Disgusting Store Practice bordering on Fraud! I purchased items on line for curve side pick-up. I arrive at the store and I am charged more than the invoice I received and the invoice the customer associate dropped in the floor prior to attending to me. The front desk person brought the items up to the front to cash them out and had dropped the invoice on the floor without even looking at it. She then proceeded to weigh everything again, after it had been packed and an invoice completed. Surprisingly the new weight was more and she told me the invoice amount was wrong. I pointed to the invoice on the floor, according to her it is wrong too. Surprise surprise, one price turns out to be a different price when they decide to weigh items again. Even though it was not a big difference I felt I was being nickel and dimed and defrauded. If they can do this to a small charge imagine what they can do with a bigger invoice. I do not know if this is a One-off with an overzealous employee at the end of her shift not doing her job (the invoice she dropped was the same as I had been emailed and there was no need to redo it again) or this is what they are truly all about. Their original invoice matched mine, why did she fee the need to change it and make a new one because in her mind the original did not count? Disgusting store practice that I never expected to encounter from them. I hope they change this practice before people start going to the other five aquariums in the area.

This review is based on my partner and I experience purchasing a rabbit from this store. We bought a very sweet dwarf rabbit from this location, we noticed it was sneezing even at the petstore but thought nothing of it until arriving home. Over the week, the sneezing progressively got worse followed by white discharge . Having looked up the symptoms, it appeared to be snuffles virus. According to the store's 7 day health guarantee, we made the tough decision to bring him back, not because we are iresponsible and not willing to take him to a vet, but because from day 1 , we received a sick rabbit and there is a health guarantee. We explained to the store clerk everything that happened and what we did ( changed bedding to 3 different alternatives, removed bedding entirely with no improvement). One of the storeclerks got extremely defensive about us bringing him back and insulted by saying we should never own a pet in the future, crumbling her paper in her hand and storming off. Instead of honoring the store health policy , she shamed us in the middle of the store. The in store credit we received, doesn't mean a thing to us. The disrespect and embarrassment we received is enough for us to never return. We love animals and are responsible owners, but to shame someone for following the store's policy is disgraceful.

Upon walking into the Store. I, noticed a huge selection & variety of item's. The Store was also clean and tidy. I, also admired the shark's tank on the lower level. I, was taking it all in with all the fish there is such a wide variety. The cashier's upon checkout offered us a Discount Card on the way out before our purchase was complete the card was scanned????

Great store!! They have a good variety of reef fish and beautiful corals (frags and larger). Their service is fantastic. We wanted to purchase a Lemon Peel Angel Fish prior to Black Friday; they had a 25% off sale and agrees to give us the discount prior - you don't get this service everywhere. They are very knowledgeable! They also sell reptiles and have a very good selection.

I usually go to the whitby store, went to the scarborough(KennedyRd) once as I saw a lavender tang that wasnt at whitby that one time. good service , same marine fish stock, a little more maybe. I always liked all Big Als shops so this one too gets full stars

Big and lots of choices, a very good selection of pet items. has other pets also. I came a bit early and on delivery day, so it was hard to see what came in. Im not one to disturb cuz i want them to provide a great service. Will be back soon. I highly recomend.

This is the best pet store for fish in the area. All the fish are in the basement level, well organized in labelled tanks. We’ve been to Ripley’s Aquarium, and prefer coming to Big Al’s since you can actually buy fish on your way out. Lastly, the Sharks are no longer in the tank. Bring them back!

When walking in I was greeted by the cashier. Which is nice ????. After that no contact besides the contact I make. The sales floor does not exist. Which is sad. After that I walked into the fish room down stairs. Amazing large salt aquarium. Which desperately needs a overhaul. 2022 ????. Get down stairs it’s was like all 3-5 employees where to busy to greet me. After looking at the plants and live stock. I noticed a lot of the fish are not well, and dead in the tanks. After 20 mins with still nobody saying a thing to me. I left. I went back up stairs and asked if they sell medications. I was told no. ☠️ they house fish without medication. The public is buying sick fish ???? if they do not have proper medications to treat them at home. Very sad for the animal life . This shouldn’t be allowed ,and be a animal rights thing. The ministry should be monitoring all these stores for healthy livestock. I didn’t buy anything at the store besides sale items of food. Beware of open loops systems !!! Parasites and all !!! Roll your dice ????

