This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Fish & chips restaurant.
I wish I could give this place 10 stars! By far the most amazing fish and chips I've ever eaten in my life! The batter was crispy and just melts in your mouth and even the crispy bits of French fries disintegrate. Emma was great, too! Wish we lived closer than 19 hours away, but definitely will be back. Keep up the amazing work!
Fish, mussels and scallops were okay and nothing special comparing to several different places we went eating before on the island. But fried potatoes were terrible! It’s a shame if you know that PEI potato is one of the best. Heard a lot of good about this restaurant but it’s a tourist trap, in my opinion.
Use to be our annual go-to spot after a huge family gathering at Greenwich. But due to rising costs on the menu (chocolate milk 4.50, 2 piece haddock 18.00???) and lack of seating we might look elsewhere next time. Food is still good.
Cozy little place with friendly staff. The meal was quite enough for two. The quality was great and as it is in the middle of the road to east of PEI , you can have a great seafood experience with your road trip in PEI.
Although the servers were great people and the food was pretty good, we did wait about 30-40 minutes for the food to come out. Ten minutes for drinks. We did have a large group, but it wasn't particularly busy. Otherwise great stop, and a nice spot with good food and decent parking.
What a place, unbelievable fish and chips! 2 days later were still talking about it. A must visit in PEI!
First time eating here. Great spot. Reasonable prices for great food. Friendly staff quick service. Delicious hamburgers and hand cut fries. Lots of variety on the menu.
Fish and chips looked way better than it was. We tried the cod and haddock. Fries were made with good potatoes, but were pretty limp right from the get go. The menu warned about the curry in the seafood chowder. Definately not to our taste and could have been served hotter. OK at best.
Came to Rick's for the first time yesterday while visiting the island. Ordered fish and chips, figuring the namesake for the restaurant would be a good choice. To my delight, the fish and chips were great. The fries were cut from potatoes and fried delightfully well - they weren't overly crispy or soggy. The fish was lightly battered, and there was a solid piece of fish inside. Only complaint about the fish was that it was quite oily. Another member of my party ordered steamed mussels, she received a large pile of them and enjoyed it very much. They were very fresh, and looking out the window we could see the bay covered in mussel nets. The decor was a bit lackluster and the whole restaurant felt like it was cobbled together. The service was acceptable, if a little unorganized-seeming. The food more than made up for these issued, though, and the fact that the place was packed at 2:00 in the afternoon speaks volumes to its popularity. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get some good island fish and chips.
Cosy. Not a whole lot of seating, but fast service and probably the biggest and best fish and chips I've had! You get your own bottle of tartar instead of the two little plastic dishes one would normally get at other places. Vinegar on the …
Super tasty haddock, perfectly battered, not too greasy, crispy, or soft. Chips were a bit dry but nice with ketchup. Nice, authentic touch providing malt vinegar in the takeout "care package". Would recommend highly :)
The fish was good but the batter could have better evenly spaced out. I had clumps of batter in some spots. The fries are limp fries but still flavourful. Everything is deep fried so it is greasy but I don't order fish n chips to be healthy. The milkshakes are tasty.
I was very disappointed the burger was obviously a frozen patty. The fries were home cut. They were pre-cooked and reheated when ordered pretty soggy. My friend had the hot dog and the bill was $35 which was a tad bit expensive for a burger with few fries and a hot dog and a few fries. For a restaurant that advertises fresh this was certainly not fresh???? I think there are much better restaurants in this area. Sorry Rick's Fish and Chips but you really need to step up your game.
Excellent fried fish. Perfect batter, crispy outside, no slimy transition to the nice firm fish inside. Not un-oily, but that's the way the best fish is. Even had good quality tartar sauce. I'm a connoisseur of fish and chips/chippies, and this fish ranked #3 in my life, really quite excellent. Seafood chowder (their unique curry type) was really pretty great too, curry flavor sounded like a bad idea but was fantastic in practice. More mussels than usual chowder, but you're literally within sight of mussel farms, so I don't consider this a bad thing. Salad with mussels was also excellent, heaps of good mussels, and not too expensive. This was all in mid/late September, and the place wasn't too busy nor empty. Service from (what seemed to be) the local high school population was good and friendly. This is not some kind of classy restaurant, it's a canadian chippy, and it does it well. Can't tell you if service or food flags during the busy season or off season, but it was quite impressive the evening we were there!
Not a lot of room to sit, so we got take out. It took about a half hour, and the place was busy throughout. The fish and chips (haddock) might be one of the nicest I've had. Not too greasy, very crispy with no sludge once you broke past the fried exterior. Also had the Seafood pizza, which was tasty, maybe a bit doughy but still tasty. The scallops side dish was amazing, I'd definitely have those if I ever went back.
