Hubby & I visited The Original Just For The Halibut Restaurant in Bobcaygeon for lunch on Friday November 6 2020. Having researched local Fish & Chips, it was our mission to travel there to sample their food. This establishment is set up with outstanding precautions regarding current pandemic regulations, and we felt completely comfortable dining there. The atmosphere is great - low key and nostalgic music that was just right for us 60 year olds. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that their Fish & Chips (and onion rings/cole slaw) were some of the best we have ever had! The staff were friendly and very attentive, without being overly so. The price is reasonable considering the portion sizes, and the quality of food. Definitely will return and try many other delicious looking meal options as often as we can. Highly recommend to others.

Excellent fish and chips! Not soggy or overbattered. The fries are good and the aioli dips are delicious. Try the peanut butter pie for dessert with ice cream! The service is friendly as well. The restaurant interior is unique and cozy. Wonderful family run restaurant right in town centre. Would highly recommend.

Ill start by saying the fish was delicious. Light batter and cooked well. The chips half were miserable though, overcooked, burned, soaked in oil and soggy. No flavour whatsoever. No included ketchup or tartar sauce as well so overall a very dry meal.

Came to this restaurant with a group of 15 motorcyclists. Made a reservation before hand and they had our table ready for us when we arrived. This restaurant is much larger than the photos suggest. Service was great with our orders being taken promptly and lunch served pretty quickly considering the group size. They had an extensive beer menu with craft beer options as well. Happy with the halibut and chips I ordered as well.

This unassuming family friendly diner is actually supringly spacious inside. The staff here were fantastic and made you feel so welcomed, the food was great with generous portions and atmosphere was very homey, like you were having Sunday dinner at grandpa's place. They also have a take- out window an extensive beer list. The crab and lobster cake is a must order! The only thing that fell short for me was the fish chowder, it was too thick and a little bland.

My friend and I went here over the weekend after visiting a Wolf Research and Education Centre. The food and service was amazing. We felt very welcomed and our server was so helpful with helping us pick the best food options that evening. I had the seafood Alfredo and my friend had the Halibut fish with onion rings (you can substitute fries with it) which came with their amazing homemade sauce. I really admired how they purchase their food items from local farmers in the area. This is definitely worth the place to visit if you’re in the area!

All these years and still amazing fish and chips. Can't beat the fries and that batter is perfect. Portions were good and service was excellent around 2:30 on a Saturday. The burger was ok but did look quite dark pink in the middle. Apparently its cause of the freshness of the meat.

We went to visit some family in the area and stopped here for some lunch. We were 2 families with 7 kids between us ranging from 15 years old to 5. There was something for everyone from - halibut bites for the kids to small and larger halibut portions for the adults! They even had fish tacos that were delish! Upon asking our kids if they liked their lunch, they replied "no we didn't like it....we LOVED it! ????. Such friendly and warm staff. We will definitely be returning when we are back in the area.

If you don't stop at just for the halibut you've made a a massive error in judgement. This is by far the fish in chips I've ever had. There new back patio is amazing and our server Mary was outstanding. If your in near or even an hour away you need to stop by!

Had our first post-quarantine restaurant meal here! So happy with our choice. We split a 2-piece haddock and chips as well as the popcorn shrimp appetizer (with buffalo sauce!); sososo pleased with both. And we are picky, cheap and hard to please! Also drank the Orange Creamsic Ale -- highly recommend. Relaxed, friendly vibes, perfect spot for fish and chips. Will definitely return next time I'm in Bobcaygeon ????

My friends and I dined at Just For The Halibut on Saturday, April 26th, 2014. We were a table of 4 women. One of us (not me) was celebrating her 50th birthday. The service was impeccable as was the food. We have all eaten there before and enjoyed it. We had an assortment of appetizers (I really recommend the escargot!) and various entrees. They were all excellent. I personally had the bacon wrapped "senior" steak (5 oz.) and it was cooked to perfection. I would say that the steak was up to the same standard as any really good steakhouse. We had no room for dessert but had a specialty coffee to complete our meals. The staff put a candle in my friend's specialty coffee (it was whipped cream topped - REAL whipped cream) and sang Happy Birthday to her. This restaurant is not inexpensive but the ambiance, food and service make it a very worthwhile dining experience. I recommend that you make reservations. I will be returning there again for my next special outing. I am sure it will be just as memorable.

What an amazing place! The decor is gorgeous & staff will tell you who the family pictures are on the wall along with the history. Upscale feel with a ma & pop atmosphere. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable & go above & beyond. A member of our party has a severe food allergy & our server Mary talked to the kitchen staff to find out exactly what would be suitable. The food is outstanding. Having lived in England, finding authentic fish & chips is no easy feat. Except if you come here, that is. The halibut is cooked o perfection, the Yorkshire pudding with beef is gorgeous. Portions are perfect. Absolutely love this place! Thank you very much for a great meal.

