I've heard good things. I tried it for the first time and stuff was chewy/stale like they precooked it and put it back in the fryer for our order. I'll still try them again, it could've just been an off day. Portions were enormous, so you're definitely getting your money's worth in that sense. Staff were also really friendly.

Disliked it. Never been for breakfast before not impressed with food homefries tasted frozen. Bacon was cold and likely cooked hours before. The best part of the whole meal was the can of pop and toast I dont recommended going for breakfast. The service was great but food was poor and the reason you go is for food

We had the seafood platter. Generous portion sizes. First time customer. Staff very friendly and courteous. Fish and chips was OK. But I’m a Brit so I from the home of fish and chips. Please guys incorporate a halal/kosher friendly breakfast menu. The rating is to do with the food and not the service or staff. Staff and service is 5 star hands down.

Eating at Halibut House is a big occasion for me: a sit down meal with a server serving. The price reflects that; dinner isn't cheap. I suspect that the price is a good deal less than many restaurants though. I like the big bright open area, with high ceilings. I like that I can have the fish grilled, with cole slaw on the side. There are far more delicious thick fries on the plate than I probably ought to eat. The fries can be ordered without salt, so, a low in salt meal is possible. The people working there have been engaging, and, friendly, challenging both my thinking, and, speaking, skills. Thanks, Halibut House.

I came last Saturday and someone ordered 15 orders before me. The service was good, the food when I got home was shimmy and unbeatable. I ordered 3 halibut with chips, chips were good but the fish was not cooked. I can't see that I would return again and I'd you do go, make sure they don't have any big orders before you. Good luck on your visit, try another place that takes pride in there foods

Normally come for breakfast and it's usually good. Today not so much. The omelet was disgusting. The cheese wasnt even melted and the bacon was cold and oily. Very disappointed. For $30 I'd rather of gonna to Dennys. And the service continues to lack.

This was the cleanest restaurant that I have been to looked lime there as a real pride. Everyone who spoke with me was both polite and wanted to make sure my time was spent pleasantly. The food was fine it was served quick in was arrange attractively and hot. The cost of the breakfast was only $3.49! Wow!!

After hearing their jingle on the radio for a few months I decided to finally give them a try. This particular one seemed dated. Old furniture and the stench of and old mop or dirty watered rag used to clean the table. That alone almost made me walk out. I stayed since I already ordered. The fish was nice. Batter was light and not overpowering. Since they are a chain resto as I've seen 2 in Kingston Rd, I will give the other one a try.

The order of chips is huge! About 4 large potatoes worth! Not hot enough though. Fish, halibut or haddock (cod also) was hot, tasty. perhaps a little too much oil in the batter. Good take out service, but they don't offer to put salt or malt vinegar on before wrapping up.

WOW! $7 Haddock and chips special on Sunday and Monday is amazing value!!! The Halibut House is not stingy on portion size either for their special! Most of the time you get the special and its half the size or something else but not this one! OK on to the food, just look at the pic, the haddock was perfectly fried, not too greasy and the batter was crisp and light, and a good size portion of Haddock too. The fries were fresh fried and super hot and crispy! The coleslaw is a basic one...but hey for $7 I'm not going to complain. Amazingly fresh and tasty, all the complainers on here can go somewhere else...I'll keep coming here!!!

Clean bright Halibut House is amazing with friendly staff and delicious fish dishes. My favourite is the Lunch special for under $10 you receive beautifully cooked halibut lots of French fries and fantastic coleslaw. Always great food every time!

The wife ordered halibut and chips I ordered cheese burger with onion rings. I had one bite of a tasteless burger patty and two onion rings then spent the rest of the time wiping a layer of grease off of my lips. The wife forced herself to eat the fish and left an entire plate of overly greasy fries. It cost 42 dollars and weended up grabbing a slice of pizza on the way home to fill our bellys

Sorry to say....I was not happy at all. The fries were not cooked through, the halibut was really greasy. On the positive side, the slab of halibut was a really nice size. $20 for 1 piece of fish and a boxful of fries and a coleslaw. Sorry guys, I wont be back.

