Looking at the reviews we decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly. The place smelled very bad like pee and mould. The interior and exterior could really use update / cleaning. The bathroom was very unclean. The food wasn’t good at all the fries were oil soaked and not cooked enough onions rings were so over done. The fish we ordered was cod pollock and halibut the portion seemed good but it was not cooked well at all just oil soaked we didn’t get any cold slaw with the meals I would not recommend and won’t be returning I can’t understand how this place has so many good reviews

My family and i get our Good Friday fish & chips from here every year. We’ve waited almost 2 hours before! But let me tell you, it’s entirely worth it. The fish is always cooks perfectly, and the fries are delicious !! This year we waited a little later to go order and we only waited 25 minutes! Anyone who participates in going here every Good Friday knows that’s an awesome wait time (haha) I’ll always recommend this place to friends when they ask for a good fish & chop place in Kitchener! I rarely ever write reviews but this time I had to. Hands down the best fish and chips in Kitchener! Great service from friendly staff. The fish and chips are just like I remember in England. The mushie peas were just like my Grandma made. This little gem doesn't look like much on the outside, but you can't judge this book by its cover...sit down for a plate of the best in town and you will be back again soon!

Service and ordering was quick. Ordered the haddock family pack, onion rings, and a large gravy. Haddock batter was interesting, slightly sweet. Fish was okay, but there was some hard bits that couldn't be chewed in it. Fries were okay, cooked nicely, and crispy. Coleslaw was just diced cabbage, vinegar, and sugar... meh Gravy was the powdered variety, average. Onion rings were tiny and tasted burnt.

Got some food to go and let me tell you what a disappointment. This was the first time I have ever been here and the quality of the food really put a damper on my experience. First of all the fries were absolutely horrendous. They were stale and obviously had just been heated up and put in a box. Instead of actual fries it was the bottom of the barrel pieces. Aside from that the fish was nothing better. It was greasy and there was not much fish more than there was batter. I was extremely disappointed especially this being my first visit.

It's a cash only place. No credit or debit cards. That sucks. Imagine you go with your family and someone is hungrier than you have in your wallet... Well, I guess you will end up on McDonalds or Tim Hortons. If they do not care about their customers comfort, I do not care about them either. I was a first time customer last year on Good Friday and based on the quality and experience I had I will not be returning. Firstly, they have an extremely small parking lot which was difficult to navigate when people were constantly entering and leaving the lot, the inside of the restaurant wasn't any bigger. It was extremely cramped, especially on Good Friday and anyone who entered didn't know who was served, let alone where the line formed (no staff member directed or instructed customers). The interior appeared very outdated and dirty. On Good Friday, you couldn't order any certain things on their regular menu as they only had a special menu for the holiday which is fish (very few types of fish) and chips. Once we receive our order, we were shocked at the quantity of the food we were given for the price we paid. The fish was small and not the typical size we were accustomed to and the fries was sparse.....to say the least. I will not be returning as I know there are other shops that serve great quality fish and chips

Fresh and delicious! Not lisenced so no beer with the meal but the price and quality of the food was a above par. Simple decor does not offer much for a romantic dinner but its cozy and if you desire a place to enjoy a conversation with your company this location suits that perfectly. Over all I give it the 4 star for the quality of the food, food portion, and service was great with smiles and attentiveness though out the meal. Wow, simply fantastic! We tried this place Friday night and got: 2 orders of Haddock and Chips, order of Mushy peas and large coleslaw. The Haddock was very tasty and the chips were good as well. Mushy peas were also really tasty and the coleslaw was pretty good too. The biggest thing for me is the price point and quality. This place has both. Beats out all other fish and chips restaurants in KW when it comes to this. This will be our new Fish and Chip place going forward.

We t here for lunch and got the 2pc Cod and Chips ($10 lunch special) because my family raves about it. Service was great but it definitely wasn’t worth all the rave reviews. Fish portions were relatively small and was about a 6/10 on the scale as well as the chips. Not saying it was bad but I’ve had better local fish and chips and Sonny’s or Caz’s in Cambridge. I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

I was a little bit skeptical but decided to give it a try, the fish was well fried and tender, and the ratio of batter to fish was perfect for me, a thin coating. The fries were decent, and the attendant was very courteous. I will return to this location.