Nice big store that has two levels. Staff here are pretty cool. The girl that helped us out was very knowledgeable and helped us out with our needs without trying to sell us the rest of the store. The place is super clean and the shark tank was a huge hit with my kids. We were gifted a turtle so we were all over the reptile section. Learned a lot today and will definitely be back...

I always have a great experience here. I drive almost 2hrs just to come to this location, even just to see what is in stock. Generally I go to buy fish, but I always check on the other sections too. You can't come here and not look at the reptiles, small animals, birds, and fish. The employees are always friendly and helpful as well.

I come to this Big Als location for the huge reptile section of the store (the rest of the store is huge, with a massive aquarium display and selection in the basement). Alex keeps the reptile area beautifully and is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. That makes this the best big als location for me.

It's gotten so much larger than the days I was a regular shopper. Accessories outweigh the fishes and I didn't find the variety of fishes near previous. Without prejudice, I felt the fishes reminded me of my elementary days while the accessories encouraged the grown up fish keeper in me.

Love this shop. Knowledgeable staff. Great prices. You can find some good deals on corals and marine fish. Also they have tons of other animals, birds, reptiles and smaller animals. All animals are taken care of very well. Tip, get their points card.

The cages were not cleaned at all. There were feces all over the ferret cages, as well as the bunnies. The birds were in incredibly small cages. Most cages had little to no food, and dirty water. The animals were clawing on the cages, and many looked famished. There were dead fish that sunk to the bottom of the tanks, and the stringrays had very little space.

Great store overall. Knowledgeable staff (i know nothing about aquascaping and they were able to help me find the right tools and material). Great products in store. Reasonable and competitive prices. I recommend checking out their fish area and their birds area (opposite sides of the shop). They are lacking in products for dogs and cats though, but i believe it to be more of a space issue as the birds and fish take up quite a large part of the shop. They also have a nice reptile area.

Lots of pet, humongous store with a variety of pets, we did pet a lot of little cute rabbits. They also have snakes and a lot of information ti learn about them. Not sure about prices because I don’t have any pets. Definitely a good place for people who want to get their first time pets. Staff is really friendly and helpful!

Worst pet store I have ever been to in my life. Paid $45 for 3 fish and one died two days later. When I went back to buy a replacement for half price and the manager refused to honour my warranty. I will never spend another cent at this store ever again!

Big Al's is the best place to get a pet fish. The options are endless from Beta, Goldfish, or certain specific parts. They also have plants. Seawater fish and corals. If you need to design or an Aquarium it is there also. They actually also have none aquatic plants if you wanna take a look at them. Been going here for years.. A lot better than your pet smart.

This location have fish, replies and birds. On the main floor there is a selection of reptiles and birds. The basement has all of their aquariums, a large selection of freshwater and saltwater fish. Although there are many fish tanks, there is not a large variety of fish, mostly the same type of fish. Parking a bit tight. Employees are nice and knowledgeable.

As are as the inventory is concerned visit to this place is almost similar to that of a zoological garden and aquarium. There is a vast and incredible number of choices for pets, pet food and accessorizes. The prices are very reasonable. The decor inside the store is very professional. When it comes to the customer service, visit to this place is an experience of worst customer care. This is a mission-lost situation. Getting the attention of a sales person in this establishment is a mission impossible. They pretend as if they have million of important work to do, running around pretending the poor customer is the lease priority in their job description. It is actually a leader-less business.

Everyone is very friendly at this location and more than willing to help. Some parking space is available at the back with easy access off from the main road. COVID related review: currently as of April 19th 2021 they are currently doing Curbside pickup only. No patrons in the store. Waiting is available outside the store with ample space on the sidewalks to space everyone out safely. Once you arrive, you can call the number on the door or wait in line. They allow 1 visitor inside the front area of the store where they will get your order ready and pay at the POS machine placed on the table next to a bottle of hand sanitizer. This method however does cause wait times out in the line to be a little longer with waiting your turn between 15-20 mins. This is even more so when they don't have your order ready and the employees are running around the store getting the items on your order list that you placed online. Would give it 5 stars if they had orders ready in bags or in cardboard boxes ready for pickup and payment by the time you get in the door, instead of collecting the items as you read them aloud. Even though they have a backdoor facing the parking lot, the back door isn't opened for general pick up either and all pickup is done through the front of the store where the machine is.

