Here you will be able to see the opinions of real people who use the services of Kirin Seafood Restaurant (Starlight) (Fish Shop) near to the territory of New Westminster (Canada).
At the present this firm gets a score of 4.1 stars out of 5 and that score has been based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that it has an average rating is quite high, and it's based on a very high number of scores, so we can be quite sure that the score is quite credible. If people have bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to write evaluations when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop is included in the category of Chinese restaurant.
High end Chinese food. But pricey. Service can be erratic when there is a wedding function...
I really like the Fish on display and the fish that you eat. I also like the rice rolls. I think that there should be chopstick stands all day not just night time
Kind of the go-to for good dim sum in the area, kinda miss the years when they were in Coquitlam but that was something like a decade ago, time flies. Anyway, the food is of course great, as is known with Kirin. Having grown up eating this stuff and spending summers in Hong Kong, the food here is comparable to the restaurants there and surprising to some, Kirin is good value for the portions and quality vs that of Hong Kong. But that doesn't really matter since different cities and living standards - just some food for thought.
Food was really good and tasty. Lobster was so full of meat and I like how it was prepared with the flavoring. Was an expensive Chinese New year menu but left you full
Food was delicious. The staff are very rude. Made my wife very uncomfortable and we felt very underappreciated as valued customers. Would be a 1 star, if the food have not been so great. Take out i guess would be best.
Excellent service with a very stable food quality. The Best Kirin ever.
$8.50 for 11 pieces of BBQ pork and $25 for the eggplant dish. That's highway robbery Kirin. $150+ for 6 dishes of small portions. This will be the last time any of us and friends will be dining at Kirin. Shouldn't even left them a tip.
Got to try their Har Gao, everything else is average The ordering process was a bit painful though, you'd pretty much have to remember your order instead of the standard ordering form you can fill out
Main entrance host was kinda ride and also seemed like he looked down on us. Turned around and headed out. Didn't bother trying to get a table. Wouldn't recommend this poshy place.
I love having dinner here with my family. Well I love having dinner with my family anywhere but Kirin's staff make it extra nice for us.
This is a great place to hang out with friends and family. Dim sum service is great, although the style of chinese food they serve is not my thing. Good price! Elegant and clean. Great service.
Quality is always good and consistent.
Amazing Peking duck, outstanding service. Just a fantastic experience all together
Service below par. Good table distance.
Finding the parking lot empty, I decided to stop in, do some shopping and have some dinner. I was dropping off my shopping, ready to head to the restaurant when a man tapped on my door, told me I wasn't allowed to park there and was told to move behind the Lowe's. You don't want my money? Fine. I'll eat at one of the fine establishments in New Westminister.
The dim sum is a bit hit and miss. The BBQ buns were very good but the Shrimp Spring rolls had too thick of a skin, so not the best that I have had. The Supreme dumpling had good quality ingredients but was served lukewarm. The selling point here is the free tea, unlike most other places, and the modern dining room and good service. Overall, I would not make a special trip for the dim sum here.
Service was good, food was ok. Enjoyed my time there, not sure if I would repeat it.
High-end Chinese restaurant. Expensive but it is worth to try their signature roasted suckling pig, which is very fresh, crispy and delicious.
made an reservation for 8 two weeks in advance, ended up waiting 35 mins for a table can only seat 6 people, no room for putting food on the table with all the tea pots, cups and plates took up most of the space. very horrible. if you can't arrange the table right don't take some many reservations. waste my time.
Did not like the food but the casino was fun
Excellent dim sum and service. Definitely worth the slightly elevated price.
Food quality and service is excellent. Lots of parking.
Food and service are ok but the dinner took over 3 hrs to complete which was considerably slower than the last time I visited. There were long pauses between courses and some of the courses were cold by the time they are served which really downgraded the experience. Feels like the kitchen is really short staffed.
The food and service here was so good! We got this ten course meal and the dishes were all really good! Especially loved the fish/congee, crispy pork, noodles, and desserts. Also really liked the interiors which looked very grand, and had a palace feel. The restaurant is a bit tricky to find because it is located beside a casino.
Have been coming here multiple times. Food is of excellent Kirin standard. A big plus is the easy parking at this location comparing to downtown Kirin. Would give five stars if the service wasn't degrading. First, the reception desk is often empty and customers have to spend extra time waiting. Today, when the receptionist finally came, she took the name of the people came after us first without even asking. Second, the waiter is becoming less professional. The waiter taking our order today is a familiar face, but he seemed to forget what proper human interaction is. You would expect your waiter to verbally acknowledge it when you ordered a dish. No, this guy was dead silent and only waved his pen when I raised my head to make sure he heard my order. And I just heard him talking at the table next to us a moment ago!
