I'm prefacing this review with the fact that our 2 week maritime provinces marathon has been nothing but amazing, meeting very friendly and warm visitors and shop owners alike, and we will be back to explore more of eastern Canada.
So... We decided to stop by this place for fresh cooked lobster, and also ordered lobster rolls and their deep fried scallops. The food quality was decent, although it was Wierd they didnt have any lobsters bigger than 1 1/4 lb.... Being so close to Shediac and the coast it was disappointing. However we were tight on time so picked up a couple of lobsters and the lobster roll dinner with two rolls fries and coleslaw. It took awhile (about 15 min) to get our food (other than the cooked lobsters) but again the quality was decent especially the scallops.
Why I gave them a 1 star rating is the horrible service (or lack of) that we received. It was very obvious we were tourists and had a couple of questions about the food. The responses we got, coupled with the insulting looks from the girl's face (as if we should have known the answers to our questions already) spoke volumes of her lack of empathy, general kindness and understanding towards others. I chalked it up to her just having a bad day and woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I told myself it was nothing personal, untiI after I spoke to a nice local (an older gent) who gave us some great advice in the area.
The girl apparently knows how to smile, laugh, and carry a conversation as that's why he received after talking to her in French. My kids were fluent in French if we thought that would have helped.
I don't think the questions we asked were dumb. We spoke perfect English, and were polite in our requests. The only thing I can think of that would have caused this beheaviour (which we haven't seen anywhere else on our trip) is that we were not welcome in the store, perhaps because of our appearance. I'm not Caucasian, but a proud Canadian for over 40 years, and bleed white and red like every other Canadian from coast to coast. I never want to consider race as an issue , although I am fully aware of the realities we face today.
Perhaps I'm completely wrong about her, but this was one huge blemish on an otherwise trip I have planned for our family for years.
If nothing else, don't bother going there for Lobster as they were small compared to what we've been accustomed to on the trip. (maybe there was a reason why they were smaller, but we were not about to engage in a conversation with her after the way she treated us).
If the owner is reading this, please have a chat with this girl. We were there around 130pm on Thursday August 8. Food was good but she gave us every reason to walk out and never come back. Teach her humility and empathy, it will take her far in her young life.
Sorry for the essay everyone, but it was good to get this off my chest.