The choice to get a snake was not our first, but Dillon was amazing and explained everything we needed to know to make the right choice... And we did. I've been to 3 locations: 1. Mississauga on Dundas #1 2. Big Als in Scarborough 2nd best (they don't have shopping carts) 3. Big Als on Steeles (the worst of the 3 and supposedly not affiliated with the other 2). Fyi the only only that only gives exchangeson returns not payment returned..

This is my go to store for feeder rats for my python and food for my cichlids. They have a massive selection for all ranges of pets making it an ideal place for people like me who have multiple species of pets to shop for. Ive only had one bad experience with a sales rep a couple years ago but ever since he left everyone else has been friendly. I sometimes see dead fish floating in some of their tanks and prices for some products could be more competitive imho but other than that its a solid pet store.

Good experience, staff were very helpful and knew what they were talking about. Helped me (complete fish beginner) pick out a tank and fish, which we will be picking up in about 4 days once the tank has been conditioned. Staff were patient and kind, especially the ones having to deal with the door and register, as customers were seeming to not understand the limit too much and kept knocking on the door. Store itself is amazing, large space that is divided into three sections: the main entrance and tank room, housing all the tanks as well as tank accessories and cleaning supplies as well as the register, the reptile and friends room where reptiles, rabbits, ferrets and other small furry friends are kept, as well as regular pet supplies and good quality cages for your new friend (they also have birds!!) And finally the downstairs room where all the fish are kept, as well as a selection of live coral and rocks. The fish selection is very diverse and they are fairly priced too. Special attractions are the lovely koi pond at the bottom of the stairs near the register as well as a selection of beta fish, and the large show aquarium which features the shark (feedings on Tuesdays at 7pm!) as well as some other larger fish

This is my go to place for all my aquarium needs, the staff here are always so helpful and if i knew the specific names of the staff in aquatic live stock that always help me with all my questions with great patience and knowledge I would give them honorable mentions! Whenever I have a question if it can not be answered (which is rare) they are very quick to ask someone who does! I would recommend this store to anyone in a heart beat!!

Amazing interior space, squeaky clean aquariums, diverse selection of sea creatures, and they even have birds, reptiles, rabbits, hamsters. And I just get the vibe that the people who work here are true animal lovers that take pride in what they do. But what surprised me the most was their dog grooming services. Saved $20 compared to PetSmart, took less than half the time, and we were very happy with how our dog came out. Our groomer Natasha even gave us a great recommendation for teeth cleaning at $170+tax vs the $900 quote we got from our Vet. Will definitely be coming back here.

I went to this store to discuss about my cycled new tank. The tank looked beautiful but the fishes were dying. Big Al’s tested my tank water parameters free and guided me on the next steps. Since then, this place has become my favourite place to shop. Whether you are just beginning or if you are a seasoned aquarist, everybody can use a few pointers now and again. The intricacies and inter-relatedness of the core factors of a stable aquarium elude even the most experienced aquarists. If you’re a new aquarist or seasoned aquarist, I recommend this place. For how popular this location is and the great products they have, the customer service is subpar compared to other locations and other LFS. Especially the male staff working upstairs in the aquarium/tanks department. Definitely go if you need something, but avoid the staff if you want to keep your blood pressure in check.

We recently got our hoppy little friend from this location. The girl I initially spoke to on the phone as well as the girl who helped us pick our new little friend were friendly, very helpful, and knowledgeable. This location also has a large amount of other small animals, reptiles, birds, corals, fish (obviously), and even a small black tip reef shark in the big tank in the basement. Staff have always been friendly, and the selection has always been great.

January 23, 2021 Again brought new Betta and Guppies during this pandemic, they were helpful in buying. December 24, 2020 I bought betta Fish from here. It is good. But they gave me Betta food which was expired on August 2020. It's okay, it's only 2 dollars but I trusted them and they gave me expired one.

Love big al. Tons of supplies for fish and pets. Knowledgeable staff who answered my questions. They had a tortoise going for a walk around the store with a staff while I was there. Pretty interesting! It's slightly more expensive than some other stores but they definitely have a good selection of livestock and products.

Great store with many fish and better prices than other Big Al's that I've visited (Vaughan & Mississauga). Staff are also very knowledgeable. They have a 5 days warranty policy on fish so if you change your mind or if something happens to the fish within 5 days, bring it back and they'll give you a store credit. I've brought back some pleco I bought. They also have a very big selection of guppies of all kinds. So if guppies are you flavour, check out this Big Al's.

