This was one of our favourite restaurants, so we were quick to choose Jack’s for dinner tonight. Quality of the food was very disappointing. Burger was tasteless and dry, halibut was very dry and gross. And the fries, worst fries we have ever eaten. None of us finished our meal, disgusting. Not sure if the pandemic has played a role in this massive reduction in the quality and taste, but if the business reads this, I’d suggest you have a look at what you are serving and make some much needed improvements.

We have our breakfast here every Sun when we are on our boat. They have incredible pancake, their buttermilk pancakes are so delicious and their blueberries pancakes are just perfect, the right amount of blueberries. We tried for dinner twice but never got in, the wait was too long for our hungry tummies, so we ended up munching down on whatever was available. Some of their staffs are super nice and some need to smile a little more.

Went here on a date. The washroom was disgusting, the food was poorly seasoned and quite pathetic as far as quality and quantity, and as much as it looked clean it just didnt feel comfy. The tables seemed way too narrow that you would be touching knees with the person across from you. The only good thing that got it 2 out of 5 stars is that the dessert was fairly good and we were told it was home made, it actually looked esthetically pleasing as well. Eventhough the dessert was pretty good, it wont be warranting a second date from me, will not be returning.

We were so looking forward to fish and chips for supper July 10/20 as take out Our order was placed at 4 pm, for pick up at 6 pm. We arrived at 5:50 pm, and took our meal straight home. What a disappointment.Fish shrivelled and cold.Fries the same.Coleslaw very warm. It appears the meal was prepared way too soon. Could not eat this soggy meal.

Went to eat on patio and patio was closed. Ordered online for my family. Order was wrong and missing items. When I called to get the issue fixed, it took another hour ( and another phone call) to get the correct food. So annoying for mediocre food. Will not be returning.

Disappointed with the service the waitress never returned to see if we wanted anything more. We ordered the 2 piece haddock dinner there was only a small amount of fries 1/2 the amount from usual. We complained about the fries. The waitress said, she would bring more but didnt! There were alot of waitresses not alot of customers and yet very bad service.

We were in there on a Saturday night about 8 pm one person ordered a Monterey Jack burger two ordered a chicken ceasar wrap First the waitress did not tell the person that the Monterrey jack burger was off the menu because we asked why there was no bacon second bit into it it was not cooked. The chicken ceasar wraps were so dry and didnt have the dressing in it and in fact one have no chicken as well. We use to go in there on a Saturday night but no longer. They didnt even cook another burger. And notice the cook carrying around a trash can to the front.

My waitresses was fantastic. She was friendly, helpful and a pleasure to have serving us. People like her are a major asset to any food service industry. The food however, was the worst l have eaten in Peterborough since the Piccadilly closed their doors on Landsdown Street. The fries were stuck together. Under fried , and having not been shacken while cooking, soaked in grease. In fact they were not even cooked! The fish, l ordered hailibit, was so old. It was not only dry and hard; it was completely tasteless. Reminded me of leather. My coleslaw was a poor excuse for food. It compromised uneditable portions of the heart of cabbage, and no colour....at first l thought it was a mistake, giving me the garbage. I am not going back anytime soon. Thanks

Delicious, fresh fish and a pleasant ambiance are hallmarks of this chain location. The haddock and catch of the day are well-prepared and the portions sizes are very good for the price. Both dine-in and takeout are available with ample seating inside, and the staff are very friendly and happy to assist! Definitely worth stopping by if you're in town!

I frequently order a “take out” breakfast here when visiting Peterborough. They are super friendly and fast as could be - the food is always hot /fresh and you get a good amount of it. When I go in to pick it up there always seems to be a steady flow of customers and the wait staff are always checking on their dine in customers to make sure everyone is good. Will be back! I am new to Peterborough and In checking out affordable & good food eateries I found Jack’s. Jack’s is a family atmosphere restaurant. The staff are most friendly and I always enjoy my meal whatever it happens to be. Most recently my visiting company & I had our. Thanksgiving meal there. Wow...it was delicious. Our compliments to the Chef, and also to our wonderful attentive waitress. So much food we ended up with dogggie bags. I would highly recommend Jack’s especially to Peterborough’s Seniors. They offer great affordable delicious specials to Seniors.

I'm starting to think that maybe this place may be somewhat hit or miss. Maybe the cooks were having an off day. My wife and I went in on a rainy, cool day when a nice chowder might really warm one up and hit the spot. Sadly, the chowder was seriously lacking. It had a strange watery appearance, and wasn't at all creamy like a chowder, in my opinion, should be. My wife described it as dish water mixed with a can of tuna. Ordered some onion rings aswell, they looked great, but unfortunately they tasted as though they were overly saturated with grease to a point where they were not at all edible. The fish and chips however were satisfactory. It should also be noted that our waitress on 2 or 3 occasions stood behind my partner and talked only to me, instead of standing at our table so that she could engage with both of us. It was in a word.... Strange... And unprofessional. I'd rather offer up a 2 1/2 star rating if I could. We've had better luck at the Lakefield location.

