Too bad I can’t post the screen shots I have of a post so here is the copied and pasted version this is from someone else who bought a tarantula from there recently..management and staff need to be turned over or given proper training
Shout out to Petland for killing their animals and their terrible management????Bought a tarantula last week from there that was pretty much dead when I bought it. When I got there, I saw that the 1/2" sling (baby tarantula) was put in a 5 gallon tank (way too big of a tank for a tarantula that size) with no water and a live cricket twice the size of the T (crickets can harm the tarantula). Little buddy was curled up in the corner. Seeing the condition it was in, I felt like I was forced to buy it knowing that I'm probably it's only chance at living. When the lady went to get him, she was poking at him with metal tongs which made me stop her and grab the little guy out. He was barely moving and was in death curl. (You shouldn't even be able to pick up a baby tarantula in your hands without it moving unless there's something wrong with it). I let them know that I would probably be coming back to get a refund since it'll most likely pass away due to the environment it was put in, to which the lady tells me that they offer a 30 day money back for animals that don't make it. The day before yesterday, I called petland to let them know that it had passed and that I would be coming in the next day. Yesterday, I went there and walked to the back to talk to one of the employees. She told me to wait a sec while she tries to get one of the managers on the phone to come back there. When she's done on the phone, she tells me to follow her to the office in the front where the manager is. As I got to the office, I noticed that both managers (male and female around the same age) are both in the office with the door closed with only 2 new employees out in the store helping people. I start to tell the managers the problem and let them know what they were doing wrong with the tarantula in how it was kept. While explaining what they were doing wrong, I was cut off by the store manager (male) with "well we can already give you your money back since it's been under 30 days" clearly not wanting to hear what they did wrong, just wanted me out of there. So when I ask for my refund, he tells me that there's a number at the bottom of my receipt I have to call before I bring my purchase back for a refund (which I was never told of ahead of time). He said that this number I call is a lady in Alberta that will email him that I really did buy my purchase in under 30 days (even though it says when i made my purchase on the receipt and on all the paper work I did before I bought the T). He then goes on to tell me that the lady I was supposed to be calling was on call that day so there was no guarantee that she'd answer the phone until Monday so I wouldn't get my money back until Monday. So I walk out of the office, called the lady on the spot, and got a guaranteed refund after I explained to her my situation. While on the phone, I knocked on the office door and told the store manager that she said I could get my money back. End of the day, I did get my money back, but I also know that petland will continue to do this to more tarantulas (and probably other animals) since they clearly dont want to hear what they were doing wrong. So just a heads up if you plan on buying a tarantula. BUY THEM ONLINE, NOT PET STORES. I really hope petland gets new management????
