Right now this firm receives a score of 4.3 over 5 and this score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average of ratings is very positive, and it's founded on a very large number of opinions, so we can think that the assessment is quite reliable. If many people have bothered to rate when they are pleased, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to place scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop belongs to the category of Pet store.
Good place to buy supplies for a Reef Tank and Corals on the days when they have sales, not a good store for sps however. Not any of the reef stores on dundas had bulkheads and i found them here for a very decent price! Have always gone a few times a year and will keep going. They need to pay the staff more to make them appreciate the job better.
We buy our fish and what we need for our tanks from there and always a fun place to take the kids to
nice store you can get everything for your aquarium or pet
Ive been going here since I was a kid for either aquarium or reptile items and they've always had what I've needed. Super happy they're still around and have an insane collection of fish and accessories
I typically go to the Scarborough Big Al's, but was in the area on black Friday so went in. I liked their assortment of driftwood and plants. The nice lady at cash greeted me when I came in. I did feel like I kinda got looked over by floor staff when I was there. The staff just didn't seem as attentive as I'm used too at the Scarborough location. Maybe It was an off day or I just got unlucky. I work in petshop retail so I won't hold it against them.
good service, good fish keeping practices, clean, healthy fish, they care, no unnecessary recomendations, accurate recommendations, if you need something they have it on stock, wonderful assortment of ineresting and unique assortment of fish in stock. tips to remember: buy the biggest aquarium you can afford, follow all nitrogen "cycle" practices, (you can never have too much Bennificial Bacteria,) always quarentine live stock and plants, (have hospital tank/emergency vessel options), always wash and rinse your hands well before you put them in the tank, smell fresh water change water to ensure your water conditioner removed chlorine and chloramines to protect both fish and cycled biofilm in tank. be patient. :) enjoy your fish!
This Pet Store is great. They are super friendly and offer great prices. I buy my crickets in bulk her for $30/1000 3/4" crickets. My usual supplier offers me them for $28, but because of the convenience of this location I don't mind spending the extra $2! Ill be back for more pet supplies!
One of the best places to buy aquarium fish at in Mississauga. The staff is very friendly and they have all types of fish there. Fresh water and Salter water fish. Look for the best fish and the fish should be active. Do not let the staff give you sick fish. Those will die when you get home. Some of the tanks do have lots dead fish and those should be removed faster to prevent any Healthy fish from getting sick too. Other than than this is the best place for all types of fish accessories. The aquuriums are at a good price. It takes some time to look for the staff sometimes. Some of the staff members don't even have their proper big Al's shirt. The 2 employees that helped me were wearing normal Clothes. I would suggest that they get 1 or 2 employees so the buyers can be helped in time when they have any questions.
The staff avoid helping anyone. Also very warm inside and uncomfortable. Overall very bad experience.
Best thing about Big Al's -great knowledgeable staff who are friendly and patient!!! Good selection for all your needs too
Good selection but prices are high.
Great service and selection. Praveen is always very helpful and has immense knowledge of the fish and other products. He is good with suggestions and recommendations.
If I ever come back to Mississauga, Ontario again. I would buy my fish there. They have a good selections of goldfish, and they have it in any size with various colours and types. They are healthy, always active and ich free. I usually buy my fish at specific location at Pet Smart back in my hometown (London, Ontario) at the Masonville area (north side of the city). Staffs are knowledgeable, and they do ask you how big is your fish tank and the specific type of fish your putting into before you can bring the fish home. They don’t sell the fish right away; when the already came out of the box from shipment due to stress and could have weaker inmune system that have diseases. I prefer going to the Big Al’s location in Mississauga, Ontario than the one in London, Ontario since it is smaller, limited selections and prefer going outside of the city to buy fish. Before anyone buys fish, check the tank of the fish you want if they don’t have any white spots (ich), a dead fish in there, red sores or anything that is not right. I will definitely come back here next time whenever I am in Mississauga, Ontario.
Every time i go to big al's, i love looking at the fish, but every time i do, their is always someone ( an employee) going to a tank and removing a dead fish or two. or even in other tanks (guppies for example) there are always like 5-10 dead ones in the tank. I hate seeing it. Or whenever i ask an employee something, they will give me false answers, for example, i was going to buy my first betta, and i was like what size of tank? and the reply i got was they can live in a little bowl just fine. I knew this wasn't the right answer, so i didn't buy one. or one time my betta died the day after i brought it back, and i brought it in, and apparently i brought the wrong receipt, so the guy at the store was like let me look on your account and see if you actually did buy it. " and he went to the register and looked on my account. he said i had purchased one betta like the one i brought, but they couldn't replace it because the receipt was the wrong one. what i don't get is why they cant replace it is they can see that I bought the betta through my account. It made me so mad. so not only do they not stick to the policy ( in my opinion) but their staff is knowledgeable, and the fish are sick. I remember when my friend and i went there, she bought 2 fish, and i bought 2 fish. we housed them in my tank over night, and when we woke up, her fish had died. They had an infection, and that infection spread to my fish, and than all my fish died, and i was so upset. I spent so much time cycling it, and i had to start over. I'm very disappointed with this place. they have such a great selection, but some things just need to change.
Great resources for reptiles and fish. Under staffed but I think that's due to covid regulations in place currently.
Good fast service. With decent price and good discount events.
The customer service there is just terrible. The manager (unsure of his name, to scared to ask) was extremely rude and unpolite to me the entire time. I tried my very best to keep a smile and be positive. I walked in happy and left hating my life...
Seems like everytime I go there is less and less feeder fish. 1 of the older guys who works in the aquarium area can be really rude. Most likely will be finding a new place to go
Prices are higher than their value. Large selection of fish, and some reptiles. Usually end up having to wait w while for something, either the checkout or staff to help
Great place to shop for your swimming friend. Staff is very friendly and knowable. Prices are good as well.
Only reason I gave 4 not 5 stars is because it's always so busy. I know it's not the stores fault, but perhaps having a few more employees scheduled during peak hrs might help. Other than that, I recently got back in the hobby and this was my first visit since I was a kid (30 years ago!). Amazing selection of fish & equipment, very helpful, knowledgeable & friendly staff.
The staff was second to none! So helpful and polite! I will be returning 100%
Huge variety of fish, plants, exotic creatures, gravel, food, definately the complete store for all your supplies. I have been shopping here for years.
They are always well stocked, staff is very helpful and well informed on fish care and info. They also have great selection of aquarium plants. Petsmart sold me fish that died in less than a day but all the fish I got from Big Al's are thriving. They take the time to ensure their fish are treated and healthy before selling.
Big Al's is a staple in the neighborhood. I've been going here since I was a kid. A little bit more than expensive than some of the smaller shops in the area. However, the livestock always looks happy and healthy. Also where else in the neighbourhood can you watch a shark being fed. ????????????
Coming to this location for years. Great facility to buy a diverse variety of freshwater and saltwater fishes. Prior to the pandemic, they have a shark feeding time for kids to watch. You can buy any size of aquariums, pumps and accessories here. Curbside pickup through 2 doors. You can call in and order, they will prepare and need a time for pickup if you are buying live stock.
Bought guppies, good thing I put them in a quarantine tank because they had Camallanus worms! Tried API general cure, not working. Unable to get lavamisole, flubendezole, fenbendezole here in Ontario. Will upload pics later.
My reasoning for the 2 star review is based solely on the saltwater aquarium aspect. From reading other reviews I assume they are on point with other things, however when it comes to marine fish/supplies/equipment they are sometimes double the price for the exact same products found at other stores.
I've been shopping here for years, great selection of both fresh and salt water fish as well as aquascaping materials and the associated gear needed to setup and maintain fish tanks.
Largest selection of fish I've ever seen. The aquarium with the shark is super cool and the store layout feels entertaining.
Very large, great selection of aquarium products and fish ( as well as reptiles!). Fish are relatively well kept, you'll find lots of death at certain times, however. Great prices, especially during their sales events.
Good prices and friendly staff. Busy, but they give you great attention on your turn. Thanks so much for helping with my koi!
Called with a question because I wanted to buy 2 C02 kits and medication for ick from this store. The customer service rep said they can't answer my question because the store is busy. I guess I'll just get the products on Amazon instead.
Good store for buying fish food and they are a big selection.
stopping by to write a review because I have always enjoyed coming to this store to get inspired for my next animal project - and they have most things you would ever need. I now bring my kids here, including my gleeful boy who is now 12 and reverts to a little one when he walks through the doors. It has been free entertainment and education for my kids for years, and the staff are helpful. During the weekend it can get very demanding on the staff, so during the week is a good time to get their ear if you need specific expertise. Lots of interesting creatures arrive there. What I would like to see in the pet trade in general is more local or captive bred creatures, and some that are caught in sensitive habitats should really be phased out completely, cool or not.
Best Big Al's, been to all of them. By far the best selection. ⁰
You can find variety of fish and reptiles here and especially all kinds of beautiful corals.
I don't give one stars...EXCEPT NOW! Few hours ago I walked into this place. I was looking to buy some Japanese kois and willing to spend some cash. They had some outside. No staff. Walked inside, ventured around. Looking at the price of bulbs as well (mine fell into the tank) no one was around to assist. Went to where they have the kois in the back in the drum. No one to assist. No one asked me anything. Nothing. WHAT THE ACTUAL @#$% is going on? Employees passed me without saying a word or making eye contact. Weird. I don't have a booger in my nose. I dont have a horn growing from my forehead. I left. Not even the cashier asked me if I was looking for anything in particular or anything. NOTHING. I did noticed something though, people who actually got help had was well you know...Lil boy or girl and mom and dad. Next time (not bloody likely) I will ask my 75 year old dad to join me and maybe I'll get some service. And if you wanna steal from the outside anyways, it should be a piece of cake. No one is around. I could have asked someone I guess, but it seemed like everyone was busy doing absolutly nothing.... I went to the place next door at Dragon Aquarium and spent about $200 on Koi. Better luck next time Big Al's
Pretty clean tanks and lots of livestock, more livestock than any of the other big Al's I have visited, the staff cares about the well being of the fish they sell you.
Big Al's has a great selection at good prices and the fish all seem to be very healthy and beautiful, got my first fish here and the staff was especially friendly.
I've driven past this place probably 100 times since I was a little kid and always wanted to check it out. Decided I wanted to get a Betta and figured I'd do best going to a place like this vs. a generic pet store. Definitely made the right choice. All the staff were very kind and helpful, everyone was willing to share tips and advice to get me started. Signed up for their membership, and I plan on using it!
During these time, they are implementing good Social Distancing inside. They limit number of people as well for good control. So they they are fully operating. Staff are very accommodating. Keep up the good work and keep smiling even at these tough times :)
Very helpful staff. Gives a brief teaching on how to take care of the fish you plan to buy.
Amazing selection and I had the best technical help, the employees know everything and if they don't they call for assistance to give you the best support on what you should buy. Will definitly return!
They have most aquarium products to shop in the area and prices are reasonable. Stuff are nice.
Purchased some cherry and violet shrimp for my fresh water tank. All shrimp were healthy and made for a unique addition. 2 thumbs up
Amazing collection of fish, corals, and other exotic animals Name it and they have it Reasonably priced Must see if you have an aquarium Helpful and knowledgeable staff Cheers....
Expensive. But they have a lot of fishes ( fresh and salt ), good collection of amphibians, reptiles and supplies. I enjoy visiting there. Soon I can afford more expensive stuff then this will be my main store.
This place is great and would be a great place for kids, it is not loud inside and the lights are not bright so the risk of a child becoming oversensored is very low. Cute fish and reptiles
This is the best big Al's location I've ever been to. Amazing selection of fish, and great staff
I've always loved visiting this store. The displays are great. It may well be the most exotic place in Mississauga.
Well its a aquarium land, you get each and everything for aquarium. I found it to be expensive, but its one stop shop for your aquarium hobbyist. You get stones, decor, aquariums, pumps and they do have a large selection of fish
Very well equipped store and professional staff
Most of the food options for fish are very over priced, as are the accessories (plants, gravel, water purifiers). You can get most of those things for a lot cheaper in places like Walmart. The fish however, are very healthy. In other pet stores, when we bring fish home they die of unknown causes. All the fish we have bought from here lead long lives. They have a good assortment of tanks as well. If you are looking for fish or reptiles, this is the place. If you're looking for accessories and food, I'd suggest looking elsewhere, otherwise you'll drop minimum 100 bucks when you could spend 2/3s of that elsewhere.
Good collection of aquatic animals
Great staff, great service, only problem is products are a little pricey
great! very fun!
We did a morning trip to big Al's kids loved it. Great staff friendly very welcoming
A superstore for aquatic pet supplies. A lot of exotic fish ????????????, turtles and reptiles????????. A fun place to visit????.
