Amazing place my 2 goldfish have almost been with me 1 year and my betta has been with me for a whole year. I have seen very little amount of dead fish and there isn’t huge piles of dead fish like in most stores. 5 stars. Amazing place.

Very inconsiderate place omw. got a budgey from here 4 days ago and it all of a sudden droped dead right in my hands. I called them today and they told me if i didnt have the recipt i couldnt get a refund(they didnt even seem to care the trama i just went through). I looked in my bag and they didnt even give me a receipt. Seems like as long as you dont have a problem with the company you should be fine but if you do watch out the owner will laugh in your face. Very dishonest buisness practices

I bought a 30$ Piranha from here two days ago, and the fish won't eat or swim since the first day I got him, I had to save my fish because he was laying on top of his plants on his side, dying. He is a little bit active, but he still won't eat. The staff at Nestor's were in such a hurry about the sale, I even bought a 15$ food they recommended and told me I get 5$ off and the total came to 45.00$ ...?... I absolutely do NOT recommend this place, terrible service and I am very disappointed and I hope I get my money back...

He has gone above and beyond to help me with my Koi, and has always had a smile and made me feel welcome whenever i come through the door. Fully stocked with all the supplies anyone would need for keep their fish happy and healthy. Definitely worth a stop for any fish keeping hobbyist! I took a 1 hour bus ride down to Nestors new location today on St. James. In the past I have had great experiences with them but today, I walked out incredibly disappointed in my experience at this pet store. Nestors sells large birds (parrots) along with other small birds. I have been educating myself for months on these animals but have found the information on the internet to be partial and easily debatable. I went to nestors today to see what types of birds they had. When I asked the owners wife to educate me/introduce me to some of the birds, she said no. So I went to talk to the owner and asked if he could help educate me. He said I should go online. I advised him that I had been online and you can only learn so much from online resources. He still refused...I then asked him if he had any volunteer opportunities and again no. about boxing day sales to which he replied with a giggle and said no. Incredibly disappointed in Nestors for selling birds, while not educating the potential owners...Goes to show how much pet stores really do contribute to the problem of over breeding and undereducating... not impressed at all!!

Oh wow this place is a gem! The place is clean organized and the staff knowledgeable and helpful. Popped in for some quick additions to our class room fish tank. Was in and out within 15 minutes with 4 assassin snails, 6 black neon tetra and 4 neon tetra to add to our current school. The kids were over joked and spent the majority of the day sitting in front of the 20 gal admiring our new pets.

Awesome atmosphere and beautiful selection of fish, tanks, and accessories. Their selection of coral is lovely. However, most of the betas look sickly, along with many others. The cool look of the store is a powerful distraction from the sick and dead fish. I visited the store with my boyfriend and he bought 4 fish, a week and a half later, 3/4 of them are dead. One of the fish that he purchased was in a tank on its own, so he asked if it was sick. The man working in the store sold the fish, and it had ich spots just a few days later. Disappointed, won’t be visiting again.

If i could give 0 stars i would. I bought a bunch of guppies from Nestor's a little while back and asked the staff what ratio of male to female is needed. The staff member just said the ratio doesnt matter and that you can have any ratio of males and females. However, the ratio DID matter. The staff member gave me 1 female per 1 male. Long story short, they started killing eachother off. I also had about 3 females lay around 30 young each and then dying themselves. The leftover guppies ate all the young and killed eachother. This was all over the span of a about a couple months. The actual ratio of female to male is 2 female per male (we researched more heavily after they started to kill eachother) to ensure the males wont fight much over females. Very dissapointed with uneducated and neglectful staff. Would never shop there ever again.

Went into the store on February 17th, 2019 and was disappointed. I was with a friend who knows a lot about fish and found that a lot of the fish weren’t being cared for properly, example being their dying betas that they said “just needed a change in their water”. They have a lot of supplies and variety so people are obviously going to go there but it is just so sad and underwhelming. There was a red macaw in a back room in a cage way too small for it as well

Some of the tanks storing fish for sale can have some dead or stressed fish but for the most part they are well maintained. All the Betta fish look sick, half dead and barely respond to any type of interaction. Kinda worried about the one i recently purchased. Prices are alright although i bought a tank that was $20 cheaper ,for the exact same one, elsewhere so shop around before you buy. Great selection of food and accessories, i applaud them for that but honestly wouldnt recommend there for the live fish.

