This place is awesome. Huge platters of local food. The decor is very unique with the signatures of past visitors plastering everying. We were lucky to get a table as it was very full the whole night. If I'm back in town I'm coming back

Jill Oddities

Great atmosphere!! Excellent fish!! I normally do not eat fish but their's were fantastic!! We came back a second day for dinner!! It was a little pricey, about $37USD each. Would definitely come back again.

Jasmin Baladad

Ok, it's the place to visit while visiting Yellowknife, the fish is very good (althought twice the price of anywhere else) but the service is one of the worst I ever had in Canada. Btw they don't provide staples should you ever want to add your card on the wall, bring a sharpie.

Rowan Novinger

Great serving size and taste!

Jeff Bain

Tasty fish. The house salad dressing is the stuff of which dreams are made.

Lifu Sun

Must try the Arctic char grilled, salad dressing is bomb and fries r so crispy! Bread is made fresh daily!

sahar hosseinirad

Bullocks Bistro is a cute gem on one of the islands. We went for lunch were not disappointed. The grilled artic char and grilled white fish were fantastic.

Robin Farquharson

The food is perfectly prepared and deliciously, bread is fresh made and baked in house too!!. The staff are also excellent and fun.

RK F

Fun rustic feel. Large portion sizes. Everything was a little too sweet for my tastes but I think that is a positive for most people. And their fresh bread is heavenly.

#Lama Crazy

Love it!!! As someone dining alone they made me feel extremely welcome. The food was so good I could come back every day. I highly recommend this place.

Ashleigh Mattern

Good conversation and food in a welcoming and interesting enviroment. Choice is limited by what is caught on the day which results in fresh food. Service is a bit slow late at night but that is not a problem. (Somewhat of a tourist trap although the food does not suffer)

Randy Straker

Great food. Great options. Great experience. Lots of fun in here and awesome food... ohh I said that already. Must seriously be amazing food then I guess.

Jason “TecIT Solutions” Gudmundson

Fantastic meal of pan fried whitefish, salad and fries. I make a point of going there when I visit the Knife. One of my favourite places to eat!

Cindy Wong

Fish was amazing, huge portion cooked perfectly. Service was quick and friendly. Must visit and take some time to read all the messages and artefacts left behind over the years by visitors from around the world.

chloe

Delicious! I love their homemade bread, so touching!

lanquino sirach

Whenever in Yellowknife, anyone SHOULD never miss dining at this place Bullock's Bistro. This is my second time, today, in a year. Im happy to meet the most energetic Jojo, a great chef, who connects well with customers and is very transparent at her services. I always crave its Fish and Chips. Jojo never missed providing the best taste, from homemade tartar sauce to fita dressing to home made bread and of course excellent customer service. Thanks to her co-worker too. This place is truly amazing. Nothing fancy but all real and dedicated ????. They serve so generously. My pictures would show what it takes to be blessed dining here.

Sunset Travellers

It has a well-deserved reputation for being a must got to spot. Menu is almost entirely fish which I don't eat at all but my bison steak was incredibly delicious.

Shadowarez

lovely restaurant, the fish is really fresh and tasty. I also like the way they season the fish, the food is not cheap, but definitely need to try!

Yu Taejin

Codfish and chips healthy portion size. Fresh not frozen????????????????????????

John Rabesca

The deliciousness of this establishment is not only legendary, but for at least the six years I've come here has earned every letter of legendary.

A H's

Pricey but delicious fresh local lake food. Fish are amazing. Their salad dressing is the bomb.

Andy Luu

This place is amazing. The interior is covered with signs, signatures, business cards - history really. And the food is amazing. As soon as we sat down they brought us this amazing house made bread and dough ball plate - I could live off that bread. And the hunter's lunch was extremely yummy.

Adrian Hodgson

Spectacular food and a fun quirky atmosphere. Pan fried whitefish was incredible. Generous portions so come hungry. Everything was house made and you can tell. From the fresh baked bread to the ridiculously good house salad dressings. Tip: try the feta dill dressing on the fries.

Jeff P

It's hard to find words to describe what you will experience here. It costs a bit more but it's well worth it. Fresh fish, deep fried, grilled, you name it. And the sauces... oh, the sauces. I want to go right now.

joe host

Amazing deep fried pickeral and salad with the dressing was out of this world! Definitely a place to go if you are in Yellowknife!

Hassan Bin Naseer

This is a good place to get some fresh fish and chips. The service is top notch to.

John Park

There are so many people and so crowded.. if someone don't make reservation, have to wait more than a hr at outside and employees are super busy. That meaning is they can not managed who comes early even write name on the paper. Maybe some people write down name former than yours who comes after you.

Sophie N

If I could give more stars I would. World's Greatest fish and chips. You cannot say you have been to Yellowknife until you have been here.

Our journey

I make of point of coming here everytime I'm in Yellowknife at least once. The food never disappoints, the service is amazing and the atmosphere is the most unique you will experience anywhere!

W Sung

Awesome place. Pricey but fish is amazing, not to mention that dressing they keep in a fish bottle. All you haters are going to hate the service, but you have to realize that they are offering you piece of history. History where there was less fake smiles runing around you to get bigger tip. So all of you that don't appreciate that I recommend to go back to their beloved McDonald's.

Karen Tse

Scrumptious fresh local fish, generous portions. Cheerful attentive staff. Vintage venue in Old Town that you won't forget.

Reece Larson

this place is amazing ! they have a small menu which is key ! and secondly the service is amazing!

Sylvain Leblanc

Amazing good fish and a great vibe you will find here.

Christine Whalen

When in Yellowknife a must stop. Had the Arctic Char, massive piece. Pan fried and yummy. The other two are are table went with the White Fish and both loved it. I’ve been here a few times and it’s just a cool place.

Cereal Sarah

As always - amazing food, great service. Highly recommend for all who love simple, yet delicious and fresh fish, bread (baked daily on site), salad and sauces (they have fries too, my friends said they were fresh and yummy)

I am a truck driver from Southern Alberta. I have heard about Bullocks Bistro from a few people now. I stopped in there today and it was by far the best food I have ever eaten. The portions are huge, the price is great and best of all the staff are absolutely awesome. I will definitely be back. Well worth the trip to Yellowknife by it self!????????????