One of the better Kirins. Lots of parking since it's next to a casino. It's a bit out of the way from everything Decor is nice food is decent, a good place to hold banquets. Washrooms are cleab
Dim sum was alright, service was terrible. Service staff ignored our table for larger parties. After we paid our bill we were asked to leave for other customers and half the resturant was empty. I do not recommend.
This place never disappoints! The service is impeccable, special shout out to Gordon for my amazing Lychee Martini. The food is fantastic, I'm still thinking about the Peking Duck. The decor is fine dining while the ambience is comfortable. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a great meal, a date or a party of 10+, you will feel right at home.
Good environment, especially for Chinese dim sum & dinner over the years. Never disappointed. Dim sum changes ever so often & service is good. Bigger open air space & lovely decor including outside Asian garden & inside urn fountains. Lighting is lovely.
Very spacious and luxurious restaurant. I was there for dim sum, which was really really good. But also, unlike other Chinese restaurants, it was quiet enough to hold a normal conversation
It's great dim sum, often busy! Awesome quality dim sum! Dinner isn't anything special to be honest. The dinner mochi is a must try!
Great food and service. Best plaace to go for durian mochi! ????
Pretty average. The Richmond location is better. Service was pretty good, and we were seated right away, even without a reservation, but we got there about 10:30 AM. The duck noodle soup was the best. The soup was very tasty, noodles were fresh, and the duck was tender and flavorful. Unfortunately, everything else was pretty average. The deep fried chicken knuckles was really bland. Most other place that I've tried has it coated with salt and pepper. These weren't even salted, at least I couldn't taste any. This is also the only place that I can remember that added corn to the filling of their shrimp egg rolls as a filler. Probably not a place that I would come back to, not because the food was bad, but for what it cost, there are way better dim sum places
Dec 17/17- went for dim sum at noonish...service was wonderful...food itself was just nothing spectacular. ..spring rolls taro filled w prawns ...bao filled w custard... Rice noodles w beef brisket...half the cut was surrounded w fat!!!! That was the worst dish! Flavor was decent but the fat to meat ratio UNACCEPTABLE....few other dishes were forgetful....
Service is excellent. Spacing seating. Food was creative and delicious. Lots of parking same for the casino.
Very happy with the food quality and the service. Gets very busy so make a reservation. Would return.
We go here frequently, usually with a group, and always have a great dimsum feast. Today we went with just a couple of friends, and saw some things we'd never tried before -- one was a shrimp crab and seaweed deep fried roll -- delicious!!! Thanks again, Kirin staff.
Sooooo.... Starlight Kirin, very likely my favourite Kirin. New Suckling Pig menu 278, no dissapointment here. The soul is the pork and there's instruction everywhere to teach you how to prep it at home for the best result. Even after my 30min drive home, pop it in the oven for 2 min, comes out perfect. even my 90 year old granny crunch through no problem. Lobster is a good size, everyone gets a piece if the tail. Giant mushroom with young bean sprout and yes, they only give you the young'uns. The chicken is a simple yet cooked perfectly to loosen up the heavier companion dishes. Dessert is the classic, bake at home, egg custurd. Make sure you save room for that, its quite filling!
The quality of the food and service are always top-notch.
One of my favourite place for dim sum. Be sure to make a reservation. Their xia jiao and shao mai are just amazing as well as their other dim sums items.
Really excellent higher-end chinese food that is cooked with a greater degree of polish than other places. The durian dessert is really good, as is the dim sum offerings. Pricy, but consistently tasty.
It is always a very good experience when the captains/ waiters/ waitresses strive to match their cooks' best efforts which are significantly above the average. And that is so rare to have both that I must give them 5 stars as richly deserved.
Here's our experience: there was no line up at the door, we were told it was a 20 minute wait as we had 6 adults and 1 baby with us. Eventually the hostess offered us two separate tables across the restaurant from each other. My husband sat at one to reserve it while our friends went next door to see if Match was open. I went into Kirin to tell my husband that we were going next door instead. I saw two large tables cleared and ready for use and a third table being cleared that would be ready in 5 minutes. I approached the hostess to ask about the other tables. She was being very friendly and chatty with another family and their baby; she never looked at me. I feel we were treated differently than the other customers. We and had a wonderful meal next door instead.
Just went there recently and the quality of the food has gone down hill so much. One of the abalones were green in the inside. Wth. Green. We told the captain and he tells us some bs that this is normal as it is an Australian abalone even though this is the only one that is green. This we know is not Australian abalone as the can is displayed at the waiting area says Mexico. Sigh. Use to like this place quite a bit. I mean lying to your customers to avoid responsibility is a big no no as this makes me wonder what other kind of cost cutting are they doing in the kitchen due to the poor business. Will never go there again.
