I would really recommend this place for anything you want for a pet. I just got my hamster yesterday and they made him very kind because he hasn’t bit me once and likes me on day 1!! The workers were also very kind to us and let us take our time. I would recommend this place

I have been shopping @ Martas for years & John and his family are a real throw back to a time where you go to a shop because they are the experts at what they do...and always a very good experience. The store is well stocked...and even other pet stores say 'try Martas". They are making sure that everyone stays safe & limit the numbers of Customers in the store..but it is worth the wait.

yesterday my family and I travelled from durham all the way to Martha's pet & Aquaria shop and let me tell you I was very pleased. I bought a baby blue budgie and they are so cute. I love her so much. she is singing and interacting with everyone in the house. definitely would recommend this shop to everyone, the workers were very friendly and made us feel at home. we are thinking about coming back and buying another one thank you guys sooo much!!

The pet store owners are friendly and mean well but they sold me a few rats that were sick and missing fingers. The sickness spread in my colony and it killed 5 out of 9 rats. Not pleased. Do not buy pets here.

Went there to check out what kind of fish and aquarium plants they have and oh boy I was disappointed. Tanks were dirty, lots of dead fish in the tanks, limited selection and all overpriced. Plenty of guppies to trick kids but not a place recommended for aquarium enthusiasts.

AMAZING family pet shop!!!! Went with my boyfriend to get a rabbit and they were SO helpful and knowledgeable! They really went above and beyond for us. They took over an hour of their time (after store hours too!) to educate us, help us and get us prepared to take our new fur baby home. Good locally run business, but the animals are in far too cramped corners - especially their small selection of reptiles. They are not very lively because of this. I have bought pet supplies here, but I would not purchase an animal.

The advantages of going to a small, locally owned pet shop are all here. John will kindly help you along every step of the way with great advice, and the animals are well taken care of, and has a great selection of EVERYTHING, aquarium decor, filters, substrate etc. Cages, toys, etc. Definitely recomended, great place to go if your just starting because you'll get tips you won't find on the internet.

I read some reviews here before visiting and I was a bit disappointed. Most reviews said the place was good, birds were in good condition, etc. When I went here yesterday I noticed how small and cramped the place was, which ofc that’s fine not every pet store is big, but this place in particular was very small and over packed I’d say. The birds didn’t look very healthy but also looked dirty. The cages weren’t clean either. Some birds I saw (such as baby love birds and a cockatiel) were in aquariums which really bugged me. I have a leopard gecko and I’ve done a lot of research on them. They.Cant.Have.Sand.As.Flooring. They could die because of it, they also don’t need lighting but when I went that’s what I saw, a baby leopard gecko with a heat lamp, small cage, and sand as flooring which also bothered me. I will say that the owner was very nice and allowed me to hold the conure he had. It was a sweet old man trying to do some business, if there was anything wrong with the birds I could understand if it’s hard for him to take care of all of them without help. Would I myself an animal there, sorry to say but no. Would I buy supplies, yes, yes I would.

I bought a hedgehog from here and only realized how bad of a condition they were kept in please do not buy them from here. Number one they are too overpriced the hedgehog itself and their food was $300 and you can buy one off kijiji that’s younger and cheaper, number two they are all kept together and in a very small cage with no wheel and very little bedding, and number three they all not socialized at all that he had to pick up the hedgehog with a spatula and put him in water to calm him down which is wrong because they should be handled everyday and clearly they are kept in this cage every day with very little space. I made a very big mistake buying from this place please learn from my mistake.

Customer service was really good. John was extremely friendly and nice. The shop however was really small and everything was too crowded. No cleanliness where the animals are kept and animals are overcrowded into small cages. The water for the birds was brown and cages were really dirty. The prices on the animals are over priced. One budgie costs $60 whereas Petsmart has them for $30. I bought 2 budgies and they seem healthy so far. I recommend buying supplies from here but buying the pets from somewhere else if possible.

I bought a hamster from here and she died in less than 5 days. The older gentleman there is patient and nice but the lady is very pushy and kept pressuring me to buy and leave. I went there with the intention of getting an idea of what I would need, the costs involved and see the hamsters and ended up purchasing many things due to her pressure (obviously that's on me but her attitude made me feel guilty to just be there to ask). When I purchased the hamster I asked if I should take it to a vet and they said it is not needed. I assumed they know their stuff but I wish I didn't listen and maybe I could have saved that little hamster. At the time of sale they even said "final sale" which I found was weird as if they knew the hamster would die. Places like petsmart give you a 2 week return policy in case something happens to the health of your hamster. By the time the hamster started acting weak and I got a vet appointment for the next day, we lost our little hamster. We are so devastated. Just an upsetting and bad experience for us.

Fabulous old school pet shop! Great owner and staff! We bought a couple of gerbils but they have all kinds of small pets birds and fish. Very well stocked with food, bedding, cages and toys. Best of all they have so much experience to share. We live going to Marta’s Pet Shop!!

