Best fish and chips. Great atmosphere
Amazing food, best fish around! Atmosphere is amazing, as right on the pier. Staff is super friendly, and courteous. Had the Fresh Halibut, wife had the Cod, and we both shared the Crab Cakes. There were not any crumbs left behind, even the fries! We will be making sure to stop every time we visit the Island!
Good food, atmosphere ok.
Fish was amazing, fresh, and tasty (I had the halibut). The chips were ok. The only reason I didn't give it more than 3 stars was the price. It was a little steep for what you get. Price for 2 pieces of halibut a small amount of chips and a small serving of coleslaw with a bottle of diet Pepsi came out to over $30.00.
Really good fish and chips, love the floating barge restaurant and seating.
Classic dock style fish & chips. Would have enjoyed it more if they provided an estimated wait time when they know it's busy. It seemed busy when we orsered, but nothing substantial. Little did we know we were in for a 45 min wait for take out. Further at $21 for a 2 piece halibut it was good fish, but the fries were soggy. We also asked twice if all condiments including tartar sauce and coleslaw were in the takeout containers and they confirmed they were. Sadly they were not. This could be a good place to eat but unfortunately I will not return or recommend it.
Always very pleased with our delicious fresh halibut or cod fish n chips from the docks at Trollers Ambiance and location our a huge bonus to the experience. Definitely one our favourite go to places for fish and chips. Stay and eat it right on premises or wander to a shady spot under a tree We always enjoy taking a peaceful scenic walk on the sea wall for ice cream after dinner or lunch
Kinda cool to sit on a floating patio and eat fish and chips. Bathroom was a bit of a hike (by warf master building, not in restaurant). Prices were very reasonable and good selection of vinegars for chips.
Great place for fish and chips on the water. Excellent service, too.
Great fresh food, great hospitality by servers, amazing menu items and fair prices.
Good food...cool location...reasonably priced.
Best fish and chips in Nanaimo. Light breading but still lots of crunch.
Excellent sharkn ???? Aka halibut service was great staff is very outgoing overall 10+2 my daughter and I will definitely be back
Great Halibut and fries
Great food, great view ???????? I will be back ????
All-round great experience. Got to enjoy fish & chips with the family on the dock. The staff was friendly. Can't go wrong with trying this.
Staff were a delight! Fish was excellent. Delicious crispy batter with perfect flaky texture inside. Good flavor. Love that they tell you which fish is fresh too
Excellent, fresh - caught seafood. Only fresh fish sold at Trollers.
Ordered one piece of cod and ended up with a pleasant surprise of a bonus piece. Lovely service. I would recommend stopping by.
Great food. The price did increase a fair amount over recent years.
Just incredible. Probably the best fish and chips I've had in years and I was born on one of the islands here. Crispy and light batter with perfectly done halibut and cod had me and my dinner companion absurdly happy with the meal. The calamari was top shelf too. If you're used to chewy stuff out of the frier from a freezer bag, this melt in your mouth sensation is gonna ruin everything else for you forever. Well worth the visit!
Food was good. Atmosphere good. Love being by the water. A bit expensive
Beautiful setting in the inner harbour, but the best fish and chips come from Riverside at South Gate plaza. The setting at Riverside is nothing to write home about but for take out you can't beat the service or the food!
Got a 2-piece halibut and chips, with tip it cost over $20. Very small portions. Fries were end of the bag micro-fries. Coleslaw did not taste good and I did not eat it. The fish tasted okay but it wasn't anything to write home about. The fish pieces were tiny, the two-piece actually looked like a one-piece cut in half. Overall just very poor value. Left still hungry. They were also out of salmon and cod so options were very limited.
Sorry to say I had their DF Sockeye salmon a few weeks ago it was dry over cooked tail ends with almost no batter to be found , I guess if you want a properly done piece of DF Sockeye salmon you’ll have to take a drive to Maggie’s Fish & Chips in Chase River now that’s “Perfection” Updated: There is no doubt l had a bad experience I did have a nice talk with the manager over the meal she invited me back , I’m looking forward to it “l know Trollers can put out a perfect piece of DF Sockeye salmon” Thanks Penny for making a bad experience a good one .
Haven't been disappointed yet, great service and seafood. Pay a little more for the ambiance, but worth it.
Stunningly good food. But when dining outside you're sharing with the bees.
Food really good, not too long of acwait. A little pricey though & GF options were expensive
Excellent food, awesome staff. Everyone working fast and hard to get good food to the customers.
Really good food. Takes a while tho
Great service by the hostess and delicious fish. The grilled salmon burger was a bit dry but the fish and chips were phenomenal. Some staff need further training, such as the cashier taking orders.
Worst fish and chips I ever had. The fish batter was soggy with oil, too bad, people rave about it so much but for me it was a waste of money and time ... ugh
The fish and chips here (and everything else) is just so good. Have ordered both at the window and on the phone with excellent results. Be advised this isn't good fast food, it's great fried food, so expect to relax a bit while they make it for you. The atmosphere on the docks is awesome, and plenty to do around the area before and after you eat.
I didn't enjoy my meal at all. Fish was soft. The chips were too thin and the mushy peas were mashed sweet peas not British mushy peas. Good location but I will not be going back. I was really looking forward to eating here as there were lots of reviews. So disappointing. I had 2 piece halibut and chips, calamari and "mushy peas". Update: We were back on the Island and decided to try it again after the reply from Trollers that our last meal was unusual. It was so much better this time! The batter was light and crispy as stated in the reply. I am not sure what happened the first time but we thoroughly enjoyed the halibut, the server and the atmosphere this time. There was a gentleman playing the keyboard while we were eating which added to the experience.