I was a beginner with very little knowledge about a home aquarium. Those guys were really helpful when I went to get some pet fishes. They properly guided me so that right now I have a good collection of pleasant fishes in my tank. They may even discourage you from buying if they see that you have a poor settings and they would guide you properly. I would recommend this place.

The location is really busy even on weeknights during the pandemic. I'm guessing a lot of people are joining the fish hobby during the lockdown. I went in to buy some fake aquarium plants and water conditioner. I went downstairs to browse the fish as I looked at the plants and the workers were running around the place in an unorganized manner with customers waiting around the counter. They were definitely understaffed and the staff look stressed or annoyed at all times. I wanted to ask questions about Angelfish and aquarium plants but there were over 28 people in the basement area and the staff were pretty obviously unable to get to everyones request around the counter so I left. Overall I would avoid bringing kids here, because the dark walkways of aquariums had staff and customers speeding quickly between them. Also, with the small space in the basement, you should probably avoid this place during the lockdown unless you're vaccinated.

Great selection of fish, reptiles, and plants. Livestock usually appears to be in good health. It can be tough to flag down an employee on a busy weekend so if you have questions or need some one-on-one assistance, go on a weekday or evening. Parents beware - no public washroom so stop with the kids before you get there!

I am in that hobby since i was 6 yrs old, and now in my early 40s. So quite some experience I have. I know when someone is talking nonsense or not..but never have I encountered that at Big Al's.. keep it up guys..

Staff tends to be arrogant, telling you care information before asking if you have done your own or asking them for advice. The staff in the birds and small animal sections are so wrongly educated in most of the animals care. Reptiles often in unsuitable enclosures like the chameleons and even an elephant trunk snake which is rather rare. Bugs are low quality, the fish are always a hit or a miss; generally low quality stock from over a year experience purchasing from multiple sections in this store.

The staff are generally pretty knowledgeable about what fish can live together and how to stock. The store has a ton of stock and they often have deals on some of the more popular fish (usually freshwater). They even have a shark in one of the tanks downstairs which is pretty awesome for a fish store. It's definitely my go to aquarium in the city.

Great store, great staff. When I first bought my real fish tank they answered all the questions I had and were able to help me a lot. Today I just went to get some upgrades on my tank and I was able to find my products I needed easily and any of my necessary question were easily answered. They have really nice and helpful staff.

Only downside is the fish room is downstairs, so it is not completely wheelchair accessible. Beyond that, definitely 5 out of 5.

One major thing i really appreciated was Big Al's Aquarium devotion to help fighting the spread of the Covid virus by blocking entrance into the actual store by letting them know what you wanted inside the entrance way. The service was still fast, convenient, and polite. They accommodated to everyone's needs and wants.

First off, all the "bad" reviews I can see are related to waiting times and not enough staff, need I remind these people we're still in the middle of a pandemic! Be grateful for the services that have returned. Secondly, my experiences whilst being this store have been amazing, I spoke to a bearded man the other day (I forgot to get his name!) who literally was the human version of fish-google. We spoke about propagating aquatic plants into terrestrial plants and he really gave me so much information about starting my community tank (I have a crown tail betta) Every time I have been in this store the staff have been so friendly, even if they are busy they let us know they'll be right with us. They know so much information and it's so nice to see that the people working in this store actually have an interest in fish or reptiles etc. Anyways, this is the only fish store I'll ever shop with, great deals, great customer service and the staff I have spoken to like to talk to me about Scotland (where I'm from!) so that's always a plus :P

My whole family loves going to Big Al's. We got our beta fish and bunny there. The selection of fish there is really big and there are plenty of friendly staff to help if you have questions. The small animals upstairs are well taken care of. Parking in the back of the store is good.

This is a good place to purchase pets and their respective accessories. It contains a great variety of fish on the lower floor, as well as reptiles and birds, and the occasional rodents and cats, upstairs. The staffs are attentive and willing to help you pick the right pet and their home/food/toys/medicine for you. So far, my go to place to buy food and aquarium stuff for my goldfish. The free parking lot on the back of the store is a bonus.