Nikki

Faantastic food!!! One of the best fish and chips in the world...no regrets!! Service was great. Seriously pop in when u r in town! Another thing is big portion alert!

Nabeel Jaffer

The buffalo ribeye and the grilled Arctic char was delicious!!!

Ray Du

I love every dish i have ate here! Also their staff are always in a good mood ????

Anwar Alkuwaykibi

Amazing food! Fish are fresh caught. The service is fantastic and the ambiance is awesome! If you have to go to only one place, this would be the place.

Pierre W. McGowan

I want to go there so bad, I've heard stories of this place! You know you made it when people in North Carolina are talking about your food....

Agnes Makuch

Great portion sizes and very fresh. Place was busy but I thought it was worth the wait. The bread is served with every order and baked fresh daily. Prices are on the higher side but good occasionally

Chester Cheng

Fish is good, bread is good, beer is GOOD. It's not a very big place so expect some wait. We were a group of 12 and managed to find a place on the deck to sit comfortably to enjoy the meal and fresh summer cool breeze. Made the day!

Joseph Tam

Cool Vibe While it's a bit expensive, the food is quite good (tough to mess up fresh fish). Very busy, and does not do reservations. Late in the day, they run out of a lot of the menu. Worth a visit.

Awesome fresh cooked catch of the day done grilled, pan seared, or deep fried. Also serves bison or reindeer. Little pricey but the food is absolutely amazing

Aron Pedersen

Omg the pan fired fish was the most delicious meal I’ve ever had!!!! I personal super like it!!!! Even took out one when I left.

Josh Tischart

I went there back in 2009 and it was the best fish and chips I have ever had.

Micah R. Lonbeck

They have the most amazing fish I have ever had. The salad dressings are phenomenal and the level of flavor is incredible. The cozy atmosphere makes this a spot you cannot miss.

Tim Staton

It's fish and chips. Can't really go too wrong.

Reyner L

Great place, with great people. Seems expensive untill you realize most fish is locally sorced almost every day. Fish is cleaned and fileted in house. MAKE A RESERVATION! This place was packed when I arrived wednesday evening.

Jeremy Oelke

Very down to earth staff polite and food is cooked in front of you and prepared very well. Good variety of dishes and very tasty and sufficient. When you do come, come hungry you will leave full you will get your money's worth....its worth It!

Al Risden

White fish steak is so good!! And the sauce for salad and the bread before meal is so good!!!

sooan L

Friendly staff and good food

Rick Windsor

Bullock's Bistro is the best option that we could find for very good, unpretentious, honest local food in YK, The atmosphere is somewhat transgressive. Kitchen and cook are integrated into the room, and you can sit at a bar or around the tables. You can write whatever you fancy on the tables, walls or ceiling. Or you can staple on them your card, photo, or whatever you fancy. The menu offers a variety of local fish and meat, and the service is relaxed and friendly. Just do not miss it.

Dixon Pictures

Great place and great food. The whitefish was amazing, the sauce on the whitefish was super good. The salad was fresh and the place had a cool ambiance. It was busy but if you can get a seat it is worth it.

Michelle Causton

What a cracking place. If you get to Yellowknife check it out! The food is amazing and the portions are huge. I wanted to try everything on the menu but unfortunately I couldn't! The chips I had were crunchy and nice and the fish was perfect. The prices are expensive-ish but it's absolutely awesome value for money. If you go, don't expect there to be a full menu available. They just have whatever they get fresh which is even better!

Yvonne Ng (Yvonne)

Eat this place 3times during my one week stay in yellowknife. All fish and steak meal that we tried were good. Little line up at busy time. One problem, We ordered one dish(pan fried fish. It was that good!!!) on all of our 3 visits, but, taste different every time. It was funny. I guess depend on who the cook is... but, it was all tasty!

Philip Mario Pompili

Absolutely fantastic food and enthusiastic services. I was away from home in Yellowknife for a weekend. The waitress/cook at Bulllock's really made me feel cheerful and content, not to mention the food was delicious as well!

Michael

Always amazing fish/chips Friendly Staff, Best place in city for fresh fish ????

Vivian So

Great fresh fish expertly prepared with fresh cut fries, a salad with a great dressing, and fresh bread. You can also get bison and reindeer/caribou on the menu.Very good selection of local Northern beers and other Canadian favourites. Service good from quirky staff. The decor is unusual. Don't let the word Bistro in the name fool you. It is much much more casual...a true Northern Exposure experience. I eat there at leasdt once everytime I have a business trip to Yellowknife. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Stenvne Thomas

I'm not a huge fish eater. That said, this was my favorite meal in all of Yellowknife. The staff here is great, and the fish is fresh and unbelievably good. The portions are large, so come with an appetite. I will talk about this place for years to come, even if I never make it back to Yellowknife, it's that good.

Richard Lin

Excellent local fish and meat, cooked and served in a warm, friendly environment. Service is very good and the food tastes divine. Of course even the pan-fried fish was heavily buttered and/or oiled, so the taste buds are happy but the food ends up being quite heavy. Large portions so that a fish dish, which comes with salad and fries, is plenty for two. Would be nice in the summer as they have outdoor seating overlooking the Lake.

Trevor Seifried

My pan fried Inconnu was cooked to perfection with the teriyaki glaze on top. Salad has a flavorful vinegratte to go with. The portion is huge for myself, but it's so good that I ended up finishing it without realizing. It turned out to be my linner or dunch. Great vibe, great service, delicious food. Probably the best fish I've ever had in Canada. Definitely not my all day to go place because of the pricing, but it's definitely worth the price for an experience.

