Delicious! Fresh crispy fries, tender and crispy fish (that's not greasy at all!). Had a fish sandwich which came with a very nice sauce and a tomatillo which added a nice acidity and sweetness. The services was great - I got the very last table at the restaurant and they were gracious enough to reseat me after a couple of other better tables opened up. Will definitely be back to try more of the amazing food!

Can't believe I hadn't tried it sooner. I mistakenly thought it was exclusively seafood, when it has a wide variety of foods. The burger was probably the best in the city. Prices are reasonable and good service. It may become the new go to spot for us.

We ordered delivery: they forgot one order of fish and chips and said they didn’t have the staff to bring it. The “fish chowder” is a very thin soup full of large pieces of potato and barely anything resembling fish. The $8 cup of this was tiny! The fish cakes were also chock full of large pieces of potato making for a very strange and unpleasant texture for a fish cake. These also had a distinct lack of seasoning making them very bland and inedible. I am giving 3 stars because the one order of fish and chips that we received were decent. Also, the fish taco was soggy but good. It was a very expensive meal without much enjoyment.

Wow! Not only is the food delicious but the customer service is outstanding. We placed our order through skip the dishes and when it arrived, it was missing 2 kids chicken strip meals. We called and Chris went out of his way to ensure we not only got our chicken strip for the kiddos, he even included a special note to apologize for the mix up. This was unnecessary but completely appreciated. What outstanding customer service. Thank you very much! We will absolutely be back.

Ordering over the phone went well. The customer service rep was patient and very capable. Upon pickup the staff were friendly and efficient. As for the food, I got the Rhode Island calamari and pepper rings; likely not the best dish for take out as it was dry and rubbery, likely because it wasn’t very warm by the time we ate. The flavours were on point as far as seasoning goes. Wasn’t fond of the dipping sauce...very mayo forward. The entree I chose was the Branzino and the fish was cooked perfectly as was the broccolini. The chick pea/almond side dish was terrible though. My wife got the smokehouse platter and said it was “good” but nothing special. Cornbread/garlic roll that came with it was amazing. Beans were delicious. We also got the Dianne’s burger and my daughter said it was delicious. Fries are very good. The children’s chicken fingers and fries were “yummy” and macaroni and cheese was great. Overall it was disappointing but I will reserve final judgement until I’ve had the fish and chips. Price was 150 dollars which I feel wasn’t well spent.

Not sure what the hype here is. The food is ok. The service ok. But there prices are a little high maybe about a 20% premium. The tuna poke isn't bad. Though a bit saltier. The tacos are good, but the taco shells were harder/dry. Overall, ok. Could be better.

As our mains we ordered the Steamed PEI Mussels in a white wine tomato sauce and the Taco Plate. The mussels were very tender and fresh tasting. I liked how the sauce was light, which allowed me to still enjoy the mussel flavour. For the tacos, I chose the BBQ Brisket and Beer Battered Baja Fish Tacos. The lunch combo also comes with a side of fries. The baja fish tacos were a bit bland, however I enjoyed the nice texture of the fish and the crispy batter. The brisket taco was phenomenal. I really loved the juice running from the meat and the spices made it really delicious.

Overall, a fairly pleasant dining experience with an eclectic dinner menu. The classic calamari is however less then impressive as the rings are both thinly cut and heavily breaded/ battered, I would have rather seen a grilled option to insert some freshness to a fairly heavy feeling appetizer menu offering . The oysters were very fresh and served with yummy sauces and fresh horseradish. The fish tacos were tasty but as with the calamari, the breading on the fish was thick and greasy. The ceviche was excellent in flavour but lacked in the portion size of fresh fish to justify the overall price per plate. As with many restaurants during Covid, Dianne’s has had at to adapt to the increasing demand for patio dining. Unfortunately, the make shift patio extension across the road ( and occupying parking spaces) leaves more to be desired from the overall experience. As it was starting to rain… we were not given the option to seek shelter at another table.

My first time here and unfortunately having to go take out with our current environment. Called in to order and it's nice to talk with a person to order, especially when they are so helpful and friendly, making ordering a breeze. Arrived at my pick up time to hot and ready food, again with great service. I look forward to the day we can eat in again - the restaurant looked like it would have a great atmosphere. Got home to eat and I have to say, that from Diane's Down East Fish Chowder, through the Loaded Gumbo Skillet, there wasn't much room left for that really tasty Hello Dolly Square! The food was great and I will be back! Thanks for supper!