When I came to the store for animal supplies for my pet bunny, litterally no none was there. I wanted to ask a question, but the employees just ignored me, so I went all the way to the cashier to ask for bunny food. She told me its behind the glass container full of reptiles? So I went there and pretty much there was 0 toys for bunnies, but there was food! But I needed to know what brand was best so I waited for another employee to come. 6 mins later, no one. Okay, maybe I should go look for it myself. I went around the store for like 5 mins and finally someone told me it should be in the same place I checked. I left with like 1 thing, lol. Maybe I just came on a bad day, but I kinda expect more from them. But this still has great stuff, just not a lot of animals only small critters. But if your looking to buy a fish, this is the place.

Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience at all. Although there were many staff around non wanted to help. I wanted a simple Betta fish but needed food and accessories for the tank but no one helped. I also needed stuff for my dog and again no one to help. Bought a light bulb, didn’t work when I got home. came back the next day to exchange it, go home, and I ended up with the same bulb I was trying to return. Go back the next day, exchange it again, go home ,the replacement bulb was broken this time on the exterior. I haven’t had the time to go back again but hoping to return it without issue.

Friendly staff, but the birds look like they are inbred, We bought our cockatiel there and he was very small he did not grow over many months. When I went back to the store one baby had a crooked beak and was very small DO NOT BUY COCKATIELS THERE. They are very friendly, and they know there stuff about other fish, reptiles etc... and will give you tips on pets. Overall they are great and I hope the stop buying from whatever cockatiel breeder they are buying from because they are inbred!

It's a great place, the only thing I would say is that on the pet store side where the birds are, the staff seem to be less attentive to customers and more focused on each other. When you do get assistance, the help is great, the staff are friendly and mostly knowledgeable, just make sure you speak with someone in the department you need help from. Everyone under the store where the fish are, are great, there's a real genuine care from some of these staff that want to ensure the fish and creatures are being properly taken care of when being purchased. If you're getting set up for the first time, bring in a sample of water and be honest about what size tank you have, they'll help you get the right stuff. You might think that you're being upsold, and in a small care you might be, but most of it is just the staff getting you going in the right direction to get your tank to be the best it can be. The last fun thing about Big Al's is the colouring contest! Yes kids have an opportunity to win a contest each month. When checking out or leaving the store ask for a colouring page and bring it back to the store when done. You'll have the opportunity to win a gift card or other swag if they offer it. Overall Big Al's is awesome

From what I saw when I was in Big Al's they seem to meet standard pet store needs, such as dog and cat merchandise, while excelling in specialty pet items most pet stores don't carry. This includes fish based supplies, bird items and reptile equipment. The staff also seem more knowledgeable about pet requirements than standard pet stores. They carry a number of pets for sale that are also difficult to find elsewhere.

Big Al's is pretty much everyone's go to place for most pet related products, especially for fishkeeping. I've done my share of trips to the store and their selection of products is great compared to other fish stores in the city. One thing I would like to note is that the quality of the livestock you buy can be on and off. I bought 4 male guppies for my 10 gallon that I cycled for 3 months and tested its parameters prior to buying the fish; everything was in normal range. 2 of those 4 guppies ended up dying within the first week after purchase. The nice thing about Big Al's is that if your fish dies within a week of the purchasing date, they'll give you the decision of replacing the fish entirely or they will give you equivalent store credit, which is a nice touch. The staff are also really nice and helpful, however during peak hours I sometimes find that they are understaffed for the amount of customers that are in the store. I would wait for almost 10-20 mins before I was able to ask a question about a specific product.

Store is always clean and tidy. Huge selections of pet supplies to choose from. They have sections for almost every kind of pet. Animals seem fairly well taken care. Decent prices for everything. Only think I’ve ever had trouble with is buying live bugs for my gecko. The bugs always seem dead or dying. You can find better quality bugs elsewhere.

Big Al's is my favourite pet store. I have been a regular customer at the Scarborough location for 8 years now. I travel almost 2 hours to get there because it is the best. They have the best selection of merchandise in ALL departments. I have shopped there for dogs, bunnies, tortoises, and fish. Alex in the reptile department is amazing! He is so friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and always very enthusiastic to help. I prefer to shop there for reptiles and products before an exclusive reptile store near by simply because the service is so genuinely pleasant and helpful and the selection is wider. So much so, that I bought my latest tortoise baby from Big Al's again despite the fact that it was $200 more than their local competitor. You cannot put a price on quality and superior customer service. All of the staff at this location has always been cheerful and treated me very well. I can spend hours there. I won't shop anywhere else now. If you are looking to buy a tortoise, don't go anywhere else. Thanks Big Al's and all staff!

