What a pleasant surprise ! Placed 4 orders of gluten free halibut and chips and it was absolutely perfect ! The pricing was very reasonable unlike other GF fish and chip shops I have been too ... I recommend that you get the family size if you are ordering up 5 halibut ... You do get more chips plus a cake (for the non celiac in your house) and you save a few bucks ... I will definitely be coming back to try their in-house mini gluten free donuts !!! The ladies who served me were lovely and knowledgeable and took the time to answer my questions ... They also welcomed me to the neighborhood which was very kind ! See you again soon !!!

I went in and ordered a large order of fries to go. The blonde lady asked how many people? I said I would like a large fry to go. She said if you tell me for how many people I can tell you how much to order. My reply was "I only asked for a large fry to go" and I left. Wow. Is it so difficult to just give the customer what they ask for? I grabbed subs at Mr. Sub next door, they never asked how many people were eating.

Most amazing fish u have ever had. Fluffy, crisp halibut and the coleslaw, fresh French fries are amazing! tartar sauce is a different batch from the rest made with hellmans mayonnaise and they use non garlic pickles because the fermenting process doesn't involve malt vinegar. I haven't eaten onion rings in 6 years and they were unbelievably delicious. Their gravy is vegetarian safe and nice to use as a dip as it is light in flavour and offers that creamy component you want with fries and onion rings. complete Celiac safe. they explained how they Actually had to celiac association ok their menu and items as well as process to ensure the highest promise for non cross contamination for severe celiac. I was in there for no more then 10 minutes and a man had come in to pick up his order and his wife's gluten free chicken fingers and fries, a matter of minutes later a woman walked in and raved about how wonderful and safe their options are. Apologies from staff, managers at restaurants that have cross contamination incidents is unexceptable to this facility. Fun Fact the reason their fish and chips rock is because they actually purchased a special industrial fryer for their gluten free menu because gluten free flour needs to fry at a high temperature to reach that desired golden delicious crisp. They offer full disclosure on all processes of cooking and their celiac safe area is on the other side of the gluten area ensuring optimal safety. I had a staff member cook tell me how a woman hadn't eaten out at a restaurant in 25 years she is severely sensitive and goes there all the time. I verify this fact since I am severely sensitive and will become severely ill within minutes of being exposed to the slightest amount of gluten! Enjoy, I will be going ritually now ????????

C C A AWARD for SCHOONERS--CHEERFUL CHARLIE AWARD I have used SCHOONERS fish and chips for 5 years now Started when I found they were only Chip Shop in town that had GLUTEN FREE SEPARATE COOKERS and PRODUCTS which is great for my wife who is GLUTEN Intollerant. Their menu has expanded to 5 kinds of fish, daily and weekly cost saving specials, a variety of fried Onion rings, Chicken Fingers or Nuggets, Shrimp, Scallops, Clams, Pogos, Cheeseballs and Mushrooms, 3 kinds of Salads , Croquettes and Donuts. Smells just like the British Chip shops I love abroad AND TASTES JUST AS GOOD!! Wife appreciates GLUTEN FREE and I love REGULAR and we both like the SPECIALS!.... Staff are like old friends. They even remind me when I miss picking what is On SPECIAL My name is Charlie and I give SCHOONERS the CHEERFUL CHARLIE AWARD!!

They have great food, but the lady with the short white hair is extremely rude. My boyfriend and I wanted to order mini donuts and she flat out told us no, because she hadn't set it up. Ok?It wasn't busy either. The other girl there was nice and seemed just as confused by her saying no. It was disappointing. We ordered the mini donuts later that night online, and they were delivered. Not sure why she had to be so ignorant.

They have house specials daily which are very economical. Very good fish and chips, mind you I'm a halibut person, the haddock is exceptional as well. Very friendly service should you attend the location, extremely accommodating.

My hopes were maybe too high. I have celiac disease and this was my first fish and chips(plus onion rings) in 7 years. We live out if town so this was a special trip. Fish was dry and chewy. Maybe it was cooked too far ahead. We will try again but only if we are in the area. Onion rings were fantastic! Gluten free tartar sauce was worth paying extra.

