My first visit to Big Ben Fish and Chips on Thursday afternoon on April 15th. 2021 Very frindley and professional staff to serve you. Very delicious instore specials served with plenty of quality napkins utensils and toppings. Nice and clean well maintained unfortunately no sitting in allowed due to COVID19. Following COVID19 protocol accordingly. I hope their Debit and Credit machine is back in service. Highly recommended and love to visit again while in Peterborough.

First time here. Friendly staff with helpful suggestions to the menu. The haddock was very well done. Light and crispy and not oily. One of better fish I've had. Pricing is slightly on the high side but the fish portions were well sized. Did not walk away hungry! Would recommend you give them a try.

Stopped in for take out as they only allow sheep to dine in. Obviously got fish and chips. There was plenty of food to go around which was a nice surprise. Fish was kinda bland and the fries were like most fish and chips places, trash. The fish was cooked perfectly and nice and crispy and hot when we got it home.

I tried this place while visiting my mom at her long term care home. I always prefer the halibut and chips, and I was not disappointed. The batter was light and crispy and the fish was cooked to perfection. The chips were excellent as well. The portions were generous. The service was attentive and all Covid safety requirements were enforced. I've eaten here three times already...and I'll be back!

The BEST fish and chips around! It is as close as you will get to a taste of Britain, right here in PTBO. The staff is very friendly, and I love how modern and clean the restaurant is. Great staff but, unfortunately I’m not paying for the staff, hough customer service is why I gave it a 2 star instead of 1. I went into the restaurant for the first time and when I received my order it felt light. When I opened it when I got home I found the portions were small for the price. Then when I started eating the halibut and fries, it left a very strong film of grease in my mouth which put me off and didn’t finish. Now I will be looking elsewhere unfortunately. Jan 28, 2022

A little on the diner style. Food was good but a tad pricey. Any sides (including salads) are an additional cost. When you order fish and chips, that's exactly what you get. If you want cloeslaw (for instance), that's considered a side. Not sure if Big Ben's deserves a second visit. 3 ????'s for the food, 3 ????'s for service but only 1 ???? for price. I prefer other f/c places in town with a little bit nicer ambience for close to the same price.

my husband and I went tonight. it was the best fish poutine and salad we have ever had! if I could rate a 10 I would! it was the best service we have had in a very long time! it was the first night we didn't have anything to complain about! My husband and I have been here twice in the past two weeks and we really love it! The halibut and chips are delicious and so fresh. The staff are very friendly, and the food came really quickly. I'm giving it four stars though because there is no baby changing station in either of the bathrooms, and the front door doesn't have a vestibule, so it gets a little chilly when the doors open.

Upon first entering the cavernous space, the lighting seemed brash and irritating. Not inviting at all. If you want cozy, this would be the exact opposite. We sat at the last available table, right in front of the server's station adjacent to the kitchen. Ordering was fairly easy, but was not as efficient as it could have been due to a lack of options for kids. The wait staff was polite and did a good job with what she had to deal with, however she should have brought a round of water while we waited for the meals. Eventually the underwhelming meals arrived. Typical of fish and chips joints in my opinion. Not exciting. Not all that tasty or memorable due in part for the overcooked fries and messed up order. My plate of scallops and salad completely lacked any imagination or enthusiasm by the cook. They could have done considerably better for their $18.95. Half a plate of salad and 7 golf ball sized battered scallops left me not wanting more. I just wanted to leave. The wait staff seemed disjointed and clearly lacked any sense of organization or any authority. In addition the idea of a guy dragging a mop bucket past your table while you eat, to mop up the floor is a real turn off for me as a patron. If you want atmosphere, good food with flavour and a relatively warm environment, this is not for you. Look elsewhere and avoid disappointment. If you are okay with questionable quality food and can deal with slow take-out service, perhaps give it a go. You've been warned.

Good fish and chips. The portions are quite large and one order could easily be shared between two adults. The fish was lightly battered and easily broke apart, the fries were plentiful and reminded me of chip shops in the UK. The only things missing were cole slaw and mushy peas with lots of black pepper. The service was both charming and lovely.

It's hard these days to find a good fish & chips spot. Big Ben's is our go to place for halibut and chips. Even though the price per pound of halibut has skyrocketed over the last few years, Big Ben's gives you a healthy portion for a reasonable price. Service is right on. The wait staff can't do enough for you. Always smiling. Reminds me of Duckworths in east end Toronto. Good eats.

This has got to be one of the best Fish and Chips restaurants in Peterborough! The Fish and Chips were amazing, compared to other restaurants that specialize in Fish and Chips, not greasy and the fish batter is light and crispy. I have been here a few times since it opened and have recommended to several people. I have only had takeout but the restaurant looks like a nice place to sit and have a nice enjoyable meal. The staff are a nice munch of people! I will be back soon!????

We travelled for the day from Toronto and stumbled upon this amazing place! Fish and chips are always hit and miss. It’s hard to find a good place, with fair prices and good portions. This place has all that and they are impressively clean! Owner takes great pride in his craft and is seen making sure his customers are happy! The portions are great, the fish is to die for, the fries are homemade and gravy is sooo good! This is 10/10 and we recommend making the effort to stop here.

Service-Excellent (friendly & fast) Temp-Good Quantity-Fair (small for $) Taste- Fairly tasteless (fish was a little dry, shrimp & scallops clearly made from frozen) Value- Poor (This combo cost $25.00+tax!!!!!!!) Not at all what I expected for this price! I will not return - there are many better fish & chips places in Peterborough.

We were not impressed. The batter had no taste and neither did the tiny amount of tartar sauce we had to ASK FOR. My fries were not cooked all the way. The restaurant has a sterile feeling. What fish and chip place charges extra for coleslaw... this one. For the price the portion was small. I am not impressed at all.

Peterborough is a pretty good city to live in if you occasionally enjoy a good fish n' chip supper. The city has a couple of chip shops and they are all equally good. Big Ben's fish has a softer batter, good portion size and is served with a ton of chips. I live in the neighbourhood so this is my go-to place. If I'm coming home from downtown I'd probably stop off at another chip shop. Like I said, they're all good.

The fish was battered perfectly and served hot without being greasy. The chips were hot and fresh, but undersalted for my taste. I was happy with my first trip and will definitely be back! I had takeout and it was wrapped up just like a gift...no wasting plastic and it kept the heat in, so clever!

The only negativish comment I would have is that I wish they let us know when we ordered that a 1 piece comes with 2 and 2 piece comes with 4 pieces. This would not only have saved us money but we would have not ordered as much as there was only 2 of us and we ended up with 6 pieces. Other than that pretty good fish and chips.

I visit family in Peterborough regularly and this time I thought to treat lunch. I ordered from the road in advance to give everyone time to prepare without waiting in line. 8 pieces of halibut, 5 orders of French fries well done and 4 sides of coleslaw. Everything was ready as I pulled up to the store. They also provided a generous supply of condiments without asking. The halibut was cut nice and thick with a very light crispy batter. Not greasy like in the city that I'm accustom to. Servet the owner also came out to great me and thank me for the business. Olivia was the lady that organized my order without any disappointment. I will definitely be back for more and more F&C from this establishment. I must mention on my arrival I used the restrooms. People keep in mind the restrooms in any restaurant is the mirror of what goes on behind the scenes. This place is spotless.