I got a baby ferret from Marta's about a month ago. The owner and his daughter were very knowledgeable and very helpful with everything. You can tell that they care very much for the animals they have in their store. They have a good selection and price range on their products. I am beyond pleased with my ferret and the set up I bought from Marta's. He's such am affectionate and happy little guy. I couldn't be happier. We went into Marta's with our 4 year old daughter looking to get her some gold fish. From the moment we walked into the store we felt welcomed by the staff at Marta's. I can't begin to explain how kind and helpful John was in getting us started with a brand new aquarium along with some new fish to go in it. John explained how everything worked on our aquarium and showed us various options. He explained how to maintain our new aquarium and best care for our fish. After our purchase John gave us his phone number should we have any questions when we get home. Well turned out we had a couple with-in the first 2 days so we called John for some help and he was more than happy to provide us with the answers. After visiting different pet stores from downtown Toronto to Hamilton, this is the only place that I trust in Toronto! My boyfriend and I got a budgie and a cockatiel and they have been in great health and super loving towards us. This is a local store so it is definitely not similar to a sterilized Petco or Petsmart but you will end up leaving with a healthier and friendlier pet compared to those places. To clarify the other review about birds being stuffed in a fish tank, they put hand reared /raised babies that are not weened in there because they can't stand on a perch yet. They get so many buyers so the babies are sold almost instantly. Of course they will only let the birds go to their new home after they are weened. Would love to get more birds from them but my boyfriend is the only reason why I can't..

Do not buy your small rodents especially rats from here. Rats are not meant to be kept on woodchips because they are prone to respiratory infection but at Marta’s they do it anyways. When I bought mine they were sneezing and the same night one started wheezing like she couldn’t breathe. Ended up with a $300 vet bill the next day and once rats get respiratory illness they are likely to getting it again so only more to come. Do not support people who breed animals just to make them suffer so they can make a quick buck. Also they are very pushy with this location to up sell.

From my last visit to this pet shop, I was completely dumbfounded. Not only is this pet shop cluttered, dirty and unkept but the living conditions all these poor animals are in is inexcusable. Some birds are stuffed in fish tanks suffering with lack of air and from the looks of it they come with very concerning health conditions because of the way they’re being neglected. I also noticed that there are many empty bigger cages around the pet store that they can so easily put them in. I had a friend, who had purchased a bird from this dump and had to pay 100$ of dollars for vet care because the poor thing had various problems with its health and well-being. When I came to see the birds myself I was shocked. The birds were all stuffed together in small cage, fish tanks, stressed and very unhealthy looking. The water was also brown and the living conditions these animals are in bewilder me. A couple of employees work in there and I don’t see them trying to improve the problem. Exotic animals and any animal in general require special care and the poor little things are just suffering by being in there. I would save them if I could but that will just prompt them to purchase more and keep them in these deplorable conditions. In addition, I am completely by the fact that you do not see this taking place right in front of you and to think that this place has got 5 stars is crazy. I hope you find it somewhere in your heart to provide these beautiful animals the better care, love and compassion that they deserve in this life.

I felt welcome as soon as I stepped in and it was my first time going there. Great shop!! We bought a handraised baby budgie here. Handraised is more expensive than a general pet store budgie, but our budgie LOVES us, was friendly and tame from day one. When he sees us he clamours to get out of the cage, and though he is flighted he hangs out on our shoulders and stays close by in the house. I highly recommend handraised. We also bought a birdcage and supplies here - we got a large cage as this is recommended if possible. We dealt with the older gentleman, who was wonderful and knowledgeable, spent tons of time with us helping us choose a bird and showing us what supplies we needed, and took the time to teach myself and my children about proper bird handling and care. Highly recommended! I had no idea that a budgie could have so much personality.

We had an amazing experience at Marta'a pet shop ! We bought 2 hamsters for our 3 year old daughter yesterday and John and his daughter spent 40 minutes with us helping is choose the cage , the right food , bedding , etc . It was such a more personal experience and they both took the time to answer all of our questions and made it one of the best shopping experiences we've ever had. The amount of time spent and how he even talked to my daughter and got her involved was truly unique and he was so compassionate with her . He called the store to inquiry if they had any healthy hamsters in stock and we were in luck. The women who helped us was very kind. She did not over push sales but ensured we had the fundamental plan to give the hamster as ml basics for our enclosure. Will update with pictures in the future. I got a ferret from here, named her Molly and she was the sweetest thing. Within a week she started having stuff wrong with her ear (not sure what it was, possibly ear mites infection) and before I could take her to the vet in a day or two, she started having trouble with her breathing and passed away. I haven't got any other small animals in my home that could have infected her; I have two reptiles and a dog. None of them are sick except for her. They give you 3 business days to go to a vet to check on their health, which is hardly enough as she appeared heathy in the first week we got her, she only started getting sick bear the end of the first week. I don't recommend buying a ferret from there, at least I'm okay with it happening to me, but in afraid of what if it happened to a some kid's dear pet. they'd be devastated. I don't know if this usually happens with them, but for recently I feel they they might have some pests going around in with their small animal. Just be wary As when I got Molly her eyes and mouth and nose and butt was all clear, she was exploring and exhibited all the signs of a health ferret. I suppose my next ferret I should drive a little further from official resellers of Marshall ferrets to avoid this sort of heartbreak again

I come here for bird food and its always reasonably priced (seeds and pellets). The owners are very friendly and good people. Before I owned a bird I came here about 20 years ago and bought an aquarium and all the related supplies. I was too young to drive and the owner knew this and offered to drive me home because I had trouble carrying everything I had bought. I don't know if he remembers this... but I do. I really appreciated that and because they are such good people running an honest business I continue to choose this place over big chain stores.

Sent my husband to get fishes for our son's birthday. During the pandemic, there's only curbside pickup, so you are not allowed inside the store. So he told them what he needed. (Tank, fish, food etc). When he brought home the stuff, the tank already had stones on the bottom of it, and they were WET. So it was a used tank. I had the pleasure of cleaning fish poop out of a used tank. Absolutely disgusting! I tried calling them to ask about it, but no answer. $150 for a used tank and 4 little fishes. Sad that they would take advantage of people during these times. My husband didn't check the stuff before he left. And because he wasn't able to go inside, they just put a used tank in a box...with wet stones. No effort to hide their duplicity. If I could give -5 stars, I would.