Came here last night for a late dinner. It was super busy everywhere and luckily we were able to get a table. I ordered the fish sammie with a margarita and it was great! The portions were good and the service was quick. The only thing though, I asked for no tomatoes and they forgot, I didn’t bother asking for a new one because I was hungry. Would come again to try something different.

Go for drinks and oysters (great selection of both and at good prices too)! The patio is in a great location. There are many good dishes on the menu (everyone I was with was pleased with their choices) but I would skip the tacos next time, crumbly and lacking in flavour.

Had a few drinks outside on their patio among the heaters. I was with my parents who were nervous to be indoors and they loved the atmosphere. We ended up staying a lot longer than planned. The heaters kept it really warm. Great experience!!

Staff were incredibly friendly. Very attentive, informative of the menu, and kept our water constantly filled. Excellent staff. Food was good. My partner had the haddock fish and chips, which was very good. Soft, moist, tasty tartar sauce, and presented nicely on faux newspaper for great aesthetic. My soup was really tasty! Huge chunks of fish and potatoes in it. My salmon sandwich was not so great. The smokey smell was overpowering and made me cough a bit. The sauce they used completely soaked through the bottom bun and made it an absolutely soggy mess and not fun to eat. The salmon was also a bit dry. My whole lunch (soup and sandwich) was $18 with tax and tip; I didn't order any drinks.

Delicious seafood is available at this spot near the docks for both dining-in and takeout. The haddock and shrimp with chips comes in generously-sized portions with coleslaw, housemade ketchup and tartar sauce on the side. Prices are great and the views are spectacular across the water - definitely worth stopping by if you're in town!

I can't recall the last time I've return a dish but unfortunately I returned the fish and chips here. Main reason was the fish was uncomfortably salty on the tongue. Secondarily the fries where frozen or at least they weren't hand cut which is sort of an expectation. Also I wasn't a fan of the "beer batter" execution. The appearance and texture of the batter was more like that of frozen but the manager assured me this was hand dipped. Having said that the fish itself was quality. Continuing on in the positive note, the Tuna Tostada was very nice. My GF's Pan seared pickeral was nice. The classic seafood restaurant bun was a nice touch. My fall back mussels in coconut curry broth were also nice. McKinnon Bros on tap! Staff / service was great. You can tell it's a well run establishment. Jury still out on whether or not I'd return.

I visited there with my family and friend during weekend and I ordered fish and chips and chicken tacos. Fish & Chips was unbelievably tasty and great. It was so good that next day when we were passing by the place I couldn't resist myself from having one again. The staff are also very courteous and supporting. However, the tacos was not at all good and I couldn't even finish what I ordered. The overall experience was good. Must recommend Fish & Chips at this place.

Had our first Patio Dining experience after restrictions were lifted. The food was tasty, and the staff were very friendly. They accommodated our dietary restrictions and substituted the fried fish with a grilled alternative. The Grilled Branzino was the right choice for me. This was our first dining experience in Kingston, we’re definitely going back!

Didn't really expect the quality of their food but after seeing other reviews and pictures I was convinced to try it out. Right by the get go you can tell they have excellent customer service just by how they greeted us when we came to pick up our order. The icing on the cake however is when they forgot to include one mexican corn to our order, instead of cooking just one, they gave us a free one to go because of the miscommunication. Simple things like that really differentiates good customer service to an excellent one. Will definitely recommend to everyone.

Let me start by saying that the waitress was very nice and friendly, however the food as far as the fish tacos and the chicken tacos lack flavor big time the clam chowder soup lack flavor big time it’s like they added no seasoning whatsoever on their foods, it was not impressed with the food whatsoever prices weren’t the best either specially for what you got only thing that was half decent that we had out of all five of us were the order of fries that I got had a nice little Mexican flavor twist to them but that was it. I forgot to take photos of the food when it arrived so I apologize for that brought home two tacos just to season them up and eat them at home. Would not go back again.

I used to love Dianne's for the amazing food, but lately they've changed a bit and the food isn't as good as it used to be, especially the tacos. They also made them almost double the price they used to be. Basically they put so much sauce that it feels like you're just eating a tortilla stuffed with just sauce. The recipe has changed several times over the last few years so taste isn't consistent. Great location otherwise, also very nice setting and service.

We stopped in to Dianne’s for lunch on a weekend away from the city. We opted for the fish and chips and substituted regular “chips” for the dirty fries with blackened shrimp. A great move! The shrimp was well cooked, but being labeled as blackened I feel they could have used a bit more of a kick! The fries were a fun little taste explosion on a standard side dish. However, the star of the show had to be the fish. The batter was light, but present. It didn’t take away from the fish at all. If you go there make somebody get it! It is a cool little spot with great service!

