Pretty sure this is a family run business. As far as I know they have been here for a couple of decades. Went in to get a fish and bowl for my little one a few weeks ago, a nice man (possibly the owner) was very helpful, gave us advice on what we needed for a little starter pet fish set up. We got a bowl, an accessory castle and 2 gold fish. Very beautiful & healthy fish. We will definitely be coming back for our future first filtered aquarium. Please shop and support local!! Let's keep our family owned business' afloat (no pun intended ????)during these crazy covid times. Thank you for a great experience!

Horrible and deceiving!! Stay away if you can because if anything goes wrong they won't help you unless you pay more and more. I paid $2000 for a new piece of glass and for my tank to be resealed. The tank is over 200 gallons and it leaked and when I asked for help they wanted more money, how is it my fault? I never touched it other than to feed my fish and I followed every single instruction!! Well the tank is leaking more again and has flooded my house once again, I feel completely deceived especially when I paid so much money!! I wouldn't mind if it was done properly or if they came to reseal it but they completely abandoned me and ignored me. STAY AWAY THEY DO NOT CARE THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY

We have bought minimum 15 fish (5 at a time) from this place. They all died, plus a heater exploded in the tank. The only time we asked for a refund he said it was our fault. Don't buy fish here they will die. We understand it can be tricky with fresh water fish, but 15 fish can't be all us

White spots on fish wiped out my whole aquarium which I spent years building. My poor little friends have all died from the white spots brought in from this particular shop. When questioned about it, I was told that it was MY fault. Because my tank was close to a window? Just no. This place sells fish with the disease “ick” and it will spread through your tank like wildfire. Please for the love of god be careful before purchasing from these people. And if you do go down the same path, don’t expect a refund or any sort of apology because the owner will find a way to turn the blame on you.

The service here is amazing!! Any question I had was answered with knowledge. The younger gentleman took time to walk thru the store with us and discuss the different fish and their comparability with eachother and the older gentleman was helpful in giving me tips for general maintenance, they even offered to test my tank water when I come in to get my plants to make sure everything is ok. I have gone here many times in the past and will continue to go there for all my aquatic needs!!

I went to their place and purchased complete set of tank and filter etc..with extra charge for delivery and installation after paying good amount of money upfront and the rest upon receiving and installation. They promise me to deliver it within 5 day i had to wait 2 full weeks . After ignoring my calls i had to drive again all the way from Richmond hill to Scarborough and get back my money. They don't even apologize to customers . DO NOT WAST YOUR MONEY

I didn't catch this at first, but I was charged for items I didn't buy. Items I had purchased I was overcharged for as well. They have older style receipts so it doesn't list what the items are, and I was charged for 4 plants @ $7.99, when I actually got 3 plants, and I was told one was $4.99 and the other two $7.99. I was also overcharged for 2 frogs. Otherwise the younger clerk was friendly, but he's the one that made all the errors. :/ The older guy was the one who told me the pricing. I dunno, I don't like to complain, but I don't have a lot during this covid thing, and my experience really put me down on coming back.

I wouldn't recommend this store to the beginner aquarist as they have many harder to care for species, this is the perfect store for the hobbyist who knows what he wants and wants it for a good price. The prices here are insanely low. A $45 shrimp at other major stores is only $20 here. Thats crazy.

Poor customer service tanks are filthy water everywhere no sign if the floors are wet . Mold in basement overcrowded tanks. This place don't quarantine there fish also he sell the fish within 24 hours so live stock will hardly survive. I would recommend going to either bigals or petsmart already they quarantine and give guarantee

Found this place using google as I am from out of town but have heard about Big Al's and we wanted to find any other stores. First impression was that the tanks were very dirty, water on the floor and as another review mentioned having to ask for prices on almost everything. He did help me out alot when purchasing fish and explaining the care. He is very friendly and I wouldn't mind going back as we had an overall good experience. The sad thing is I bought a betta (I have owned them in the past and know their care) he was beautiful colours and unfortunately he died within 3 days. The one my friend bought is so far still alive and thriving so are the tetras we purchased, if he wasn't so far away I would have double checked on if they have a return like petsmart or if it's buyer beware like Paul Macs.

