Came from out of town and had a hankering for fish and chips. Based on reviews, we decided to try Churchill's. It lived up to its reputation. Had lightly battered halibut with fresh cut fries (not frozen) and the best coleslaw I have ever tasted! Also, the service was fast and friendly making this restaurant a winner. The only drawback is that the establishment is "cash only" - they don't accept credit or debit cards - a minor inconvenience as they have an on-site ATM.

Great place to go to get fish and chips, and always friendly and fast. Today was the first time we went in and it was super busy with takeout (dining room always full, but usually we time it a little after dinner rush so we arent going in when swamped. I really dont know how they keep everything in order amongst all the chaos, but they do, every single person got thier order correctly done, in the order they came in. Doesnt matter small or large order, over the phone, ordering takeout, or dining in. But it is the reason they are the top fish and chip shop in North Oshawa.

Went here based on all the positive reviews.This place doesn't take debit or credit...in 2018. The place is not well maintained at all and quite run down. The food is overly greasy and lacks flavour. On the bright side the food was made quickly. Go to other Fish & Chip places.

Let me start positive these people are really nice working family. I loved the vibe there prices are great and the variety is good too. In my opinion and according to my taste the fish and chips were not great. Everyone has different tastes and needs this is only my opinion. I found the batter to thick and tasteless. There was absolutely no seasoning not even salt in the batter or fish. Haddock and white fish aren’t that tasty so everything was bland. The chips also no salt tasteless. They fry with shortening so when it gets cold it goes hard. The wings weren’t bad a bit too much sauce but tasty. I’m very particular about my fish and chips I ate the British Churchill’s fish and chips and this isn’t it. But Koodos to them there are lots of other people that love their fish and chips.

Halibut is the only fish I get when I want fish and chips. Today when I stopped here I ordered my regular halibut but I was also able to order 1 piece of whitefish so I could try it. It was absolutely delicious. Always fabulous service and delicious food.

Price is absolutely incredible for 4 halibut and chips which feeds the whole family. Big pieces and tastes great. Note that they take cash only. The store itself needs a major facelift but who cares if the food is good and we're eating it at home anyway. I love supporting family run businesses who truly have good food and prices.

Clean restaurant, friendly staff who always greet you with a smile and cozy spot for great fish & chips with yummy gravy (no lumps) and deluxe coleslaw...why do I call it deluxe coleslaw you ask?!? Because of the effort and ingredients put in it to make it awesome: cabbage, carrot, perfectly diced green peppers and celery in a sweet vinagrette. Excellent!!!! I wish I could give 6 stars out of 5!

Very nice family. Have only ordered takeout. The fish bites meal (end cuts from trimmed filets) is a great deal for $3.99. Good portions but I took away one star since last few orders of fries were not as good as usual. Different variety of potato maybe? Fat ‘Shwa Guy does love fries. Will stay a regular customer.

First off, I am baffled by the glowingly positive reviews. I just had the worst fish and chips I have ever had. The fish (supposedly halibut) was so overcooked that the thin bit of fish inside the batter was dry and chewy. The chips were primarily tiny scrap bits that were mostly burnt. The batter is way too heavy and the ratio of batter to fish is heavily leaning toward batter. I went because of the good reviews, but I certainly won't be returning

After moving to Oshawa, I couldn't find anywhere that would make light, tasty and well-cooked Halibut and Fries. Finally found a place that compares to the old school place in Scarborough where I came from. YES! Not sure about the rest of the menu but Halibut and Chips has not disappointed me yet. I have tried most of the fish and chip spots in Whitby and was willing to explore. The places is Whitby are cool. Glad I took the drive to Churchills. They made me feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door. I ordered the halibut and chips and questioned if it would fill me up. The chef reassured me that I did not need to order more as it was just for me. It came with two generous sized fish pieces and a great portion of chips. I spilt it into two meals. The batter was light and crispy. Not to much batter just right. The chips are tasty and the gravy was perfect. The price was fair and this is definitely my new spot. The tarter sauce is the packaged one which was not a big deal to me but thought I would mention it. Great experience overall....

The family that owns the place has been running it for many years now, they work so hard and are always so pleasant.