Was not impressed with the service. Made reservation at 4:30 was promptly seated. Not busy at all but the waitress seemed to be rushing and not really paying any attention to us. Several attempts to take our order which was not difficult. Ordered vegetables as a side dish the parsnip and carrots were over cooked and the parsnips had rotten spots. The waitress rushed by several times without checking how our dinner was. Had to request butter from another waitress walking by and told her about the vegetables. Our waitress finally stopped by and my husband asked for coffee. Still waiting for the coffee, we ended up paying the tap. Then the waitress finally said she was brewing coffee and apologized for the vegetables. She asked why we didn't say anything and we responded you kept rushing by. Usually we love this restaurant but not this time

What a fabulous place to dine! Food was excellent and the service was very good considering how busy it was. Our party of 5 were seated fairly quickly without a reservation. Atmosphere is cozy, place is actually bigger than it looks from outside. Food was hot and delicious. We had haddock and fries, cod and fries, & Caesar salad. Sara our server was humorous and friendly. Prices are reasonable and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Definitely will return. The picture is their beer list...17 beers.

So I went to a fish and chips place advertising its Halibut in its name and since I have never tried Halibut, I figured I might as well try it... Result: Incredible. Stopped here for a quick lunch on our way to Gravenhurst. There were plenty of tables available. We were seated and served quickly. The halibut was a bit on the dry side, but still pretty good. The butter chicken curry poutine was excellent! The craft beer flight was a nice way to enjoy a taste of the local brews of Kawartha region.

We had a very good evening meal at Just for the Halibut after having been recommended it in the hotel we stayed in (Three Islands Motel). The service was friendly, the decoration was interesting, and the place was busy. The food was good, with the highlight being their peanut butter burger, which sounds weird, but was absolutely delicious (which is basically how it's described on the menu). The children (3 of them) loved their food too.

One word: Fantastic. After the Festival of Trees we were looking for somewhere to eat but the first two places we went by were full. Stopped off at Just for the Halibut and it was full but luckily a table was just leaving. From the outside the place looked unremarkable but we were hungry and we had 6 adults and two kids so we weren't driving around any longer. Immediately impressed by our server. Super friendly and down to earth. Very prompt with getting menus, drinks and food out. The menu was impressive on its own. The variety was staggering. I figured at first glance it was going to be a limited menu fish and chip place but I was sorely mistaken. The food was incredible. I've never had battered fish so properly cooked. Flaky, light and perfectly cooked meat. Beer menu was impressive with lots of craft variety on tap. The server got beer out way quicker than any restaurant I've been to in recent memory. 100% will go back soon. There's so much more on the menu that I need to try. You won't be disappointed.

Very welcoming & casual restaurant. We had the Deep Fried Pickles (great!), Halibut & Chips, and Haddock & Chips. Fish was very fresh and tender, I personally couldn't tell the difference between the two except for its shape. Batter was a bit too greasy for my liking. Chips were yummy. Coleslaw was fantastic! Keep in mind the portions of fish are pretty big.

Wonderful staff. You might think it's a bit pricy for the family but the amount of food and the quality justifies the price. If you are paying individually you will appreciate it even more as the food is fantastic and if you get the double order you can share between two. Totally Loved the food. They somehow managed to make halibut rubbery. Add extra for onion rings, as in about one onion, charge $35 before tip and tax for about $3 worth of ingredients encrusted in industrial grade batter, and you've got the picture.

Very fresh Greek salad, nicely served with the Vinegrette dressing on the side, just as we like it, and that's even without asking. Just the right size portions. If you are in the surrounding area i recommend you visit this place. The fried fish taste great and i will visit this place again when in the area. Fyi - Down the streets is one of locks and swing bridges for the boats to cross. So, eat your lunch and then take a quick walk down the street to watch the small boats pass by. There is an ice cream shop right on corner before you reach the locks.

Staff were good, but food not so much. Ordered the first mates plater and the shrimp and a scallops were lukewarm to say the least. One very small piece of fish(which was good)and a lot of greasy fries. Also ordered calamari which were over cooked to the point they were almost burnt, and Mac & cheese bites which were good. They seem to do fish and chips well but struggle with the other items on their menu.

Just picked up 2 haddock and fries for supper. The food is excellent and the service fantastic, So wonderful having such a great restaurant just down the road. Absolutely incredible! I had the marinara mussels (special feature) followed by the First Mate's Platter (battered halibut, sautéed shrimp and scallops) and it was the best meal I have had in a very long time! Everything cooked perfectly, amazing staff, great atmosphere...this place fires on all cylinders. Our server, Tara, was amazing and the manager, Julia, was just awesome. 5 Stars all the way

Pricey but worth it, friendly, courteous, clean; you can watch the cooks prep your meal and the portions are fair. The only reason I knocked it down to 4 stars is their gravy was bland, no flavour at all which in our opinion wrecked our poutine. That said, the fries by themselves are fantastic, as was the fish and the burgers. All I can vouch for is after outbreak, the prices are expensive; keep away from the gravy it will be worth it; we'd like to go back again soon. Sorry no pics, we took the food to the beach and it was a bit windy that day so we were more focused on eating than savouring memories.

Great halibut, generous size, with crispy chips + slaw. Other half had the pickerel also substantial, corn meal instead of batter. 7 tables in the patio behind the place (with take-out out front). Also parking back there too. Lovely lunch. Will go back in the fall.

We paid $8 for onion rings, got 4 medium rings, 4 very tiny inner rings. Unfortunately, we were so hungry that they were all gone before the waitress came around and we could ask. Her response was something like "don't you wish they were endless?" hmmm. They need better quality control. Food was decent for fried fare otherwise.
