I’ve been here more than couple of times but I never had an experience like this before. It was terrible and the attitude of the staffs not acceptable. I went here to purchase some fish, plants, and some other accessories like food filters substrate, but one of the staff were pushing me to go faster. He wants me to get out ASAP. I wanted to get some live plants for my aquarium but he was limited my time of being in the store and telling that i have to buy fast. At the same time there were more customers in the store, nobody saying them to do faster. I felt very discomfort and had to purchase a very little plants. At checkout the staff tells another staff that I could go to pet smart and buy those plants. It’s my wish where I want to go and what I need to purchase, not theirs. Their attitude needs to change if they want to succeed in this field. They should treat customers nicely

I was disheartened to find the old Big Al's location on Wellington, near Southdale closed a few years back. That was absolutely impressive in size. Just a nice memory of the grandiose stature of the old London Big Al's. This location is rather tucked away in a strip mall and a bit out of the way for me, although that's not a strike against them. A couple of the older staff members here are quite knowledgeable and nice. The rest are like anywhere else you'd find - just an able bodied person working retail. That's just the way it is these days anywhere you go. Most of them are pleasant, some have attitude. Again, not unlike any other retail shop. Supplies and livestock levels are decent and they will order something for you, if you give them a call. Prices - competitive.

Came into get advise this afternoon on how to save an elderly friend's fish. He has been hospitalized for 2 wks and they were in poorly cared for tank. The staff advised me on what to do and agreed to care for the fish until I can get the tank cleaned up and running. I was able to salvage a lot of what he had and only needed to buy new gravel, water conditioner, and a thermometer. I was able to get it cleaned up pretty good tonight. Will be able to bring his fish back to him when he recovers. Thank you!

My Million-Dollar-Dog Toby

We shop at Big Al's on Commissioners Rd fairly often, not only for fish, but for dog food too. Due to my dogs multiple allergies, the owners of Big Al's have graciously offered to special order his food, as I cannot find it elsewhere. Recently, his food was held up at the border which put us in a tough spot. My dog cannot eat most common dog foods or even raw diets as he has health issues involving his GI tract and Pancreas. The owner of Big Al's on Commissioners Rd drove 3 hours out to find the last cans in Ontario to hold us over until the order was able to cross the border. We are so completely grateful for this generosity, and highly praise Big Al's London. I would absolutely recommend them as not only a fish store, but a pet store! The staff there really know their stuff and the head honcho really cares about his customer base.

The London Big Al's gave myself bad advice about buying a tank. I asked about a tank for my Piranhas, and when I went to go to the Kitchener Big Al's and the employees in Kitchener said that the tank was to small. The gentleman that I talked to in Kitchener was very helpful to me about the situation. But the one in London wasnt up to date on fish and products... Just saying in my opinion.

I am giving Big Al's one star. I recently purchased a back drop for a 10 gallon tank and the moron's cut it far too short. My 2 year old niece could have done a better job. The staff member I talked to lacked knowledge and had to bother her co-workers who were bust for answers. I don't care if you're new at your job, or not. I’ve been coming here for years. It’s a lovely family owned business and they all have a passion and love for aquatics. I see a lot of people have commented on the fish that aren’t for sale, but I appreciate they’re quarantining them for OUR safety. The government has put a ban on medication so if our fish get sick, they will die. The business makes no sales or money by doing this, why are people angry with them? Their turtles are also rescued and under the care of a veterinarian that I work for.

We love this store! I've neen a customer since I was a kid, back when they were on Wellington Road. Quality stock, excellent customer service and they will always take the time to help you understand how best to maneuver this hobby. I wanted some fish that they had just gotten in, an employee name Katie explained to me that they needed to make sure the fish were healthy before sale, so I couldn't get them. I really appreciate the care they put into making sure their stock is top notch and making sure I wouldn't bring home fish that would get my whole community tank sick. Stellar job! I know other places will just let you buy the fish straight off, but it makes way more sense to wait than kill off an entire tank because I'm impatient.

In these times, Big Al's has a primary curbside pickup policy but they have been very responsive via Facebook and by phone. I made a few purchases so far (aquatic plants, cherry shrimp and a betta). Prices are very reasonable. Due to current circumstances, they do not accept returns. Otherwise, customer service has been prompt and courteous.

The words "We don't have it but we can order it" rings pretty much everytime I have been in. Even when they do have something sitting in their showroom like aquarium salt its already been spoken for. Why have product that is spoken for sitting out on the showroom floor? If space is a premium then actually move to a decent location where things can be properly stored and you can actually put some product on your shelves.