Biggest fish selection in GTA ! Tuesday's shark feeding show is awesome. Would visit again in future.
online booking and in store pickup was so fast and easy.
Went in to buy a tank today and was very impressed with the service and selection. The girl working in the reptile section was really helpful and helped me pick out the best tank for my gecko. Would definitely recommend stopping by.
Really wide variety of pet supplies at this place. Chances are if you need it they have it
My kids like this store. I wish they were more informative on best options to choose
Great selection, fast (if a bit impersonal) service. Quality fish vs the typical big-box pet store.
Great service in and out great supply and nice big frozen fresh food for my snake
This place is awesome! I always loving coming here to see all the tropical animals and saltwater fish! It's like a free visit to an underwater zoo! People bring their kids here all the time. They usually have a shark here that you can watch …
Great store for anything you need for your aquarium. Lots of fish selection and supplies. Friendly helpful staff. Collect points on a Big Al's VIP points card. Plenty of parking.
This is the Only aquarium my family shops at and for many years. Knowledgeable staff that seem to enjoy helping customers and a wide selection of aquatic creatures and reptiles as well. A little pricey but worth it for all they have to offer.
Staff is very helpful. There is a guy who works in the fish department (I believe his name is James) who has been very informative and helpful every time we've been in. And Candace at cash is wonderful and always polite. Our fish tank is wonderful thanks to the great selection, information and good health of the fish.
Amazing. This place is amazing for any aquatic life animals plants etc. Puts PetSmart to shame, like it's not even close. I will never go to PetSmart again. Big Al's for life!
Great place with a lot of great stuff for people who love their aquariums. Staff could be bit more present on the floor instead of having few people standing behind the counter waiting for you to come and pay. Have few experts on the floor helping people out will definitely get you more business and more money on the long run.
Always a good place to buy an assortment of aquatic animals, salt water and freshwater fish and a good selection of reptiles. Let's not forget ofcourse they also have have all the supply for your aquarium needs... The only reason I have for the 4 stars is because on my last visit just found too many dead fish floating in the aquariums (I get its a fact of life and what happens in the hobby) but it was esthetically pleasing. Otherwise, I love Big Al's!
It's clean and they have decent prices. They care about their fish and reptiles and won't sell to you if you're not prepared for them.
The fish store with the most ! Great for just an interesting visit or to stock up on your fish/reptile needs.
If you like reptiles and fishes, this is the place to go to. Great place with snagging prices, each worker is very knowledgeable when it comes to the pets (or they'll direct you to someone who is). Friendly people!! Always a large selection to choose from.
I love this store. I get all my fish here. Old people, such as myself, should bring their reading glasses. It's so dark in the fish zone, I can't read anything.
Great place to buy aquatic goods at reasonable price. Anything you need for your fish or your reptiles could be found here. Sometimes I go there just to look at the amazing salt water fish tanks
One of the nice place to get different kind of fishes. This place carries fishes of fresh water, salt water, etc. This place offers different type of turtles as well. As they are pet store they offers different type and size of fish tanks, many accessories and maintenance supply too. This place is good to buy fish food, various food options for reptiles like snake, gecko and others and food for cat, dogs and different types of birds. Big Al's have loyalty points program as well.
Nice collect of fresh and salt water, but bit pricy.
One of my fav pet stores to go. Staff is very helpful. And they always have a nice selection of fishes
Decent selection of fish and products, and most of the staff are pretty knowledgeable. The shark feeding is fun for kids, and if you go during quiet hours they may even let you hold a lizard or snake. I find them to be pricey though, so I usually only buy what's on sale.
Always find good looking and healthy fish here. Been visiting this shop for over 10 years now and never had complaints. Good work everyone.
Great variety and products. Animals seem comfier than other pet stores. Seems to need more staff
Love this place. They have a great 5-day live fish guarantee that is nearly unmatched in the industry. Also a fantastic selection of freshwater and saltwater fish and friendly staff. I would definitely and steongly recommend to friends and family.
I do not like writing bad reviews but I really feel the need to this time. This store has gone downhill. Big Time. I have been a long time shopper in previous years and gotten back into the hobby again. Prices have gone up quite a bit but that doesn't bother me - it's the attitude of the staff in the back. I was at the store a total of 3 times last week simply trying go a different direction with my tank (planted or reef) but every time I asked questions it felt like I was a burden to them. The white female individual in the back took every opportunity to walk away when I was talking to her, and was just arrogant! another male individual did the same and was clearly annoyed. I should not have to apologize for asking questions when dealing with live animals! Who are the managers of this place?! Luckily, I came back Sunday morning and spent some time at the store with other employees. I want to thank three employees: James - who showed expertise in reef and salt water, a younger/shorter oriental man who told me about plants and the indian man who showed me about american and african. Sorry I did not remember your names.
Very knowledgeable staff. There is something wrong with their inventory. I ended up with sick fish couple of times.
Great prices and better selections in both products and livestocks. Staff were very helpful
I have bough all my 50 gallon fish tank supplies at Big Al's in Mississauga! We work hard as a Junk Removal company in Mississauga and we were proud to be hired by Big Al's for a big clean-up job! Thank you Big Al's for being the best in the business!
Can't seem to figure out where all the positive feedback is coming from...this store has the most uneducated people when it comes to fish. I've overheard so much stupid advice from staff here! If you are new to the hobby please research things yourself. Do not even bother buying african cichlids here..support places like kangen + finatics...quality of fish are on another level and prices are much better! For ex. These guys have 2.5" pseudo crabros at $17 a piece... REALLY? As far as customer service...the kids may not know what they are talking about, but i must admit they really try and help out and will confidentally say i dunno and try to get a second opinion.. can totally respect this!. Dont go to the female manager, she will do anything and everything to get out of a conversation, no personality, and for a manager - not the most knowledgable. I don't really come here often but when I do I enjoy nerding out about cichlids with simon and the trini guy (only two dudes worth talking to here) There is an older gentlemen who is there who has been there forever, lots of knowledge but haven't seen him in months. If you need dry goods - avoid mark and find yousseff , he's the go to guy nowadays.
Big Al's Mississauga has almost anything you need if you interesred in aquariums. They have a very wide variety of tropical fishes and aquarium plants and other assorted creatures (turtles, lizards invertebrates) their employees are courteous and helpful. It's maybe the best aquarium store in Mississauga
A absolutley staple place to go if u need aquarium needs. Fair prices extremely knowledgeable staff. Plenty parking.
you find everything for your aquarium. I am very glad for the honesty on recommendations when buying new fishes. their advise is very professional. They fo not just sale staff, it is a place to go.
Good place. Not as amazing as the Scarborough location but SIGNIFICANTLY better than the broton store. Staff is better and friendlier as well.
Big Al's sells it's fish at high prices and have a terrible warranty policy. Out of all the staff, two of them were extremely friendly and helpful. The rest of them are terrible and do not possess a working knowledge of fish/give bad attitude. It always a hassle going into this place, I would recommend going to Dragon Aquarium or Aquatic Aquarium (which are right next door).
Marine Wonderland!! Wide varieties of species..Its always clean.i been to their other location, i liked this one.
Amazing selection of aquatic life, supplies, also reptiles and amphibians. Even had harder to find feed supplies like pin head crickets and flightless fruit flies.
Bought a nice 29G and Stand for less than expected and staffs are super friendly. Went with something basic and still growing.
Great selection, the staff is great when you call, the one staff lady who is at the door for curbside pickup is very rude. My son picked up glofish and one died before he go home and an other die by morning, he took them back and wanted to get replacement and she said I wouldn't you already killed 2, he explained what happened and she said that fine it's your money if you want to waste it.
One of the original location of the Big Al's chain. I've always enjoyed visiting this store because of the huge selection and competitive pricing. My biggest pet peeve about this location is the parking situation... To avoid the headache with parking we often for go this location and visit the Vaughan location.
Always has quality products and they're selection of fish is spectacular!
The staff and the supplies are always great. People complain about price, but I would gladly pay the price for the service I recieved from them. They actually care about the creatures and give great advice. They won't let you buy what you don't need. That's why I've been going there for years. Every store has great staff.
Fun place to go look at different fish, snakes, and frogs. They have a big tank with a shark and an eel. They apparently do feedings on Tuesdays. They have a variety of fish to purchase and knowledgeable staff however they're not fond of you choosing a specific fish from their tanks and prefer to bag your fish without you standing with them.
Helpful staff and nice aquarium displays and kits for sale but variety of fish not as large as 20 years ago. Finatics had a better variety of fish.
asked for 40 feeder fish. got barely 30. other than that, this place is a fantastic place to bring the kids for a peek at some incredible fish, snakes, lizards and monkeys. ok no monkeys...
Spent over $1700 easily in the last few months here. They don’t treat you any differently if you’re a solid regular customer or a random off the street. Been on a wait list for rummy nose tetras for months (which always seem to have ich) and bought gouramis and a pleco from here that were in the late stages of collumanus worms. We got a $6 credit back for the pleco.. I wouldn’t trust the livestock here anymore.
So Im giving a 5 star reveiw because they will have everything you need to have a pet fish, snake, gecko, chameleon etc. Also they have a wide variety of fish. Although, I believe they should have more snakes. The second reason why I am giving this place a 5 star reveiw is because a worker named "Terra" in the reptile section. She is very kind and paitent. She is very good at what she does and is extremely smart, knowledgeable and passionate about reptiles. She definitely deserves a promotion.
Good customer service and had lots of products...
We love this aquarium store! They have a huge variety of aquatic pets and everything you need to support them. They have some expert staff that really love these pets and ensure they're well cared for before you take them home. Definitely netter quality pets and products than any other pet store I've been to.
Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Large selection.
Nothing special, no greeting at the door. Everybody was busy there. The selection was ok, lots of dead goldfish which was not a pretty scene.
Everyone here is sooooo knowledgeable! A go to fish store for all your fish needs!
Store has a lot of employees but unless you approach someone they don't seem to be very interested. The place looks a little run down inside and prices are average imo. Full refresh would come to mind if I were to be asked what could be done to improve. That being said. They have a lot of inventory and a lot of fish for sale.
Good selection of fish. But prices are higher there than other locations like Kitchener.
Love this place, mostly helpful, knowledgeable staff. From A to Z they got everything for your tank. Some Big Al's got other pets and dog and cat stuff, this one is only fishes and reptiles.
Lots of choices to choose especially fish. Nice ambiance too.
We had a disaster this past weekend. We were away and our pond leaked. We lost16 fish, 8 of them large koi. Picked up 3 nice ones at Big Al's to start over. 10 gold fish and 1 small koi lived.
This is my favorite big aquarium store. There is always a good variety of freshwater fish to choice from, they often have shrimps. …
Great selection, customer service is fantastic.
Over priced but good products
Great place to buy your aquatic pets. I bought my first fish there and I’ve had it for 3 years now.
Fantastic service, lots of selection and always stocked inventory!
The employees are super knowledgeable about the animals and they make sure that when they leave the store they go to good homes! I buy all my fish, snails and frogs from them! Highly recommend
It was my first visit. The people who should help customers are all over the place. You do not need to search for them like almost all business now. The employees are very nice, helping and very professional. Good prices and I found all what I need.
Love this store, great selection, well organized, friendly and efficient staff. The Brampton store is closer for me, but this one is WAY better.
Nice place good selection of products at affordable prices many fish to choose from. As the staff goes only person nice enough to show u stuff would be Simon awsome gentle man thank you.
Recently, We had the chance to visit this location after many month because of the lockdown, but I had a very bad experience with one of the employee there, when we asked her to help, her attitude and response was totally unprofessional and rude! We were not sure if she was having a bad day or she didn’t like the colour of our skin! We did not say anything but when we left my wife had the same feeling that this employee was rude! We drove all the way from oakville, but our visit was ruined by the little tiny blonde girl and her bad attitude and zero customer service!
Friendly staff and clean store. The fish are a little small for the price, but that's post-covid fall out and I'm sure will even out eventually. Always a wide selection of fish.
The OG of aquarium shops in Mississauga. It's longevity at that location speaks to the quality of livestock and service. Great place for beginners and experts alike!
Wide selection of aquariums, fish both fresh water/pond, and salt water. Knowledgeable and attentive staff. (Lots of other pet supplies)
Bought a terrarium from here for my bf. They have the best prices on tanks out of any other pet store I’ve been to in Mississauga.
Best place for all pets needs i love the snake collection.
Good service you can find almost anything related to aquariums
Huge aquarium hobbiest shop with a vast selection of fish, shrimp, coral, plants. I've seen things in here I've never even heard of. Great shop with smart helpful staff.
Well stocked store
Good location with knowledgeable staff. They were very patient while dealing with us and had a good amount of difficult options between quality, price and sizes
Nice place if you are looking to buy a fish or reptile. Nice to visit with kids if your kids can control their hands.
