The place is not the best place for service but they look after their creatures. I always go there to buy my pet Rats. I have had no problems, and I look at it as I am saving an animal or creature from there. It is a fish, reptile and rodent shop. The rats I save are usually for feeding reptiles or for pets. It is not a Petland or pet smart but you get good product and animals. Think of it as a way to save an animal without the overhead costs and maybe soon enough they can make the store a better place to shop! :)

Good selection of aquarium fish and plants but conditions are crowded and can be hard to find exactly what you are looking for. Few other places in Winnipeg that have the fish stock they do. Updating Review and Increasing Rating, always a plus when the owner responds online looking for feedback and offering assistance.

We purchase a Male Eclectus parrot name Oscar a few years ago. They helped suggest many products that would aid in keeping Oscar happy and content. They took the time to make sure we were ready, and held him until we could take him home. We are very pleased to say that Oscar has become huge part of our family. He is an amazing parrot, and dont know what we would do with out him! Thank you once again!

The bird section just broke my heart! The cockatoo was sitting alone in a small cage with 1 bad perch, the perch is very rough on its feet! The macaws looked sick and the sun counres were always fluffed up! The finches were in a cage together but there were to many finches in that cage! Some of the other birds looked sick and uncared for. Yes I am a bird expert and I know when birds are sick, uncomfortable or not cared for! The cages were so messy and empty. If a store is gonna have birds they need to take care of them! ????

Just got back from my first visit ... have gone to a number of pet stores in last week or two as pondering getting an aquarium & something a little more life-like than a Filet o'Fish ... what an utterly cool experience: didn't know places like this existed any more ... a maze-like, dark store just crammed full of really interesting stuff. Owner (& his nephew) were absolutely full of info & suggestions ... no pressure; they seem to love their critters as well. I notice that some other reviewers seem annoyed that the place doesn't look like a McDonalds -- complete w shiny, shiny things everywhere and zombie-eyed staff -- well then don't go there: just hang out at the mall ... any mall will do. If the owners read this I'd be interested in knowing the name of that (marine) fish that was across the isle from that beautiful lionfish: the green one with the long nose: we made eye-contact & I think we bonded. Cheers.

Went in to check the store out, seems like a the place to go if you're a fish hobbyist and the assortment of both saltwater and freshwater fish is impressive. I'm trying not to let my biased get the best of me but have to say I struggle to accept pets like boa constrictors and tropical reptiles, birds and even fish living far removed from their respective habitat. It was quite cluttered in the store but it did add to the charm. Many of the saltwater tanks were really dirty and the one with the tiger fish had very low water levels, but man what a beautiful creature! I didnt purchase anything but their prices seem fair. Overall, great experience.

They leave nothing out You'll leave after service confident that u can take care of him Yah my daughter bought a complete fish tank and and a heater & a special debris natural stone & chromatic (pottery) fish dwelling (15$**) she said a lot of stuff the seller "ABOUT preparing for" your other pets u want introduce..she said the material the FISH DWELLING was made of would be "shrimp friendly" & also one cant put baby shrimp in the tank the beta will beat up and try to fight the babies so one has only put adult shrimps because they have shells to protect them..babies dont For the Beta JAPANESE FIGHTING FISH Yah he's ornery and his sharp teeth will bite away at anything a foreign fish is sure to die with holey fins He's so aggressive and mean..always looking for a fight my daughter purchased a tank so he could have a mansion .Now i saw the lady show, demonstrate & give free education & advice. My kid had previously bought a fancy beta 30$ So i watched her tell my daughter about the scum. waste that accumulates & must be removed with that special net She also told my daughter that to clean the tank u need a to "syphon" (15$***paid separate) for sucking out the bottom water where the scum accumulates So i always myself as a child would dump the whole tank My daughter bought a 5 gallon AQUARIUM List :75$ for a tank kit -concentrated water cleaner & refresher -Oh wow FOOD CAME WITH IT A bonus !! -it didn't come with a syphon but came with a water filter -2 filter replacements (i used charcoal ..thats "MODERN DAY Charcoal") -A fish Care Guide ***a tropical fish's water HEATER //paid separate$$ It came with a net & an aquarium canopy with led lights WE ARE ENJOYING THE TANK YOU BETCHA THANK YOU BIRD SHOP & AQUARIUMS !!

Great selection of fish but wow is this place dirty. Unkempt, you can't even access the aisle of supplies as it's blocked by clutter. Bird cages are all in filthy conditions and the birds were all obviously seldom if ever handled as they would all only bite; unlike pet stores like pet land where the birds are handled daily. Don't go unless you know what you want and can get in and out quickly.

Everything you'd ever need! They have a great selection of animals and products and the prices are fantastic, even better than online. They take great care of the animals and even put the bettas in their own tanks, not in tiny plastic cups like other places. The staff is friendly and can answer any questions you have. I can't recommend them enough.

Parrots are not in good health. Unclean environment. Beak and feather issues (mites). Birds are filthy. Owner plays down the idea of taking on a behavioral parrot. First timers should be provided the truth otherwise they won't have a good experience with their feather baby and may lead to reselling them. These pets live long and deserve better treatment than what this family is doing. I'm going to report them.

Sorry to say I will never do business with this place EVER!! Had a product that needed to be replaced under warranty and all I got to here about was the dealer for these products does not do their job, takes months or longer to get our refund and went on and on, I'm a customer not a therapist. The company contacted them and they lied to the company directly. But all is good now that the company stepped in and took care of it. If that is how you treat your customers, well take your chances people or go somewhere else. Ask questions about warranty with all stores. Good luck

Unlike several commenters, I have never found dirty fish tanks, rather very healthy-looking ones. I love my experience in this store. The owners know where everything is, are a wealth of information, and have what I need for a variety of pets.

