Simple, no premade ingredients, all made fresh in house, friendly staff, decent variety to eat in or takeout, excellent value. I've tried several items on the menu and I was very impressed every time. I'm now to the city and this place is a hidden gem, I try to go there at least once a week. They did increase the prices since I first started going there, still great value, the cook told me that it's seasonal, supply and demand, I told him "I've been telling all my friends how great this place is and once they increase the prices to 16$ a dish I'm going to stop advertising", still well below 16$ a plate and even if it was more I would still be a loyal customer. Keep up the good work!

My friend and I ordered a salmon burger and an oyster burger for takeout today. The oyster burger was good. However, the salmon was hard and burnt in the other burger. And after having the salmon burger, my friend had diarrhea, suspecting the salmon was not fresh. She had the same burger before and it was very juicy and delicious. Today's burger was complete disappointment. Not sure if this is an accident, but absolutely disappointing experience. My friend said she would not go back again.

Friends raved about the food here. It was pretty good; took a while to order and get the food (there were two staff, lunch hour on a weekday). The chowder wasn't super flavourful, but it had a LOT of seafood, which I really appreciated (and therefore good value for price).

My partner is on a cleanse that makes him sugar, dairy and gluten free... coming across this treasure was a very happy and delicious accident. I am not gluten free and I would have never known. So so sooo good! The tarter sauce was delicious too. We also bought oysters and fish to bring home. Give this place all your business!

I like this place. It’s in a convenient location, has a patio and always good service. Also not too crazily priced since it’s fresh seafood. I will say this however, I’ve had food from here a few times now and it’s never been amazing. Particularly the chowder, which I will tolerate since I love chowder, but it’s certainly not as good as I’d expected from a specialty seafood joint. The fish n chips is also just decent quality but not amazing. Certainly good in a pinch if you’re looking to satisfy some seafood cravings - just don’t expect to be blown away.

Great local seafood that is sustainably sourced. Excellent selection of salmon and other local fish. Along with some other local food products such as Cowichan Pasta, and local salts. They also have some of the basic ingredients that you usually cook fish with(think sauces and breading) Definitely would recommend their fish and chips if you get a chance, as they do a salmon fish and chips which you don’t find everywhere.

I don’t like fish and chips. However the girlfriend was hungry and at this point angry and this place seem to fit her requirements: it was open. We went in, she had the fish and chips I had a salmon burger. I was pleasantly surprised by my burger and also her fish. Unlike typical fish and chips it wasn’t greasy and tasted very good. We added a side of popcorn shrimp just for fun and they were better than anything I’ve had at fisherman‘s wharf. Not greasy at all. Super good. Service was great too. It also had nice place to sit indoors and out. What else do you need to diffuse a hangry girlfriend. I gave it 5 stars because she was super satisfied and wants to come here again. Ok.

First visit, online ordering for take out, and it was great. Excellent quality with our popcorn shrimp, creamy seafood chowder, oyster burger and Kennebec fries. Very disappointed that the drinks I ordered were not included in my pickup. After the fact, when calling in, I was told that I should have gotten them myself. If that is the case, they ought to clearly tell their customers that, either when ordering or while picking up. I spoke with 2 employees while there and no one said anything. Happily they offered to help me fix this, took my info, and I'll go in to get them later. Super interested in trying their crab takeout next!

It was great. So far my best fish and chips experience in Victoria. While fried fish is too often soaking in oil, this was not the case at all here. The fries were also really good. Very nice people there, making arrangements easily and happy to help. It was also a lovely day with plenty of sun, but I guess they did not have anything to do with that.

We spend 3 months every year for the past 5 summers in Victoria and have been buying crabs from Oak Bay Seafood. The crabs are as fresh as they get: from the tank, cleaned and cooked and ready to eat in a matter of minutes. Simply delicious and no hassle of cooking! Just last week, we tried their halibut fish and chips - wow, wish we had tried them much earlier. The batter is thin, crispy and flavorful. The fish is superb. And the fries are the best we ever have in Victoria - double fried French fries! I am reluctant to tell people about this - don’t want this gem become too busy!