Excellent service! Friendly and very knowledgeable.
The staff was excellent, they seemed very well equipped to answer any questions i had for my last purchase. Overall a great experience and look forward to returning!
There's a shark here!! Only 4 stars because this one's "Privately owned" so they ask for your points card.... but you can't get points in private owned ones.
Great selection, good prices, friendly and helpful staff
Excellent knowledge and very fair at helping with any returns or refunds if there are issues with the fish.
The store has a wide selection of tropical fishes that I like. I was amaze at how big the store is and how awesome the fishes are. If you are looking to build a biotope aquarium or just a regular hobby aquarium and looking for some specific fish for your themes, this is a great place to go to. They also have a wide selection of replacement parts, tools, light bulb, liquid fertilizers, etc...included hard-to-find brand like Aquatic Life. This is an aquarium fish superstore I would say. I came into the store with my pleasant surprise and excited what I can find. I came out off the store with 2 bags of Tetra for my amazon aquarium but with a disappointment toward their customer service. If you are lucky, you can get the back-end store staff to serve and answer your questions. They are generally very nice via my observation. However, I wasn't lucky enough and get a store staff is trying to teach me that I did not put down the tank number on the Livestock list. My apologies to this but lecturing me and refusing to help me is just absurd. My expectation rather than acting you are the boss of the customer, that store staff should be a little friendlier in customer service. I said I apologize as I wasn't aware as Big Al in my town seem to know where to go and never correct this mistakes for me. BUT HE IS STILL GOING ON by saying "Not everyone want to walk with you around the store. We need the exact tank number". Patiently and calmly answered from my end "I can lead you there together, they are right beside us". Next is the cashier, Wooow, I never see a listless fish that can match this cashier's listless. LOL, no interesting in whatsoever helping you, no smile, no asking you is that all I need for today (maybe she can sell more). Dealing with this cashier, make me run away from this store. Making me feel like going to a debt collector to pay my due. LOL!. Poor customer service, don't care due to their size and business, and low pay might contribute to their customer service's attitude . It doesn't help when their manager think of himself as Chef Ramsay or least trying to match his a**holeness. Not going back to this debt collectors store cuz I don't own you anything.
I called to inquire about the price of a red eared slider turtle and the young woman on the phone couldn't even tell me the price... she said well I dont want to give you false information... I was ready to pick one up so the turtle I do have has some company but your business just lost a sale because of her incompetence...
Very large store with anything you could ever need for your aquarium. Staff are very helpful.
Good variety of freshwater fish, driftwood variety and prices could be better. Food is priced a little high. Good selection of tanks and stands
While the aquarium is nice inside with a wide and beautiful selection of fish to choose from, the guy who helped us was good, But while waiting I did notice some bad customer service from the other employees. I would not recommend, unless you don't mind all your new fish dying within a few days. I got 9 fish (One snuck into the bag and he just gave it to us) from the weekly specials with my father. When we got home we noticed one of the fish was already dead, and not even a week passed and 3 more died. We've two fish in the tank previously that lived there for quite few months.
Amazing place for anyone looking to bring home an aquatic pet. Also an amazing place for enthusiasts. Friendly and knowledgeable people at the place can help and guide you well
My Daughter didn't want to leave
They have live coral! Huge selection of everything, the shark was having a bad day when i went but I'm told normally it's a lot happier
I really love this store except for the fact that the shark tank is too small. It just swims back and forth all day long. Please get a bigger tank.
This place is CRAZY. I've been to Big Al's in Newmarket, Barrie also but this is by far the best one of the three. No question. It reminds me of Reptillia in Vaughan. Straight up zoo!
Wanted to buy a dart frog and the girl didn’t want to do anything on top of that she was rude I went to the manager and she said she didn’t know anything about the frogs what sort of a business are you guys running it’s pathetic Train your staff especially the managers as product knowledge is important and not ignorance
Recomended for families with kids. It's such a relaxing time to revist the store and look at all the tropical fish and buy from time to time. Every kid should have a fish tank :)
If you're a fish lover it's your playground. Beautiful and wide selection of fish.
Very nice place wide assortments of supplies but the staff has the worst attitude most unfriendly and omg some especially this one bald guy at mississauga location gezzzz their attitude here is just a total turn off!!
Great place. A little tight inside with the amount of stuff and people shopping. Might consider a bigger store
You will be lucky to deal with some of the nicer staff there. They take little to no effort in explaining to the novice the true nuances of the necessities for each fish habitat/water conditions (E.G. That Electric Blue rams are incredibly sensitive fish and you have to be extremely careful with parameters and additives). Their signage is awful. Just tells you the species and the price. No care instructions. Buying fish from them is a gamble at best. My friends and I have all had countless fatalities within the 5 day (too short) return policy. (Petsmart has a 2 week full refund policy) When you bring back a dead fish the next day with your water they test your water, tell you its fine, but give you half your money back anyway and try to sell it off as 'some fish are just naturally weaker than others'. Yeah, I'm sure that would fly if 1 died out of 15. but I've had roughly half of my fish croak within a week. I've had platys, mollys, a female betta, electric rams, and most recently an angel fish give out on me. Much better prices can be found at smaller retailers such as Menagerie on Parliament St. or even the Asian places up the road on Kennedy. Yes they have a big selection, but they give you no peace of mind and almost treat you like an idiot if you don't come in with an arsenal of knowledge. They also house 50-200 fish in each display tank and proceed to tell you that you should not put more than 2-4 in a tank of blah-blah size. TL:DR; heavy casualty rates, poor return policy, misinformation, they are likely treating their water with anti-biotics to maintain the fish in store -> Compromised immune systems!
Excellent place for anyone who love fishes & interested in aquarium as a hobby.
Awesome store. Great knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great inventory. Diverse pets and not just fish.
Very rude people in the fish department. One of the staff members told me he's not taking my Fn fish on a trade when I simply asked a question. So much attitude for no reason. When I spoke to cash at the front about how rude they were, they simply told me they were managed by another manager than the equipment, not an apology. Never going back
Overpriced plants, fish and aquarium equipment. I got a crinum calamastratum plant for my aquarium for $26 + tax. Next week they reduced price of that plant to $11 +tax. What kind of pricing strategy is this? No return or refund policy. Why did I buy that plant?? Yes, good question.
One of the biggest aquarium store in Ontario. In-store you can buy aquarium showcases, multi reef, fish pods, coral, freshwater, saltwater fish, reptiles, a koi pond, shark tank, live plants. They provide service as Cleaning of outside and Interior of aquarium, replacement of any equipment, emergencies, water chemistry testing, clean glass covers, check food inventory, aquarium maintenance, change and clean chemical filtration, water changes, gravel vacuuming
Love spending time with kids in this store. They have large selection of fish. Store helpers are adequate, they are always in a hurry though. The cashier was terrible, not helpful, looked mad while receiving my money.
Daughter wanted a pet betta for her 6th birthday. Specifically, it had to be a “unicorn coloured” fish. Dan at Big Al’s provided me with the best unicorn fish ever. Months later, son is turning 4 years old and wants a blue fish. Again, Dan took the time to take photos of what he had in stock. Also, thoughtful to include betta tank, food and water conditioner. Curbside pickup was easy and efficient. Result - two happy kids and two happy fish! Thank you, Dan for going above and beyond.
Love this place for all of our fish needs! The staff is extremely helpful and they have a huge selection of beautiful fish and reptiles.
Large selection of marine and fresh water fish. They also have a limited selection of reptiles, tarantulas, and other random exotic pets... Located next to Mississauga's dragon city. Its definitely a destination for anyone who likes furless pets.
Sign up for their fish-e-sale mailing list so you know what is on sale each week. Lots of good deals. Friendly staff. Lots of parking, but on a weekend you might have to wait for another car to leave. Big tent sales in the spring and summer.
This store has been around for ages, hard to find parking due to it popularity with families bring in their kids to see the amazing selection of fish. Overall I have been going to this place for over 15 years and have never been disappointed.
Many items are overpriced, I could find the same brand fish food lower on Amazon (pleco food). Sometimes good deals on fish. It's just nice to go by sometimes, but it's okay.
Good selection of different fishes but not Betta fishes.
Been to both the Mississauga location as well as the Hamilton location and this one is much larger with a wider selection of fish. Staff were friendly and knowledgable, made for a nice trip!
Poor customer service. We went almost 45 minutes before closing. Staff was more interested in closing and finishing their work. Not worth a second visit.
Great help and amazing staff. Plan to get more reptiles from there, and set up a salt water tank
Love visiting this place, they got good stuff and staff are helpful and friendly.
We have been coming here for years as they really do know their stuff. We got our fishes and reptile pets here.. Prices are decent and the place has a lot of selection whichever you are looking for.. They have spiders, snakes, lizards, turtles, salt water and fresh water fishes of all shapes and sizes.. Their staff also know their thing.. Will keep coming back..
Staff is great and very helpful. Great selection of saltwater and fresh water livestock, corals and plants.
Love their combo in-person/online shopping approach. I ordered online and paid in person when I could check my order. They always have what need.
Great selection of reptiles and fish, helpful to staff and always has food for my lizard in stock.
Sometimes can't get a parking spot otherwise great service clean and knowledgeable staff
Great place to buy small pets and pet supplies. The staff here are very knowledgeable and friendly. They always ask to see if they can help you with anything. There is a huge selection of fish, fish food and supplies. Probably the best place to buy fish.
Great place for all aquarium needs. Better than PetSmart
Great selection on smaller fresh water fish. Limited on on 5-6" fresh water. Great staff and very knowledgeable.
The service is good. They also have good selection of aquarium tank, plants and fishes, as well as reptiles. However I wish they could expand their selection of shrimp and algae control fish/shrimp
Amazing , friendly staff
Ordered online, fish, n did curbside pickup.. Their system in place is great.. 2 cashiers setup just inside the door.. Pritected w barriers between them.. Easy breezy.. I would suggest you call the store if you have something specific in mind that you want
The go-to place for your aquatic needs. Wide selection of fishes, crustaceans, plants, and aquarium supplies. Has an impressive live shark tank on display. I love going there just to take a look at some of the fishes they have
It's okay it's not bad but is good customer service Scarborough location has more options
The shark is no longer there or the eel so the big tank is kinda sad. Betta prices are crazy at $49.99 Not very Manny feeder fish available.
Pretty nice store. Definitely a bit messy and the reptile selection (meaning supplies) was a little bit of a letdown. Went in for a few items and only left with one. But they had silk worms and my local store doesn't have them. Helpful staff, my local store isn't as helpful. Couldn't use points at this store unfortunately. Great fish selection. Very busy place. Will stop in again! Thanks
Staff very helpful. The place is very wet on the floor and slippery. Prices have gone up for the fishes. Worth buying only when on sale.
Nice place, nice fish, good prices. Find another great aquarium I dare you.
Amazing pet shop with extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have a mini Aqua Center here, a great variety of reptiles and all sorts of food under the sun. My son wanted a bearded dragon, we were little skeptical, but Rudy helped us out and spent nearly an hour training us how to manage it. We were sold!!! Must visit, even if you don't have to buy a pet. Below is 'Sheroo'!
If you know Jake at BigAls, you know you are in good hands. He takes his time to explain the pros and cons of whatever you are interested in buying. He is a very humble, down to earth human being. Out of all the employees that work there, I always prefer to call to see if Jake is working; before I go in. The reason why I am writing so nice about him is because I had a new found passion for reef aquariums and he helped me get the best items they had in their store and also recommended me to wait on some certain products to get a good deal. He also got me my protein skimmer that was on hold for more than a month due to some delay on their shipment. He just called in a different Bigals store and got me my protein skimmer within 2 days. Keep in mind that he is always busy and works only on some certain days, so thats why it took me so long to get a hold of him. I also want to add that I was having trouble setting up my protein skimmer as it was not working properly for 2 weeks and when I went to the store, unfortunately Jake was not working that day so some other employee tested out my protein skimmer and just gave it back to me with no real advice; saying that it was working fine. I had to do my own research and go through all the troubles myself to figure out the overflowing and micro bubbles problem. Other than that as you all know this store is beautiful. Oh I would also like to mention how Jake helped me save my tangs from ich problem. Again, I am new to this hobby and learning something new every day. I spent close to $200 going to animal clinic and getting formalin medicine to treat my fishes from this nasty ich problem. My fishes were dying due to the harshness of that medicine. Lost 8 clownfishes and blue tang because of this. One day I just walked in the store and I was lucky to find him in the store. I told him about what happened to my fishes due to that ich disease and he quickly recommended me the garlic juice bottle that they sell at their store. He asked me to feed them foods soaked in this garlic and they should be fine. One week later I was very happy to see that all the ich has been gone from my foxface fish and sailfin tang. It has been almost 5 weeks now since then and I haven’t had any problems with my fishes ever since. They also have instagram and youtube channel. Make sure to follow and subscribe to their channel. On youtube they have very informative content. To everyone thats reading this and looking to start a new hobby of freshwater or saltwater fish aquarium, make sure to get in contact with Jake. Thank you so much for helping me.
