I was hesitant about coming here to be perfectly honest. Born and raised in Orillia I know the area can be a little rough. But through word of mouth I finally tried it back in the summer. Now it's my go-to for fish and chips. Just awesome food all around. They really care about the customer too; tonight we had to wait less than 10 minutes past the time our food was supposed to be ready and they threw in two free drinks and extra fries/gravy just for the trouble (even though it was no trouble). The price is fair especially for the quality we're getting. The tartar sauce and gravy are super good too! I wish these guys all the luck moving forward and recommend them to all my friends. Keep up the great work Fin City!

Ate-in and felt uneasy to be the only patrons in the restaurant even though it was dinner time. Waitress was friendly and attentive and apologized a few times to our party of 4 that the restaurant was out of haddock and gravy due to the First Anniversary of Opening celebrated the weekend prior. She also apologized that the restaurant had no ice. Given it was a pretty warm day (mid-20s plus humidex) and the restaurant didn't feel like it was air conditioned, some ice for our drinks would have been nice. We quickly realized that while we were the only seated patrons, the restaurant was HOPPING! For a regular old Monday night, there was a steady stream of take-out orders and the phone did not stop ringing. No worries, we all ordered cod and chips. The portions were large. Fish was wonderfully moist. Batter was really crispy. Coleslaw was average. Tartar sauce was uniquely 'dilly' and 3/4 of us really liked it. Everything was nice and clean, including the exposed counters. We even noticed that the waitress was sanitizing her hands between packaging every single order. Was a great meal so hopefully the A/C can be repaired/added to get that last star.

Almost didn't stop because of the reviews, but it was definitely worth it! One of the best F&C I ever had (lived in the UK for 2 years). Fresh fish, seasoned perfectly. Batter was fluffy, crispy, and hot. Chips were crispy and right on point with salt. Asked for 2piece and got 5 (1big, 2 medium, and 1small). Not to mention the care on the package. Salt, pepper, ketchup, vinegar, and tartar sauce. Great meal!

And I have to say one of the best meals I have had in a long time while Travelling their menu simple it’s simple seating the service is simple but they do it And they rock it out our server was pleasant friendly the food was fast didn’t have to ask for anything good bang for your buck definitely go there. We ordered from Fin city back in July, I placed an order online (to try and save time) as it was a large order, but it wouldn’t go through, so I called and could not yet through. We drove in and they only had pickerel available. We placed an order and waited 45min it was not very busy but the you g girl was run off of her feet which is why no one was answering the phones. I was not going to return based on the fact I could not pre order, but the food and service was great. NEGATIVE We ordered again just after 5 on August 16, this time someone did answer. Again ONlY pickerel available. No biggy. We actually really liked it last time. An hour wait this time. We showed up and we’re told they are closed and have no more fish. We let them know we called in our order. We placed an order for 7 fish and chip and what we got was equivalent to 7 half orders. It looked like they cut the fish into hot dog size strips to make it stretch and it seems they ran out of fries as well. You can see in the picture the fish and chips were lucky if they hit the half way mark in the container. They should have notified us that they were low and may not have had enough and at minimum adjusted the prices. Full price for half orders not cool. We will support the business with consistent service, quantity, and quality

Couldn’t provide pulled pork that was on menu. Mozzarella sticks were terrible. Was charged for 2 halibut and chip dinner but when got home had only one piece. First and last time with Fin City! Was going to call as suggested then I read the last line of reply from owner. Really blaming driver...shame on you. They didn’t write the menu, cook the fish and mozzarella sticks or steal one piece on drive to us.!!!