Great food variety that doesn't compromise the quality. The front of the restaurant makes the place look very small at first glance. Walk in and you realize that the capacity is far more accomodating than one would think possible with such a narrow entrance. Great place to eat/drink on the patio in the summer.

First off, the staff are exceptional and the food is first rate. But, I paid dearly yesterday for my love of halibut: $30 for 2 pieces of fish is a bit much. I understand the economics, but is it always necessary, in these soon to be hyper-inflationary times, to pass on every extra nickel of added cost to your business to the consumer? There is indeed a point of diminishing returns. Great fish though!

Service is okay but food is subpar at best. Not understanding the hype of this place. Vegetarian pad thai was a weird bright orange colour and was sickly sweet. It only had one piece of broccoli in it, along with some cucumbers and lettuce which belongs nowhere in a pad Thai dish. Halloumi fried cheese was good, leaning onto salty but was fine otherwise, not sure why the dipping sauces were served in plastic containers when we are dining on the patio...the plastic is just going to go straight to the landfill... I'm sure for drinks and pub style food this place would be fine, but I don't think we'll be back.

One of the best places in Peterborough to have breakfast. Great food great price and awesome service. Always grab the Breakfast special or pancakes. It's all good. Would recommend this place as great place and for summer they have an outside patio. Perfect if you need the fresh air. Spent another evening here for a late supper. Burger and fries was awesome. We visited July 16th at 5:00pm. We were really looking forward to having a sit down meal out for the 1st time in almost 4 months & decided to check out the patio. Sign outside south entrence said patio was OPEN & to enter from George st entrence. We walked over & were told they were closing the patio due to the possibility of poor weather on the way. Sky looked cloudy, but didnt look like any chance of precipitation in the next 1/2 hour. ( to me anyways) She told us we could go in & place a take out order if we wished.We went in, placed order- sign was still outside saying patio open. We were told it would be ready in 10 minutes. Stepped out side to wait- ( physical distancing)& they were seating a group of 4 on the patio. 4 minutes after being told they were closing it! When I went back in to pick up my order, it wasnt ready yet. . Finally got it after another 10 minute wait . Asked her about the Flip Flop on the patio being open or closed. She asked if I'd like to speak to a manager & I asked if he/she was the person that made the decision about the patio & she said no. Why would I want to speak to a manager then? We took our take out order over to littlle lake ( 3 minutes away) everything was hot including my cloeslaw. Asked for bacon on 1 of the orders, didn't get it. Overall we are very displeased with staff, service & the product.

My husband, grandmother and I showed up to Jack's for lunch after a busy day on the golf course. We were met with a line and a large sign that said they were short cooks and staff that day. I appreciated the fact that the restaurant was upfront with their situation. The line did move fairly quickly as well - we waited maybe 10 mins in total before being seated. The greeter (who was also waitressing that day) was doing her absolute best to keep everyone moving during rush hour (was about 12:30pm when we arrived). The food itself was okay. To be fair, it IS a fish and chip restaurant and I ordered a chicken quesadilla. I'm sure if I liked fish I would have enjoyed it - my grandma did! I would definitely go back and try something different next time I'm in town.

Had Sunday brunch on the patio. Got there around 11:30 am and got a table right away. Service was great. Jack's Eggs Benedict were very tasty and my husband enjoyed his Western Omelet. We tried out this restaurant a week ago. The kids loved their generous portion of grilled cheese and fries. And since they were out of the fruit dessert, they were able to choose any of the flavoured ice cream. I ordered the chicken wrap, and partway through 1/2 of the wrap, I felt something very chewy ungiving texture. I spat it out and there was a wet paper that resembled a receipt/print out among the lettuce part of my wrap. Upon further examination of the lettuce part of my wrap, I pulled out the remaining piece of the receipt paper. My appetite was gone by then! I spoke to the server who took it back to the kitchen. She tried very hard to make amends by offering a complimentary pie or ice-cream. She did help it end on a good note. Warning! Check your food before your eat it.

I visited on March 12th, service by Barb was perfect and I do not know the cooks name but it was the best spinach and feta omelette that I have ever had. Everything on the plate was perfect and price was good. I have hesitated to go in this place for breakfast because it seems like their sign boasts chicken and ribs, but it was a positive breakfast experience. I will be back.

On Aug 15 a group of 6 had an early supper at the Lighthouse which it a part of Jacks Rest I assume because the menu has Jack's logo. Around 4:30 a young couple came in he was shirtless and was carrying a 3 ft snake which he proceeded to lay on the table. 3 things...No shirt No Service no snakes and they sure didnt look 19 when he ordered a double Cesar. Our first time in Peterborough but we are quite familiar with the Lakefield location. Safety protocol ... awesome! Same for the wait staff! D and another friend K would suggest their meals were 5 star efforts. Mine was a completely different experience, unfortunately, had the festive special. The chicken was fine. The stuffing was kinda scary in appearance and even more so regarding taste. The baked potato, great in size was wasn't quite cooked enough. I enjoyed the dessert, sorry forgot the name of it. D had the salmon on the caesar salad and was more than pleased. Can't recall K's choice of dinner but was also pleased. Wondered if it was the regular chef on this Monday night.