I went to Bird Shop & Aquariums and bought live rock the store owner said to me that they treat/dip the rock. I put the rock in my tank that day, a day or so after I put the rock in my salt water tank all my levels started going all over when they were just fine the day I put it in. My fish, hermit crabs, and scallops started dying while I was taking out the dead fish I was wondering why they were all dying when I seen this big worm looking thing was swimming around my tank, I took it out as soon as I seen it and put it in the pail with the dead fish and scallops I had, after I put this worm into the pail it started attacking all the things that were in it. I looked around my tank and found several others that were ranging from small or fairly big. moral of the story is the rock that I bought from the store Bird Shop & Aquariums wasn't treated and held these worms that killed the fish, hermit crabs and scallops that I had in my tank, not to mention when I tried to ask the owner if they did do this treatment he was told me he did and when I told him my problem he was very rude and ended up hanging up on me..

Great service every time I've been there. They carry everything and if they don't have it they'll bring it in for you . i needed parts, they had them. they built me a custom tank a few years back, which i love. all the animals that they have looked super healthy. I guess one word to describe the place is Amazing. All the life that i purchased from them lives a lot longer then life i've purchased from other places. This is the only place i'll shop!

I was hesitant to post this here after reading every other review, as it looks as though the owners are responding with backlash to the customers who have come forth with concerns. I recently visited the shop for bird food and spent quite some time there talking with the owners who were very kind and knowledgeable. After noting the state of the bird cages I started asking questions. The parrots look visibly ill and the cages are near bare with huge bowls of seeds for food. Seeds are snacks and not to be fed in this amount. The room at the back had a cover over the window so I could not see inside, the bird in the room was screaming. When I asked why the window was covered the owner said “for nesting”. If the owners are reading this review, please, please start taking care of these precious animals properly and own up to this review and the many other customer reviews of a similar nature. We have concern for the animals under your care. This really needed to be said. Edit* The owners responded to my review extremely unprofessionally. Claiming I have a sick bird at home that I took from my room mate and that they protect their birds from strangers. What I actually told them during my visit, was that I have a bird with respiratory disease due to her previous owner having smoked in his home before she was rehomed to us. So they have most certainly changed the information to support their case. Respiratory disease is not catchy. I stand by what I have said here, the bird cages are filthy and the birds are not taken care of properly. This post is intended to bring awareness to the general public for animal health and safety.

The poor mice and rats! I understand that they can be sold as food for reptiles (however live feeding is dangerous for both the snake and the food, and is not recommended) but they are also intelligent creatures that need company and stimulation in their environment, especially rats. The rat specifically was all alone, has discharge on his eyes, and had absolutely nothing in his cage except a box. He was digging in the wood shavings trying to entertain himself. Breaks my heart. Anyone who knows anything at all about these animals understands that an environment like that is torture.

So the owners are very nice and kind and know a lot about their animals and how to care for them.. so i am very curious on why the animals aren’t well taking care of. Reptiles, they seemed okay, didn’t have proper lighting and the enclosures weren’t the cleanest but that’s expected with reptiles, things get dirty. The fish tanks were very dirty looks like they havnt been cleaned in a while.. But considering there are so many Animals I can understand that it’s tough taking care of all them with not many people working there. But you should not take more than you can handle, it’s not fair for the animals. The biggest concern were the birds! Holy molly these poor things!! Shaking ill, feathers puffed up in that dark room that’s closed shut. If the birds were out where people could socialize with them they would be much happier. So would the customers lol I wanted to see them so bad!! But the food dishes were at the bottem of the cage? Maybe cause it’s easier for the owners to not get bitten. The dishes shouldn’t be at the bottem cause they will poop in it. There was one toy in each cage, one perch in each cage, there should be least 3 in each. And I love the lady who owns the store she’s very kind and smart but please get these birds out in the open for people to socialize!! They would sell faster, people like me would come visit them!! The birds would be happy :) I sadly won’t be buying birds from here unless they start taking better care for them. When you buy a bird, that’s one more bird they need to get. I hope the best for these animals and the store!! This review is not meant to be mean, just concerned about the animals.

(we had traveled 120 miles to get there)..... talk about lazy and ZERO customer service! Told us to go across the street to a different fish store....and we did! They have a ton of stuff but it's next to impossible to find anything as its not overly organized and a bunch of the store is blocked off. They do have some stuff that other stores don't though which is nice. They have a large selection of saltwater fish but their birds break my heart. The larger parrots are all kept in a small room away from interaction with anybody which I could understand if it was a matter of breeding birds needing quiet, but the cages are hardly big enough for the larger birds, old, look like they haven't been cleaned in quite awhile and there are next to no toys for any of the birds. It looks like they're just getting a seed mix which is just another thing to add to the list of issues I have. Walk to the next room and it's floor to ceiling across the entire room dirty metal cages for all their finches/canaries/song birds. Overall i dont shop there simply because it's so cramped and hard to find things as its poorly if at all organized and as a parrot owner, I can't give my business to an establishment that has their birds kept like that. EDIT: I just noticed that they replied to my review and I find it interesting that they choose to respond to poorer reviews in such an unprofessional manner. I wrote this review very plainly and honestly. I worked at another pet shop, but my review has nothing to do with that. They responded to another poor review and assumed that I must have convinced that person to write a bad review (since they happen to shop at the pet shop I used to work at). Do you really think I care that much? I dont know who that person was and I'm not so unprofessional as to tell customers to leave negative reviews of other shops. Maybe instead of reacting so poorly when someone has a legitimate claim or complaint, make an effort to resolve the issue or at the very least be polite. My review stands. It is a cluttered store and I cannot condone the way the birds are kept. I have not returned to this store for that reason and if they have improved their bird areas then I would revisit the location as they do carry brands you dont find elsewhere.
