This Fish Shop is included in the category of Takeout restaurant.
Delicious food with generous portions. Their steak and mushroom pie is so good! The crust is flaky and filled with tender chunks of beef. The Fish wasn't drowned in batter. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food. This is being added to my list of Go-To places in New Westminster. Waitress (i didnt get her name but she was young and had tattoos) was amazing. Fantastic service. Friendly and welcoming staff.
This fish and chips restaurant is authentic British style, and always excellent. Great prices too! Come on Thursday or Sunday and you have Red Snapper as well as cod, halibut and hake to choose from.
I was willing to try out a new fish and chips joint. I saw the reviews and really, the reviews lead me here, but lemme tell you, i was not impressed at all. The energy level was not so great, i felt rushed. ambience was okay, due to covid its much different now. Its the new normal. :Food: Sizing: Not what i expected for spending 33 dollars for 2. The fries looked a lot less than what it should be. But i was decently full in the end, Guess it was just the hunger. But i was really expecting a big size . and a huge satisfactory. I left being puzzled if that was any good or not. It confused me. Ever had that feeling when something was not sitting right. Yknow it wasnt that great. Coleslaw: Was a bit odd, Flavour was kind of meh, but it tasted a little fishy. it had an after taste that i did not appreciate. Cod: A bit salty, Dry. Flaky. Not what other fish and chips has to offer down in white rock or steveston richmond. Seriously. Tartar sauce: was not flavourful at all, was completely sad because if you dont have great tartar sauce, you dont have great fish and chips. Thats just the way it is. Tartar sauce looked just like mayo and no initial kick to the palette. Side bread: I wish the buns were toasted, would have been nice to add. and the bread was super dry and flaky. It was HARD to swallow ???????? Service: was great, the server was nice she kept checking in every 15-20 mins. :) have to appreciate the servers for their work during these rough times. To sum it all together. If you are naming your restaurant kings fish and chips, i think you should focus on making those fish and chips really good, since its the highlight of your restaurant. Maybe it was the wrong timing, but consistency is always key. Dear people, please dont listen to the reviews but try it out yourself. It doesnt hurt. You'll know what i am talking bout. I wont be back cause there is no poiint, there are better fish and chips joints out there. ???????? Goodluck!
The service we received from Bianca was exceptional, she made suggestions for all of our group , she was very knowledgeable of the menu. The food arrived fairly quickly and it was delicious , her suggestions were spot on. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Worst fish and chips I've ever had. I don't know whether Covid made things worse. This place was never great but not this bad. Soggy fish and chips like you reheated it a day after. Overcooked fish. All this for 33 dollars?
Fish Lover's Delight My husband and I finally made the outing to this fish & chip in New Westminster after reading their latest review in the Vancouver Sun. We ordered a 2 PC halibut dinner and a 2 PC salmon dinner. For an appetizer we shared a half order of onion rings. Our onion rings arrived cooked with a tempura batter coating. It was delicious. The batter allowed the onion rings to remain moist, light and less greasy than your typical battered rings. This boded well for our fish dinners. My salmon arrived surrounding a huge serving of hand chipped fries that were perfectly cooked. Both the salmon and halibut pieces were quite substantial in size and each were enrobed in the light tempura batter. All of the fish was moist, meaty and a light golden colour. We were not disappointed. The only thing that was an annoying disappointment was their table side tartar sauce-- it was not a real tartar but more of a light yellowish colour mayo with no hint of dill or bits of diced cornichons. Service was continuously busy as we arrived at dinner time. The open concept frying area made it entertaining to see the fish orders being cooked and picked up for service or take out. Efficient wait staff. A bit of a wait for a table. Open airy restaurant with inside and patio seating. All you eat fish (pollack) & chips on Mon- Wed for $12.95/ person including pop. The takeout menu board is located bear the door and order counter. Prices are less expensive for take out. A bit of a drive for fish and chips but hey you have to try it at least once ????
Lovely place and valuable menus also nice services. I highly recommend this place.
The host and the server who helped us last Sunday were absolutely nice and upbeat. The fish were more than enough to fill you up. I love going here and it's so worth it.
We have recently moved to New Westminster and live close by to this place. We have tried it 3 times and each time we had the halibut and fries. Hands down the best fish and chips in the lower mainland. Pricey but worth it.