A beautiful store with tons of supplies - but the saltwater fish are absolutely infested with ich. Tank after tank with fish coated with white dots, or just dead/dying fish. Super disappointing. They get an A+ for supplies, F for fish care, at least for the saltwater fish. I would be nervous to buy a fish here.

I went to Nestor’s on Saturday, April 17, 2021 and purchased a female betta, 3 tetra, and 3 guppies per the stores recommendation. At checkout the women told me how to acclimate the fish and wait 24 hours before feeding them. All super helpful. The problem came in when I went to feed the fish 24 hours later and the 3 guppies were dead. I found 2/3 corpses and put them in the freezer to take back to Nestor’s in hope of an exchange since I followed the directions they gave. When I returned on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, I spoke with Nestor and he laughed in my face for even bringing the fish to him. He told me that they guarantee quality, not that the fish won’t get eaten (we think the Betta was hungry and ate them). He said they were weak and that’s why they died. I explained to him that I had followed their recommendations for which fish I could put together and their instructions to wait 24 hours before feeding. He continued to laugh in my face and told me there would be no return or exchange for the fish. So much for a 24 hour guarantee. I will be taking my business elsewhere and I hope you do too.

i applaud this store for tricking me into giving them my money. i bout a crab there and food which they picked out. originally they said the food was $2 but when i got to the register it was $6. it’s been two days now and my crab won’t eat anything nor will it move. so i called the place asking them why it won’t eat and they told me i have the wrong food and proceeded to hangup on me. i am more than disappointed with this store and will be sure to never return.

Always top quality fish, and other pets alike. Funny how that African Grey was so good in store, yet "acted up", whatever that means, when you brought it home. Doesn't sound like the shops fault to me. Owning many birds means nothing in terms of behavioral issues, which seem to have been caused by the buyer. Used to visit Nestor's back when they had a shop in Northgate Mall, glad to see they upgraded to a bigger location. Wow, what an upgrade! For any saltwater enthusiast this is the place to stock up on corals for your reef tank, the selection is what you'd expect south of the border and pricing is very reasonable. Browsing through the shop, there's pretty much everything most aquarists would need for the hobby. Picked up a few decent sized frags, which had some pests after careful inspection, ended up doing a thorough dip and vigorous scrub to remove and now they are very happy in the tank (minus the monti that actually had a few acro eating nudibranchs). Only 4/5 stars because of the pests, but otherwise great place and highly recommend!!

i bought 2 hamster in their northgate pet store. i specifically ask for a boy and girl hamster but they gave me 2 girls. in very upset because the day after i bought my hamsters, i went there again to ask them to DOUBLE CHECK their genders and for the second time they told be that one of them is a boy. recently, i went to a different pet shop to ask them what genders my hamsters are and they told me that both of them are girls! my point in this review is that please dont let your customers assume that you are giving them the "right" one. if you dont have any male hamster then you could have just told me. why do you need to fool me twice? this is very upsetting, i trusted your shop but you gave me a reason to show that you are not a good seller at all!

No costumer service, personally experience swapping a defective item bought a day before just to be treated badly. All plants are infested with hair, black beard and pest snails caused more trouble in my tank than good.

Great display in the front with Asian arrowanas and spectacular selection of wood, media and stock. A tad overpriced in certain areas but certainly worth the money on several items. This has quite the selection. More than a few unique fish to be had here. You will have to pay for it as you should .The draw back is that for run of the mill fish he is priced at the top end of the fish market. There are other aquariums that offer your standard fish for a more competitive price . Buy with care

Excellent selection of fish, carries a lot of the uncommon ones, both freshwater and saltwater. The display only tanks are beautiful. It's a great place to go for those just starting as Nestor is very knowledgeable about fish. Also a great place for seasoned enthusiast.

Have bought several fish here and they are all doing very well. However some prices are a bit higher than else where so do your research to potentially save a couple bucks.