The fish in their fish tanks are all dead. Terrible service and over 2+ hour wait for my order of dim sum (which I pre-ordered). The foods were all cold when I got home (and I live very close to them <5 min drive).
Service is very poor for non Asian customers... disappointing !!!!
We came here several times before, usually for afternoon dimsum. But we have been here for dinner. Their dimsum is good, although I find that it's fairly overpriced compared to other even better dimsum restaurants. The portions are small as well. We also ordered a chow mein for $22 (!!!!). It was a good noodle...but overpriced for $22. The service is great, with a ton of waiters/waitresses. The ambiance is nice and everything is quite clean...even the washrooms are clean! Dinner was a tad disappointing...the food is okay, but again, it's overpriced compared to a lot of other Chinese seafood restaurants.
always a trusted name and this restaurant is no different. the best quality
This rating depends on which Kirin Restaurant you are going. Downtown Kirin was pricy and staffs were dishonest to customers last year when we were there. I gave 1 Star. Richmond Kirin is 5 Star for food quality, service and location whereas Cambie Kirin is 3 Star for location but food quality is just okay. Starlight Kirin is also 3 for bad location and just about good quality food. However, there is no covered from parkade to the restaurant in this location. Need to prepare yourself on rainy or stormy days.
The food was excellent and the service was exceptional on a Monday. They have the pork here that the other Kirin doesn't have. But my favorite is the fish congee. It was a full house on a Friday evening but half empty on a Monday. Recommend this location if you want something less busy on a weekday.
Probably the worst of the Kirin Restaurants in the Greater Vancouver area. Had dinner there, consisting of a couple dishes - a lobster, Peking duck (2 courses), a vegetarian dish, and a steamed rock cod. The lobster was no better than okay, and worse than the lobsters we've had at other Kirin Restaurants in Vancouver. The Peking Duck skin also was lacking in flavour (the rice wrap with duck skin), and the restaurant tried to cheat us out of the duck meat with our second course (soup). The fish was overcooked, and had the texture of a dead fish. Service was pretty good however, which rescues this from review from being hated to merely disliked.
Very good Chinese food, not as busy as before ,but make sure u call before you go if it's Chinese holiday, usually spent 40 to 50 per person if you order seafood
Has my wedding reception here. It was a great experience and everything went well. Except for the fact my wedding cake went missing after our first bite.
Food is so delicious!
Great service and good food.
Love it! Went here for our friends baby's 100th day celebration. It was a set menu and we enjoyed everything that was serve to us. #OnGoogleMaps @googlemaps #LetsGuide @googlelocalguides #604 #NewWest #Food On Insta: @gestler.mendoza
Came with family and enjoyed our meal. Not a huge Chinese food person so It was nice to try things I've never had before, and they were all delicious. Certainly something I'd come back to again.
it's been awhile didn't go to the restaurant, quite disappointed for both food quality and service. understood it was long weekend but it was not the excuse for poor service and bad quality with no tasty food.
Lots of parking. Decent dim sum.
Their food is pretty nice, but nothing really unique. It's just a typical restaurant. However, their complimentary desserts are definitely different! Their cookie, jello and egg white almond tea with black sesame ball is pretty good! It doesn't just have red bean paste soup like other places which I like. There are lots of parking space too so you don't have to worry about that part.
First time here. Not bad great places with great views
The service can be better but we were very enjoy the 10 pound king crab, so delicious
Came here for dim sum @ 2pm ordered and half the stuff we ordered they kept telling us there sold out. Dim sum food quality was poor flies kept flying over it. Seemed like it was sitting out for awhile. Over staffed however not good service I asked for 10% off due to everything we ordered kept saying they ran out server honored it and then was rejected by manager. Front women collecting money glared at us when leaving super rude. Never going back . Poor quality of food not ever worth my money again.
Excellent dim sum, gracious and expedient service and a lovely atmosphere with quite reasonable prices. Make reservations.
Good dim sum and great service
This is the place for dim sum. No other choice. If you want top notch Chinese dim sum in Greater Vancouver, this is the place to go. Period.
Dim sum is always tasty but the staff forgot to include the sauces for some of the egg rolls, noodles we ordered.
excellent service and food! everyone was helpful and friendly!! from the reception to servers and finally the cashier as well! thank you! will definitely come back
This Kirin is by far the one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. Service is excellent and the food is great. Except location is a bit off.