Cheap take out brews, generous portions, and a great staff all make a new entry into the go-to fish and chips in Southern Scarborough. Too bad the pandemic hit as this place is a real boon to the community with its friendly atmosphere and breakfasts now no long the same. H.H is a great place to really fill up your family on some comfort fried fishies. Just remember to ask for extra tartar sauce, at least I can never get enough!

Great fish and chips, poor customer service. Expect to wait a minimum 10 minutes to be greeted after you sit yourself. They will serve the walk-in takeout customers first over the sit-in diners. Have to ask for cutlery. Recommendation to the owner: retain the kitchen staff\cook, train or hire better servers.

Also open for dine-in. Went to the only other Halibut House for dine-in so didn't want to order same thing. Weird that McD in neighbourhood isn't even open for walk in service, let alone dining in, but these two independently owned and operated places are (area left lockdown week or so ago as of this visit). Remember to support your local businesses! Ordered dish that was removed from menu but they could still make it! (not telling :-) and that gets them the fifth star! I usually only give 4 because there is always room for improvement but these guys went out of their way to make money today.

First time trying this place and happened to show up on a Wednesday, when fish tacos were on special for, I believe, $1 or $2 each. Doesn't matter, either way, it was a deal. I believe you also needed to purchase a beverage. The portions were huge, prices reasonable, and it met every expectation I had of a fish and chips place. No complaints and would return again.

I walked around looking for a place to eat as my car was getting the brakes replaced I stumbled upon this place which looks like a cute little local place to eat as the place was about 60% full. I ordered the lunch special; Lunch Sized Halibut & Chips w/ Coleslaw $10.95. Food came in less that 3 minutes. Staff was very friendly and the portion is a decent size. Nothing too over the top but really great to try/eat at every now and then.

Pretty disappointing. Our regular fish and chip place was closed and decided to try here. It was very greasy, and bland tasting. We got the 2 halibut 1 chip take out, and I am 100% positive this is not halibut. It doesn’t taste right, and furthermore it looks like strips of white fish flattened together. Will not be returning. Lesson learned.

A while back, my colleague/friend visited the restaurant as part of our fish & chips exploration in the area. This was a nice restaurant. I liked the food but my friend didn't. The chocolate milk I ordered was smaller than kids size I finished it in two seconds. It was an alright atmosphere but your either a trucker or a hillbilly if you fit in. Very limited low-calorie options and excessively pricey. Grilled halibut was very dry and quite bland. Garden salad is literally just lettuce with a miniscule amount of tomato and cucumber. Dressings all come in at high calorie, too. A single, small grilled filet of halibut and garden salad came to over 20 bucks with tax! I'll be back for the Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes on a cheat day, though. ????

Get a salad BUT NOT THE FRIES!! The fries are horrible, super dry and mostly burnt, the oil used is days old you can taste it. The lady at the front is not helpful at all. She doesn't even try to give you options or try and understand what you ask for, she cut me off three times insisting I order the fish with fries and now I know why cause they either had a bad batch of fries and took advantage of the fact that I was not familiar with their menu. The grilled fish is not worth it either, has no flavour not even salt and pepper??

Halibut House ran a coupon in last Saturday's Toronto Sun , it was two halibut dinners for $18 , dine in or take out. So I told my waitress I'll have one here and one to go. She said I don't know , I'll have to check with the manager. So after about ten minutes ,she gets it okd. Unfortunately the chips where not cooked enough, the potatoes were hard , and the size of the halibut ridiculously small. Not impressed at all

We ordered delivery and it was not a good choice. The fish was at least 2:1 batter to fish (despite their description of "light" batter), overcooked, dried out, and chewy as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The fries were cold and also chewy. Best part was the packaged tartar sauce and pre-prepared coleslaw. Won't be ordering here again!

Horrific ! My husband went in and ordered 2 - 2pc Halibut and chips for take out and gave them a generous tip ! Get it home - not what we ordered - got 2 - 1pc fish and chips . The fish is definitely not halibut - it was a pressed flat square! Called them about correcting our order and got told we could SAVE the other ones for another time ! What ! How does that work ! That doesn’t feed my family of four NOW ! Sorry- it was good before Covid but now .. won’t bother wasting my time .