I ordered the seafood platter it came with a very very tiny piece of fish that they called halibut but it was not I don't know what it was gave me three shrimp four balls of fish of some sort that were terrible and some french fries and they charged me $20 I told the man that was not sufficient and I wanted a refund he refused thought I had to take it home and try to eat it it tasted terrible I took two bites and threw it away this is the worst fish and chip place I've ever seen in my entire life these guys are nothing but rip-off artist I don't know why they have reviews that are more than one star cuz they don't deserve it don't waste your money the food is garbage

The owners seem friendly and welcoming however I must emphasize the following: - Good reviews are perplexing/baseless - Food arrived quick but was very bitter and slightly overpriced, tasted like the oil was being reused for too long - Dining area very dirty along with the washroom and also the cups of water provided - Wouldnt recommend going here after dark since there's only 1 light bulb in each fixture, might get too sketchy.

My first trip to King Fish & Chips. Small parking lot at the rear had a few spots left at 12:30. The Owner suggested the Lunch Special which was $5.69 and included 2 pieces of fish, French fries, cole slaw and a slice of lemon. It was served quickly and was hot. The fish was plentiful and very flaky and tasty. French fries were great as was the cole slaw. The meal was huge, really enough for a full dinner and delicious too. There were about 6 others there, looked like 'Regulars' and I can see why. Several people stopped in for take-outs. Comfortable surroundings in a basic way. I have never had such a filling and tasty meal for such a low price. Totally amazing and I will certainly return.

My wife and I really enjoyed the fish and chips, and being British I was quite pleased they had mushy peas (Brits will know what I'm talking about) which we ordered and also enjoyed, A great fish and chips restaurant in downtown Kitchener.

Was so looking forward to getting dinner here, based on the rave reviews. Maybe going on Good Friday was a poor choice, but we were thoroughly unimpressed. The halibut came in two 2oz pieces, the coleslaw was pretty much just shredded cabbage with the merest bit of dressing on it, and the gravy was a cold, congealed glob. There's no way it could have been given to me hot, and it became that way during the 10 minutes it took me to get home. On the plus side,the halibut was cooked perfectly and was tasty, and the fries were good. The two young ladies taking and bringing out orders were friendly and polite. Everything else, including the 30minute wait for takeout, was awful. We'll probably give it another try, but they've got a big hole to dig themselves out of.

We arrived 15 min before close. We got the end of the fries. Unimpressive. The portions were generous a and the price,$7.69, was excellent. That was for the Pollock . Cod and haddock are a little more but still reasonable. Even at that price the fish was quite tasty

I had fish and chips takeout and the fish was hot and crisp and the fries were plentiful, but not as crisp as I'd like. I called in advance and arrived at the agreed time but the owner was overly optimistic in his assessment of how long it would take so I waited for another 15+ minutes. The owner is doing too many things at once which is making his COVID precautions less effective - he wears a mask but takes it off to answer the phone, which rang frequently, and he was packing bags but he was in the kitchen so briefly it didn't seem possible he was washing his hands after every time he touched his mask.

I'm not sure who posts these reviews but our experience at King Fish and Chips was not positive. After reading all the positive reviews we thought we would try this restaurant. Neither the exterior or interior are anything special but we though the food would be good. So wrong. My single piece of haddock was probably originally the size of a quarter. Covered with lots of batter and extremely thin. The plate was covered with average tasting fries which made the portion look quite large. Will never return or recommend this place. Gross.

Over 3 years ago: An older friend in his 70s would drive 3 days a week from out of town for fish& chips. The fish and chips are excellent with large portions. Fish aren't oily like so many and hot with large portions. Family run business they watch what they are doing carefully compared to fast food restaurants.

Fast and fresh seafood for insanely good prices. The dining room is cozy with limited seating, but their to-go service is just as speedy as sit-down. My husband got the fried cod (they offer 3 different kinds of fish) and I ordered the shrimp and chips. Parking is also a bit limited, but you shouldn't have too much trouble finding walkable parking nearby.

This Fish and Chips restaurant is by far the worst Fish and Chips restaurant I've eaten at. Save your money and heart and go elsewhere. The amount of fatty oil and thick batter are massive. I'd rather eat at a food truck than at King Fish and Chips. I felt like I was getting a heart attack after eating their Fish and Chips. I will never come back again even if it's free Fish and Chips.