Came here for dim sum and was disappointed with the slow service. Dim sum took over 30mins to arrive. These are the typical shrimp dumplings and siu mai so nothing fancy. The food was so so given the price range, except for one dessert that is especially bad because it was soggy when it should be crispy. Do not recommend coming there
Good quality dim sum, has some nice twists on the traditional fare. Good service with a hot towel at the end. This location opens up some back rooms when busy. Reservations recommended.
This place is the best! fantastic dim sum and dinner. Great service
Tried eating at brunch time. Service has been upkeep and as nice usually. Food quality seems set back both in dim sum and stir fred dishes. Have tried stirred fry noodle and beef 干炒牛河。Standard is a bit below what common restaurant can provide.
King crab is expensive. At 62 dollars a pound (kirin price) they better do it right and starlight kirin does it the best. The food is amazing and the service is fantastic. There is ample space for dinning and the tables are spread out enough to ensure some privacy. Of all the Kirin's I love this one the most.
Great food and friendly service!
Good place to have a wedding reception. Ton of seafood options like lobster and deep fried crab claw. I couldn’t give 5 star because the food was above average but nothing special. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It’s also next the starlight casino.
Favourite place to go for dim sum, always having different items each month or so. Staff are generally very good and remember you. Dim sum cost is about par with other places, so I don't bother going anywhere else. Dinner can be costly depending on what you order.
Great food and service
Kirin New Westminster always serves great food and maintains the quality of meals and staff! as it is always busy, make your reservation by phone! we enjoyed a lot!
Don't expected such poor quality of food at this restaurant. Placed order and was told after one hour two orders were sold out. Finished dinner in 2.5 hours for table of 4 . Got another surprise by finding the order note was sitting at the bottom of our stir fried chicken dish. Only 1 out of 5 order met the standard. Will NEVER go back for dinner.
Very nice place. It felt like when i had dimsum in HK. The selections are not huge but the ones being served are of high quality and meticulously prepped and plated nicely. Pricey but worth it.
Both food and service are terrible, it's not the Kirin standard, Richmond's is better a lot than this one
Service
A friend took us here while I was in Downtown and I have to say, I really felt like I was in Hong Kong! The food was amazing, fresh and more than I could ever think of eating in one sitting! The service was amazing, we never had to wait to get more food and they were super friendly. The line to get in was a little bit of a wait (over 45 minutes) but overall not bad. It was definitely worth the walk and the wait. If your in the area do yourself a favor and take the time to stop in, you won't regret it!
Everything is good, food and service. Regular here for Dim sum. Make a reservation for dim sum. Dinner is very good as well.
On the expensive side. The tables are well spaced so you don't have to listen to your neighbors. Even with a full room, the ambient noise was manageable. The food who nice. The lobby is spacious with seats and acts like a waiting room with TV's. Great place to take toddlers looking to go for a stroll. Only downside is the price. But hey, you get what you pay for.
Not the same compare to 2 years ago (went for dimsum), aside from the Durian mochi, everything else was average. Dimsum are $7-$9 for 4 pieces, Ha gow, pigeon, spring roll, all below avg. Def not worth driving all the way over there if you don't live close by.
OK food but let down by being told over the phone that we could make a reservation for Dim Sum at 2pm no-problem and then promptly told the kitchen was closing at 2:30 after we had placed our order for our first few items. Many items were already finished by the time we ordered....really not acceptable for Dim Sum - to be told we have no time to order anything and most things were out. We should have been told this up-front when making the reservation. The food was average to good, and staff quite nonchalant/apathetic, so this really should be a 2 star rating given the above / overall experience but I'm basing the rating more on the food this time.
Balances out quality and quantity perfectly, when it comes to dim sum. Every bite is a delight. They have a great selection of tea too.
The place is nice, tea is in good quality. Dim sum stuff is toward light flavour side. Compare the Western Lake Restaurant, this need improve
The food was great but the speediness of the food coming out could use some improvements. We had 2 tables where the food was slow to come out at one table and really fast at the other table.
We came here on a Saturday late morning and it was very busy - we had high expectations as Kirin is well known for its fine dining banquet style Chinese food. Unfortunately the dim sum was below average - the rice rolls were nothing special and were too salty, the BBQ pork pastry had good flavor but was lukewarm, the chicken buns were dry. The standout dishes were the steamed scallop pea tip rice roll and deep fried tofu. The ambience in the main dining room is nice as there’s natural lighting but if you’re seated in the other rooms it’s dark. What was a nice surprise when we got the receipt is that they don’t charge for tea unlike other dim sum restaurants. I would say if you don’t want to drive all the way to Richmond or Vancouver, this could be an option for dimsum and won’t hurt the wallet.