This place would be a 5 if it wasn't for the price. The smoked trout sandwich was awesome but at $19 for a sandwich that is way over the top. That's about as expensive as a an ahi tuna sandwich I got in Napa valley... The chowder was a little cream heavy but generally good.

I'd passed Diane's last time we visited Kingston and wondered if it was as good as it sounded; seafood and a smokehouse! Thankfully we managed to make it for lunch this time and I can happily report it is as good as it sounds. Excellent seafood, ranging from poke, oysters, fish and chips, mussels and prawns and lobster rolls, with a decent selection of slow-cooked meats; chicken tinga, pulled pork and 12 hour brisket in either tacos or sandwiches. Everything we tried was wonderful and the staff were so good, they obviously enjoy working there. A must try if you're in Kingston.

Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon for the 2 piece fish and chips. The place was clean, service was good, and the fish was exceptional. The batter is light with a slight hint of a Mexican type spice or something like that. Just a light hint that gives it an extra kick. Very tasty! The fries were very very average. Absolutely nothing special and they don't have gravy. The the story here is the fish and it taste really great... solid 9/10. I would return for the fish, not the fries though. ????

Went here for an early dinner , I gotta say the the server we had was amazing, attentive without being overly so, and had such a happy disposition. Now the food was totally yummy. My friend had the tuna poke, and the seafood chowder. She thoroughly enjoyed both. Now I was hungry that day so I had the fish cakes which were fantastic, followed by the Brussels sprouts ( beware ,you get a lot ), and of course the fish and chips were just so delicious. Wish I could remember the name of our server, to give her the cudo s she so deserves. Keep up the great work!!!

It was our first time dining here, we have passed by the place a million times and thought we would finally try it out. We really enjoyed ourselves, our meals seemed to be ready minutes after having our order taken which was really nice. The food was very hot but also very delicious, you can't go wrong with the fish and chips! Our server was super friendly and topped up our drinks multiple times. Overall we had a great experience and we will definitely be back!

The only thing I had prob with was that they served their ice-cream with super market packaging! At least put them in a vase or bowl! A bit more classy, isn't?!

We were seated right away. Place is not big but cozy. Music is not too loud which is nice so you can still carry on conversations. Staff is nice although sometimes a bit forgetful. Food is good. We ordered 3 soup and sandwich lunch meals. Soup was fish chowder and really tasty. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich but ended up exchanging with my husband’s trout sandwich because the pulled pork was a bit spicy for my taste. We are now having the hello dolly with vanilla ice cream and the chocolate mint mousse for dessert. Both okay. Too bad they don’t carry the chocolate cheesecake that they have on the dessert menu.

Considering the long line up and witnessing many people place take out orders, I was very disappointed with this restaurant! My cocktail was poorly made (too sour, I had to add water and sugar to balance out the flavour) The fish chowder was served lukewarm, watered down and had no seasoning (not even salt). The Mexican corn and fish and chips were okay, but the fish portions are very small so be prepared for that. 2 stars because the server Karly did a great job! But the food is below average, sorry.

Came here for dine in lunch on a Saturday since it's close to the waterfront. Great customer service from the greeter, wait staff and owner. Lots of great options for a seafood and bbq. I shared the Alaskan Haddock 2pcs with Fries with my son. My toddler loved it! I enjoyed the coleslaw. My husband had the tacos. My other friends had the brisket sandwich, chowder, mussels and calamari. All were very yummy! Very impressed with the food! This restaurant does comply with public health standards. All staff wore masks, greeter asked for proof of vaccination, and there are shields that separate the dining tables. I definitely felt safe dining at this restaurant.

Honestly AMAZING FOOD. I got the fish and chips combo with shrimp (I changed the battered shrimp for blackened shrimp) and was WOW…. Just delicious. We got dirty fries and poke Tuna for entry’s and they were REALLY GOOD. Honestly everything was delicious. Service was really good as well! Definitely recommend if you are in town. Would definitely come back when visiting.

Food is good, but it’s really expensive for the portions size. I got a tuna poke for $17 and got a tiny little bowl with lots of soy sauce and almost no vegetables. Really frustrating. As soon as the food arrived I complained about the size and the waiter just said that was the size and there was nothing he could do since they prepared the food already. Really? For $17 I was left hungry. Won’t be coming back again.

