The food was overpriced and quite mediocre but that wasn't the worst part. We were over-charged for a piece of cheesecake and the owner actually was VERY nasty and sarcastic about it! We had ordered the cheesecake sample and were charged for a full piece of cheesecake. I had to go through a 15 minute ordeal to get it corrected! My son needed a napkin to wipe his face while we were paying and the owner actually moved the napkin dispenser back and said "These aren't free!" Really? I would assume that eating there and paying for our meal would have entitled us to an additional napkin! If you want unbelievably great fish and chips and a wonderful friendly atmosphere, go to John's Lunch in Dartmouth!

Exceptional!!! Food & service was excellent! I had the 2 piece fish & chips! Huge portions! Great value. Fish was cooked perfectly with an excellent crispy batter, not too thick! Fries were fresh & hot with perfect amount to seasoning. My wife had the fish & scallop platter which was big enough for 2!!! Save room for dessert! Their Coconut cream pie is well known and oh so delicious! Friendly folk there & our server was a cool cat! Downside was that Google Maps had me running around in a circle. Tricky to find on the first time around, but don’t let that deter you. Thank you for a great first experience. We will be back.

Delicious food and big portions! Had the 2 piece fish and chips and I'm stuffed! The fish is very fresh and the batter is nice and light - all fish and not just batter. Another family member tried the scallops and they were nice and big even after being cooked! Again it was a nice sized portion. The service is fast and friendly and great place for kids. The interior is decorated in a nautical theme with model boats everywhere. Very charming. Overall I would recommend this restaurant!

Went there to eat with my friend today. It's my first time eating here, and my god, the staff are so friendly, they're very nice people! They seated us as soon as we came in, got us our water. We ordered two piece fish and chips, and came quite soon afterwards. Fish was cooked very well, the taste was light, but flavourful. The batter was flaky and crispy, and the fries were very crispy, just the way fish n chips should be! For dessert, we ordered coconut cream pie, and holy crap it's great. Best food I've had in ages, well worth the cash!

Some of the best fish and chips I have ever had the good fortune of having. Light flaky fish and crispy batter with no oily residue. Very reasonable prices as well. Make sure to also save a little room for a slice of homemade coconut cream pie as well. We stop in any time we pass by Truro for this gem.

As always the food was awesome had the two piece fish and chips but the service was not up to there standards when placing our order my wife and myself both stated we wanted extra tartar sauce when we got our order we only received two small paper cups each we asked for more the waitress brought out three more two had one ounze in them witch we're full the third had not even enough to cover the bottom of the cup was waiting for her to return to ask for a fourth time for more she never returned as my wife paid for the order she explained this to the cashier who proceeded to make excuses I am very disappointed at this as I am a faithful customer that will not be returning

They have good fish, however they are overpriced now. If i had of written this review ten years ago i wouldn't be saying this but they have cut costs majorly and it's noticable. Food price went up and portion size went down. They cram everything on a small plate and load it with French fries so it looks like you got more then you do. When you get clams and pay 20$ for them you don't get very much for the money. They are piled on top of French fries. They used to give a tartar sauce for every piece of fish you got. Now if you get one piece you get one tartar sauce and if you get two pieces you get 1 tartar sauce. How does that make sense lol. Anyways long story short, the food is good, the portions have gotten smaller and the price has went up.

Wife and I had passed through Truro 44 years ago on our honeymoon. Wanted to stop back and see Victoria Park where we had briefly camped on our way to The Cabot Trail. Asked the Maintenance guy if he knew of someplace close by that had good food at a reasonable price. He told us of Murphy's Fish & Chips, just a couple of blocks away. The fish and chips were Great! The wait staff was wonderful. But the best part was the owner, Mike. Cool guy. Had a nice conversation with him and feel like we made friends as well as had a good meal at a decent price. Mike, you are welcome in my home anytime. I recommend this place to anyone who would like a casual meal at a fair price. And you too might end up with a interesting conversation with the owner. Note: the parking is a little tight directly in front of the place, but additional parking is available down the block a bit.