Best fish and chips, super crispy and light batter. The prawns were amazing too, very fast service and fun atmosphere in the harbor.
Lots of people appear to love their fish & chips here, so just consider this to be one person's opinion... To me, the halibut tasted like cod. It was moist and tender, but was surrounded by a grease-soaked batter. The tarter sauce was potent and overpowering. The fries were plentiful, but mushy. I'm fairly certain they were from frozen. For the excessive price they charge, they should be fresh cut. Friendly staff.
The chips since the long cod were both excellent.
Delicious!!
Great for a healthier and fresher version of Fish N Chips. I went for the Halibut option which was tasty. When it came out it looked small but I was perfectly full when I finished! Would visit again if in Nanaimo (though there are a few more nice places to try in the area). Staff were friendly.
1. This place is in a great location. 2. The staff is extremely friendly and organized. We were very impressed with their hard work. 3. It’s delicious! Tried Ling Cod for the first time and really enjoyed it. ????????
Generous portions of tasty, local fish. Fried oysters and calamari also fantastic. Chips are just okay. Maybe we got a older batch? But you’re coming for the seafood, right? I’d definitely come back.
Excellent fish and chips. For all you tourists in Manitoba when you arrive in Nanaimo this place is a must. Fresh fish and the best place in Nanaimo. It is a must.
Great food and fair prices.
It was good. More fast food style. Was expecting something phenomenal. View was of buildings behind wharf and not the water. Would recommend for something quick and fishy. But not a pier experience. Staff was great!!!
Quick and very tasty fish and chips.
Would highly recommend the two piece cod fish n chips here. A lot cheaper than the halibut and not appreciably different. Fish was hot and crispy, batter wasn't too doughy or greasy. Fish pieces were were a good size and not overly battered. Fries were very good too.
Best English style Fish and Chips on all of Vancouver Island. If there's only one restaurant you visit whilst in Nanaimo or Courtenay, this is the place to go for authentic Fish and Chips. They also serve a variety of other seafood dishes too if fish isn't your thing.
Great fish and chips. Cleaned and sanitized tables between customers.
A nice waterfront dining area
Crispy yet tender and moist fish. Real good.
2 piece halibut and chips and crab cakes, approx $40. Decent but not amazing. No alcohol license. Nice location by the docks.
Food was subpar,Prices were way above the quality and portion size.
Fresh and crispy fish and chips! Mmmmmm
Really really amazing fish fillets! The best I've ever had. The halibut fillets are very fresh and immediately melt in your mouth. You don't even have to chew. The only thing I docked was because of the price and the fries. The price is definitely steep for 2 pieces of halibut. I also count the fries as non existent because they were not good at all. A little soggy, and no flavour to them. Fish fillets: 100000/5 and the fries were 0/5.
They didn't give to business information about business hours etc...
Excellent good, amazing service and great atmosphere. For how busy they always are, amazing????????????????
Cod was fresh and delicious. Crispy batter and tender on inside. Coleslaw tasted freshly made. Located on dock at the waterfront.
great food good fast service :) quality fish and well priced for being on the harbour
Amazing fish and chips! Our server was fantastic and friendly! Really great location!
Really good food. First Fish and Chips that I have tried that is not greasy. Very yummy. I will come back for sure!
A wonderful light batter on the fish. The coleslaw was lovely (and I normally don't eat coleslaw).
Great tasting Fish and chips on the water with great service.
Very good love the cod bites and ???? kinda expensive but a really nice treat
Very good fish and chips ????????
Troller's Fish and Chips is a seasonal warm weather business that operates right on the Nanaimo waterfront boardwalk and is located on a floating platform on the harbour docks. The location is a big part of the appeal as you can enjoy your meal while watching the harbour traffic. Troller's is a must see restaurant if you are visiting the beautiful Nanaimo waterfront harbour. We have been here many times and have found that they serve a solid ten out of ten fish and chip meal. I usually order the two piece cod and chips. My sons have tried the salmon and haddock as well. All looked delicious and were cooked to perfection. The fish burgers are also good, but I prefer their fish and chips. The tartar sauce was spot on and the coleslaw was crunchy and refreshing. The entire staff was professional and friendly. The service is very fast and we noticed they even weigh the fries for consistency.
One of our favorite places when we are out and about. We are not really big one reading out but wr line going here every couple months. The fish is fresh and well prepared. And the atmosphere .. it's s floating little pinochle diner. You can't get much more charm.
Excellent food and lots of seating. Staff are easy to find and helpful. Outdoor seating mostly.
Always enjoy the food, the atmosphere, and the music playing on the walkway above you, for a pleasant summer evening.
Always love the food here
Had been going for a couple of years regularly. A bit pricey and food was good but has declined for some reason. Last two visits I got a headache after eating there and may have been minor food poisoning. Haven't returned since .
Great fish & chips. Very hard for seniors to go up and down the ramp, but there are public tables at the top of the ramp.
Location was nice, service was decent, fish and chips were medicore at best.
Good food and reasonable prices. A supper busy place
Really good fish and chips. Best I ever had.
Such a little gem ♥️ We had lunch June 29 2021 during the heat wave. Misters keeping us cool umbrellas for shade , sitting by the bay with incredible scenery. I am so glad our neighbours Kenny and Terry Jacobson suggested Trollers to us before we left Mayerthorpe Alberta. We had the halibut , fries , coleslaw and side salad !!!! I can hardly wait until my next trip to Nanaimo. I will be spreading the news to all my friends. Trollers is a must destination! P.S. our waitress was fantastic ♥️
We stop here every time we are in town. they are right on the docks and the atmosphere is nice. The fish and chips come out with a great crispy batter. Friendly staff and they move pretty quick.