Great little restaurant in Kingston. Very slow time of year for the dinner crowd but this place was busy so we gave it a try. Not at all disappointed. Looking for a light snack and a couple of pints. Nice selection on tap and both the tacos and calamari were superb. Great service too!

Absolutely do not ever go here if you are a person of colour!! Our waitress didn’t come to check on our table once even though she did 4 rounds on all the other tables (including those next to ours). The tall blonde waitress and the young boy working there also pointed at my Indian mother and laughed at he after she expressed that she was upset they never checked on our table. Also our fish was cold and my mom was going to ask for it to be reheated a bit, but she never came to check. My mom had to drink my water because we were sitting on the patio and she never came to refill our drinks. She then said it was our responsibility to wave her down if we wanted her to come and that it was a mistake. Really, a mistake made 4 times? To the only family of colour in that section? I really do hope that this restaurant could learn some better values because if you want to bring up profits after COVID, being racist is definitely not the way to do it. I’m sorry but if you’re being blatantly racist to my mother I’m going to react, wouldn’t you? I really do hope that woman loses her job as blatant racism is really not a good look for this company. Expensive bill for mediocre food and bad customer service, definitely not worth it. I recommend going to BIPOC owned restaurants instead as they have common human decency in this new age.

Found this little gem in Kingston for a pit stop. Even in the time of pandemic, we managed to get a sit right away. Staffs are couteous. Menu wise, there are so many to choose from. I went straight away for fish n chips (Haddock) + clam chowder. My boyfriend thought I would go for something besides F N C, but I really have to try this and guess what it was delicous and the beer batter is very light. The size of the fish is really generous. We will definitely go back again and bring friends. ????

Dianne’s doesn’t look like much from the outside but don’t judge a book by it’s cover, walking in was beautifully decorated and we were greeted by a kind waitress and brought to our table. The food, which apparently is a new menu was lovely, the ceviche was extremely fresh and the calamari same, with some hot peppers thrown in that took it to the next level. All in all loved our experience at Dianne’s!

Absolutely delicious! I can't believe we have lived in kingston this long and haven't gone here before. We have gone twice in the last week. The lobster roll on the patio will make you feel as if you were in Halifax on the harbor , enjoying some authentic east coast deliciousness. The street corn, fish cakes and tacos somehow made their way in as the foods so delicious you can't stop yourself.

They poses themselves as a kinda seafood restaurant but I could barely find see food on the menu, only few items more like a pub sea food ( deep friend calamari and fish and chips). Dianne's Fish shack would get higher than 5 stars if I could. Small mix up this evening as my friend Chrissy and I ordered food through skip the dishes. Two meals were missing...when I called Dianne's, they were so polite, extremely professional, prompt for service. Although the meals weren't the end of the world, they treated us as their top priority. Not even 10 minutes later, one of their staff arrived at the house with the meals. Not only is this the most delicious meal ever, the service was outstanding. I will eat here again. Thank you ????

The customer service was top notch... the drinks were delicious... then the food arrived. Wow. I ordered fish and chips - which is such a standard item - but they took the time to make it amazing. The piece of fish flaked into large pieces, the batter wasn't overpowering or heavy, the fries weren't heavy and greasy, the tartar sauce was fresh with capers and shallots, the slaw was spiced and lightly dressed. Such a simple meal, but so much thought was put into it. The only thing that was "missing" was chef made ketchup. It was a lovely meal and would not hesitate to return. Thank you for such a lovely experience! :)

We have travelled the world to try authentic food and places . We don’t hesitate to pay $$ for good quality food and enjoy an effort to put Something marvelous in front of us . Having said that, we are not idiots to throw our money on garbage . After seeing a food blog on line boasting about best fish and chips in Ontario ( one of the places was Hubert fisheries in Killarney , which we absolutely agree as one of the best , decided to take a 3hr drive to Kingston try Dianne’s ( what a let down !) Upon arrival , We were told there are no TAKE OUTS , DINE IN ONLY . during this pandemic time , It was strange and the moment it was said , it sets the clear intention for rip off. Having travelled so far we obliged with anticipation. Staff were decent , our server was friendly enough, checked on us few times . Food came in after a brief wait , which was fine . FOOD - Fish and Chips - not outstanding but OK, nothing more than average. Portion was pretty small for the price you pay . batter was OK . Slaw was not good, almost gone bad. Fries were OK . Nothing to harp about . Shareable’s - DONT ORDER THEM ! That’s where you get ripped off , big time. You get cerviches and poke bowls in a small bowl (around10cm) Priced at $17-18. The chef has no idea about the authenticity Of the dish . Having tasted authentic poke in Hawaii and from many other places , I would say , this poke doesn’t even come any closer to its originality and doesn’t do any justice . It’s lame attempt and tasted like tuna in soy sauce . the smell of tuna was slightly off , which means frozen and thawed. Chowder - chowder was diluted , way too watery and lacked flavor . it’s 50% chowder + 50% hot water + few pieces of potatoes and fish . I mean there’s must be a limit in making profits , don’t you think ? When you pay something close to $60 for a meal , you expect some quality. You don’t pay for hot water as chowder . Overall portions are way too small for the high prices . P.s . Note there’s no parking near the restaurant. You have to use a paid parking spot and walk to the restaurant. I seriously doubt the mostly 4star reviews they have got . We recently tried fish and chips from a neighboring fish and chips spot which served way more good quality fish than this highly reviewed restaurant. If you are hungry or you are an experienced foodie who want value for your hard earned money , GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !

We tried Diane's three course dinner for two at home - what a delicious experience! The appetizer, trout pate with crostini, was followed by generous portions of pulled chicken enchiladas with sour cream and fresh guacamole, capped off with hello dollies for dessert. Everything was delicious, and the only preparations involved heating the enchiladas in the oven. I would highly recommend treating yourself to this excellent food prepared for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. We will certainly be doing this again!

I tried to order Takeout for dinner last night. You had to call to order. I started calling at 5:30 pm and no one answered. You couldn't leave a voicemail to order Takeout. I left a message asking them to call me back so I could order Takeout for dinner. I tried until 7 pm to reach the restaurant. I gave up. I ended up, ordering from Swiss Chalet. I ordered at 7:15 pm and I had my dinner at 7:45. Enough said.

We arrived first before you opened. Then you accommodated the group of 6 after us. We were wondering why you wanted to seat half of us outside and half inside? We said why not either inside or out and you said “that’s not how it works around here” then we left. We were seated fine at the patio across from yours, which was 2 separate tables. We were in the area for 3 days and all restaurants accommodated us fine except yours. Anyhow, that’s our experience from this restaurant and that is how we felt and that is my review. Thank you.

i saw them featured on TV, so I gave them a try as i just moved to Kingston, but I was totally disappointed. Lets begin w service! There were 5 small tables w people in the whole restaurant. i was waiting to order for takeout, standing literally in front of the bar table . 3 waitresses passed by while I waited 20 mins, and you think someone would take the time to ask me what I needed. NOPE! they looked at me as if I was in their way.... Not to mention, the look on their face! The guy behind the bar, saw me waiting so long and finally asked if he could help me. he was the courteous one! Then comes the food...to start, the portions were way too small for the price I paid. $20 for a lobster roll, and I literally finished it in 2 bites! NOT BIG BITES! They were ok, but I wouldn't pay that kind of price and service to eat there! never again! Maybe i just had bad luck w the waitresses, but first impression is important, so I guess I wont be going back there , nor would I recommend anyone.. For those prices and the lack of service, I can certainly find choices out there that is worth my money. THUMBS DOWN! Apparently my friend went there as well, and they had the same feedback.... From all the reviews I read, feedback was pretty consistent. I am Asian but have grown up in Canada all my life. In fact, even after the waitresses ignored me so long, Ii was very polite in asking... Advice for the owner, needs to hire some real waitresses that understand better customer service.

Very fresh haddock fish and chips, tartar and coleslaw both amazing, the brisket sandwich was also very good. ????

This was my first brunch at Diane’s and I’ve got to be honest, it wasn’t my favourite. That’s tough for me to say because I generally love this place. Eggs Benny was pretty good but, as you can see in the photo, the side was super unfortunate - about 5 tiny potatoes, c’mon now. My partner had the french toast grilled cheese and it was lacking to say the least. HOWEVER, don’t let this discourage you from visiting them for lunch/dinner as I’ve visited numerous times outside of this and it is still one of my favourite places in the city to eat. The poke is out of this world and I would eat it on the daily if I could.

Nice place, waited some time for our food to come, my rose sangria was really good, my twins loved the chicken fingers and fries, my husband his burger, my older daughter the lobster rolls, kind of dissapointed with the tacos, too small, already made, the tortilla not cooked enough (don't buy that plate), the dirty fries where nice too & spicy!!

Good mix of seafood dishes with a Mexican theme. Had fresh oysters and the battered fish tacos and loved it. (Didn't try any smoked meats this time!) Good variety of wine and craft beers. Great location and popular!