I bought everything here I needed for my fish hobby, and the staff if very friendly, helped me pick out everything i need. I give this place 4/5 because sometimes the staff don't provide enough information on aquatic live stock (in my experience), I would recommend researching what you need before you show up. Not saying they're not friendly.

Good quality of fish here at this Kennedy location. They are healthy and seem to be quarantined before selling to the public. This is definitely my one-stop-shop for all of my aquarium needs. Not a good experience when coming around 1pm on Friday as all of the employees seem to be busy doing water changes and talking with each other and not giving you much attention.

Bought the Nano Canister filter in this location and was missing parts when I open the box. I had to drive another hour back to this location and when we arrive the cashier told us to wait for the manager to check the box? Ridiculous process not to mention that we already waited in the line because there’s only one cashier. We waited for nothing because the manager did not even come wherever he’s coming from! I have to call out another staff to help us “check” the box and had to line up again to process it! First it’s not my fault that you are selling incomplete merchandise! And you should have a better system and process. If your return policy is to wait for the manager’s to check every returns is totally waste of your customers time! Meanwhile the cashier doesn’t even followed up while I’m standing in the corner and she was just casually chatting with her colleague as if no one in the line and no one is waiting! This location need a better system and better customer service!

Good store as they have a broader selection of items available for many different types of pets, with some products you cant find at any other pet store. Also you get to see lots of different exotic small animals for sale as well as a very wide variety of reptiles. Good variety of aquariums and decor. And of course they have tons of fish - the shark on display with weekly public feedings is also a fun element. However, I found the staff and manager to be somewhat unprofessional. They often talk amongst themselves at the front, downstairs, in a group. the cashiers attitudes aren't friendly and it feels like some are just there to chat with the manager and if theres no lineup, you need to break up their conversation to have them go to the till. The workers in the reptile department are knowledgeable though , and those that work beside them with the small animals do frequently let the animals play outside the cage which is great and will ask you if you need any help. One thing though I really wish would be considered by this and any store that sells live animals is the information they give to buyers. I purchased a baby ferret and they really only go over liability details. I wish they'd have information available for customers about these animals as their needs are not as general as a cat or dog so that an inexperienced buyer, like a parent buying one for a child, gets a better idea of the responsibilities of owning them to avoid them being given away later on, injured or lost. (For example, some ferrets go into dead sleep, especially young ones, and can be mistaken as dead if they dont wake up. ) just an idea that's all

Great place to but all kinds of fish. Very knowledgeable staff. They have a variety of pets for sale upstairs such as turtles, snakes, frogs, lizards, guinea pigs, bunnies, birds and ferrets. My only issue is that they should not offer a warranty if they are going to try so hard not to give you one. I have my tank running for two weeks before I put fish in it but my warrant is voided because I didn't wait a month. If you are going to buy fish there don't bother to ask for a warranty... They'll do everything in their power to void it, so better not try.

Great place to get pet stuff. The aquarium area is always full of different species of fish to choose from. They have stock of all types of accessories you may need to make your tank just how you'd like it to be. Only issues I've had is with some of the staff members either thinking they know more than you or shutting down what you may have to say. Asking questions to a staff member should not be a chore for them to answer. Some of the staff there have been there for years and its always a pleasure to see them everytime i go back. I would recommend big als over petsmart when it comes to the aquarium section. Other areas i have not dealt much with so i can't really comment how is it.

Puzzled because of the indoor area footage of the store only 6 people were allowed to be inside at any given time. Or that is what I was informed by that day's store incharge personnel. I would give zero star if I can. This pet store is the worst one I’v ever seen. Their manager can not solve problems but argue with customers and ask customers to get out of the store. Great stock of salt water equipment , fishes and Corals. Other hand staff are not really helpful, low knowledge about almost anything what I asked (or just he didn't care much). Top of that on check out the cashier made a mistake charged me more. I got the money back at least. The biggest problem was how she handled her mistake . nice selection of aquarium supplies upstairs, and a basically a whole separate bird, reptile and small mammal store (as well as dog/cat supplies) - but downstairs is really fun to visit, even just to have a look. It's huge, with a massive selection of freshwater and salt water fish. the prices were decent, too (some equipment and aquarium kits were much cheaper than amazon!) -- it was hard to find a staff member to speak to downstairs, but it was pretty busy. Definitely will come back to this store, but maybe on a quieter day.