Fish & chips was well portioned, hot, crisp, light, fluffy. Fries and coleslaw was nice too. Hot hamburger comes on a garlic bread with beef patties, onion, mushroom, topped with gravy. The patties a bit dry, gravy was quite good and will be great if on a poutine. Better to order a normal hamburger instead. The chowder soup was passable, give it a miss.

Close to the water and park where plenty of events happen. My only complaint was that the A/C wasn't really sufficient and it felt a little warm (though not uncomfortable), but it was a heat wave outside. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

Wife and I have been to Captains Jacks many times in market plaza. We've always enjoyed the fish and chips as they're always pretty good. This is the first time I decided to try something different and had the ribs 1/2 rack with bbq sauce and 1/4 chicken combo. First off, the chicken was a big portion for it being only 1/4 piece. And it was also a nice size rib portion. But the chicken seemed really dry, maybe it was because I got white meat but I don't know. It was a bit of a struggle to eat it all. (I was really hungry) The ribs though...were delicious. Fall of the bone good, really quite tender, but could have used more sauce. I also for the first time there ordered gravy. Which was not good. I wished I had tasted it first before putting it on my fries, it had NO flavour and more salt didn't help. My wife ordered Fish with Onion rings instead of fries. She absolutely loves the rings there as they are quite good. But this time she commented that the fish seemed dry too. While I did eat most of what was on my plate (hungry, like I said) I think, from now on I'll probably just stick with the fish and chips (without gravy) when I go there as they rarely disappoint. The waitress was pretty good, but I wish they would ask how the meal is when our mouths aren't full. If she had asked when I could speak I would have told her my thoughts instead of just a wave. But I guess that's a hard thing to gauge..lol.

Today on Sunday Oct. 24 ,2020. 3 of us dined for an early supper. We found our fish portions of halibut very small in comparison to the last time we dined here in this past summer on patio. Our fries were horrible ;mostly reheated and burnt. The halibut was dry inside. I don’t think a free piece of pie can make up for the disappointment of our dinner. I declined my free dessert. So I called to get a delivery Jack's Family Restaurant told me I can get a delivery I told them where I was I was just on the other side of Television Road first of all they tell me it's an $8 delivery after I told him I can get it cheaper three minutes later they call me back offered me $5 delivery so was this business in the business to try and make money and make deals and negotiate or do they actually have a set price as a paying customer of Jack's Family Restaurant I've been very faithful I think their food is awesome after that phone call I don't think I'll ever deal with Jacks again Peterborough or Norwood and Lakefield I think that service was absolutely ridiculous

Just left this great establishment a few minutes ago. I've been to Peterborough many times throughout my life, but this is the first time we have been to Jack's. I will definitely be back. The food was fantastic, the portions were surprisingly large, and the customer service was great. Our party had Hannah checking in on us – she is great at her job and was a joy to interact with. First visit to Jack's. Enjoyed a late lunch here yesterday with my mother who's been before. The restaurant was almost half full which made me think the food must be good as it was late in the afternoon and a weekday. Upon entering I noticed a clean and casual atmosphere. We were greeted and seated promptly, drinks came fast and so did the food. Our server was very pleasant. I ordered the black bean burger (veggie burger) with a side Greek salad. There was an extra charge for the Greek but I was really craving it so I didn't care. The burger also came with a second side (coleslaw or baked beans). Although I didn't want more food, I chose the beans. Presentation was beautiful. The burger was really good and on a brioche-style bun. All of the toppings were very fresh. I'm not a huge fan of baked beans but I tried them. I'm sure any bean connoisseurs out there would enjoy them. They also seemed very fresh and made right there. The Greek salad was amazing and huge for a side portion. I left the dressing on the side and saved half the salad for today. It was just as delicious - crisp lettuce, veggies, real Kalamata olives and a perfect creamy/oily dressing. I would go back just for the salad - it was that good. My mom had the special which was peameal (sp?) bacon on a bun with coleslaw and fries. I nibbled on her fries which were really good. Although she wasn't very hungry to start with, she ate almost everything on her plate and kept saying that it was all just so good. She told me she's been for breakfast before and also had their fish and everything was tasty. I thought the prices were fair. The washroom was clean and the service was pretty good. My only complaint is that the server never returned to the table until we were all done. We didn't need anything and the meals were perfect but I want the server to check in at least once, just in case. I noticed rotisserie chickens cooking in the back and out front was a case of pies (homemade?). If I'd had room I would have tried one. I will be definitely be coming back here.
