We get the Tuesday special at least once a month. It is consistently the best fish & chip deal we’ve found in the area. Big piece of battered fish and plenty of fries. Although not included, their coleslaw is very good too. Ask for extra crispy if you’re taking it more than 5 minutes from the shop.

We had a great fish and chip experience last night. The haddock was good size, crispy and flavorful. The shrimp didn't stand a chance on the table and the fries were fresh cut (chip truck style) and cooked perfectly. Our Friday night family dinner was thoroughly enjoyed. J Monks is good fish and chips with a fry master at the helm. Its a little pricey but don't we all have to make a decent living for the work we do and provide a living wage for those we may employ. Keep up the great work J Monk staff! And for those of you who don't know how to travel home with take-out food like fish and chips take heed! (especially if your travelling more than a couple blocks) Get there early so you can pay and be ready for your order. Open the bags in your vehicle and relieve the steam for goodness sake... that why your crisp is gone! Let the fries breath people. You don't have to flop them wide open or anything just let em breath... your food will cool off slightly, stay a lot more crispy and be ready for enjoyment. Then when you get home, immediately remove the fries from their cardboard coffin and put them into a nice big wood salad bowl or the like... grind some salt on them and shake them up and bam onto the table. Likewise get the fish out quick and ready to serve! Say the blessing and enjoy. I have a similar process for pizza and wings but that is for another time and review.

I will not be going back.Food was way to greasy fries were cooked until they were dark dark brown on the outside but alot of the fries were still raw on the inside.The fries were also all no longer then 1inch .Fish was very greasy and soggy.For $15 you would think they would take more pride in their food and serve better quality they see what they are putting in the box and clearly don't care.I had a very upset stomach and so did my 8 year old...

I live across the street from J monks. My family and I eat there at least 2-3 times every week, whether it's a simple fish burger or a 5 piece haddock meal, of course coupled with their original coleslaw, is never a disappointment!

Ya gotta know when it's busy, it's best! Had the haddock dinners repeatedly, tried the pollock and halibut. All great tasting, piping hot, delivered to your car, once your socially distanced order is placed. Tonight's dinner haddock, superb as usual! Thanks for cooking! Take out is a treat for me! We love JMonks, however today, Friday, September 11,2020 I had an experience that might deter me from ordering further. While waiting for my order at about 6:30pm another customer walked in, even though there were already 2 customers in the pick up area. This customer, a woman, was not wearing a mask, she proceeded to pay for her order. The person taking her payment should have addressed her regarding the use of masks while indoor places as placed on their front window, they didn't. I told her that the bylaw states that all customers must wear a facemask. I was told by this woman that I needed to be quiet. I want to suggest to JMonks that the bylaw must and should be enforced.

I'm sorry but I'm giving this store a two. The reason is their french fries are so disgusting. There not crispy and so grease. Not to mention since new owners took over they cut back on the fries you get. The people are very nice in there. But they need to change the way fries are cooked and give a little more fries.Dont be so cheap on the fries.

Had the four piece halibut and fries today. The service was friendly, it was ready in 15 minutes (ordered at 3:30pm), and it was the best fish and chips in the city by far! Other restaurants we've ordered from recently have had TINY pieces of halibut, like it was cut in half. These pieces were a generous size, perfectly fried with the right amount of crispy batter and not greasy. The fries were also good. Definitely our new go to!!

Best fish and chips in st catharines, but not a very good system in place during covid19. Do not even attempt an order on Fridays after 4:30pm. Couldnt get through the phone lines, when I finally did at 5:45 was told all pickup slots were filled until after 7pm and that it would be quicker to come in, did so, and proceeded to have to wait an hour for my order. Had I known, I would have taken an after 7pm slot, would have saved me an hour wait in my car. Definitely recommend placing orders well in advance.

I know it's Good Friday. I know you are busy. But your service is terrible. I tried to place an order only to be told that no orders were being taken. Walk ins only. My husband goes and gets in line and gets to the front of the line only to be told they were not taking any more walk ins as they had to fill all the called in orders. This service is terrible. No sorry here's a discount for your next order or anything. They just stopped and said to call in an order.

New ownership?? The halibut portions seems to get smaller and smaller. Fries are meh - dark, greasy and limpy. You will be lucky to get any tarter sauce and if you happen to ask for extra (more than 1) it is an extra cost for the tiny packs of the processed stuff. The macaroni and cole slaw are very good.

I used to love going to j monks years ago. Getting a couple pieces of fish and a poutine. Well I went back today and I'm sad to say it will be my last time. I paid $27 for one piece of fish, a large fry and a large poutine.The fries were barely cooked, soggy, unsalted and just disgusting. We had to fry them again ourselves just to be able to eat them. The poutine I couldn't save. It was just soggy, uncooked potato in gravy and shredded cheese that stuck to the top of the box, and ended up in the garbage bin. The only reason I am not giving this a one star is because the halibut was actually pretty good. I am thoroughly disappointed at j monks for serving such sub par food. I will not be back.

Last time for me! Ordered a scallop dinner and a piece of Halibut tonight. Chips were not drained of oil and over cooked. Fish was completely overcooked. No question that the fryer oil had been burnt! Burnt oil flavour was all the way through the fish. Too bad used to be a great quality place.