Service staff are amazing, good menu with some variations away from fish/seafood. Part of a chain so food quality is consistent. Sunday / Monday they have $10 Haddock and chips with coleslaw. Top 5 deals in the city hands down. Portions are very generous. That deal and the staff who are efficient and friendly keep me coming back. Oh, and the battered mushrooms on occasion.

Been there twice, once for haddock and chips and scallop and rings. Second time haddock and chips with gravy and colslaw salad. Seem the colslaw and gravy comes in only one size (medium). Good portion of fish and chips, scallops little small in size but good, and staff also friendly. I dropped it to 3 stars from 5 because the last time I went and ordered the house special and asked for the Greek salad instead of the house salad they said it would be $2 extra but their website said any salad, didn't say anything about extra charge. $2 doesn't mean much considering i always leave a $2 to $5 tip (depending on total) for take out, it's just the principle of it.

I quite like this place. Convenient location and plenty of free parking, fries are awesome and fish is good too. Sure it's a bit oily, but it's fish and chips! I've been there a few times and the food seems to get better every time. Love their $7 haddock and chips special on Sundays and Mondays. January 2018 edit: had the fish chowder this evening and it was horrible. A few tiny pieces of fish, pieces of potatoes, in a thick corn starch chicken broth. Do not get the chowder. Haddock and chips still good; very generous portion.

If I was able to give a no star opinion I would.. I have ordered from here multiple times and the staff has always been very nice and welcoming. The last time I went and will never go again the staff was clueless and not very nice. I go to order takeout Halibut and poutine. I ask for extra cheese and gravy because you don't put a lot on in the first place but if she could layer it and she was confused and said we don't know how to do that so I explained half of the fries, then cheese, gravy and then fries, cheese and gravy so the cheese and gravy was spread out throughout the fries. The girl then replied and said oh we don't do that.. I thought it was about the customer and what they want? If I'm paying for extra cheese and gravy and if I'm paying close to $20 for my food I want it how I like it.. so since the girl was rude I didn't order anything and I left.. after saying it's fine I'm not going to order anything all she said was "okay" no "sorry" or okay we can try and make it, nothing.. very disappointment, it's not rocket science especially when I litterally told her how to make it

Was surprised at how big this restaurant actually is inside. The place is clean and staff is friendly but the food severely lacks taste. We went in for breakfast, ordered the pancakes with chocolate chips, french toast, orange juice, and coffee. Serving size is huge but sadly there is no flavour. Thought the orange juice would be fresh or at least a Tropicana, but I was handed a bottle of orange cocktail. Lame, especially for a breakfast/brunch restaurant and for the price charged. French toast was soggy, didn't have the nice crucnh on the outside and needed cinnamon or some sort of flavour to mask the egginess. Pancakes were massive but again no taste and barely any chocolate chips in them (which they charge extra for). Servers never check on how you are doing or offer the coffee refills but if you call them up, they do help and are cordial. Wouldn't go back.

I have eaten at the halibut house for breakfast which is delicious and plentiful.And I've had dinner there also.Last night I ordered fish and chips.It was so delicious.Usually I had haddock but I had the 44.00 meal with the fish and three orders of chips.It was very delicious and I'm picky about my fish.And the order was huge.I recommend if you like fish and chips.Try any of the halibut houses .All day breakfasts and also other food on the menu ,hamburgers,slavoki dinners and the salads are amazing.Check it out.You will be happy.By the way I've also had the fish the shrimp the scallops chips and coleslaw meal.Yummy.????And yes you can order by phone for pick up.I don't know why that woman said that???

The seafood platter was a good way to go with big juicy battered shrimp & scallops along with the halibut and chips. I’ve had better chips, they could be more crisp. The inside is cute casual, like a nice diner, and very clean. The service staff weren’t great. There was no one else in the place and they were sitting in a booth chatting. When I came in no one spoke to greet me although one got up to serve me she acted like I was disturbing them. As I waited for my takeout they went back to sitting and talking with all kinds of profanity. I’m not easily offended but it seemed inappropriate. There didn’t appear to be a manager or lead server, which maybe could help. However since it was a slow night I understand why it doesn’t make sense to have a lot of staff working. All in all a good spot for quality tasty fish & chips.

I went with my partner and our daughter. The high chairs where nice and clean, the service was fast and efficient. We got the Haddock special and as a person who doesn't like Haddock this changed my perception of the fish completely. The place is getting popular real fast. Definitely give it a shot.