I purchased 12 chili rasboras back in November and had they had flukes. Unfortunately I didn’t quarantine them (my fault) and it spread. After having treated the flukes, I thought it was a one time occurrence since Big Al in my experience is usually good, I went to buy 9 more neon tetras (which I shouldn’t have in hindsight after seeing dead fish being eaten in some other tank). Today, I noticed they have ich on them. This stores quality control has gone down and I am really disappointed as it was one of the better fish stores around.

Big Al's normally has quality products. Staff are typically knowledgable. But today I found two Baby Universal Leopard Geckos dead. They were babies with no food or water or hide for shelter. When I showed the guy working that station he didn't seem to care... Makes you wonder how they are treating some of the livestock... I dont think he represents the company as a whole, but someone is slacking on training and supervision...

Had to go here for curbside pick up during covid. Professionals with safety and with the selections they made on my behalf. I got some cherry shrimp and m/f guppies. I especially liked the female guppies they chose because they gave me a cool variety of colors. Blue, red and yellow and speckled. I hope to mate so that gives me a nice genepool. Something really awful has happened to me. An associate there (will be finding out her name) sold me incorrect fish food. Not only did my fish not eat the 2 servings that i fed him, it turned my tank completely black. There is clearly only a small amount of food gone from this container. I'm having to replace the $40 filter, gravel, and clean everything. After a few hours of cleaning and the water still being brown.. i know i need to take this up with head office as this is a $500 fish tank. The associate should have know better to give me just any food. I may have to purchase another tank just to clean the giant existing one..... for sure should be coming out of the associates pocket. ill be there to pick up the filter and have a talk with management. thanks ps my fish went days without food waiting for the correct one

I had a lovely experience there. I don’t go there very often as I life quite far, but I am very impressed with the bird section of the store. There is a huge selection of exotic birds and not only are they all wonderfully taken care of, they have such funny personalities. The large red parrot was playing peekaboo with one of the workers there and it was so incredible to watch. I believe her name was Alanna and she was both knowledgeable and passionate about the animals. Very friendly and approachable and showed me a lot of birds that would be good for a beginner like me. Since the last time I was there they have really expanded their selection of animals and products, and it was quite the experience.

My go to place for aquarium needs. Great selection of fish, live plants, fish food and accessories for decorations and keeping your tank clean. They even have a tank with live shark for viewing! Staff very helpful and they will try to make things right. Just keep in mind they only work there and have their limits to what they can adjust or allow. Parking can get a bit busy. Look out for their weekly specials. Saturdays I find very very busy. Other pets are there but no dogs for sale as per regulations. One more thing they do have washroom and it's clean. This Big Al's has way more than just fish! The fish/aquarium selection is fantastic, but there are also other pets too, and supplies for small animals, birds, and reptiles. It is a fantastic store! If I lived closer I would probably be going in a lot more often just to see all the animals and fish, and to get more supplies for my pets.

Great aquarium with a wide selection of tanks and products for fish enthusiasts. The staff are helpful and very knowledgeable and will spend the time to explain things to you. As a beginner fish caretaker, I learned a lot here and would definitely recommend the shop to anyone interested in taking care of fish or setting up an aquarium. My only issue was the lack of inventory (for plants and gravel cleaners) when I went in, but they told me they would restock in the next couple of days. Overall, a good experience!

There is a pretty large selection of birds at this location. I purchased a parrotlet from here recently and was told that they are still young enough to tame (5 months old). Well, I have owned birds before and this bird is not easy to work with. I’m pretty sure he was already bonded to a bird in the cage so I’m sure he’s been a little depressed. The bird is very aggressive and does not like human interaction at all. The amount that they charge for a parrotlet, which is higher than most places, should reflect how tame the bird is. I don’t think these birds have ever had any human interaction. It’s a shame because he is a very pretty bird. Also, the 7 day health guarantee does not provide enough time to schedule in an appointment with an Avian vet. I would recommend buying from a breeder for a tamer bird that’s easier to work with.