Terrible first time experience at this location. I asked if they carried Tropica 1-2-3 Grow Tissue Culture plants as my aquarium is pest free. The one girl had no idea what i was talking about. I pulled up a picture and the other girl says "Oh those ones...yeah my boss doesn't want us to carry them." Ok.....Can i preorder 5 cultures then because every Big Al's has them. She said " you'll have to wait until he comes back from vacation and there's no guarantee he will do that for you" I asked who does your ordering when he is away? She said "We have another person do it but we need permission." How long do I have to wait til he comes back? A week. I have been a loyal customer to Big Al's Brampton and Hamilton. Always had a positive experience for well over 20 years. This location is THE ABSOLUTE WORST. I will drive to Hamilton from London before I EVER step foot in this location again.

TBH I miss the good old days of the mega store on Wellington. This store is good, but not great. It's limited in stock because of it's size and that's mainly my reason for the rating. Prices are OK, (would like to see more multi-fish discounts). However when the specials are on there is always a good deal to be had. They carry a good selection of food and water treatments as well. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly for the most part. The owner/manager really knows his stuff and is my goto for questions when he's around. Overall I will continue to support this store but would love to see it in a bigger footprint and carry more species of fish.

I had Paul and his team from Big Al's move ! large 180 gallon tank and a few small ones (10-40 gallon), unfortunately the movers cracked the tank. This review is five star because Paul had a new 180 tank ordered within an hour AND I was able to get the whole move done within about 4 hours. I lost only 2 baby fish out of about 300 and they were on their way out anyway. Great price, great service, great example of taking responsibility for one's work. I really can't say enough about Aaron and Paul. Thanks guys.

Not a great selection of fish. Lots of "not for sale" signs on their tanks all the time. Either they need a better supplier of healthy fish, or they need to take better care of them in store. I also don't like that they put all their shrimp colours together in the same tank. I realize they don't have a lot of space, but I'm sure they can divide a tank or two, like other Big Al's stores do.

This is by far my favorite store for fish supplies. The prices are reasonable, maybe a little higher than your typical big box stores, but overall the quality of service makes it worth it. The quality of the fish has dropped dramatically, the choices of in-store aquariums are priced too high - they pressure you to buy a package or wait. As many have stated the "new store" at commissioners and adelade has a young staff who seemed to be more interesting in having fun and flirting with each other than serving the customers. I was viewing the tanks while 3 staff members laughed and joked at the front . Not a big deal but when a women with her small child asked for help and was told "in a minute" and then giggles were heard from the group I knew this was not the old "Big Als" and I would not be returning. I eventually came over a couple of isles to help because I had heard the question the child was asking and had some knowledge of the species. Eventually a staff member came to the back still laughing from whatever was so funny and treated us like we were interrupting the fun. Never go back

Never Recommend to visit this store. I bought 5gallon tank with two fishes and other decor stuff as a gift for someone. But the tank was damaged from bottom and top cover as well. Called store and visited them next day . Manager said he will give a new one but after 6 days not before that. Didnot provide any goodwill service for the pet fishes for those 6 days . I had to bought extra Bowl for 20$ for six days before i recievw tank. Its better to Visit Southwest pet store. They provide best service .....

Prices for Aqua Clear filter products such as the sponges and charcoal are the best prices around. $2.00 less than their competitors. Tony and staff are knowledgeable and helpful. UPDATE: My issue was resolved quickly with the utmost professionalism. couldn't be more happy most companies wouldn't go out of their way like this. Poor customer service. manager is a know it all and degrading to other people in the hobby. Also I bought 4 neon tetras there and they had ick now one of my tanks is sick. I bet if they see this they wont do anything about it.

Haven’t had an aquarium since I was a kid so I wanted to do it right and give my new GloFish a happy and healthy fishy life! Went on a Boxing Day sale and Everyone was super nice!! Even though they were super busy they took their time to answer my questions and explain to me how to get my tank started right. HUGE SELECTION and the prices were very fair and comparable to the chains and even better with the Boxing Day sale! Highly recommend the big als brand water additives as well!! They’re simple and easy to use for beginners with small tanks like me or a go to for advanced enthusiasts!! They also had a big selection of fish and I ended up getting my three GloFish there. The price was better then at petsmart! (Even without the sale). Kimberly, Billy and Tommy are doing good thanks to their help!

This is by far the best pet store. Basically anything you will need for an aquarium. You can guarantee that the staff will be able to answer any questions you may have & clearly know what they are talking about. The wonderful staff here all have their own aquariums & know their stuff. Don't forget to stop & say hello to their large "bath" of giant red eared turtles, or their spectacular salt water tank at the very back of the store. Best place for feeder fish too- avoid Petsmart their own employees will recommend Big Al's!

Do not shop here.. But if you choose to do so; make sure you get a receipt for every transaction. Whether it be a purchase or an exchange to make sure you don't get ripped off. Also if you are doing a curb side pick up double check your purchase before you leave or else you may get a rotting plant or fish that are dying. I suggest going to southwest pet, pet paradise or sustainable marine for your fish needs or order online. I believe in supporting local businesses but there are other local businesses other than this one that are more deserving of your loyalty and patronage.