Hertz Vaughan

I absolutely love this place. Amazing atmosphere and delicious food. One of my favorite restaurants EVER. I left my picture on the wall and wrote a message, it would be awesome to see them again when I visit Yellowknife

Ian Hopfe

Pricing on par with some of the higher end restaurants in town. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and is constantly packed with people. The food was quite good (but not overly spectacular) and the portion sizes are more than enough for one person.

Anne Nguyen

The fish and chips — are AMAZING! The cod fish and chips were out of this world! I have had the chance to have fish and chips in every east coast province and across the pond in Scotland and England. This Cod fish and chips was amazing —- and the fresh bread and atmosphere is unlike any other! Also for your salad they have a homemade in house feta dressing — a must for your salad!

Charles

After touring Old Town on a spectacular day we ended up at Bullocks to see for ourselves what, we had heard from multiple people, was the the best fish and chips they had ever had. From the unique atmosphere and decor, to the location just beside the lake, to the huge portions of Pan Fried Arctic Char and fries (the salad with their in house dressing was also to die for), I can confirm that was the best dining experience I have had in a while. Hats off to that chef who whipped up such goodness!!

Jimmy D

Highly recommended by locals as well as myself. Got buffalo ribeye steak and fish chowder, which were both great! Staffs were very friendly. Make sure reserve in advance to avoid waiting in the minus degree temperature!

Andrea Gray

Totally overrated and too expensive for what you get. Sure the servings were huge but it was VERY ordinary food. The chips were overcooked and soggy, the fish was mediocre and the "salad"....some lettuce with grated carrot on top....why bother? The waitress treated us like we were an inconvenience and rushed us...even though it wasn't that busy. There were only 2 things left on the menu. Regretted going and really annoyed at paying top $$ for it.

Caren Punton

Very good food. Can be a bit busy but worth the wait. Prices for what you get are very fair. Good luck getting the same quality of fresh fish in a restaurant anywhere else in country. Big Mac is 14$ or pay the extra 20$ and enjoy a good local establishment. Great local atmosphere. Enjoy!!

Ashiv “Hans” Dhondea

Not cheap at all but the food is excellent. Normally I get white fish but this time tried the bison. Recommend.

Hedia B

Amazing place to go probably the best place in Yellowknife for a quick bite, the wait staff are amazing and Alie is an amazing chef with real talent

Shinyoung Kang

Probably the best fish I've ever had. Simple cooking and big portions but with their own flare. Worth checking out for anyone coming up to yellowknife!

Emily Shek

Amazing food, had the Arctic char with fries and salad. Homemade tartar and dill/feta sauces were delicious as well! Very interesting idea that you can staple your card or sign the wall/ceiling!

Joel Hamilton

I’m glad I chose the recommendation from one of the staff, which was pan-fried pickerel. It was amazing! I’ve tried many fish and chip shops (chippers) from all over the world, and this one deserves recognition. The fries themselves were standard. The salad dressing on the tables is tasty: sweet and tangy. I wish I could have this more frequently as I am only here visiting the area. The decor is fun and keeps you looking around. Bring along a picture to add to the community walls; Wish I had!!!

Alyssa Thunstrom (Sask Explorer)

Best fish and chips I have ever had. The selection of fish is all super fresh and the pantries glaze is sweet. This is a must eat for any tourist.

Ian McKenzie

looking for fresh fish dishes? just come here Cod, Trout are awesome. Even the portion size of the dish looks large, my wife and I are ut all. YUMMM ;) P.S. if you come more than 2 persons, you should make a reservation in advance.

Deevs

Food is so so, not good as it recommended, it may be because of not that suitable for me.

Karen Holmes

Very friendly and cool place. For sure check out when you at Yellowknife. Put your name or pics on the wall so you can came back years later and see then again. The steak was ok but very special with their home made garlic sauce. deep fried fish is? amazing.

Ting Jiang

Delicious, wild fish from the waters in our region. Unique ambience. Definitely recommend. Expect to pay $100ish for two people. ????????

Jason S

The best fried fish I ever have in Canada! Love whitefish more though cod is excellent too!

Mengi Bus

First rate fish and chips..I had the white fish... they have amazing home made dressings and sauces. The fresh made bread was a 10.. Staff was friendly and helpful. .. you won't be disappointed if you choose to eat here.

William Garcia

The most amazing family atmosphere, fish was so full of flavour and their cinnamon buns were flippin amazing, staff was super cool and welcoming! I'll definitely be back!!! Cheers!

Michelle Leger

Good Friends.. Great Food, Fantastic Environment.. what is there not to Love from this Yellowknife staple.

Mark Drake

Fresh, Sightly Rustic, Charming, Busy, Not the Cheapest, and Fun Restaurant in YK. We had the Bison Steak, Grilled White Fish, and Deep-fried Cod, which all were Delecious. Place can get Busy and was Already Full just After Opening. We might Go Back Again if we have Time.

Minchul Jeong

This place used to be a favorite for decades. My last visit was disappointing to say the least. Same prices, but smaller portions, and bland as oatmeal. I rarely leave negative reviews but in this case, Bullocks is a Yellowknife institution and must step up to its reputation.

Alessandro Putzolu

Great straight-to-the-point service and good food! Tip: make a reservation before you go.

Jonny Chase

The server was a little snappy but it was really busy so I can understand. The food was awesome, I would go again if I have the chance. The inconnu was very buttery

Owen H

Always delicious food in here. If you can finish their servings, good for you. Price is a little pricey but the servings are more than usual. The service have been wayyyyy better than how it was many years ago. The girls are all smiles from the time we entered until when we paid. If you come in the winter time you have to bring a lot of patience as it gets full for lunch and dinner. Be prepared to be waiting outside in frigid temperatures. I'm a local and I couldn't get in a few times.

Shahin John Nzr

Went for lunch. Ordered the pan fried Great Slave Cod. Hugh portion but everything was absolutely delicious. Bread, salad, salad dressing, fries and of course the fish.