Great service! But it’s better if you make reservations. They are even busy on Fridays lunch time! Dim Sum tastes great!
The staff that took my bill so very rude, but others were friendly and food was okay.
Best service and good Dim Sum variety. The lotus leaf rice, soup dumpling and fried bean curd skin is good. Most of the Dim Sums are finely made. Ambience is very good and not so noisy like the regular Dim Sum holes.
I wonder why nobody has mentioned the renowned roast-baby-pig with this Kirin Starlight. They serve that by preorder. I had such for dinner 5 times. The taste was super, the skin crispy and 4 out of 5 having good size. Just once that the pig size was too small. Otherwise, they should be rated 5 full stars. Other items of foods are about average. Services are good so I give them 4 stars plus.
Awesome food and service but during the lunch hour it can take 45 minutes+ to get your food. Also since the food comes out plate by plate by the time the second plate comes you have already digested the first plate! We end up going here for birthdays and other special occasions where we can take over an hour to eat, and don't mind paying a couple hundred dollars for 5 people.
Went for my friend's child's 100-day celebration, so had a typical Chinese set dinner. Food was pretty good. Loved the tapioca pudding. Service was good. Looks very grand with its high ceilings. Also have been there for wedding receptions, and was a pretty good venue.
I'll rate 0 star if possible. Visited this restaurant for many times in the past 4 years but really disappointed in the last two visits because something weird were found in the food, a dead fly and a human hair from you-know-where, disgusting! The floor manager didnt say sorry at all, instead he argued it could come from anywhere. Will never go there again.
Good food, clean and roomy interior, good service, checks if you have two vaccination shots.
was there for a wedding there was 1h interval between 5th and 6th course asked 3 times for a plate food was clearly on warmer so it was room temperature at best some dishes tasted great, some were very mediocre
I like there food, service also good. Dine in charge is reasonable.
The Dim Sum ???????????????????? is Fresh here! Cool Garden too???? Mmmmm Mmmmm Good!!!
Since it was a special occasion the place was pretty busy and needed reservations well in advance. Service was fine and attentive though there was one problem of our order where a dim sum didn't come but they took it off the final total. Dim sum was for the most part pretty standard fare with more pleasing presentation and tasted good.
Food and service are good. Can improve the waiting arrangement before opening. Today it is windy and raining, and queue up outside the restaurant was cold. It opened at 10 am sharp and we waited for 10 minutes outside. Restaurant management can consider letting customers to wait inside the restaurant under cold and rainy weather.
Food was great. Service was fantastic.
Delicious Dimsum! Drove pretty far and it was worth it! Very clean and it would be perfect to bring parents for a special brunch. Enjoyed every dish that was served. I would definitely come back!
This review is fresh from the oven: My family and I has been looking forward to enjoy a nice Chinese New Year meal at this location. 1) I know Chinese New Year can be really hectic at Kirin, but did they needed to serve 7 out of 10 course meal all at once after 5 mins of sitting down? Our table was jam packed with dishes and the kitchen kept sending more.. Leaving some dishes on the side and getting cold because we COULD NOT clear out fast enough. 2) Some of the food were barely warm or were cold. 3) I appreciate our server coming by to replace our plates when it gets some what crowded with bones or shells, but do they really needed to be hoovering around our table like flies? (F! word) I was just eating a crab leg and I wasn't even done yet and she pulled my plate taking half of my piece while I was eating the other half! I was about to loose it! We couldn't get to enjoy our dinner peacefully at all! Overall, it has been the worst experience ever! We WILL NOT BE COMING BACK AGAIN!!!
This is THE PLACE for dim sum. Not a huge variety but all items on the menu are of good quality. Service is way above most Chinese restaurants as well. Of course, the prices reflect that.
Kirin is always a good place to go if you want consistent quality for typical Chinese fare (whether its dim sum or lunch or dinner). They have a good variety of items on their menu. Their prices are reasonable for the quality of the dishes and for the level of service that they provide.
Really nice place for family or friends gathering , place is spacious , we eat Dianxin here, taste good, service waiter always checked at our table. Will recommend my friends here in the future.
Great foods fast service, make sure to have reservations otherwise it's a 45mins wait minimum
Good good, good service and reasonable price. It would be nice if they have some rice dishes.
Good but not the best..
Excellent servers, courteous and helpful... Excellent food, very tasty, good quality whether is dim sum or special dishes ordered.... Love this restaurant...highly recommend...
Food quality is still there. The bbq pork appetizer is done very well ..but very fatty if you like that style. They are a bit understaffed right now
Went here for dim sum. Food was ok. Service was terrible. The only person here with good customer service is the host at the front. Food arrived slowly. First dish arrived 30 min after ordering. Last dish arrived over an hour after ordering. When I asked the server standing next to me for the bill, he gave me the hand and walked away. How rude! Got another server’s attention for the bill. He forgot apparently and asked us again 5 minutes later if we wanted the bill.