By far the worst i have ever had. its not that hard to batter a peice of fish and drop it in the deep fryer fresh for a customer. Schooners is a great small place to grab some good fish and chips. Note that Schooners doesn't really have any dine-in experience. It is strictly take-out, for the most part. The fish itself is quite good, and the batter is quite airy. Depending on your taste, you may love this or simply enjoy it. The french fries are amazing - so soft, smooth in your mouth. However, this all comes at a price - not physical, since the prices are actually quite fair. Everything is totally SOAKED with grease. Some people don't really care about this, but I've had a better experience with better tasting fish at one of the Halibut House locations; particularly the restaurant on 288 Bloor Street West. Its very loosely franchised, so your experience may vary widely by location, but that particular spot was incredible. One of the best places around, with courteous and informative staff. I would recommend going there!

I walked into the restaurant and grabbed a menu, looking for the gluten free options. The worker came over and rudely demanded to know what i wanted. She was so rude that I would have left without ordering but I was with friends, so I stayed. I had the gluten free halibut and chips. It was extremely expensive and way too greasy. It was so greasy that I couldnt eat the batter. I will not eat here again. Bad service and gross food!

The gluten free fish and chips are outstanding. Definitely worth the visit if you are celiac. My wife is celiac so we try a lot of different gf options and this place is one of the best. Everything is well labelled and separated etc. Even as someone who can handle gluten I was impressed by the fish.

There is an older lady that serves customers and should be removed from this role immediately as she just seems miserable every time i visit this location. I took my hard of hearing mother there this weekend and it was a nightmare of an experience only heightened by the rude lady behind the counter. There are a lot of options for fish & chips in this general area and if you want a pleasant person to greet you and take your order than i would keep driving and pass this place.

My husband and I saw an advertisement/coupon for this place, on it clearly stated how they offered gluten free options, that was when we decided we had to give this place a try. I am gluten intolerant and it is always great when I see a place that not only serves gluten free options, but dedicates special machinery and counter tops to prevent cross contamination. When we got there I ordered the Halibut and chip and my husband got the Chicken Fingers and chips, both with gluten free batter. Let me tell you, both were so amazingly delicious! The battery was so light and crunchy, the fish was moist and soft, the chicken finger batter was wonderfully seasoned. The chips were great, but the main course stole the show. My husband and I both agreed this was the best we have probably ever had. Give this place a try! You won't regret it! They also have a lot of other gluten free options that we will be trying out, such as their donuts, cookies, onion rings, and even their new corn dog!

This place had a major renovation around summer 2018 and it looks great. There is now seating and accessible bathrooms. Chips have changed too with large pub style fries and it holds the fryer heat. The highlight of this place is the gluten free menu with dedicated fryer, serving baskets, and even condiments. Fish tastes fresh and fries are right out of the fryer hot. They have a special gluten free certification and training. This is one place worth visiting from Toronto.

I called 3 times to make an order, when they picked up they put me on hold, after waiting 7 minutes or so I hung up. Drove to store and made my order of haddock and chips. I mentioned the phone incident, politely, she just shrugged her shoulders and said it's busy. The fish batter was HARD and the filet inside was HARD and almost razor thin. Poor service and poor quality.

I kept seeing the sign for the for the mini donuts and wanted to try them. Came in and they had maybe five different sugar flavours and the donuts were made fresh and were very good. I definitely recommend trying them and they currently have an apple cinnamon sugar topping that is good but the chocolate is amazing.

What appeared to be a large portion of halibut for $16 turned out to be an overly thick, salty and crunchy slab of batter with a very thin piece of fish inside. Fries were okay but not crispy. Gravy was terribly gelatinous. This was a great place for fish and chips a decade or so ago, but not so much now.

Ordered halibut and chips with a side of gravy. The batter was soggy and kind of bread-like, it kind of just fell off the fish as I was eating it which was disappointing. Fries were good and gravy didn’t have dairy which was pleasantly surprising. Service was friendly and the person we spoke with was knowledgeable about ingredients and food sensitivities which we appreciated.