I’ve attempted to purchase from this store numerous times, left empty handed. I gave the owner the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was having a bad day. Owner was extremely rude and pompous and basically laughed in my face every time. I’ve been to two OTHER aquarium shops, owners were very knowledgeable and willing to help. Support small businesses, spend your money else where.

Was about to look for a specific fish and brought my daughter along so she could see the fish when we saw a sign on the window that made me shake my head. "Mandatory" masks? This style of living had to be our lives since before covid made it mainstream, and even we think masks are overrated since hardly anyone even knows how to handle them properly (don't wear it under your nose/one mask is not enough for the entire day/you can't take it off, leave it in your car, and reuse it later thinking it's just as good as a brand new disposable or freshly laundered AND sanitized mask/etc..) The owners are overreacting with making masks mandatory, which is unfortunate because this was our go-to local fish store. You'll get our business again when you come to your senses and let people worry about what's best for themselves.

Great! Place to buy quality products … especially with plants as per my experience. I had plants from pets mart which are cheaper than nesters but quality of plant is far way behind than what nesters offer. I’m happy to pay that price for the quality nesters offer. I have lot of plants from nesters which I introduced far later than the one I bought from petsmart and they are doing far better. I’m not comparing two places petsmart is also great place but here nesters overtook them. Go and visit for vast quality section products here.

the owners of this store are the rudest people ive ever met my 12 year old daughter who is special needs I went to bring her to buy the fish she wanted for Xmas she was so excited to pick out the fish and the store owners told us to leave and she is not allowed in the store this has ruined her Xmas so before you think of supporting monsters like this ease shop elsewhere these people are heartless excuses for human beings merryxmas

Store had very clean tanks and fish and plants looked healthy and active. Wide variety. I went in looking for goldfish and the owner was very helpful and his wife was very friendly. Finally got my pearlscale goldfish that I couldn't find elsewhere. There was one tank labelled as "on medication and NOT FOR SALE AT THIS TIME". I thought that very responsible because there are many stores you go to and people will knowingly sell sick fish. I also bought some moss and the owner offered some tips on how to use it. Definitely will be back to look next time I'm in the city.

Beautiful fish but the higher end fish have no price posted and every time you ask it seems to change or if you find a good deal from a posted sign that fish is magically no longer for sale.. but amazing selection and lots of supply's.

Went here a few days ago with a few friends of mine. The aquariums are nice and some prices are down right fantastic. Of course there are a few overpriced things but that is typical in any store. Decent prices on fish, not the cheapest but I'd assuming they would be "good quality" based on the price. Only problem was when I went here they practically accused my friend of stealing when she wasn't. Went up to the cash with what we wanted to buy and apparently the lady was watching us the entire time (Why would you decide to stare at only us with lots of other people in the store as well?) and said we had something else with us (Wasn't the nicest tone used either) which we didn't because my friend got something else and put it down. My friend then without a word went to get the package and went to put it on the shelf where it's supposed to go. The lady when she saw it then said she could be it on the shelf, but my friend did anyway. We were all very unhappy with that treatment. Maybe because we look like teenagers they tried to accuse us? (Which you shouldn't automatically assume teens will steal stuff anyway) I don't know but regardless it was very rude and unnecessary. I'll still be going back because I like a lot of the prices on the products but I expect to be treated more kindly. If things change I'll change the review but I won't ever forget how they treated us on our first visit.

Was not impressed with the tone of voice I was greeted with by the owner on this trip to buy two new birds. Due to a previous negative visit to the store a month prior, the owner approached me and proceeded to yell and later accuse me of reporting his store to the WHS. Which for the record I did no such thing. I reluctantly purchased the birds I was there for, and I'm sure he will be happy to learn, I will never do business there again. Very unprofessional. I will say his shop is clean, the fish look good and his prices are reasonable. Just don't get on his bad side.

Great stuff but I won't be going back. I'm not a newb to the hobby so I knew I was being bullsh*tted on several occasions, just to make a sale. They actually laughed at me when I bought a different kind of plant I had never had before that I thought had pale brown/green leaves but it was actually dead! They wouldn't reimburse me, saying I should have known better. Why are you selling dead plants? The wife knows nothing about fish and is only interesting in lining her pockets so if you need anything ask Nestor.