My favorite fish & chips in Nanaimo! The 2 pieces of cod and fries Is a generous portion enough for my gf and I to share
Best fish & chips in Nanaimo
Amazing fish and chips right on the water. If you time it right, you may even get to hear some live music on the boardwalk!
The kids loved it, though it doesn't take a lot to make them happy.
Trollers seafood establishment was on the water. I typically don't eat deep fried foods. The fish and chips were excellent. Price waa fair.
Nice service.
Fish and chips are fresh and crispy. Their house fresh salad is a must try salad.
Fresh, Tasty and good size portions.
My favourite place in town for fish and chips! First time I had Salmon cooked in that way - it was fabulous. Recommended for any fish and chip lover. If the tide is low the ramp can be a bit steep, but you just need to hang on.
Great seafood food served as you sit on a floating sock. Rustic but tasty.
Great service, good food.
The halibut and chips maybe the best I've had. I've eaten a LOT of fish and cannot remember better. That said, my memory may not be the best, lol. Whatever the case, the food here is amazing. My wife had the fired clams and they were something special as well. The walk around the area before sitting is worth the trip, but the food will keep you coming back. Enjoy!
Fun spot right on the water. Good sized portions of fish, and fried to perfection! The tater sauce had too much horseradish in my opinion, and the Clam chowder needed salt and pepper. Overall we enjoyed the Cod & Halibut fish & chips!!
Okay place on the dock. Floating deck with picnic tables. All outside eating and window order service. They bring it to you when it's ready. Think closer to mall food court than restaurant. Food was okay, perhaps a bit pricy for what you got. But not bad. They do a good job of keeping it clean and tidy.
Delicious! Great service and friendly staff. Thanks!
Yum...expensive but worth it...only open may thru Oct 1
Good food Good Service! Wonderful Halibut :)
Chips are good but pricey for the amount you get.
Good fish and chips on the water.
Friendly environment, nice workers. My family was hesitant to go here at first, but then we talked to an old British woman who said, "I'm from Great Britain, and this place sells the best fish and chips I've ever had". That sold us! And boy, was she right. The fish and chips were to die for. They were fresh and tasted so good. Definitely a place I'd recommend to anyone wanting fish and chips! The fish and chips are authentic and the environment is great!
Just finished a great halibut fish and chip meal at Trollers in Nanaimo! Delicious! Great harbour-front seating.
Perfect fish and chips! Awesome location! Wicked staff!!!
Great food great staff beautiful location on the water
Great place to go for fish !!!!
I went there a few year's back! i'm a little late on this Review but everything was Fresh and amazing. 100% will go back if i ever visit Nanaimo again.
Halibut and chips soooooooo good will go again.
Love this place. We were visiting Nanaimo on our way back to Van and accidentally came across this place. Amazing fish and chips. I love the atmosphere being on the dock. I highly recommend it.
Great fish and chips
Sub standard fish & chips at an inflated price.
This dockside spot has amazing seafood! Their fried oysters and fish and chips are the best in town. They also offer delicious vegetarian options and healthier options, like grilled halibut or salmon and delightful salad.
Fast service. Decent prices. The fish batter recipe seems different from what it was a few years ago.
Worth going down to the docks!
Good service. Tasty food. They were also taking responsible social distancing steps.
Love this place. The fish is moist, batter is delicious, salad was fresh and bright.....but the fries could be better
It's a floating restaurant! Not only that, it also serves up a great fish and chips.
Cool location. Great food. Pretty good price. If I'm in Nanaimo again I'd dine here more.
The fresh halibut was super good. The cod wasn’t good at all. If you come here, spend the extra money a get the halibut
Awesome Fish and Chips, be sure to try the Salmon!!
Excellent fish and chips on the water. Really enjoyed our meal. Covid19 precautions are good.
I visit this place annually for their fresh fish and consistent product. I only go to places that serve halibut for fish and chips. Very disappointing to experience during this visit that they are serving "cod" claiming it to be halibut. Maybe they were out and not wanting to loose the sales (they were also out of calamari and oysters).Who knows. At first, I thought I was given the wrong dish by mistake. I informed the host I was not given Halibut. She quickly said she would get me new fish. It was still cod. I've eaten halibut most my life and I know it's dense, heavy, firm texture and flavor. This was soft, large flaked, mushy cod. I didn't feel right starting an argument and ate my cod.
Had halibut and crab cakes. Unbelievably great!
Quiet, Tasty and Waterside. Wonderful place to eat all it needs is to be a licensed facility cause a beer would have topped it off.
Best fish and chips Wonderful atmosphere
Great Fish and Chips very unique setting friendly staff????
Light and crispy batter on the fish
Absolutely delicious! I am someone who does not like seafood at all, but I could eat the fish here every day! Fresh, flaky, and flavorful and the boat you eat it on has a great ambience. We were there in August and my only picky point is that there are limited options for quantity. We were in a mixed group and while the 1 or 2 fillets with chips were perfect for some, we had several people who would rather have had three fillets and no fries and there wasn't any option to do something like that we could find. Overall though, five stars and a great and delicious experience.
Really great food , atmosphere and service
Had a pretty good albeit expensive fish and chips at Trollers a few weeks ago. The fish was well cooked, and fries were solid. The highlight of the meal was the accompanying tartare sauce, which was creamy and tangy simultaneously. The obvious bonus is the view of the sea whilst eating, and you definitely pay for the premium whilst dining.
Great food and atmosphere!
Had a great time! Good fish wow!
Great food very pricy..
