There are two men that are friendly and helpful, but the younger ones act like you're annoying them if you ask a question or want to make a purchase. Really sours the desire to go in. **Edit. Went to grab 4 assassin snails, staff picked for me... because of the pandemic the line up was longer then usual( which end up being beneficial for me). Have been sold 5 or 6 fish under false names and the company still has no clue what they sold me . Don't buy the "wolf dovii" I bought 3 all 19.99 or more and 2 died right away in my tank because they weren't dovii and wouldn't defend themselves against literally anything so the 3 I bought it's own tank just to figure out a few months later it's nothing close to a dovii. They way Overcharge on low grade flowerhorns and are stingy when it comes to returns after I've spent hundreds of dollars on livestock alone . Not to mention the equipment. Not much of a selection other than old fish from trade in and a few African species. Maybe 1 or 2 people in the store who know what they are talking about and it's hard to get help on a regular day

They have a Rose Hair in a very humid setup. This is not a tropical species and they are found in rather dry regions. They need an arid style setup. I'm on the phone addressing the situation and I've already been transferred 3 times. There just need to be dry cocofiber in that setup with no misting. Have a small water bowl and the only humidity it needs is the water bowl getting over filled once in a while. Don't sell animals if you don't know what to do with them. Also $50 for a common rose hair is a rip off.

Hidden Reef Village Saltwater Superstore

One of the best Big Al's branch that we have been to so far! We have been to North York, Barrie, Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan, Kitchener, Scarborough and Newmarket. Great service from friendly staff and most of the time you can get the chance to ask all your questions about your current/future pet considerations. As a reefing community we tend to review more about their coral/marine fish set up and status. They always have a great selection of fish (some that you don't usually see in other stores such as the Juvenile Yellowtail Coris Wrasse, Dragon Wrasse and Jack-Knife Fish). This is relative to all the stores that we've been to, there are other places with a greater variety of fish, but in comparison to other Big Al's branches, we find Newmarket to be the place to go for the nice finds! As for corals, they have a relatively smaller set up for corals, but do maintain their frag tank well most of the time. There are times where you will find some algae growing all over, but one can easily brush them/pluck them off before putting in their own tanks. Their chemical, hardware and fish food sections are always well stocked!

Our baby loach has grown into a starving monster and the missing Tetras mystery points to him. Some staff are super knowledgeable and willing to help you(just like today's visit) then there the ones that just brush you off with terrible advice. Just so they can go back to what they were doing. However, overall Big Al's gives the consumer a good shopping experience and lately I've noticed that they've started to compete with Amazon which is great for the consumer. I will choose Big Al's over Amazon any day. I would love to give Big Al's 5 stars, but the staff that just don't care takes a star away.

We went to Big Al's for a replacement pump for our tank. There were a handful of customers in the store, so it was not so busy, it was around 3 on a Thursday afternoon. In the back where the fish are, there were a couple of staff cleaning tanks and another opening a shipment of fish that had just come. The cashier was at the front with another male employee. We walked around and we were looking up as we saw the pumps on the top shelf....you could tell we were looking for something. The male at the front of the store just kept flirting and laughing with the cashier as if no one else was around. My husband finally asked if he could help and asked the price of a pump....he told us the price, my husband said but why so much when I can get it at another place cheaper. The male employees answer was I don't know they just bring stuff in and we slap a price on it. Gotta love that! Anyway he went back to his flirting. Let's hope he got the date he wanted with the cashier, but we will not be returning. We have shopped their before but the rudeness of the male employee and the cashier were too much. Do your fun when you are not at work so you don't waste customers time.

Came here to purchase my first fish (2 ocellaris clowns). At this point I was a noob in the saltwater keeping community, but with this well informed staff and their kind service, I was quickly able to learn everything about the hobby. Jeff was especially helpful, for he sold me my fish and cleanup crew. He was able to answer my questions on all the different fish they had, let me put my hand in the shrimp tank to let them clean my hand, and brought me down to the basement to see their advanced filtration systems. Big shoutout to Jeff and I would highly recommend visiting if your in the neighbourhood. I certainly will be coming here for my future aquarium projects (a.k.a Mandarin fish !!)

My favourite pet store to buy fish from! They have a huge selection. Whenever I buy fish from here, I can see that they are healthy and whenever I bring them home, they don't give me issues. I can also tell that they take good care of their fish tanks because whenever I am there, there is always an employee going around and doing water changes on the tanks. The staff are friendly and very helpful - they always answer my questions. I like the variety of products that they have for conditioners, fish food, etc. However, I do notice that the prices are higher here than most pet stores, but I do find that you are paying for the good quality of the items. Overall, I will continue to go here for most of my aquarium needs.

My husband and I recently purchased a unit for our bearded dragons tank, we are so dissatisfied with the quality, naturally it came flat packed. No problem. My husband fitted a complete kitchen out from flat packed units from ikea, and never had as much trouble as he did assembling this small unit. The quality is very poor. On the bright side, all the staff are very helpful, nice clean store. We usually get food and supplies there.

This store has always been great for me. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. Any concerns or questions I have, they are always there to help. They take the time to make sure you are set on the right path before you leave the store. I set up my first saltwater aquarium with the help of the staff and it couldn't have gone any better. 6 months later my tank is still thriving. Definitely recommend their service and knowledge.

Absolutely love this location. Staff are all very friendly and nice. I'm no beginner with keeping fish- so it's nice to go to a store where there's at least one worker who knows whats going on. They will gladly answer questions if you're a beginner and don't make you feel stupid for it. It's very rare that a fish I buy from this location is sick, and if it is, they gladly refund me or exchange the fish. The workers are all very friendly- except maybe for 1 or 2 that are a little rude at times. I go often enough that I know which workers to go to for advice. Unlike the Barrie location, this Newmarket location actually cares for their fish. You can tell that most of the workers actually love fish and want them to be healthy. The Barrie location clearly does not care, with lots of dead fish in their tanks and rude workers that get mad if you ask a question. All in all, this is a fabulous location to go to!
