This store has evolved over many years! They do fish fries for fundraisers ect. The fish is always good. It is a bit expensive however you wont get the quality from others that you get here. My favorite it the stuffed whitefish. I look forward to it every time i go home!

Locally caught whitefish, amazing. Other species, as well, if you're lucky. On the way to the cottage, you can at least get a freshly stuffed whitefish to pop into the oven for hungry guests. Nothing like local to make everyone happy....

Located on a side street in Wiarton, we stopped at this quaint fish market on the way to our camping trip on the Bruce Peninsula. The staff knew everything about the fish, including when and where they were caught.

Great freshly smoked fish ----------------------------------------- They do smoked salmon, trout, and whitefish. Warning: They tend to run out too. However, the day we were there, we came back in the afternoon when a second batch was ready. Reasonably priced too. Good for 9 days from the time it comes out of the smoker (but there's no chance my accomplice would ever let it sit around that long ... it's gone within 9 hours). If you don't know Wiarton, the big Howell's painted sign is located on the side of one of their downtown corner buildings on Highway 6. It can be deceiving - because they are not on the main drag (but rather only a few blocks away on a residential street). Basic directions: When you see the big Howell's sign, turn on a side street and head west (away from Georgian Bay). After a couple of blocks of heading west, turn right on a side street and keep driving (northward) until you reach Division St. Turn left on Division St. You'll find Howell's on the left. In addition to their big draw of smoked fish, they also sell fresh fish. My accomplice is dying to try their stuffed whitefish. Nice people too.

Modest little place just outside Wiarton that sells absolutely the BEST RAINBOW TROUT I've ever tasted IN MY LIFE! Available for purchase fresh caught almost daily from Lake Huron, or quick frozen. Seriously, Howell's rainbow trout is so spectacular that I often drove 40 km. to pick up fresh fish for barbecue parties. And went back for enough quick frozen trout (which is equally delicious) to drive 220 km. back to Toronto and pack into the freezer, to enjoy grilled for another few weeks. Many thanks to Andy Brown of Oliphant, who recommended this place.

Good quality fresh and smoked local fish. Decent prices. Yes they currently only allow 1 person in at a time (as they CLEARLY state on the sign on the door), but it is tiny inside. That is their max capacity with current COVID restrictions.