They asked me to write a review so here goes. I went in with my family a little while ago while on vacation. At of all the places we visited this was the only place where their was no covid safety protocols in place which was a red flag for me personally. No signs about it, the cooks weren't wearing any masks, nothing, I'm fully vaxed and it doesn't bother me to share that personal information about myself, but if you're not, just a heads up. I support people's personal choices, anyway, on to the meal. We all got the cod fish and chips, with a poutine instead of fries, I enjoyed the poutine, it was just ok. The fish however was less fish and more batter, if I had to guess I'd say they use pancake batter and not a proper beer batter like I've had and prefer many times. The batter was so thick it was like a donut wrapped around my fish, I didn't enjoy it, it was just so absorbed with fryer oil, and their was very little cod. None of us enjoyed it, or could finish our meal, so much batter, too much. I understand a lot of people prefer their fish like this but I don't, the lady served us with no mask and didn't seem to mind the loiterer sitting close by to us on the outside picnic table who would not stop coughing and hacking up flem while he babbled to himself, this destroyed any remaining ambiance, we left because of this. The tartar sauce was tasty. I personally wouldn't return. The lady who served me was very friendly, so theirs that, I wish the restaurant all the best. As mentioned I was asked to leave a review, presumably, she is the owner. Good luck.

We have been wanting to try fish and chips at Finn City for a very long time. We did not dine in. Our order was not correct and we were not aware of this. Josh called immediately after us picking up our meal for 4 and was very apologetic. He more than made up for any inconvenience. No complaints at all. My husband said the best Fish and Chips he has had in many years. Food and staff are a 10+ We have have told our family and friends how awesome Finn City is. Check it out for yourself. Edible, but disappointing. NOT Old English style F&C. I'm a big fan of fish & chips and worked in a fish & chip shop for several years. I saw the reviews of this new shop on line and decided to try it. The fish was overcooked. It's supposed to be golden brown, not rusty brown. The chips were small and also overcooked. I left almost 1/2 of them on the plate - little pieces of crunchy potato peel (see picture). The coleslaw had way too much Mayo - it was runny! The bread was great! $22 for a nice slice of bread & butter. Sorry. I'll try again in a few months.

Wonderful enviroment friendly staff but I was disappointed with the fish portion size but fries portions were great but did not get coleslaw with my order and had to ask for tarter sauce. I also thought they had homemaid potatoes chips as the ones in the menu pictures but again I was disappointed to find out they did not have that.

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time! Chips are chip truck style, nice and crisp with fluffy inside. The fish had that light crisp batter and thick juicy flaky fillet! Definitely will be getting more in the future! Yum ????

I tried this place on a whim having past it by a bunch of times. It's under new management and renovated. The staff were quick and easy to deal with. The fish was great, I had the one piece halibut and it was tons of food. The price was extremely reasonable as well. Highly recommend for a quick dinner stop if you're looking for good fish and chips. They are prepared for covid 19 service as well.

Nice place to eat at. Battered fish is pretty well bang on everytime I order it and the dill poutine is unique yet tasteful. Good deals on the menu as well. Staff is friendly. Only small issue is the apartment upstairs can get pretty noisy while you try to enjoy your meal in the quiet environment. I just get takeout now. Foods still good n hot when you get it home as well!

Stopped by here as we were heading back to Toronto from a cottage. Signs showed "newly reno'd & new management". We liked that the food was made to order (guarantees it's hot & fresh)! We were hoping to try the pickerel but it wasn't available. Opted for the cod & halibut instead. Hand battered, crispy golden shell, fluffy flakey fish, deeelicious! Made one of our fries into a poutine, but too bad the gravy was not hot....more lukewarm. But other than that, the guys were so polite, friendly & service was quick!

I was there once & they had no fries, didn’t offer extra salad etc..second attempt I was given a 2 hour wait for an order of fish & chips-( nothing gourmet here just plain fish & chips, so third attempt phoned to place an order again at 6pm tried recalling several times and no answer at dinner hour, three strikes & your out buddy!! Maybe let us know the fishing hours so we don’t waste our time coming over! P.S. I’ve tried picking up my wish orders 2 or 3 times and twice I was sent away and told to come back in a couple of hours because they were busy, lol there was one person in there placing an order, I was ticked off being sent away tired after work and blew it off and came back a few days later but customer service leaves a lot to be desired let me tell ya!!

Aside from entering here and feeling discriminated against, they said they had no oil at 6:30pm so they weren't fulfilling any orders. They were supposed to be open until 9pm and there is no sign that says otherwise. We walked in, I am white but my boyfriend is Latin and darker skinned, and the woman seemed scared to even approach us. She never said hello, greeted us or anything. She just stared and when we said hello can we order please, she then stated "they were out of oil and she doesnt know if they can fulfill our order." From the way she 'greeted' us in the beginning, this makes me feel otherwise. Terrible feeling and I am extremely upset with this treatment. I hope no one else experiences this.

