I own two large dogs which require a specific food brand which we were always happy to purchase from purple seahorse. My fiancé and myself used to purchase 2-6 bags at a time ($85 each) every 4 months. The last few times we have tried to get food ordered and received horrible customer service and no call back. Unfortunately this all happened around the time the business was sold and Covid hit, which left us no choice but to shop elsewhere. This long term customer will NOT be returning. P.s. I’m buying dog food from their competitors for $10 less a bag and delivered to my work for free.

I usually have no complaints about this store but today is a different case. Four days ago I purchased a medium sized plecostomus for $15. I took him home and realized he was a bit too big for my tank so the next day I brought him back. I got exchanged for two very small plecostomus that are somehow worth $7.50 a piece even though they were only an inch big.. One died yesterday and the second died this morning. Unbelieveable. I am going back today when they open and getting a full refund! Its ridiculous that I have to drive twenty kilometres again. Honestly, I've had Beta fish from walmart live longer than that. Come on.

I'm sure we have all been to that pet store, where the person working there is obviously not a animal lover. Which actually pisses me off, alot more than the guy working at Tim Hortons who hates doughnuts.;)

Ive had several interactions with these people and only once was it a kind of sort of okay experience. They bought my dwarf hamsters and i got $5 cash or $10 store credit. Even so they werent very polite at all. My first experience I was trying to rehome my 4 year old ferrets and the boss told me that they would take them but not gave me anything for them, because theyre 4 year old they are "worthless". OKAY but then they go and sell them and make money themselves. The most recent experience I called and asked if they were interested in buying my baby rat, they seemed all excited and said they would sell fast, so we brought them all the way from the west side only for them to put them in the cage, totally ignore us while doing so, and then look at us stupidly while we waited for them to pay us. Instead the girl gives me a clueless look and tells me that she just thought they were free and they dont ususally pay for rats. Obviously we are taking them back tonight. Overall horrible experience. The younger girls that work there are very stuck up and I have never gotten a straight answer from them.

Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff! These ladies know how to run a store very well and always keep the animals health/safety and customers best interest in mind! They do an amazing job of educating customers and making sure they are getting what they need and they will even turn down their own products if it isn't suitable for the pet at need! It's so rare to find businesses, especially pet stores that care about their pets needs first, and are not just trying to make a quick buck like a lot of the name brand stores! I personally purchase all of my pets things from here, (I own probably one of every animal you could imagine from fish to reptiles to my dog!) and I highly recommend stopping by, even if it's just so say hi to the resident pets like Deaner, Joey or Dexter!

Some of the fish had ich, I thought the tanks seemed kinda small and dirty looking, and I found the store crowded with boxes and stuff making it hard to move around and look at everything. The axolotls were with small stones the size that could be eaten and choked on, and I was unaware of any sick tanks in the back of the store which also looked crowded and dirty. I was also trying to adopt one of the female rats in the back being treated for mites in the back, but they’ve been unavailable for weeks and every time I ask about them only half the employees remember they exist or I get a different answer. I asked to see the colourations/ markings of the rats in the back so I could maybe get one soon and they employee said no, so I went to totalpet after a while instead.

Bought four fish from them they said that they were fine had the tank set up for two weeks and it was plenty of room for them and one died two days after and the rest died that same week and the fish I had just moved from my other tank who was healthy before died very soon after he was Healthy and had been living in the tank for a week and he just died without any warning signs

I really like this store as there are not many LFS in the area, but when I went, it was extremely busy with only 2 staff. One was going great, but the other was having a conversation with a customer about meeting sometime to sell some driftwood. I don’t think that is acceptable when there were obviously many people waiting. Also, all the fish were sick. The only thing that keeps me going back is the live plants and aqua scaping rock

Purple Seahorse has a great selection of any exotic pet needs. The staff are friendly and helpful. As with any pet store, however, the husbandry of some of their more exotic animals is not ideal. I don't think this is purposeful though. More just a lack of knowledge on the species.

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that this place sometimes has issues with ich, so quarantining new fish is a good idea just in case. That being said, they do their very best.

They have an amazing selection of salt water fish. They carry unique fresh water fish. They are one of the best in town as far as variety goes. But several times that I bought fish there they came with an illness. I am very hesitant to by fish there any more because they almost always seem to be carrying diseases. It is cramped and the resident parrot bits if you get to close to the cage (which is in an over crowded, narrow, high traffic hallway.) The workers are incredibly helpful. I really don't know how to feel about this store...

This is where I like to grab my crickets. The girls here are super friendly and helpful. There is a 1 dollar minimum for buying crickets, which works out to 7 crickets. So if your animal only wants 1 cricket, you either get 6 pet crickets or you have to eat them yourself. I put them in an old terrarium and will decide whether or not I'm eating them in a few days.

