The place is good, neat and maintains the quality. But It's very expensive compared to other places. I didn't find anything extraordinarily great at this place. I live close to highway 7 and just drove there to try it out after reading the good reviews. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with this place, fish is fresh and ok staff. The fish quality seems at par with the T&T fish that you get in GTA. Definitely a great choice to buy fish if you live in this area.

The first time I visited off the hook, I was in the market for oysters. They had been recommended to me as a 'brain food', and I was willing to try them out. I was very pleased to have Sandra, the owner's wife, educate me on the various kinds of oysters they had available, and also how to shuck an oyster and eat them. Who knew? Anyways, I bought a shucking knife, and I left with oysters and salmon. I am so glad I had the 'abc's of shucking, otherwise I might have hurt myself if I had attempted to 'figure it' out myself. Each time I visit, I am greeted by smiling staff and owners. The fish is fresh and they are very happy to educate me on the various kinds of fish they carry, and they make great recommendations on what and how to serve the fish I am buying. The fish and seafood are fresh, and I always enjoy my visit and friendly and informative conversations. I am definitely 'hooked'.

Last year I went to this store to buy fish there was a tall guy that had really unprofessional and angry manners and I didn't back to this store , but tonight I went there and their stuff were very nice and really helpful specially mr Triko who gave me very nice information and helped me a lot to choose

In response to your reply, there is no tag with the price per kilo and weight on my item. Hence the negative feedback and the doubt that it was charged accordingly. If its' too busy to tag items then that's not really an excuse. With respect to the salmon though I have noted that the flavour is not the same as it was before. It may be the same supplier but its' definately not the same fish and I can taste that. I'm not sure if it is from a different farm or the specifc details, all I can say is that it is quite different from before and no longer something to look forward to. So, as I vote with my feet, I won't be buying it. It does remind me of Loblaws when they too had decent salmon and then all of a sudden it was not as good as before. Same thing with the quality of Canadian butter and Milk. Some brands were good and then they decided that they needed the bottom line brought up so the product suffered. All I can say in these cases is that the flavour was no longer the same and I switched to other manufacturers that have better flavour and it seems still retained quality. I'm sorry you did not like my negative review but I am being honest with you about my experiences and providing feedback that perhaps all is not well in the kingdom of Denmark. Thanks again. -------------------- Last weekend was the last time we're buying from Off The Hook. I was mis-charged and only realized it when I came home. There is no item breakdown on the bill so I can't complain. Additionally, the Salmon I purchased last time is not anywhere near what it used to be. It's really sad to say all this as my experience in the past has mostly been positive. I guess fresh fish is off the menu going forward. It's unfortunate but it seems to be the reality nowadays that most food markets are run for top-returns on investment and it is a race to the bottom both in quality and service. Thank you for the nice memories though, I'll miss the fish.

Can not believe this is the first review ! Ryan and crew are the best fish mongers anywhere near the GTA Shopped there as bunch of times , service is great seafood is even better. Try the Fresh Gulf Shrimp, way cheaper than a return ticket to NOLO All the other offerings are great and well priced My go to for fish

Just cooked some Chilean Sea Bass I got there. Actually my wife cooked it. My kids had never had it before. Wow, that's all I can say. Unbelievable. Not the cheapest, but very high quality.

I've been buying fish from this store for about a year and a half, the prices here are usually higher than in the supermarkets, but the fish is fresh. Good place to buy non-frozen sea fish and local seasonal fish. The service is usually fast and friendly.

A disaster. My wife picked up few dozen oysters. They left them unchuked in a bag. When I got home to open them, most were cracked and blackened. No way we are eating them.

I've been to Off The Hook fish market several times and usually it's a pretty good experience, pay their price you will get some pretty decent fish most of the time. Today I was pulling in around 11 am and an aggressive driver driving a panel truck nearly hits me head on. The way you're supposed to drive in the parking lot is just like on a regular road drivers going north keeps right and drivers going south keeps to the left. All the driver had to do was wait till I passed and then pull into my lane. But no aggressiveness was the theme of the day. I had to go around the truck on the left side as he was blocking my way I noticed it was the Off The Hook fish truck. I get it, sometimes he parks there picking up or dropping off fish. But the civilized thing to do is when another vehicle is there first let them pass and then park. So I had to walk into the store right behind Mr polite driver. So I'm in the store and right away the guy to counter demands I use the hand sanitizer. |I had my vaccination and I calmly explained I used hand sanitizer in my car. Its a special kind because my hands are very dry and my fingers are sore from doing dishes. Yes I invested in a pair of gloves. Taller guy in the front reminded me I touched the door so I needed to put more hand sanitizer. I didn't want to argue with the guy but I did tell him twice I used it in the car 2 seconds ago my own kind of milder brand and my hands were very dry and they hurt. This is the first time someone demanded I used hand sanitizer. I was wearing a mask but I think he was going overboard. Fine I needed my two bags $52 jumbo shrimp and I really had to get going. All the while I know damn well that the guy in front of me driving the truck walked into the store and I know he didn't use the hand sanitizer. I was looking at the saffron which is $3 more per box than everywhere else maybe I should have bought that too as the extra money could be used for charm school. If you are fed up with this place try T&T on Yonge just south of Major Mac they have a huge selection of fresh, live and frozen fish.