Best place to go for fish. Staff is knowledgeable and kind.
Awesome place. Friendly staff. Love the variety of fish and related products.
This is my go-to place for fish and aquarium supplies! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and have helped me a lot as a beginner.
I love Big Al's aquarium service, I have so many good memories of this place from years ago, And recently thought about getting back into fish keeping, If not now in 3 years when I retire, I want something simple but beautiful, with live plants and fish, I still don't know if it will be big or small But bigger is less time consuming, in water, changes, Staying hopeful.. But thanks for the memories, Big Al's ????
Some people claim the Scarborough location is the best Big Al's. I find the Scarborough location has the most knowledgeable staff but Mississauga is #1 in stock at least where saltwater is concerned.
Great store, big and organize. Great varieties of fish. Exceptemployee are not friendly at all. Didnt even say hi to cuatomer or acknowledge customer. Most doing work but more busy chit-chatting with another employee. I was planning to buy fish tank for my daughter and have many questions but none of the employee were available to help me. They saw me loat and need help but again they just to busy chit-chatting with another employee. I left unsatisfied. Went to pet smart which employee much more friendly and more available to customer and buy my fish and fish tank there. Got a great discount too. Never come to this big als location, you will be very disappointed. Very poor management, need a lot of improvement and better customer service.
To the people saying diseased fish and problems with the livestock I say learn how to acclimate your new fish to your tank and know what you're buying. I have NEVER had a problem with any of the livestock coming from Big Als. Depending on the fish purchased I'll either use the normal drop the bag in and wait method or for the less hardy fish I use the drip acclimate method. If they are alive in the bag with no disease it is on YOU to ensure they survive YOU putting them in the tank and that they will be compatible with what you already have, not the store. As for customer service Ive always been treated with respect. I also dont walk in off the street like some self important jerk. I'm more than happy to grab my number and wait for someone to come available to answer my questions. And they always do. I cant say everyone there is the same type of employee, I rarely go into the fluffy and feathered pet section, nor do I ask many questions in the dry goods section these days but the fish side do for the most part know what they are talking about.
It's like the sport Chek of aquarium and fish supplies. Not a bad selection, pretty good for the beginner or to get started. Lots of general stuff. One of the better big Al's. 4 stars because there are better places nearby for more specialized live stock and dry goods.
Always a pleasure going to this branch of Big Al's! Great selection of corals, seahorses, marine fish and live brine shrimp for a special treat to your salty friends! Especially love the chance to get some macroalgae from this branch. So far have seen many types of calupera and nice unknown red macro algae come through! Excellent fish choices and speedy service even during their busy times. Whenever we are in Mississauga we drop by just to see what's in store!
Good prices , far selection of fish , staff where good although not able to answer all questions about products they offer
absolutely fabulous service. I always love coming here, well worth the drive from downtown Toronto!!
This location is the Big Als I usually visit and if you want excellent service in the fish room ask for Praveen. I find myself visiting the store when he is there. He is always helpful and happy to help. If you want great service and knowledge for dry goods talk to Jake, Brian or Mark. They have helped me setup my large tank without any major issues and if there were any they rectified them right away. Big Als has a huge selection of dry goods and if you ever need anything that is not in store they can usually order it from the warehouse. I usually do not buy my dry goods from them because I find them expensive and you can get much better pricing with other online vendors. The price for goods on the Big als American site is noticeably different and find them having such great sales frequently. I find that Big Als Canada can do better with sales for dry goods. If the hobby was more affordable there would be much more hobbyist in the hobby. A Canadian company not passing down the discounts to us but keeping the deals in the States? Thanks to the individuals above it is always a pleasure visiting the store and talking to you guys.
There is such nice collection of fishes and food for fishes and other accessories. Their service is good
Maybe not the cheapest but friendly and helpful justify coming to the store, I love it.
They have a large selection but I found the staff there generally annoyed if you ask them any questions regarding the fish. Wish my four year old had a better first fish buying experience.
Staf don't know anything, fishes are in poor condition and livestock is soo expensive. They sell baby cleanrr shrimps for 25$ although if you go to dragon aquarium which is next to it you can find it for 20$. They have the most expensive livestock. Hermit crabs are 4 for 10$ however I bought 10 crabs for 10$ from aquatic kingdom. This store is bulls... I nerve buy livestock from there and never trust the stuff there. You better search online forums before u go there and ask
One of the best place to get ur aquarium needs.. good collection of fish to collect.
Very helpful staff had great selection last tome i was there
Buyers Beware : 75 Gallon AQUEON Fish Tank Sold without a Cover. I'm a Newbie, fish Hobbyist and went to Big Als Fish superstore in Mississauga. The young Boys at the store sold me a 75 Gallon Fish Tank with the stand, filter etc. 5 months later when my fish started to jump out of the tank I went to the store to buy a cover .. When the sales rep who I discussing about the tank cover mentioned that you should have got a cover with the fish tank. When I spoke to manager and mentioned that I was not given a tank cover and was unaware.. he said he cannot do anything in very nonchalant manner. I will not shop at this store ever again.
Excellent service! Awesome Fish.
I've gone to this location for the last decade at least. I've always been satisfied by their selection and prices of all products and live plants and animals. The entire staff is also very friendly and willing to help. I've personally purchased some of everything from this location although now, I primarily visit for reptile related items. Rudy is the department manager and he definitely knows his stuff and is always helpful. Whether you're a novice just wanting to check things out or and expert with years of experience, this is a great place to get what you're looking for.
This place rocks. Staff are friendly, amazing fish, they literally have anything you might need from salt water tanks to sea horses and koi.
Fantastic selection of everything. In particular I like their freshwater plants and saltwater corals. Do some comparison shopping before you go, though, because some of their items are priced very high.
The shark in the aquarium are amazing well kept. There must be a lot works and effort to maintain a huge aquarium in a pet shop. Highly recommend to go visit this famous aquarium superstore.
Friendly staff and the animals are well taken care of.
One of the Best store ever!!!! So amazing even you can bring your Kids for see like in Maryland so many interesting creatures you can see there I loved and my kids . Prices affordable , loot of choice of tips of aquarium terrariums fishes snakes lizards and so on . Really recommend this store!
Used to love this place but their prices for fish keep getting higher and selection isn't as good as it used to be. There's a couple guys who work there who probably shouldn't because their customer service skills suck and they're really rude
Everything you need for your home aquarium can be found here. Helpful staff. Feedings on Tuesdays.
1st time here. Huge selection of fish, reptiles and products. Really cool shark swimming around in giant tank. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Will be back for sure!
Not really impressed by their customer service. They let us in 15 mins before closing time and pushing us to finish our koi buy asap. Didn't answer any questions other than buy it or leave it. I found this place really expensive compared to other aquarium close by.
I've been a customer for 10 years. They're a great store. I see that all the bad reviews are low IQ or entitled people who don't have manners, don't quarantine fish, and are not proactive fish keepers. Can't wait until my next visit!
Came to take advantage of family day sale ($25 off for purchase over hundred). Had to work in Caledon today and rushed, but got in front of the door at 6.01pm. As people were leaving, some millennial barred the door and wouldn't let me in. No ammount of pleading, explaining that I already know what I want to buy, which is beside register anyways, that I could have already made purchase for the time he was denying me extrance, that I see that the till was open cause there were still people leaving with items. I would understand it we were talking about hordes trying to get in. Or if I was later. But come on.... Some leeway would have been nice considering... Shame... This is how you loose customer forever.
Mississauga Big Al has great variety of fish available compare to other location and the stuffs are very knowledgeable
I am, literally, NEVER BUYING FISH FROM BIG AL'S AGAIN. AND LET ME TELL YOU WHY. 9 times out of 10, they die. Generally, a day after the so-called warranty is gone. It's happened to me at least 3 times. And let me tell you why. Big Al's tanks SHARE THE SAME WATER. ALL of the tanks have water that circulated through ALL of the tanks. So if there's one sick tank, it VERY easily spreads to other tanks. Today, I lost 1 of the new fish bought Monday night. UNFORTUNATELY, I ALSO lost FOUR OF THE fish that have been in the tank for 4 to 6 MONTHS. Including a betta. $40 plus dollars... Gone NEVER AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN. I'll buy aquarium starter kits from them, filters, heaters from Amazon, and fish? FINATICS. Which is where I've been buying my fish since most of the big Al's fish die.
I got a betta fish here. They were nice enough to give me a few strips to test water so as not to kill my fish. Really enjoy going to this place.
At first I wasn't sure about this place.... Something seemed fishy. Now I know, the fish in this place are off the hook.
I have gone to this location a couple of times now because they seem to have decent betta fish, and I am a betta hobbyist. The customer service here is ABYSMAL at best. When you walk in, there is no greeting. When you are looking at fish or plants, no one offers to help. When you go to ask someone for help, they look at you as if you are the biggest inconvenience and treat you as such. I have heard employees numerous times talking poorly about customers that they have just helped. Asked one girl if they had a particular live plant in stock, and she looked at me and said probably and continued on. There was no offer to show me where they were, or to get me any. These people treat you as if you are stupid, and a waste of their time. I have been here a couple of times now, and my experience has been the same every time. Do yourself a favour and stop wasting their time by not wasting yours and avoid this location. Hamilton or Kitchener is much better and worth the drive!
Its good before but recently they dont have lots of selection of colorful cichlids, only few came and one time i bought a 2-sick fish.i thought its pregnant but when i bring it home its not eating i realized both of this 2fish are bloated,;( sad coz i cant help to revived them though i medicate the fish.,when i return the fish only half of the prize they will give it back so its really kind of disappointing:/i hope they dont sale sick fish again...
Great store, love coming in to look at all the fish and reptiles, it's basically a free aquarium, would def reccommend if you find yourself bored in the area one afternoon. I have to try to make it to one of the shark feedings sometime! (on Tuesday evenings)
Great and knowledgeable staff. Plenty of fishes, plants and aquariums to select from for beginners to avid enthusiasts. There's also a reptile section for those who loves scaly friends that prefer not to be under water.
I like Big Al's Missisauga Good selection. Prices are usually ok and a good selection of dry goods, chemicals and food Fish room is generally organized and constantly have new stock arriving. I've bought many of my current fishes from BA's and I rarely have an issue related to health You get what you expect at BA's and I appreciate that reliability
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. My go to store fo aquarium needs. Thanks for your good service
Great aquarium store with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Alec was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would absolutely recommend this place
I had fun going there
EDITED, 4 Jan 2020: Have always loved this place (as per previous review from a year or two ago). I don't know what happened but today's experience was a disaster: Spoke to 5 different employees about an aquarium; all of them gave different answers about price and availability - and that was only the beginning of the problems. Honestly I felt like they'd all gone out back and smoked a couple of joints 5 minutes before we came. Absolutely not recommended any more. PREVIOUS REVIEW Love this place - my 4-year-old and I call it 'Big Al's Fisheteria', because even when we just go in for a couple of neon tetras, we always stay for 30-45 minutes. The back area, with the shark tank and all the fish tanks in dark lighting, is basically like a low-end Ripley's Aquarium. I find the staff to be knowledgeable, helpful, and quite patient even with novice aquarium keepers (they were quite tolerant of my long rant about the ridiculousness of ghost shrimp, for example). They never rush you out and seem happy for kids to spend ages looking in all the tanks. If you're thinking of getting fish, don't bother with PetSmart - just go to Big Al's.
Best store in gta after the west end big als looks wise. Staff tho the older staff seem miserable and hate everyone and might have mental disorders.
Ok, don't always have everything in stock. I have to try to buy algae remover for over 3 weeks, this is a simple and regular product. Got it elsewhere.
Havent been in a while but staff is always helpful and selection is amazing. Livestock is first come first serve but I've never been told sorry sold out
Extremely helpful. Best experts I've encountered so far. I had to literally walk out of the Brampton location because the manager seemed uninterested in assisting us and couldn't tell the difference between a snail and a copepod. And there was no one at the front counter to check us out for about 3 minutes. I highly recommend the drive to Mississauga Big Al's.
great place to get reptile and fish supplies. good service, very helpful. they also have a rewards program.
It's great, all the fish there are great quality and there is so much to choose from. The staff are nice and they tell you all about the fish that you want and if its compatible with your fish in your tank.
beautiful place, staff are taking great care to maintain covid restrictions. thank you for keeping us safe!