Great food , great view. Our wait wasn't as bad as what some comments say. 15 or so... about average. They have non fish options... burgers, dogs, chicken fingers... and pizza! Yes, pizza at a seafood place. And it was really good!! Waitress was really nice. I would come back if I'm in the area again.
The worst chips i ever have. Oilly... Lobster roll is over priced . Stay away from it.
Ahhh, great restaurant, great food, great service...! My only problem is that I wanted to try so many of the items on the menu but, based on the reviews I read before going, I had to get the fish & chips. It was delicious. I also had a local beer that was very tasty. The place was very busy yet our waitress got to us quickly and we didn’t have to wait very long for our food. Sorry, but I didn’t get a photo of my dinner. I was too hungry and started digging in before I thought to snap a shot...!
The BEST Fish tacos I've had! Great outdoor atmosphere, definitely coming Back ????
Real good food and friendly service in a rustic setting at reasonable prices. When in the area, do not miss this!
Great food and friendly service! Ordered the spicy fish burger special with a poutine. Delicious all around and took no time at all! If you're around St. Peter's, definitely stop in for a bite here. 10/10
It was busy... A Thursday at 2pm. I ordered take out, which took 15 minutes longer than the 20 minute estimate. They gave my order away to someone else, which I had mentioned likely happened.... Then proceeded to send the newest server to chase after him down the road and return his bag. My food was returned to me, after sitting out for 15minutes. Overcooked deep fried mussels were unedible. Cod and chips was reasonable, a c+. No one wanted to help correct the situation.
Wow! The batter was so light and crispy, yet still melted in my mouth. The haddock was hearty. So amazing. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
Excellent fish and chips! Fast and friendly service. Sat on the patio and enjoyed the breeze. We stumbled on it on our way through the island and were not disappointed!
This place came highly recommended but was highly disappointing. Will not return. The fish had more batter than fish. Batter was light but just tasted like oil. Fries weren't bad, but not the best I've had. My friend hated her meal. Asked for Caesar salad instead of the fries, and that was really well made. The kids were starving and said they liked their meals, but were disappointed that the tartar sauce never came as promised. My curry seafood chowder was very bland and full of mostly potato but very little meat. Prices were very reasonable for adult menu, but the kids meals were overpriced. However, I wouldn't pay menu prices for the quality of food we received. They comped the Caesar salad exchange, but wouldn't provide discount off our bill for our disatisfaction. The waitress was mostly great, except for a couple minor things. She was very accommodating, but could tell she was stressed/overwhelmed. Will definitely need us find a better spot in Souris, as I will not return. I would much rather go to Pedro's in North Rustico or Lost Anchor in Cavendish. Those two are a touch more $ but WELL worth it ????????????.
To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of deep fried food in general. But there are fish and chips that I love. This isn't one of them. That the fries aren't noteworthy probably says it all. They have every possible advantage with the best potatoes in Canada and one of our best fisheries all around.
The fish was delicious, fries ok. Overall enjoyed.
Very friendly staff, also it was filled with tons of customers, I got take out as I was passing through, food was amazing!! Definitely will visit again
Always a pleasure to stop ! We stop in ever year , we are down. Never a disappointment. So worth a drive over !
It was over a half an hour wait. I ordered a simple hamburger and fries and the wife ordered a lobster roll. My hamburger bun and burger was burnt blacker then a cowboy boot! The lobster roll was so small ,don't even think it was a 6 inch bun and it came with three small pieces of cucumber. For what we paid I was not even close to being worth the price! First and last time I will go there ....will go to the chip truck down the way ...probably better and more food for your buck!
Very friendly atmosphere, nice view and lots of outdoor seating on terrasse and picnic tables. Food was very good as well!
We had fish and chips (tried the cod and the haddock) and lobster roll. I found the fish batter to be really oily. The portion to be small The fries were soggy. The roll was not bad but flavor/price makes it not worthy to me.
The staff was nice and the seafood was fresh. Beyond that, greasy and flavorless fish and chips. Curry chowder was starchy. Poutine consisted of microwaved cheese and gravy over fries, resulting in soggy fries.
It was OK. It wasn't terrible but it was not up to our expectations. We were expecting more from the reviews. The pizza was good.
If you love fish & chips , this is the place. Beer was good too.