Sad to say that I did not come out happy with my dining experience. The service was good as well as the restaurant's cleanliness. It was the value for food that got me disappointed. What we ordered was the Shrimp & scallop combo ($18.95) and the Fish tacos (3 pcs for $9.95). Even more than what can be expected, both dishes tasted quite the same fried, battery taste. There were also way too much fries in the Shrimp & scallop combo meal. For the total price we paid versus what we had in terms of taste & portion sizes, it was not something I can recommend for everyone.

As a contractor, I find myself eating out often, specifically with regards to breakfast. I've been told i am the pickiest person ever when it comes to eggs. This place has made the best eggs I've ever had. I can't believe a place with a title for fish and chips offered this. Large plate with lots of “Chips”. Good sized fish, but could’ve had a bit more batter for my personal taste. Fries were average, as was the coleslaw. Service was good though, got my food within 10 minutes of ordering and waitress checked up on me frequently. They need better tartar sauce. Overall I left full and content. Would come again. Just had the Halibut and chips with a ceasar salad with a side order of garlic bread and cheese delivered through Uber Eats. The cost was just over $36 and that's with free delivery. It looks like the garlic bread was just a hot dog bun and the Halibut fish was a nice big piece but the batter taste bland. Lots of fries but again taste bland and dry. Good portions but a little pricey especially for the poor quality.

This locàtion has sufficient parking, the employees are super friendly and caring of their customers. They go out of their way to make sure your safe when leaving, witnessed the waitress making sure a customer didn't slip on the snowy parking lot when getting in their car, she came outside to extend a hand, customer was grateful, but didn't need help. We usually go to a rival fish & chippy up the road called Duc******s as it serves an excellent product but decided to check this place out and surprisingly found the food here was even better. Not only was the portion size bigger and the prices better but the staff was attentive, friendly, welcoming and fast. Even though we love the food we always feel slightly unwelcome at the rival chippy. I don't know why that is, It's just a feeling we all get when we eat there, but at Halibut House, at least at the Kingston Rd. location, we were made to feel like we were welcomed regular customers, on our first visit. As for the meal; the batter was crisp and light with two big portions of delicious fresh halibut underneath , the Greek salad was bright and fresh with loads of feta and the fries where cooked to perfection, with unlimited tartar sauce thats tangy instead of sickly sweet. Best fish and chips in TO hands down.

Nice portion sizes of fish fillet with chips. Service though, quite slow and inattentive as the place wasn't really that busy at the time. Spending more time with chatting with some of the usual patrons than tending to others' dining needs there. Like the specials with the buy one get one free plate deals. Only thing, the breakfast special would be great if it came with an extra egg in it for a bit more in the price of the special and if they could substitute maybe extra home fries or toast or egg instead of bacon for those who don't eat pork or meat in general; would be nicely appreciated. Overall really impressed with the really nice interior decor and colour scheme. Very clean and good-looking dining room. Hope they can consider these suggestions to make it even better to visit more often. Place has plenty of potential to thrive in the community there tremendously with such measure taken. :)

My friends went in for fish and chips today and both ordered iced tea. They said it tasted like chemicals and the lady took it off the bill. They were nothing but respectful and even gave a nice tip regardless. An hour later one became violently ill. And my other friend is 9 months pregnant and is extremely scared of getting sick as well. She didn’t drink as much of it as my other friend. I called and asked for the manager and I even explained how it was an emergency because I needed to know what chemicals they used because if I had to phone an ambulance I needed to know. She said he was too busy to talk to me and said that she guarantees it’s not the iced tea and I felt like I was being accused of lying. My friends even liked the food and mentioned they’d go for fish and chips all the time but now they won’t. Don’t go here as they clearly don’t care about customers and don’t want to be honest about the things they put in their machines or food.

My boyfriend and I both ordered the haddock and chips and iced tea. The iced tea tasted like it had some sort of cleaner in it, and when we let the waitress know they took them off our bill as they were obviously not drinkable. My boyfriend started feeling ill almost immediately after (he drank about a quarter of his glass, and I only had a few sips). We ate the rest of our meals and of course left a tip. It's now been about 4 hours and we are now both vomitting and dizzy. Called the restaurant to let them know and inquire about what chemicals they use to clean the drink fountain and the waitress refused to let us speak to the manager and insisted they don't use any cleaner and only clean with water? Absolutely unacceptable customer service and horrible experience. Will deffinitely not be returning, and I suggest you skip this place as well.