Pros: Love the staff that work in the reptile department, super friendly and humble. Always feels like I'm visiting old friends because they remember my usual order by memory which is fantastic! Big shout out to all of the staff at this location for all their hard work especially during the covid lockdown! Thank you! Cons: My only concern is that the hours of operation aren't back to the normal pre-quarantine time slots. I've spoken to many people that go here and they too have agreed that it's getting super hard to find the time now to come in during our busy work schedules, especially since we are now in phase 3. Strange that they're still running on the covid-lockdown hours when majority of businesses are operating under normal hours again in the GTA. Just a suggestion but I think it's officially time to go back to regular hours of operation + it would REALLY help a lot of their longtime customers too...that or maybe have a pickup only option after closing at 6pm so their customers can still grab food for their reptiles...most of us are stuck at work during their current hours and have resorted to visiting Petsmart etc, so they're losing business to the bigger companies that are running regular hours again. Please Big Al's, we enjoy giving your store the business and most of us loyal customers (I've been a customer for over 15yrs) would like to continue to do so but it's becoming increasingly difficult to come in during weekdays. Please consider an alternative for your customers who have busy schedules so we can keep our pets (aka family members) happy. Thanks for your time and consideration!
Very good service. But do not go on a weekend because a five minute wait to be helped could turn into a half an hour. I thought all would be ok last month and went to pick up some fish on the weekend....I should have known better....At about 8pm on any day during the week is just great!
Been buying fish and equipment from here for years. Out of all the pet stores in Mississauga, this has been the most professional, clean, and organized I've been to.
Best selection I've seen in a fish store, knowledgeable staff, just wish the Oakville store was still open.
Super clean and organized store, They carry a large variety of Tropical fish and seem to have all of the bells and whistles needed for all aquarium hobbyist’s. The Staff at this location is great and will help you with any questions and concerns you have about the hobby. While your there check out there massive shark tank!
Amazing variety in aquatic life didn't get anything here but it was amazing to look at all the fish
Excellent selection of happy & healthy fish! The sales associates are very helpful and friendly. The only downfall is that the aquarium accessories are overpriced compared to other pet/fish stores. ????????????????????????????????????????
Great selection of fish. Great service. Definitely call in before you go to confirm as some dishes are quarantined prior to selling (illness or new fish)
I honestly found this place really nice.A very nice selection of stuff, nice staff and great prices. they have a fun shark feeding every Tuesday 7 pm I personally found that interesting.
Great big als storefront, had a ton of marine selection of livestock Aswell as freshwater and reptile. The staff were all very friendly and able to help with any questions or concerns. Even someone like me from the east end, would find it worth while to check out! Great work and keep it up!
Staff is very educated. Huge selection of fish and plants and supplies. Fairly priced.
very good staff, saltwater fish quality is always different from shipment to shipment, is best you do your research before you buy, over all its a great place
Been here a few times in my younger years and it was much better then than now. I understand this is a big location with alot of variety but the folks in the fish area are rude. It was hard to even get a chance to talk to someone there and when we did ask for help, the guy made us feel like we were harassing him. We went back twice after that to give them the benefit of the doubt and the other two guys were just as bad. Rude, and didnt want to spend time with us for a few questions. I will be going to another big als location and seeing if they can get the stingray I wanted.
Dark environment. Not in the 70's any more guys. Prefer better client environment that takes advantage of the beautiful fish. Only reason I go is for variety of available gish. Prices are no better than Petsmart or other. Somebody (owner) should invest in improving customer experience and not continue using shops as case cows. Very vulnerable to being easily surpassed should competition arrive that is customer centric.
My friend goes here for her crickets - the staff are helpful and there is a decent points card.
There are bad big als and there are good ones. This one has always been one if the best. Every fish I have bought from them has been healthy and disease free. Its also brings warm memories towards my childhood watching the old nurse shark feed back in the days.
Great place for the amateur or experience fish and water creature lovers. They have very knowledge staff that are always available and eager to provide you with valuable information to help you decide what is the best fish and equipment to properly care for these animals. You got questions, they have answers. Can't go wrong in this place
The store has lot of options and a wide range of products related to aquariums and reptile pets. Not much for beginners though. Most of the products are very pricey. May be not for beginners and is more for specialized pet lovers maybe. Not sure
Best place ti buy fish, accessories for aquariums. best selection Nd top quality. negative is no return policy.
Always a wide variety of common and unusual critters here.. Never had an issue with health of anything I've bought. Fish room staff could be better educated. Having worked in an aquarium store before, we always made sure to ask questions.. how long has the tank been established, what fish are in there now, etc.. just to make sure we were selling the right fish for the right tank. I've noticed that they DO NOT do this at Big Al's. The little sticker that says 'community fish' is not enough.. more questions should be posed to potential buyers in order to ensure happy fish and happy humans. Also, most of the part timers have no knowledge of species. They read the sticker and that's it.. Over all a great place for fish and supplies.. Their boxing day sales are busy but well worth the wait for the prices. All tanks seem well maintained and in good shape. Quarantined tanks are clearly marked . I've noticed that their fish are generally underfed, which I know is done to maintain water clarity, but skinny underfed fish can be stressed out fish. Have to agree with other posters about the cashier.. sorry.,. hate to call anyone out individually but she just does not care . No smile. No thank you. nothing. Honey if you hate your job so much find a different one.. It's hard to get a word out of her. Does not leave a customer feeling appreciated ..
This place always finds it way to get unique corals and marine fish. The manager is truly an amazing person, super helpful and caring for his costumers. I now have gotten 4 different corals from this Big Al’s and I only lost one so far. I also got 5 different fishes, from purple tang to gobies. I trust these guys when it comes to my reef tank. They are expensive but you will get healthy animals. Next time if your looking for new addition, go check this place out!
Love here! They give my son free toys! Friendly staff and a huge Variety of fish.
Great selection of aquatic pets and knowledgeable staff. Always go there for my selections and free browsing
Tanks look well maintained, employees are very helpful and friendly. Occasionally some livestock isn't labeled correctly but for the most part it's accurate.
Nice place to buy fish. We go from all the way from Brampton to this place as its sells a variety of fishes, prices are better than its competitors n even other Big Al branches, staff is knowlegable and helpful etc
I’ve spent several thousands on hard-goods from this location, but I refuse to ever buy livestock here again. I purchased a blood parrot only to have it die two days later because the girl grabbed it out of the tank with her hands and essentially threw it into the bag. A two-hour acclimation process couldn’t even save this fish from the amount of shock it endured.
One of the best fishstores! Worth just visiting to look around. Repitles too
Had a fantastic experience at this location. Pro: Great selection Fair prices Awesome lighting Con: Super busy (not really anyone's fault) Parking was hell
Ryan in the fish room is friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable.
Worst customer service ever. Staff are extreme rude and useless. Their knowledge is very questionable. Definitely the kind of place that would give bad advice so people have to come back to buy more. ? If I had another option I would never come back
Awesome fish collection. Got green neon tetra, no where to be found.
Really nice place. I bought four crystal shrimps and two of them died so far. Thats why i gave a 4 star could have been my fauld not too sure. Customer service and variety is good however.
A place where your basic human rights is being violated, as told by your government. Let's all be sheep because we know the government doesn't lie to us!
It's such a lovely place, got alot of options Pretty decent staffs too
A great place to shop for your hobbie. Plenty of fresh water species, however, salt water options could be better.
Very knowledgeable stuff I came with no knowledge at all about how to take care of a lizard the team guide me true all the process. Thank you
I've been buying everything from Big Al's for years now, ever since I started my freshwater aquarium hobby, but I'm tired of the bad customer service and atmosphere. They have a good variety of products, but don't waste your time buying their fish. You have to buy more fish than you want in your tank because chances are at least half will die. The only fish from this place that have survived are my golden weather loaches. When you look closely at a lot of their tanks, you'll notice sick, dead and dying fish. You get treated like a nuisance by employees. A lot of them are kids that act like they were forced to get a job by their parents, and hate being there.. I've had better experiences at other Big Al's, and would go out of my way to travel to their other locations, but I just can't be bothered to do that anymore. This location is the closest to me, and it's just not worth it to me. I'd only recommend going there if you're just looking for supplies and know exactly what you want.
Arrived at the store at sharp 6:00 pm and was told that they just closed. All I wanted was a filter but was told I could do it the next day. Funny enough there is another store called Dragon Aquarium in the Chinese plaza just a few meters away. So if Big Al's Pets does not want my business, I will take it elsewhere.
This big Al's has what many do not, a nice variety with well knowledgeable staff. My family has been coming to this location for over 20 years. Great place
I don't own any pets currently, but I still enjoyed visiting Big Al's to see a multitude of reptiles, fish and of course the shark!
The place is very nice with a great variety of fish and thanks. The store is a little bit messy with wet floors and products everywhere.
All the staffs are very friendly, knowledgeable and give information you need. Nice to shop at this place.
A bit dirtier than other big Al's. Tends to be very busy. Still better for fish than a PetSmart though.
Nice aquarium, knowledgeable staff and great place to see fish and reptiles . They have live shark and great big yellow eel there, pretty cool
The best Aquarium store in Mississauga. If you want look shark in Mississauga, you need visit this store. For feeding time come every Tuesday.
Cool place actually... been around awhile now... took my 5 year old for a "browse"... bought her first fish& a "accessories" with the help of a great employee! Great way to spend some time browsing... plenty of fish/reptiles.
My mother and I came into this store a while ago excited to buy fish. It was our first time in the store and it almost made us not want to go back. The customer service we experienced was disgusting. While I was talking to Yuseff at the front about filtration (very knowledgable! I had NO problem with him) my mother was in the animal side looking for help to talk to someone about fish. She approached a girl and she handed her a clipboard and rudely said "fill this out" and she stormed off without taking the time to even listen . My mother does not have the best english but in an organization where customer service is the backbone of your business something like a language barrier is not something you get frustrated or annoyed at! We left the store genuinely upset and decided to take our business elsewhere. A week later we decided to give this store another chance and glad we did. We came in on Sunday and were advised to talk to Vanessa. We will be returning when Vanessa is working and want her to know we really appreciate her fantastic customer service. Thank you vanessa!
Hands down my favourite place to purchase fresh water fish. Great selection, high quality and knowledgable staff. I'll either go here or Brampton and I regularly buy supplies from their online site which has fast free shipping.
Had a great experience in the store. Black girl with curly hair helped me a lot and gave me tips that I needed. Recommend the store even just for a fun visit!
Friendly staff and a really big selection for aquarium and terrarium needs.
Quick service, of course it was right on opening time 11:00 AM.
Fascinating. Knowledgeable pleasant staff.
Staff are knowledgable, friendly and always helpful. Been going there for over 20 years. They helped with my salt water aquariums, my pond care and now my terbium. They always give good advise. There prices are okay and they are good when the have a sale.
Great place ... There are a lot fish...
Have been here a few times to pick up fish, and fish supplies. Service is pretty fast and good. Selection is very good and prices are reasonable. If you want quality selection then I suggest visiting here.
I like looking at the fishes and snakes. The chameleon is my favorite. I wish I could buy him.
They have good variety of fresh and salt water pets, aquarium accessories and other things used for aquarium. Staff is knowledgeable and help if you buying pets. Please do some research if buying accessories.
Special thanks to Rudy for going above and beyond to help my friend get an axolotl! I really appreciate it :)
Big Als sales staff are always knowledgeable in their answers to my questions. Good prices and variety of fish and amphibians.
Staff are hit and miss but I've been coming here since before they even moved to this location. Some amazing fish
Really cool fish store, very helpful employees, and they have a pet shark in a tank! What more can you ask for?
APPALLING!!! REALLY INHUMANE facilities! theres hundreds of fish stuck in small containers. there is not enough water or space in the tanks for the amount of fish in them. the fish are physically stressed too. the shark swims in circles 3 FREE THEFISH THEY BELONG IN THE WILD!
I frequent this location and the one in Vaughan a lot. I started going to Mississauga location before they even moved beside Chinatown. Most of the staff here are nice and courteous, unfortunately they get overshadowed by the ones who do not know what customer service is. The one female cashier looks you dead in the eye and expects you to greet her first. I say thank you when get my change and receipt, no response from her. I really hope management will take note of these complaints seriously. It is disappointing to see this place become what it is today. Although I picked up livestock as recently as 2 months ago, it is clear your mainganos have internal parasites, yet they are still for sale and you added additional fish in that tank. If you are not winning on prices, health of fish, and definitely not in customer service - you are losing out when you should be way ahead given your footprint. The curly blonde hair girl in livestock dressed in country jeans is just rude and have no business working in retail or customer service, her attitude is more appropriate for correctional services or Ontario. Governmeng offices as a receptionist. Absolutely terrible, but I'm sure I'll be back out of convenience, not as frequent though. Considering I spent now well over 5.5k since April and have visited almost twice weekly, it is evident the "I don't care" attitude stems from managment down.