Service
Excellent service, excellent food and excellent prices. The staff are very friendly and easy going. I always get take out, but I am sure the wait staff inside are wonderful too. Oh, I love the fish and chips. I always get Salmon or halibut but the cod is nice too. They have burgers too! Again, I get the salmon burger. Just #yummy! I guess the only negative I can give is sometimes it is greasy, but come on - it is deep fried fish and chips.
very good two pieces with fries was $13.95 good batter not to greasy we ordered an order of onion rings and it was huge a bit greasy would go back we sat on the patio and the table were very uneven so was not great
Old school traditional fish and chips. But you can order grilled as well. Salmon, cod, halibut... Fresh cut British chips. Mushy peas too... Fantastic staff! Worthy of all their awards.
Great service, came here based off of yelp reviews in search of a yummy fish and chip spot aside from my regular spot in false creek. Great prices, portion size and delicious light batter. We had the Louisiana shrimp and 2 pieces of cod with fries, along with a couple pints of 1516. We were full and satisfied. Don’t be turned off that this is located in a mini mall, the patio definitely makes you forget that in my opinion because it’s off to the side. Can’t wait to go back!
Have only gotten takeout. They have the best fish ever!! The chips could be more crispy and salty tho. But fish alone is worth 5 stars.
My brother liked his Paddock and chips. The portion is huge. My Cod was light and crispy. I also got a side of mushy peas which was very buttery and comforting:) Service was great and friendly. The Interior was filled with Decor from England.
Handsome portion of fish n chips. Brilliant coleslaw.
Quite literally the BEST fish and chips in the lower mainland!! Friendly staff, quick service, and food comes out fresh and hot. Prices super reasonable. The manager here is great too! What more can you ask for? Highly recommend.
Just ate here July 30 2021 530 pm the food was awesome. Had oysters as a starter yummy. Had halibut and coleslaw as main .very impressive. Mikayla was my server excellent personality. Makes eating here's awesome thank Cockeykings you beat c-lovers hands down. Oct 1 won't come back pushing Vax pass asked for extra tartar because I couldn't eat in extra cost you guys will lose a lot of customers when you find out this is a hoax
Have been eating here a few times with family. Great food, good prices, but now they asking for Vax Pass which is way beyond normality.. I do not support business which segregates and discriminates people, weather you vax or not. Will not be eating there anymore, neither my family or friends..
One of the best fish n chips in Vancouver can be found here. They do provide different selection in the menu and the quality is amazing. Good beer deals on Fri-Sun and when we asked additional coleslaw (small size) then our server Kendra brought a full plate of coleslaw (probably they thought we liked it so much lol, but it was quite generous from them). Appreciate the service...!!! Will always keep on visiting.
Friendly service, good beer. I jad a Calamari starter and was amazed, then there's the cod and chip, which is just as awesome. Though not a great fan for the chips, not that it's bad, just not my preference. Probably best to skip that next time.
Pretty classic fish n chips, even wrapped in paper. Way too many chips (not a complaint) and great ones at that. Fried Oysters were good and very reasonable. Only reason it's 4 stars is scant tartar but that's okay cuz it's very sweet and odd anyways. Needs some vinegar/dill. Tasted closer to coleslaw dressing than tartar. But only kudos on the actual fish n chips. Great stuff.
Friendly and nice staff, Cockney King's fish and chips are always good. They have eat all you can pollock fish (I don't like this fish), bottomless drink. 2 fish is too much for me so I ordered 1 fish and 3 prawns which is 1.75 each for the prawn.
Really enjoy this place, I had the 1 piece halibut fish and chips dinner. The batter is crispy but thin, the fish is really good quality, no bones whatsoever and the halibut was thick and compact, great texture. The chips are plentiful and tasty. I am not a fan of tartar sauce but from what I have been told by the guests of mine it's delicious (which is a good indicator alone for a fish and chip place). Bathrooms and tables are tidy and clean. Staff are great and friendly. I've been here multiple time and will not stop going anytime soon. Love it here. ❤️
I haven't been here in years but glad we visited again. This review comes in the middle of the no indoor dining restriction. However, the patio here is open. Dress warmly. The service is quick and friendly and there is constant pick up and take away orders as well. We ordered calamari, fish and chips of course and poutine'd some of the chips. Solid food and prob best fish and chips around. Do yourself a favour and stop by, you won't regret it!
Best fish place in Burnaby hands down, great staff, really good price and serving size on fish and chips. Come early as they get busy fast early in the evening, food came to the table fast and was too hot to eat right away. But the best part of the experience is the tarter sauce is free and it's delicious!
Neighbourhood staple. Came for the all you can eat special, and really enjoyed it. If you're only a. It hungry, regular portions will be more than enough. Staff was great and helpful as always. Will be back.