Halibut House is a chain with several outlets. We have eaten at a few locations, including this one on Kingston Road which is the worst we have experienced. Where do I start? Out of certain menu items. Over cooked, dry fish that almost tasted like chicken. Items packed awkwardly. Their solution to a issue is to give away more poor quality fried fish. Spent over $100 and had to throw out half of the order.

Huge servings and good food. I suggest if you come with someone else that does not like big servings, go for the 2 halibut and chip plate. They will split it for you.

Horrible food! I went on Good Friday which was crazy busy. That didn’t bother me. I ordered the haddock and chips and they actually don’t include the cole slaw (which was soggy and full of water in the container) they charge you extra for that when on their website it’s included. The fish had zero taste and the fries were old and hard and it gave both my mother and I heartburn. I ordered for my next door neighbour as well and she said the same thing and she ordered the halibut. Very expensive for such low quality food.

Visited a few times over the past year. Fish and chips is pretty good, breakfast is good. However, recently a family member and I ordered their Fish Chowder. The chefs clearly used too much flour or cornstarch (most likely in attempts to thicken the soup) , it was absolutely discusting. Looked terrible and tasted worse. Also, kitchen staff seem to talk to their waitress staff with disrespect. Not acceptable.

This is the best fish and chips in Oshawa. The food is fresh and the staffs are friendly. Especially, they have the big space for parking and they have the big tables for joining group . Moreover , breakfast are great . Only $3.95 for one egg 2pieces meat one bread and some home fried.

The piece of haddock was generous and filled the box with chips under the fish, The food was hot and well cooked. Nice thin batter not one of those places with more batter than fish - Excellent. This restaurant is not recommended; unless you want to be ripped off. The price for two orders of fish and chips and drinks (which gets you one peice of fish, not large by any means, a pile of chips and two cans of pop) is $34.00 . To make matters worse, neither the fish or the chips were memorable. Pretty low caliber food for a way too high price. I will not be ordering from there again. Also, no condiments (tartar sauce, salt, vinegar) with my the take out order. No forks either. I was not impressed.

First time in awhile we’ve been able to dine in and it was great. We were wanting something different and had a craving for fish and chips. We both had the seafood platter, which has a piece of haddock, 3 shrimp, 3 scallops and fries. I substituted onion rings for $2 more. Fish was perfect, nice light batter. Great service. I can't comment negative on the meal, however food and clean should always go together. I arrived and seated myself in full view of cash. After placing my order I then noticed what appears to be a customary at this location, the staff eating their meal at cash while addressing the customer. Weird maybe, however this is where the story began to go downhill. Waiting for my meal I was challenged by the view of my waitress engorging herself in her meal while another waitress (right beside her) addressed a paying customer. This spectacle of engorgement continued as though she was sitting a her kitchen table back home. Yes. I watch as she would tilt her head back and finger feed herself with large morsels of fish and what ever else made it into her saliva moistened fingers. This was then followed by the 'get every last drop' licking and sucking of her fingers clean. But wait, its not over yet. This was immediately followed by her attending to a sitting customers needs, by grabbing some additional utensils without first washing her hands. Lets just say, If she had delivered my meal I would have left only after scolding her as this behaviour continued until her meal was completely devoured. NEVER DID I SEE HER WASH HER HANDS DURING MY TIME THERE. This does not include the times that she scooped ice of a lucky customer or more. Maybe the ice that hit her fingers did some cleaning...NOT SURE.

Amazingly fresh and tasty fish & chips and I'm not a seafood person. The service was amazing the best I had in years and the food came fast and hot. Just a heads up if your planning on getting gravy it's enough to split between 2 people, it's a lot but really good.

Was in visiting from the NWT. Met my Aunt and cousin there, ate and talked for 4 hours. The server was so pleasant and just kept refilling our coffee as we caught up. It was clean and service was amazing. Highly recommend the fish and chips, it was delicious!!!
