For a new store it's not that kept up with. I will definitely NOT be going back here. Their meat department is never cleaned, there is always blood all over the cooler where they keep the meats. Check the experation dates on meat before purchasing most of the time it's "next day", either they don't care or they don't rotate their product. Either way it's nasty!! Everytime I have bought bread I get it home and it's moldy on the inside breads. I have given them multiple chances but they keep wasting my time and money.

The store is poorly laid out with narrow aisles and displays in those narrow aisles and at the ends. Near impossible to get around in. The parking lot was recently redone but has the same issue. Narrow aisles and the street parking by the entrance means you're taking your life in your hands leaving that way. There is parking at the side which is better and there is a side and back entrance as well which are much safer. The quality of the products is decent and the international aisle has every other non-specialized grocery store beat but for me it isn't worth the hassle

Staff are useless. They constantly have bare shelves on "lock down" prices but refuse to rain check them or substitute for sizes in stock. Contacted head office only to waste my time playing phone tag with the manager. Wasn't worth my time to pursue my poor experiences shopping here. I'll only stop here for quick visits for the essentials now, which I'm getting less and less inclined to do so with their long line up times. You're usually lucky if there are 2 tills open on week days. If it weren't for no frills no longer taking visa I'd probably never have a reason to shop here

Great service above and beyond. Was 10 am sunday. There was express and one checkout open. Having a full cart i went to the normal checkout where there was a older woman working. She was so friendly and proceeded to bag all of my groceries sorting cold from dry into bags and placing them in my cart when complète. I have never experienced such great service in my life ... I did Not ask her to do this and told her she did not have to but she wanted to... This woman deserves a raise, shes basically the face of your store and definetly giving food bassics a great name. Great option for affordable groceries in St Thomas. Lots of parking available. There are a couple things that make this grocery store a great option. 1. You don’t need a quarter for the carts. 2. It’s clean. 3. Line ups are small. I find it to be the best option for bargain prices, good deals weekly, on everything including meat. Good selection of meat and presented well. You can also get cooked chickens here as well.

My goto grocery store, good prices and friendly faces. Some stock problems during the pandemic but that's been everybody. I have a question and someone walks with me to show me where the product is. They don't just say "aisle 3". Also about the best store we have found to take safety protocols seriously during the pandemic. Cleaning carts, following traffic arrows, social distancing and making sure that everyone understands why they are doing it and thanking them for it.

My experience at food basics was magical. I have never been in a better environment by which being surrounded by so many black people made me feel secure. The pharmacy is great and house wears always have the newest trends. Don't even mention the sports section to your husband cause he will go nuts! I recommend spending all your money here everyday until you need to go on welfare oh and don't forget to wear your pyjamas and smell like dope as you attend your magical journey into simcoes Food Basics!

When someone asked if the exspress lane could open, a worker said "nope." and just walked away. As we were exiting the parking lot, a delivery truck blocked the entire exit, forcing us to back up and drive around to the another store's parking lot to exit. Super disorganized, will not be returning to shop there again.

Food Basics has good, fresh produce competitively priced, Omega eggs that aren't free range and $6/12, and reasonably priced 10% cream. They also have Herdez salsa, a Mexican brand, along with other Mexican products. My girls love using the smaller kids' carts and once took the larger cart that looks like a car, with steering wheels for the kids. The great part is it keeps them contained and entertained!

The staff is always very friendly and keeps in good spirits in spite of the pandemic. Very helpful. I appreciate that they carry good quality multigrain bread from Spicer's and apart from that, there's the usual offering for staples, fruits and veggies. Only found fault with their flowers, which are usually wilted, but I suppose they don't have a great audience for them. So far, I have always found everything I needed.

Need more options for refrigerated non-dairy / plant based milk. Seems like past few months theres only ever Almond Milk of some sort any time we go so we started going to other grocery store or out of town instead for most grocery items now... Would be nice to see Silk Coconut Milk (unsweetened and/or original)....and maybe other plant based products + gluten free items as food basics is alot closer

I wanted to make sure I left a GLOWING review, as I stopped in yesterday quickly, for ALL things "CAT GRASS", the Sobey's in FORT ERIE has priced it out of the market ! Asked if they had wasabi, sure enough :) Then picked up this and that so my initial 2.50 purchase, turned out to be around $20.00. So YES being pleasant MAKES a difference. The staff there werr extremely helpful and very pleasant! The store is clean, worth the drive to Port Colborne ! I must mention too as someone else mentioned points & yes they do add up, but when I get ATTITUDE from the express line cashier, at the No Frills in town, I would rather great service over POINTS ! Keep up the good work @Basics in Port !

