I have been dealing with J and L for many years. I bought almost my whole system through the mail order. Lowest prices and great service. Recently I had a problem with a light fixture that was way out of warrantee, they helped me figure out what the proper ballast was and how to replace it. One of the ballasts was wonky (not J and L's fault) they sent me a replacement immediately. Great and knowledgeable staff. I will be a life long customer for sure.

Really close to me so it's one of my first stops when I need supplies like airline tubing, pumps, filter media, ferts and chemicals for my planted tank; they specialize in saltwater but carry enough general aquarium supplies that all aquarists need. I have to say these guys really look after their livestock. Very informative and don't mind being asked lots of questions. When asked to see the fish feed they have no problem demonstrating eating habits. They use quality lighting for the frags and ensure when you buy they are in good health. Very happy shopping here

March 20, 2021- love coming here for all my salt and fresh water supplies. Great place to take the kids. Better than going to the aquarium when you can learn to build your own. This place has salt water creatures of all kinds and great prices with experienced customer service. Great bulk pricing on many products. All staff are great and love what they do. Saturday September 19, 2020 - quite a long line up to get in. They only allow a handful of people in at a time due to protocols re covid19. Staff wearing masks came outside and helped customers shop for items they were sure they wanted to buy right away. This helped with the wait times and kept everyone happy. Also sharing conversations while in line made the wait worthwhile.

To my greatest joy I was contacted by Jeff the next morning where he figured out the problem (which was my fault). Great service and they treat their customers with great respect. Nice store...very clean & the tanks well maintained. They have some really nice corals and salt water fish for sale. The prices are really reasonable and the selection is vast. The prices are for everyone, not just those with fat wallets. Everyone who works there is very nice, helpful and more than willing to answer any questions i had. There is a large parking lot there, however during the weekdays it is super busy, and the parking was abit tight. On the weekends the parking is no problem. For anyone without a vehicle, the skytrain station is directly across the street. J&L is wheelchair accessible and the store is easy to move around in.

Starting up my first SW tank and lots of selections of things to do that. Only thing I didn’t buy on their two day sale was the Tunze skimmer cause I wanted to do more research before I buy it. Went back today but they won’t even give me back the same price. It’s just $20 off but now I found a store online with the sale price. Too bad a new customer now have to shop somewhere else.

The place has an pretty amazing selection of salt water fish. Also has a solid selection of aquarium accessories. And decent prices. However the atmosphere in the store was sombre and heavy as if someone had recently passed. Also, staff seemed oddly quiet and subdued. Good place to pick things up if you know what you want.

This is one of the few places that carries aquatic hobby plumbing parts. Bulkheads, barb fittings, strainers, hosing. They're a saltwater livestock shop and have some really nice fish in really good condition. Everytime I've been there, the staff is never idle in the fishroom. They are either doing maintenance or cleaning the glass on all the displays. It's easy to see why their livestock is in such good condition. Massive invertebrate selection. Good selection of all aquatic supplies, and even a Tropica plant display. Lots of frozen foods and extensive dry goods. I asked for advice about flow rates for a gravity fed moving bed filter and the person helping me answered without hesitation. It's nice to deal with a shop that really knows their product. Thinking back, it was a pretty obscure question and he even related flow concerns because of the strainer and barb fitting I had chosen. Great shop. Easy to recommend.

While I can understand the existence of supplier shortages, I find it difficult to forgive the fact that I was not informed of this shortage for months until I as the customer took initiative in pressing for more information. For over three months I was kept in the dark about the status of my order (see first image). Compare this to another company I have just ordered from following my order cancellation here: I am to be a given a step-by-step status of my order (see second image). Unfortunately, this other company had to be out of province so I cannot support a local business as was my goal. Again, this is not so much a criticism of your company on the grounds of your competency in sourcing items as it is an expression of my disappointment as a customer.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! My 1.5 year old protein skimmer’s body started to deteriorate (won’t mention the brand). Within half an hour of emailing J & L, John phoned me in Ontario to ask about the details. Within a few hours he had contacted the manufacturer. For a reasonable price for the replacement skimmer body, J & L had the issue resolved in a day. I HIGHLY recommend J & L.

J&L is pretty much the go-to store in the lower mainland for the saltwater aquatics hobby. The staff are friendly and helpful, though levels of knowledge varies. The store is pretty well organized and clean, especially if you compare it to competitors. They have about two big sales each year, their boxing day sale usually offers some pretty good deals.

The manager is a stickler for returns, even if you spend $20,000 and want to return a small item. I would encourage him to consider his loyal customers in these feedback systems as many other great stores around BC (Canada Corals, Shoreline Corals, Blue World Aquariums) and out East (Candy Corals, Fragbox, Reefsupplies, etc.) are adding growing competition to the market. I would love to see a quarantine option for customers seeking to minimize disease risk, as well as a purchase point system for valuable customers in line with the competition. Overall, a quality store with good folks who work hard on the front line. Happy to support J & L.

J&L is the quintessential LFS. They are everything a reefer wants. The place is CLEAN. Always well stocked. Their price lists are in full view for all customers, no secrets. Quality fish, quality coral, quality products and a quality staff who run the place like a top. I had an issue with a part that broke off of my skimmer due to weight as I was moving the assembly to my sump. They said to bring it in, they contacted the manufacturer to see if it could be warrantied as a defect, and they sent me away with a replacement skimmer body. Excellent service, and they stand behind their product and vendors.

This is the cleanest and most fairly priced coral store I've ever seen. Never had any problems with all the livestock I've bought from this store. Compare to other coral stores, Vancouver's and Toronto's. Only J&L has the most fair price. Also the corals are diverse and healthy. The marine fish are also very healthy, all the fish bought from this store have not got white spot disease and other diseases. The staff at this store are very patient and answer all your questions. Especially John, from the beginning to help me set up my tank, to the later stage when I encountered various problems, he was able to help me solve the problems professionally and quickly. If you are a newbie, I believe J&L is your best choice.

Beware if you have registered account with J&L and you would like to make purchase of their product and also register the product under your account with them. You have to claim that you have the account with J&L BEFORE they print out the receipt. For whatever reason, only few staffs from counter will ask you if you have account with them. I do believe they have "difficulty" to register the item under your account after the receipt has been print. They will tell you that you have to inform them upfront. (At least for me) Pros: - Great price in the lower mainland for freshwater, sometimes it got Tropica Aquarium Plants in stock but did not have too many variety as Aquarium West. - Lowest price guarantee, you can provide the local price to price match. - Registered account with J&L, if you link your purchased product to the registered account with J&L then if you have any product or warranty issue you can just bring the product back without the receipt. Cons: - Return policy is not really flexible compare to Pet Smart and other enterprise level store. - Customer service is really depends on which person who serve you. I have been here for several years. Only two of staff have well knowledge, welcome tone and provide comfort customer service. Some of the staffs showed unprofessional service when I visited there.

Been going here for a decade. I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars here. Have purchased everything from custom tanks, high priced LED lighting to hordes of livestock and coral. Prices are competitive and for many things other Canadian retailers base their pricing on what JL charges. Definitely a market leader in the SW aquarium business. Only thing lacking is service once and a while. It is often very busy so I cut them some slack on that.