Good food, great service.
Dim sum was great especially their crispy pork belly. Hubby loves going there for their freshly-made tofu dessert. However, it’s very unsightly and annoying to see flies hovering around in the restaurant. We took our friends there once and they were disgusted by it.
The food is excellent! The service is excellent! The venue is great!
Service was super slow, as they were pretty busy . Food took forever to come . And it was only subpar. I wouldn't go there again unfortunately .
Best dim sum in town, I don't go anywhere else. They have a selection of dim sum and changes their menu every few months. It's not expensive and the price is comparable to other dim sum locations but way better quality. Service is great when around- sometimes they get too busy and you will need to flag someone down to ask for something. But overall, my go to place for dim sum!
Great restaurant we really enjoyed our time together and good food and great friendly atmosphere
Food was tasty, service good , a bit pricey.
Food is good, but a bit slow. It might be nice if you have plenty of time to enjoy your food
Gordon made our experience here excellent. Spacious feeling due to covid restricted seating. Tables are very spaced out, giving lots of room and an airy, pleasant, uncrowded feeling. Deducted one star because portion sizes were much smaller than the average dim sum restaurants. Most dim sum baskets here come in 3 pieces instead of 4. But here, the food is clearly higher quality and the fried items are not as greasy.
First and final dim sum here in New West! So sad that we are in the 3rd wave of this fiasco and now there won't be anymore indoor dining as of midnight tonight for the first time in a year. Luckily my sourdough starter didn't grow fast enough in the cold weather, which means we could go get dim sum before it's too late. We love Kirin, because they are super reliable with great quality food, a great environment, and solid service. We had scallop/peatip/shrimp dumplings, deep fried taro dumplings with ground pork, rice roll wrapped deep fried bean curd and fish paste, deep fried glutinous dumplings with ground pork and mushrooms, BBQ pork buns with ginger, and egg tarts. The scallop/peatip/shrimp dumplings were my favourite - very delicate in flavour and texture with a nice texture contrast from the peatips. Everything else was solid too, but I did find the egg tart pastry a little on the thin and pale side. However, the egg custard filling was on point. Haven't had dimsum in ages due to COVID-19 restrictions. Kirin has nicely spaced out the tables. Dimsum selection is less than what a recall. The big thick menu isn't offered.
Nice ambiance and clean restaurant for Chinese restaurant standards. However, I would expect better service but it's about the same as other typical Chinese restaurants
Good food, honest business, excellent servers. We ordered Lobsters and other seafood, that's good deal and no cheating on the weight of seafood.
Really great food, and the staff was awesome
We came in and had some spot prawns with vegetables and rice. It was delicious! Anderson is the most friendly and helpful guy, with all the staff treating you well. Highly recommended and we will return soon.
Great food and great service. It's a bit pricier than other dim sum places, but it is definitely worthwhile.
One of the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been outside Asia.
Lunch Dim sum is excellent as always. Food service is professional, no issues. Dim sum dishes are freshly made, reasonable pricing as well. Dinner set menu itself is atrocious. Took 2.5 hours for all dishes to come out, when the party had finished the previous dish and were waiting. Set menu food was bland and had no flavor. Would recommend for lunch, but not dinner.
Great location. Other locations are usually packed with people, this one is nice that there are less people and alot of parking space. Food was great. Most popular dim sum items are good. I took 1 star off because some items are sold out way too fast, like the abalone pastry and desserts. We got there at 1 and it was already sold out.
I love the food and service was amazing! Price is average if you order from the monthly special
Dine in
Good food busy place
$$ This is one of my favorite restaurant. It has good food and good service. The restaurant set up makes you feel comfortable and not crowdy even though it's full of people. I also like their reservation system, they take only they can serve.
Sorry Kirin, it is very bad experience in your place. Food is not that good related the prices. I admited that it is a busy restaurant, we asked twice for service but no one replyed us.
Their dim sum was delightful and their tea was authentic. Definitely a place to check out if you are looking for traditional Chinese food.
Almost every dim sum dish that we ordered was delicious. The prices for dim sum are on the higher end than other dim sum places though. Although this is a fancy chinese restaurant. We went on a Saturday right at opening time and there was already a line up. Definitely a place that one should call a day ahead to make reservations for lunch on a weekend.