Every fish I buy from this location dies within a week. Don't go here. All the puffer fish I have bought here have died. The fish all seemed depressed. The ones from the brampton location are still alive and well.
Always a pleasure to visit Big Al's. This location is as good as Scarborough.
Great selection of pretty much everything related to aquariums and terrariums. I was most interested in the live aquatic plants and was not disappointed. Biggest issue for me is lack of convenient transit to the area. Will be coming back when I can.
Really helpful and honest staff! Stopped us from buying a fish that would outgrow our tank! Thank you!
Amazing service, very knowledgeable staff and very helpful. Will come back for sure and recommend this place! Big thanks to Monika!
Good selection of plants, fish and accessories. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Great place to buy live aquarium pets. Very helpful staff Always a delight to visit.
The store is nice but the customer service sucks here! like one guy i think someone said their name was steve horrible and is just downright rude another guy who is short and blond hair horrible service. Some of the guy are good there but the horrible customer service makes a lot of people not want to go back. I know of 5 complaints about the service at that place. This is a common trend among big als however but at least when i go to another location such as brampton I can actually get nice service! Even aquatic kindom is way better than these places!
Incredibly disappointed with this store. I've been to the Big Al's location in Hamilton and compared to that location, the Mississauga store is incredibly lacking. Issues include: (1) There was a large loud speaker on the top of a fish tank, and obviously this causes vibration within the water and stresses out the tank, this was evident as the fish looked stressed; (2) the betta fish are kept in a small glass cups, some of which were dirty and the fish were lifeless, there is no water flow and the betta fish literally look dead; (3) tanks are overcrowded; (4) several staff were standing around in the fish area, not doing anything (serving/greeting customers, or conducting tank maintenance), the only staff person that working was in the reptile area), there were several dead fish on the floor that these staff should have seen and been actively cleaning, it is not pleasant to customers and certainly demonstrates that the store is not capable of providing a livable environment for these fish. I am incredibly disappointed with the husbandry at this location, you advocate being a specialty fish store, and yet your store doesn't demonstrate this. Please do improve on the care of your fish. Pet stores have become so driven on "making a sale" and have lost the focus on the health and quality of life of their animals.
The first impression of the store with their decent amount of live stocks and kind staffs was great. One of their staffs went beyond helping me (as beginner of shrimp and plant aquarium) selecting right kinds. However, it turned out that it wasn't okay keeping 10 shrimps in 2 different kinds. One kind was aggressive and hurting the other kind. Additionally I found out that Algae Wafer contains Copper which is critically dangerous for invertebrates. They sold me Algae Wafers saying that is what they feed their shrimps. So, I returned 2 shrimps that were aggressive to others. One of their staffs gave me a credit for those. When I mentioned about the food is not the right kind for shrimps, the staff was stubbornly repeated the same story of "that is what we feed ours. It should be okay because it is very small amount." When it comes to animals' well being, you (as a staff working at such store) have to be more knowledgeable and serious than trying to hold $10 sale. She could have kept a customer who will give them continuous business. Instead, they lost a customer.
Lots of selection here to choose from no matter what you are looking for.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Brian has helped me to trouble shoot my tank problems and l was impressed with his knowledge, patience and willing to help after l purchased units in their store. Brian is really an expert in his field. Excellent customer service. I highly recommend this store. BRIAN thanks buddy!!!
Great showcase of so many different variety of aquariums along with some reptiles and a wide selection of fish. Can be quite crowded if there are alot of people but other than that, a fun place to look around and browse.
I stopped by here after visiting the local pools shop down the street. Was not really looking for anything just exploring the neighbourhood really. Great staff I am blown away by the knowledge they had. I am really considering getting something for my yard.
This place is the real thing what you want you will get the prices are pretty good and the staff are welcoming
Nice place, friendly staffs, variety of equipments for aquatic hobbies.
Big Al's Mississauga has exceptional quality fish and prices that reflect that. Fish are reasonably priced and managers are very knowledgeable and are easy to talk to. Every time I go into the store, the staff are very kind and always provide useful insight and show care for my fish and my tank, especially Dan. Dan is THE MAN
Nice selection but store will not answer their phone no matter how many times you call, and bald guy catching fish for me was quite rude. Nice store but too bad about the employees.
this big als is ok, don't go to managemant, female managers, don't seem to know there species,or help you out on any deals, try the staff, also, you have to buy breeding pairs, in most cases,. which, should be able to get just males if not breeding, prices, are very high, some are nice, some not worth the price. staff is very busy, not easy to get someone to help you, have to yell out for it, i prefer big als in hamilton, see james, great guy...
Tons of options for fish and reptiles in terms of supplies as well as live animals. Anything you need you can likely find at big Al's. There's also a live shark and eel to look at. The prices are a bit expensive in terms of tank/terrarium decor but their prices on fish are decent. I always buy my turtle some feeder fish from here.
Very warm and knowledgeable staff. I took a class on field trip and they planned the whole day. The kids were engaged and they all got plush toys to go with them. I highly recommend anyone do business with them.
Great service and good advice. Professional
Never going there again !!!! Having to get sick fish and play doctor to nurse them back to help is not the reason I got into this hobby. Poor quality ... absolutely disgraceful. Any other location is better than this one! You're given dirty looks when browsing instead if asking you if you need help the staff you rather pull their phone put of their pocket or talk about home life with coworkers. I dont care cassie that your boyfriend didnt get you Starbucks this morning. I care about fish hence why I'm in this store
I did not have good luck with there community fish. How ever salt water stock is pretty good. One thing I did not like that they do not refund your money when you return stuff but give a gift card instead. Not all staff are friendly and enthusiastic.
This is our go to place to get fish for our tank. They have a good variety of fish to choose from. Little stickers on the tanks indicate community fish, aggressive fish etc...The employees are very helpful/knowledgeable and seem like they are very invested in their job. Great place overall.
Stay away from Big Al's, bought a fish from their with Ich and infected my whole tank. Livestock is very poor, do not buy livestock from them.
Knowledgeable staff. Hugh selection.
Many fish to choose from. And reptiles. But please let the shark go. Why would u have him in such a little tank. Very cruel
Amazingly massive wonderful place to visit wish there were more adult African cichlids and the prices were more reasonable however still a great place to check out
Not recommended to purchase livestock from them. their tanks are all connected and sick fish from one tank will spread the illness to other tanks! The anorexic girl in the fish section is extremely incompetent and sold fish with Ick! Their dry goods and other stuff are reasonable and has lots of variety. Just avoid buying Fish!
THANK YOU BIG AL"S MISSISSAUGA FOR HAVING A PHONE NUMBER I CAN CALL TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT PRODUCTS SOLD AT THE BIG AL"S IN HAMILTON... SORRY FOR HAVING TO USE YOUR STAFF TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS CARRIED IN THE HAMILTON LOCATION WHERE I LIVE AND HAVE TO BUY FROM ( DUE TO INABILITY TO MAKE IT INTO YOUR STORE IN MISSISSAUGA). THANKS FOR BEING RESPONSIBLE TO BIG AL CLIENTS ON BEHALF OF YOUR DEAD BEAT SISTER STORE IN HAMILTON. THANKS FOR GETTING MY RED EAR SLIDER TANK SET UP FOR ME BEFORE I MOVED TO HAMILTON. THANKS FOR YOUR PROFESSIONALISM.
Awsome store, awesome people, awsome selection........ HORRIBLE WEBSITE.....BigAL plz bring ur website into 2020, you dint even have a way to see ur inventory.
Wide selection, friendly and knowledgable staff. We just have a little aquarium with a few fish, but we still get lots of attention.
This is my go to place for aquarium supplies and fish. They have a good supply of common fish as well as more specialty breeds. Also the best place to buy aquascaping rocks and wood. Great variety.
I dont know where all this negativity is coming from, Ive never had a problem. Their prices are good, their stock/selection is always good and the staff is very helpful!
The staff is great. Knowledgeable and friendly. They don't try to upsell you. They do their best to make sure you know how to care for the fish and reptiles you are buying. We left with a wealth of knowledge without spending a large fortune.
It's great that they have a lot of stuff but they need to expand their space spread out the stuff so people can walk around and explore everything is so cramped up
Never had a problem with the reptile department but some people of fish department are often rude. Also, recently I bought 2 decently expensive fish and after a few days in my established tank I noticed they were harrasing my other fish. I called to raise my concerns and ask about returning the fish, it had only been 2 days and I was told that they may be able to return half the price. This I thought was stupid, half the price would be treating the fish as if they were dead already which they were not. Now a week after all my other fish are healthy and alive, the 2 new ones that I tried to return are dead, and I bet if I brought them back now they'd just say "oh its past the 5 day guarantee too bad". I've been going to big al's for years now and have never complained about any fish that had died or anything, but I will no longer be going there, I can find everything there cheaper elsewhere anyways. I know you probably don't care but you just lost a loyal customer.
Great staff especially Elisa - one of the livestock pros - she is very patient & helpful, and answers any questions you might have. Always a healthy and great selection of fish and related products for all needs, at good prices. I make the trip to this location all the way from Markham as the shopping experience here is well worth it!
Great place to get fish... Also great Weekly deals... Well worth the look
Great selection and knowledgeable staff but parking is a real problem on the weekends.
Sold me ghost shrimp as Amano shrimp. Plant selection is not great. Would instead recommend to checkout angelfins near the airport
Super helpful staff I just picked up some freshwater shrimp they checked them again before handing them off. Very kind.
DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. DO NOT!!! Very recently as I usually do I purchased feeder fish for my red eared slider turtle. The turtle is only about 6 years old, taken care of properly they have a life span of 20 years or more. Long story short, I bought the feeder fish, no less than a day later I noticed my turtle dead in his tank. I have a big professional set up for the turtle, always have, I also have years of experience in caring for all the reptiles and aquatic animals that I own, all are always beyond well taken care of. I emailed them and let them know the situation. I am actually one that grows such attachments caring for my animals. Once I sent the email I received one back saying they were looking into it. After that, I had received another email back saying they don't know what happened and offering for me to GO IN and discuss a possible discount on a new turtle...... I emailed back to let them know that something as small as that doesn't put me much at ease, and they just brushed it off and didn't even bother to send me back a simple email. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. I used to be down here every single weekend to search around to buy things for the aquatic pets, aquariums and reptiles that I own. And I no longer will, because I refuse to come home to any more dead pets. BE WARNED. DO NOT CHANCE IT. They don't even have the decency to get back to me once they realize I wouldn't give in to such an unacceptable "solution" ... "come in and talk about a "possible" discount" and left at that. This is supposed to be a professional grade supplier... it is defiantly not. I won't be back in and I full warn everybody else who shops here or conciders shopping here to go somewhere else.
Good store...... But never has stock for hard scape....
Got great help from one employee but girl in glasses and blonde hair was extremely rude. Asked to help up us with the process of buying fishes and she was giving attitude and told us to stand in line. Ruined our experience but was glad to come across other friendly employees.
I bought a gsp from mississauga store, it dont even open and it died .they dont back up there product. check befor you buy.
They are providing services in both smart and safe way. Reliable.
Perfect place for fish lover! I was one of the person who never been to big aquariums and fish shops!! after visiting their shop I really into getting aquarium very soon!! I must suggest to visit this place!!
They are super kind and knowledgeable
Marine fish not maintain healthy. Bought 4 clownfish all infected with ich and brooklynella. No warranty on fish or exchange. Apperanty no warranty on any marine pets. Now I know why. If you want to risk buying marine pets, make sure you also purchase another QT tank and various medication to treat fish before you get infected entire tank.
Big store that sells all sorts of fish; from small tiny ones to huge sharks lol....lots of items to choose from decor wise for your tank too. Also they sell reptiles as well. Friendly staff. The only thing that is a problem at times is the parking. It gets busy on the weekends and sometimes its hard to find a spot...small lot.
Good variety of livestock and plants....probably some of best prices around for food and hard goods. Look for the shelf with the discounted final sale items.
I like this pet store I've been there before just to browse around and take a look at some of the animals including their huge selection of fresh and sea fish, they keep their place nice and neatly they have a lot of products for every customer, staff is super friendly they're willing to help you, they are involved in the whole stage for better selection and make recommendations base on ir needs and wants, so far positive experience and I'm definitely coming back here, just recently bought a few fish for my aquarium first-timer got all my answers and best of all their prices are reasonable.. Come check them out.
Got a good amount of stuff to buy
I like this place but some of the prices are unreasonable and the fish section is dark making it hard to see the names and numbers of the tanks that you have to write down on a clipboard to make your fish order.