This is a tasty spot to stop for fish & chips when you're in downtown Nanaimo. Everything is nice and fresh, well cooked, and super tasty. If only they had a liquor license.
Light flaky batter fish was amazing
Best fish and chip! A must try
C'mon people... I went to trollers today, looking forward to having fish and chips with some out of town family. I placed our order to go as we were going to eat at home. Waited 40 minutes (which I was ok with as it was a busy friday night and the staff were working quite hard) However after paying 60$ for 3 orders of fish and chips, and arriving home really hungry and stoked for the food... what do I find.... No coleslaw, no tartar sauce... not a drop... This isn't rocket science, these are sides served with fish and chips everywhere on earth, how do you manage this. So rather than going all the way back and having soggy cold fish and chips, I walked over to Pirate chips and got some there, sadly my food was still soggy and cold by this point, and it ruined the meal for all of us. Pay attention to the basics.
Some of the best service I had in a long time!!! Joyful experience and the food was quick and delicious and the views are great.
Soooo good. And a ok price. Best fish and oysters I have ever had from a restaurant. And right on the water
Great place for fish and chips. I recommend the crab cakes as well. Friendly staff
I love the One in Comox, batter is not thick,, fish is always fresh, and not filled with grease. The service is great, always a smile. My Favorite Place for fish ever!
Well, I read the comments that mainly say it's a bit pricey there but I though I give it a shot anyway, if the food is good I'm willing to pay more. Unfortunately the comments were totally right. I had 2 pc salmon and chips for 19$. The salmon was very dry like it was fried for way too long. The fries on the other side could have been in the fryer longer, because they were soggy and far away from crispy. There was also almost no seasoning at the fries. But to be fair, salt and pepper is provided on every tabel so that's good. The staff though was friendly and I really liked the patio on the water. It's just a nice location. Nevertheless, I would not recommend going there, I had way better fish and chips in pubs, and there you'll even get a pint on top of it for the same price
The grilled shrimp were good but the crab cakes were mostly breading
Such delicious food and a great atmosphere. So nice to go "out" to eat somewhere when we can't eat indoors.
Thought the seafood I tried was really fantastic. The seating and surrounding also made it a great place to eat and hang out. My only complaint is that they could do a bit better with the French fries, and the prices were just a bit more than I was expecting. Still a great experience and staff were fantastic both times I have been.
Typical tourist trap. The only ones being trolled here are the patrons. I can't complain about the food, because it was good. But it was really overpriced - - $65 for a fish and chips basket, two bowls of soup, and drinks. It's also counter service with shared tables that don't even face the water. The staff were friendly enough, but the cashier rang up our order incorrectly; we actually intended to order two baskets of fish and chips, but they only brought out one - - normally, I would have easily caught the error based on the cost, but I'm not used to $30 for this type of meal. Additionally, there are no free parking options available near the restaurant. It's not terribly expensive to park in the garage across the street, but there are other restaurants in the area with free parking and better value for the same quality of meal and service.
Great fish and chips here! Very cool variety, and sweet atmosphere for dining! Who doesn't like eating fish and chips on a dock? Delicious food, awesome service.
Good food and great to be on the water
Best fish and chip meals around! Sorry about the fire, but when they reopen, I will return. Sitting outside is great.
Love love love this place...best Halibut in town and a great view!
Great fish n chips in the coolest location! This is a little floating shop on the ocean beside all the fishing boats, the fish is Great, not too greasy and the staff are very friendly!
First visit: I am craving for fish and chips and we found this place in Nanaimo Marina, they're restaurant is floating on the marina which is great and nice, shaky but nice, the food are ok, the fries that we got on the first day was a bit burned but they offered to replace it and its finally ok. fish are crispy and hot which is good, sides like coleslaw would need a bit more flavor to the sauce, the cabage are crunchy, salads are great and the mushy peas was fantastic! ????They offered a complimentary $25 coupon for a second visit which was very nice.???? Second Visit: We oredered clam chowder, Fanny bay oyster burger and chips. We need to come back for the oyster as it was not available on our first visit, it was crunchy, the fries is not oily and the burger was great! ????, clam chowder was creamy and tasty. Verdict: This restaurant is a must to try, the staff are friendly and its location is fantastic. Parking is cheap, $1.50 for 2 hours, washroom is not available in the restaurant but they will give you a key to access the Marina employee washroom use only. Troller Fish & Chips is a must try restaurant when you visit Nanaimo, BC downtown Marina. ????????
Great light and flakey fish and chips. The french fries could have been better.
Food was excellent and fresh. Deep fried oysters were huge!!
Amazing view and great fish and chips! You have to go to this place to appreciate the whole package in person.
Clam cowder was gritty and bland.. chips were just ok but not the best fresh cut fries. The fish was good but the batter held alot of oil..
Wonderful service, amazing staff, euper friendly. Ran into an old friend there, location couldnt be better. And of course, the food is amazing.
Wonderful spot right on the water. Food was excellent as usual! One of my favorite spots for finch and chimps.
I tried to write to Trollers but no email address advertised. The fish is very very thin (mostly batter rather than fish) for over $30 for two. After paying >$35 for 2 orders of cod and pop, my wife asked for a 2nd tartar sauce in Comox and was asked for $1. She declined. What would it have cost Trollers to provide a small dixie cup of tartar sauce? We won't be back nor our friends who don't like being gouged either. Very poor customer relations. The Whitespot is far better value.
The food tasted amazing but there were a lot of people there so the food took a while to get prepared
Perfect atmosphere for fish and chips - pretty darn good too!
Stumbled across this place while making our way to the ferry. We ha time to kill. It serves up fantastic sea fare and fries. Glad we came across it.