Mary Shaw

I arrived with my family around 1:30pm 31 Aug 2019, saw groups of customer were asked to leave the dinning room and wait outside by a lady behind the counter, who’s tone was very unfriendly. So, I left my family waiting outside, I entered into the restaurant and asked another lady, (who’s busy too) how could we get a table and I didn’t mind to sit outside, but she just showed me a long face and said the deck was not her business! Thus, I walked outside and told my family it seemed not a good day to visit this place, but they wanted to check any takeaway orders were available, then I returned and asked the lady behind the counter, once she saw me, and yelled rudely: “What’s up?!”. I told her what I wanted but she just replied a loud “No!”. So, I just walked away with my family. Seemed like the crowded customers turned the staffs into a very bad mood! If they’re over loaded, why didn’t they just put up a sign to tell the customers how long they have to wait outside the restaurant? Or, tables are only available for booking?! Maybe the owner just doesn’t care how rude the staffs are, as most of the customers are just tourists, not expected to come back!

Chris Thompson

As i expected, really crowded and busy, and wait long time, but it worth it to wait and pay.

Dora Yang

I'm from St. John's, Newfoundland, and grew up eating the best fish and chips on the planet (IMHO). I have tried fish and chips in other cities, and it wasn't close to what I ate back in St. John's. This is the only spot outside Newfoundland where the fish and chips is amazing. Large portions, delicious. A little on the pricey side, but the portions are big enough you could split with your significant other (or whole family for that matter). Also a very unique atmosphere in that the walls and ceilings are covered in authographs, graffiti, and momentos.

WISAN PIRIYAKITPAIBOON

Very good experience, eat muskox steak.

Juan Carlos Rovetta

Summer days with no sign of the darkness of nighttime calls for eateries that can appease the restlessness of the day-to-day meandering and--for the uninitiated--lack of sleep. Bullock's Bistro, while expensive, is one joint that I had stopped by numerous times, without a sign of diner fatigue. The walls are plastered with photos and (if can recall) scribblings of patrons past that have left a mark to signify the lasting impression of the place. Fish are freshly caught and prepared in a myriad of ways, which, when served with the housemade bread and chips, deserve the attention of their house vinegar. A pint of beer is all you need to wash it down, while gazing out into the scenery while on their patio. For new customers, don't be dissuaded by the price. Bollocks has some of the best fish and chips you can get--and that's saying something.

John Tino

Remember to have reservation! The best fish I've ever tasted and strongly suggested pan fried fish, the sause for pan fried is the magic thing. Staffs are very nice.

Jay Long

Great-tasting seafood! The first time we were there, the grilled arctic char was recommended to us; the second time the deep-fried cod. We loved them both!

cfirstname mlastname

Two words: Delicious Fish! The decour is "unique" to say the least and located in one of the older buildings in Old-Town, this place is popular with the locals and tourists. Come hungry as the portions are huge. Place a reservation if you're planning on visiting on busy days like Friday and Saturday.

DOOHO MAENG

I soooooo wanted to hate this place after such a long wait to get our food. But the white fish I had was one of my top 3 fish dishes of all time. The fries and salad were great too.. The salad dressing they had in a bottle on the table was great. Even the homemade tartar sauce was excellent. It is spendy but worth it...go when they are not to busy. They take reservation.

Chris Huggins

Nice place with a great atmosphere. Lovely food too

Katy Hung

Very good fishes! We got deep fried cog and pan fried pickerel. The pickerel is definitely my recommendation. It is just so delicious. The cog is very big and fresh! …

Amy Sciezer

Authentic Cuisine, in one of the most historic settings in the NWT of Yellowknife in a heritage Building of amazing character, Best Panfried Char ever. With several other varieties of delightfully Delicious additions. A MUST VISIT AND TRY WHEN IN THE AREA

Matthew Deans-Beynham

Great food and great ambience! Inconnu fish dish is a must eat dishZ staff are overloaded and too busy to catchup with service. They are very friendly and they provide a great service when they have the time for it.

Karen Mak

Deep fried arctic char with vegetables and potato fries was great!! I enjoyed every bite.

K.D Transport

This place has great food and great character. I have visited this place twice and was not disappointed. Although it can get busy here, I believe it is worth the wait. Years ago the staff could get snappy but that is what make the character here. It was fun and I will visit again if Im back in Yellowknife!

Ponan Li

I'm not a big fan of fish and chips but I came here to try since this is the hottest restaurant in town. This restaurant totally changed my view of fish and chips!! You have to make reservation ahead of time as the waiting time for walk in is usually 1.5 hours. Nobody will try walk in basically. Once you are seated, the server will go through the menu with you quickly as most customers are tourists and first time customers. They have no time to wait as this is a very busy tiny restaurant. You can only make your order once so think carefully what you want to order. The special of day was Coney on the day that we went and the lady there recommended us to try the pan fried Coney and omg It was one of the best fishes I had in my life!! It's super tasty! We also ordered the deep fried white fish as a classic fish and chip, and the rib eye steak. The white fish was also good. It's very juicy and flaky. The steak was so so because we ordered a medium but it came as well done. We didn't bother to ask to replace and it was nicely cooked but I guess it tasted better if it was a medium. If you are a drinker you have to try their beer! I forgot what the server said but I think she said it's a local beer. The label was super cute!

Agnes Chua

Good food; great atmosphere!! One of two ‘must visit’ places in Yellowknife.

Philippe Di Pizzo

Delicious pickerel and great slave cod fish and chips.

Raymond Taylor

Only 2 hours wait for Bullocks Bistro, famous for wild caught Fishes & Bison Steak. Only 1 Chef, 1 waitress, 1 bartender, lots wall Graffiti, messages & a Taiwan flag. Food are tasty. Portions are generous. Service is good. It is the place for Bison Steak & Freshly caught Fish & Chips

Philip Kelley (philk647)

Good fish. Free fresh baked bread. Probably the best seafood restaurant in town.

Donna Barnhardt

The best fish I have ever eaten from Paris to Victoria. Fresh is an understatement ... casual and friendly .. if you can't relax here. .".lighten up dude" life's to short

Bill DeYoung

Best fish I've ever tasted! I would recommend sharing with someone else as the potion is very large. Absolutely delicious though

Mike Clory

We were hesitating whether to try Bullock's Bistro as we heard someone having to wait for 3 hours to get a seat the day prior. It was holiday season (after Christmas) hence it's crowded. We are lucky that we for a table within 30 mins. They served bread immediately and we were given menu immediately. The portion is huge and the fishes are fresh. Service is very prompt too. Highly recommended!

