We offer you all the information of real people who bought the services and products of Taro's Fish (Fish Shop) in North York (Canada).
As of day this firm receives a rating of 4.6 out of 5 and the rating is based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is practically the highest, and it's based on a very large number of feddbacks, so we can think that the rating is very credible. If many people have bothered to leave their score when they've done well, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set reviews when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Seafood market.
Fish is fresh, and sashimi is excellent. I can’t comment on sushi or nigiri. After all, they are just a fish supermarket. I can’t complain about their sushi technique. Similar to Kaiten sushi in JP.
One of the best places to get high quality, delicious seafood! Everything I've had from Taro's has been fresh and tasty and the staff provide great, friendly service. I recommend ordering online if you plan on going on the weekend because the wait can be quite long (though there isn't an option to order sashimi online). I was able to pay outside and get my food in a few minutes. Highly recommend!
For some of the freshest sushi, sashimi in the GTA, that's not another place that I know of that's better when comparing quality and cost. Highly recommend the seasonal selection you typically can't get elsewhere.
The quality of fish here is amazing! It is a bit expensive but you definitely get what you pay for. You can buy the already prepared sashimi trays or choose your own sashimi and get the sashimi chef to cut it for you.
Exceptional quality without restaurant mark ups. Finally, a high quality sashimi provider that allows you to select through pre-weighed cuts of raw fish, shrimp etc. and upon payment, you can decide if you want their chefs to cut it into sashimi pieces, or sushi or rolls etc. From choosing your cuts of fish, to having their chefs cut and place the fish in take out containers, it takes only a few minutes. This place gets busy and also sells out of some of their items, but it's worth a stop over to try it out.
Prices are decent for the quality. Some of the sushi had a fishy aftertaste to it which I'd expect outside of places like Japan/Korea. It's my first time in Canada and it's pretty mindblowing to find a shop like this here. Really great, authentic Japanese food options. Lovely staff despite how swamped/busy they looked. I won't be in the area too long, but I'll definitely be returning here again before I leave.
Fresh and delicious. Busy location, order ahead whenever possible. Service is friendly and courteous given how busy they are. All the fish is fresh. Recommended: Uni, yellowtail, pork skins.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat sushi anywhere else, Taro Fish is BOMB. The sushi is incredible. This was the Set for 2. Good variety, very filling.
Extremely high quality seafood with knowledgeable staff informing customers where their fish and seafood is originally from. Very friendly staff and the store was neat and tidy following with covid protocols. There was a long wait when we went to buy fish, but there would be an occasional staff member who would come out and inform us the availability of certain fishes. Great find!
Home made chiraishi with otoro, salmon. So fresh and yummy.
Quaint, little Japanese fish market/store tucked into a little strip mall just off of Finch. This store also sells packaged Japanese goods and snacks that one would find in Japan or at least harder to do so here. The highlight is the in store fish cutting services available to customers who buy their slabs of sashimi grade fish. Tuna (chutoro, o'toro), salmon, sea bream, etc. are all available for you to peruse through and select for your own sashimi platter build OR you can pick one of their prebuilt platters to take home. We opted for a prebuilt sashimi AND one of the Chirashi (fish on top of sushi rice) dishes. The fish in the sashimi was of top notch freshness and great quality. Included was scallop, prawn and uni. The first two were phenomenal but the uni was slightly weak. Still good but any more time and it would be on the dangerous, razor thin precipice that uni tends to be between good and bad. Stealing the show however, was the Chirashi (fish on top of sushi rice). Unlike other Chirashi I've had, this was rice with a layer of minced salmon, a healthy scoop of minced tuna and a whole scallop plus a slice of octopus. To my surprise, the tuna mince was seasoned amazingly well: a touch of sweetness and savory in the dressing. The salmon appeared to be slightly dressed as well. If it weren't for us having salmon sashimi earlier, I would have thought the flavour was just the fish. Props to the chef who opted for the mince route. This was the best Chirashi I've ever had. Accepts debit or credit. NO CASH due to Covid policy. Parking is tight as the strip mall only has 25-30 spots for seven stores including Taro's.
Great sushi, the fish was fresh I would not say this is enough for 4 people, maybe closer to 3. This place is in a small plaza and there is always a line but they have a good system to cater to their patrons so those who have preordered are not waiting as long.
The orange uni is sweet while the yellow one is bitter. They are sold together so you do not get to choose. I would not buy uni from this place again. Would rather go further to J-town.