Poseidon almighty. A mini-ocean right in Scarborough. This shop absolutely astounded me. I was expecting it to be nice due to the work out into the front of the building, but when I saw the fish room my mind was absolutely blown. The cichlids, the guppies, the Anubias. MASSIVE cardinal and black tetras. Astounding prices. Then you enter the saltwater room. Floored. I'd you need a rose bubble tip anemone there is a batch that resemble rose tentacles spurting from galaxies. The fish are in great health and they carry very healthy advanced specimens such as elegence coral, Aussie torches, A MOORISH IDOL AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RIBBON EEL I'VE EVER SEEN! I've kept my Amazon tank running for a decade if not almost, and I haven't kept a reef since my first year of university. This store alone inspired me to begin reefkeeping again, and reefkeeper's hold the destiny of so many species in our rare hands. Do the oceans rivers and lakes a favour and shop at this beautiful rare family run shop. You will not regret it. Will return with pictures ASAP. Don't think, just do. P.S. Kingston road rules so many hidden gems.

North American Fish Breeder's is what a family business is all about - what separates them from a chain of stores staffed by people that are only interested in selling you product without thought. The family there has taken my son's saltwater aquarium, which after almost a year was a complete mess, and guided him through starting from scratch. They patiently explained what he needed to do, gave him guidance, taught him patience, and now his tank is thriving. He has learned many life lessons from this, patience, research, understanding that there is no, "instant gratification". I can't say enough about how helpful NAFB is, how fantastic the entire family is, how they stand behind every fish and product they sell, and how willing they are to help out. By far one of the best places in Ontario for fish, both salt water and freshwater. Their coral and invert selection is great, if you can get there before they are gone, as NAFB is the hidden gem of the reef keeping community, once they post their new livestock on their Facebook page the best corals quickly sell out. Also they provide custom tank service. I had my tank made by the owner John and he did and absolutely fantastic job. His sons are very friendly and helpful, it's nice to see a successful family owned and operated small business that gives a very personal approach that is more about helping the customer with the hobby then making money.

First off let me just say this is my first ever review. I never feel the need to review stores but I just felt like I needed to for this store. That's how bad it was. Worst aquatic store I've ever been to. No prices on a lot of equipment and the things that do have prices they are high. I should be able to browse your store and not have to ask you every 2 seconds what the price of something is. Buy a damn label maker. Multiple tanks with incorrect labels or only one label housing multiple species. For someone who knows what they are looking for this isn't a big deal but for people who are new to the hobby will have a difficult time figuring out what is what. The tanks are filthy and covered with algae. I would NEVER think of buying a fish from here and putting it in my tank. I would have no faith that the fish would 1 last and 2 not infect my tank. The entire store just needs to be cleaned in general. There is clutter everywhere along with garbage throughout the store. I honestly have no idea how this store is rated above 4...I certainly was very disappointed when I showed up expecting to be walking into at the very least a decent store. I don't know what other people see in this store but I certainly will not be back.

No stars. Charged my son $3.99 each for feeder goldfish. Told him he was out of the feeders. He got home, and it cost $30.00 for 7 feeder goldfish. Not wasting the gas to go back and return them. Shame on you.

Great selection of hard to find supplies and equipment. Only place I've come across that stocks uni-seals. Custom aquariums look well made and of better quality and materials than franchise stores. Very knowledgeable owner.

NAFB aquarium centre has been around as long as I can remember (I was raised in Scarborough in the '70s). This unassuming store has always stocked what I required, but full disclosure I am not not an aquatic aficionado but could find sufficient varieties, in stock to suit my needs. They have many, many tanks, with varieties of fish, mollusk, plants and amphibians. Including nocturnal varieties. My kids enjoy the experience, seeing their inventory and peering into every tank. However, the staff are always helpful and very knowledgeable, understanding the different characteristics and care requirements of the variety of species they carry. They have always been able to provide me with guidance whenever asked, leaving me informed and well-equipped. I will return and support my local business!

Just discovered this place recently. Compared to the big box stores, their prices are decent and have a great selection to choose from. Their fish are active and healthy. The people running this place are super friendly and knowledgable. They also have an amazing selection of coral reefs. This shop is a hidden gem.