Glen Whelan

Definitely will go again on my next visit. Very fresh fish - huge portions. Friendly staff, fresh bread baked in house. Don't let the appearance deceive you.. this is a gem.

Matt Paulsen

We shared one order of grilled trout and salad and fries which was spectacular and lots of food for two people. They started us out with warm homemade bread, and we enjoyed a sweet cinnamon dough nut ball on the way out of the restaurant 'on the house.' Altogether a really wonderful, memorable meal. Can't wait to go back!

John Zhu

Expensive but yummy especially the bread. the owner was super friendly but the waitress was not.

Ryan McKinley

A must see place in Yellowknife amazing food. Fantastic portions and a terrific atmosphere. You have to stop here at least once.

Ethan Zhou

Great food. Fresh fish caught locally. Execpt for the Arctic Char. That is caught in Cambridge Bay. Fresh cut fries and fresh baked bread.

Morgan B

Lunch

D Dasilva

Great fish, great bread, great sauces.

sandy w

Best fish and chips in the world. Fresh caught in Great Slave Lake. Bullocks Bistro was very busy when we visited Yellowknife both in summer and in winter. If in Yellowknife do leave town before having a meal at Bullocks Bistro.

Vincent Lu

The fish was not bad, But The Service was Terrible, the waitress sucked big time! She was rude at least twice, and we were even told that if the place got too busy ,we may have to change seats! Even while we were eating our meal! And when we went up to pay my boyfriend left a very small tip and the waitress had the nerve to complain . How could she not know by now how she is with customers! If she is anything like she was with us, I can`t believe no one complained about her yet! Won`t be going there again! The only reason I even gave it 2 stars was out of respect for the fish that died for our meal!

Damien Prud'homme

Amazing and unique place. Had the pan fried lake trout at the recommendation of the chef. Was amazing. Hot bread was delicious. The atmosphere and staff were so great. My colleague let me try a taste of his Buffalo and it was also fantastic. Can't say enough good stuff. We were fortunate to arrive early and get a seat at the bar without a reservation. Definitely need to call ahead if you're planning to go. Keep up the great work!

Derek Pang

One of the best places i have ever eaten at..its a charming spot with solid eats.

Heather Hunt

Even though the restaurant changed owners, the quality is still very much top shelf. Absolutely simple and delicious fish. Well worth the $. You only live once.

paul wilcken

Love it. Great staff, delicious food, fantastic atmosphere; as in theres everyone from every walk of lifes signatures and whatnot on the walls. Its a must go if you're in Yellowknife! The only downsides as far as i can tell with my multiple visits, is that theres limited seating, no draft beer and a fairly limited menu.

Mitchell Callahan

Great food! We had the deep fried great slave lake cod. They give you fresh bread! People have signed all over the walls and tables and the encourage you to. Staff are super friendly and they had great relationships with locals.

Kimmy Chen

Very few table, better book in advance

James Wong

Dont miss it. make a reservation if you can, well worth a wait if you cant.

robert woodward

We had bison and the CHAR! I had been waiting for years to try char and it exceeded my expectations. This is no ordinary restaurant! Seek out the guest book...you will be very impressed.

Kaila Walton

This is one of the weirdest and most amazing places I have ever eaten in my life. It is as if someone took a dive bar and gave it fine dining food and an upbeat atmosphere but left the building itself. Was definitely questioning my decision when I saw the menu prices and looked around but I have to say that the food here is hands down some of the best food I have ever eaten. As someone who worked in kitchens for years and went to school for culinary, this restaurant still managed to exceed every expectation I ever had for steak, for fish and chips, hell even the salad was amazing. Absolutely a must see if you are visiting from out of town.

Unique environment with loads of character and history. Great food: we had grilled halibut with salad and a large bowl of the seafood soup, both fresh in quality and style; even the table bread stood out with a sweet ‘n salty approach. …

Ying Woei Ooi

Best pan fried char I have ever eaten....went back twice on my yellowknife trip.

Troy A

Simply put, the best steak I've ever eaten in my life. It is worth a trip to Yellowknife just to visit this eatery. The vibe was amazing, very cozy environment. Little expensive, but honestly worth every penny.

Limitless

Best local food with super kind staffs in the Good atmosphere! Highly recommend! The cold is worth!

실버푸들콩

We had dinner here! We chosen this place because was one of the most recommended restaurant in town! The menu it isn’t very various, but all food that their proposed was really inviting! We got two bison steak and 1 Artic Char and was all really good, just the sauce on top was too reach.....for me! The atmosphere was.....”different”, not for me, friendly staff and good quality/price! I think this is the best restaurant in Yellowknife!!

Alisha Edgelow

Cool venue with amazing food and great friendly service! Bring your appetite and be prepared for a delicious buttery experience ????

Edith Hoi

Ate pan fried Arctic Char for the first time. Best fish I have ever eaten. Friendly fast service too.

Ben Pol

Small space, very friendly staff!! Waited a little over an hour for a spot, but it was worth every minute! The waitress/hostess is amazing and very welcoming. The cook (a very young lad) was amazing, the food was delicious!! Perfectly cooked and seasoned! All the flavours enhanced each other! Would definitly recommend everyone eat here! Would definitly go again!

Pricey but when in Yellowknife, you must go. Funny little dumpy place, self serve drinks (which worked well for me), and the best grilled Arctic Char I've ever had. Friendy workers. No menu..no check. You just tell them what you ate & drank on the way out, and pay. I get that this place isn't for everyone, but I loved it. Try the grilled Arctic Char.

Dallas woodworth

The fish was very good and the staff was very friendly. Fish was fresh and the meat was firm and flavorful. Strongly recommend to give it a try.