When I walked in I was shocked how small this big Al's was compared to the location in Kitchener. They have alot of treatments,fish food, small backroom with maybe 80 tanks. Not to much variety in new aquariums and stands. Reptile equipment next to none. If your looking for basic great place.

Best fish store experience in London. Have a great selection of both fresh and saltwater fish. They have a small selection of coral. Best option for fish if you want to avoid PerSmart. My son loves going and just wandering around looking at the displays. They have a nice turtle set up, I large African Cichlid tank, I huge saltwater display tank and often others set up like a planted tank display.

As a new enthusiast to aquarium's and fish keeping I tend to trust Big Al's the most for buying livestock, general knowledge of up keeping aquarium's and the testing. Since I have begun this hobby I have had bad luck with ick and many deaths. I was finding buying fish from big box stores they tend to be stressed or sick where at Big Al's the fish were healthy and lively from the start. I have not had any issues with any fish, in fact they are breeding! As a beginner I have many questions for the proper care of my aquarium. Everytime I have come in, sometimes multiple times a week, they always take the time to answer all of my questions. All of the advice has helped cycle my aquarium properly, keep my fish happy/alive, and teach me new skills. As for the testing, I admit going to other places are free as well and some offer coupons on the test sheet. But what I noticed is that other places dont completely check everything and can miss deadly things like Nitrites, where at Big Al's they take the proper time to test your water and give you the best advice on how to solve the issues at hand. Great job everyone! Tony has incredible skills when it comes to aquarium's and fish! The rest of the staff are equally friendly and try to help you as best they can. I understand it gets busy and everyone is always needing to be elsewhere but when you see a business always busy it usually means they are good. You guys definitely have my loyalty! I highly recommend going here! They also offer a points card which is always nice.

I'm really upset about our experience today. I came in with my two kids and husband so my kids could each pick a fish for our tank and were told that only 2 of us could come in. I said Okay, i can come in with my daughter and my husband and son could come in when we left and were told we couldn't do that because he knew we were a family. I said i would go in with my daughter, my husband and son would wait in the truck and get back in line when we came back out and were again told no. We were eventually allowed in separately after argueing and telling him i couldn't buy a fish for my son and not for my daughter. It is also worth mentioning that there was no line at any point during our experience. We were the only ones outside waiting. We can't make it during the week and today was the only weekend day that worked for us for quite a while and we were excited to surprise our kids. We felt very rushed, our experience was awful and we ended up with fish that we didn't overly want because my husband was very flustered and wanted in and out asap. We will now be going to Bobby G's (which we didn't know about prior to todays experience) and won't step foot again in Big Al's. There is no logical reasoning behind a rule of no more than 2 people from a family for the day on weekends, especially when we offered to go in separately with the other 2 moving to the back of the line IF one ended up forming. Thank you for ruining our fun experience with our kids during an already difficult time and good luck surviving the pandemic when you're literally turning away customers and refusing money.

The store is smaller than the other Big Al's stores and with very limited selection. However, the staff are a pleasure to talk to, and the service is impeccable. The store is clean and the fish I bought from there, as well as the plants, are healthy as ever!! A product was recommended to me by a guy there ( I would give him credit, butI forgot his name lol; he has a lot of tattoos) and at first I thought it was an attempt to up-sell me things, but I soon found out that the product did exactly what he said it would do, and I couldn't be more grateful. Zero stars for Big Als in London, ON. What a waste of a store. I don't know why this specific Big Als even exists. Would not recommend. When I visited the store, they had next to no selection for fish, fresh or marine. What fish they did have looked sick and miserable to me. Dry goods were sparse. Shelves were half empty and over priced. I live in Waterloo, ON and the Big Als here is much larger, much more selection on dry goods, and way bigger selection on fresh or marine fish. Even their coral selection in Waterloo is 10x the amount then London.

They do not purchase their fish from local breeders they're all farmed out of country and our honestly garbage quality look at other peoples comments half the tanks have not for sale written on them seems like they cater to little kitty fish you know the ones the kid looks at and thinks school and need to 5 gallon tank at home as for their Turtles horrendous care the turtles have a bacterial infection in their shells they should not be anywhere where customers potentially can come into contact with them take your turtles to a vet or better yet give them to somebody who knows what they're doing this store for anyone who's not in the know might as well be Walmart

We've been customers here for over a year now. The in-store service is always friendly and reasonably prompt. The knowledge of the staff is exemplary! They know their products and livestock intimately and have consistently helped me to keep our tank at home in great shape. The only complaint I have is that on two occasions the information I received over the phone was different from what I learned in the store. I don't believe it was deliberate misinformation in either case, but ignorance or misunderstanding. Considering how often we've been in, these two circumstances hardly affect how I view this establishment. Keep up the good work folks!