Believe the reviews! ... these are the best fish and chips ever! The batter is extraordinary and the fish is so fresh. We each had the 2 piece fish and chips (see pic) and we managed to eat it all because the batter isn't too oily or sickly or heavy. Just perfect! You get unlimited tartar as well, and they can provide vinegar for the Brits that love putting vinegar on. We live in Halifax and we can't wait to return to Murphy's for the best fish and chips ever!

Well I hate giving Murphy’s a 2 star but honestly this experience wasn’t good. I ordered a two piece with a chicken Caesar and a chocolate milk. It came to 24 bucks (a tad pricey in my opinion) the fish was absolutely phenomenal!!!! Really amazing!!!! Now that was a five star!!!The salad was a different story. Normally I’d give a salad of that caliber a strong three but as I was eating it,I felt grit. So I examined it and I noticed that several pieces of lettuce had dirt on them. So because it was costly and it featured dirt (not one of my favorite ingredients) I’m going 2 star. However, I’ll be fair and say that I have eaten at Murphy’s many times in the past. This was my first experience with dirt in the food. Also they have many good specials so if you find it a bit pricey like me,you can always get a special. Plus they have lots of other foods that are good too! I enjoy the burgers, sandwiches and pies.

We showed up for lunch at 1:10 pm and were were seated in a booth, in the dark back corner of the restaurant. The food was ok but nothing special. As I don't eat potatoes, fries are out of the question but if I wanted coleslaw with my piece of fish, I would have to pay for it ( come on, it's a bit of shredded cabbage and dressing) So I ate my piece of fish and drink. Again nothing special and won't be going out of my way to go back. One piece of fish and a drink 7.50 plus tax.

Stopped in today with my family. When you walk in, you are greeted and asked to log your name, phone number and then your temperature is taken with a digital thermometer (no contact) which is very proactive in this present Covid climate. We were seated and given a disposable menu which I appreciated because less contact surfaces to share, the better! We ordered our food and it came in about 10 minutes and was piping hot! I ordered the cheeseburger platter and it was a handmade patty which is so much tastier than the cardboard cutouts. My mother and aunt ordered a 2pc fish and chips, it looked delicious! They said it was super tasty! Our waitress was amazing and very personable! A wonderful experience! An observation: they are cleaning thoroughly between customers and actually letting the disinfectant sit on contact surfaces and do its work before wiping it away with paper towels, which I've noticed is not always the case in some restaurants. Great practices to help prevention. Will definitely be back again.

Me and my wife were looking for traditional English fish and chips, the stuff with a thin crispy batter vs the typical heavy breaded stuff you get everywhere else in NS, and let me tell you this is where its at! The fish and chips were some of the best I've had in years, and brought me back to when I used to live in the UK, but what's more is the staff were excellent and our waitress was very attentive to our requests and needs, plus our food came within 10 minutes of ordering, 2 pc and 3 pc fish and chips. The restaurant nautical theme is over the top, which is exactly what it should be, and what's more the pricing is some of the most reasonable around. 10 dollars for 2 pc fish and chips wit enough on the plate to satisfy a large man like myself. My wife is a small lady and was stuffed after eating half her portion. Bottom line is we'll be going again.

This had been a family favourite for some time but of late has become a bit of a running gag amongst us. They guard the tartar sauce like it was made caviar- it comes in a thimble and you have to ask over and over again for more. Next time I'm going to bring my own personal supply so I don't have to feel like a tartar sauce maniac. Apart from this issue the food is good and the staff is hands down some of THE greatest people I've ever been served by! Seriously- these people rock. EXTRA TAR TAR SAUCE. :)

Very very friendly reception. Staff were extremely pleasant and efficient. Went with my wife and two teenaged kids. We were all served at the same time just like at home which is important to us. I have eaten fish and chips in all corners of North America and the UK. Murphy's has got it right. This is the best fish and chips you can find. We all agreed. This was perfection. We all had the 3 piece haddock and chips. I can't imagine it gets better than this. Highly recommended. Looking forward to our next trip in the area. A must stop on your itinerary.