V Jacob

Apparently unbeknownst to me they are reservation based, and we walked in and promptly got seated! What luck. Food was AMAZING and was the first thing on the checklist for YK was to have local fish. What a great first impression of the city!.

Vedran Karl

I loved it! The meals are higher priced, but the fish is caught fresh from Great Slave Lake. Never had the pleasure of trying the steaks but they sure did look good. They have a house salad dressing that is the best I've ever tasted! Their tartar sauce is one of a kind too, so tasty. The cook/chef performs magic when she prepares the food. I really enjoyed watching her. One of the waitresses is very delightful in fact both her and the chef are. Through the high stress of the busy time, you can tell that they both loved their jobs and the people. Such a pleasant dining experience!

Mat “Enix” S

Great little place. Very different, original, historic. A must see in YK. Food was excellent, though a little undercooked. Chef was happy to put it right. Most staff were friendly, but one was a little aloof. Buffalo chilli was top notch.

GWoo

The portions were huge but disappointed by the food. Super greasy : the oil of the fried fish was literally dripping on the fries... So I left aside half of the fries because they were just bathing in oil and impossible to eat. The fish is fresh and good. The Buffalo ribeye was ok, I'm not a big fan and prefer beef but it's a personal taste, as my boyfriend really liked it. Staff was polite but we didn't feel a warm welcoming and service. When I asked for water, I felt like I was kind of annoying the waitress. To sum up, it was an experience not as good as I expected, especially for the price we paid for, a little bit more than $80 for two, with just tap water...

Belongdawe Jahspear

It started with soft and cinnamony homemade bread. Then we had the most delicious arctic char! Fun interior ambiance, walls covered in notes and bills from around the work.

Mandita Morotinova

Great atmosphere! Even if you are alone, which will be better to get a sit in this busy place ! The food is awesome ! The service is great !, (without mention names !,;))! Sad is closing at 9 pm but hey people have to kayaking to home !!! Definitely will be there next time in YK!!!

Travis Mason

After talking with some of the locals, this place was recommended to us or else we would have never found it. A very unique place and the food was very delicious with very large portions. I ordered the pan fried whitefish which was simply the best I've ever had! This is a must visit location, you won't be disappointed!

Tara N.

This has to be the single most overrated joint in all of NWT. The fish is average at best. They only had 4 items to choose from. They use a softball-sized portion of butter to pan fry each piece of fish. They put the same gross “magic sauce” on pretty much everything. The sauce tastes like it is 80% sugar. They don’t even have fresh slices of lemon...or any lemon for that matter. I get how the place has history and people like to say they have been there but you know what else has history? McDonalds. Instead of a $40 piece of tasteless fish and a $50 bottle of wine get a fillet-o-fish and a milkshake to get the same great taste and nutritional value while saving $80 in the process. Service was also mediocre. We stood at the till along side another patron for 15 minutes waiting to pay.

Llyanina Lora

This by far was one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had! The whitefish was cooked deliciously and the salad and fries were superb! The waitress and the cook were so friendly and served you with a smile. Definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn't been to old Town Yellowknife ????

Kevin Kim

Amazing fish! A truly unique atmosphere. A must stop when in Yellowknife!

Oliver Buckley

A must-try place!!! Super funky decor, very friendly staff and service. You have views of the water and it’s just so cozy there!! Great quality food!!! Portion sizes are huge... prices reflect the quality. Always look forward to going there on my trips to Yellowknife.

Tm Chan

Love the Buffalo beef soup from here. This is a place with friendly staff and warm food! If you plan to pay a visit, go early. Otherwise you need to wait for your seat at outside. You do not want to do that especially when the temperature is -30c.

Kristy Wood

My favorite place to have lunch or dinner in Yellowknife. The scrumptious freshly caught fish and chips served with awesome homemade fries, salad, and home baked buns! Their salad dressing is yummy and I always buy some to take home. The service is always very welcoming and helpful. Love this place thank you ❤️

Bill Stathakos

Best in town! Food quality or service. This small old English style bistro is loved by both local and torists around the world. Seats must be booked early otherwise waiting time may last hours. My family and friend went there once and we were impressed by there great food and service. It was wonderful experience. Will recommend to all my friends.

Lina Sederavicius

Excellent food but pricey. Not a big place. Can get very crowded in high season. Service was prompt and courteous. A local tradition of signing walls, tables, window ledges. People post business cards, boarding passes, and personal notes. Glad we went but would try other places next time.

Anne-Laure Combot

I visited with a friend for lunch yesterday. My friend told the server that she had made reservations by phone before the visit, the server was ignored us and called in those who had been waiting on a first-come, first-served basis before taking us inside. When I sat down at the table and looked at the table and asked him to wipe the table, he just left the dishcloth on the table and disappeared. I looked at the dishcloth, I found that it had been used in the kitchen, and it had so much food on it that it was hard to pick it up by hand. I had to wipe the table with my hands, but another server came along the way and wiped it for me. Aside from the service, the food was delicious. The volume was so large that I was full. On the other hand, however, the restaurant's food price is quite expensive, and I was afraid it might have been possible to provide you with a glass of water. I went to the counter to pay for it, and the server who was throwing a dishcloth at me was in charge of the bill. Without asking me how much I would pay for the tip, the server herself pressed the amount and insisted that I pay the bill. I didn't know this until I got home. It's absolutely ridiculous. Please don't do this because many Asian tourists visit. It's a waste of a tip for the server.

Steven Turpin

Ahhhmaaazinggg!! Very delicious. Fast service. Best meal I have had in Yellowknife!