After being plate shamed last summer by the waitress, Rick gladly offered me a free meal (I declined because of travels back home.) I decided to give the restaurant another chance this year due to his honorable response. Today, unfortunately, my 85 year mother was sent outside to eat (in the pouring rain! ), because she misunderstood the takeout/ indoor seating policy. We had sat down to wait for our meal but when it was delivered to our table packaged to go, the young waitress insisted that we leave. I pleaded with them to "plate" the meal for our convenience, but "those are our rules" the young waitress said. The restaurant tables were half taken as no one was out in this miserable day. We obviously did not enjoy our meal. Customer service needs to be looked into.
What a great meal! We had the seafood chowder (and they are able to omit any seafood you don’t want included), lobster roll, and fish and chips. All were thoroughly enjoyed and were amazing.
I've lived in Canada for 21 years, Rick's was the best fish and chips I've had in that time. Not sure where you're coming from and what your experience is but they serve a very traditional English fish 'n' chips style meal.
Terrible, I'm sorry but the only thing that was "ok" was the service. We were really surprised as it was supposed to be popular on Food Network. Very disappointing and very expensive. The Fish was literally drenched in grease, it was …
This place is fantastic, as an Islander I love a good lobster roll and let me tell you this is one of the best. For one it's huge, it's got some delicious seasoning on it and it's very fresh tasting. My partner got the clam strips and yum! Seriously do yourself a favour and go here!
We were here on our honeymoon back in 2015 . My wife loves your fish and chips. We live in Carmel Indiana. I would recommend your place to anyone.
Never had a lobster roll before and it was delicious! It's nice little places of the beaten path in PEI that made our trip awesome! ????
I am so happy to see this place still open despite the unprecedented times the pandemic put on the restaurant industry. Whenever I visit PEI, having the fish and chips at this place is always on my bucket list. I hope to be back to the Island next summer. Worth the 14 hour drive.
We arrived at Rick's with a group for lunch. The prices were a bit STEEP. I found the homecut fries rather unappealing and greasy. For the quality of the fish and chips, I am sure you can find just as good anywhere on the island for A LOT less $$. Overrated in my opinion.
One of the best chowders on the island. They add a touch of curry to it. Food is always fresh and delicious no matter what you order. Staff is professional and polite. Ricks is a must do on your island foodie list.
Food was good. Wait was LONG... well over 30 minutes...but it was very busy. They messed up our friends order and he never got it until everyone of our group was finished eating... so another half hour. But over all it was ok. Nice waitresses... Clean. Quaint. Portion size was fair.
Fantastic! I had the cod and chips, the clam strips, and the seafood chowder. The chowder was my favourite. The chips could be a little crispier, but the fish was fresh and cooked just right (actually, everything was fresh). The clam strips were the right crispiness. Perfect.
Chicken fingers were quite small but tasted good. Service was excellent
We just left Ricks and I am so disappointed. First, the glass for my pop looked 100 years old and was chipped. Then my fish burger arrived and it had about 1 ounce of greasy fish on it. The fries were soaked in grease. Sorry, but this place was awful.
Fish was okay. Fries were good. Kind of expensive but staff was friendly and helpful. Small town vibe with fast service. Was seen on the food network show "you gotta eat here".
Tried the 1pc haddock fish & chips takeout. The batter and fish were very wet and fries were not great. I may have gotten an undercooked batch? I can say I am not a fan, nor will I try again for that price. Sorry but it's not good
It is a nice place to catch a breath and grab your lunch. Not all dishes come with sides.
I was really disappointed with my takeout order of the fried clam platter. It was a bit expensive for the serving size. I paid $20.63 with tax and tip and a can of soda. The clam strips were over cooked and hard to chew and there were only about 8 pieces on top of a mound of soggy fries. The tiny serving of coleslaw was good, but tiny. Overall, it was the worst fried clams I’ve ever had in the maritimes. Hopefully it was just a bad day and maybe the rest of their seafood options are better?
Great food. Ordered take out and took it just a short drive across the way. Ate at a picnic table on the water. It was a gorgeous view!
We, my wife and I had lunch today at the Restaurant, Rick’s Fish and Chips. I ordered the Halibut Platter with fresh cut fries, fries were okay but the Halibut was heavily battered and it was hard to chew and one part was dry and hard, really on chewable. My wife had the Cod Platter with Sweet Potato fries. She said the Cod was also heavily battered and not impressed. I went there because of the program, You Got to Eat Here. I was very disappointed for a $50.00 meal
Best fish and chips and fish tacos on the island, period!
Totally enjoyed the meal on the patio. Service was excellent too!
Food seems good, but an hour wait for food when they said 20 minutes is unacceptable. Also do not order the shrimp and fish burger. You get 5 pieces of shrimp and the burger is all bun strongly don’t recommend. Especially if 5 pieces of shrimp takes an hour to cook. Disappointed customer. Better restaurants on the island to check for sure.