As an out of towner this is a must go, lasagna was kinda watery and maybe microwaved (sorry if I’m wrong) but it was homemade and a great value, they’ll also stuff you with bread and salad first. Enjoyed the lasagna more after sitting in my fridge for 4 days. It’s a feel good place that I will go to again before my time here is over.

A must stop when in Truro at the northern tip of Nova Scotia. Signs boast that they have the best fish and chips in Canada. A tall order but would tend to agree. Their chips were tasty, the fish was flaky and fresh, the clams were sweet! Stole the show from the haddock a little bit. Service was very friendly and homey. The owner who I'm assuming is named Murphy, was very welcoming and proud to take about his province. The dining area is nicely decorated with nautical references everywhere that only adds to the dining experience. Located along an unassuming strip mall but we were blown away after. Great!

If you want an amazing fish and chips, Murphy's Fish and Chips is the place to go! I knew from word of mouth (since Murphy's is a Truro classic) that their fish, along with the rest of their seafood would be fantastic. What really surprised me though was the quality of their fries! They are are now my favourite restaurant fries. I have never experienced such care and friendliness, and from all of the staff, not just my server. The staff here are the sweetest! The prices are perfectly reasonable and to top it off, the whole restaurant (very clean!) is aesthetically pleasing with a very strong sea side vibe.

One of the "BEST" Seafood (+ especially the fish !!) Restaurants in this area! And, given my 50 years of eating in some of Nova Scotia's finest restaurants, as well as many lesser, well-known little "jewels" that can be found all around the Atlantic provinces, I'd recommend this one with complete confidence. If you press me for any suggestions for improvement, it would be that I'd be happier + more satisfied if the clams were full ones(including stomachs), + not just the strips. But this is a personal preference, + the clams served are lovely. As I said, a minor concern; to me only, tho.

My son and I ate at Murphy’s approximately 2 weeks ago. We were each very hungry and ordered the two piece of fish with chips. The chips were good but the fish was amazing!! The batter was light and very tasty! At the suggestion of our excellent waiter, we finished off the meal with delicious coconut cream pie!! Overall a great meal at a very reasonable cost!! We’ll definitely be back for a return visit!!

It has been a few years since we have been to Murphy's, my kids requested to go when we were back in the area however something was different this time, definitely not as good as it was, that or there was an off day. As for gluten friendly options (I was diagnosed in the last year as having an intolerance) it was highly limited. We went to a fish and chip place a few weeks ago and the gf options in this smaller establishment were vast for it's size. I like the atmosphere of Murphy's however it is not feasible with the limited options on choice for gf.

Murphys has always been great, tonight was the first night I ordered the seafood platter. Wow, the plate was a huge fish about a foot in diameter. Shrimp, clams, scallops, a full piece of haddock and all breaded with fries and coleslaw. It was all great but the scollaps, when you bite into one the flavor was amazing, juicy and perfect. This place was great. Very clean and welcoming with pleasant staff. The food was cooked fresh and served promptly with a smile. Ordered the two piece fish and chips, both of which were perfectly cooked. Definitely a generous portion, I could barely finish it and left full and satisfied. In addition to the good food and friendly service, the owner was very friendly and had a refreshing outlook on running a successful business, which is probably why my experience was so memorable. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is a fish and chips lover, and even if you're not, they had a substantive menu so there is something for everyone. One of the tastiest meals I have had in a while, I will definitely go back again the next time I am in Truro.

The best fish and chips I've had in a long, long time. The staff was friendly, quick and hilarious. We took our meal to Kiwanis Park and enjoyed it in the sun. Would travel again, anytime for the awesome batter on the fish and chips. Well worth the money, you won't regret eating here.