My favorite place to go to pick up great quality sashimi. My only complaint is that they are mostly open when I'm working and closed when I'm free.. I guess it's also a pro, because I'd probably be broke if I went here too much. I love making a chirashi bowl with a bunch of the good stuff: salmon, toro, ikura, amaebi, hotate, ika, uni.. Mmm.
A great little Japanese supermarket that focuses on selling seafood. There are fridges of both sushi and non-sushi grade fish - You pick what you want and you can have them cut and prepare it for your as a completed platter. Prices are OK, especially for their Uni and Hokkaido Scallops, which are my favs. If you don't want to pick your own fish, they also sell sushi platters (their choice) as well.
I've always wanted to try this little gem. There is a small shared parking lot with other patron of the small plaza. Since today is Valentine's day why not give myself a good reason to stop in and see what all the fuss is about. Since it is Valentine's day I wasn't expecting a huge selection of fish since I arrived sort of late around 4:00pm. First off like I said parking lot is small so I was lucky enough to score a spot right away when I pulled into the plaza. I stepped inside and was wowed by how roomy and big it actually was inside, from the outside I thought it was going to be a small cramped market but I was wrong. There are a few fridges lined up against the wall and some freezers in the center of the store, on the opposite side is the sushi bar and fresh fish area. I immediately walked to he fridge to see what kind of fish is left for my choosing. I picked up the basket and started to fill it with fresh BC uni, salmon from Ireland, blue fin tuna, large shrimps, and a white fish from Greece. I'm sure if it wasn't for Valentine's day there may be even more selection of fish. Once you've selected your seafood of choice you line up and see what the damages are, once you've settled up with the cashier all you need to do is tell them to slice it for you. The cashier brings your seafood over to the chef and he starts to slice and plate your selection for you to enjoy at home. It took about 15min after the cashier brought it over to the chef to wait in queue. They will also give you a small bag of ice for you to keep your food cold while it is being transported home. If sushi and maki's are your thing you need to order at the sushi bar and then tell the cashier your order. I placed an order of 2 for ikura sushi which is salmon roe. Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. This will definitely not be my only time here.
Sometimes not enough parking, and long lines to get in. But as one of the only places to get excellent sashimi grade fish in Toronto it's not surprising.
Such a staple if you want high quality and consistently fresh sashimi. You can also buy small prepared meals or call ahead to have some sushi trays prepared for pic up. Friendly staff, always a pleasure to shop here :)
Service is fast and simple. Fish is fresh and market price. They even gave us ice to keep the fish cold on our way home. A+ ????
Excellent, a must try place for some good sashimi. Simple steps, pick the type of sashimi/fish you like, order the fresh rolls at the food counters, go pay and let them know you would to cut into sashimi pieces, bring home and enjoy it.
A Japanese-owned fish shop and you bet their sashimis are fresh as hell! Top quality in Toronto. I ordered the premium nigiri set for $48 on the spot and wait time was around 15-20. I loved the premium set, if you’re hungry, I don’t think it’s a shareable box even though that’s what the store suggested. I shared the box with my brother and it was more of a snack for us if anything. The line up to get in the store felt somewhat long because customers weren’t allowed to go in even if they see someone walk out. The store has a policy where a staff member has to bring you in so customers in the store can still maintain social distancing. Given limited capacity and their store is not big, I totally agree with their protocol. I thought it was also a smart idea to put a huge sign outside of their store explaining that. Other than fresh sashimi, uni and frozen goods (icecream, frozen ikura, different types of fish), Taro also offers Made in Japan goods- Japanese soya sauce, soba sauce, ramen brands that are hard to find in other supermarkets. Overall, friendly staff! I love how they have a good ordering system going. People who paid or pre-ordered had a line outside and walk-ins had a different line. It was a smooth transaction from the moment I lined up to cash out. Very organized.
This place usually has good experience. However, it is pretty disappointing today. Overall, the rolls we ordered are not as good as before. The soft shell crab inside the Spider is not freshly made and dull.
Product/Service: 5/5 Amazing quality sushi and sashimi. If only I lived closer then this would be my go-to Japanese take out spot. Service is great, and although we had to wait, it was well worth it. Top notch. Location: 4/5 Better for driving. Parking was okay when we got there but I could see that it probably gets full sometimes. Price: 5/5 Reasonable prices for fresh sushi. Atmosphere: 4/5 Clean supermarket style. Definitely a great concept.