We have been here often over the years. The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly. This is a family run business that has been here for almost 50 years. While I have no problem with gluten, I can certainly appreciate how awesome it is that they are gluten free for those who need this. Just remember it is pickup only, not eat-in, and you will have a great experience.

They have a dedicated gluten free fryers so those of us who have celiac disease can have this treat. Fish - not quite as good as the real deal but still really good. Onion rings - get them! They are massive and delicious. Husband had the regular version of fish and chips and said it was great.

not good, had the halibut, super thick very salty batter, extremely dark chips which means they used cheaper older potatoes (too high sugar content which happens in potatoes either old or not stored well). Onion rings not great despite being the thick style I prefer. Poor not new that day oil quality (tallow/beef drip) and at too low a temperature so was all far too greasy. I prefer the style across the road as their cut of fish is a bit better with a lot thinner batter.

Heaven for celiacs. From fryers to batter to comdiments/sauces they have a complete list of gluten free items. Their fish and chips are yummy and staff was so so careful about what a celiac might demand. They wash their hands every single time they handle every other food. Highly recommended.

This place is horrible!!! We were excited to try the gluten free options but we were sorely dissapoineted!!! The fish, (both gluten free and regular), the fries, and the onion rings were SO GREASY!!! The coleslaw was like soup and the macaroni salad had so much pepper in it it was so hard to eat!! We wanted to place an order over the phone and we were told we couldn't when we called. When we went into the restaurant to place the order, we over heard the same woman taking orders over the phone!!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! When we told them they had bad customer service they told us to go elsewhere to order fish and chips!!! Well, next time we will be going elsewhere!!! Never will we order from here again and will not recommend this place to anyone.....in fact we will be telling people to avoid it!!! NO STARS!!!!

Schooner is a well-run, friendly restaurant which specializes in large portions of fish with generously-cut fries. The coleslaw is yummy, with a nice zing to the flavors. They are well organized for covid but the outdoor seating in the parking lot with wasps is not ideal for comfort.

I had read the reviews on this restaurant, so I called the store and spoke with Tiffany who was amazing in customer service to answer all my questions (I also called at a very busy time and she was extremely professional in a time that can be very stressful) . We ordered 4 fish and chips, gravy, tarter sauce and cheese balls. I had 6 people here to try it and it was amazing. Nothing was greasy, fish and chips were perfect. Gravy was perfect, cheese balls were gone in 1 minute. Highly recommend this store, we will be ordering from them again.

While in Oshawa yesterday I stopped in here for supper and was beyond impressed. Having been diagnosed with Celiac disease almost a year ago, eating out is a bit of a disaster. The gluten free menu options are fantastic, the food was delicious and I was just so completely impressed with the care and consideration that was put into the meal to ensure that I was able to have a safe eating experience (right down to designated salt, pepper and ketchup containers)

Just ordered schooners through Just Eat, absolutely the best fish and poutine I've ever had delivered. Fish was nice and crispy (not soggy as most places with delivery), poutine was very well layered with plenty cheese and gravy. Absolutely the best fish and chips place to order from!

If I could give it a zero I would. I ordered from this place on Doordash. I use the app very often and this was the worst meal I’ve ever ordered through them. The cod was flavourless, overcooked and unpleasantly greasy. The fries were burnt with not one grain of salt on them. The mushrooms had the overwhelming flavour of old grease. The shrimp was almost burnt, dry and flavourless, and the entire order was poorly packaged. I demanded a full refund from Doordash. Not even the fact that it ended up being free made this ok to eat. Could not even get through this “meal.” We threw most of it out.

We ordered 12 dozen gluten free donuts for Sierra’s graduation celebration. Sierra is celiac and her favourite place to find gluten free treats is Schooners Fish and Chips. As always, she loved the donuts and gave them a thumbs up ???????? I would like to thank all the staff for putting effort into making them look so beautiful!???? Shout out to Cathy for her hard work and great customer service! 10/10 would recommend! I’ve been a customer of Schooners for many years and they never fail to impress!
