Great halibut & fries, portions are thick pop-tart size. Creamy coleslaw was tasty and slices of italian loaf come pre-buttered. Only downside for us, the gravy was very bland, rich color didn't match to taste. Not a deal-breaker, especially when you've got malt vinegar for fries.

Kind of disappointed in this place, especially after reading all the reviews. Positive things first: the entire staff is very friendly. I was served by four different people basically and they were all very nice. I got the haddock and poutine. The fish and fries tasted like they were fried in old oil. Both had a slightly weird taste to them. It's not overwhelming, but still noticeable. The fish itself was fresh, and the batter was very light. The poutine portion was large for what you pay. I just wish the batter for the fish was more flavourful and without the grease taste. Also the tartar sauce is not homemade. All in all, it's okay for fish and chips, but definitely not a place to rave about.

As British as it gets! Have to say I’m THOROUGHLY impressed with the covid protocols. Everything extremely efficient, really regimented adherence to distancing. Love the way ordering/payment was structured and orchestrated; safe and quick. One of the few restaurants where all staff actually follow mask mandates properly.

My go-to for fish and chips. Lack of mustard and hot sauce keeps my wife from loving this spot, but tastes great with a healthy dose of ketchup. Pretty greasy, but batter is a great balance of light and crispy. Usually add their creamy coleslaw or buttery bread.

Extremely overpriced. 2 halibut and 1 haddock cost over $47.00. By chips were raw. My fish not fully cooked. I understand its Good Friday and busy but for that price, qualtity control should be in place. ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!!

Some of the best fish and chips I've had in the city. Clean tasting oil and nice batter. Went on a Sat had Haddock and Halibut, and Halibut was worth it. One star off as they don't give you condiments automatically in the takeout bag unless you specify no lemon or tartar etc.

Fantastic fish and chips shop. We ordered white fish and haddock and chips. It was good enough for us to order a seperate order to go. In term of pricing this joint is pretty average. I have ordered more expensive with the same quality. It would've been good to have some slaw on the side and not have to ask for tartar sauce but service was good.

The Barca fish was better than the halibut. The quantities was enough although they were unable to give salt and vinegar due to Covid shortages. All in all a fine place to go I paid around $17 for one halibut one basa and a box of chips

The fish here is the best I've ever had in my life. I could only describe it as eating a steak version of fish. Most fish and chip restaurants the fish always falls apart and and is just a mess. Here it was thick, meaty and delicious. Only downside, is it is a bit pricy compared to other places. You only get Fish and chips for $13, while coleslaw and gravy are extra. Tarter sauce comes in little packets so it's kinda annoying constantly tearing them.

Nice little restaurant, but it seems to be carried today more on its past glories than its present offerings. We have lived three blocks from this place for the past eight years and because I love fish n’ chips, we often stopped there for take out dinners. We even bought an insulated bag, the same as the pizza delivery guys use, that we kept in the car to keep the meals hot and grease-free over the three-block trip home. We loved what we got from this place until just over a year ago when we noticed the fish was getting greasy. This problem got worse over time and as a result of our last dinners that we had in January 2018, we have stopped patronizing Duckworth’s altogether. The fish was so greasy, I couldn’t eat it. I will also mention that there was always a problem with the chips not being as hot as they could be, but because the fish used to be so good, we didn’t care. As the fish became greasier, our forgiveness for mildly warm chips diminished. Why they were like this is easy to explain; the fish was freshly cooked while we waited but the chips were always precooked. I know many will say our problem with the greasy dinners was the insulated bag we used to keep them warm for the less than five minute dash home. If that is the case, please explain why the fish always arrived home hot, even the fish in our last dinner, but the greasy issue didn’t show up until a little over a year ago. If you keep fried fish close to its cooking temperature, it won’t become greasy. If it cools, it will. While I do not believe the bag is the issue, I will mention that even if it is, the meals were kept in the newsprint paper wrappings all Duckworth’s fish and chip dinners are sent home in. The other problem with them is their 7:00 pm closing time. Actually, it really isn’t 7:00, but 6:50 instead. You can walk in the place at or even after 7pm, but you can’t order anything after 6:50. In this day and age, getting off work at 5, home by 5:20, and getting to your local restaurant by 6 is only a faint memory of a bygone era. To summarize, I’ll be damned if I will kill myself any night of the week to get to Duckworth’s before 6:50 pm, so I can pay top dollar for a greasy piece of fish and some cold chips.

Best fish and chips in Toronto. The halibut runs a bit on the pricey side, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The hand cut fries are fabulous. I've seen people just come in for them. My 5 star rating is all about the food. Their hours are inconvenient for me at times. Closing at 7:30pm is pretty ridiculous for a restaurant and dinner goers in this day and age, and the fryers shut down even earlier. Note for any disabled patrons: A trip to the washroom involves an enormous staircase, and in general the place is not wheelchair accessible.

I love this little diner for fish and chips. When i first visited here, I wasn't sure what to expect because it looks like a hole in the wall from outside but honestly, it's one of the best fish and chips places in Scarborough and easily my fave in Scarborough. They serve really good portions. Their menu is purely fish and chips meals so there isn't even a reason to mess it up. The people working there are always super friendly too. The one thing that is tricky is finding parking. But I have always found that fighting for parking is worth Duckworth's. Now, if only they had a location in Markham...