Gorgeous Chinese restaurant with comfy designs and tasty food
They market as a fine dining Chinese restaurant and surely deliver so. The ambiance is quite good. The service is very different from what you will get at places like cactus club, but still decent - imagine a typical Asian restaurant style. Rating a 4-star but not 5 because the food is really just okay. Foodies better go elsewhere. There are way better dim sums and Cantonese dishes in metro Vancouver.
Decided to go here for dinner last night and I was very disappointed in the service. Our table ordered about 6 dishes: chicken, black cod, sweet and sour pork, pea shoot, and beancurd with bok choy. The Cod and sweet and sour pork were good however the other dishes were under seasoned or not that special. For the price it was underwhelming. 2 issues that will not make me want to come back is one the food came out very slow. First was 2 of the meats, then 15 minutes later the last meat dish, and another 20 minutes later for the veggies. This made the dinner less enjoyable as the dishes weren't served together. The last major issue was one person at the table has a gluten sensitivity but can still enjoy food that does not directly contain gluten. The waiter kept making remarks about how we didn't want soy sauce, even though the dishes we ordered did not contain gluten. One dish was thickened with corn flour which is okay to eat but he came by and said "oh you're eating this, it has flour. I thought you were allergic". These comments were unnecessary and was quite sarcastic. I will not be recommending this place to anyone.
The Kirin is kind of pricey and serves average food. Service is good.
Gorgeous tasty food, excellent service, friendly staff, cozy sitting.
Washroom floor was full of piss! Very dirty not recommend!
One of the best Chinese seafood restaurants in the LM in service and quality of food.
Service was really good, but pretty average Chinese food. I really liked the dim sum though, main courses are full of oil.
a little bit of wait on the desserts apart from that is a good place to go with a large group of people
The best restaurant in Vancouver. Good food, friendly services and reasonable price. Thumbs up to Anderson, Chad, Carmen and all the staff.
This place have some really nice food. but their service is terrible and even insulting. Do not ask for Wifi from the service desk, they dont have it. and if you phone cant find wifi else where, they will mock you for choosing terrible phone
High quality restaurant. Top notch seafood. Great service.
great Chinese fare (Cantonese), superb service (mostly bi-lingual waiters, very polite and attentive), nice facilities, easy parking (shared parking with Starlight casino), relaxed ambiance, consistent food quality. a bit higher priced than lower tier restaurants, but worth every penny.
don't support this business. they sell shark fin soup
Kirin is always our top dim sum choice when we travel to Vancouver. Consistent quality of food, comfortable environment and good service.
If you want a amazing experience look no further than Kirin, fantastic food for even the gastronomic novice. The menu is massive and you will surely be able to find.
Been here twice and both times I had great dining experience. Larger area than other Kirin locations and parking is painless. Their signature durian cakes are my favourite. Limited quantity so don't forget to order them in advance. Service can be slow but the managers were very helpful and considerate. Would definitely recommend.
The most authentic Cantonese dim sum you can find in Vancouver. The staff were also very friendly and professional
Yummy dim sum
Good food and attentive staff. We have been patrons since they open their former location in City Square in Vancouver. Now that location is gone, this is our choice. We find all of the great food and many of the familiar, friendly, faces 8n this location. Parking us easy to find albeit it is a longer drive for us.
Good service. My dad works here and and I love it. They always friendly here and this place is a little expensive but still the best place to eat for me.
Food is usually excellent but my order not as good. I ordered multiple items for take out because there is no dine in during COVID-19 restrictions. I asked the staff there if everything in my order was in the box. He said yes. Anyway, when I got home one of the soup for the noodles was missing. Also in one of the siu mai had a tiny piece of bone. I didn’t go back to get my soup and complain about the bone found in the siu mai due to distance to Kirin. I didn’t expect this type of quality control would happen at Kirin. I’m a bit disappointed ???? I would have given them 4 ⭐️. Hopefully this is only an one off error.
Very delicious food and yummy dimsum!
Good dim sum
Food is good, services is good, BUT prepared you have to wait almost an hour between dishes, close to 4 hours for a dinner. BTW, restaurant is not very busy
I have had 2 experiences with this restaurant at this location and I found the staff to be unhelpful and management was very rude. I liked their downtown location better. I have tried making a reservation over the phone not to long ago and they rush to get you off the phone and cut you off during your conversation.
Food was good but service was terrible. Servers yelled at customers for their mistakessssss. The bill didn't show the dim sum ordered and one order by the table beside ours were charged to our bill.
Delicious Dim Sum! Had my first experience with a Durian Dessert, yummy!!!
We had an excellent Dim Sum lunch. It was my first time having Dim Sum. What a treat! The restaurant was busy, but we had reservations and were seated almost immediately. Everything was clean. The food was fresh and hot. All the dishes were served very traditionally. The flavors were amazing. I will definitely come back. Thanks Kirin.