Waited in a line for 10 minutes. Cashier continued to ring people in not saying anything to anyone no sign up saying lane is closed. The other two lanes were full had 10-15 people we get up to the lane and buddy says hate to tell you this (after ringing the people ahead of us half way through) I'm done after this order. We're like what the heck are you kidding me like we've waited you couldn't tell us before? You can ring us in we have 5 things and there are 6 people behind us. Nope I'm done so can't do it I have to be out at a certain time you'll have to go to the back of a line. So we got mad and they called the manager Victoria. She just said turn the light off too bad. So we dropped all our stuff on the counter and left. Absolutely disgusting. If he was shutting his lane down that's fine we should've been told way ahead of time so we could go to another line and not waste our time. I understand the cashier has to leave and he wasn't scheduled later and would probably get in trouble if he stayed in later but we should have been told, not made to go to the back of a long line and the manager should have come up and done her job.

Of the two more affordable grocery options in Port Colborne, Food Basics has better produce. The organic options are slim, as are the fresh herbs. The lines at the cash always move quickly and are rarely blocking the aisle. Extra pleased with this location because, unlike its main competitor in town, provides sanitary wipes at the entrance for cleaning your cart.

Was given a rain check on 2 different occasions for an item that was unavailable when I was there 2 times. Went 3 times to use them and still no product. Last night my Mother went to Foobasics and the staff did not respect social distancing. She was in the express line and an employee was standing right behind her not respecting social distancing at all. She told him he was standing to close. And he just stood there like an air head. She then told the cashier that he shouldn't be standing so close and the cashier told her "Oh well sometimes people forget." Are you kidding me we have been living in this new normal for 8 months. Mean while the employee was just trying to get a price on some salad dressing to change the price. I think he could have just waited patiently. What the hell! This is unacceptable! Yes I will be reporting this to the health unit! The employees should not me so careless. My Mom is no spring chicken and we want to keep her around for as long as possible! So respect social distancing and the new rules! You just lost a regular customer! St.Thomas has plenty of other grocery stores! To the cashier and the employee changing the price on the salad dressing: Learn some customer service skills! To the manager: Please give these staff members some more training! I am sure you would be just as upset if someone was not respecting your Mother or grandmothers!

I find their produce is very hit or miss, we have spent a fortune on produce, only to have it all go bad, in the following 3 days, this has happened more than a handful of times. I will say though, there is a customer service associate, that helps customers with getting their cart to shop and receiving the carts to clean, he's an older man, my goodness, what a kind and compassionate soul he is!! He is such a beautiful person inside and out and my husband and I always look forward to seeing him, when we go! Puts a smile on anyone's face and is so passionate about helping customers :) I give 5 stars to him alone! Many people of Norfolk talk about this man and feel the same way, there was a huge shout out to him, on the Simcoe and Area Facebook Group and sooo many people share the same experience. To me, this man either deserves a raise and employee of the month, at the very least :)

Today I went in to purchase Butter Milk and found only 1 left on the shelf. I also noticed other shelves empty for other kinds of milk. Cashier was insanely nasty to me for no reason. Between masks, giant plexiglass shields and the abundance of noise pollution of the busiest time of day I could not hear ANYTHING she was saying at a whisper. I bought 4 items, had to wait for the person in front me. The tap debit failed and after my payment did go through refused to let me pick up my items and pass the person that was infront because 'covid' and social distancing...but she still used the same food belt and put my items on the same belt as the other customer (without cleaning it) ????

Watch your flyers for specials and so long as the store's aren't too far apart then plan your shopping accordingly or price match at your favorite store if they have the same brand. Never enough cashiers on duty. Be prepared to wait min half hour in line only for the teller to put her next cashier sign up in front of you.