Placed an order here for pick up my wife went to pick it up for 5:30 order was placed at 5. It is now 630 the order was given away to another customer. Tell me how that is possible. Now the order might be ready for 7, 2 hours later. If it's not given away. Happy fathers day. Update: took 25% off our next order and a few extra pieces of fish. We will give you another try. We understand places get slammed. Hi all returned for a 2nd try and had a much better experience. The food is really good and it's not just fish and chips. My wife had deep fried pickles mushroom caps and mozzarella sticks. My wife said it was great. I had the 2pcs halibut and chips, it was good and I was full. My daughter had the 1 PCs halibut and chips. She loved it and had a hard time getting through the fish. The staff was friendly and brought the food to my truck. Very minimal contact which is good in this time of pandemic.

Thanks for your response, but it would be up front if your advised that your batter is not normal. Maybe make your own batter so you do not have this issue.

Driving from Toronto to Ripley, Ontario, we Googled Fish & Chips at lunch time, Fin City Fish & Chips popped up as highly recommended. We really enjoyed the hospitality and tasty Halibut and Chips this afternoon sitting in our Ford Raptor truck outside due to COVID 19 dining space closure. The batter on the fish was amazingly good, fish was fried just at the right temperature and in clean oil. Fish tasted very fresh. Coleslaw and tartare sauce were good accompaniment and enhanced the fish and chips taste. Fries were also just the way it should be for Fish & Chips. Whenever we are in the area we will certainly stop by for Fish and Chips. Highly recommended!

Don't blink or you might miss it! Located a little outside of main Orillia, this place has lots to offer. Some of the friendliest staff I have been in a long time. The food was good, reasonable priced and good size portions too. As I waited for my food to arrive I could constantly hear other people commenting on how good their food was. 4 stars for the food, service and quality. Unfortunately this place list points with me as they did not have handicapped accessible entrance and the washroom were in the basement. Not ideal for the elderly clientele.

Great food but super disappointed how they accepted the Door Dash order. Waited 40 min, the driver was there for pickup and then Fin City cancelled my order as the driver was waiting. No phone call. I called you guys and was told that the door dash tablet was broken but you guys accepted the order. Hmmm, confusing. Ordered several halibut and chip dinners on June 19, 2020. The fish was excellent! A huge amount of fish with the right amount of batter. Very delicious. Portions are large and filling. The price was great too, cheaper than most other fish and chip shops. Ordering was easy with the covid restrictions and so was pickup. I highly recommend!

I stopped by after hearing so much about this place in Barrie so to hear about Fin City another city over they must be doing nothings right. I must say they are and they are delicious the staff are great and the food is tasty. You get so much food I ended up leaving with some. This is the best fish and chips in Orillia and Barrie. Orillia is a town with a few great fish and chips places and this is subpar. The batter was not as crisp as some others, the fries were soft and not crispy either. I ordered the small pickerel dinner astonished at the amazing price. It should be mentioned how disappointed it I was to find that the small isn't even HALF of a Pickerel (Walleye) fillet. I am an avid angler and clean and cook Pickerel regularly myself. And the piece of meat that was given in both pickerel meals ordered was equal to at the most 1/4th of a fillet. Also my father found bones in his piece of pickerel. Won't be returning.