Why 2 stars ? *Not a bad location -Poor service for take out *As a nice person I paid a gave a tip on a 41.00 for a 2person meal - No tartar sauce with my fish and chips And Why do they make me pay for a brown 6 ????inch hair in my water to go ????I don't understand... Please use hair nets
Nice location but the food is not tasty and expensive for the portion sizes and food quality. The chowder was liquid cream with potato and undercooked onions, no fish was detected. Shrimps were small.
This is a fantastic fish-and-chips restaurant right on the docks at Nanaimo Harbour. I got the battered oysters and chips. The oysters were from Fanny Bay and were fresh and delicious; the dipping sauce had zing and the coleslaw had crunch. I left fully satisfied and eager to try all the other things on the menu. I highly recommend Trollers for a date, a dinner, of just a snack.
Ungenerous, thin pieces of fish. Looks like a large piece but almost no fish inside. All you taste is the batter. Could be much better. Fries mediocre.
Great food, good vibe, very very friendly staff.
Love the Oyesters Crumb Fried and Fried Halibut ... Good Service and Superb Ambience
Best fish and chips for sure! But also try out the oyster burger!
Just what I wanted - yummy fish and chips and a patio on the water
Great fish n' chips, cool atmosphere.
Excellent service. Partner and I split a two piece of fish'N chips and than wen't back for a second order and they gave us an extra piece of fish which we greatly appreciated
Fish was tasty and the place itself was clean and organized. Price is a little higher as others mention but it's fish bought from fishing vessels on and around the island so it's fresh and worth the price for sure.
Fish portion size is good, fries taste good, pri e is fair comparable to others. Nothing outstanding though.
Excellent service and very reasonable prices. I went there yesterday with my daughter and when one of the cooks saw that I was given a small piece of fish, she gave me an extra complimentary one! Very thoughtful! And the fish is delicious; not greasy or heavy at all. The yam fries and chicken are also really good.
Great food and location! The crew were talking loud in the back in the kitchen hard to eat in peace with the family but all else was good!
Great food
Shabby seating, poor view and greasy undercooked seafood. Used to be good but needs serious upgrading in structure and food. Too bad because it is our waterfront!
A memorable experience with the smells and sounds on the docks of Nanaimo's amazing Harbourfront. Fresh fish, great service and good times at Trollers for lunch or dinner. Open May- September.
Authentic fresh fish and chips. Delicious and cooked to perfection.
Great place and even better food. Service was perfect. Kids loved to watch the boats and look for star fish
We ordered a two piece halibut n chips our fries came and were still hard, cold n barely fried. Asked for fresh ones they were also only heated, raw and oil soaked. Our fish batter was so oil soaked i ended up nauseated. For twenty five dollars per plate it was a disgusting mess not an enjoyable meal. We will never go back...
Great food
Fish and chips!!. Fish is battered perfectly; not too heavy and crisp.
Loved the food good services and wonderful place. I do recommend other people to go.
Amazing views to go with your food! Had the Halibut which was very fresh and cooked perfectly and it came with a generous amount fries. Something cool about this place is that it’s floating on the water! It’s a bit pricey but it’s worth it to try!
Fresh halibut fish and chip, best I've ever had. Friendly staff, good music.
Tasty, fresh food, decent portions, good price
Fantastic eating. Fresh fish and great customer service.
Awesome food. A bit pricey but totally worth it.
The place to visit for fresh fish & chips. Great tasting, quality food. Highly recommended!
When I want to bring a new friend somewhere fun and unique I bring them here. Big portions, full bellies and you never feel nasty after eating there. Just happy and memorable
My family and I were very impressed! Fish and chips were cooked perfectly and the tartar was delicious. Service was great. Absolutely will be back.
Great fish and chips!
Great experience. Delicious, fresh fish and chips and kind staff. Felt very welcome.
Simple and nice place. Prices is according to the quality and service very good. It’s fast food but we need to wait a little while since all are cook in the moment.
Fish and chips were great, staff was wonderful and the seal showed up for a visit.
Delicious and fun. This place is amazballz!!!!
Many different food options here. Right on the water - stunning views. Always friendly, efficient, great value, superb tasting food. Never had anything but an amazing experience here.
Food was okay prices ok service horrible. Good kids menu
The best fish and chips I have ever had. Nothing compares to sitting on their deck, swaying with the water while eating some absolutely delish fish. Very crispy, light and flaky. The staff was super friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs. Definitely will be going back again!!!
Great fish and chips with a view of the marina
If you love to taste deep fried, savory seafood whilst breathing in the fresh ocean air, and a keyboardist serenades you from some where on the boardwalk above - this is the joint for you. Friendly staff, good food.
It's a bit pricey too much select on the menu it was better when that was the original owner
They and pirates fish and chips got fanastic seafood there. Oh and not to scare but You guys better be carful.
Fish was very bland tasting but the fries were good! Love the little patio too!
My husband and i were on our honeymoon from Armstrong BC. We had a fabulous meal..i had oysters and chips, my husband had Halibut and chips. Absolutely FAB!!!
We googled best fish and chips in Nanaimo and it did not disappoint. It was the best fish and chips we have ever had. The calamari was great too! The waiting line is worth it! I’d suggest for the place to also sell alcohol, a cold beer would be nice with the meal.
good fish and chips and the best calamari i ever had
Best fish and chips in Nanaimo hands down.
Disappointing. Clam chowder was made mainly of large chunks of potatoes...