I discovered Oak Bay Seafood last week on a visit to Victoria. It appeared to be a family owned business. A gentleman worked the fish counter and a lady was doing the food in the back. Even though she was getting slammed by a massive order from the table besides us, our food came out quickly and very hot! The cook was a total pro the way she handled the huge order. The store was very clean and the fish in the cooler looked very fresh! We had the halibut fish and chips and fried oysters. All items were perfect fried! It wasn’t greasy in the slightest and the protein was extremely juicy! Best fried fish and oysters I’ve ever had! the fries were top notch as well!

Just ate here and since we moved to Victoria we have been searching for the best seafood, well we found it! You can eat in or on the patio, very simple tables and chairs. I had the oysters, big plump and cooked to perfection, and the tartar sauce was super good. My husband had the halibut and chips and loved it. A big chunk of Halibut with a light batter nice and juicy. The chips were crisp and crunchy to the last bite. The staff was super and the place was clean. They said if we called ahead they would cook a crab and have it ready for us to eat when we arrived. We will definitely do that. Prices were very reasonable and all the fresh fish looked beautiful. We will be getting our fish here and eating here. YOU GOTTA TRY THIS PLACE

I ordered Ling Cod dinner including small chips tartar and coleslaw to go. Food was ready right on time. Lack of condiments only ketchup and white vinegar. Took food home Ling Cod delicious moist batter perfect. Tartar sauce very tasty. Only issue was chips did not seem fresh. Lots of hard burnt bits only a few ok ones. Disappointed.

Terrible fish and chips. We ordered from the Doordash app for delivery which was prompt. The meal we received however was awful. The both the Ling cod and the Halibut was overcooked, dry and tacky. The Halibut tasted like it had been marinated in lemon juice. The chips were old and stale. The red cabbage slaw has cilantro in it for some reason and was bitter and under seasoned. I expected a lot better from a fish market but it seems they only know how to sell fish and not cook it.

Sometimes good sometimes not ok. If you want good fish and chips and tacos try Finest at Sea in James Bay, Red Fish Blue Fish near Wharf or Fish on Fifth in Sidney. Oak.Bay Seafood used to be good. After it moved from downtown to Oak Bay, the quality has somewhat deteriorated and one or two people have huge egos. For example, live spot prawns are dead instead of live. They should not advertise them as 'live' when they are dead. Finest at Sea is still the best place to get them. It is a much busier place for getting fish and chips, fresh fish and live spot prawns.

As a native Haligonian I have had my fair share of seafood and I am happy to say this is BEST gluten free fish Ive ever had. The ling cod was perfect ( lightly battered, not greasy) and the fries yummy! Tartar sauce was light and didnt overpower the fish. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond :)

Only place in town to get excellent gluten free deep fried seafood. Also, their selection of fresh local offerings is also really nice. The only knock against them was the last time we had fish n chips there, they'd obviously refried the chips. They were super greasy and chewy where they've always been excellent (light, crisp, flavorful) in the past. They're still miles better than most tho!

Super friendly group of folks that can throw down some serious seafood. We ordered a couple of Dungeness crabs near closing time, cooked and ready to eat there. Staff didn't mind, we feasted as they closed up. Get there with more time and choose from soups, chowders, salmon, fish-n-chips, salads. They even have a small selection of beers and locally produced soft drinks. This place made our first anniversary memorable.

As a restaurant: Fish was tender and flavourful with a crispy, thick batter (perhaps too thick?). Flavourful for sure. Big portions of fish. Chips were fine. A bit on the pricey side once you hit Ling Cod and up, but hey, this is Oak Bay.

Store is very clean. There was a small selection of seafood, both fresh and previously frozen. Prices are very comparable to those in the grocery stores. There is a large selection of frozen seafood and soups and a.selection of aioli and other food stuffs. There was a selection of hot smoked and cold smoked salmon. They have a water tank stocked with crab, oysters, clams and mussels. There is also a take out section for fish and chips as well as shellfish. Service is friendly and informative. I will be back for more.
