Produce is moldy in under 24 hours. Meat is rancid within a day or 2. Do not buy from this place. The reason their prices are so low is because the items are end of life. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else ***EDIT after owner reply*** note that this has happened more than once. Bought stuff on a Saturday evening. It was bad the the next morning in the fridge. Called Monday morning to get it exchanged or refunded and was told that they are closed Sunday's and it's past the 24 hour return policy that they have and they won't do anything

When the original Dutchie's opened on Erb St. in Waterloo it was always worth the drive from Kitchener. Now that there is a location within half a kilometre from my place I do most of my grocery shopping there. The quality of the fruit vegetables, and meats is excellent and the prices are reasonable, in fact, ever since they opened, I find myself cooking more at home than before! Their takeaway salads and cut fruit are a good, healthy, and convenient option for lunch. Every time I have been there the staff is friendly and attentive. Definitely encourage people to give them a try and at the same time support a local business.

I used to come to this location often but their meat department is extremely slow. Lately when I've come in, the meat line up is so backed up (10+ people) that I walk right back out. I recommend training staff to be more efficient cutting Deli as well, most seem too scared to operate or lack training to use the slicer and for someone with health and safety management experience, I see this as a big safety concern. I find the Deli also spoils sooner than other stores.

Probably best to get there early, if one is after fresh meat cuts "on sale" 2nd visit here mid-late afternoon, again sale items were gone. On top of that service at the meat counter was so slow today, after waiting 15min I just gave up on other selections and went to Central, where btw got the meat I wanted for roughly same price and without waiting.

Someone else in another review below likened this place to a Soviet store with little selection, dour unfriendly people, and no ambiance. They hit the nail on the head. The selection here is poor and tends to be potatoes, cabbage, and the odd snack food. I don’t eat meat so I can’t comment on their selection but it appears that most people come here for that so maybe that’s the standout. The staff generally are unfriendly and don’t even make eye contact. They choose to not open on Sundays which personally for a grocery store is a bit annoying....I prefer my groceries without religious affiliation. This place is not the grocery store I was hoping for on the east side of Kitchener. If you need meat or very large discounted sacks of potatoes, this might be the place for you otherwise I can’t recommend it.

Today was my first time going to Dutchie's. Absolutely terrible customer service. I was there at 4pm on a wednesday (which any person who knows how to run a store would realize that is prime time for after work shopperz) and as I walked in I noticed a line up at the meat counter. 1st I was disgusted to find out that I had to take a number that was re-usable. Normally that would be fine but with Covid, it disgusts me. Who knows if they clean those individually properly every night. Secondly as I took my number 3 of the 4 people that were standing behind the meat counter walked away and left only one person there to handle the 7 people waiting to be served. After asking if anyone else was going to be coming out to help the person who was working at the meat counter told me that he wasn't sure as it was his 2nd day. I do not blame him at all. There is absolutely no reason why somebody on their 2nd day is left alone with a line up of 7 people. I will never go there again and let everyone I know how bad of an experience I had. Inexcusable and I feel bad for the lone employee who on his 2nd day was left to fend for himself.

Although the meat counter was slow with only 2 staff members working it, the meat itself was beautifully fresh! I'm impressed for a small location! It was my first time shopping at this location after coming from Cambridge. I'm happy with the produce being fresh, however on a sale day start you should have someone restocking immediately what you are out of! There were no blueberries and a few other items. The store was exceptionally busy and has good sanitization practices. Hand sanitizer in place as you come in and stickers on the floor to safe distance. My family will be back again to buy our monthly fresh butcher meat supply!

I used to love dutchies for the meat counter, the quality and price was very good. Two days ago I bought 4lbs of lean ground beef for $32. I got it home divided it up and stuck it in my freezer. Today I fried some up and broke a tooth on a bone chip, there seems to be a lot of bone in the ground beef. Needless to say, I don't want another broken tooth so I threw out the beef. The price went up and the quality went down. I guess I'm going to go back to shopping at zehrs.

I'll start by saying that I can't speak to the quality of the food because I didn't end up buying anything. I had an issue with the cashier that resulted in me leaving without making a purchase. I e mailed the company to report and discuss the issue and have not heard back. It has been weeks and I expect that I won't hear back at all. Given that, I likely won't be back. It's not worth the hassle and they clearly aren't concerned with solving the issue.

Dutchie's kitchener does NOT open at 8am, but rather at 9am. After waiting for them to open, I went in to the meat counter, and waited to be served. Two staff were working behind the counter, neither one would acknowledge that we were waiting to be served. After about 5 mins, the man looked up and asked the man waiting in line behind me if he needed assistance, literally looking right through me. I'm not sure what he thought; a woman standing there for 5 mins with two young children is clearly not just browsing. So Kitchener Dutchie's, you can keep your cheap meat. Your rude, ignorant meat counter staff will ensure a bad reputation for your store

They have some fantastic sales here and really nice produce. The Scottish bakery goods are delicious and convenient too. I wish they'd reorganize the layout. The isle for the meat is the same for the line to cash out. They don't have the conveyer belt or a lot of counter space to put down your purchases. It can take quite a while to ring out your groceries. Plus you're always shifting out of people's way to get by. I understand they took over quickly from the previous store but if they're staying, which I hope they are, some reorganizing work needs to be done.

Buyer beware the Kitchener location. Bought a cross rib roast, only 3 available to choose from on the first day of the sale. 1.5 kg in size of which at LEAST .5 was fat. Sale price not so good when you cut off the fat. And meat not that good. I will NOT shop there again.