Good lord,where in the world do I start..I had a text with a Matt who turns out to be the owner,I explained my situation that I'm in the hospital with lymphoma cancer, and I wanted to do is order some fish ,and other sorts,not a big eater now due to my illness,but never the less he said just call the restaurant and they will take care of it,reason being I find skip..doordash and what have you are problems for me either food cold or something. As I placed my order 2 halibut, 1 mushroom cap,1 slaw,1 brownie, coke,that was it,when my order arrived!!!!! I RECIEVED 2 FULL PORTIONS OF HUGE FISH,PLUS 2 MEDIUM ONES 2 TARTER SAUCE,SLAW,COKE,FRIES,and talk bout hot,fresh an just DELICIOUS, I cannot ty enough for the kind hearted gesture of all the extras its overwhelming....I have now told all my friends,family to eat here from now on!!! Just a remarkable owner ,and absolutely wonderful food,and a heart of kindness that this world needs more of,!!! Ty ever so much!!! This place was awfull. Ordered 2 piece Halibit and Fries, to go. They had forks but no knives. Had to ask for condoments. Which felt like a inconvince. The fish was so thin and had a weird texture to it. The batter was horrible! Looked over cooked, grease laiden, soggy mess. The fries were even soggy. Ketcup didn't help anything. Tarter sauce was mayo, with some cheap relish or some chopped pickle in it. Please don't answer back with the old "not our usual batter" or "new cook" or what ever. I wouldn't go back. How did this place ever get a 5 star review???

was hesitant about coming here to be perfectly honest. Born and raised in Orillia I know the area can be a little rough. But through word of mouth I finally tried it back in the summer. Now it's my go-to for fish and chips. Just awesome food all around. They really care about the customer too; tonight we had to wait less than 10 minutes past the time our food was supposed to be ready and they threw in two free drinks and extra fries/gravy just for the trouble (even though it was no trouble). The price is fair especially for the quality we're getting. The tartar sauce and gravy are super good too! I wish these guys all the luck moving forward and recommend them to all my friends. Keep up the great work Fin City!

During Covid I’m doing my best to support local businesses. I ordered from Skip the Dishes. This was my second time. I made specific requests the first time which were not met. I asked for extra tartar sauce and malt vinegar, I didn’t get either. Second time (I’m always willing to do it twice). Same request, extra tartar and malt. In my opinion two pkgs of malt are NOT extra... although I did get a second container of tartar sauce. The ‘chips’ were barely cooked and very ‘anemic’ looking and I ended up having to put them in my air fryer. Kind of diminishes the whole take out experience. I understand that delivery will not be close to the same as an eat in experience. I won’t order from them again.

I really hate it give this review, because I know all restaurants are struggling right now. Unfortunately our first experience from this restaurant was less than stellar. The positives, our order was ready when it was suppose to be and my daughters chicken strips and fries were good. She loved them. The rest of our meal was a trifecta of a fail. The gluten free batter was missing something and neither my son nor I could eat it. We picked the fish out from the inside. I couldn’t pin point what it was but it left a weird after taste in our mouth. The fries were not fully cooked. We had to break out the air fryer to finish them at home. My husbands chicken wings were ok although the additional pound of wings were not in the bag of food we were given when we got home. From the other reviews it looks like our experience isn’t a normal one.

Food is decent, not greasy. Halibut wasn't the normal square shape I've normally had at other places. Taste was good. But..... 1.5 hour wait.... Tough times right now, I understand, so we waited.... But still.... Were told 1 hour after we paid. Steady business and orders but extreme wait times for an ordinary evening. Ask for wait time when you arrive and if it's over 30 min, ask why.

Went there for dinner on Wed. Sept. 4 around 5pm. Not a good experience. Halibut meals were good but not breading to my liking; portions were good. Waitress seemed inexperienced; washrooms were dirty; noisy upstairs as people were moving and the smell of 'grass' was very evident plus my son found a hair on his plate of food. I noticed one of the cooks had long hair and no hairnet. First impressions.........not likely to go back.

There are much better fish and chip places in town. My wife brought home some fish and chips from here as well as poutine and it was terrible, the poutine was alright, and the coleslaw was ok and that was why I didn't give them 1 star. The portions were tiny, the pickerel was dry and rubbery which lacked any flavour. I really tried to give this place a chance but between spuratic hours being closed when they were supposed to be open and the price for what you get I wont be back. It is a shame because south ward needs good stores and restaurants. Give them a try if you like, just dont go in with high expectations as other reviewers present.

I placed an online order through their online ordering system and the order was confirmed with a wait time of 30 minutes. When I showed up my order wasn't prepared, which was unfortunate because we were looking forward to it. They had no idea I placed an order. So just be weary of the online system, I'm sure calling in is much better! But if you're in a pinch for lunch, like I was, it ended up being a waste of time.