The store itself is OK, the main issue here is the manager, I think his name is MARK, very rude Guy, no respect for people, many times I said Good morning to him and he just look away without answering. Too bad it’s not legal to video this Guy action during the 2012 tent sale watching him giving away stuff to his buddies for $5 and want to sell the same to me for $20, Same guy kept coming back and Mark just kept giving him. Guys like Mark should not be working at a pet Store; he should go to other pet stores and take examples and how they deal with customers. Sorry but Big all’s shouldn't be having a manager like Mark. The location is Mississauga.Same as your fish tank, A bad boss will lead to corruption. Bad management sets bad example for the rest. The younger kids working at the back are OK, they try it's the older ones, especially the slim tall one.
Staff is very friendly, on point with their knowledge of products, and fully stocked. One of the best location I've been to. I'd reccomend this location to anyone looking for pets or some knowledge on up keeping pets
Nice shark exhibit. Its pretty common to find oddball in the freshwater section. Rare puffers, cichlids, and corydoras. The saltwater section is nice as well. This location is much better than the Brampton or Kitchener location. The only big als that really competes with this one is the one in Scarborough on Kennedy. The Kennedy one is better though cause they have birds and small mammals
Beautiful
Great selection in dry goods but the fish room is looking worse for wear. More attention and care needs to be given to those poor creatures.
Fish are extremely healthy, especially compared to other big chain stores. In 2 years I've only had one saltwater emerald crab die but the other 300+ fish I've bought from here have been healthy and happy.
Staff was very helpful. Amazing selection of freshwater fish and plants. Incredibly cool place, will be back!
Other than the manager, the place and workers here are very disappointing. Customer service is extremely rude, workers seem way to busy for you. THEY HAVE SO MANY SICK AND ILL FISH ITS SO SAD. PLEASE DONT BUY AND SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS.
After spending well over a thousand dollars there setting up our new tank, as well as fish, you would think that they would appreciate you as a customer. Everyone there is always in a foul mood and acts like they are doing you a favour when they have to help you. Also sold us parasitic fish and wouldnt own up to it.Take your business to Tails and Scales. Helpful staff who at least dont make you feel like an inconvenience
I had the pleasure of dealing with their Manager Mark, he is very helpful and patient. Great customer service! Always a good experience.
The choice of fish will never change here..same fish over and over and over and over and over again. Nothing special at all. Came in hoping for some cool cichlids as usual they have nothing out of the ordinary. Boring store overall. Avoid the female staff if you don't want to be faced with unnecessary attitude.
Very well stocked with both fresh and salt water fish and equipment. Parking can be tight sometimes on weekends though.
Great aquarium and reptilian supply store. This is where I buy my toads worms and he loves them. People who work here are helpful and pleasant. Even shark feeding every Tuesday @7pm????
Great Variety of fish reptiles and supplies, very helpful employees also.
I bought 6 glo danios at the midnight madness sale. It seems like they separate their green glo danios from their other glo danios. We werent allowed to pick them and we noticed the green ones were not as active as the others. Within 3 days, one of the green glo danios became really weak. We isolated it and asked Big Als what we should do. They suggested a new tank (not fully cycled) was likely it. We have a fully established tank. They asked us to bring the fish in to get it exchanged. The manager exchanged it for free. Now the second green glo danio has died. It's been 6 days since our original purchase and within the refund policy period but they won't exchange it, making vague excuses and useless suggestions. When we looked at the green danio tank, we noticed several fish lying at the bottom of their tank, struggling to survive. We believe that they are selling sick green glo danio fish to begin with it. Their customer service is atrocious and the quality of the fish not great. We regularly buy supplies at Big Al's but his was the first time actually buying fish. Given this experience we will no longer be patronizing this store, not for fish or supplies.
Staff is great here. Some customers are jerks, but the store can't control that, and they do their best to help everyone. You people saying that the staff have poor customer service skills are probably just a-holes who deserve it.
Went here on the birthday with my brother so he could get me some fish but theres only 2 people who know how to use a fishnet so I went to the reptile department and asked someone if they could net some fish for me but they dont really care about helping another department that's clearly busy .there is always workers talking to the cashiers maybe that's why there only 2 fish guys to help 10 customers I under stand you guys are not always the busiest. I wish I could get paid to talk to co workers. I wanted to leave with something but didn't feel like waiting 40 mins just to have someone net some fish
Pia is always amazing when I am in. Just want to thank her and the staff for doing a great job
Yassum/Jassum? was incredibly knowledgeable!!!! Amazing experience! Recently acquired a 100 gallon aquarium and learned so much here!! Wonderful collection & great variety! :)
they have 2 peackock bass labeled "temensis" when they are clearly mono's huge rip off at 64.99 they also have a low quality flowerhorn and just because its friken blue its 89.99
Wide selection but we have had ICH, tape worms, and some fairly skinny fish. They could try harder in the fish room. But some cool insects and amphibians. And a huge selection of food.
Never buy tetras here. they always die and bring disease to your tank. Every time I've bought any type of tetra here, they die and give some sort of disease to my other tetras and they all die too.
Very helpful staff always excellent service and great selection
Big Al's is a great store in general it just sticks that they are not like a true franchise so they all run differently. You literally can't get the same brand of fish food at each one. And your point don't accumulate as whole. The accumulate only with the stores that affiliate with one another
Bought two damsel fish, and a clownfish for our 30gallon saltwater tank. Turns out the clownfish was infected with Brooklynella, a common parasite that infects clownfish. Ended up dying with the first few days, and infecting the other clownfish. After calling customer support and reporting the issue, they offered to "call us back." Which obviously they didn't, and when we attempted to call them back, they hung up. Horrible customer service, and infected fish.
Really knowledgeable staff & very helpful. Good selection of fish & all very healthy.
Great inventory and helpful staff. Lots to browse. Covid regulations in place. Clean, tidy store. Good amount of parking. Reasonably priced. We found what we were looking for. Would recommend. ????
Great place to shop for a huge variety fishes, snakes, lizards, etc. That staffs are extremely helpful and friendly.
One of Mississauga’s greatest aquariums! Don’t be afraid to pop by and shop for a few fish because this is such a great place to get the essentials in becoming a fish owner. Fish are easy to take care of and are cheap so hey you’re getting a pretty good deal hereB!
Great store to find many aquarium items. Also sells items for other small pets. There are many thought out the city. They do price match against any Canadian retailer. Their points system is also good. They also take trade ins for fish (it's good to call ahead and double check for specific fish. Great staff that is always helpful as well
not my go to aquarium anymore.feel bad for all the staff here, they seem miserable on weekends. Questionable livestock.
Great store and super friendly knowledgeable staff
Big Al’s is my go to aquarium store. The only person I talk to when I am there is Praveen. He has helped me stock and provided a lot of insight when I decided to convert my aquarium into a Malawi Cichlid tank. I strongly suggest talking to him, especially if you have an African Cichlid tank.
Amazing place. Tons of pet fish and aquariums. They have very unique and beautiful selection of fish.
Great store with a vast selection of fish, plants and reptiles. Big shark tank with the biggest Moray eel I have seen. Staff are knowledgeable and helpfull.
Love this store! Great variety of fish, corralls, plants, etc. So beautiful!
My go to for aquarium needs. Good selection, beautiful fish on display with great weekly deals on livestock and shelve items. They take good care of thier animals and will not sell the ones who are sick. I would recommend not coming during the really quiet times as it seems to take longer for them to get your livestock for you then the busy hours. Only a couple guys on the floor and they seem to be mainly preoccupied with cleaning and maintenance. If you're looking to buy common and popular fish, keep your eyes out and wait a bit if you can. The sales change weekly.
Selection for fish and products is the best but the customer service was terrible. Everyone seemed like they were in a rush to go stand behind a counter.
discouraged after coming here on a Saturday, retail stores get busy - don't appreciate getting frustration taken out on me. Practice professionalism and learn to work under pressure. Retail isn't for everyone. Took my business to elsewhere
Knowledgeable and friendly staff, one of their employees helped me fight an ICH invasion in my tank. Compared to their neighbours the fish here are much higher quality and healthier.
Wide variety of fish, reptiles and accessories. Staff is nice and ensures your questions are answered.
they have me a fish full of white fuzz and missing a tail. they don't check the fish over.
This place is really going down hill over the years. The tanks are not clean at all. While good for aquarium hardware and fish food etc. I dont think I would ever buy any fish from here as the tanks are just not kept in a good condition and therefore the livestock is probably not the healthiest either
Largest selection of aquariums and livestock in the city. Store is kept clean and everything seems healthy. Best deals for aquariums in the city. All the fish seem healthy and the store is kept very clean. I took one star off because a was wrongly advised that I can’t keep Cory catfish with shrimp but it’s not a huge deal
Massive store with a great selection of livestock and fair prices! Keep an eye on their weekly specials.
The staff here are always so knowledgeable and helpful. I'd like to say a big "THANK YOU" to Stephen for his advice and assistance in choosing my fish today. Keep up the great job!
DO NOT BUY A SNAKE FROM HERE!!!!! I bought a normal ball python on Friday, the person who helped me didn’t seem to have much knowledge on reptiles. I was sold an animal that is absolutely INFESTED with Mites. Very disappointed. This beautiful animal was a Christmas gift for my son, who has spent the last year doing research on the subject. I genuinely believe that my 7 year old is more qualified to provide help/knowledge to customers than most employees working here. I tried calling the store to inquire about mite treatment products. Of course no one knows how to answer a phone. Just unbelievably disappointing.
Fair knowledge of reptiles, fish and aquatics... how ever the tank they contain their black tip shark in.... it isn’t big enough, by spades. Not to mention the other larger tropical fish, eel etc... I would have very little issue with the store if not for this. I’ve been brought to tears by there treatment of the species in their large show tank. And it’s a standing sideshow when they feed it. If it’s not already it should be an animal right violation. Which I will be looking into. They aren’t toys, they’re living creatures. They’d get four stars if not for this awful display.
Did not hate the place but real talk the workers here have way to much attitude. But i guess i would hate my life if i worked at a aquarium store for 10 years plus
was here last week and sadly overheard some racist comments coming from one of the female staff members while a gentleman was bagging my fish. Sad to hear things like this in a retail setting, I wish I could've recorded it. Absoloutely disgusting, ill be coming back strictly due to how patient and helpful the employee assisting me was. I wanted to speak to a manager about the comments but ironically it was later confirmed she was a manager. Excellent way to guide the youth with your ignorance!
They have a good selection of fish and supplies but their staff always seems annoyed when you ask them questions or even when you ask then to pack fish. I first came to the store based on my friends recommendation but every-single-time I came in, I was made to feel that I shouldn't bother the staff. Most of these experiences were in the live fish section. It's too bad, I was hoping to build a client relationship with the store but I really don't feel like going there anymore.
My girlfriend and I go all the time to get bearded dragon food and look at at the gorgeous fish.
Great for all your aquarium needs. Shark feeding every week, complete with Jaws tune, kids love it!
I wish they had more up to date pics of the live stock.
I have visited the store with my two daughters very many times and they love it! The staff are very welcoming and teach my children facts about the fish. We are repeated customers of big al's for years! The fish species they carry are spectacular and have contributed to our fish tank at home! Thank you big al's for continued respectable service and giving my children the opportunity to learn about your huge variety of fish!
Quarantine the fish you buy here. Research diseases and treatments yourself otherwise you will be given melafix and salt. Probably a great store for people who are new to the hobby who don't know better but this store is the worst it's it's ever been.
Store os very clean fish staff very helpfull and fish are very healthy the tanks in the store were clean. I bought a lot of fish and they all are big colourfull and healthy. They lost a star for me The girl at the frount check out was on her phone texting instad of helping the line up. Then she got very rude when a lady ask her if she could hurry up The guys working were fast and friendly the girl mot so much.
Their hermit crabs live in awful condition, when I went here was a spider in the tank and no food or water. A few years before I bought one and it had mites, which eventually killed it and my other two crabs. Last week I bought crickets for my gecko here and the entire cabinet was covered in little ants, but since this is the only pet store near me I still purchased them. Huge mistake, they were all dead within days. It was a waste of money.
Excellent customer service. I recently bought two turtles, the rep guided me and gave helpfully tips.
This place is huge, great selection and variety of fish and products. Also has a sweet shark/eel display that you could gaze at for hours
Had a very positive experience this past weekend. Our 5yr old son really wanted a lizard so we went to this store to do some research and inquire about keeping a lizard as a pet. We spoke with Suzanna and she was extremely knowledgeable and took time to educate us and our son about everything we needed to know. We did our research and went with a bearded dragon. We are delighted with our new family Member. Great overall experience getting our first family pet.
It would be nice if the staff knew more about the products and the fish/plants. I like the supplies they have and all but could you treat the fish better? The beta fishes there look dead and sad.The shark is close to going crazy,it's half the size of the tank,it cannot live in that any longer.