Recommended by a few friends and family and decided to give it a try. I like how it is inside like a tiny J town feel of a marketplace. Maybe I did expected too much since it was recommended by a few people. The sashimi (chirashi don) was average. Authentic Japanese. Fresh fish. Wide selection. A neighborhood standout for those in the know and a loyal following flocks here for those outside of the neighborhood. You get what you pay for in quality so don't expect cheap prices.the store is always kept very clean.
I bought here few times and it always was super fresh fish. But today I bought sashimi and a bluefin and tuna had a fishy aftertaste. Unpleasant surprise, specifically for 140$
Food 7/10 Service 7/10 Price $$ This place become my favorite take out shushi and Sashimi place. Freshly made sushi and tasty. Reasonable price. Very authentic Japanese style sushi. Even can buy some of Japanese noodles, ice creams and foods. Between 2-4, can't order the sushi. :( Chief needs time for preparation for evening. But few things were compromised. That's why I give 3stars.
I had to check out this place myself after reading the great reviews, which were accurate. They sell top quality fish and other Japanese grocery products. The staff have great customer service. The place is busy so it is best to call ahead to pick up your order. For sashimi, you choose the fish and they will slice it for you. It is a wonderful unique experience to get high quality food from a market instead of restaurant.
First time at Taro's, they have a location here near the MEC at Bessarion Station, they also have another apparently smaller location in Markham near Major Mackenzie and Woodbine. It's a hybrid Japanese packaged consumable goods specialty store mixed with a speciality sushi/sashimi store. In the supermarket part, they have a number of different frozen things (eg natto, roe, frozen fish etc) along with sauces (mirin, vinegar, ramen sauces, dips etc). The real joy though is the fresh fish section where they have standing sliding fridges full of different fresh fishes ready to be consumed. They come in chunks and you can ask them to cut them into sashimi, poke, nigiri (extra $) etc. There's also uni from various areas (BC/Boston/California/Japan). Anyways, lots of fun if you're in the mood to treat yourself and drop some cash on raw fish. Come at off hours if you can, apparently weekends are intense (they only let 8 customers in the store at a time during COVID era).
I'm a person who usually keeps my mouth shut instead of criticism. However, I have been to this place twice and 2 out of 3 are bad customer experiences. The 2 stars are for the quality fish. If it's only the customer service, I would give negative 2 stars. And please remember to always take pictures of the fish you pick if you decide to let them slice it for you as they may give you wrong prices.
Fresh and delicious sushi and sashimi! The nigiri set was freshly prepared and very tasty ????
Fresh and delicious seafood! You can really taste the difference with the premium selection. My first visit and I’ll be coming back. The lineups tend to get long though, so I’d recommend pre-ordering if you can.
Freshest sashimi I’ve had! Amazing customer service & they are super organized. Long lines on the weekend & limited parking so weekdays may be better for a visit. Keep up the great work.
I used to go to this place a lot and I am very disappointed this time. I order a sushi plate take out and the lady handed me over a buzzer. So I waited about 30mins in my car and still not buzzing, I went to the lady and asked her could u check on my order. The lady came to me with my order so I told her that the buzzer isn’t working and u might wanna fix it. The lady just took it and ignored what I said with a very bad attitude. This never happened on me before Taro is known for his service and product quality but maybe they just don’t pay attention to those things anymore. (Btw Taro, if u are reading my comment, I threw out the takeout because with this customer service what kind of good sushi can u possible make :)
Great quality food, very well thought out and implemented COVID safety protocols. Q safe place to get quality sushi and other Japanese foods!
Great place for Japanese fish. They are a little pricy compared to wholesalers that are popping up, but all their stuff is nicely prepped and you don’t need to buy an entire side of fish. I wish they had more hot food again, but doubt that business model is ever returning.
If I could give this place 6 stars I would!! The sashimi is soooo fresh and thick, sushi looks fantastic (I didn’t get it), they also have a decent selection of Japanese goods there. This place is a gem for sure!
Love this place. Favorite take out sushi in Toronto, always great service and best ingredients. Been coming here for over 10 years and post covid, they have been placing Sanitizing stations in the front door and limiting customer traffic. Come support local small business.
Salmon was smoooth, freesh and greaat! We love uni-sushi, they were as good as chef-made. Tacowasabi is cheap and yummy. The Soup is self-made. Overall, it’s pricy but worth it.
This is a great spot for high quality sushi! This place has some of the highest quality fish I've ever seen in Toronto. The service is great, but it does get quite busy.