Hi everyone I know some people have good experience some people have bad experience with Big Al's but the thing is like I bought birds in December and there were babies DNA and they both are male and they told me that the birds feather is shreddeding is molting so they will grow back in 1 month I trust their word but my bird still molting so that's why I have bad experience with Big Al's they lie to me I went many times to them but they have not fair answer for me I spend $1600 I feel so bad that it's my 1 month salary i try to contact Manager, Owner and they don't reply back to me. Well they got money they are business men they don't understand normal class people feeling and value of money.

I'm a firm believer in "adopt, don't shop" but ended up here with son & daughter in law where they bought a bunny (against my suggestion). Dismayed to see the number of bunnies they have in one pen as well as the large number of budgies in one cage. Store also looked very untidy .

The people here are very friendly, they love the animals they work with and are comfortable handling them all. This store is very big, there is a downstairs with all sorts of fish and water living creatures. Upstairs is dedicated to tanks and accessories as well as birds, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and repiltiles you can buy. Some very interesting characters come through this store, but they are all lovely people excited about their reptiles and looking to be responsible and caring pet owners.

Best Big Al's we've ever been to, I cannot say it enough how much we like this store ... whether you are into fish, birds, small mammals, dogs, cats, or reptiles, this is the place, but with all that being said, the reptile section is off the charts !!! This store is what every other pet store could only hope to become ! Alex (the reptile manager) is so helpful & knowledgeable & always trying to bring something new and interesting in for people new to Reptiles and experts alike ... Going downstairs to see all the wonderful underwater creatures is also a stop you have to make while here, there are some amazing fish you have probably never seen before! We drive from the other side of the city to visit this location regularly! If you haven't been here, take the trip and visit, you will enjoy it!

I've ordered from these guys before in the past (online). I recently put in another online order & noticed they got the shipping address incorrectly. I contacted them online. I filled out an online ticket to have the shipping address corrected. We're now moving into two business days & they still haven't responded to my request. So here I am sharing my negative experience with these guys, and I've also been lucky enough to have to sit on hold with my credit card company for a little over an hour, because I had to request a stop payment. I've also filed both an online review & a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Their business practice of keeping paying customers waiting doesn't sit well with me.

**Update: keep in mind of the no refund - store credit only policy.** Took my broken canister filter there, the staff were able to figure out the issue and found me the replacement part. Now my turtle is happily swimming in clean water. Lots of selections of pets' related stuff. Very knowledgeable staff! And their price on pet fish are very good. Even better than local mom n pop shop and with properly quarantined fish...if you are trying out a something new for your aquarium, I suggest order amazon prime. Free return. But if you are buying your usual fish keeping things or need talk to someone for professional advise, go to them. It's worth the trip, you will be in good hands.

This store is big with a lots of pets (not just fishes) and pet supplies. The staff are knowledgeable in their respective area. We've been there on and off througout the years and expanding beyond fishes are great. It adds so much more entertainment everytime we go especially for the kids. Everytime we go, there's always excitement and waiting to leave with many things. The fish section downstairs is always humid and it gets unbearable after a while especially during winter with our jackets. But definitely worth to be down down we can probably spend an hour or two looking at all the variety. Always watch their weekly specials, it's more worth it with the special.

This store does not accept returns! The reason is because it’s been used and they cannot RESELL it. We only opened the package and found our bearded dragon does not even look at it. That’s why we wanna return. Returned products should not be resold anyway.

Great selection. Helpful staff. Lots of nice displays to give you ideas and help you decide what you want your own aquarium setup to look like. There are a few aquarium options on close by on Kennedy but I would say this is the best one. They also have other pet selections like reptiles, birds, etc.

This is our go-to aquarium store in Toronto. We've bought many healthy fish there, and the selection is very good. The variety of equipment and consumables is excellent; I've bought an aquarium, stand, and LED canopy there over the years. My son loves to tour the non-aquarium half of the store, looking at the reptiles and birds etc. Most importantly, the staff seem quite interested in what they do; they've energetic and will usually find you as soon as you need them, helping me make good selections. Which, I'm sad to say, is a rarity in retail anywhere these days.

I can only speak to the fish side of BIG Al’s, they have anything and everything fish. Their products are supported by years and years of PASSIONATE EXPERIENCE. You got questions, they got answers and products/inventory. As for everything else in the store, I’d go early and look around it’s AMAZING. FINISH STRONG and get some street meat from the vendor at the side when leaving.