Professional Scam Artists! I ordered a massive meal to go - $100 worth and this was incredibly disappointing. Their "grilled spotted prawns" are SMALLER THAN THE SHRIMP IN A SUPERMARKET and they have the audacity to charge $19.75 for it. When you charge that much for 6 prawns you think they would be big. I didn't have time to take a photo cause we were on the way to the ferry, but as a someone who has been in the fishing business for 30+ years, I can't believe anyone would charge something like that. I don't know how you aren't embarrassed putting that type of food forward and charging that price. The heads were also taken off which have the most flavour. I'm from Vancouver so I know what spot prawns in this area look like and these people and how much they cost. This place is really in it to cheat tourists. Their clam chowder was also just potato soup with no clams. If you HAVE to order something at this place go for the fish/oyster with chips. Their crab cakes were also ridiculously small. I always tip on take out as well because I know what it's a struggle for the hospitality industry but DO NOT TIP these people on take out. They will take every advantage of you and do it with a smile.
The tartar sauce was rancid. The fries were old, tough and cold. The fish was ok. Found the fish to be tasteless and the batter comes out of oil that obviously is not changed over regularly. Definitely do not recommend this place. The only reason for the two stars is for the nice staff. I would be very interested to know where the owners are from.
I ???? this place! Cajun halibut ????...fresh peeled shrimp cocktail...crispy lingcod or salmon and delicious handcut ????and my dog is allowed!????????
Halibut and battered oysters were wonderful. It was packed which was a good sign. Not as wowed by the clam chowder though.
By far the best halibut and chips i ever had.
Awesome food out of the way of the busy streets situated on the docks behind port place theater
The fish and chips here are amazing! Just point and drool! Quite possibly the best on the island. Pretty sure the fish here is fresh, hand dipped. (Instead of frozen / fried). It makes a difference you can taste!
Excellent food good portions and friendly people
Almost always amazing. Easy to pick up. And the price isn't outrageous
Fabulous fresh halibut with fresh cut fries. The staff were very friendly. Perfect in the dock dining experience.
Honestly in the Top 3 for fish and chips I've had in Western Canada
Very poor fries cod ok but halibut very greasy
Expensive
Absolutely one of the best fish and chip places in Nanaimo. Good service
Best fish & chips in town. Friendly and very efficient service, and although it's an outside location, the staff manage to keep it very clean (I rarely go without seeing them changing the trash bags at least once, and their tables are always spotless). I find it's best to try and go at 'off' times - and I do mean 'try'! Due to the popularity of the place, you're guaranteed to find a lineup of people at lunch and dinner for both eating in and taking out, and you could end up having to wait for your food, but depending on what kind of day it is and how much activity is going on downtown, it can get busy any time. Absolutely worth it though, even when it's hopping, as long as you're willing to wait - I just make sure I have a book with me and, since they've got some comfy seats just outside the dining area to sit and wait for takeout, I read and relax in the sun while I wait! RE: the dining area, that's another issue to consider: it can be hard to find seating but then, there's not much they can do to expand in that location, and the occasional time I've been standing and looking a server has quickly approached me and helped me find a place. The location is pretty nifty in itself and just adds to the enjoyment of the food and the service - right down on the dock on the waterfront, so there's some very nice little shops to browse afterward (including treat/dessert options, though I know Trollers has a couple dessert options as well), and a nice walk past those shops to Maffeo Sutton park.
Great Service...happy staff!! Awesome food!
Tasty fish & chips. Casual dining. Right beside the sea wall.
Closed do to fire. Don't know when they will reopen.
Didnt try, saw that was there, i walked around , with friend Thst isnt possible . Maybe I walked atound for coffee .
This is such a great place people were awesome and food was fresh !
Really good fish and chips
Loved sitting right on the water and having some of the best fish and chips in Nanaimo!
Great meal: reasonably priced at $20 for two long cod and fries with a side of fresh coleslaw. Clean, with the option for take out or dine in but maybe call ahead with your order to pick up or to book a reservation. Friendly and efficient service and nicely done fish.
Was very tasty. Not too greasy either. Was an enjoyable meal. I had cod and partner had salmon. Very good meal
Tasty fish and chips for a reasonable price. Outdoor seating sometimes with the sun bearing down on you despite the covering.
To many rules to just place an order to go. I don't need to listen to you rattle off policies. You don't want my money fine. I will not recommend Trollers anymore. I have sent many people there now I won't
Great local place for fish and chips down by the water.
Not great. Food came out late and not the best quality.
Great food and beautiful location.
Great fish and chips!
The food was delicious I really did enjoy everything! The service was very effective and quickly done ✅ I suggest this place to fish lovers, there was Halibut, Salmon, Cod and delicious Calamari and shrimp ???? every time that I’ll be in Nanaimo I will continue going to this amazing floating restaurant!!!
Excellent fish and chips, every time- the best I've in all of this whole region!!!
Awesome place to have fish and chips
Food was ok, but wouldn't go back
My boyfriend and I had a good experience at Trollers! We both had the halibut and chips, which was delicious. The fish was flaky, and the breading was light and crispy. The tartar sauce was amazing, and had its own unique flavour. The only thing we both found odd was that no glasses of water were offered, but the staff were friendly nonetheless!
Ordered 1 piece of fish with chips on take out. Waited for a whole 35 minutes!! This is on a Monday afternoon at 2:30pm, not rush hour at all. There were 6 people working inside the kitchen. I thought to myself "...this has to be amazing for it to take this long..." It was ok. Both the fish and batter has little to no seasoning. Still I would have given 3 starts had it not been 35 min of waiting. The staff was friendly. Just not worth the long wait.
Keep going back!!! Never disappointed!!!! God I love the place!!@
Pretty much the best fish and chips on the island, in my opinion. I always get halibut and they serve thick portions of fish cooked perfectly. Been a year or so since I last made it up here but am planning to hit it again this summer.