Usually go here for all-you-can-eat Fish and chips OR oyster burger dinner. Today, decided to try the 3 tacos with 2cod & 1 shrimp. Love the batter, what what (spicy sauce) and the salsa. Will return to have this exact meal again :) I always ask my server for hot sauce and 1 out of 3 times have I only gotten it (seriously)! Updated pic of oyster burger and 3 tacos for summer 2021
Fantastic restaurant. Ordered from here a LOT throughout the pandemic. They know how to pack it to travel! I was quite impressed. Food quality is fantastic and the portions are generous. Housemade tartar and cocktail sauces bring me back to the days I myself worked in a fish and chip shop. Dine in gives a real family feel.
Halibut and chips - the light crispy and tasty batter perfect cooked around what tasted like fresh caught halibut was a pleasure to eat. The chips were crisp and tender just like a good British chippy should be. This small and busy place is a bit shabby in decor, yet makes up for it with the friendly and fast service and great food.
Great fish & chips shop! We came on a busy Friday evening so there was about a 20 min wait. Service was a little slow because it was a busy night and our server was a little frazzled. However, she was friendly and I feel like she was doing her best. Besides fish & chips, our table ordered chicken strips, salad with grilled halibut and mushy peas. Everything was great. Been here many times, will be back again!
My friend from Seattle is addicted to this place... I must it's pretty good. I usually just get 2 piece cod.but the last time we went I tried the tacos... amazing!
a friend and i came here for some fish and chips in late August. I had the haddock. it was so good. nice fresh fish, batter texture was crisp and airy, the chips were real potatoes cut fresh never frozen - delightful! service was fast and unobtrusive, prices were great, especially for the quality.
I guess when you order extra tartar sauce it means you get one tartar sauce in total…not even a lemon wedge provided. Extremely frugal offerings for the price.
Excellent fish and chips at a reasonable price. Atmosphere was comfortable and not too fast food ish. Really did not like having the server hover over me as i paid by visa. The option for tipping is outragious 15% to 30%. Anytime i see 30% I automatically go for 10%.
Good 'ol fish and chips done well. Not at all greasy. The deep fried oysters we're good too. All COVID-19 safety measures in place. Good service.
Best fish and chips! Mushy peas are a hot! Good prices! Busy place, eat in or take out! Fast service with quality fish and chips, including daily special, and halibut. Alcohol served here, family dining friendly, low class feel, needs an interior upgrade, but the food is top notch with homemade fries cut in house.
Service was great. Food was OK. Their tar tar sauce isn't as creamy as I like tar tar sauce to be, quite sweet and vinegary .the fish tasted good but I suspect the deep fryer oil was a bit old so everything had a slightly burnt and off after taste. I was expecting a bit better in terms of food quality.
A nice place to enjoy great seafood and the London classic fish and chips. Everything very well prepared and served by a kind staff.
It was my first time trying this fish and chip joint, and I was very disappointed and will not be back. I ordered take out and when I opened my cod and chips, the fish was very soggy and dry the paper was all stuck to the fish and I had to peel it off so I didn't eat it The gravy tasted like powdered gravy and it was not tasty. My friends salmon had bones in it and was soggy as well. The fries were okay, I've had fish and chips many times before and this was by far the worst.
The food was disgusting, almost inedible, everything was soaked in grease, calamari was still raw. Also my order was not complete, I had to go back to get the missing items. I don’t think I would go back anymore!
Dine in
Calamari,a cup of mushy peas, 1 piece Haddock and fries dinner(dinner comes with a roll and slaw). Busy restaurant, service was prompt with the food coming out quite quickly. A good value with a middle of the road flavour. I've been spoiled with some of the freshest fish from Atlantic waters so I'm quite critical. Despite being critical,I enjoyed my meal ,and I'm sure you will as well!
Best Fish and Chips around! You can tell they use hot and fresh oil the way their batter comes out light and crispy. Recently tried their prawns...best prawns I've ever tasted! Service is always great as well. You won't regret giving them a try ????
Love that they check for vaccine passports! and Bianca was an amazing server :) she was funny, attentive, and had a wonderful attitude. The food was good as well. Will be back. Thank you Bianca!
Great fish and chips at a really reasonable price! Light crispy battered fish with terrific fries (crispy, not greasy). Was even allowed to sub onion rings for fries at no extra charge. (Awesome!) Staff were friendly and courteous. Too as it's so far from where I live (maybe that's a good thing)! But I'd return whenever I'm in New West.
Dinner
Came here on Aug 1st. First time and I gotta say it was really good. Well worth the stop in. The prices are about average for fish and chips.