Ocean fresh!!! I ordered lobster and came in that same day! This is the only place I can find mahi mahi from costa rica and delicious oysters from BC. Excellent customer service too.

I've been going to Off The Hook for years, the service in store is one of the best. Fish are prepared the way we ask and cleaned well. This time we decided to order oysters for Christmas so we called last week and was told to call back as they get a new shipment in and not sure what they will have. Called again this week and the girl on the phone said they were fully booked. When I explained that was odd, we were told to call back she quickly stated they never said that and ended our conversation. I get it's busy season but very disappointed and basically being told I'm wrong or a liar essentially.

An exceptional store with fantastic product!! The best fish in the GTA, and a store that is always fully staffed with people who are ready to help. I had one phone interaction which wasn’t great - but that has been counter-balanced by at least a dozen in person interactions which have been fantastic. My favourite recipe comes from an employee, and every piece of fish I have purchased has been of the highest quality. We are lucky to have such a great Family run fish monger in York Region!

We recently ordered 10 dozens of freshly shucked oysters with a large platter of crab claws and lobster tails... and again Off the Hook has amazed us with great seafood and amazing service. I had a terrible experience at this store and shared my story with everyone I know !!. This place doesn't deserve your hard earned money as the owner have no integrity with the customers! I came to this store with my young child after reading all the positive reviews and ended up buying some fish. The service was ok, but not great. After returning home and checking my bill, I realized that I was overcharged by a significant amount given the weight shown on the receipt. I was distracted by my kid and didn't check the receipt at the store.. I returned to the store immediately and ask the person at the cashier (i.e. a wife of the owner) to doubt check the weight and adjust the price accordingly. I could not believe how rude, disrespectful and condescending she was after I questioned the bill! Instead of apologizing for a mistake made, she made me feel like I don't understand anything and don't speak good English! I asked for my money back and she agreed to a refund asking me if I want to speak to her husband (i.e. the owner of the sore). I was in a rush to leave after such a poor treatment and had no desire to speak to him. That moment, the owner approached me quite aggressively and start screaming at me "get out of my store and never come back!" He was so rude, belligerent and very aggressive! I was in disbelieve that he acted like this in front of his 13-14 year old son who was working at that store! How terrible is that! I shared this story with many people and wrote a complain to the better business bureau.

Unfortunately, my first experience with Off The Hook Fish Market is also going to be my last. I am so disappointed; after reading all the positive reviews, I was excited to order from them... I placed my order online (the day before, as prescribed by their website), selected one of the two pick up times that are offered (10:30 or 4:00), received the confirmation email, and showed up on time to pick it up. This is where it went sharply downhill... I double checked the email when parked outside (and noted that it did not say to call, nor was the store's phone number in the email) and so I walked up to the door and politely knocked. When the woman answered the door, I stepped back to ensure appropriate distancing, and she greeted me with "Did you call the store?" to which I replied that I hadn't. I was then told that "people normally call." Whoops! I explained that the email didn't provide any instructions for pick up, other than in-store pick up isn't available, but I was there to pick up an order I'd submitted online. She closed and locked the door, walked away, and then returned to get my order confirmation number... which is especially fun, because there is no confirmation number included in the email. I turned my iPhone around so she could see the email; instead of acknowledging that there wasn't a confirmation number or pick up instructions, or even offering a quick apology, she asked when I placed the order. I answered ("I ordered on Tuesday") and explained that it was my first time ordering from them... and that I hadn't quite expected the interaction we were having. She said "thanks" and then closed and locked the door again. Finally, a man came to the door and thrust the bag of fish at me. I thanked him, politely suggested they add they pick up instructions and/or their phone number to the confirmation emails, and told him that my first experience with their store wasn't what I had expected. He said "oh, okay" and then went on to deal with the next woman in line (who, interestingly, walked away empty-handed). Perhaps I caught them on a bad day? I don't know. But I know that I didn't like how my first experience with the store and staff left me feeling, so while the food may get rav reviews... their customer service certainly does not.

Staff here are incredibly kind and helpful. They didn't make feel pressured or rushed to get something and leave. They helped me find what I was looking for. They have sushi grade fish and carry fish skin. I'm very happy with this place and don't mind the 30 min drive to go here. I'll update this on my next visits to see if they're still welcoming

Have been to this location at least dozen times picking up all sorts of fresh seafood. Snapper, shrimp, salmon etc. Place is clean and typically friendly. I did have one very rude interaction when I called and asked what the prices were for an item before attending the store. I understand market pricing varies and wanted to know what to expect before deciding. However I was told "we don't discuss prices over the phone". When I asked why I was told "I don't make the rules". With no further explanation. Or offer to speak to the owner. (I sure hope it wasn't the owner I was speaking with). Anyway needless to say I won't be goin back. I'm a firm believer in supporting businesses that treat customers right.

Possibly the best fish market anywhere in the GTA. Ryan and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and they have a very good selection. Prices may be a little higher than your local grocery but the fish is always fresh (not previously frozen) and fish lovers can taste the difference. I have recommended many friends to Off the Hook and no-one is disappointed.
