and pretentious. If you don’t have the most expensive and top of the line equipment, they make you feel like you might as well not have it at all. My tank, fish, and plants are thriving- despite being told the lighting is pretty much garbage. The staff may be knowledgeable, but this is no way to treat customers and people who are trying out a new hobby. My family has also had the same issues, being told they’re “abusing fish” by putting them in a 20G vertical tank.

Staff is knowledgable but I find it lacks selection. Only a few aquariums, 2 types of substrate, and not much else in stock. My biggest gripe is they are more protective of a fish, than a nurse letting a baby go home from the hospital. They WONT let you buy a fish unless they are comfortable with your set up. Want a betta in a big bowl? Nope. They wont sell you one. Have a tank newly set up? You're not getting fish either, cause it's not "cycled" long enough... I like the store, the prices are good, staff is knowledgable, but their policies have something to be desired.

This by far is the BEST pet store in Regina!!! Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and they really care about your pets and their well-being!! Stu is the ????, if he can't answer your question on fish, amphibians, or reptiles, it means you made the creature up in your head! Lol

My boyfriend and I are just beginning with a fish tank. Brand new to the whole process! We were greeted by a thin person, no older than 25 and couldn't be younger than 18, with a snake around his neck. He asked us what we were looking for and explained our situation. Well he immediately jumped to being condescending and pretentious. He was not helpful at all and I know he could tell we were beginners. We left feeling confused and almost attacked. We will not be going back. Ps. Our tank is ready for fish now

Very Poor Service I know these owners and most of the staff, but I can't seem to get any attention when I want something. I do like to support our local businesses, but hey if I have to stand around like a zombie waiting for service I'll take my business somewhere else. Too many times I have been in this store and got poor service, many people around but they are so busy treating the business like a bloody petting zoo. It will be a very long time before I ever do business there again.