Probably the best fish & chips AND service you can get in this neck of the woods. My mom, who basically doesn't like eating out for fear of getting poor service, had a very pleasant time here thanks to the waitresses. Highly recommend the fried oysters; the signature soup was interesting.
A very tasty fish joint. They have good portions for the price. The fish is will prepared and the breading was crisp and light if not heavy in flavour. The seating is old fashioned and I am told the clientele tends to older as they offer a good all you can eat option. Parking is abundant and they are close to both the sky train and bus routes. Bathrooms were clean. Gets busy during lunch rush as it is popular.
My husband is super picky when it comes to fish and chips, and this was his favourite by far. Great light batter, clean halibut taste and everything was hot and fresh. Poutine was tasty and the battered dogs were great too! Highly recommend.
Tried their all you can eat, Only from Monday - Wednesday. Very fresh, juice and crispy. Friendly staff. Recommended!
Awesome place for fish n chips. Customer service is always great here. We ordered the 2 piece cod with chips. Portion size was big. The entree coleslaw you can swap out for more chips which gives you a big side dish of fries. Overall extremely satisfying food. Recommended
Great family deal. Fish batter is crispy on the outside, not oily and inside is juicy. Chips are crispy outside and fluffy inside. Bianca was a good and attentive waitress.
Wow! I’ve been looking for good fish n’ chips in the Pacific Northwest since moving here from New England 4 years ago, and I finally found it at Cockney Kings. For starters, they offer haddock, and, more importantly, the fish is beer battered (none of this panko nonsense!) and perfectly crisp on the outside. The staff were genuinely friendly both on the phone and in person. Food came out quickly and exactly as ordered. Highly recommend!!!
Meal type
I got the all you can eat which is pollock & chips. It's good value but the pollock itself does not have much taste. Everything was fried well though.
This is Cockney Kings new westminster location we usually go to their north burnaby restaurant . Both locations have great service and they say their secret is their batter and I think their right it's not greasy fish and chips. My wife ordered the regular salmon fish and chips I ordered the pan fried salmon on a bed of salad , they do such a good job of it as you can tell by the picture its one of my favorites. The prices are also very reasonable and service is always very friendly !
Excellent fish and chips! If you have an appetite, go for their all-you-can eat pollock and chips offered a few days a week. (If you like cod, you won't mind pollock.)
Now this is what a Fish and chips Restaurant should be. No pasta, no salads, no steaks, just a great selection of fresh fish and side dishes cooked to perfection . I tried this mixed sampler plate and everything was awesum. Always busy but worth the wait and they do a lot of takeout. Service was excellent and very reasonable prices..will return
Come to this place a lot with friends, good food at a good price. Could have been a 5 star but I would have gave it 3.5 stars if I could. Service the past couple of times been not good but the food was still great. Out server/host acted as if my friend and I were rude and we didn't do anything. As a local that comes often it was a bit disappointing.
Had the small plate version of the cod fish n chips for lunch today. Fresh, crispy and tasty !
One of my favourite Fish and Chips places, specifically the New Westminster location. Food is always fresh, and the batter on the fish was not oily and greasy. Pictured is the 1 piece Cod and Chips with coleslaw! Have also gotten food to go from here and still tasted great.
Great fish and chips place. I got the all you can eat pollock and chips for $13.95 and everything was great. Crispy batter, moist fish, good fries. Will definitely be back.
I have to say I am usually in love with the food but last night not so much. We ordered to go as we usually do. Ordered adult pack of halibut and fries with the sides. I added mushy peas to it as that is one of the highlights to me. I love the fries with the peas. As I opened the mushy peas a stream of watery goop poured out all over my counter. It was like pea soup that hadn't been finished cooking. So after cleaning up the mess of green goop I sat down to eating my fries without my peas but even the fries weren't as good as normal. The Cole slaw was also very chunky like someone said oh that's good enough when chopping the cabbage without quite finishing. I sure hope that it was just a bad night and this isn't an indication of the quality going down hill. I have no idea how anyone could have filled the container with those mushy peas though and not noticed they were only half done. Sad as it is one of the few places I still eat out at.
Fast service and good food. I had the calamari appetizer and the wild salmon dinner. The salmon especially was quite tender and delicious. Overall a bit greasy, but that's the point of fish and chips.
I only ever get cod, but definitely my favorite fish and chips place.
If you are interested in some good ol fish & chips. Come to this place. Ample parking, friendly staffs. They have a AYCE pollock (fish) & chips with refillable pop. Besides their special, there have a variety of fishes available for fish & chips such as cod, halibut plus their chowder. Check their menu online to find out what they have. Happy eating ...