DON'T BUY FISH FROM HERE! This place doesn’t take care of the fish properly leaving them stressed and prone to disease especially the gold fish where they have hundreds of fish in one tank. (THE STAFF ARE NOT INFORMED ENOUGH ABOUT THE FISH) I recently decided to pick up some new tropical gold fish and after introducing them to my tank with two other fancy gold fish I’ve had for just over 2 years and two bottom feeders that I’ve also had for about 2 years now one of the new fish died after a few days of having it and about a week after my entire aquarium had a outbreak and now my entire tank is dead. No life other then this disease now... I’d also like to say that this store has more teenagers who don’t know what they are doing then their is adult employees which I find extremely stupid for a “legit” pet store. I’d honestly rather get all my fish and supplies from pet-smart from now on.
As a newbie to fish keeping I really enjoyed my visit. I shop here for reptile needs but I came in to buy my first freshwater tank and the supplies for it. Aquatic staff were friendly and helpful, zero issues, once my tank is cycled I look forward to coming back to get some fish and food for them!
Great store, always busy but staff always there to help. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Fish and reptiles always kept in pristine cages and in top health. Been shopping here for years for my aquarium and reptile needs.
Have been buying all my aqaurium supplies at Big Al's for as long as I can remember. I'll brouse in other aquarium stores to find good deals but I do the bulk of my purchases at Big Al's Great staff that can answer all your questions. Huge selection of fish to choose from especially the Mississauga location.
Great variety of fish and other products. My only issue is when it got busy it some of the staff seemed quite standoffish seemingly wanted is to pay and leave.
My husband and I went to the Big Al's in Mississauga, and our experience was quite varied. There was a guy in the product room who was quite helpful and nice to chat with, and tried his best to refer us to people who could help us. We had bought two Vampire Crabs (geosesarma bicolors) from the Pet Valu in Weston, and it turns out that nobody anywhere really knows much about them. As a matter of fact, there was a guy in the fish room who when i asked him if they carried crabs he asked me "saltwater, or freshwater?" I replied freshwater and his response was "Freshwater crabs don't exist." I responded with "well, they do since i have two. They're purple and yellow." And he just shrugged and turned his back to us. For the record, Wikipedia states that "There are more than 1,300 described species of freshwater crabs, out of a total of 6,700 species of crabs across all environments. The total number of species of freshwater crabs, including undescribed species is thought to be up to 65% higher, potentially up to 2,155 species, although most of the additional species are currently unknown to science". Overall this one stupid employee ruined my experience at this store. He was incredibly rude and treated us like complete morons when he was the one who in fact knew absolutely nothing.
These guys got everything you need for your aquarium. Highly recommended.
They have big variety of fishes. I bought fishes and decoration for the fish tank multiple times. But unfortunately two times I got disease from their fish. First time it was a neon with fungus. All neons I bought died. But last time I got white spot disease from their fishes. I am not sure who was infected. I bought swagtail and guppy. Both died. Unfortunately all my cat fishes and all red swagtail fishes also died. Even after I came to this store and get medication. I follow instructions, take filter out etc. Finaly I decided to avoid this store.
Mixed reviews on this store. Equipment staff have been very helpful not so much with manager and some of the other staff. Fish have been hit and miss.
Great place for all your fish and reptile needs. Helpful staff and full stock means you'll always find what you're looking for.
Amazing variety of fish, as well as quality products to care for them.
They took in my fish after she grey way to big for her tank.
Amazing place big als I dislike Brampton location as I posted a review there as well not a good store at all. LOVELOVELOVE this location, staff is amazing and knows their stuff, don't try to upsell you or make a sale regardless of what you need.
Great experiences, awesome store great selection and healthy fish.
Must visit staff is friendly and professional. They have live shark and multiple kinds of fish and reptiles. Most of them are lizards.
Customer service is atrocious right up to the Manager. These guys are one of those places that post that they’re open till 6:00pm on Google Maps, but actually start closing a half an hour before that. When I arrived there at 5:50, there were two other groups of customers outside that were also turned away. At first the employee at the door said that they were closed. After asking to speak to the manager, we were told that they had reached their capacity and couldn’t let anyone else in the store. Stuck around to verify that and only saw 5 people leaving in total. I told the manager I drove all the way from Woodbridge expecting to be let in if I arrived before 6:00, but all he had to say was that I’d have to come again another day. After being treated like that, there’s a very slim chance I’ll ever visit this place again. At the end of the day, they may have a great selection, but if they don’t value their customers I’d rather spend my hard earned money anywhere else but Big Al’s. Consider this review before you go out of your way to get there, only to be turned away and told to come back again some other time.
Ryan was very informative regarding how to clean a used tank and get it setup with red tail plates. Which were transitioning from 10g tank to 48g tank. Extremely impressed with his understanding and knowledge. Strong communication skills.
This was the first time I visited Big Al’s in Mississauga (actually recommended but Petsmart since they couldn’t help me), and I would like to mention that Jessica was so helpful, thoughtful and understanding for my needs with my inquiries and situation (had to buy a Betta fish that looked like our last one that recently past away, for my young daughters). Jessica was was very sympathetic towards my needs and gave great suggestions on how she may be able to give me options on buying the fish during this lack-down situation. As recommended I sent her pictures of our old fish and Jessica was able to find 4 of her choices to the front where I could select the one that was best suited for my family’s needs. All the employees gave great suggestions while I was paying and all were cheerful, professional and made me feel quite satisfied for going to Big Al’s for my needs. I would recommend this store in particular for how well they deal with customer service, especially how well Jessica dealt with my needs. Thank you very much ???? Andre
Best staff great wide selection of products for all needs. I'm from Brampton and I make the trip to this location for those 2 main reasons it's well worth it!
Amazing variety of products, friendly staff and outstanding customer service and support. Going there for over 10 years
Been 3 years buying fish, fish food on this store never had a bad experience
Been here over a dozen times and finally never again. Staff is useless, everyone's name is John Snow because they know nothing. All they want to do is sell you fish with bad advice hope they die so they can sell more. Spend a bit more money and go anywhere but Big Als.
0 star, worker rude and mean in fish place, they are impolite to customers, please don’t come this one big al’s. They bought the star up to 4.5. Bad customer service and experience. No one tougher some of the worker : should friendly and politely to customer. Low diathesis.
Staff isn't very helpful, but I think that's because people come in to just look and they assume everyone is just looking?
This store is one of the best aquarium stores in al of the GTA!! I always come in to get food and goodies for my pleckos and the young gentleman Alec always helps me. He's so knowledgeable. I always tell the other ladies at my retirement residence to see him and they are never disappointed. Keep up the good work alec!
Bad customer service I asked for help and a got a girl who answered one question and then walked away before i could ask another one And if u ask anything for beginners they just tell you to buy a beta I wanted to spend a fortune on new everything because i wanted to get in the hobby but i didn't spend it there when theres no one to help (Thats my review from going there multiple times)
Staff is indifferent. We were picking out an expensive saltwater fish and I asked for a specific one that looked healthiest. The girl that was helping literally shoved the net in the water and picked out the first fish she was able to catch and told me it was the one I chose. I couldn't really see so I assumed that this was the case. We brought it home and it was not the one I chose. Because it had some scales missing. It is doing ok at the moment but I am disappointed since I would've liked a healthier specimen to start with especially with the mortality rate of saltwater fish
They clearly bought their google review, as you can see the yelp review is only 2.8 stars, which is a much more accurate representation of this store. It’s extremely disappointing to see how run down and unhealthy the fishes and corals are here. The employee have absolutely 0 knowledge and experience knowing what coral is what and even the salt water fishes, you can see how poorly manage these place by how sick their corals and fishes are. Hopefully the owner will invest in hiring people that are passionate about the hobby and have experience with salt water fishes and coral.
They have huge variety and good prices on aquariums
Huge selection of fish and decorations with knowledgeable people to assist in building aquariums, pretty fair prices
Good luck getting anything from these guys via curbside pick up. They're out of stock of many items listed as in stock on the website; they let the phone ring and ring without picking up; and are rude when you finally manage to get a hold of anyone. If I was the owner/manager of this place I would be furious with the staff.
Great place. Much better stock than some other large chain stores. Has pretty much anything you need for fishkeeping. The plant stock is not of the greatest quality and last time I needed plants they were missing a few different species.
Well here we go bought air pump and a bubble wand few days ago went back to your store to return the bubble wand because it was to long and the air pump wasn't strong enough talked to a gentleman there and he said you can go and check for another item because we don't give money back just store credit So I could not find anything so I went to the cashier girl and she gave e a store credit so the next day I went to the other location to see if they had a better selection and they did it's the Kenedy local so I bought some items they gave my store credit there and the girl there told me that the girl wrote on the card that only the mississauga store can I use the card so I couldn't get the credit there I was p issued off its the same company should use it at any also or she should of told me bad service in the past two months I spent 1550 at that location but now I will think of not going again ????
Nice selection of fish. The staff try to up sell you on things you don't really need and would know that if you are new to the hobby. Do yr research before going and then buy.
Its a great place but bit pricey! They should have more deals for customers.
Good selection of fish, and fish accessories. But the section where the fish are kept is too dark to read the signage and too full of product in the aisles to easily walk around.
My first time at Big Al's was a disappointment. Going in to get a big tank and stand I was prepared to drop a pretty penny... I spent literally half an hour trying to get someone to help me out yet the employees were busy talking to their friends I assume. I wasn't the only one not receiving service, you could visibly see the agitation of other customers. I eventually gave up and left after I saw a younger guy struggling to lug a tank out since no employees seemed interested to assist him. At that point I went to another store who actually wanted my money and gave me great service. I wouldn't advise anyone coming here unless you know what you need and it's easy to grab without employee assistance or you will be waiting a good while before they care to notice you.
Not family friendly, came on the weekend and the old guy with a limp creepily checks out young girls and even told one of the female staff to take off her shirt when water spilled on her. Total creep.
I always go here for my aquarium needs. I have a 90 gallon take with 5 African Cichlids. Staff are very knowledgeable, lots of variety of fish and supplies to choose from.
Super friendly, very organized and staff are always helpful.
Best variety of fish and great free advice
Hands down the best customer service experience I’ve ever had at any form of pet store! I live in Hamilton and will return to this location for any of my needs! Alicia is the most helpful employee there and provided knowledge and information well beyond the scope of expectations! That girl deserves a raise!
Friendly people and very helpful, great selection if everything you need for your pets.
I've been going to Big Al's for several years, and I've never had any serious issues. Their prices are always competitive and the quality of the fish are superb. The Management always tends to my needs. I Recommend Big Al's to all of my friends!!
Amazing stock and shop. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable
I usually stop in here with my fiancee at least 3 times a week. Awesome management, friendly staff, great products and great livestock.
Great place to visit with kids
Great place. It's very helpful and you will find everything you need for fish, turtles, reptiles and more. Highly recommended.
Friendly, honest and helpful staff. Definitely the best Big Al's and a great place to go for all your aquatic pet needs! Wish customers treated the staff with more respect--they're sales associates, not servants.
Big Als in Mississauga is the best store I believe of the franchises in the GTA - bright, clean, lots of items well laid out. I find their prices more expensive than Petsmart for the same or similar products. Most of the people are extremely friendly although I find one of their more senior staff members (an older gentleman) a little grumpy with limited patience.
This place has a very good selection of fish but unfortunately had a bad experience they tell u what fish u have to get and what you cant get! My daughter wanted one gold fish an they said we can't get a gold fish if it's your first time buying a tank you would have to wait a month an telling me I have to get the Betta fish an they would not sell it to us an telling us which fish to by basically. I just felt like they were making decisions for me. I will not go there again!!!
Has everything you need from fish to reptiles! Friendly staff - just wouldnt purchase crickets or worms here for my reptile they dont ever look fresh at all. Over all good place!
I went here a few days ago to buy a new tank set up for my beta fish. When you walk in, there’s this young girl, her meet and greet was terrible. It seemed like she was a teenager just working at the front desk with no experience about anything. So that didn’t help, I was standing for about 10 minutes looking at all the tanks and nobody came to ask me if I needed help. I asked one guy hoping he would help me with what I needed but it seemed like he was more in of a rush for something. Then I went to their fish area and all the workers there were just gossiping and chatting, didn’t ask if I needed any help. Luckily I did some research before hand, so I had an idea what I wanted. I just wanted more information and assistance when picking the materials. These workers just seemed like a bunch of teenagers wanting to chit chat than actually do their job. I paid about $120 for everything, and I got zero assistance besides all the giggling and laughing. I would suggest coming here if you already have something in mind, but if you’re seeking for assistance you should go somewhere else.