I shopped Dutchies every month for my meat. I have never been so discusted as i was last month. I purchaded lean ground beef for dinner and enough left over for the month. While i was cooking it it had a smell that was off. I thought it could have just been me. When it was cooked it tasted all right. The left over meat was refigerated till the next day. When it was taken out of the fridge it was brown and stunk like a dead animal. I am not sure if anyone else has had this experience before. 1 experience for me, means i will never go back not only because the loss of money but also for the simple reason of risking saminila poisining .

Like this location much better than location on Erb. Having the meat counter make for a way better exprience for those living on their own like me, as it's nice to be able to get one of (ie One Chicken Breast) instead of big bulk packs. Meat quality is fantastic for the price. One of the two independant grocers in the KW, which makes nice to be able to shop local, instead of WaImart or Walmart Jr (AKA any of the Loblaw's Banner). My sincere hope is they can take the concept and transfer to Erb location, which is in need of serious attention. I also find the staff to be friendlier here.

This store is going down the drain really fast. Bought back ribs and lean ground beef. There was so much fat in the meat. See the pictures below after I cooking 2 lbs of lean ground. There was an inch of fat after I drained the meat. I normally buy extra lean. Never had that much fat in learn ground beef. Looks like this is regular ground sold as lean. The back ribs were also very fatty. The fruit and veggies are left to be desired. The salads in the bags are soggy and bad. How can you sell that to the public? It's not right! Won't ever go there again. Also watch your merchandise as it goes through the checkout to make sure you're charged the right amount for the item you buy. So disappointed!

Cheap meat - Cheap service! I like this place but 25 people waiting for meat and only 1 person serving 1 person every 5 min. Feels like a Communist Russian grocery line. Sorry but my time is more valuable than that. It's ridiculously slow to get meat here. I had #92 and they were calling #68. Absurd for a Saturday at noon to have 1 person on staff while other staff were walking around doing nothing! One on cashier with 10 people in line for that too. Sorry but this Dutchies is managed by a moron!

Went to this store for the 1st time. It's nice and big which is nice. Meat counters are good however there are no prepackaged selections like the other store. Service was slow, no one at check out. I shop by price so it would be nice to have both options. Counter or just pick up a package. No samples, the other store always have fruit and cooked meat to try. This location also has tiny schnitzel, Erb is better size.

Disappointed in this store. It is vaguely grungy and unkempt. Prices are decent but today much 9f the produce seemed limp and bruised. Only one cheerful young man serving customers on the meat counter meant lengthy delays . On my one cashier at 11 a.m. meant long line ups. Prefer their Waterloo location.

An older fellow working at the butcher counter has had his nose hanging out the past couple times I've been there whereas the other staff all wear their masks properly. Lineups at the meat counter can definitely be an issue - it would be nice to have some more common items already packed. Great prices if you're conscientious about cooking or freezing sale items quickly.

From rotten fruit, to meat expiring in two days, to them not implementing masks, to my 7 year old daughter needing her tooth reconstructed because of a huge chunk of bone in a breakfast sausage. I will never shop here again. Neither will my friends and family. I did try to message them about the issues we have had with them over the last month, they offered me a refund for the rotten raspberries they sold me. But my second message about the rotted out mangos and their employees not implementing masks, they did not offer any solution. To my message about my daughters tooth being chipped by the bone chunk in the breakfast sausage, they completely ignored my message. I am not about blasting a company without trying to resolve the issue privately first. But Dutchies did not seem interested to do so. Please be careful if you choose to continue to shop here.

I’ve gone to David’s Gourmet the entire time I’ve worked on Victoria St, and I’ve always visited the deli for fresh, GOURMET sandwiches, the new selection is a stripped down version of Subway. I have nothing against the grocer side of Dutchie’s but the deli is subpar. No prosciutto, no antipasto sauce, reduced bun selection, no special cheeses. Needless to say, I won’t be returning after my experience this time. It was a good five years while it lasted.

The bread and dairy sections are small, basically just two major departments at this store: - fresh meat, which is where you see most of the customers when it's busy, so that's obviously the main draw for repeat customers. - produce, where you should adjust your expectations of how fresh it is or how long it has been in transit according to what percentage it is of the regular price at other stores. If it is marked down far below the average retail, particularly with berries, green beans, grapes, it may not last long, should be either used quickly or frozen. But that's true at other stores as well. Apples at 99¢/lb are typically good quality and in bulk dislays, loose, so you can choose your own. 49¢/lb apples may have a lot of wax on them or otherwise be less than optimal. One of the few places left that sell cabbage by the head rather than by weight, typically for a lower cost than when sold by weight. Milk dropped in price, four litre 2% now $4.99.

This store is hit or miss. I've had fruit and veggies go bad in just a couple days especially in the summer months. Might be a good price but if it's going to go bad within a day or two then it wasn't much of a savings! Produce prices are usually good but you do have to be picky. Prices are much higher than a typical grocery store for eggs, milk, salad kits etc etc. Chicken breasts are huge and usually a great price. Good variety of meat at the meat counter with daily specials. The meat counter can get backed up when it's busy. Can be a very long wait for your turn at times! However for convenience it's great, staff at checkouts are always friendly and cheerful and periodically they give away stuff like bagged salad for free to anyone checking out. Some days I'd give 5 stars and some days 2 stars!

Store seems very clean, and staff was pleasant. There is no selection of packaged meats, so you must wait until a butcher can serve you. Some prices seemed expensive, but others were very low. They had boneless chicken breast on sale, and not only was it really cheap, it was really good! I would have given it four stars, but they don't accept credit cards, which is irritating if you are planning on paying with a credit card. Perhaps this is temporary, during the Covid-19 shutdown?