Felt bad for the reptiles in this store. Their bearded dragons look weak and malnourished. I seen live big crickets and dirty water in their filthy tanks. Beardies extreme stress marks on bodies. first time in the store today and bought 2 horn worms for my tarantula, i’m not sure what’s wrong with them but they look extremely sick. they’re discoloured, covered in what looks to be their own vomit and one has a growth of some sort on its face. i can’t figure out how to attach a picture but i have added pictures to the stores gallery of a comparison of their horn worms and a horn worm from pet smart. definitely don’t recommend feeding their insects to your pets. multiple other reviews mention parasites so i won’t be purchasing insects from them again.

This will now be the second time I call them and explain I have received a bunk fish. When I initially called the girl who answered was rude and cut me off several times. I simply wanted to explain what was happening to the fish, so I could save him if at all possible and she just repeated "it just happens, bring it in or keep it." I was disgusted! First of all, their intention should be the well being of their animals they sell you. Secondly, if she had just let me explain what was happening I could determine if what was going on could now be problematic for my other fish. She seemed not to care, and then offered me half price on a medication. Again???! WTF? So I am expected to now pay them because their fish could potentially destroy all my other fish? I received a replacement and now it is dying. I will be requesting my money back today and will not be getting fish from their location again. As other reviews state, they have several dying fish (although I thought maybe it was their quarantine tank I was looking at). Also, I believe it should be policy to not sell fish the day after they arrive in store, this was not the case for them. WHAT A JOKE!

I have been going to The Purple Seahorse with my family since I was a kid! So long ago now that my brother and I picked a puppy from the back window in the store and brought him home. For this reason I have always had a fond attachment to The Purple Seahorse and their friendly and knowledgeable staff certainly help preserve that attachment. Bring your favorite pet and head on down to The Purple Seahorse, they have a great selection of treats, accessories, and would love to say hi to your friend!

Everything was great, a very good experience. The only thing which is not their fault is parking. Construction in the parking lot took a lot of availability away and so there was not enough, had to park a bit away. Otherwise I highly recomend.

Went in with my family about a month ago. We got there about 40 minutes before closing time and the store was empty of customers and there were 3 staff on hand. Not one of them asked if we needed help. Then with 20 minutes to closing time I had to go ask for help as we wanted some fish and I was told that it was too late to buy fish. This would have been nice to know when we came in, especially since we headed straight to the fish and spoke loud enough that they could hear us picking out the ones we wanted. How long does it take to bag 10 fish and 2 snails?! Petsmart took less than 5 minutes to do this task... I don't think we will be returning.

I've always been a fan of this store and when we decided to move houses we thought we would bring in the professionals to move our tanks for us and I was blown away by their service. We had Kai and Sarah moving our tanks, and I would never hesitate to recommend them, they were super knowledgeable and professional, made moving the large tank seem easy and you could barely even noticed them packing up the smaller ones. Quick, efficient and friendly. If you need a pet store in town or need some tanks moved Purple Seahorse is the way to go

My best friend bought some fish from them; she raises, buys and sells fancy goldfish. After having the fish within a hospital tank for some time she finally introduced them to her stock, but they transferred a parasite still into her tank! Her one fish she had for years died very slowly and its mate not long after... When she called one girl said oh sorry forgot to tell you they had mites but it's not harmful... Bull! When she called again someone offered free treatment but she never picked it up... I myself get nothing but dead fish after only a few days; some staff are quite rude, not to mention their no cash back no refund policy it's a joke!!!

This store is disgusting. It's small, cramped, cluttered, and filthy. Boxes on shelves are covered in grime, the floor is damp and scummy, and the whole place absolutely reeks, even though they keep the door open during the day. The fish tanks are by far the most awful things I've ever seen - sick, dying, or dead fish in every single tank. There was a 6-inch arowana dead and half eaten in one last time I was in there. Half of the tanks were "NFS" because they were visibly infested with ich. I got some fish because they were on sale, and the employee accidentally netted a dead plecostomus instead!!! All of the fish died within the first week in quarantine and they would not give me my money back - instead, they gave me more ich infested fish. Aside from the fish area, they keep rats, ferrets, and other various sensitive small animals on filthy pine bedding and feed them leftover cat/dog food. Large Labrador puppies are confined to tiny aquariums and the ferrets have no toys, just a dirty ripped up old bed. The poor resident parrot screeches so loudly for attention you can hardly hear yourself think, and attempts to bite people passing by. Unfortunately, their stock of aquarium equipment and prices aren't too bad, but their live animals are kept SO poorly that I will never, ever, buy from here again.

Great service anytime I go there they have my cat's favorite food. They are friendly to my kids who love talking to the parrot and seeing the animals. All that with a good customer loyalty program make it my place to get pet supplies.

Worst experience I've ever had. Do not purchase anything from here. Pre purchased a fish, that they turned around and sold, then lied to me and tried to give me a different fish.claiming it was the same. One. They pretend to know what they are talking about, but they are just a bunch of rude children that are more concerned with posting on fb, on work time, then actually helping a new customer. I will never be back. Oh and nothing was done about the selling of my fish. They screwed up and made me feel like an idiot. I will never be back there and I will tell everyone I know, never to purchase anything from here. They are lying thieves.