Great tasting halibut and lingcod. Very friendly staff.
ITS GOOD!
Such a neat place on the water and great service!
I ordered the grilled Halibut and battered ling cod to go. The halibut was about the size of a credit card, about 1cm thick and over cooked. The only reason this isn't a one star review is because my battered ling cod was was okay (nothing special). My wife was very sad, she would have given 0 stars.
Menu is well done, everything you expect from a local fish and chips shop, fun place to visit with great food, not greasy, and generous portions, but expect to pay more than run of the mill places.
Excellent. Fish was lightly golden battered. Service was friendly and the manager was a gem. Fish is fresh and the restaurant is right on the dock!
Always amazing food and fresh seafood!
Great tasting fish and chips
Best fish and chips I've had in quite a while. Both the halibut and the salmon were excellent.
Gordon Gordon Gordon. Great service!
Great food great service best salmon and chips in town
Very incompetent service.
Wicked fish and chips, and friendly accommodating service, great dining experience
Great food ; great location along the water front. Ordered the fish and chips it was pretty good; on the pricey side.
Absolutely love this place! It's best to go shortly after open as they do sell out of some options as the day progresses.
Best fish and chips I've had since I moved back. Staff is amazing
I truely love Trollers Fish & Chips! Eating seafood on the water, with the smell of our beautiful ocean is a great way to enjoy any kind of seafood dish. The fish is fresh and local. I go a few times every year it opens back up for business. I feel the prices are pretty reasonable considering what you get - fresh, local, delicious seafood and other great items Trollers fish & chips offers.
While visiting family in Nanaimo and we visited Troller’s Fish and Chips for lunch. A great experience being outdoors on a floating deck. Service was quick and friendly and the menu had a surprisingly wide selection. The fish and chips were great and everyone enjoyed their meals. We recommend this floating restaurant for fish and chip lovers. Make sure you get a seat, very busy place. The menu has a selection of fish and treats. Good value for you dollar. Unique setting, as the Troller's is floating on the water. How much closer can you get on the water? You can't. Enjoy this place.
fish on the dock is a great experience
Good food
The cod and chips were fantastic. Very lightly battered. Homemade fries! Homemade everything. We were seated outside in the new dock tables in the sun with a beautiful umbrella. The staff were top notch. The lovely waitress was so personable and made sure we had and awesome experience. She kindly explained how the process would work, how to order etc. No guessing! Full on care regarding dealing with covid protocols. Very clean and sanitized between patrons. Only downfalls that it is not licensed.
We ordered 1 salmon and 2 haddock for $90. With $90 dollars you could buy a month's worth of groceries. We waited around 2 hours, like what hell, it doesn't take that long to cook fish. When we finally got our fish, it tasted like a normal fish and chips, nothing special at all. In fact, the next day, we went to a different fish and chips, they were also really busy, but we got our fish in 5 minutes. Horrible scam, I do not recommend.
Food is excellent. Somewhat expensive. Ordered 4 Fish and Chip takeout dinners which was over $80 CAD. Nice treat once in a while. Generous with condiments and as mentioned, food is very good. Covid precautions are also well thought out and implemented.
Excellent Food! Great location. Quite a bit of hussle/bussle. No high chairs????. If you want great fish and chips, this is the place to go. The batter is like tempura and the fries are hot and done properly!
Hands down the best fish and chips I have had in a long time! Had the ling cod, perfectly cooked and crispy, not soggy like a lot of places, the chips and coleslaw are excellent too. Will definitely be visiting again! :)
Best fish and chips I've had in town. Not much seating but lots of great waterfront for takeout picnics :)
Excellent experience, very lovely staff. Definitely a must do while youre here
Made fresh and on time! Absolutely delicious ????
Beautiful
Great food and service.. If visiting Nanaimo this is a must to visit and enjoy great fish and chips
Fabulous. Cooked fresh to order. The crab cakes were yummy. ????☺
A bit of a wait. About 30 minutes. Busy and a lot of takeout orders. Fish and Chips were fantastic, well worth the wait. Staff were great.
Amazing fish n chips here, glad I stopped in while I was on the island. I ordered the 2pc salmon meal and was so impressed I came back again while in town.
This is a piece of battered fried fish with french fries...its a very basic dish and the way it is prepared and presented is not at all worth the 5 star prices let alone the 30 minute wait for a table, then waiting to order, then waiting to eat... I am so much in shock about the experience that I am actually just sitting here laughing..like wow.
Good food
This is the best place to get fish and chips! Mmm, so tasty!! Fresh fish, perfectly battered and crispy, served with nice hot french fries. I highly recommend that you eat here!
Great fish but the chips aren't my favourite.. still very recommended!
The food is okay, but DO NOT order the grilled halibut - the portion size is outrageously small for $25, I got a piece of fish that is roughly 2 inches long and 1 inch wide and it is super thin, it just looked really small and also had no taste. I am very disappointed on the value of the product and would not recommend this place.
Great food and service was ok but could sweep up flooring to help keep Hornets from swarming underneath tables.
Best fish and chips in Nanaimo...fast, friendly and great location
Pretty good eats but was expensive.
Great fish and chips and even better crab cakes! Sauces are also great. Line up and waiting times can be long though. We went twice and waited 30minutes for our takeout, but well worth the wait.
We had halibut & chips for supper (takeout) and it was excellent! Two nice pieces of halibut lightly coated and deep fried to perfection. Fries were fresh and so good - crispy and cooked well also, not greasy. Coleslaw and tartar were great and they served good-sized portions.