Went there for take out halibut and chips last night. Not a good experience.. Ordered a 2 piece halibut and chips. Got home and discovered about 5 little end pieces of fish mostly batter. They were anywhere from an inch to an inch and a half in size. Fish and fries fries all over cooked.. They were really busy and think must have been running out of fish. Won't be going back!!!

Friendly staff and a decent small menu. Quite a slow service, it took us about 20 minutes to receive our two orders of fish and chips. Fish was not very good and same for the chips. Little too expensive for the quality of the food as well as the quantity. No plates available for the take away orders. You have to go downstairs for the washrooms that were not very clean.

My lunch group asked me to try out this new fish and chip restaurant. I went there on September 26 2019, I should also say that I owned 2 successful local restaurants in the 80's so I know a bit about food quality, service and decor. I have read a number of previous reviews and I have to concur their comments. The fish needs to be prepared, cooked and presented in a different way. It was dried out, the batter was to thick and it was over cooked. The portion size of fish was also minimal. They load the plate up with so many fries it makes the portion seem larger than it is. By the way the fries were quit good. The restaurant is clean and minimalist. I did not use the washroom. You would think that a new business especially in the food industry would get over their 1st week opening jitters and put out a product to be proud of. The formula to be successful in the food industry is pretty simple: "Quantity, Quality and Price" and you will reap the rewards.

Have had a poor experience in the past, but tried again tonight to give them a chance as the food is typically really good. However, again, the poor organizational skills showed again. Each of the three times we've ordered from here we've called several hours ahead. When we arrive to pick up the order we are left waiting for an unknown amount of time in the parking lot. It's an extremely frustrating experience and considering they couldn't give a time frame on how long it was going to be or even inform us when ordering that they would be too busy at a certain time. As we sat in the parking lot, we had seen several walk-ins and skip the dishes drivers show up, pick up their order, and leave before we did. Which was even confirmed that they somehow got priority over us when our food was eventually brought out. It wasn't until we complained about the wait that they seemed to find our order. Would highly not recommend here if you value your time at all.

Congratulations you are my new favorite in town. We called to see if they would accommodate 12 of us and they said that they would be able to. Upon arrival the place is very clean!! And a very cute decor. We all ordered different fish Between Halibut, Haddock and Pickerel. It was all so fresh and tasty. No grease at all which was a surprise from the normal places we got too. All 12 of us really enjoyed and will be back. Also try the Clam Chowder it’s my Husbands new Favorite we even took some for home.

Got the haddock and chips. 2 pieces were cooked perfectly. The batter was literally perfect IMO and I am not easy to please. The fries were good, and the coleslaw was nice too...just a little small. Fish and chips is hard to screw up but lots of places do. This is a great value takeout for Fish and Chips from what I can tell. Definitely will be coming back.

Ok now this is a new restaurant, it's the old B.J's restaurant off of James Street. Amazing place to eat, all home made and absolutely delicious, they had their grand opening a couple of weeks ago and the breakfast was amazing, great cooks and very friendly, I love it there. My birthday I asked my husband he said what would you like for your bday dinner and I said Fin City I had the Halibut and fries and gravy my husband had the haddock and fries and gravy and my Neice had the chicken strips and poutine, all delicious we all had pop and my husband had a Corona. All that came to under $60.00. $20 tip well deserved for sure. I will go back it actually sounds good now!!

Went a few weeks ago with my family and we all enjoyed our food. Went again within the last week and experience was terrible. Haddock was raw so we had to send it back. Second piece we received was also raw. Portion of halibut was two tiny pieces which was nearly all batter and was soggy in the middle. Waitress kept apologizing for our meal and knocked 20% off the bill, she said that was she could do without the owner there. We love to support new businesses but our experience was so poor we won’t be back.

New fish and chips in town , well Went once and it was decent went a 2nd time and it went down hill in a hurry. Fish wasn't cooked right, portions were small, the only thing they got right was the chips. No fish inside the batter beside small bits like others have said and it wasnt fully cooked . I would start by firing your cook I'd never send anything out to guest like that. Never be back . Waitress was nice but seemed over her heard and made excuses for the cook.
