Always spend more than needed, go in for a few things and come out with a lot more. Since the family are seafood lovers, it's like nirvana. Prices are lower or reasonable with other stores. Staff are very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a real "fish market" you will be disappointed as most of the seafood are frozen (they do have a display counter with fresh fish). They have several locations around Winnipeg but I only been to the Pembina store.

I usually go to the St Mary location , one day, I passed by & decided to try this location to see any difference. As usual, this is your go-to place for seafood specialty grocery! frozen or fresh (mainly from nova scotia or PEI or Prairie lakes). If you are looking for something that they don't have, probably their flagship store at Dufferin has it. For some reason, the quality of the fresh seafood is NOT as good as other branches. They also have sauces and spices for seafood. The staff has been helpful to guide me while shopping.

Fresh PEI oysters. First experience with Gimli Fish Market. I give 5 stars. For some reasons, I thought they would carry only lake fish, but there are various products. Delivery service was fantastic and very professional as if you were served at the restaurant. One of the oyster of two dozen was not the best condition. Regardlessly I'm happy with my experience and can't wait to try other products.

I have visited Gimli fish 3 times so far. All of the times I was offered very tasty and fresh fish. Since I am not so familiar with the types of fish and the ways to cook it's one I always seek for advice from the stuff. They are willing to provide you with suggestions and happy to give options. It seems that it will be my place to go to for fish and most likely for other food stuff as they do carry a bug selection of frozen products too.

There were not many options for fresh fish while I was there. A lot of frozen products, I selected the Argentinian Prawns and a nice seafood medley with octopus, mussels, squid and scallops. Some other freezer items like chicken wings and chopped veggies. Prices very reasonable.

I really wanted scallops. I know this place has quality, yet a little pricey product. I'm ok with that. I pulled up and saw the outside billboard advertising Ahi tuna on sale. I was sold. I walked in and was helped right away. I asked for the tuna, an impulse buy that I was excited for. I was told they do not have that. I told the employee that it is advertised on the sign outside. She asked her partner working with her. She agreed that it was on the sign. Then I was told they do not have that, but showed me frozen tuna and assured me that the guy was going to go change the sign and was told "it's only a dollar difference anyway", downplaying the advertisement. She was friendly but not very genuine as I suppose I had stumped her. Disappointed I just asked for the scallops. 10 scallops were $36 plus tax. So yes, pricey. I'll just shop at Co-op next time.

Normally a good place even if a bit pricey. Wife and i bought two 12+ oz frozen lobster tails. Cooked them only to discover both were bad. Smelled of iodine, and cooked up like cottage cheese.... rancid. That's $100 worth of lobster we couldn't eat. While maybe not directly their fault, i would suggest more reliable suppliers.

Gimli Fish...come for the Manitoba Pickerel Cheeks, get Zander from Kazakhstan instead! On March 30, 2015, it was reported by CTV Winnipeg that Gimli Fish Market was caught passing off Zander (a fish from Kazakhstan) as Lake Winnipeg Pickerel Cheeks. Of course, when confronted, the owner of the company claimed (off camera) that it was all a mistake, that the wrong labels were put on the packages. Well, okay, that could possibly have occurred...on one occasion...BUT NOT FOR FOUR MONTHS!!!??! Nice try, but an epic fail on all counts...

Such a great gem of Winnipeg! Best place to get fresh in season local fish, all sorts of great quality seafood and nearly everything you need for sushi at really fair prices. Staff is always very friendly and helpful. They have genuinely improved my quality of living during covid by expanding their sushi selection and they are always adding and changing things up. Love that I can get quality perogies, perosky, pickerel, bannock, crab cakes and sushi supplies and so much in between, all in the same tiny local shop. Each pic attached is about 90-100% exclusively made from products from Pembina Gimli Fish market.

Soooo, my husband & I finally dropped in to the Gimli Fish Market on Dufferin to purchase the products we wanted from our list & we were blown away, not only by their selection, but their prices, are excellent! The Staff were super & helped us with whatever we were looking for! VERY friendly & courteous! Prices are great! Supreme Stir Fry & Niagara Vegetable Mix are GREAT also for the price! And the seafood is soooooo good! We even purchased a $5.00 Vanilla double layer cake..thinking that it wasn't going to be that good for five bucks. But what the heck? We'll try it anyway!! Boy! Were we wrong!! BEAUTIFUL cake! A tad dense, but serve it with some frozen or fresh fruit & you have a winner! Now we are going to give the chocolate one a whirl next week! Will definitely be heading back to Gimli Fish Market!! Thank You!

I have shopped at this location frequently. About 2 weeks ago I purchased a can of crab meat costing me $25.00. A few days later I removed it from the fridge only to find that it had blown up so bad that I put it in the garage as I was scared it was really going to blow up!! I returned it to Gimli Fish and his response was “no receipt, no return”! Are you kidding me?? It was good until September 2019 so I am supposed to hang onto this receipt for over another year!!! How many people hang onto their grocery receipts just in case a can blows up??? There was also a sticker on it with Gimli Fish stated right on it... right beside the $25.00 price tag!! Very disappointed in the customer service....and besides...they aren’t the only fish market in town!! They will never get another penny from this shopper!!!

Great place and very friendly. I bought some caviar from here only to find out my brother had bought me the same ones. I was able to return the caviar without any hassle. They also have a great selection of sea food.

Stopped in at the Gimli Fish on Pembina Hwy, for the first time to pick up some smoked goldeye for Father's Day. I noticed that there were only a couple smoked goldeye left, I asked if they had anymore and was told they wouldn't get anymore until Monday. I said I would take the rest of what they had left. As I walked around waiting for the store clerk to wrap the goldeye up I over heard a couple other guys talking about getting smoked goldeye? Another clerk had mistakenly informed them that they still had smoked goldeye, which I was told they didn't??? With no correction from the store clerk that was helping me, the other clerk started filling they're order, not knowing that I was paying attention to all of this. . . I had confirmed the quantity they had left when I said I would take the rest of what they had. When I was going to pay I was told that there wasn't as many as I ordered originally and all of a sudden they had more that they sold to the other 2 guys that were looking for smoked goldeye too? Personally in my opinion that was extremely rude of the clerk to cut my order short due to a co-worker not confirming stock on what they actually had. I usually shop at the Dufferin store, and will probably continue doing that as the service at the Pembina Hwy location has some touching up to do.