Sunny Pan

Amazing food. Great portion sizes and very fresh ingredients. Service is also great and the ambiance is funky and fun

Marlene Parsons

I've heard great reviews about the quality of the food, although can be a little expensive. I went in twice yesterday with the intent to have a mid-afternoon meal. It was busy, and that's normally a good sign. Maybe it's the nature of the abundance of customers but neither times was my presence even acknowledged by a member of the staff, so I left... twice. I'm still sure it's a great place to eat, but I feel it's best to know someone who works there or just be more assertive when needing served.

dina karan

Best fish and chips ever! Prices are a little high, but portions are big. It is very crowded though, and there is always a line outside. Be sure to make a reservation! Unfortunately, they run out of a lot of items on their menu, so don't come with only one choice in mind. Fish and chips (5/5) The pickerel was amazing. Definitely get the pickerel. I ordered pickerel because I read one Yelper raving about it. I don't remember who you are, but shoutout to you. I also overheard the server telling a guest that pickerel is hard to catch, so if it is on the menu, you're in for a treat! The salad dressing was really good, and the fries were amazing. Grilled Arctic char (4/5) Pretty good, but it was a little dry. Buffalo steak (4/5) Sauce was good, and it was a nicely-executed dish. I'd say it's worth the hype, but I'm deducting one star because I got an allergic reaction right after (this always happens after I eat really intensely flavoured things, and it might've been the sauce/cooking oil/fish, I'm not too sure).

Kyung Y

Fresh fishes, sweet sauce may not be for anyone, overpriced but not bad as a tourist option

Michael Brown

The best fish we have ever eaten. Comes fresh out of Great Slave Lake, minutes from the restaurant. Super friendly staff and the opportunity to leave your mark

Fred Sallee

Awesome food and awesome service!!! I will return!!

The best deep fried white fish. Period. The fish is fresh and the batter is perfect. Crispy yet not too thick. Pan-Fried arctic char is also very well cooked. Moist inside with slight crisp on the outside. A little expensive but definitely worth it!

M. MacD.

FANTASTIC FOOD! Was amazing every single part of the meal was great. From the staff, presentation, taste and experience. Would eat here again anytime!

Ron Grant

Best fish&chips in Canada for sure.

Joseph Pavlic

If you like fish, you will love Bullock's Bistro. I ate an Arctic Char. After I explained to the cook how I liked my medium-rare beef steak, she served up the best fish I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Worth the money. No regrets.

Tay L

All food we ordered was very great!! .fish sauce made those food more delicious!!

Mark Petrasanta

good location good food if you can get a seat ! 分量足味道好!

Interesting decorations, they only had a few vegetarian items. Nice staff and beautiful location.

Greg Redmond

Without question the absolute best fish I've ever eaten in my life! I had the arctic char, pan fried, and it was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked, well-flavoured and ridiculously large portions. The meal isn't cheap, but you …

Hwee Koh

Remember to make reservation!! One large chowder and one Slurp n Burp is enough for 3of us. How nice? Nice pan fried pickers????

Dave Mariani

Great ambience; nice to go on a weekday when they're not so busy. I decided to have the bison ribeye. Medium-done came out somewhat rare, and it was a bit cool when served but the flavour and tenderness was good.

Violca Memedi

Delicious local and regional fish. Ask for pan fried option with great butter sauce.

The food is delicious and the service staff is very nice.

I've never had a bad meal here. It's my Go-To stop everytime I visit Yellowknife. SlurpNBurp is big enough to split between 2 people. DELICIOUS!!

Chris Gray

Great food. Owner is great. Nice fish options and Buffalo steak. Excellent. Would come back any day.

Haihong Wang

Bullock’s reputation precedes it as the best fish joint in town and it is well deserved. Always book to be on the safe side, it will prevent disappointment or waiting in line in the cold. I was extremely lucky to score a seat at the bar …

Damitan Dabiri

It's a must try place in yellowknife. Great food and friendly staff...

Jesse Ridgley

Best fish & chips ever. Great little place to make a memory. Cheers

Ioannis Labrakis

As soon as I entered this restaurant I knew I was in the right spot. The walls/tables/ceilings are plastered with names of people who have come and gone, i LOVED it! The menu was quite extensive for such a small spot but I ended up grabbing the chowder since it was the smallest thing I could get before a big dinner. It was hands down the best chowder i've ever had in Canada. Sitting next to the kitchen I was able to see the cook delve more into the menu and was astonished at not only her pace but the quality of food that was being presented. I would HIGHLY recommend this place for anyone traveling to Yellowknife and in need of a great Fish plate!

Craig R

Large portions, eclectic design and delicious fish. Make reservations if you're planning on eating at peak meal times as it's very popular. A must visit in Yellowknife!

A.Y Buhari

It is so hard to not give this place five stars. Everything about this place is cool and awesome, from the food to the staffs. The food especially is unique, fresh, and amazing. I order the grilled Lake Trout that came with fries and salad. They had the fish sauce topping for both the fish and the salad. It was amazing. My boyfriend ordered the pan fried Artic Char. same thing, his is more like a sweet and sour flavor. It is a little pricey but definitely worth every single penny.

Liisa Jay

A good place for some fish. Every now and then they get some land game. I really enjoyed the bison last time i was here. Staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. Every time i fly in, i make it a point to visit at least once.

SHU FONG Kwan

Shall restaurant and staff are funny and nice

Conrad Esteban

Absolutely delicious food, we had the fried battered fish of the day. It was a cool place, nice atmosphere, very alternative feel. Close to bush pilots point look out for the Aurora's

Li Guan

We shared four dishes amongst the 6 of us. I'd say going here in groups is ideal because you get to try different kinds of fish. However because there is usually a wait, I think making reservations ahead of time would be good. We had two whitefish pan fried and deep fried, one cod, and a fresh fish chowder. Their fish are so fresh and tender, and I recommend you to try the pan fried whitefish!! Yum-yum hehe

David Brown

It's the best restaurant in the yellowknife. Steak is perfect.

Hyekyung Kim

We went for brunch and got eggs benny; it was SO GOOD and reasonably priced! We got donuts and jam at the table on arrival; one of the must-go restaurants in Yellowknife.

KAREN MICHALUK

A must-try in Yellowknife! We each had the Slurp n’ Burp, one with Great Slave Cod and the other with Lake Trout - both pan fried. Incredibly tasty, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection! Great service, huge portions. Overall a great experience!