Rick’s definitely hits the spot after some hiking in the Greenwich area. Really really good chicken fingers. Light crunchy breading and flavourful chicken to the max. Sweet potato fries were amazing although the dipping sauce was just okay. Fish tacos were the best we could find in that the fish was phenomenal (crispy light breading, moist hunks of fresh fish). However, the taco itself lacked flavour overall and required several splashes of vinegar to compensate
Good food but over priced. No extra CoVid cleaning. No contact tracing. Outdoor patio tables were not cleaned between guests, and had dog poop on the floor. Compostable containers but no recycling or compost bins. Would not recommend this summer!
Enjoyed fish & chips and my wife enjoyed curried seafood chowder on the deck. Fast, friendly service. Only suggestion to improve is serve fresh homemade rolls.
Over a 40 minute wait for food, no way was I sticking around.
Recently visited Rick's during our PEI vacation because it was some of the best fish and chips I had ever had during a trip 12 years ago. Unfortunately I wasn't very impressed this time. Food seemed overcooked and greasy.
Great sea chowder..deceiving facilities. Facing St.Peter's Bay. Bicycle trail passes by to Charlottetown . Small friendly location and info center.
Always packed, but there is a good reason for that. Always yummy, always quick, always friendly! You won't be disappointed.
Not sure what the hype is for this place. The Cajun mussels were good, a sort of popcorn chicken for mussels. My wife was going to try their seafood pizza as its featured as a specialty but they had no pizza dough left (this was at 11:30am). Had the seafood chowder instead which was ok but the potatoes were under done. I had their fish and chips. The fish was very oily and only lightly fried. Chips tasted ok but were also only fried lightly and were pale. We wouldn't go to this place again.
Cod fish deep fried taste good, but the fries are so so.
Rick's is a regular stop for us a few times every summer. Our cottage is an hour away, but the trip is always well worth it. Rick's reputation is known far and wide. When we meet new people at home in Ontario, and they find out we have a cottage on PEI, they usually ask us if we have been to Rick's for the fish and chips. Last night's visit while slightly different than in past years due to the Covid 19 precautions, was still very enjoyable and delicious ????. Thank you to the staff for taking care of our well being as well as our hungry tummies.
Rick's had the best breaded cod I have ever eaten! My kids enjoyed oysters for the first time. What a treat. Awesome staff, great beer, great food. All made for a really great experience for the while family. Must have the cod!!
I went there for dinner I had to wait as there was a pretty good line up but I also believe anything good is worth waiting I was please with my order and found the very friendly .I even found as I was by myself they went managed to find me a table as it was pouring rain thanks ???? again I will be back and as busy as it is nobody has said about how the staff has the tables clean and try there best to get you in and seated I enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the claniness
Cozy little eatery...amazing lobster rolls and chowder. Where the locals go!
Great spot! Many gluten-free options! They have a separate, gluten-free deep fryer too.
Awesome fish and chips. Cajun mussels are amazing! Limited hours so make sure they are open before making the drive out there.
Must have been an off day...fish and chips were oily . Not only for me but my girlfriends daughters fries in her poutine was too...
HUGE disappointment! The service - what little there was of it - was deplorable, which was so surprising on this island known for its friendly people. I stood for 10+ minutes at the order counter with three waitstaffers passing & ignoring …
I went today for a clam chowder and got food poisoning. One of the waitress was bit rude and we wait a lot of time to get our food.
Dined at Rick’s Fish & Chips after reading the promise of expanded gluten-free options in 2018. Apparently, they haven’t arrived by July 2018. The only GF options were pan-fried fish (which was yummy) and a salad. The fries aren’t GF as they’re cooked in the same oil as the (gluten) breaded fare. As an added insult, the waitress charged me extra for the salad even though I had to pass on the fries that came with the fish! If a gluten-free diet isn’t an option but a must for you, then Rick’s Fish & Chips probably isn’t your best choice.
Terrible, greasy, over priced. I have visited Rick's every time I have visited the Island for years. I'll never eat there again. We had 2 two piece fish n chips and 2 two piece fish only, take out. $100.00, greasy and pretty much inedible.
I went for fish and chips... well .. there was fish bites and fries. If you're looking for a fillet... don't come here... name is deceiving. This used to be the best place. Now, Food sucks. Service? What service? My husband ordered fries with his shrimp tacos... cabbage and breaded shrimp only.... he never did get the fries. Waitress never came to check on us.
My favorite place in PEI: best fish and chip ever!