Excellent. The best fish and chips in BC
I got food poisoning from eating at your Nanaimo establishment yesterday. I was up late vomiting and diahreah. I will never eat at your establishment again.
Great little place on the harbour.
Very tasty fish and chips!
Best fish and chips anywhere. Right on the wharf.
Best oyster burgers ever. Friendly and cheerful staff. Reasonably priced.
The 2 piece halibut and fries was not worth the money, so not a good value.. Their claim is not the best Fish n Chips but they claim the freshest, that maybe true, although I have had much better. Service was very slow, I would hate to visit them on a busy day. We did not eat at the establishment but took up to the waterfront park. The atmosphere of the water front was very nice. Will not recommend or visit them again.
My family went here last night. It was very mediocre at best. Which is too bad because we usually love our fish an chips
Great restaurant to get fish and chips! Nice service and great food
Food was great, but took 30 mins to arrive after paying and asked to take a seat... If food wasn't so slow it would have been a 4
I love Trollers and have been eating here for MANY YEARS! I love the atmosphere on the dock/ocean with the boats coming and going and people all around...it makes it an experience for all of the senses. The food is delicious and FRESH. I wish they had a few more non fish choices and that there was more seating. Highly recommend Trollers
Deep fried deliciousness!
What a unique place. Right on the wharf, floating on the ocean serving amazing food with amazing service. I ordered for takeout and it was quick despite the lineups and the food was amazing! Fresh fish, light batter and the fries were super tasty. A must when in Nanaimo.
Had there halibut and chips, calamari and grilled oysters. The halibut was outstanding! Possibly the best fried halibut I have ever had. Light, crispy batter that didn't overwhelm the star of the show. The other items were alright. I recommend this place, especially the halibut.
Love this place. Awesome service and great fresh food in a nice location. I go every time I'm in town.
Really fresh fish ! Price a bit high.
Stumbled on this place and wasn't disappointed. The batter on the fish was delicious!!
Excellent fish and chips and otters playing on dock near
Super busy, friendly staff, great food well worth the wait
The halibut is so soft! It melts in your mouth. The crab cakes were great too. Fresh fries. My French mum approved. Friendly staff. 10 out of 10!
Great tasting food and amazing location but it is pricey.
Fantastic food. We came right before closing and the staff was friendly and efficient. Excellent fish and chips.
We waited 20 mins to get a seat and when we did they gave us the #5 to order so we waited another 20 mins for the # 5 to order only to find out they didnt have oysters as it says on the menu they could have a sign to say no oysters. We wher bery disappointed and have eaten ther before but we prob.never will again
best fish and chips I've had!
Great service. Friendly and helpful staff. Character in the surroundings right on the water which is the best. Food was good but a little expensive.
Yummy Best fish and chips ever
Visited this place twice while on vacation! We went crabbing at the harbor and retreated to this place once for lunch and another day for dinner. At both times, the line was long but we were not disappointed as the food was consistently good!
I didn't realize the menu prices were in Canadian dollars and thought that it was overly expensive, but once converted into US dollars, the price is reasonable. Also, though I thought two pcs of fish would be too large, it would not have as I was still hungry after just one piece. However, it allowed me to sample other delicious cuisine in Nanaimo, BC
Great food and loving the new covid policies. It's nice to not have to fight for a table. The new system flows well. Great job guys!
Delicious. I recommend getting the giant pretzel as a starter to share.
What can I say about this place.... I can honestly say this is by far the best Fish & Chips I've ever had.. I will hop a Ferry and come over here just for another bite..
Amazing, super fresh Seafood!!
good food nice servers
Brought a friend from Trail where I come from there, we both really enjoyed the halibut and fries. The waiter and the cook were very friendly and it was close to closing time!!!
Great food, beautiful views !!!
Food and service is average.
Tasty food and perfect location in the harbour on a float. Seafood seems very fresh and prices are Ok.
Very fresh.
Good food small portions...other than that great place to dine and enjoy the ocean and boating community ????????????????????
Went there for the first time and the food was si delicious... Mmm
Trollers is the best! I usually order the halibut with chips and calamari! There is a bit of a wait on the food (and line up too) but thats because everything is cooked to order. Wait time is totally compensated by the amazing food.
The best fish and chips
Cod fish nuggets was good but the food came cold after over a hour wait and I paid extra for yam fries but got regular fries
Was there a month ago it was fantastic..went with daughter today and it was not so great..pity actually for $40 it kinda pisses you off when your fries are under cooked and your piece of fish is super tiny. Was very boring, small and no flavour. Well now we know..Pirates is way better and it's 3 blocks away.
Fish tasteless. Batter doughy inside. Chips tasted old & barely warm. Coleslaw bland. Staff handling food with bare hands after touching money and scratching head. Ketchip bottle empty on table and no salt & pepper. (Had to ask) Will never return - We thought it would be a great treat for our out of Province guest to eat right on the water. What a dissapointment.
My third time at Trollers and they are always awesome! It is a must-visit place for us during our family visits to the island! Their delicious Oyster Burger and Crab Cake are two of my favorite items on the menu. This time was for take out but food is still delicious!
Great food and location. Highly recommended!
Great Cod and Halibut fresh daily and kids menu was appealing as well! Would go back next time!
The food was awesome and the place was really busy but I only waiting 10 mins for my food...... no complaints
This year was different because of covid. Otherwise your food is really good and I hope by next year everything goes back to normal with no social dissancing Your fench fries and closlaw are good.
Great place a different experience. Nice friendly people good food.
Delicious with beautiful views right on the ocean
Good food and good service!
Well organized during the pandemic. Good foods and friendly service.