Worst ever service. Made reservation a week ago and upon arrival, needed to wait an hour so they serve their Chinese speaking customers first. Service is slow and food is average. If you don’t need to come, don’t. Never again.
Need more selection for dim sum menu, most of them are chef special dishes. Services are better, if you sit by window. If not, hard to ask for help or they just annoying you.
Nice Dim Sum and good Customer Service. Unlike other restaurants, the hall is hugh and tables are apart from each other which provide enough social distancing space. Hard to find one to compare for Chinese Cuisines in the area. Decent price and worth to try!
Dim sum here is always good and consistent with quality and service. Good Covic 19 measures taken.
We booked the entire restaurant for our wedding reception in September. Chad was our coordinator who made our planning so much easier. The food was amazing (everyone was raving about the food), service was top notch, and the venue was beautiful. There is a garden adjacent to the restaurant where you can take pictures. There is a separate room to do the the ceremony. I will definitely hold my next big event here!!
Nice ambience, nice service, superior dimsum. Pricey though.
Best Chinese food experience ever had.
Good Food but expensive If you like dim sum or Chinese cuisine you should try out Kirin. They have a great dim sum selection but you will be paying close to $100 for four people.
Went here for dim sum with some friends. The food was really good. But the speed in which the food came out was very slow. As we not in a rush this was okay. Couple of items were really pricey so make sure you double check prices before you order .
Probably the best upscale traditional Chinese restaurant with both dim sum and dinner options. Can never go wrong here. They do have the best shrimp dumpling for dim sum in greater Vancouver.
Came here on the Sunday for Chinese new year. Food was decent, and they even had free desserts (mango pudding, read bean dessert soup, deep fried Chinese donut), and they gave warm lemony hand towels after As well. Plus, they gave red pocket envelopes with Daniel's chocolate inside. Not top tier chocolate, but pretty up there. Service was good.
The worst Kirin in town. Food are average. Always busy and I think main reason is it doesn't have a competitor in the area
Two dim sum were good , the other is still average... It's quiet pricing. But service is not bad.
We drove from North Vancouver in rush hour to enjoy a good meal. We arrived and only 7-8 tables occupied and my Mom, sister and I were informed by the front desk Host "We are full!" I said "excuse me?" Feeling confused as there were about 20 empty tables! He said it was full and we will have to wait 30 or so minutes. I had been there 3x before and had always been happy with their service but omg he refused to seat my mom, sister and me! Greatly disappointed in the Kirin Restaunt! We shook our head and walked out of there. I pointed to the tables and said "CLEARLY you are NOT full!!!"
Classic Cantonese restaurant, one of the few chain locations in Vancouver area. Great food and service. Very busy at weekends. This location has plenty of parking space.
Dim sum is highly recommended
Came here for dinner on Chinese New Year. Maybe it wasn't the best idea. The restaurant was fairly busy as expected but the kitchen had a real tough time getting food out. Took over 3 hours for all the dishes to arrive and the table beside us had the same issue as well. I suggest not coming on a special occasion. Despite the wait, the food was good.
If your looking for good sea food this is the place to go. The food is amazing and the service is great too!
Always serve good food, upscale service and price, will go again
The dim sum here is delicious. Place is very busy so I recommend going in early to grab a table, otherwise you may have to wait awhile to get a seat
This is top notch authentic Cantonese cuisine of the finest quality. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Servers changed my plate five times during my meal. Washrooms were clean with lots of parking.... Colocated with the Starlight casino. Treat yourself and eat here.
Very nice lobster soup noodle. Came with a side order of pork chops too. Good food.
Nice food ,but service depends...
A few friends and I always meet up here for Dim Sum. The food quality is always top notch, service is great, even better if you (or someone in your group) can speak Cantonese or Mandarin. Staff is all very professional. Prices are in line with the experience.
Hmm. Today's service is pretty slow. Granted it is Chinese New Year dim sum but the restaurant's not completely full. Good selection is good but the taste seems lacking. It's been better and certainly should be better given the restaurant's reputation.
Seriously good dim sum, and it's saying much considering the level of competition in Vancouver and area. Loved the Ha Gow, it had a bit of sweetness to it, delicious! Pricier than most other dim sum places, but well worth it. The interior is nice and pleasant, modern. Plenty of free parking as well.
It was o.k. not the greatest, host was really confused, asked me about my name and phone number,,not once , not twice ,but three timeshe running around like a chicken lost his head, small dim sum menu,
Quality and service its superb compare other restaurant. Must try durain mochi highly recommend its the restaurant one of the signature dessert on the menu.