Stuart Pidd

The female server is extremely rude. After waiting 30 mins outside the establishment, I poked my head inside to query how much more of a wait time & nearly had it bitten off. Told me she was too busy with reservations and never got an approximate timing. Note this isn't my first time there and it'll be quite some time before I bother again!

Alexander Gawel

Always good fish made the way I ask for it (gimme that well done char mmmm). Always good bread that I wish I could eat and sometimes do LOL. Always give me all the extra feta cheese dressing I want in lieu of fries. Always leave satisfied.

Brian Bartsch

Pan , Deep fried or Grilled Arctic Fish is just Yummy

Christina Robins

AMAZING food, atmosphere, and very friendly, welcoming staff!! Highly recommended.

Yuan Sam

The fresh fish here was amazing. Although it was expensive it was so large that we both took part of our meals in to go boxes and had lunch the next day. If you make it to Old Town Yellowknife this is one place you have to visit. Well worth it!

Vern Baugh

Very good food and it’s a bit pricey. But It’s worth it.It’s such a. Lovely little place in old town Yellowknife. I can see so many memories from people all over the world. Worth a try.

andrew powell

Super unique, laid-back atmosphere and really good fish. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth the price to have the experience.

Ying Xu

Best fish and chips I have had the price is a little crazy but it is good.

Kin Chan

Delicious fish and fries. Their was no option on sides though which was frustrating.

Lesley Johnston

Always amazing & consistent, this time the portions were even more massive (huge fillets). So happy, mahsi/quana for great food.

eunsuk Jeon

Waited close to an hour, but worth it. Best fish dish I've ever had (pan-fried whitefish), next only to the hamour fish I've had in Oman. Lively atmosphere, great portions, and definitely call ahead!

Justin Roberts

Bullock’s is a dive restaurant with vandals from patrons who appreciates the place and food in particular. They may have a limited menu but every bit of it is worth it. The complimentary bread is on point. love every bit of it.

Raymond Wong

It's all about the fish and chips here for me. One of the best in town. A little pricey if your on a budget. But I'm absolutely stuffed when I leave.

Cee gee

We went there during the Christmas season, therefore we have to wait almost 40mins for a seat. But it is worth. The pan fry and deep fry white fish are delicious with their special sauce on the top. Price is not cheap, but as a small town like this, everything is expensive.

andy hogg

Long wait to get a table at Bullock's. Tried to reserve a table for 6pm by calling early in the afternoon, but was told I'll have to walk in and take my chances. Since there's a queue waiting outside in the cold often, maybe management should add more tables or a warm waiting area. Anyway, Bullocks has a fun, laid back atmosphere. It feels more like a diner than a proper restaurant. We sat at the kitchen table with our food being cooked right in front of us. Understandably, it smells like frying oil and grease. It takes a lot of time to get your food on account of only one person frying the fish. Had the Arctic char and Great Slave cod. These were probably the best tasting fish and chips I've ever had. Prices are high but understandable given the cachet of Bullock's and how much fish you get for your money.

Tony Hrkac

This place has the best fish ever! Pan-fried Arctic Char is my favorite. The servers and cooks are very nice. In one of my visits, my friend and I arrived five minutes before they were closing (not knowing they were closing early that day) and it was a hot day. They were very kind to accommodate us and keep the kitchen open for us in spite of the heat and everything.

Janine Dwyer

Delicious seafood chowder, relaxed environment, and fun staff!

Olivia

Best fish and chips ever!! I realise that it sounds cliché, and way to many people throw the word "best" around, but honestly and truly, this was the best I've ever had.

Kevin Kane

All time, favourite restaurant! I always have a huge appetite and this is the only place in YK that can offer both quality and quantity. Staff are amazing as always!

Tristan Waldock

One of my fav meals. Get the pan fried white fish. You'll dream of the sauce for the rest of your life!

Ja Son

I’ve had the good fortune to travel to all provinces and 2 out of 3 territories. I tell everyone... best fish and chips in Canada. Done and done. (Of course I haven’t been to the Yukon so maybe?)

Lorne Dryer

Happy service, playful atmosphere, the building fits in the area perfectly, and most of all, the pan-fried white fish with fries and salad are so delicious that we ate everything before taking a photo. It's worth the $30. The bread and donut balls are just as great!

Joni Anderson

Poor food fish taco nothing more than an over cooked lump of deep fryed batter and a dry piece of fish so small, tea cup size bowl of stew for $14.95 only positve was waitress and free bread will never go back. Spent $68.00 for nothing

The amount of food you got was incredible! Next trip back we will eat there again for sure!!

Mike Ferniuk

I visit Bullocks every time I go to Yellowknife. Where else can you get insanely fresh fish that tastes so so good? Nowhere. I would argue this is the best fish and chips on earth! Btw, the place is small, so make reso's or come early. Prices are reasonable for the the portions and quality. You won't regret eating here.

aly Biggs

This restaurant is an absolute MUST when visiting YK. Bring something to pin to the wall, and your appetite. Love Love LOVE!

Michael Arm

Is Great. Recommend whitefish.

Aaron Rysdale

Very Good Staff , Kind , Hospitally, humorous. Foods are so delicious , although im korean(little sensitive) . i recommand Buffalo Steak. if you want others, Fish Fry is good too.(fan fry more better I think)

Ian Livermore

Warm and happy, yummy and pricey. Great location by the harbour. Impossible to stop looking around inside at some funny sign or autograph on the money plastered walls.

Mark Chan

Must try if you are in town. Great quality food. The portion of the fish has been reduced dramatically within the 3 months of my visits. May be due to COVID-19 but I hope they go back to what they used to offer considering how much they charge for the meals but hands down one of the greatest in town.

Youwei Teng

Not a bad place but not that tasty than you think. The price is not cheap but can be accepted. Make the reservation before u go if you can. Otherwise, u will be frozen

Qi Wun Ho

Most people of our group try the fishes. They are good, portion is big and staff is nice. One of us try the buffalo, she says it's well good. Will try it next time.

Bonnie Meikle

Just simply the best place ever to eat. Good food for the belly and the soul!
